Australians living in the United States are “sickened” and upset about Roe V. Wade being overturned — despite their home country’s own limitations on abortion that are based on what territory/state one lives in.
The United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) recently overturned the landmark 1973 ruling as a result of the 6-3 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The court said there is no constitutional right to an abortion and returns the issue to the states to pass abortion legislation, as The Daily Wire previously reported.
Freelance writer Sophie Hanson, who moved from Australia to New York City in 2019, told Crikey she was “sickened” by the ruling, the Daily Mail reported in a piece published Thursday.
“The fact that only six unelected people can make a religious-based ruling that impacts half the country is horrid, dangerous and hypocritical,” Hanson shared, before she repeated the latest lie from the left that “a gun has more rights in this country than my uterus.”
Hanson and her husband do not have children, but said the latest move by SCOTUS has made her reconsider living here. She told the outlet that if the U.S. government implemented a nationwide abortion ban, she’d definitely think about moving back.
“I am terrified of a future where hardline Christian Republican Mike Pence, who’s right now calling for a national abortion ban, wins the presidency,” the writer explained. “If he does, that might convince me to move.”
In the state of New York, where the writer lives, abortion is legal and there has been no sign from leaders in that state that will change anytime soon. Other states that have shown no interest in banning abortions include California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Nevada and Colorado.
Digital strategist Michael Chaitow said America was heading “in the wrong direction” after the landmark 1973 ruling was overturned and after the court struck down the state of New York’s restrictions on concealed carry firearms permits.
Chaitow moved to the U.S. in 2019 and said the country was headed to a “less safe, less equal and less healthy society.”
Abortions were still illegal in parts of Australia until 2021. It is currently legal in all states and territories in that country, “under certain circumstances and when it is performed by a registered doctor,” as SBS News noted.
