Mistakenly thinking Citizens United is a law and not a right-wing political advocacy group, George Clooney called for its repeal. Speaking with MSNBC’s Chuck Todd for an interview with Meet The Press that aired on Sunday, Clooney essentially – although perhaps unknowingly – repeated the Democrats’ call for a repeal of the First Amendment via constitutional amendment to empower the federal government to regulate political speech.
On Friday, the celebrity Democrat and his left-wing lawyer wife Amal Clooney hosted a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton’s campaign and other Democrats at the home of venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar. For the price of $353,000, one couple could join the Clooneys at the head table with the former First Lady.
On Saturday, the Clooneys hosted another fundraiser at their home, with the cost of admission being $33,400.
Asked whether these fundraisers amounted to a form of pay-for-play or peddling of political influence, Clooney said that his cause was very different from that of the Koch brothers.
While being careful not to criticize Clooney directly, Sanders criticized what he described as the “corrupt campaign finance system” which he claimed offered “undue influence to donors.”
Clooney agreed with Senator Bernie Sanders’s description of campaign financing as “corrupt” and “obscene.” The Hollywood Democrat darling also praised the socialist senator from Vermont for pulling Clinton to further to the left.
No mention was made of the billions of dollars spent in left-wing advocacy under the guise of journalism, from MSNBC and CNN to The New York Times and The Washington Post. Also ignored were the billions of dollars spent pushing left-wing agitation from all levels of government, academia, the largest corporations, and cultural institutions such as Hollywood.
In September of 2014, Democrats in the Senate voted unanimously to repeal the First Amendment by empowering Congress to control political speech by defining the parameters of legitimate media outlets. Clooney took up this cause by calling for Democrats to again win a majority in the Senate in order to nominate a left-wing Supreme Court Justice, presumably to overturn the Citizens United vs. FEC decision – which he thinks is a law.
