Bruce Springsteen announced Wednesday that he’s canceling the remainder of his September concerts under the recommendation of medical professionals.

The 73-year-old singer has been dealing with symptoms from peptic ulcer disease, which caused him to previously cancel a concert at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on August 16 just hours before it was supposed to begin.

“Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” The Boss shared in a statement posted on social media.

“First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times,” the update continued. “We’ll be back soon. Love and God bless all, Bruce.”

The statement said the cancellations were made due to the recommendation of Springsteen’s medical advisors.

Springsteen has been touring since the beginning of February. The tour kicked off in Tampa, Florida, before heading to Europe for a while. The musician hasn’t taken much time off in between, but he postponed shows prior to the Philadelphia cancellation due to illness, which he didn’t elaborate on at the time.

The tour is currently scheduled to continue through the rest of the year on the West Coast, with his final concert scheduled for December 10 in San Francisco. There’s no update on whether those dates will also be postponed or changed.

Besides just having a grueling tour schedule, Springsteen has also been blamed for musicians being expected to play for hours. Former Beatles band member Paul McCartney said the musician started the trend that’s continued over the years.

“These days it’s pretty much the main act and there might be a warm up act,” McCartney told late night host Conan O’Brien during an interview for his “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast in July. He said that never used to be the standard.

“Now, people do three, four hours. I blame Bruce Springsteen. I’ve told him so. I’ve said, ‘It’s your fault,’” the 81-year-old songwriter continued. “You can’t now do an hour. We used to do a half hour. That was like The Beatles’ thing. Half an hour, and we got paid for it.”
