President Donald Trump unveiled a deal with U.K.-based drugmaker AstraZeneca on Friday under which the company will sell some medicines at a discount to the government&#8217;s Medicaid health plan in exchange for tariff relief, similar to a drug pricing pact reached last week with Pfizer.
The deals set a framework the White House will use to try to reach its goal of lowering U.S. prescription medicine prices. The president sent letters to 17 leading drugmakers in July telling them to slash prices. Pfizer and Astra are the first two companies to reach a deal with the administration.
AstraZeneca will also offer some of its drugs at up to 80% off their list price through the TrumpRx website planned for next year, CEO Pascal Soriot said at an event in the Oval Office.
He said the company will receive a three-year tariff exemption &#8220;to localize the remainder of our products.&#8221;
U.S. patients currently pay by far the most for prescription medicines, often nearly three times more than in other developed nations, and Trump has been pressuring drugmakers to lower their prices to what patients pay elsewhere or face stiff tariffs.
Last month, Trump threatened 100% tariffs, ratcheting up pressure on the pharmaceutical industry to agree to price cuts and shift manufacturing to the U.S., after negotiations broke down earlier this year, lobbyists and executives told Reuters following the Pfizer deal.
More than 70 million people are covered by Medicaid, the state and federal government program for low-income people. Drug spending in that program is dwarfed by that of Medicare, which covers people aged 65 and older or those with disabilities and is not included in Friday&#8217;s announcement.

Medicare&#8217;s drug spending reached $216 billion in 2021, while Medicaid&#8217;s gross spending was around $80 billion.
The Medicaid program already receives the lowest drug prices in the U.S., so the additional savings may be modest, said Craig Garthwaite, a professor at Northwestern University&#8217;s Kellogg School of Management.
&#8220;If you look at AstraZeneca&#8217;s portfolio, I don&#8217;t think there are a bunch of drugs that exist where that&#8217;s going to involve them giving a very big discount to Medicaid,&#8221; Garthwaite said.
AstraZeneca&#8217;s Pfizer‑like deal may spare it tariffs, but will not move the needle on U.S. rising health insurance premiums and out‑of‑pocket drug costs, said Rena Conti, an associate professor at Boston University.
&#8220;It&#8217;s good for the companies, and has very uncertain if any benefit for Americans struggling with the affordability of prescription drugs,&#8221; Conti said.
Soriot has worked to keep his company close to Washington while pursuing its growth strategy.
AstraZeneca in July announced it will invest $50 billion in U.S. manufacturing and research and development by 2030. It will build its biggest site worldwide in Virginia, and expand facilities in five other U.S. states.
In September, the company announced it will sell its diabetes and asthma drugs direct to cash-paying U.S. patients at a discount of up to 70% off list prices, another move in response to Trump&#8217;s pressure campaign.
Soriot this year has played up the company&#8217;s U.S. credentials. He described the Anglo-Swedish firm as a &#8220;very American company,&#8221; highlighting its identity shift toward its largest market. AstraZeneca will list its shares in the United States as well as its current markets in the UK and Europe.

Topline: A busy day for lawmakers on Tuesday as the time ticked away for a government shutdown – while President Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth held an unprecedented event attended by the U.S. military’s top commanders. 
Washington’s shutdown showdown: Lawmakers haggled until the last moment on funding for the federal government, but were unsuccessful. About a day ahead of the deadline, The New York Times and Siena College released a poll that had some worrying signs for Democrats. According to the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/30/polls/trump-approval-poll.html">poll</a>, two-thirds of Americans say that Democrats should not force a government shutdown. 
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) later called the poll “biased,” drawing a laugh from assembled senators.
President Trump attempted to bring Democrats to the table on Tuesday by reminding them that during a shutdown, he has considerable authority to reshape the government. “The last person who wants it shut down is us. Now, with that being said, we can do things during the shutdown that are irreversible, that are bad for them and irreversible by them, like cutting vast numbers of people out and cutting programs that they like,” <a href="https://x.com/cspan/status/1973069236995035285">said</a> Trump.
Schumer <a href="https://youtu.be/CmrOihzVDo8?t=43">interpreted</a> the threat as Trump owning the shutdown: “Democrats do not want a shutdown. We stand ready to work with Republicans to find a bipartisan compromise. The ball is in their court. When he says he will do things, he is taking ownership.”
Over in Quantico: Trump and Hegseth delivered two speeches to essentially every top commander in the U.S. military. The speeches lasted approximately two and a half hours.
The War Secretary reiterated the priorities he has often pushed as the head of the military: cutting social engineering and restoring what he calls the warrior ethos. 
“No more identity months. DEI offices, dudes in dresses. No more climate change worship. No more division, distraction, or gender delusions. No more debris, as I&#8217;ve said before, and we&#8217;ll say again. We are done with that s***,” <a href="https://youtu.be/YSkNiVVTm-Y?t=1216">said</a> Hegseth.
To build the military into what he said it should be, Hegseth offered a test to each military leader: Would you allow your own child to serve in the military as it’s currently structured? Unless the answer is an unqualified yes, then there are more changes to be made.
“This means at the War Department, first and foremost, we must restore a ruthless, dispassionate, and common-sense application of standards,” <a href="https://youtu.be/YSkNiVVTm-Y?t=1381">said</a> Hegseth. “I don&#8217;t want my son serving alongside troops who are outta shape or in combat unit with females who can&#8217;t meet the same combat arms, physical standards as men.”
Trump: The president’s speech was more like a military-focused campaign speech. He touted how, under his administration, the military has crushed recruitment goals and how the United States is leading China and Russia in military advances.
“My message to you is very simple. I am with you. I support you. And as president, I have your backs 100%. You’ll never see me waver even a little bit. That’s the way it is,” Trump <a href="https://youtu.be/YSkNiVVTm-Y?t=5312">told</a> assembled commanders.

Topline: President Trump has promised a new era of lower drug prices for Americans with the launch of TrumpRX and a historic deal with Pfizer.
TrumpRX is going to be a new government website that will allow Americans to purchase medications directly at discounted prices. The site will feature reductions of up to 85% of the net price.
Pfizer: Pfizer is one of the largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology corporations in the world. It has agreed to set all their medications for Medicaid at “most favored nation” pricing, or pricing that is comparable to or less than the cost of other developed nations’ drug prices. Additionally, all new Pfizer medications will be offered at these lower prices.
Pfizer will also invest $70 billion in research and development, as well as United States manufacturing, by 2030. Trump has long said that he wants drugs made in the United States to bring back jobs, but also for national security.
More to come?: Trump indicated on Monday that more deals are coming, and he is offering incentives to boost that participation. However, if a company refuses to comply, he said he will use tariffs and other mechanisms to obtain lower drug prices for Americans.
“Eli Lilly has been fantastic,” <a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?ref=watch_permalink&amp;v=2284710728656259">said</a> Trump. “We&#8217;re making deals with all of them. And I said if we don&#8217;t make a deal, then we&#8217;re going to tariff them an extra five, six, seven, eight percent. … Nobody wants to play that game.”
Step back: Americans pay, on average, about 422% more for brand-name drugs than other comparable nations. Trump said months ago that this is a form of “global freeloading,” where Americans underwrite all research and development costs that turn out most medical advances that benefit the world. He launched these “most favored nation” policies so R&amp;D costs are distributed to other developed nations, as well – nations like France, Germany, and the U.K.
The goal is that this will lower drug prices for Americans, while these companies maintain their margins, and therefore, R&amp;D funding and medical advances do not suffer.

Topline: President Trump presented what could be a game-changing Gaza peace deal this week, which has won support from Israel as well as many Arab leaders. Now, Trump has given Hamas a deadline to get on board or face a “very sad end.”
Expert opines: Victoria Coates, the vice president of The Heritage Foundation’s Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, on the president’s 20-point plan for peace in the Middle East: “The key clause is probably the first one, which says that Hamas has to disarm and agree to this plan. But unlike the ‘Peace to Prosperity Plan’ that the president unveiled with Prime Minister Netanyahu in January of 2020, this one is being overtly and aggressively supported by partners in the Middle East. We have countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, UAE, but also large Muslim majority countries like Pakistan, Indonesia, putting out statements saying, ‘yes, this is the way, this is the plan, this is a good faith effort.’ And so it all comes down to Hamas. Israel has accepted, the rest of the region has accepted, and the question is whether Hamas will accept.”
Coates on the Palestinian Authority’s stance on the plan: “[Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas] came out and said he was happy that this had happened, that he wanted to look at it, but that he thought it was a productive step. That is 180 degrees from where he was five years ago. … There is very strong reforms for the Palestinian Authority in there that they have to undertake before they get any kind of governing responsibility in Gaza. So, they&#8217;re going to have a lot of work in front of them, as well. And for him to be hopeful about it suggests that, maybe more broadly among the Palestinian people, there is support for this kind of resolution.”
Coates on Hamas’ willingness to accept: “It all depends on what condition Hamas finds itself in today. If they are really down to their last fighters, if they are out of rockets … they may be looking for survival. This does give them that path. It says that if you wish to disarm and embrace a life of amnesty, that you can stay. And if you wish to leave, you will be given safe passage to third countries. They may see this as their last ticket out.”
Coates on how the deal will be enforced: “There are going to be benchmarks Hamas has to meet repeatedly throughout this process or else Israel goes right back in. The president expressed full-throated support for Israel&#8217;s right if Hamas does not keep their side of the bargain to do what they have to do to secure the strip. Now, that&#8217;s not going to be pretty. Prime Minister Netanyahu called it ‘the hard way.’ He said he would much rather do it the easy way. I think we all would – especially for the Palestinians living there – this is the way for them to get to a more secure and prosperous future. President Trump believes in that. He wants it to happen. And he&#8217;s the one who can lead the way there.”

A new website, called TrumpRX, will allow Americans to purchase drugs directly from the government rather than going through insurance. Virtually all drugs will be discounted on TrumpRX, the White House said.
Pfizer stepped up with a $70 billion investment, a shift toward making drugs in the U.S., which the Trump administration has addressed as a national security issue. 
The company is also offering all medications to Medicaid at most favored nations prices &#8212; which are prices comparable to or less than the cost of other nations&#8217; drug prices. Additionally, all new medications will be offered at most-favored-nation prices.

Dermatitis medication, for example, will be discounted by 80% &#8212; and that refers to the net price, which is what consumers are actually paying. Meds for post-menopausal osteoporosis, which is extremely common, will be discounted by 85%. Migraine medication and rheumatoid arthritis drugs will be discounted by 50% and 40%, respectively.

Health officials, including Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, emphasized that research and development will not stop, but instead, will no longer be funded by only American citizens while the rest of the world benefits.

President Donald Trump issued a Labor Day appeal for Pfizer to share its COVID-19 vaccine data with the CDC and the public immediately.
Trump said on Truth Social that Pfizer had shown him impressive numbers on its COVID vaccine, but that they had not made them publicly available. His call for transparency comes after the White House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-house-fires-cdc-director-following-covid-vaccine-showdown">fired</a> CDC Director Susan Monarez last week following her clash with Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over the approval of COVID vaccines. 
“It is very important that the Drug Companies justify the success of their various Covid Drugs. Many people think they are a miracle that saved Millions of lives. Others disagree! With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW,” Trump wrote. “I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public. Why not??? They go off to the next &#8216;hunt&#8217; and let everyone rip themselves apart, including Bobby Kennedy Jr. and CDC, trying to figure out the success or failure of the Drug Companies Covid work.”
“They show me GREAT numbers and results, but they don’t seem to be showing them to many others,” Trump added. “I want them to show them NOW, to CDC and the public, and clear up this MESS, one way or the other!!! I hope OPERATION WARP SPEED was as ‘BRILLIANT’ as many say it was. If not, we all want to know about it, and why???”
During his first term, Trump launched &#8220;Operation Warp Speed&#8221; to fast-track the development and approval of COVID-19 vaccines. Under the Biden administration, mandates were introduced requiring vaccination for the military, healthcare workers at federally funded facilities, federal employees and contractors, and employees of large businesses. Federal courts later blocked some of these mandates, while others remained in effect.
After Monarez was fired last week, Kennedy appointed HHS Deputy Director Jim O’Neil as the acting director of the CDC. Monarez was terminated after she failed to commit to rescinding her approval for certain COVID-19 vaccine age groups. At least four senior CDC officials left in protest over Monarez’s firing. 
Those resignations came as the FDA rolled out new guidelines for the COVID vaccine, approving its use for those 65 and older and limiting approval for those between the ages of 5 and 64.
“The emergency use authorizations for Covid vaccines, once used to justify broad mandates on the general public during the Biden administration, are now rescinded,” Kennedy announced. “FDA has now issued marketing authorization for those at higher risk: Moderna (6+ months), Pfizer (5+), and Novavax (12+). These vaccines are available for all patients who choose them after consulting with their doctors.”

On Thursday, the GOP-led House Judiciary Committee announced that it received bombshell evidence that suggested Pfizer executives pushed to delay full testing for their company&#8217;s COVID vaccine until after the 2020 election.
British drugmaker GSK informed the panel that Philip Dormitzer, a former Pfizer executive who became a senior scientist at GSK, told colleagues at GSK that &#8220;in late 2020, the three most senior people in Pfizer R&amp;D were involved in a decision to deliberately slow down clinical testing so that it would not be complete prior to the results of the presidential election that year.&#8221;
The Judiciary Committee, led by Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), said that it had sought information from GSK after The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/health/pharma/pfizer-covid-vaccine-2020-election-probe-2f3ec247" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> in March that U.S. prosecutors were looking into a tip from the company that came in &#8220;soon&#8221; after President Donald Trump won a second term in 2024.
The Journal noted that Trump, who lost to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential contest, &#8220;for years has claimed that Pfizer sat on the positive results of clinical trials, which could have reflected well on his management of the pandemic and reassured voters as they headed to the polls. There has never been evidence to support the accusation, and the development of the Covid vaccines is widely viewed as a medical miracle, coming faster than any other vaccine in history.&#8221;

As relayed by the Judiciary Committee, GSK responded to the panel&#8217;s inquiry in mid-April. In another part of the reply given to congressional investigators, GSK said Dormitzer had requested a transfer over concerns about what the new Trump administration might do to him.
&#8220;In November 2024, shortly after the election, Dr. Dormitzer approached a representative from the GSK human resources team to speak about a potential relocation abroad. As the human resources representative recalls, in their meeting, Dr. Dormitzer was visibly upset; he requested that he be relocated to Canada due to concerns that he could be investigated by the incoming Trump Administration over his role in developing Pfizer&#8217;s COVID-19 vaccine,&#8221; GSK said. &#8220;According to the human resources representative, when asked what prompted his request, Dr. Dormitzer made a comment to the effect of: &#8216;Let&#8217;s just say it wasn&#8217;t a coincidence, the timing of the vaccine.'&#8221;
The Journal reported in March that GSK and Pfizer, who are rivals in the pharmaceutical industry, have sued each other over patent rights tied to vaccines.
Dormitzer, who has since left GSK, provided a statement to the newspaper.
&#8220;My Pfizer colleagues and I did everything we could to get the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization at the very first possible moment,&#8221; Dormitzer said. &#8220;Any other interpretation of my comments about the pace of the vaccine’s development would be incorrect.&#8221;
The House panel sent a <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2025-05-15-jdj-to-dormitzer-re-vaccine-delay.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to Dormitzer requesting documents and a transcribed interview by May 29. Pfizer Chairman and CEO Albert Bourla was the recipient of another <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2025-05-15-jdj-to-pfizer-re-vaccine-delay.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> that sought records by the same date.
In response to a request for comment, a Pfizer representative told The Daily Wire that the company received the letter asking about the allegations in the Wall Street Journal report and &#8220;will respond directly&#8221; to the House Judiciary Committee.
Pfizer also provided a statement that said: &#8220;The COVID-19 vaccine development process was driven by science and guided by the U.S. FDA back in 2020. We have consistently and transparently reiterated the facts and the timeline of the tireless work of scientists, regulators, and thousands of clinical trial volunteers who made the vaccine possible. Theories to the contrary are simply untrue and being manufactured.&#8221;
The Judiciary Committee emphasized that it is &#8220;unclear which Pfizer R&amp;D employees were involved with Dr. Dormitzer in the decision to delay the clinical testing,&#8221; but did note that he &#8220;represented to GSK that Pfizer&#8217;s CEO was not aware of the delay.&#8221;
A GSK spokesperson declined to comment.

Imagine that an executive of a major corporation sits down for dinner at a restaurant. Unbeknownst to him, it&#8217;s a sting operation. Everything he says is being recorded. Very quickly, in order to impress someone he thinks is interested in him, the executive confesses that his company is lying to the American public. In secret, the executive says, they&#8217;re thinking about conducting extremely dangerous medical experiments within the borders of the United States — and these experiments are similar to the ones in Wuhan that led to the COVID pandemic. Then the executive admits that government regulators aren&#8217;t scrutinizing these experiments as much as they should, for the simple reason that they don&#8217;t want to jeopardize their potential future job opportunities at the corporation. And then imagine that, once the executive realizes he&#8217;s on camera and that he&#8217;s just confessed to a fraud on the American public, he begins screaming and crawling on the floor of the restaurant. In his hysteria, he pushes people away, tries to hide his face, and ultimately runs away. He demonstrates a clear consciousness of guilt, in other words.
What do you think the end result of this kind of episode might be? In a rational world, you might expect, at a minimum, that this executive would be fired, and that his company would immediately be investigated — both by the government, and by every media organization in the country. After all, it&#8217;s not every day that a corporate executive admits that his company is working on research that could cause another pandemic. He also just divulged trade secrets on camera, which you&#8217;d think would upset his bosses.
But in reality, none of those things happened. 
The situation I just described took place in early 2023, when Project Veritas secretly filmed a senior official in Pfizer&#8217;s research and development division. You might remember that whole episode. Pfizer came out and denied, essentially, that the executive had meant what he said. As far as we know, the company took no action against him. In the end, Pfizer, needless to say, did not suffer any significant consequences. They remain one of the largest and most profitable corporations on the planet. But incredibly, the people who exposed the Pfizer executive didn&#8217;t fare so well. It was like Pfizer pulled a Reverse Uno card. 
For one thing, Project Veritas did not survive. It collapsed soon afterwards. So did the one show on cable news that covered Project Veritas&#8217; reporting, Fox News&#8217; &#8220;Tucker Carlson Tonight.&#8221; They were taken off the air shortly after covering the Pfizer sting operation, for reasons that remain officially undisclosed. To restate: Less than five months after a Pfizer executive was exposed and humiliated on camera, everyone who talked about the scandal was deplatformed. Meanwhile the executive went back to work.
If you wanted to illustrate the extraordinary power that the pharmaceutical industry has in this country, you&#8217;d be hard pressed to find a better example. One way or another, people who criticize them tend to lose their platforms. That&#8217;s a level of protection that very few other corporations have, regardless of their financial situation. Tesla, for example, is about ten times the size of Pfizer by market cap. And as we all know, they&#8217;re subjected to constant media attacks. So what is it about the pharmaceutical industry, specifically, that makes them so hard to criticize?

The leading theory, which we&#8217;ve talked about before, is that companies like Pfizer essentially buy off the media. You can&#8217;t watch Fox or CNN or MSNBC without seeing an ad from the pharmaceutical industry. In total, the pharmaceutical industry <a href="https://substack.com/home/post/p-159740117?utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=web" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spends</a> something like $5 billion on advertising every year — which in some years, is <a href="https://marylandmatters.org/2024/01/19/report-finds-some-drug-manufacturers-spend-more-on-advertising-executives-salaries-than-new-research/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more</a> than they spend on research and development. And a lot of this spending is concentrated on news stations. As the journalist Kyle Becker reported on his Substack, &#8220;Nearly 31% of ad minutes on major nightly news broadcasts in 2024 came from pharmaceutical brands.&#8221; If you watch any amount of cable news, you know that figure is probably accurate. Turn the television on, and you&#8217;ll probably see one of these ads within five minutes. These are among the most lucrative ad purchases — pushing drugs like Ozempic, Skyrizi, &#8220;Vyvgart Hytrulo,&#8221; and so on. Naturally, that kind of spending leads to favorable coverage. Big Pharma doesn&#8217;t even need to establish any kind of quid pro quo, or request anything from the news networks. It&#8217;s just generally understood that, if you&#8217;re working for one of these networks, you should go easy on the pharma giants.
This dynamic is one of the reasons why a lot of people took notice recently, on hearing the news that RFK Jr. and the HHS had supposedly implemented a total ban on direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising. Those reports turned out to be inaccurate, at least for the time being. But RFK Jr. has pledged to implement a similar ban in the past. And he&#8217;s been very clear about his reasoning. While he was campaigning for Trump last year, and while he was leading his own presidential bid, for example, RFK Jr. made the point that pharmaceutical advertising has compromised the news industry. He&#8217;s also said that, in part because of these advertisements, Americans spend far more on prescription drugs than pretty much every other major country. By some estimates we spend more than twice as much.
And it&#8217;s logical to conclude that advertising plays some role in those numbers. When people see an advertisement for a new prescription drug, they&#8217;re more likely to tell their doctor they want it, as opposed to a cheaper generic brand. Keep in mind, only two countries on the planet allow direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising: the United States and New Zealand. The vast majority of the civilized world has rejected this kind of marketing. And one of the obvious consequences of this carve-out for big pharma is that they sell a lot more drugs to people who otherwise wouldn&#8217;t pay for them. They wouldn&#8217;t spend $5 billion a year on advertisements if that weren&#8217;t true. (And this isn&#8217;t even getting into Big Pharma advertisements and solicitations that target physicians and other professionals).
Just to give one example, in 2022, the manufacturer of the drug Skyrizie, AbbVie, spent around $229 million advertising the drug that year. The next year, AbbVie decided to increase its advertising budget for the drug by more than double. And the results were clear: drug sales went up to $7.8 billion, an increase of roughly 50% year-over-year. There was no major FDA approval that occurred in this period. The drug&#8217;s formula didn&#8217;t change in some way. Instead, more people heard about it, so more people asked their doctors for it. And by the way, the vast majority of the $7.8 billion came from customers in the United States, because they&#8217;re pretty much the only people seeing the advertisements.
This advertising exemption, of course, is just one of several carve-outs that Big Pharma enjoys in this country. It&#8217;s also nearly impossible to sue them when one of their vaccines ends up hurting or killing you, thanks to a federal law passed three decades ago. But the advertising carve-out is one of the most important ones, because it has a lot of downstream effects that aren&#8217;t immediately obvious. One of those effects is that the ads increase the price of the drugs. When billions of dollars are spent on advertising, inevitably that cost will be passed on to the consumers. This is basic economics and common sense, and doctors see it everyday. As far back as a decade ago — when direct-to-consumer advertising was much less common than it is today — the American Medical Association noticed the problem. They voted to ban all direct-to-consumer advertising.
The chair of the AMA, a woman named Patrice Harris, announced that, “Today’s vote in support of an advertising ban reflects concerns among physicians about the negative impact of commercially-driven promotions, and the role that marketing costs play in fueling escalating drug prices. Direct-to-consumer advertising also inflates demand for new and more expensive drugs, even when these drugs may not be appropriate.”
It&#8217;s true that, by law, these advertisements have to list all of the potential side effects. Invariably, they rattle them off at the end of the commercial, and they do it so quickly that you can&#8217;t really tell what&#8217;s happening in some cases. Pretty much everyone ignores these disclaimers at this point, because they all end up sounding like a bizarre list of horrible afflictions, always ending in death or paralysis or something catastrophic. You can watch an ad for Claritin and they&#8217;ll tell you that the side effects could include getting hit by a train or something. It&#8217;s almost as if the drugmakers have trained us to become numb to all of these potential side effects, and to think they&#8217;re all extremely rare and unlikely to occur.

That&#8217;s because, even with the often comically long disclaimer at the end of these drug commercials, the ads still don&#8217;t do enough to emphasize the potential side effects and dangers of the drugs. They don&#8217;t discuss the relative risk of every side effect, or how common they are, for example. And that makes sense because ads — regardless of who&#8217;s making them — are meant to manipulate and create an emotional response in a very short period of time. That&#8217;s fine when you&#8217;re selling cars or clothing or whatever. But it just shouldn&#8217;t be the way medical treatments are presented to the public. People should consult with professionals when they&#8217;re seeking these treatments, instead of watching paid actors sing a song about it.
But pharmaceutical ads, by design, short-circuit this process. They allow Big Pharma companies to sell the disease, not just the cure. They convince people that they have such-and-such a disorder and enlist them to go to their doctor and request the drug to treat it. This is totally backwards. You&#8217;re supposed to go to the doctor with your symptoms, not with a wishlist of drugs you want to receive. Pharma ads have helped to turn doctors into glorified drug dealers. About a dozen studies bear this out. Patients who go to the doctor and say &#8220;I saw an ad for Paxlovid&#8221; or &#8220;I saw an ad for Prozac&#8221; are a lot more likely to get that drug, than a patient who simply presents with depression-related symptoms. And on top of that, these advertisements have also contributed to the perception that, whatever problem you might have — whether it&#8217;s depression, or &#8220;feeling like you&#8217;re in the wrong body,&#8221; or whatever — that a drug from Big Pharma can be the solution. As we&#8217;ve discussed, this is a sentiment that has ruined the lives of thousands of people, including children.
Part of the reason this perception has been allowed to fester, as Liz Wheeler pointed out the other day, is that there&#8217;s no critical reporting on Big Pharma in the mainstream press. The pharmaceutical industry is allowed to buy billions of dollars&#8217; worth of advertising, which presents them as the solution to everyone&#8217;s problems. And then the press — along with many scientific institutions that also receive money from Big Pharma— don&#8217;t have any incentive to contradict the narrative. If and when HHS does ban these advertisements, then suddenly, that incentive will reappear. Very quickly, corporate media will fail, because they&#8217;ll be deprived of most of their advertising revenue. And in their place will be a slew of investigations by actual journalists into the various grotesque abuses of power by the medical establishment in recent years — on everything from gender ideology to the COVID shot.
As of right now, again, it appears that the reports were wrong about an imminent ban on these direct-to-consumer advertisements. But there are reasons to think that RFK Jr. and HHS are still planning to implement one. If that comes to pass — and there are indicators it will — then it would inevitably set up a major legal battle between Big Pharma and the federal government on First Amendment grounds. They will claim that they have the constitutional right to flood the airwaves with sales pitches for extremely potent medications that could ruin your life. But they don&#8217;t have that right, any more than the local drug dealer does. If RFK Jr. can win this fight, then in one fell swoop, he will destroy the corporate press, save billions of dollars for Americans, and usher in a new era of skepticism for an industry that badly needs it. He would be the single most consequential HHS secretary in the history of this country. All he needs to do is what pretty much every country in the world is already doing, which is to tell Big Pharma to get off our televisions.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pfizer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pfizer</a> publicly dropped race-based selection criteria from an internship program that discriminated against white and Asian applicants, settling a lawsuit with Do No Harm, an organization committed to safeguarding the medical industry from leftwing ideology.
The pharmaceutical giant settled with Do No Harm after the organization launched a lawsuit challenging Pfizer’s Breakthrough Fellowship program, which originally excluded white and Asian would-be applicants on the basis of their race.
Do No Harm Chairman Dr. Stanley Goldfarb touted the victory, noting that the settlement amounts to an admission from the company that they were previously engaged in unlawful racial discrimination.
“While Pfizer would like to quietly sweep their unlawful discrimination under the rug, their settlement acknowledges what we said all along: racially discriminatory programs are unlawful and will not go unchallenged,” Goldfarb told The Daily Wire. “For far too long, companies like Pfizer have allowed political ideology to hijack its core responsibilities.”
The lawsuit, launched by Do No Harm in September 2022, <a href="https://donoharmmedicine.org/2022/09/15/were-suing-pfizer-for-its-racially-discriminatory-fellowship/">alleged</a> that Pfizer was in violation of the Civil Rights Act, with the organization representing two individuals who were ineligible for the program.
The fellowship program from Pfizer originally stated that eligible applicants must “meet the program’s goals of increasing the pipeline for Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic and Native Americans.”
“In other words, White and Asian applicants aren’t welcome. This is the exact kind of racial discrimination that so-called &#8216;anti-racism&#8217; requires,” Do No Harm <a href="https://donoharmmedicine.org/2022/09/15/were-suing-pfizer-for-its-racially-discriminatory-fellowship/">wrote</a> at the time. While the suit was first dismissed in December 2022, Do No Harm successfully appealed before finally winning the case in January 2024.
The victory comes as corporations across various industries have engaged in anti-white, anti-Asian discrimination in the name of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
IBM hosted two internship opportunities, including one that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ibm-hosts-internships-that-bar-whites-asians-and-men-with-exception-for-men-who-identify-as-women">barred</a> white and Asian applicants and another that barred male applicants — unless those men identified as women &#8212; while Robert Kraft’s company, best known for owning the New England Patriots, appeared to engage in anti-white discrimination when it <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-england-patriots-owner-under-fire-for-discriminatory-bipoc-job-requirement">advertised a job posting</a> that listed “BIPOC,” a term that means “black, indigenous, people of color,” as a job qualification.
J.P. Morgan’s now discontinued “launching leaders undergraduate program” was only open to “Black, Hispanic and Native American sophomores and juniors from all majors who are interested in financial services and have a 3.5 GPA minimum,” while a Wells Fargo fellowship was limited to “underrepresented candidates.”
The Trump administration appears poised to crack down on discriminatory DEI programs in the corporate world, with the president naming a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/meet-the-fierce-dei-critic-leading-trumps-equal-employment-opportunity-commission">vocal critic of DEI</a> as the Acting Director of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach has become the second state attorney general to sue the pharmaceutical company Pfizer over the COVID vaccine the company provided.
On Monday, Kobach announced the lawsuit at a press conference in Topeka.
“Pfizer made multiple misleading statements to deceive the public about its vaccine at a time when Americans needed the truth,” Kobach <a href="https://www.kwch.com/2024/06/17/kansas-ag-kris-kobach-suing-pfizer-misleading-kansans-covid-vaccine/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
The lawsuit <a href="https://ag.ks.gov/docs/default-source/documents/2024-06-15-pfizer-complaint-(002).pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>, “Pfizer misled the public that it had a ‘safe and effective’ COVID-19 vaccine. Pfizer said its COVID-19 vaccine was safe even though it knew its COVID-19 vaccine was connected to serious adverse events, including myocarditis and pericarditis, failed pregnancies, and deaths. Pfizer concealed this critical safety information from the public.”
Pfizer said its COVID-19 vaccine was effective even though it knew its COVID-19 vaccine waned over time and did not protect against COVID-19 variants,” the lawsuit continues. “Pfizer concealed this critical effectiveness information from the public. Pfizer said its COVID-19 vaccine would prevent transmission of COVID-19 even though it knew it never studied the effect of its vaccine on transmission of COVID-19. To keep the public from learning the truth, Pfizer worked to censor speech on social media that questioned Pfizer’s claims about its COVID-19 vaccine. &#8230; Pfizer must be held accountable for falsely representing the benefits of its COVID- 19 vaccine while concealing and suppressing the truth about its vaccine’s safety risks, waning effectiveness, and inability to prevent transmission.”
Pfizer <a href="https://fox4kc.com/news/kansas-attorney-general-sues-pfizer-over-covid-vaccine-company-responds/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released the following statement</a> in response to the lawsuit:

The giant pharmaceutical company Pfizer is ready to pay between $200-250 million as a result of over 10,000 U.S. lawsuits involving supposed cancer risks associated with the drug Zantac, which it sold between 1998 and 2006, sources told the Financial Times.
Zantac was <a href="https://www.fda.gov/drugs/spotlight-cder-science/ensuring-rigor-regulatory-science-cder-conducts-laboratory-and-clinical-studies-investigate-reports#:~:text=Ranitidine%2C%20which%20blocks%20histamine%2Dinduced,over%2Dthe%2Dcounter%20product.">approved</a> in 1983, <a href="https://www.arnolditkin.com/blog/product-liability/history-of-zantac-ranitidine-/">becoming</a> the world’s largest-selling medicine by 1988. But in 2019, after a Connecticut lab heated ranitidine, the active ingredient in Zantac, and found “extremely high levels” of NDMA, a probable human carcinogen, the Food and Drug Administration <a href="https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-requests-removal-all-ranitidine-products-zantac-market" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> for Zantac and its generic equivalents to be pulled off the market in April 2020.
“The agency has determined that the impurity in some ranitidine products increases over time and when stored at higher than room temperatures and may result in consumer exposure to unacceptable levels of this impurity,” the FDA <a href="https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-requests-removal-all-ranitidine-products-zantac-market" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>. “As a result of this immediate market withdrawal request, ranitidine products will not be available for new or existing prescriptions or OTC use in the U.S.”
“Low levels of NDMA are commonly ingested in the diet, for example NDMA is present in foods and in water,” the FDA continued. “These low levels would not be expected to lead to an increase in the risk of cancer. However, sustained higher levels of exposure may increase the risk of cancer in humans. &#8230; New FDA testing and evaluation prompted by information from third-party laboratories confirmed that NDMA levels increase in ranitidine even under normal storage conditions, and NDMA has been found to increase significantly in samples stored at higher temperatures, including temperatures the product may be exposed to during distribution and handling by consumers. The testing also showed that the older a ranitidine product is, or the longer the length of time since it was manufactured, the greater the level of NDMA. These conditions may raise the level of NDMA in the ranitidine product above the acceptable daily intake limit.”

“The settlement — which was disclosed in a court filing in Delaware last week — is aimed at significantly reducing Pfizer’s potential liability,” Financial Times <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/9f59da60-4441-42c4-b84c-6de0c3931d08" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>, adding that Pfizer stated, “The company is confident that its Zantac products, which were reviewed and approved by the [US Food and Drug Administration], did not cause cancer when used as directed.”
