Anti-Sexual Harassment Swag? Oscars Gift Bags Are Packed With #MeToo-Themed Goodies

   DailyWire.com

Every year, celebrities come away with hundred-thousand-dollar goodie bags just for presenting at the Oscars. Typically, those “swag bags” contain everything from tony vacations to high-value baubles. And this year, keeping with the theme of “#MeToo,” it seems they’ll also contain a number of anti-sexual harassment and anti-rape devices.

According to high-end electronic security company, Sabre, who is sponsoring the five-item self-defense pack in every Oscar door prize gift bag, Academy Award nominees and statuette presenters will get a key-ring pepper spray canister, a larger gel pepper canister, two hideable body alarms, and a kit that can test whether someone has drugged your drink with GHB.

“This event is a unique opportunity for us to lend a helping hand in the #MeToo movement with solutions that take aim at the harassment culture that’s been pervasive most notably in the entertainment industry and in broader society,” Sabre’s CEO told Yahoo News.

Sabre is the world’s leading pepper spray company, according to its website. They also offer bear and dog sprays, as well as free training seminars on how to use their products. The key chains and body alarms cost between $10 and $25 each.

Weirdly enough, though, Sabre won’t be the only company offering a pepper spray in this year’s swag bags. A new security company called Pepperface is offering free self-defense trinkets to stars as well.

“In the aftermath of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, PepperFace is arriving in Hollywood at the perfect time,” the CEO of Pepperface told Yahoo. “We want to be an awareness symbol to help end violence against women and also provide resources for those unfortunate enough to have become a victim of violence.”

Of course, that’s not all that will be in the gift bags. This year, presenters and nominees will receive an eleven day trip to Tanzania, a 23&Me genetic testing kit, weight loss supplements, a $10,000 donation made in their name to an animal welfare charity, a certificate for a 24-karat gold facial, access to a new dating app, and an $86 “jewelry box” of chocolate. It’s not clear whether the box is for the chocolate or made out of chocolate, however.
