The Biden campaign is pushing back on reports that the president is considering dropping out of the race.

Recent meetings between prominent Democrats and Biden have leaked to the press, namely that senior members of Congress are reportedly telling Biden it is time to suspend his reelection campaign.

On Thursday, Biden campaign senior advisor TJ Ducklo attempted to dispel any remaining doubt that Biden would remain in the race.

“Joe Biden is his party’s nominee. He’s the President of the United States. He’s running for reelection,” Ducklo wrote in a post on X.

“Baseless conjecture from anonymous sources isn’t a scoop. Tonight a convicted felon will talk about how he’ll make people’s lives worse if he gains power. Let’s focus,” Ducklo said.

On Wednesday, it leaked that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) had both met with Biden in person and reportedly told him he should end his reelection campaign for the good of the country.

“Leader Schumer conveyed the views of his caucus,” Schumer’s office told ABC’s Jonathan Karl, who first reported the meetings.

“The letter sent by Leader Hakeem Jeffries to his House Democratic colleagues speaks for itself. It was a private conversation that will remain private,” a spokesman for Jeffries told Karl.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) also reportedly told the president privately that he cannot win in November and could even ruin Democrats’ chances of winning the House if he stays in the race.

Biden reportedly pushed back, telling Pelosi that the polls he has seen indicate that he can win, prompting Pelosi to ask a longtime Biden advisor to get on the call to discuss the polling.

Meanwhile, more Democrats are going public with their calls for Biden to drop out.

Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Thursday that it is time for Biden to “pass the torch.”

“I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November,” Schiff said.

Biden is currently taking a break from public events and self-isolating in Delaware after he tested positive for COVID on Wednesday. Biden is “experiencing mild symptoms,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

Former President Donald Trump currently leads Biden nationally by 2.7 percentage points, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls. He also leads in eight swing states, including Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia.

At this time in 2020, Biden was leading Trump by 8.8 percentage points, according to RealClearPolitics.

Trump is set to address the Republican National Convention Thursday evening, just days after the assassination attempt on his life at Saturday’s rally in Pennsylvania, where a gunman grazed his ear with a bullet.
