While a number of people took to social media to complain about the numerous celebrities and politicos who ignored SoFi Stadium’s mask mandate while taking in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI, comedian Adam Carolla offered a possible explanation for at least one offender.

Pointing to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti — who explained away a maskless photo with former NBA player Magic Johnson by claiming he had held his breath — Carolla suggested an … alternate theory.

“You know how I talk out of my a** … Well, I can breathe out of it too,” Carolla tweeted along with a photo of Garcetti standing with several others at the big game, all of whom are either not wearing masks or have their masks pulled below their chins.

Garcetti, who has imposed mask mandates in Los Angeles, was also photographed maskless at the last championship game at SoFi Stadium — where masks were required, even outdoors, until Wednesday — and he claimed to have “held his breath” when removing his mask for photos.

As The Daily Wire reported:

Asked about photos of him maskless with Los Angeles Lakers icon Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Garcetti stated, “I’ll take personal responsibility, and if it makes you and everyone else happy — or even the photographs with people where literally I’m holding my breath for two seconds — I won’t even do that,” Deadline reported.

“I wore my mask the entire game,” Garcetti protested. “When people ask for a photograph, I hold my breath and I put it here and people can see that. There is a zero percent chance of infection from that.”

Los Angeles rolled back outdoor mask mandates for schools, mega events, and a number of other venues in the days following Sunday’s big game — where other pro-mask celebrities such as Charlize Theron, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and more were seen enjoying the game mask-free.

Carolla recently called out Bill Maher’s audience for applauding the HBO host’s call for a return to normal after two years of COVID-19 related restrictions.

As The Daily Wire reported:

“Watching the Bill Maher show. Now you p***ies clap when Bill talks about getting back to normal. Shut the f*** up and admit you were wrong,” Carolla tweeted.

Carolla’s Daily Wire series “Adam Carolla: Truth Yeller,” is an effort to return to the days when comedians told the truth whether or not it was potentially “offensive.”

“Comedians used to be society’s truth-tellers. Pointing out life’s absurdities, regardless of whose feelings might be slightly offended. In a world of microaggressions, pearl-clutching and faux outrage, Adam Carolla has had to take truth-telling to another level,” reads the series description. “Truth Yeller gives you a little stand-up, a little interview, a little improv, and a lot of laughs—all through the lens of one of the most important voices in America: the voice of a comedian.”
