On Thursday, the Broward County sheriff said that the school resource officer at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School avoided the building where an 18-year-old gunman slaughtered 17 students.
Marc Caputo, a journalist for Politico’s Florida Bureau, further noted details from the news conference where Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel was speaking.
“Sheriff Scott Israel said Officer Scott Peterson failed by waiting outside the Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS building for about 4 of 6 minutes while [the shooter] killed 17 people,” wrote Caputo in a follow-up tweet. “What should Peterson have done[?] Israel [replied]: ‘Went in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer.'”
