On Monday night, appearing on CNN’s The Situation Room, CNN counterterrorism analyst Phil Mudd decided to wax scatological, offering this response to a preliminary report released by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee that stated the committee was closing their investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election: “If this report were written on toilet paper, I wouldn’t stoop to wipe my a** with it.”
As Newsbusters points out, CNN seems somewhat schizophrenic when it comes to naughty language; after President Trump called Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd a “sleeping son of a b***h” at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, CNN media critic David Zurawik complained that Trump’s remarks were “offensive” and “just plain wrong,” adding, “we lose our ability to function as rationally informed citizens every time we chuckle or smile at something he says!”
Yet when he was making an appearance on Reliable Sources two months earlier, Zurawik praised CNN for “doing God’s work” by repeatedly mentioning President Trump’s use of the word “sh*thole.” Mudd himself said he was a proud “sh**holer.” Newsbusters adds, “The network used the word 195 times the day after the news first broke.”
Last August, Mudd also waxed poetic about the way he saw Trump’s expected demise. Speaking on CNN’s The Lead, he stated, “Let me give you one bottom line as a former government official. Government is going to kill this guy. … He defends Vladimir Putin. There are State Department and CIA officers coming home, and at Langley and Foggy Bottom, CIA and State, they’re saying, ‘This is how you defend us?'”
