CNN CEO Chris Licht is reportedly set to announce that 31-year-old Kaitlan Collins has a new contract to serve as the host of the network’s 9 p.m. primetime hour, which was previously occupied for years by former CNN host Chris Cuomo.
Puck News reported that the announcement is expected to take place in the coming days and would cap off Collins’ fast rise through the network from her time as a White House reporter who often got under the skin of former President Donald Trump to become a fresh face for the network’s primetime lineup.
Collins is set to host a town hall event tonight in New Hampshire with former President Donald Trump, who has faced criticism for agreeing to go on the network with a journalist who has shown hostility toward him in the past while suggesting that he may skip Republican Party primary debates — which critics claim is because he does not want to be compared on stage next to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
This will be the first time that Trump has allowed CNN to interview him since 2016.
“They are rightfully desperate to get those fantastic (TRUMP!) ratings once again,” Trump wrote on social media. “They made me a deal I couldn’t refuse!!! Could be the beginning of a New & Vibrant CNN, with no more Fake News, or it could turn into a disaster for all, including me. Let’s see what happens? Wednesday Night at 8:00!!!”
The report from Puck News said that Collins’ performance tonight is not expected to impact the offer that CNN is about to make her, but cautioned that with Trump, anything is possible.
Trump is likely to face tough questions about the four criminal investigations that he is under, a civil court ruling that he committed battery and defamed E. Jean Carroll, claims that he has made about the 2020 election, and other controversies.

CNN has also faced attacks from Left-wing media for giving a town hall event to the former president, who is currently leading in the very early GOP primary polls along with the Florida governor.
