According to a new report, U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has offered her resignation to President Trump. Jonathan Swan of Axios reports, “President Trump has accepted Nikki Haley’s resignation as UN Ambassador, according to two sources briefed on their conversation. The timing of her departure is still unclear. … Haley discussed her resignation with Trump last week when she visited him at the White House, these sources said.”
Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, was confirmed as U.N. Ambassador almost immediately after Trump’s inauguration. Her hardline positions on everything from the U.S. withdrawal from the notorious Human Rights Council to support for Israel to Russia had won her great admiration, to the point where polls said she was the most popular politician in America. An April 2018 Quinnipiac poll found Haley garnering a whopping 63% approval rate from Americans, with 75% of Republicans, 63% of independents and 55% of Democrats approving of her job performance. That last figure was, astonishingly, equal among democrats to the approval rates of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (56%) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (55%).
Haley called the U.N. Human Rights Council, with its huge animus toward Israel, the U.N.’s greatest failure. Her blunt attitude regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was evidenced time and time again. She blasted the Obama administration for abstaining on the vote for U.N. resolution 2334, which denied the Jewish claim to the Temple Mount, the holiest place in Jerusalem; excoriated the U.N. for its animus toward Israel and tore into the U.N. Security Council for criticizing the Trump Administration’s decision to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
Haley also slammed Russia for its support for the Assad regime in Syria after the regime reportedly launched a chemical weapons attack, looking directly at the Russian Ambassador and asking, “How many more children have to die before Russia cares? The United States sees yesterday’s attack as a disgrace at the highest level and assurance that humanity means nothing to the Syrian government.” She ripped the Obama Administration for its support of the Castro regime in Cuba. Most recently, she grabbed a megaphone and told protesters demonstrating against the socialist government of Venezuela that the Trump administration was solidly behind them.
