Many Grammys viewers were shocked by the fact that this year’s show was sponsored by none other than pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.

Music fans made their opinions known on Twitter, noting how Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ hell-themed performance of their award-winning song, “Unholy,” immediately preceded a reminder that Pfizer was financially supporting the whole thing.

“Sam Smith has a SATANIC Grammys performance & it’s sponsored by Pfizer … You can’t make this stuff up,” one person observed while sharing a video clip of the red-lighted stage.

“The Devil. Brought to you by Pfizer…,” conservative pundit Charlie Kirk agreed.

“They really ran the ‘sponsored by Pfizer’ right after the Satanic demon performance at the Grammys. This stuff is getting too obvious,” another tweet said.

“I get on Twitter and realize I missed the Grammys last night. I see it was either satanic or they’re just dressed up as blood clots since it was sponsored by Pfizer,” another person joked, sharing photos of Smith arriving in a red cape and Lizzo posing in her red-flower-adorned garment.

“The Grammy’s featured Sam Smith’s demonic performance and was sponsored by Pfizer,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) tweeted. “And the Satanic Church now has an abortion clinic in NM that requires its patients to perform a satanic ritual before services. American Christians need to get to work.”

Smith’s performance is being lauded by legacy media despite the overt Satanic imagery. The artist, who identifies as non-binary, previously opened up about the risks of making this new album.

“I think that you can’t blame people for thinking something’s not beautiful sometimes. Some people just didn’t like it, but it was a case where I had to sit there and be like, ‘Wait, maybe you don’t like that because you don’t understand it,’” Smith said. “The music industry is just not used to queer artists.”

Smith and Petras took home the 2023 Grammy Award for best pop duo/group.
