<p style="font-weight: 400;">House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green (R-TN) harshly reacted to reports that Vice President Kamala Harris planned a trip to the Southwest border of the United States on Friday, snapping that she was the “arsonist returning to the scene of the fire.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Harris was charged by President Joe Biden with responsibility for handling the border crisis: in March 2021. Biden <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2021/03/24/remarks-by-president-biden-and-vice-president-harris-in-a-meeting-on-immigration/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>, “I’ve asked her, the VP, today — because she’s the most qualified person to do it — to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“It’s been more than three years since Vice President and ‘border czar’ Kamala Harris last went to the border, and her last-ditch visit now is little more than the arsonist returning to the scene of the fire,” Green fired. “Since President Biden charged her with stemming the historic surge of illegal aliens across our sovereign borders, CBP has recorded more than 10 million inadmissible alien encounters, more than triple the number recorded under the prior administration. Millions of these individuals, along with roughly two million known gotaways, have descended on every community in this country, putting a massive strain on local resources and causing untold pain and suffering for families of innocent Americans like Rachel Morin, Laken Riley, and Jocelyn Nungaray.”</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">“Vice President Harris has no interest in securing the border and ending this crisis—because it is the Biden-Harris administration’s refusal to enforce the laws passed by Congress that caused it in the first place,” he concluded.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens says Vice President Kamala Harris has not spoken with him since he was appointed in July 2023,” <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/immigration/border-coverage/kamala-harris-border-patrol-chiefs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NewsNation</a> pointed out in July. “Retired Border Patrol chief Raul Ortiz told CBS in March he also never spoke with Harris his tenure from August 2021 through June 2023.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">In September 2022, Harris <a href="https://cbsaustin.com/news/nation-world/vice-president-kamal-harris-under-fire-for-saying-the-border-is-secure-mark-morgan-united-states-customs-order-protection-immigration-migrants-joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">insisted</a>, “The border is secure. &#8230; We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration.” The same month, she <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/sep/21/haitian-migrants-texas-del-rio-bridge-expelled-us-mexico" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slandered</a> Mounted Border Patrol agents after <a href="https://www.heritage.org/immigration/heritage-explains/caught-lie-border-patrol-agents-never-whipped-migrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">false claims</a> of them whipping illegal immigrants came forth, saying, “What I saw depicted, those individuals on horseback treating human beings the way they were, was horrible. &#8230; Human beings should never be treated that way. And I’m deeply troubled about it.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">In 2015, she <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/undocumented-immigrant-not-a-criminal-california-attorney-general-says/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> CBS, “An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.”</p>
