Canada has suspended the search for debris from an unidentified flying object (UFO) shot down over Lake Huron, according to officials.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced the decision in a statement on Thursday.

“After conducting an extensive search in the Lake Huron area with the assistance of the Canadian Coast Guard and other domestic and international partners, a decision was reached to suspend the search due to several factors including deteriorating weather and the low probability of recovery,” RCMP said.

A U.S. fighter jet shot down the UFO over Lake Huron, which is located between Michigan and Canada, on Sunday. The UFO was one of three brought down by the U.S. military over North America in the past week over concerns that they endangered civilian aircraft and possibly were conducting surveillance, according to U.S. and Canadian officials. The two other UFOs were blasted out of the sky over Alaska and Canada’s Yukon territory, following a suspected Chinese spy balloon flyover earlier this month.

White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Monday the debris from the UFO shot down over Lake Huron was believed to have landed on the Canadian side of the lake “in what is probably very deep water.” He also noted that searches were happening with the help of the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Daily Wire reached out to the U.S. Coast Guard for comment on whether the U.S. continues to search for debris. The Pentagon declined to comment. The weather forecast for locations on the U.S. and Canadian sides of the lake show temperatures below the freezing mark and snow for Thursday.

The search on Lake Huron included the Canadian Coast Guard’s CCGS Griffon, which carried a drone that would be assisted by helicopters, and the CCGS Samuel Risley icebreaker, equipped with underwater equipment, according to CTV News.

Search-and-recovery operations for debris in the sparsely populated Yukon territory, located in northwest Canada, remain active with the assistance of the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP said on Thursday.

“The conditions are extremely challenging with a very large search area, spanning 3,000 square kilometers, and consisting of rugged and mountainous terrain with a high level of snowpack and harsh winter conditions,” RCMP said. “We commend our members and partners for their professionalism and dedication.”

RCMP also said the investigation is “in its very early stages and will take time.”

The Pentagon has described the UFO shot down over Lake Huron as appearing to be octagonal with strings attached. Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, revealed on Tuesday that one missile fired by a U.S. fighter jet missed the UFO over Lake Huron and that missile landed “harmlessly” in the lake. A second missile from an F-16 brought down the flying object.

President Joe Biden said on Thursday the three downed UFOs do not appear to have been linked to any spy programs. “We don’t yet know what these three objects were, but nothing right now suggests that they were related to China’s spy balloon program or that they were surveillance vehicles from any other country,” he said. “The intelligence community’s current assessment is that these three objects were most likely balloons tied to private companies, recreation or research institutions studying weather or conducting other scientific research.”
