One time a “moon landing denier” got in Buzz Aldrin’s face. So Aldrin, 72 years old at the time, punched the guy right in the jaw with a fierce right cross.
Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, is not a guy you want to mess around with, even at 88! And when he has an opinion, hoo boy you better believe he voices it.
Over the weekend, the astronaut weighed in on the new movie “First Man,” a biopic about the first man to step on the moon, Neil Armstrong. The movie stars actor Ryan Gosling — but not the American flag. The moment when the U.S. flag was planted on the moon was omitted from the movie because, as Gosling said, “I think this was widely regarded in the end as a human achievement [and] that’s how we chose to view it.”
On Sunday, Aldrin tweeted a picture of the flag planted on the moon during the landing in 1969.
He hashtagged the photo: “Proud to be an American.” Aldrin also re-tweeted a photo of him saluting next to the same picture.
The film is also not kind to Aldrin, portraying him as an “obnoxious loudmouth” and “so blunt about his ambition that no one can stand him,” the Daily Mail reports. “Other reviews described [actor Corey] Stoll’s Aldrin as a ‘swaggering hothead’ who is ‘cynical, mouthy and insensitive’ while one reviewer said his appearances were so scarce that he was all but left out of the film,” said the Mail.
One Twitter follower said he planned to boycott the movie over the omission of the American flag.
Let’s hope lots of other good Americans do the same thing.
