Stand-up comedian Jay Leno said his ticket sales have significantly increased since he dropped politics from his routine.
The former host of NBC&#8217;s “The Tonight Show” made the revelation during a recent appearance on “Today.”
“I’m on the road a lot. I just took politics out of it, completely. I know ticket sales are up 20, 30 percent, just because nobody wants to be lectured,” Leno told host Hoda Kotb.

He noted that touring required visiting states with more conservative voting records, which encouraged him to keep his material politically neutral — a contrast to the overtly partisan approach embraced by many current late-night hosts who came after him.
“When you’re on TV and you can play directly to your audience and there’s a laugh track. When you go to Indiana or Kentucky or any other place in the country, you’re always going to have a third of the people who don’t agree with you politically. So why even go there?” he added.
Kotb asked if comedy was “tricky” now that the temperature seems to have turned up, which Leno refuted.

“I don’t think it’s any trickier than any other [time]… No. You know, we’ve always had tough times,” the 75-year-old comedian replied. “It’s not that it’s better now … But stuff that used to be the law is now against the law… and that’s great.”
Leno also said he had high hopes for the future of comedy. “Yes, I’m very hopeful. I am optimistic,” he said. “‘Cause ultimately, it’s a bit like a donkey — sometimes you gotta hit it in the head with a two-by-four to get its attention, but eventually it will listen.”
This was similar to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jay-leno-called-the-2024-election-a-great-day-for-democracy">comments</a> the former late-night host made in January. At the time, he told Piers Morgan, “I just stopped doing politics in my act altogether. You know, when I did ‘The Tonight Show,’ the idea was you made fun of both sides equally … they’d both be angry. And I’d go, ‘Oh, that’s good.’ You know, they both think you’re supporting the other guy.” 
Leno added, “Now, you’ve gotta take a side and people are angry if you don’t.”

Actor James Van Der Beek announced that he’s selling off memorabilia from some of his best-known entertainment projects to help pay for his medical bills.
The 48-year-old father of six was diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal cancer last year. Van Der Beek said in a <a href="https://people.com/james-van-der-beek-auctions-dawsons-creek-varsity-blues-memorabilia-exclusive-11847179">statement</a> to People that he’s teaming up with Propstore to offer pieces from his collection during the company’s Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction running December 5-7.
Items up for grabs include props from the popular teen drama “Dawson’s Creek,” such as the necklace Dawson (Van Der Beek) gave Joey (Katie Holmes) for prom, which the outlet noted is estimated to go for as much as $52,800. The outfit Van Der Beek wore in the pilot episode is expected to nab close to $4,000.
There will also be items from the popular teen sports drama “Varsity Blues” (1999), such as the cleats and West Canaan Coyotes hat that Van Der Beek wore while portraying Jonathan “Mox” Moxon.
“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” Van Der Beek told People.
He added, “While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”
The outlet noted that 100% of the proceeds would go toward helping fund the actor’s cancer treatments.
In September, Van Der Beek was forced to drop out of a “Dawson’s Creek” reunion event at the last minute due to a stomach illness. 
“I have been looking forward to this night for months and months ever since my angel Michelle Williams said she was putting it together,” the “Dawson’s Creek” alum said in the recorded message at the time, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/james-van-der-beek-sends-video-message-to-dawsons-creek-reunion-after-illness-knocks-him-out">reported</a>. “I can’t believe I’m not there. I can’t believe I don’t get to see my castmates, my beautiful cast, in person.”

The BBC is in dire straits. 
The BBC is a state-funded enterprise in much the same way that NPR is a state-funded enterprise. The BBC has been the dominant broadcast platform in the United Kingdom for decades, going all the way back to World War II.
For the last several decades, they have just been a left-wing agitprop organization. But now they are absolutely falling apart thanks to their extraordinarily dishonest attacks on President Trump.

<blockquote>President Trump has threatened to file a $ 1 billion lawsuit against the BBC over the way the U.K. state broadcaster edited one of his speeches in a documentary last year. BBC Chairman Samir Shah apologized Monday for the controversy, which has plunged the broadcaster into crisis. The apology came a day after BBC Director-General Tim Davie and BBC News Chief Executive Deborah Turness said they were leaving the organization following criticism from the White House. </blockquote>
What happened? There was an episode from the BBC’s flagship investigative series called Panorama, which ran one week before the 2024 United States election.
You may ask, did that affect the election? It doesn&#8217;t matter. The job of the BBC is to cover the news, not make the news up. 
One week before the election, they ran a piece in which they spliced together things that President Trump said on January 6, 2021, to make it look as though he himself personally was leading an armed insurrection at the Capitol building.
That was not true.
In order to achieve this effect, they had to cut out 24 pages of material. They cut from one part of the speech, and then they fast-forwarded 50 minutes and cut together the last part of the speech to clip them together, and then basically put in ellipses in order to make it seem as though President Trump himself was personally calling on people to follow him to the Capitol building and to assault the Capitol building.
If you watch that original clip, they had a music bed underneath, which connected the first part of the statement to the last part of the statement. It is not as though they had some sort of interpolation from a narrator explaining that much later in the speech, President Trump made the second part of the statement.

The Journal continued:
<blockquote>According to a letter from Trump’s lawyers, the BBC faces a legal claim for at least $1 billion unless the documentary is retracted, an apology published and compensation paid to the president. The letter set a deadline of Friday. The broadcaster said in a statement that it would “respond in due course.”</blockquote>
This follows hard on a <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/06/read-devastating-internal-bbc-memo-in-full/">19-page memo</a> that was put out by a top staffer at the BBC named Michael Prescott. He was an independent adviser to the BBC&#8217;s Editorial Guidelines and Standards Board, and he wrote a 19-page memo pushing the idea that the BBC had become a biased and ridiculous organization. He wrote: 
<blockquote>Dear Board Members,
You may know that I have been one of the two independent external advisers working alongside the EGSC. I held this role for three years and stood down in the summer.
I departed with profound and unresolved concerns about the BBC. Since leaving, I have thought long and hard about what, if anything, to do about this.
My conclusion is that these concerns are serious enough for me to draw them to your attention, in your oversight role of the BBC.
What follows is a summary of what were, in my view, some of the most troubling matters to come before the EGSC during my term.
My view is that the Executive repeatedly failed to implement measures to resolve highlighted problems, and in many cases simply refused to acknowledge there was an issue at all. </blockquote>
Prescott pointed out that there was tremendous bias with regard to the U.S. election. He specifically pointed out that edit in the Panorama program. He said, “This was one of the most shocking sets of issues uncovered during my time with the EGSC. If BBC journalists are to be allowed to edit video in order to make people ‘say’ things they never actually said, then what value are the Corporation’s guidelines, why should the BBC be trusted, and where will this all end?&#8221; 
And yet top members of the staff said, “There was no attempt to mislead the audience about the content or nature of Mr. Trump’s speech before the riot at the Capitol. It’s normal practice to edit speeches into short form clips.”
These kinds of shenanigans occurred repeatedly. They did this with comments that President Trump made about Liz Cheney. There are reports in which the BBC routinely ignored its own guidelines, giving excessive coverage, for example, to that rogue Iowa poll that suggested that Kamala Harris was going to win the state by a substantial margin. Of course, President Trump won the state pretty easily.
“During my time as an advisor to the EGSC it became clear the BBC fell too easily for putting out ill-researched material that suggested issues of racism when there were none,” Prescott wrote. Then he listed chapter and verse across the BBC in which they basically manufactured a bunch of racial issues where no racial issue existed.
They went out of their way to promote idiocies about biological sex and gender. Prescott noted:
<blockquote>I was told that time and time again the LGBTQ desk staffers would decline to cover any story raising difficult questions about the trans-debate. The allegation made to me was stark: that the desk had been captured by a small group of people promoting the Stonewall view of the debate and keeping other perspectives off-air. Individual programmes had come to lack their own reporters as a counterweight. &#8230;

One example of this might be a report that happened in 2024 from the BBC, in which they reported that male breast milk was just as nutritious for babies as female breast milk. You may be asking yourself, what is male breast milk? The answer is that if you pump men full of estrogen, you will get some secretions from the nipples that are not actually like female breast milk.
But the BBC had an interest in pretending that males can become females. And so <a href="https://x.com/millihill/status/1987836199969382892">they ran with this report</a>.
This is what the BBC is. It’s true on a wide variety of issues.
It&#8217;s particularly true about the Hamas-Israel war. According to the UK Telegraph, the BBC was forced to correct two stories every single week about the Gaza conflict since the October 7 attacks on Israel.
That’s insane. How many stories can you retract before you finally lose all credibility? BBC Arabic had to make 215 corrections and clarifications over the past two years on stories that were found to be biased, inaccurate, or misleading.
The BBC despises Israel, and it’s not possible for them to make it any clearer. For example, in November 2023, BBC editor Jeremy Bowen falsely reported that Israel had blown up the Al Ahli Hospital in the Gaza Strip.
That wasn’t true. He later <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/bbc-jeremy-bowen-admits-got-194844026.html">admitted he got it wrong</a>, but said he didn’t feel bad at all that he got it wrong, saying, “I don&#8217;t regret one thing in my reporting, because I think, I think I was measured throughout. I didn&#8217;t race to judgment.” 
Interviewer: “But you said that the building had been flattened.”
Bowen replied, “Oh, yeah. Well, I got that wrong because I was looking at the pictures and like, what I could see was a square that appeared to be flaming on all sides. And there was a, you know, sort of a void in the middle. And it was, I think it was a picture taken from a drone. And so, you know, we have to piece together what we see. And I thought, ‘Well, that looks like the whole building&#8217;s gone.’ And that was my conclusion from looking at the pictures. And I was wrong on that. But I don&#8217;t feel too bad about that.”
It doesn&#8217;t feel bad at all, because this is the way the BBC operates. They start with the conclusion, and then they backfill the news in order to reach that particular conclusion.
So, is it any surprise that the BBC is a disaster area or that they&#8217;re in serious trouble now?
It is long past time for the BBC to admit what it is, which is an agitprop organization on behalf of the political Left. They have been for decades. Nothing has changed.
And this latest brouhaha is just more evidence that the government should not be subsidizing media organizations such as NPR, PBS, or the BBC in Britain, because you wind up with left-wing media sponsored by taxpayers.

Late-night host Stephen Colbert just admitted that shows like his are meant to instruct viewers on how to think.
The host of “The Late Show” was attempting to defend the existence of the late-night genre during a recent <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/stephen-colbert-gq-cover-story-interview-men-of-the-year-2025">interview</a> with GQ.
While speaking on the topic, Colbert said, “Well, we are like your friend who at the end of the day paid attention to what happened today more than you did. And then we curate that back to you at the end of the day.”
“But it’s really more about how we feel about—or I, as the person who is the vehicle for that—how we felt about today. All those things that might’ve made you confused, angry, or anxious or happy or surprised or something like that,” Colbert added. “I share those feelings with the audience and they laugh or they don’t laugh. And there’s a sense of community there.”
The host claimed that “these late-night shows are for millions of Americans a third space to come together and think about the day.”
Social media commenters couldn’t help but notice that Colbert was basically admitting to influencing his audience into certain reactions.

“Amazing admission. Basically late night TV is [propaganda.] They&#8217;ll tell you what to think,” one X user <a href="https://x.com/TheChiefNerd/status/1986765425246441743">marveled</a>.
“He said the quiet part out loud,” another person <a href="https://x.com/TheChiefNerd/status/1986767863701524575">wrote</a>.
“Hence his decline into irrelevance. Anyone taking guidance from this narcissist needs to seek immediate help,” a third person <a href="https://x.com/HawkeyePilot/status/1986774581751730592">chimed in</a>.
CBS announced in July that it was canceling “The Late Show” after the upcoming season, which inspired outsized reactions from the Left. The network described the move as a “purely financial decision.” A report stated that the program was losing $40 million annually.
Colbert went off on an expletive-laced tirade during his first monologue following the announcement, blasting President Donald Trump and CBS. Colbert mentioned how the network’s parent company, Paramount Global, paid Trump a $16 million settlement after being accused of election interference.
Other late-night mainstays such as Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon came to Colbert’s defense, saying the reports claiming that “The Late Show” was losing tens of millions were “nonsensical.”

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney, said she’s at odds with her relatives who support President Trump.
The 47-year-old executive producer and co-head writer of the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” show made the revelation during a recent episode of the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast. 
“What is it like to come from a conservative family and become like, the Mockingjay of the other side?” podcast co-host Glennon Doyle asked. 
“It&#8217;s definitely been challenging,” McNearney replied. She recalled growing up in a “very conservative, Republican” environment and then becoming liberal after moving away from home. The TV producer said she wasn’t happy about Trump being elected in 2016, but said she understood it.
She said the 2024 election was different, though.
“It hurts me so much because of the personal relationship I now have where my husband is out there fighting this man,” McNearney added.
“And to me, them voting for Trump is them not voting for my husband and me and our family,” she continued, saying she has “lost relationships with people in my family because of it.”
“This is not just Republican versus Democrat for me anymore,” she added. “It is, to me, it&#8217;s family values, and it&#8217;s really hard for me because I grew up believing in these Christian ideals of taking care of the sick and taking care of the poor, and I don&#8217;t see that happening with this Republican party.”

“I feel like I&#8217;m kind of in constant conflict and I&#8217;m angry all the time, which isn&#8217;t healthy at all,” the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” exec continued. “But I personalize everything now. When I see these terrible stories every day, I&#8217;m immediately mad at certain aunts, uncles, cousins who put him in power. And it&#8217;s really hard.”
“I&#8217;ve sent many emails to family, like right before the election, saying, ‘I&#8217;m begging you. Here&#8217;s the 10 reasons not to vote for this guy. Please don&#8217;t.’ And I either got ignored by 90% of them or got truly insane responses from a few. It&#8217;s definitely caused a strain,&#8221; McNearney said.
“I&#8217;ve definitely pulled in closer with the family that I feel more aligned with. And I hate that this has happened, you know? It feels silly. You know, part of me goes, ‘Don&#8217;t let politics get in the way.’ But to me, this isn&#8217;t politics. It&#8217;s truly values,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And we just were not aligned anymore.&#8221;

“London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has released research, which says that nearly 600 heat-related deaths are expected in the U.K.,” Croxall said during the broadcast in question.
“Malcolm Mistry, who was involved in the research, says that the aged, pregnant people… women,” she went on after a pause, “and those with pre-existing health conditions need to take precautions.”

BBC News reps initially defended Croxall’s delivery, saying her reaction was because of “scripting which somewhat clumsily incorporated phrases from the press release accompanying the research.”
But now that’s changed. The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3epwz08ewzo">announced</a> Thursday that Croxall had indeed violated its prescribed editorial standards of impartiality.
“The phrase ‘pregnant people’ was followed by a facial expression which has been variously interpreted by complainants as showing disgust, ridicule, contempt or exasperation,” the news release from the ECU <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/ecu/news-1230pm-news-channel-21-june-2025">said</a>.
“…The ECU considered the facial expression which accompanied the change of ‘people’ to ‘women’ laid it open to the interpretation that it indicated a particular viewpoint in the controversies currently surrounding trans identity, and the congratulatory messages Ms. Croxall later received on social media, together with the critical views expressed in the complaints to the BBC and elsewhere, tended to confirm that the impression of her having expressed a personal view was widely shared across the spectrum of opinion on the issue,” it said.
While the statement did not detail any punishments Croxall will receive for her actions, social media has been congratulating her for taking a stand for team sanity ever since the incident occurred.
Piers Morgan said, “The BBC expects a female presenter to use the words ‘pregnant people’ about pregnant WOMEN, and then reprimands her when she rolls her eyes?! Pathetic.”
“She should have her own news channel,” one commenter <a href="https://x.com/WilshawSheana/status/1986771953470804012">suggested</a>.
“I loved that. It was so well done. Such a small thing, but it was a powerful reality check. She deserves a raise and a promotion,” another <a href="https://x.com/Nobody78787878/status/1986660817631130006">said</a>. “The Emperor’s New Clothes have hereby been exposed to the world.”

The activist group GLAAD is sounding the alarm that LGBT character representation on television will drop by more than 40% next season.
The organization’s “Where We Are On TV” <a href="https://glaad.org/whereweareontv24/">report</a> showed that, despite the number of LGBT characters increasing last season to 489, 41% of those characters will not return due to series cancellations or endings, limited series appearances, or being killed off. 
“There is a definite concern that it’s not going to bounce back next year and see a growth just in terms of what’s been announced up to this moment,” GLAAD rep Megan Townsend <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/glaad-where-we-are-on-tv-2024-2025-report-findings/">told</a> TheWrap. “We have not had a ton of announcements or news about new series and returning series within the research period that would make up for some of these losses.”
Townsend also <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/glaad-study-gay-characters-on-television-where-we-are-on-tv-1236415828/">insisted</a> that “inclusive stories resonate with audiences and drive business success” and that “over 84 million American adults say they’re more likely to watch a TV show if it features at least one LGBTQ character.”
Sarah Kate Ellis, CEO and President of GLAAD, was also unhappy with the findings.
“Nearly a third of non-LGBTQ+ Americans say that LGBTQ+-inclusive media has changed their perception of our community,” she said. 
“Today, we are at a critical juncture, with hateful rhetoric running unchecked from politicians and news media and given a falsely amplified platform, even as the majority of this country overwhelmingly supports the LGBTQ+ community. With so many diverse, entertaining and impactful series being canceled at an alarming rate, it is imperative that networks and streamers do not back down.”
While the activists panicked, many social media commenters agreed that the LGBT characters being written off was merely a reflection of what viewers wanted.
“Call me crazy but that&#8217;s the free market. If demand isn&#8217;t there, characters and shows will be canceled,” one X user <a href="https://x.com/adamtoo__/status/1986620655903625336">said</a>. 
“If you don’t make money, you get canned,” another commenter <a href="https://x.com/knockhead/status/1986785036079661329">agreed</a>. “Not rocket science.”

Cheryl Hines is calling out the hosts of “The View” for using her entire time on the show to ask about her husband, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., rather than to discuss her life or ask about her book.
The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress shared her thoughts during a Tuesday episode of Billy Bush’s “Hot Mics” podcast.

Hines had initially joined the host of “The View” to promote her memoir, “Cheryl Hines Unscripted,” but host Sunny Hostin used the time to criticize comments RFK Jr. made and policies he promoted.
“Respectfully, your husband is the least qualified Department of Health and Human Services head that we’ve had in history. I think that’s very, very dangerous,” Hostin opened with. 
“Why is he less qualified than an economist? How is that possible?” Hines replied, referencing former President Barack Obama’s choice for the position, economist Sylvia Burwell.

“Some of it’s good and some of it is not. That’s the point,” Joy Behar interrupted.
“Listen, we all have different views here. Yes. And when you say misinformation, disinformation, we could go back to COVID when —” Hines said. 
“He’s connecting circumcision to autism,” Hostin interrupted.
“May I finish?” Hines asked.
“Please,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg chimed in.
“When people, Fauci, people were saying when you get the vaccine, you cannot transmit COVID, it will stop COVID. And that was disinformation, misinformation,” Hines reminded the panelists.
At the end of the interview, Goldberg said it was important to have guests with different viewpoints and invited Hines to come back. 
“We don’t often get people on this show who we can ask these questions to, and I appreciate that you came on,” Goldberg said. “Because you know what, if we can have the discussion back and forth, it then becomes people’s — then they can decide what they believe, and they don’t just hear one side.”

ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is getting dragged for once again featuring a drag queen reading a book by a conservative author to young children.
Kimmel invited back “RuPaul’s Drag Race” contestant Trixie Mattel, whose legal name is Brian Firkus, to read from Eric Trump’s new memoir “Under Siege: My Family&#8217;s Fight to Save Our Nation” for the bit, which aired last week.
Kimmel mentioned the reviews for the newly published book during his opening monologue.
&#8220;There&#8217;s one star and five star; there&#8217;s nothing in between, which is sad because it shows how divided this country is, and that&#8217;s not good for anyone,&#8221; Kimmel said. &#8220;So in order to build a bridge and to join hands through literature, we asked a prominent member of the Left to read Eric Trump&#8217;s book to young people so they could decide on their own what they think about it.&#8221;

&#8220;Would you like to read a book by President Trump?&#8221; the drag performer asked, prompting the kids to boo and say no. &#8220;Hold up. What about President Trump&#8217;s least favorite son?&#8221; Firkus asked.

During the exchange, the drag performer questioned a child about being potty trained before joking that Eric Trump wasn’t.
&#8220;Listen, we have to pay respect because this ghost writer worked really hard on this,&#8221; Firkus said before reading from the book. 
He only got through a few lines before one of the children said, &#8220;Okay, I&#8217;m going to stop you there. Instead of skipping this page, we should skip the entire book. No, instead, we should skip the entire storytime and just go straight to lunch because I&#8217;m pretty hungry right now.&#8221; The drag queen offered the child a Lunchable out of his trunk.
Firkus read more from the book, saying, &#8220;How is it that my father — who spent over four decades in the public eye — never once received a speeding ticket, triumphed in the 2016 campaign and became President of the United States and was suddenly charged with almost every crime imaginable, and many unimaginable in the aftermath?&#8221; 
One child claimed that it &#8220;doesn&#8217;t make any sense.&#8221; After asking the children for their opinions, one said, &#8220;I would kick him in the [censored].&#8221;
The drag queen told the kids he wanted to show them a &#8220;special science experiment&#8221; before taking them outside to stand in front of a wood chipper.
&#8220;This might not be a great book, but it&#8217;s going to make excellent confetti,&#8221; he said, throwing Eric&#8217;s memoir into the chipper as the kids cheered. &#8220;Alright, let&#8217;s go to happy hour,&#8221; he said at the end of the bit. “I have a drink ticket.”
There were many reactions to the unfunny bit on X.

The Pentagon has come out against a new Netflix series aimed at promoting LGBT themes. “Boots,” based on a memoir titled &#8220;The Pink Marine,&#8221; is <a href="https://www.netflix.com/title/81427990">about</a> a gay “bullied teen” who “impulsively” joins the U.S. Marine Corps and “finds new purpose — and unexpected brotherhood — with his motley team of fellow recruits.”
Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson released a statement on the series, saying a person’s sexuality is not relevant in this administration’s effort to strengthen our military.
&#8220;Under President Trump and Secretary [Pete] Hegseth, the U.S. military is getting back to restoring the warrior ethos.
