Campus Reform Names Shapiro Second-Place Winner In Higher Ed Heroes Awards

By  Daily Wire

Campus Reform, a conservative news website that focuses in higher education whose reporters are students, and received 9.3 million page views in the 2014-15 school year, has announced that Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro was voted second place in Campus Reform’s 2017 Higher Ed Heroes awards.

Campus Reform stated:

Shapiro, founder of one of the most popular conservative websites in the country and host of The Ben Shapiro Show, one of the nation’s top podcasts, is known for his fiery style of argumentation and verbal takedowns of liberal college students. He’s become one of the biggest fish in the conservative pond, partly by speaking on controversial topics across the country’s college campuses, where he is highly popular among conservative students, but despised by their liberal peers.

In one instance, the University of California, Berkeley had to fork over about $600,000 for security due to concerns that Shapiro’s presence on campus would lead to violent protests, even though the protests turned out to be peaceful. As a result of his personal experiences speaking on college campuses, Shapiro was invited to testify before the House Oversight Committee, which asked him to “identify harms of infringing on the right to free speech on college campuses” and provide “recommendations on how to encourage and protect First Amendment rights.”

As has been noted, Shapiro had a busy 2017; in February, speaking at Ferris State University, he had a memorable exchange with a student regarding transgenderism that triggered a video seen over 47 million times; in May he dismantled the emotional appeal Jimmy Kimmel made regarding Obamacare; at the end of July he was a key witness before Congress regarding free speech on campus, where the myriad and popular Ben Shapiro Thug Life videos became part of the congressional record.

Only days later, he soundly defeated Young Turks host Cenk Uygur in a debate at Politicon; then only days after that appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast, one of Rogen’s most highly-watched episodes, which propelled Shapiro’s podcast to rise to #2 of all podcasts; followed by the back-and-forth with the University of California, Berkeley about Shapiro’s scheduled September speech, which led to national news as the city of Berkeley shelled out $600,000 for police and other protection so the city would not have a riot when Shapiro spoke.

Then, October, when Shapiro was profiled by ABC’s Nightline, to late November, when The New York Times ran a 1,700 word profile of him, to the second week of December, when Fox News named him their Power Player of the Week.

Shapiro responded, “It’s an honor to be named to Campus Reform’s list. They do wonderful work covering the chaos on campuses.”
