A Border Patrol agent was killed in Texas on Wednesday when his ATV crashed during a high-speed pursuit of a group of illegal immigrants.

U.S. Border Patrol has not yet confirmed the agent’s identity but noted that he was a father of two children.

“On December 7, 2022, at approximately 1:00 am, a Border Patrol agent assigned to the McAllen Station patrolling the international boundary on an all-terrain vehicle was tracking a group of subjects that illegally crossed the border when he was involved in a crash near Mission, Texas,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection released in a statement.

“He was found unresponsive by fellow agents who immediately initiated life-saving efforts and requested EMS. The agent was taken to an area hospital by ambulance where he later passed away,” it added.

“The death of an Agent who died while securing our nation’s border is a tremendous loss for our organization and our nation, our prayers are with his family and co-workers during this difficult time,” Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz added.

The report comes one day after President Joe Biden traveled to Arizona, approximately 100 miles from the southern border, but said he would not visit.

“Why go to a border state and not visit the border?” Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked Biden.

“Because there are more important things going on,” Biden said bluntly. “They’re going to invest billions of dollars in a new enterprise.”

A Tuesday Twitter post by the Border Patrol Union blasted Biden’s reluctance to prioritize the border crisis.

“Visiting an ice cream shop: Very important,” the account tweeted. “Visiting our border, where illegal immigration, deaths, escapes and fentanyl smuggling set new records non-stop with thousands dying as a result: Not important.”

The death of the Border Patrol agent also comes as many predict migrant crossings along the southern border are about to worsen. Title 42, a Trump-era policy that allows agents to turn away migrants due to COVID concerns, is set to expire on December 21.

Fifteen state attorneys general petitioned a federal judge to intervene.

“Because invalidation of the Title 42 Orders will directly harm the States, they now seek to intervene to offer a defense of the Title 42 policy so that its validity can be resolved on the merits, rather than through strategic surrender,” the court filing said.

“[B]order states like Arizona and Texas will face increased migrant flows and increasd [sic] releases of aliens if the Title 42 process is terminated. Those aliens will flow to other States, too,” it added.

In May, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted that the end of Title 42 could result in up to 18,000 migrant crossings per day. If so, the nation could see more than a half-million illegal immigrants per month entering the U.S.
