Comedian Chris Rock slammed the Democratic Party, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by name during an interview this week for letting “the pandemic come in” while they were busy trying to remove President Donald Trump from office through impeachment.
“Part of the reason we’re in the predicament we’re in is, the president’s a landlord,” Rock, 55, said. “No one has less compassion for humans than a landlord.”
Did you ever see that movie “The Last Emperor,” where like a 5-year-old is the emperor of China? There’s a kid and he’s the king. So I’m like, it’s all the Democrats’ fault. Because you knew that the emperor was 5 years old. And when the emperor’s 5 years old, they only lead in theory. There’s usually an adult who’s like, “OK, this is what we’re really going to do.” And it was totally up to Pelosi and the Democrats. Their thing was, “We’re going to get him impeached,” which was never going to happen. You let the pandemic come in. Yes, we can blame Trump, but he’s really the 5-year-old.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) slammed Democrats for worrying more about impeaching the president while the pandemic was in its early stages in China.
“When it comes to the month of February, most Democrats and the media were more worried about impeaching President @realDonaldTrump than coronavirus,” Graham wrote on Twitter. “We voted to acquit President Trump on February 6. During that time, Democrats were making witness requests which – if they had been granted – would have extended the trial through most of February. Very sad, very dangerous.”
Trump has also hit Democrats for having focused on impeachment while the administration was taking steps to combat the pandemic.
“All she did was focus on impeachment,” Trump said during a Fox News interview in reference to Pelosi. “She didn’t focus on anything having to do with pandemics, she didn’t focus on — she focused on impeachment and she lost. And she looked like a fool.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell previously stated that the pandemic struck “while we were tied down on the impeachment trial” which “diverted the attention of the government because everything every day was all about impeachment.”
The pandemic originated in Wuhan, China, sometime late last year. China has widely been accused of lying about the outbreak, suppressing critical information, and silencing whistleblowers that tried to warn the world.
The Wall Street Journal’s Editorial Board wrote:
Suggesting that an outbreak of a deadly bat coronavirus coincidentally occurred near the only level 4 virology institute in all of China—which happened to be studying the closest known relative of that exact virus—strains credulity.
Above all, China’s extensive coverup raises red flags. In the critical first weeks after the initial outbreak, Beijing actively suppressed essential information and prevented World Health Organization investigators from entering the country while samples were destroyed. When a courageous Chinese biologist posted the sequenced genome of the virus online, his lab was immediately shut “for rectification.” The Chinese government has forbidden scientists to discuss publicly the origins of the pandemic. Citizen journalists investigating the issue have disappeared. In the words of a European Union report that were controversially later removed from the final version, “China has continued to run a global disinformation campaign to deflect blame for the outbreak of the pandemic.”
