CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Smacks Down Gloria Borger — On Air — Over Another Huge Blunder

CNN gets a lot of stuff wrong. And chief among the wrong-getters is Gloria Borger.

The 64-year-old Borger — the clearest proof yet that one can succeed in political punditry simply by regurgitating the ideas published each day on the op-ed pages of the New York Times — made a major boo-boo last week. The “reporter” said that she received “pushback” from White House insiders when asked if then-Chief of Staff Reince Priebus was on his way out the door.

Hours later, Priebus got canned — which everyone but Borger saw coming from a mile away.

So when Borger sat on a panel of “journalists” on Friday, she got a spanking from eminent newsreader Wolf Blitzer.

When she told Blitzer about the “pushback,” he said: “Are these people simply out of the loop, they don’t know what they’re talking about, or are they lying?”

“Uhhhhhhh,” Borger said, “it could be a little bit of both.”

Then she got defensive. “Wolf, it’s hard to know. All I know is you’re only as good your sources, and you have a source that tells you that Reince Priebus will be gone, and then you have a good source that tells you that that’s not the case.”

“Well, clearly,” Wolf lectured, “the sources that were pushing you away are no good sources, so you gotta’ be careful with those sources down the road.” Borger laughed heartily; Blitzer didn’t smile.

“Either they don’t know what they’re talking about, or they’re lying. So those sources presumably will go away,” he continued, adding in this little twist of the dagger, “That’s my experience as a reporter.”

Borger, now looking sheepish, said a terse, “Thank you.”

Then she went into blame mode. “But I’m not the only one here doing the reporting on this,” she said.

“And when you get differing stories from the White House in which there are competing interests and you have to understand the decider is the President of the United States, and I was told the president made his decision, but you never know until you know in these situations…particularly with this White House.”

Big blunders are Borger’s forte. Just last month she made another doozy when she claimed former FBI Director James Comey planned to tell lawmakers during testimony before Congress that he never told President Donald Trump that he was not under investigation by the bureau.

“He will say he never assured Donald Trump that he was not under investigation, that that would have been improper for him to do so,” Borger said on air.

The next day, Comey fully cleared Trump, saying he told the president multiple times he was not under investigation. CNN was forced to run an embarrassing correction. In its never-ending mission to debase Trump, Borger and three other reporters had simply leaped at a story without checking it out.

So CNN’s not only fake news, lots of times it’s just plain wrong.
