With much of the focus on Saturday might’s GOP debate seemingly revolving around Marco Rubio’s repetition of a sound bite, the most egregious and shocking moment came late in the debate, after Rubio valiantly stood up for the rights of the unborn while Chris Christie uttered a reprehensible defense of abortion.
Prompted by moderator Mary Catherine Ham, who told Christie, “You too, have talked about Senator Rubio’s position on the life issue. Some conservative activists have called this line of attack harmful to the pro-life cause,” Christie first waxed eloquent about how his state had defunded Planned Parenthood, (avoiding how he once donated to that organization and said in 1994 that he was pro-choice) then segued into this, regarding the relatively few women who have become pregnant as a result of rape or incest: “That woman should not have to deliver that child if they believe that violation is now an act of self-defense by terminating that pregnancy.”
