Comedian Aries Spears Punched Repeatedly In The Head By Radio Host During Racially Charged Interview About Obama

Former Mad TV comedian, Aries Spears, was repeatedly punched in the head by the host of a radio program last week after a heated discussion about former President Barack Obama.

“The incident happened during a live broadcast of the ‘Corey Holcomb 5150’ online radio show on April 12 when co-host, Zo Williams, became angry with [the] guest, comedian Aries Spears,” reports The Daily Mail.

Things took a turn for the worse when Spears, who was allegedly drunk at the time, defended Obama’s legacy and attempted to raise his voice over Williams.

Implying that his darker skin granted him the wisdom to comfortably assess the former president’s legacy, Spears dismissed the radio host’s criticisms of Obama as the ranting of a “light skinned,” supposedly non-black black person. While Williams is objectively an African-American male (and self-identifies as such), Spears nonetheless asserted his darker-skin privilege to undermine the radio host.

Eventually, the conversation warped into a shouting match as the two hurled racial epithets and profane insults at each other.

Speaking in an aggressive tone, Spears threatened Williams with physical violence. That’s when Williams returned the favor, punching the comedian in the head.

Celebrity news site TMZ obtained video of the altercation. Watch (Warning: explicit language):

After the incident, Spears took to Twitter to tell his fans what happened:

The radio program’s primary host subsequently responded, dismissing Spears’ grievances by framing the comedian as the aggressor:

Williams later apologized for his behavior in a public statement released on his website:

PUBLIC APOLOGY

With regard to the event that took place during a recent on air broadcast, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to those who were present, and to those that respect me as a man and a mentor, who were forced to witness actions that are not representative of mature and professional people. As adults, matters should try to be handled by more civil means, and confrontation, be it physical or verbal, should never be the solution–even when you are being provoked. #RiseAbove

Sincerely,

Zo Williams
