The Southern Poverty Law Center labeled Moms For Liberty a hate group just days before its national conference, causing protests to descend on the event and inundate attendees with threats of violence.
Over 600 parents, conservative leaders, and five presidential candidates — including Donald Trump — gathered for four days at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott Hotel for the <a href="https://portal.momsforliberty.org/summit23/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Moms for Liberty</a> National Summit 2023. Just three weeks before, the SPLC added the grassroots parents&#8217; group to its list of extremist groups. Tina Descovich, co-founder and CEO of Moms For Liberty, told The Daily Wire that the pushback was almost immediate — and frightening.
“Their label sent thousands of protesters to our event, protestors smashed in windows of the venue the night before, and spray-painted over historical displays,&#8221; Descovich said. &#8220;They surrounded the venue for days. Philly PD had to call in the riot force and extra equipment. The following months and weeks were filled with continued threats and harassment.&#8221;
“Adding us right before our 2023 National Summit, where we hosted five presidential candidates, was not an accident; it was calculated and coordinated,” Descovich added.
The SPLC has come under renewed scrutiny after the Justice Department last week released a sweeping indictment of the controversial leftist group. The SPLC is alleged to have funneled millions to hate groups like the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-hints-at-major-2020-move-if-splc-found-guilty-of-fraud?row=0&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;rowType=Web+Search+Overlay" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ku Klux Klan</a> from 2014 to 2023. The group claims it was paying informants, but critics say the SPLC was simply propping up its own targets — most notoriously by allegedly helping fund the infamous 2017 &#8220;Unite The Right&#8221; rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
&#8220;Once the SPLC labeled us, it gave people in my community and even extended family justification for really vile behavior towards me. I tried to protect my kids from the hate I received, but it wasn’t long before even they knew I was a target for people’s hate,&#8221; Kit Hart, Moms For Liberty membership engagement coordinator, told The Daily Wire. &#8220;It’s something no innocent mom should be subjected to.&#8221;
&#8220;A group of us had dinner reservations offsite and the moment we exited the building, we were berated and screamed at,&#8221; Hart recalls. &#8220;The protestors had been waiting all day for members of our organization to leave the doors of the hotel to shove signs in our faces, curse at us and show every sign of aggression you can think of. As we were walking to our Uber, we needed to be escorted by security.&#8221;
An LGBTQ+ group called The Agenda PAC obtained the hotel room numbers of Moms For Liberty members, and while they slept, left door hangers on their hotel rooms that said &#8220;Please Disturb: Fascism In Progress. Did you know a designated hate group is staying at this hotel?&#8221;
Pennsylvania State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta, who is currently a Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-election/new-political-group-forms-campaign-anti-lgbtq-candidates-rcna45710" target="_blank" rel="noopener">chaired</a> The Agenda PAC.
A heavy police presence was stationed outside the hotel for the duration of the conference to keep attendees safe. Protesters, carrying pride flags and signs with hateful messages such as &#8220;Ban The Fascists,&#8221; &#8220;F*ck Nazi&#8217;s,&#8221; and &#8220;<a href="https://whyy.org/articles/philadelphia-moms-for-liberty-summit-protest-photos/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Klanned Kookie Karens</a>,&#8221; camped outside the hotel for the duration of the conference and harassed women as they entered or exited. One group of moms was <a href="https://x.com/scarlett4kids/status/2048178067299017024?s=46&amp;t=ZAoIkqhiKpZyQayFV_2XbQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">swarmed</a> by a group of protesters when they tried to leave the hotel in an Uber. Several protesters were <a href="https://whyy.org/articles/philadelphia-moms-for-liberty-summit-people-arrested-during-protests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested.</a>
Despite the tensions and security concerns, the planned programming was uninterrupted, and President Trump commented on the SPLC label during his speech.
&#8220;The radical Left is even slandering Moms for Liberty as a so-called hate group,&#8221; President Trump stated during<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_D7iYcQACU" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> his speech</a>. &#8220;Can you imagine Moms for Liberty, a hate group? I&#8217;m telling you, these people are sick.&#8221;
The conference gained attention from national media outlets, which<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/29/us/politics/moms-for-liberty-republicans.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> consistently</a> associated Moms For Liberty with the <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/06/30/moms-for-liberty-convention-philadelphia-protests/70363926007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SPLC</a> hate group label. A group of Democratic Pennsylvania state senators used the SPLC label to fuel their <a href="https://epgn.com/2023/05/11/philadelphia-marriott-facing-criticism-for-hosting-right-wing-summit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ongoing campaign</a> to get the 2023 summit canceled. The politicians sent a <a href="https://x.com/SenatorSaval/status/1672011058834206721/photo/1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to the Museum of the American Revolution, where a welcome event for the summit was held, asking that it cut ties with Moms For Liberty.
“Moms for Liberty, put plainly, is a hate group. This is not hyperbole — on June 6, 2023, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) designated Moms for Liberty a hate group, and specifically, as an ‘anti-government extremist group,'&#8221; the letter reads. “The Museum’s leadership has demonstrated a lack of judgment in agreeing to host a hate group. Fortunately, the mistake can be fixed with a simple and elegant solution: cancel the Moms for Liberty event scheduled for June 29.”
This reporter was present at the June 2023 summit and can easily recall the throngs of protesters and increased security. To avoid harassment from the mob of protesters outside of the hotel, attendees exited the Marriott hotel from a discreet side entrance and were covertly bused to the museum, where we were greeted by a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XuDs2bbVJE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raucous crowd</a> screaming from behind a metal barricade, &#8220;Get the f*ck out of here&#8221; and &#8220;Philly is a trans city.&#8221; Police officers acted as a human shield and formed a path that allowed us a safe entrance to the museum.

The impact of the SPLC’s extremist label extended far past the summer of 2023 and continues to weigh on parents today. The SPLC has an interactive &#8220;<a href="https://www.splcenter.org/hate-map/?hm_year=2024">hate map</a>,&#8221; and Moms for Liberty chapters make up the single <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/splcs-favorite-conservative-targets-get-the-last-laugh">largest</a> bloc of any organization on it, putting a target on the back of each local group.
“Every day since the SPLC added Moms for Liberty to its hate map, our organization has had a dangerous target on our back. Members have been doxed, cancelled, and threatened,” Descovich told The Daily Wire. &#8220;The fabricated lies told by the SPLC have caused extensive harm to our organization and our members.&#8221;
For the past three years, Moms For Liberty Wisconsin leader Scarlett Johnson has also been harassed, defamed, and feared for her own safety after being labeled a far-right extremist by the SPLC.
“I lived this. I was harassed, doxxed, and even sued. And almost every article, every interview, every news segment about me included the same line — that I’m part of Moms for Liberty, a group the SPLC labeled as extremist,” Johnson told The Daily Wire. “That label followed me everywhere. It changed how people looked at me, spoke to me, and treated me.&#8221;
&#8220;It was the slow, grinding loss of normalcy that no one ever gives back,&#8221; she added.
Johnson said the SPLC label didn’t just draw the ire of leftists, but made some local Republicans hesitant to be affiliated with her and the group. Rachel Carroll Rivas, deputy director for research, reporting, and analysis at the SPLC, admitted that was the group&#8217;s goal in a June 2023 interview with <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/06/07/1180486760/splc-moms-for-liberty-extremist-group" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NPR</a>.
“Carroll Rivas said she hopes that adding Moms for Liberty and similar groups to its extremist list will help inform communities, reporters and politicians who are just learning about them,&#8221; NPR reported. &#8220;And, perhaps, that it might tarnish association with those organizations.&#8221;
Johnson told The Daily Wire she is thankful SPLC is being investigated, but the reputational damage they’ve caused can&#8217;t be undone.
“Not everyone understands what the SPLC is or how those labels get used — but politicians and media repeated it without question,” Johnson told The Daily Wire. “And when you repeat something like that over and over, it doesn’t just shape a narrative. It hardens into something people act on.”
The SPLC did not respond to The Daily Wire&#8217;s request for comment.

A Secret Service agent was injured Friday morning after negligently discharging his firearm and shooting himself in the leg while escorting former first lady Jill Biden through the Philadelphia International Airport, the agency told The Daily Wire.
The agent fired the weapon just after 8:30 a.m. while on a protective assignment. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. No one else was injured.
&#8220;The Secret Service’s Office of Professional Responsibility will be reviewing the facts and circumstances of this incident. We are grateful for our law enforcement and public safety partners who provided medical assistance,&#8221; the Secret Service said.
After the shooting, a large police presence was reported in Terminal C of the airport, according to CBS affiliate <a href="https://www.audacy.com/kywnewsradio/news/local/secret-service-shooting-jill-biden-phl">KYW-TV</a>. A medic unit responded to the scene and then left the area, followed by a Philadelphia police car.
The Secret Service has faced intense scrutiny from the public and from Congress after the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt on President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, which was one of the agency&#8217;s most serious security failures in modern history.
Last year, more <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/whats-going-on-with-the-secret-service-recent-mishaps-put-trumps-protectors-under-the-microscope" target="_blank" rel="noopener">scandals</a> hit the Secret Service after a uniformed division officer allegedly fell asleep while on duty at the United Nations General Assembly, and an armed individual bypassed security screening at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.

Leftist Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is threatening to arrest federal immigration agents helping at airports during the partial government shutdown.
Krasner made the remarks during a Tuesday press conference at the Philadelphia International Airport, one of roughly a dozen airports where the Trump administration has deployed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to offset Transportation Security Administration staffing shortages.
&#8220;You commit crimes within the jurisdiction that is the city and county of Philadelphia, I prosecute you. That is how it works,&#8221; Krasner said. &#8220;No, I don&#8217;t take a phone call from the president saying &#8216;Let him go.&#8217; No, the president cannot pardon you. I&#8217;ll say it again, the president cannot pardon you. And yes, I will put you in handcuffs, and I will put you in a courtroom, and if necessary I will put you in a jail cell.&#8221;
Krasner also warned against excessive force, citing recent controversies involving federal agents in Minnesota.
&#8220;If you decide to make the terrazzo floor of this airport anything like what you did in the streets of Minneapolis, which involved the criminal homicide of unarmed innocent people, we are not having that here,&#8221; Krasner said. &#8220;To any agent who might think about doing it an illegal way, I&#8217;ll be seeing you in court, and you&#8217;re not gonna like it.&#8221;
The comments come as ICE agents have been deployed to assist with airport operations during the ongoing DHS shutdown, which has strained TSA staff.
During a House Homeland Security Committee hearing Wednesday, TSA Acting Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill said the additional ICE personnel have provided relief at the airports experiencing long lines.
&#8220;The ICE agents that are there are doing non-specialized screening functions, it&#8217;s been incredibly helpful to alleviate the burden on our workforce and we&#8217;re getting positive feedback from passengers and our field leadership alike,&#8221; McNeill said.
With no end to the shutdown in sight, travelers are forced to wait hours in lines to reach a TSA screening point at some airports. More than 3,450 TSA officers, who account for roughly 11.76% of the workforce, called out on Sunday, <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/travel/precheck-clear-airport-wait-times/#:~:text=TSA%20staffing%20shortages%20hit%20major,an%20impasse%20over%20DHS%20funding." target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to NewsNation. Since the shutdown began in mid-February, more than 450 TSA officers have quit.
At Houston&#8217;s George Bush International Airport, where wait times hovered around four hours Tuesday, ICE officers distributed water, assisted travelers, and helped maintain order in long lines, The Daily Wire observed.
Some passengers took the time to thank the officers and shake their hands as they waited.

An infamous Pennsylvania abortionist convicted of murder for killing babies born alive during illegal late-term procedures has died while serving multiple life sentences in prison, state officials said Monday. 
Kermit Gosnell, 85, died March 1 after being transported from the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon to a hospital. He had been serving multiple life sentences following his 2013 conviction on three counts of first-degree murder. His West Philadelphia abortion facility was dubbed the “House of Horrors.” 
The Gosnell case drew national attention after pro-life advocates highlighted the brutal nature of his abortion practice. Many of the gruesome details came out during his 2013 trial and through a grand jury <a href="https://cdn.cnsnews.com/documents/Gosnell%2C%20Grand%20Jury%20Report.pdf">report</a>. 
“This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women,&#8221; the Pennsylvania grand jury report said. &#8220;He regularly and illegally delivered live, viable babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors.” 
Testimony during the trial described the practice in detail. Steven Massof, one of Gosnell&#8217;s former employees, explained the process. “We call it a transection, but it’s literally a beheading,” he testified. 
Massof estimated that around 100 babies had their spinal cords snipped. He said he “felt like a fireman in hell. I couldn’t put out all the fires. … I would run around with scissors.”
The grand jury report documented one case involving a 17-year-old whose baby was delivered at around 30 weeks. According to the report, the infant was &#8220;breathing and moving&#8221; before being killed.
“He was breathing and moving when Dr. Gosnell severed his spine and put the body in a plastic shoebox for disposal. The doctor joked that this baby was so big he could ‘walk me to the bus stop,’” it said. 
Gosnell denied that any infants were born alive, claiming that movements observed by staff were involuntary.
During the trial, jury members were shown pictures of unborn babies who had been killed by Gosnell, showing how their skulls had been crushed and spinal cords cut. 
Other workers stated that Gosnell stored baby parts in jars in a refrigerator and routinely did abortions past 24 weeks of gestation. “The bigger the baby, the more he charged,” the grand jury report stated. 
The investigation further found that Gosnell&#8217;s clinic operated in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The grand jury described blood-stained furniture, improperly sterilized instruments, and the storage of fetal remains throughout the facility.
“It was a baby charnel house,” the grand jury said.
Gosnell was also convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a woman who died in his facility during an abortion. 
Additionally, he <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-edpa/pr/philadelphia-doctor-pleads-guilty-running-pill-mill">pled guilty</a> to federal charges related to running a pill mill out of his facility and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, including oxycodone, alprazolam, and codeine.

In an incendiary address during a rally on Tuesday, far-left Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner escalated his rhetoric against federal immigration enforcement, comparing ICE agents to &#8220;wannabe Nazis.&#8221;
Krasner issued a stark warning to federal officers, promising that a coalition of state prosecutors would work to identify and prosecute them for actions he deemed lawless.
&#8220;If we have to hunt you down the way they hunted down Nazis for decades, we will find your identities; we will find you; we will achieve justice &#8230;  under the Constitution and the laws of the United States,&#8221; Krasner declared. He emphasized that being a federal officer does not grant immunity from homicide charges and vowed that accountability would continue even after the current administration leaves office. Krasner specifically noted that he is collaborating with other progressive prosecutors, such as Minneapolis’s Mary Moriarty, to ensure federal agents face state-level consequences for their actions.
In November 2022, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted 107-85 to impeach Krasner, alleging &#8220;purposeful ineffectiveness&#8221; and mismanagement of his office that compromised public safety. Republican leaders argued that Krasner’s progressive reforms — including the elimination of cash bail for certain offenses and reduced prosecutions — created an environment of fear in Philadelphia.
Upon taking office in 2018, Krasner fired dozens of veteran prosecutors, replacing them with less experienced staff. Under his tenure, Philadelphia saw a dramatic surge in violence, with homicides peaking at a record 562 in 2021. While violent crime dropped to a 20-year low in 2024, the intermediate spike led to significant business closures, including multiple Wawa and Starbucks locations, as retailers cited safety concerns and retail theft.
Despite the impeachment efforts, Krasner remains a prominent figure in the &#8220;national populist&#8221; legal movement. He was elected with significant financial backing from billionaire George Soros, who has defended progressive DAs against claims that their policies drive crime spikes. Krasner has dismissed the impeachment efforts as an &#8220;authoritarian&#8221; attempt to disenfranchise &#8220;Black, brown, and broke&#8221; voters, framing the legislative push as a politically motivated attack on his mandate.

Bilal tore into ICE a day earlier, claiming that federal agents were the ones committing crimes when they moved to enforce federal immigration law.
&#8220;Those that come into our communities wearing masks to commit crime—and thank God for our District Attorney Larry Krasner, who says he&#8217;s gonna lock them up &#8230; you&#8217;re getting arrested &#8230; we stand here today with all those who stand against the made-up fake, what you can call ICE,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Professional law enforcement? I&#8217;m not calling none of that. I call them made-up, fake wanna-be law enforcement. Because what they do is against not only legal law but moral law &#8230; you will not be able to hide. Nobody will whisk you off. You don&#8217;t want this smoke, because we&#8217;ll bring it to you. And the fake, whatever they call them because I can put &#8230; I can&#8217;t say their name. The Philadelphia Police Department also issued a statement in response to Bilal&#8217;s comments, saying that she was not in charge of municipal policing and that the city&#8217;s police officers would continue to work in conjunction with other &#8220;law enforcement partners&#8221; moving forward.

ICE Chief Dares Philly Sheriff To Follow Through On Threat To Arrest Immigration Agents: ‘Try It’

Eight members of a Philadelphia youth football team, the United Thoroughbreds, were <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15367101/Philadelphia-teens-theft-football-championship-game-Florida-Dicks-Sporting-Goods.html%5d">arrested</a> in Polk County, Florida, after allegedly stealing merchandise from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store while in town for the Prolifix Sportz National Championship.
The teens, all ages 14–15, had traveled from Philadelphia to Davenport for the title game against the Coco Tigers. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the group Ubered to the store on the morning of December 6 and carried out a “systematic” theft involving 47 items valued at more than $2,200.
Sheriff Grady Judd said the teens split into two groups: one boy bought a single item to obtain a Dick’s shopping bag, while the others selected items to steal. The buyer then met the rest of the group inside, and they filled the bag with stolen merchandise, including hoodies, gloves, and football accessories.
Store staff watched the alleged thefts unfold in real time on surveillance cameras and notified law enforcement. Judd emphasized that “you can’t go anyplace that you’re not on camera,” noting that the group appeared to believe they were getting away with it.
When deputies detained the teens, their coach, Raekwon (Raynone) Bynes, 29, arrived at the store and reportedly pleaded with officers not to arrest them. He then attempted to persuade the store manager not to press charges.
According to Judd, the coach dismissed the seriousness of the alleged crime and asked deputies, “Don’t you have anything better to do?” The sheriff criticized Bynes for failing to hold the teens accountable and for allowing them to leave their lodging unsupervised. Parents were contacted following the arrests.
“I don&#8217;t know if these all were starters or not,” Judd commented. “But I can tell you that we were finishers. We arrested them. We took them to the Juvenile Assessment Center. And we put them in lockup.” 
“I don&#8217;t know how you do things in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,” he remarked. “But in Polk County, Florida, we lock you up for stealing for being a thief. &#8230; We didn&#8217;t choose to arrest you. You chose to be arrested. And that&#8217;s the way it is.”
“And for the coach, you&#8217;re way off base here, buddy,” he declared. “Way off base. You&#8217;re the ultimate loser. If you&#8217;d been coaching these kids upright, if you knew where they were, if you didn&#8217;t allow them to Uber away, they would have played in a ball game Saturday night.”
All eight teens were charged with felony retail theft (over $750) and conspiracy to commit retail theft, then transported to a juvenile detention facility. Though later released, they will be required to return to Florida to face the charges. Authorities said none of the juveniles had prior records.
Judd publicly identified the suspects during a press conference, adding that their actions likely cost the Thoroughbreds their championship opportunity. With eight players jailed, the team lost the title game 26–6 to the undefeated Coco Tigers. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also commented, saying the group had “picked the wrong state — and the wrong county.”

Police responded to an active shooter situation at Villanova University on Thursday afternoon, as new students were moving into their dorms at the private Catholic research university west of Philadelphia. Villanova President Rev. Peter M. Donohue said that the reported shooting was a &#8220;cruel hoax,&#8221; adding that no one was injured, NBC 10 Philadelphia <a href="https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/villanova-students-warned-of-active-shooter-on-campus/4257685/">reported</a>.
At around 4:30 p.m. ET, while many students and parents were attending mass, an alert went out from Villanova instructing everyone to shelter in place and stay away from the Law School&#8217;s Scarpa Hall. A video posted on X showed a representative for Villanova telling a group of people who had taken shelter that the active shooter situation was &#8220;supposedly in the library at the law school.&#8221;

Ashley Biden, daughter of former president Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years.
The 44-year-old former first daughter filed the documents in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, per <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/news/ashley-biden-divorce-howard-krein-20250811.html">The Philadelphia Inquirer</a>. Ashley married Dr. Howard Krein, a plastic surgeon, 13 years ago on June 2, 2012, while President Biden was serving as vice president under Barack Obama.
She and Krein lived in Philadelphia and had no children.
The outlet also noted that Ashley posted a photo of herself to her Instagram stories walking through a park while giving a thumbs up with the Beyoncé song &#8220;Freedom&#8221; playing in the background.
She also reportedly posted the quote, “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before,&#8221; to the social media site with Lauryn Hill’s “Freedom Time” playing as the featured song.
Ashley and Krein began dating in the summer of 2010 after meeting through Beau Biden, one of her older half-brothers who died from brain cancer in 2015.
Ashley and Krein were married at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, in Greenville, Delaware, and hosted a reception for 200 people at her family’s home.
As the activist and social worker <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/ashley-biden-files-divorce-2112172">recounted</a> at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, &#8220;I had my wedding reception in my parents&#8217; backyard. At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception. He was riding around in his John Deere 4-wheeler, fixing the place settings, arranging the plants, and by the way, he was very emotional.&#8221;
Besides speaking at the DNC, Ashley has remained mostly out of the spotlight during her father’s public career &#8211; but she did go viral in 2020 after pages from her private journal were published in the run-up to the presidential election. 
Pages from the first daughter’s diary, including one talking about being “hyper-sexualized” at a young age and “showers w/ my dad (probably not appropriate),” were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/snopes-changes-fact-check-rating-on-contents-of-ashley-bidens-diary-from-unproven-to-true">published</a> by a website called National File.
At the time, Ashley claimed that she was targeted because her father had been running for president, and the publicity the diary had drawn led her to be “constantly re-traumatized by it.”
She also said: “Repeatedly, I hear others grossly misinterpret my once-private writings and lob false accusations that defame my character and those of the people I love.”
This was far from the only drama in the Biden family. Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau, became romantically involved with Hunter Biden and said she was &#8220;ashamed&#8221; to have become addicted to crack in 2018 after Hunter introduced her to it.
“I found it [crack] and Googled it because I didn’t know what it was,” Hallie said during Hunter&#8217;s gun trial in 2024. “He told me what it was, crack cocaine.”
“It was a terrible experience I went through and I’m embarrassed and I’m ashamed,” Hallie said. &#8220;I regret that time of my life.”

A Philadelphia landlord is fighting to evict squatters who broke into her rental property and have been living there for over two months.
Naydia Smith tells The Daily Wire that a couple with five young children broke into the house in April or May, at which point they began trashing the home. She was first made aware of the squatters in June, when her business partner Richard Watson’s parents received an anonymous call about the intruders.
On June 7, Watson’s parents confronted and filmed a man in the house. The man — whose documents found in the house appear to identify him as Antonio Stewart — said he had rented the property and gained entrance through the back. He had one page of a fake lease, dated April 1, 2025.
Smith and Watson rented out the house almost continuously until their most recent tenant moved out in January 2025, leaving it vacant while they considered selling or finding a new renter. They called the police but were unable to file a report, since they weren’t the legal homeowners.
On June 13, Smith visited the home with her fiancé and cousin, finding it neglected and damaged.

“We go inside the home, and we find that the home is in squalor, meaning that there were beds on the floor, clothes on the floor,” Smith said. “There were a lot of vermin — there were roaches outside and everything, and they weren’t there before, so clearly it’s unkempt and unclean.”
Smith said they also discovered five unsupervised children inside, ranging in age from 2 to 14.

“There were no adults there, no supervision,” Smith said. “The house was in disarray.”
Smith says she filed a report with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services about the unsupervised children.
Neither the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services nor the Philadelphia Department of Human Services replied to requests for comment.
As they explored the house, they found the back door severely splintered and damaged, with a new lock.
Alarmed by the condition of the home, Smith called the police, hoping they would arrest the squatters for breaking and entering.
“The police wanted to turn it into a squatting situation instead of a breaking and entering situation, which is exactly what it is,” Smith said. “I have illegal trespassers in the home who are squatting, who broke through the back door.”
The alleged squatters — Stewart and a woman — arrived with several friends or family members around the same time as police. Stewart presented a fake lease and a gas bill to law enforcement, but could not provide a water bill or an electric bill, according to Smith.
The electric company stated that the squatters had contacted them to restore power to the house, according to Smith. Smith asked the company not to restore power.
Squatters often use fake leases to delay removal by police, knowing that only a judge can determine their validity. As a result, police are often required to let them remain in the home until the matter is settled in court.
While in the home, Smith said she found a second fake lease with the couple’s name for a different property in Elmwood Park, dated March 15, 2025.
“One of the documents on the other fake lease was a signed document by the landlord, who was the rightful owner of the property, and Antonio, saying that they planned to leave the property on Tuesday, April 15,” Smith said. “That was sketchy, because that shows that they did not actually legally rent the place.”
Another document showed that the couple was bribed by the rightful landlord to vacate the property, according to Smith.

“He actually paid them $1,500 to actually leave the property, to get them out,” Smith said.
Both leases named the landlord as Bryan Pulliam, but the documents showed two different rental companies.
“The person who is on these rental companies, the Bryan Pulliam guy, uses different, fake real estate companies to generate these leases for them,” Smith said.
Smith said she does not feel safe interacting with the squatters. She believes they are “career squatters.”
“The woman who was there, who would not give her name, also said, ‘You know what you have to do. You have to go downtown and evict us,’” Smith said. “So she knows the process, and they know how to do this, and they know what they can and can’t do as a part of this process.”
The rampant squatter crisis has captured the nation’s attention in recent years, with states such as <a href="https://www.flgov.com/eog/news/press/2025/governor-ron-desantis-signs-anti-squatting-legislation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Florida</a> and <a href="https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/georgia-passes-squatter-reform-act-impact" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Georgia</a> passing laws to crack down on the issue and A&amp;E launching the new TV show “Squatters,” featuring a former handyman who became a “squatter hunter” after squatters took over his mother&#8217;s home.
A squatting map published by Newsweek <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/squatting-map-cities-highest-number-homes-1886005" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a> Atlanta, Dallas, and Orlando as the cities with the most homes taken over by squatters. The survey, conducted by the National Rental Home Council in 2024, found 1,200 homes in Atlanta, 475 in Dallas, and 125 in Orlando that had been taken over by squatters.
Under Philadelphia law, Smith must let the legal process play out, which gets complicated in the case of fake leases. Homeowners are not permitted to forcibly <a href="https://phillysheriff.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/PSO-Squatters-and-Evictions-Brochure-Final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">evict</a> squatters by changing locks or removing belongings.
Smith filed <a href="https://fjdefile.phila.gov/efsfjd/zk_fjd_public_qry_03.zp_dktrpt_frames" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ejectment paperwork</a> with the sheriff’s office on June 13, but says serving the paperwork can take up to 30 days. Once served, the squatters have up to 20 days to file a response. If the squatters do not respond, they must be given a 10-day notice. At that point, Smith said, either the squatters will be ejected or a court date will be set.
“Where is the arrest warrant for the people who broke into the home? Arrest them for breaking and entering,” Smith said. “It’s very unfair that people break the law, and then they have rights and are protected for breaking the law. That’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Neither the city councilwoman for the district of Smith’s property, the mayor of Philadelphia, nor the governor of Pennsylvania responded to requests for comment.
The squatters, Smith said, have caused significant financial harm, since she’s losing rental income while still covering the mortgage.
“Once they leave the property, we’re going to have to do repairs,” Smith said. “We’re going to have to deep-clean and replace things in the home. On top of that, we’re also going to have to exterminate the heck out of that place.”
Smith said it is hard to find a lawyer willing to take ejectment cases.
“The fees for a lawyer to take an ejection case are $5,000,” Smith said. “Now you tell me why I have to spend all of that money to get somebody out of a property that they do not rightfully belong in.”
Now, she fears a lengthy battle to reclaim her property.
“I am the rightful owner, and I can’t understand why it’s so hard to eject someone who has no right to your place, your home, and something that you’ve worked so hard for,” Smith said.
The squatters have not responded to attempts to negotiate. Smith said she wishes she could speed up the ejection process.
“I wish the City of Philadelphia would really help,” Smith said.
Stewart did not return a request for comment.

Larry Krasner, the far-Left Philadelphia district attorney backed by George Soros, won the Democratic primary over a more moderate challenger on Tuesday night, likely securing a third term as he continues to push soft-on-crime policies.
Krasner was declared the winner over Pat Dugan, a U.S. Army veteran and former head administrative judge of the Philadelphia Municipal Court, according to the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/philadelphia-district-attorney-election-31df19bdb5fb6e10ad65e5702468e2b9" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associated Press</a>. With 83% of the vote counted as of Wednesday morning, Krasner was <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/05/20/us/elections/results-pennsylvania-district-attorney-philadelphia-primary.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ahead</a> of Dugan by nearly 30 percentage points. Krasner&#8217;s primary victory all but ensures his third four-year term, as no Republican candidate is running in the general election in November in the deep blue city.
During the primary race, Dugan nearly doubled Krasner&#8217;s donations, raking in $900,700 to Krasner&#8217;s $499,900 between November 2024 and May 2025, Philadelphia&#8217;s public radio station WHYY <a href="https://whyy.org/articles/philadelphia-district-attorney-race-campaign-finance/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. More than half of the money Krasner received for the primary came from people living outside of the city, including from wealthy leftists like Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben &amp; Jerry&#8217;s, and Patricia Quillin, the wife of Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings. Dugan, meanwhile, received most of his money from donors within Philadelphia.
Krasner focused his re-election messaging on national politics and President Donald Trump. In March, Krasner <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/soros-das-comments-about-punching-trump-could-haunt-him-in-re-election-fight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> Trump and his supporters &#8220;fascists&#8221; and &#8220;bullies who need to be punched in the face as hard as possible.&#8221;
“Trump likes crime. Fascists like crime. Right-wing Republican MAGA people like crime and they like it because it gins up a crisis that doesn’t have to be, which allows them to scapegoat different groups of marginalized people so they can eliminate our rights. This is a very old playbook,” he added.

Dugan portrayed himself as a moderate compared to Krasner, slamming the district attorney&#8217;s policies. Some of Krasner&#8217;s lenient policies include ending cash bail for some offenses, cutting back on parole supervision, and pushing for reduced sentences for certain crimes. Krasner oversaw a massive spike in homicides after taking office in 2018. Homicides in the city jumped from 351 in 2018 to 562 in 2021, according to Fox News. Philadelphia <a href="https://pennsylvaniaindependent.com/politics/philadelphia-violent-crime-hits-20-year-low-as-trump-says-city-is-suffering/#:~:text=The%20nonprofit%20Pew%20Charitable%20Trusts,%2C%20while%20murder%20fell%2026.4%25." target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> a drop in violent crime to a 20-year low in 2024.
The district attorney was impeached by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2022, but a Commonwealth Court judge ruled that the articles of impeachment didn&#8217;t meet the state constitution&#8217;s requirement.
The Philadelphia GOP <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/politics/philadelphia/patrick-dugan-gop-write-in-votes-pennsylvania-primary-election-2025-20250520.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">urged</a> voters to write in Dugan&#8217;s name on the Republican line in the primary election. If he receives 1,000 write-in votes, he could run as a Republican in the November general election. Dugan&#8217;s campaign manager, however, said he would decline the GOP nomination.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy posted an update on Tuesday, sharing what he said would be his final comments on the saga that unfolded after patrons at his bar in Center City, Philadelphia, ordered bottle service and paid for a sign that said &#8220;f*** the Jews.&#8221;
Following the incident, Portnoy said that he spoke to the student who&#8217;d uploaded video of the sign to Instagram — Mohammed Adnan Khan — and initially, he&#8217;d been apologetic and tearful. Rather than ruin a college student&#8217;s life, Portnoy offered to send him to Auschwitz in the hopes of turning a hateful incident into a learning experience.
Over the next couple of days, the Barstool founder shared several updates — and ultimately revealed that he&#8217;d revoked his offer after Khan backtracked and claimed he had no connection to the antisemitic sign. By Tuesday, Khan had gone a step further.
Portnoy began his update with a post on X advertising a crowd-funding page — that he said was more fitting for a satire site like The Onion or The Babylon Bee — in which an apparent friend of Khan requested people send money to help him &#8220;stand against trial by public opinion&#8221; and support his &#8220;fight for due process and redemption.&#8221;

Khan went on to complain that the sign was just &#8220;an edgy joke&#8221; and claimed that he was being made into a victim of cancel culture.
Portnoy was not buying it, however, and he shot back, &#8220;This dude is a flat liar. I talked to him on the phone with his buddy and they both owned up to it and cried about it. He then lawyered up after speaking with his family. His name got out because he’s a moron and uploaded &#8216;F*** the Jews&#8217; sign to his instagram before I even knew about it. He already went viral without me.&#8221;
&#8220;He spreads hate and uses the conflict in Middle East as his excuse. And did it in a bar with my company&#8217;s name on it. Now he’s trying to profit from it. I’m sure he’ll make money because there is lots of antisemitism in the world. Regardless this is the least surprising thing ever,&#8221; Portnoy continued. &#8220;He is the definition of a coward. Zero accountability for his actions. I don’t care what religion you are or even how you feel about Middle East. This was an act of pure hate and this should disgust you.&#8221;

But the drama did not end there. Portnoy followed with a video response to the GiveSendGo page for Khan — which, at the time of publication, had not even raised $1000 — and a video clip that he said was Khan throwing water on a sleeping homeless person.
