NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MARCH 22: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg leaves his office as the grand jury continues to hear evidence against former President Donald Trump on March 22, 2023 in New York City. The grand jury is meeting to decide if Trump should be indicted in connection with a hush-money payment involving adult film actress Stephanie Clifford, who is known as Stormy Daniels. Trump has called on his supporters to protest any such move.

Leftist Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg accused Republicans on Friday of interfering with his investigation of former President Donald Trump after an indictment for Trump was issued on Thursday.

Top House Republicans opened an investigation and sent a letter to Bragg last week as it was rumored that Trump would be indicted. In the letter, the Republicans asked to interview Bragg and sought documents and communications related to the district attorney’s investigation into Trump. Following Trump’s indictment, the Manhattan district attorney’s legal counsel fired back at Republicans.

“The Committees’ attempted interference with an ongoing state criminal investigation — and now prosecution — is an unprecedented and illegal incursion on New York’s sovereign interests,” wrote Leslie Dubeck, the general counsel for Bragg’s office, according to Fox News.

“We urge you to refrain from these inflammatory accusations, withdraw your demand for information, and let the criminal justice process proceed without unlawful political interference,” the letter added.

Bragg is leading the investigation into Trump for his alleged $130,000 hush money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election cycle. House Republicans, however, view Bragg’s prosecution of a former president and current presidential candidate as an “unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority.”

After Trump was indicted on Thursday, Bragg’s office explained its actions in the unprecedented case.

“This evening we contacted Mr. Trump’s attorney to coordinate his surrender to the Manhattan D.A.’s Office for arraignment on a Supreme Court indictment, which remains under seal. Guidance will be provided when the arraignment date is selected,” Bragg’s office wrote.

Trump responded to his indictment Thursday, accusing Bragg and Democrats of seeking to “destroy” his movement with a political “witch hunt.”

“This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history,” Trump said. “From the time I came down the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your President of the United States, the Radical Left Democrats — the enemy of the hard-working men and women of this Country — have been engaged in a Witch-Hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement.”
