Uber left CNN political commentator Van Jones said he was taken aback by the “character switch” during New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s victory speech.
“I think he missed an opportunity. I think the Mamdani that we saw in the campaign trail, who was a lot more calm, who was a lot warmer, who was a lot more embracing, was not present in that speech,” the commentator said while participating in a panel discussion for CNN.
“There are a lot of people trying to figure out, ‘Can I get on this train with him or not? Is he going to include me? Is he going to be more of a class warrior even in office?’ I think he missed a chance tonight to open up and bring more people into the tent,” Jones added.
“I think his tone was sharp. I think he was using the microphone in a way that he was almost yelling,” he went on. “That’s not the Mamdani that we’ve seen on TikTok and the great interviews and stuff like that.”
“I felt like it was a little bit of a character switch here,” Jones noted, wondering why the “warm, open, embracing guy” was gone during his first statements to the public following his big win in NYC.

“That said, he’s very young and he just pulled off something very, very difficult. I wouldn’t write him off, but I think he missed an opportunity to open himself up tonight and I think that that will probably cost him going forward.”
Mamdani, 35, who has not been shy about his embrace of socialism, promised in his victory speech to freeze rents for more than one million New Yorkers, provide free busing, and offer universal childcare, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdanis-party-nycs-new-mayor-celebrates-win-by-channeling-americas-marxist-icon">reported</a>. 
“For as long as we can remember, the working people of New York have been told by the wealthy and the well-connected that power does not belong in their hands,” he said during his speech. “The future is in our hands. My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life. But let tonight be the final time I utter his name, as we turn the page on a politics that abandons the many and answers only to the few.”
Mamdani’s speech focused on class warfare and identity politics, plus included negative comments about President Donald Trump, whom he called a “despot.”
“If we embrace this brave new course, rather than fleeing from it, we can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves,” he said. “After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump, how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.”

Yesterday, I covered at <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-savage-crime-the-media-doesnt-want-you-to-know-about">great length</a> the horrific killing of Iryna Zarutska, the 23 year-old Ukrainian refugee who was savagely stabbed to death on a train in Charlotte by DeCarlos Brown, an evil, psychotic criminal barbarian with a lengthy rap sheet. To review: Iryna was on her way home from a shift at the pizza place where she worked. She boarded the light rail car and sat down in front of Brown without a single word exchanged between them. A few minutes into the ride, Brown pulled out a knife, stood up, and began butchering Iryna to death without warning. He then proceeded to walk around the train, leaving a trail of blood behind him. Nobody attempted to intervene at any point.
We now know Brown had been arrested 14 times before this awful crime was committed. The criminal justice system — which has no interest in dispensing justice to criminals — had 14 chances to get this creature off the street. They could have permanently removed him from society after the third arrest, or the fourth, or the seventh, or the tenth, but instead they gave him 14 chances. Even after he committed armed robbery, and assault, and more than a dozen other crimes. The system simply churned him back out, waited for him to get arrested again, and then churned him out again, like some kind of demonic merry-go-round.
This is a huge national story. A young woman lost her life in one of the most heinous ways imaginable. It is everything that George Floyd was purported to be, but never actually was. Floyd’s death didn’t matter that much. He was a violent career criminal who contributed nothing of value to society and then overdosed. Iryna, on the other hand, is an actual innocent victim of brutal interracial violence. Her death is a major scandal. It is the direct result of deep and widespread systemic failures and corruption. She should have the murals and the streets named after her. The judges and city officials who let her killer loose on the street should all get the Derek Chauvin treatment.
Instead, up until yesterday, Iryna’s case, far from being treated like a national scandal, was completely ignored by the national media. None of the major national outlets had said a word about it. CNN and MSNBC hadn’t spent even 30 seconds of airtime reporting on it. The New York Times and the Washington Post hadn&#8217;t dedicated 5 sentences of coverage to it. It was a total media blackout, made all the more infuriating by how utterly, disgustingly predictable it was.
But these days the media don’t lead the conversation, as much as they wish they could. The conversation happens without them, until they are forced to chime in for fear of being reduced to permanent irrelevance. So, over the 24 hours since our episode aired, finally some of the major corporate outlets decided to acknowledge this case, as we had left them no choice. And their spin is exactly what you would expect. To the media, the story isn&#8217;t the murder itself, but the fact that conservatives are talking about the murder. It isn’t that a black criminal butchered an innocent white woman, but that we have noticed it.

There are now headlines like this one from Politico: “Ukrainian refugee killed in North Carolina gets dragged into political messaging war. President Donald Trump and MAGA allies are using the killing of Iryna Zarutska to attack Democrats.” Yes, you see, Democrats are really the victims here. A young woman bled to death in public but the real concern is that Democrats are being attacked by conservative pundits on social media.
Axios had a similar spin. Headline: “Stabbing video fuels MAGA&#8217;s crime message.” They’re right, of course. The stabbing video does fuel our crime message. That’s because our crime message is that crime is bad. And people who commit crimes should go to prison, and not be permitted to stab women to death on the train. In the same way you could say that a video of a house fire fuels our firefighting message, which is that it’s bad for houses to burn down, and we should put out the fires rather than allowing them to engulf entire neighborhoods. Our messages tend to be pretty simple in that way.
But there is one part of this absurd <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/11/12/trump-media-maga-influencers-election">Axios piece</a> that warrants special mention:

The video is easily shared or leaked, and can instantly pollinate across social media — a visual counterpoint to statistics showing crime decreases.”</blockquote>
That’s correct. As I&#8217;ve covered extensively in the past, crime stats can be manipulated in many ways. You can show “decreases&#8221; in violent crime simply by now reporting the crime, or not charging the criminals. If a city decides to pretend that vast categories of crime are no longer crimes, then “crime,” statistically, will go down. It is not hard to make a city safer on the stat sheet.
Making it safer on the light rail car, however, is a different matter. A city can be safe on a sheet of paper, but not safe on the street, or the sidewalk, or at the gas station, or on public transportation, and so on.
The videos break through the false narratives and the juked crime stats by showing us what’s actually happening. It is one thing to hear that a city has X number of murders. It&#8217;s another thing to see what that means, to see how these murders are happening, and where they&#8217;re happening, and who they&#8217;re happening to, and who they’re being committed by. That’s why all of the security cameras and police body cameras are becoming a major problem for the Left. Don’t be surprised when there’s a major push to get rid of the cameras in the name of “privacy.” As we’ve talked about many times, we&#8217;ve already seen the beginnings of this process with police body cams. The left-wing race hustlers demanded the body cams, and then the body cams proceeded to annihilate all of their narratives about police brutality, and now they’re not so hot on body cams anymore. A similar thing will happen — and is already beginning to happen — with security cameras.

So, he has ten cameras because of a rash of attempted break-ins. The cameras have been used not only to protect himself against burglary and other crimes, but to help solve and prevent other crimes in the neighborhood. Now his local city school marm bureaucratic tyrants are telling him to take the cameras down because of &#8220;privacy&#8221; concerns. But we all know the real concern. It’s that the cameras are not only documenting crime, but documenting who is actually committing most of the crime. And that is the thing we aren&#8217;t supposed to notice. The noticing is the problem.
That’s certainly what CNN is worried about:

So the narrative we hear from the media is as predictable as it is revolting. They are infinitely more outraged at the alleged “racially charged language” of conservative pundits than they are at the actual butchery of an innocent woman by a 14 time career felon on public transportation. They are not angry that this woman was killed. They couldn’t care less. They wouldn&#8217;t even be talking about it, if they had their way. Instead they’re outraged by the “racism” of conservatives who have noticed that the murder happens.
Then we hear from Van Jones that we can’t say for sure whether that black criminal killed Iryna because she was white. So just to review: the media can say for sure that it’s racist to say mean things about a black guy who killed a white woman, but they can&#8217;t say for sure that it’s racist for a black guy to actually kill a white woman. The murder isn’t racist. The commentary is. That&#8217;s what these despicable snakes are actually claiming.
Keep in mind, this is coming from the same people who declared from the first moment that the George Floyd footage went viral that it was a racist hate crime. There was nothing in the video — not a single thing — that indicated any kind of racial motivation whatsoever. And yet when a black suspect ODs while being detained by a white cop, it&#8217;s a racist killing. When a black criminal slaughters a white woman on the train, it’s a mental health episode. This is what these soulless goblins expect us to believe.
Hey, Van, here&#8217;s what we know. Statistically, a white person is 30 times more likely to be killed by a black person than the other way around. In 2019, there were about 560 thousand violent interracial incidents between blacks and whites. 470 thousand of them were black on white. That&#8217;s 85%. 240 black people were killed by whites. 560 white people were killed by blacks. And this is all in spite of the fact that white people make up 60% of the population. Blacks are 13%. Just by raw numbers — not even per capita, but raw numbers — there are more black interracial killers than white. There are 171 million more white people in the country, and yet there are more black interracial killers. That kind of disparity should be impossible. And yet it&#8217;s real, and it&#8217;s happening.
Per capita, the situation is even more dire. Black people — young black males in particular — are an order of magnitude more violent and more likely to commit crimes than any other group in the country. Black men are 5 or 6% of the population but they commit the majority of murders in this country. That makes black males in America more dangerous than perhaps any other demographic in the entire world, let alone the country. And we know all of this despite the efforts by the FBI and every other institution to hide and bury racial crime statistics. Imagine how much worse it really is. Imagine how grisly it would look if they let us see the whole picture, instead of just pieces of it.
But we can see enough to know, without any doubt whatsoever, that the violent crime epidemic is driven by one demographic to an overwhelmingly disproportionate degree. And all of this has happened while you, Van, and your propagandist cohorts, have spent years claiming that the reality is exactly the opposite of this. You paint a picture of a country where black people walk around in fear of white violence. Where black people are constantly tired and exhausted by the brutality inflicted upon them by the villainous whites.
But those of us who you condemn as “racists” — we are the ones who are tired. We are tired of not being able to walk down the street in our own cities. We are tired of losing good, productive citizens at the hands of violent degenerates who contribute nothing to society. We are tired of the total lack of accountability and responsibility. We are tired of a system that prioritizes the “restoration” and “rehabilitation&#8221; of violent psychopaths over the protection of innocent, law abiding people. And we are tired of pretending that all of this isn’t happening. We aren&#8217;t going to pretend anymore.

CNN&#8217;s Van Jones warned progressives to &#8220;get on board&#8221; with President Donald Trump&#8217;s position on Iran — namely that the Islamist state cannot be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon of any kind.
Jones, who served in former President Barack Obama&#8217;s administration as the Green Jobs Czar, spoke from his own experience visiting Israel and argued that the United States could not treat Iran as a &#8220;normal country&#8221; when it came to implementing foreign policy.

Or is America going to take it out by dropping a bomb that blows it up? But the what and the why are clear, and I think progressives should get on board with that.&#8221;
&#8220;We cannot have a nuclear-armed Iran,&#8221; Jones insisted, again recounting his time in Israel. &#8220;This is a very dangerous power that cannot get a nuclear weapon.&#8221;

CNN commentator Van Jones said on Sunday that his party was effectively broken, and unless Democrats found a way to recalibrate and get it together, they were going to continue to struggle with messaging and with reaching any policy goals.
Jones joined anchor Jessica Dean on &#8220;CNN Newsroom Sunday,&#8221; and she asked him to weigh in on the state of the Democratic Party — particularly after repeated disruptions both during and after President Donald Trump&#8217;s Tuesday address before the joint session of Congress.
&#8220;Can we ask another question?&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/libsoftiktok/status/1899154736630149441" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jones asked</a> at first, expressing reluctance to go down that particular road. &#8220;Can we talk about Ukraine or something?&#8221;
&#8220;Look, man, we’re screwed,&#8221; Jones said, resigning himself to the topic at hand. &#8220;I mean, we don’t know, Democrats don’t know what to do. This is — this is a nightmare. You know, somebody like Donald Trump, we thought we’d at least have Hakeem Jeffries in the Speaker’s chair to hold him back if we didn’t have Kamala in there to do the right thing.&#8221;
Jones went on to address some of the reasons he believed Democrats had been struggling, arguing that they had chosen a losing message in 2024 and it was still dogging them.
&#8220;Listen, the Democratic Party is going through a massive set of internal crises. You have a party that got trapped two ways. One, defending a broken status quo that nobody likes because they thought that Donald Trump was going to make it worse. But when you’re defending the status quo, you’re going to lose,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;And then offending most people in the country, calling everybody sexist and racist and transphobic and every other name, and then saying, &#8216;Please follow us.&#8217; That’s not a good strategy, folks.&#8221;
&#8220;Defending a broken status quo and offending most of the country, turns out, is not as popular as my party thought it was going to be,&#8221; Jones concluded. &#8220;And so it’s going to take a while for people to get it figured out.&#8221;

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cnn" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN&#8217;s</a> Kate Bolduan panicked on Friday after new polling from the network showed that regardless of how former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris performed during this week&#8217;s debate, voters still overwhelmingly said that Trump was the better choice for the economy.
Bolduan made the remarks on the network&#8217;s &#8220;News Central&#8221; while talking to far-Left commentator Van Jones and CNN Republican Alyssa Farah Griffin.
The poll found that the margin of voters who said Trump was better for the economy than Harris increased from 16% to 20% after the debate, increasing Trump&#8217;s lead to 55%-35% over Harris.
“We’ve got the Fed very likely looking to cut rates for the first time since early pandemic days,&#8221; she said. &#8220;What does that mean for this point in the campaign? Because it’s a funky place. You’ve got, potentially, a good sign that Kamala Harris can talk about, kind of quote-unquote late-stage change, but you still have Donald Trump killing her when it comes to the economy. In that snap poll after the debate, he was up 20 points on the economy even though the vast majority said she won the debate.&#8221;
Later during the segment, she expressed frustration over the Biden-Harris administration&#8217;s messaging surrounding the economy.

CNN&#8217;s Van Jones proved on Monday that he was all in for Vice President Kamala Harris now that she&#8217;s ascended to the top of the 2024 Democratic presidential ticket — but he made the mistake of asking an open-ended question in his glowing X post about her, and did he ever get answers.
The exchange began with a post from Adam Cohen, who shared a New York Times/Siena College Poll that showed Kamala Harris pulling ahead of former President Donald Trump in three key states: Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

CNN&#8217;s Van Jones said on Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris deciding to pick Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) to be her running mate and not Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) was about &#8220;caving&#8221; to far-Left voices within the Democratic Party that are anti-Semitic.
Jones made the remarks after being asked on the network about Harris&#8217; decision not to go with Shapiro, who was viewed by many strategists as the strongest pick she could have made.
&#8220;The conservatives, the right-wing, the Republicans, they were chewing their fingernails down to the knuckle because they were afraid of a Josh Shapiro,&#8221; Jones said. &#8220;They were afraid of a Mark Kelly. They&#8217;re not as afraid of this new governor because they think they can define him.&#8221;
&#8220;Here&#8217;s the challenge you&#8217;ve got in this party, and people don&#8217;t want to talk about it, but we&#8217;ve got to talk about it,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;On the one hand, you have a lot of young people who are concerned about Gaza. Democrats are privately in agreement that President Joe Biden should be replaced after his poor performance during last week’s presidential debate, according to former Obama administration official Van Jones.
Jones, a CNN political commentator, said on the network that Democrats are privately discussing how, not whether, to replace Biden as the Democratic Party’s nominee for president. 
“Behind the scenes, it’s full-scale panic. People are passing around legal memos, PDFs are flying back and forth on WhatsApp, trying to figure out what are the options?” Jones said on Wednesday. “How can you replace Biden? How do you get him to do it in a way where he feels respected, as he should be respected? Who should Kamala Harris’ vice president be? The conversation on air and the conversation off air are completely different.”
“We have someone who loves this country. We have someone who has given his all – I mean, his all, to the last drop – for this country, but he may not be able to get across the finish line,” Jones said of the president. “A mature party has to take that into account, and that is what’s happening. I understand people want to, you know, defend him and protect him and give him the space and the dignity to make his own choice. But there is a big conversation happening right now about how this happens – not whether.”

Biden is facing growing calls to step aside as the Democratic Party’s nominee for president. Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas became the first Democrat in Congress to publicly call for Biden to drop out of the race on Tuesday, followed shortly after by Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva, the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee.
“What he needs to do is shoulder the responsibility for keeping that seat — and part of that responsibility is to get out of this race,” Grijalva <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/03/us/politics/raul-grijalva-biden-drop-out.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times.
Biden has repeatedly insisted that he is staying in the race. In an interview with a Milwaukee radio show on Wednesday, the president brushed off his feeble performance in last week’s presidential debate.
“I had a bad night,” Biden <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jul/04/biden-interview-debate-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “And the fact of the matter is that I screwed up. I made a mistake. That’s 90 minutes onstage – look at what I’ve done in three and a half years.”

The pro-Hamas extremists <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jews-beaten-by-pro-hamas-extremists-outside-synagogue-in-los-angeles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gathered</a> in front of the Adas Torah synagogue on Sunday morning to block entrance into a building that was hosting an Israeli real estate seminar, which later drew pro-Israel counterprotestors.
&#8220;Listen, if you don&#8217;t like what&#8217;s happening in Gaza, it&#8217;s your right to protest. That&#8217;s not a problem. But you protest a policy. You don&#8217;t protest a people,&#8221; Jones said. &#8220;You don&#8217;t bum-rush a Jewish neighborhood and run up on a synagogue. That&#8217;s not protesting a policy. That&#8217;s protesting a people. And that is a cross of any line in America. And it has to be called out.&#8221;
&#8220;And you have to also understand the context here. This is a neighborhood that&#8217;s already been traumatized, not just October 7th, which traumatized all Jewish communities, but that neighborhood in particular,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Last year, in February, not one, but two Jewish men, Orthodox Jewish men, were gunned down, were shot in two back-to-back hate crimes. So you&#8217;re dealing with the community that&#8217;s already traumatized. They&#8217;re already fearful. And then you go and you do something like this.&#8221;
He said that what the Left-wing group did was not a protest but a &#8220;pogrom&#8221; — an event designed to violently attack Jews.
&#8220;I think it&#8217;s a little bit naive for some of the people to think that if Israel would just suddenly just stop doing what it&#8217;s doing, that rainbows and bunnies and sunshine would break out over the Middle East, it would all be fine,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The hostages have to be returned. People have called for a ceasefire, call for ceasefire on both sides. Hamas is still firing its rockets. They still have hostages kidnapped. So this is a complex issue. But here&#8217;s what&#8217;s not complicated. Politics can be complicated. Geopolitics can be really complicated.&#8221;

Expanding on his warning, Jones continued, &#8220;If he walks out there and a week later he&#8217;s lower in the polls, it&#8217;s panic in the party.&#8221;
Heading into the debate, which <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rfk-jr-fails-to-qualify-for-cnn-presidential-debate?topStoryPosition=2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN is holding next Thursday</a> evening, <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/latest-polls/president/general-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">polls show</a> a competitive race between Biden and Trump.
Jones, who served as an environmental adviser to former President Barack Obama, also shared his view on what happens if Biden excels in his debate appearance.
&#8220;If he goes in there and he can handle himself against Donald Trump, a runaway train, a locomotive, a raging bull, then this guy deserves another shot to be president, because that is tough,&#8221; he said.

&#8220;You couldn&#8217;t do it. I couldn&#8217;t do it,&#8221; he added. &#8220;If you can stand toe-to-toe with a runaway train like Donald Trump for an hour-and-a-half, you are fit to be president, period, point blank.&#8221;
Jones concluded, &#8220;This is the whole presidency in a bottle in a week.&#8221;
CNN commentator and former Trump White House lawyer Jim Schultz then gave his take on what a bad performance by Trump could mean for the former president.
Trump &#8220;needs to have a good night. He has to have a good night on the policy issues,&#8221; Schultz said.
&#8220;He needs, to the extent he can, stay out of the gutter as much as he can, because, look, the issues are on his side,&#8221; Schultz went on. &#8220;He has the momentum now.&#8221;
The race is Trump&#8217;s &#8220;to lose at this point in many ways,&#8221; Schultz said, adding that Jones &#8220;just about admitted that here, that the momentum is in his favor.&#8221;
&#8220;President Biden is going to have to do something dramatic to convince people that he has the mental acuity to last four more years in that office and lead this country,&#8221; he concluded.
