California State Senator Scott Wiener, who last week announced his campaign to replace former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has such a controversial legislative record, even the New York Times is taking notice.
A recent New York Times Magazine <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/26/magazine/sex-trafficking-girls-la-figueroa.html">report</a> on Los Angeles&#8217; underage sex trafficking epidemic attributed the problem in large part to a law that barred police officers from detaining loitering women they suspected were minors being sex trafficked. Under “Safer Streets for All Act,&#8221; officers have to “swear they had a reason to suspect each girl was underage&#8221; before detaining one of the lingerie-clad women lingering on Figueroa Street, which officers say is made because of difficult because of “fake eyelashes and wigs.”
Wiener was one of the main advocates of that bill, which he said would improve racial equity in Los Angeles. 
“Our bill to repeal the crime of “loitering with intent to commit prostitution” — arresting someone simply for standing on a sidewalk &amp; “appearing” to be a sex worker — passed the Senate,” Wiener wrote on X in June 2021. “This crime targets trans, Black &amp; Brown women &amp; needs to go. In response to a Daily Wire inquiry about the New York Times report, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office said that a recent bill signed this year could help mitigate some of the issues referenced in the story, and called human trafficking “an evil and egregious crime.”
“The Governor signed AB 379 this summer, which will allow police to detain individuals suspected of seeking to purchase sex, and help clear out some of the areas discussed in the article. This new law also provides additional tools to local law enforcement to better hold these criminals performing these heinous crimes accountable,” a Newsom spokesman said in a statement.
Assembly Bill 379, which Newsom signed earlier this year, makes it a misdemeanor &#8220;for any person to loiter in any public place with the intent to purchase commercial sex.&#8221; RedState<a href="https://redstate.com/jenniferoo/2025/10/28/in-a-random-act-of-journalism-new-york-times-exposes-las-corridor-of-human-trafficking-n2195553#google_vignette"> reported</a> that the Los Angeles Police Department had its hands tied prior to the SB 357, as former District Attorney George Gascón had a directive that prevented people from being arrested or charged for &#8220;loitering to commit prostitution.&#8221;
“The reality is — the federal agency that is supposed to combat trafficking is ICE. Maybe Trump and Miller should do their job rather than targeting and terrorizing black and brown American citizens at random on the street,” the statement from Newsom&#8217;s office continued.
Pelosi says she will make <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/22/pelosi-to-announce-plans-after-california-election-in-november-00618093?nid=00000150-384f-da43-aff2-bf7fd35a0000&amp;nname=california-playbook&amp;nrid=e020d956-2db5-4585-996e-4267fbfeb333">announcement</a> regarding her political future in November, after California votes on a major redistricting initiative. It’s unclear whether Wiener’s announcement will set off a major primary battle should Pelosi opt to retire. Pelosi reportedly favors San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan as her successor.
Wiener’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

The Department of Justice warned multiple top Democratic California politicians, including Gov. Gavin Newsom and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, of potential charges on Thursday, after Pelosi suggested that federal immigration agents could be arrested by state and local police.
Earlier this week, Pelosi, along with Democratic Rep. Kevin Mullin, <a href="https://pelosi.house.gov/news/press-releases/pelosi-mullin-statement-reports-planned-federal-immigration-operation-bay-area">threatened</a> that ICE agents could be detained as President Donald Trump considered a major immigration operation in San Francisco. In response, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche sent a letter to Newsom, Pelosi, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, urging them to &#8220;abandon this apparent criminal conspiracy.&#8221;
&#8220;The Department of Justice views any arrests of federal agents and officers in the performance of their official duties as both illegal and futile,&#8221; Blanche wrote. The deputy attorney general then cited multiple federal laws that prohibit interfering with federal law enforcement operations.
The California Democrats addressed in the letter were told to &#8220;preserve all written and electronic communications and records related to any attempts to or efforts to impede or obstruct federal law enforcement officials.&#8221;
&#8220;We urge you and other California officials to publicly abandon this apparent criminal conspiracy, to stop threatening law enforcement, and to prioritize the safety of your citizens,&#8221; Blanche added. &#8220;In the meantime, federal agents and officers will continue to enforce federal law and will not be deterred by the threat of arrest by California authorities who have abdicated their duty to protect their constituents.&#8221;

&#8220;If they think I won’t [charge them], they have not met me,&#8221; Bondi added. &#8220;Because we will charge them if they are violating the law. We will protect our federal agents.&#8221;
Pelosi and Mullin, who both represent parts of the Bay Area, wrote in a <a href="https://pelosi.house.gov/news/press-releases/pelosi-mullin-statement-reports-planned-federal-immigration-operation-bay-area">press release</a> on Wednesday that California law &#8220;prevents federal agents from taking certain actions.&#8221; The Democratic lawmakers added, &#8220;Our state and local authorities may arrest federal agents if they break California law — and if they are convicted, the President cannot pardon them.&#8221;
California Democrats have also moved to make ICE agents show their faces while on the job. Late last month, Newsom signed a bill into law that bans ICE agents from wearing masks during arrests. The bill was signed as federal immigration agents face a massive increase in attacks on them, including shootings and car rammings. ICE sources told <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nice-try-gavin-newsom-cant-stop-ice-agents-from-wearing-masks-sources-say">The Daily Wire</a> that the new California law would not apply to the federal officers, and U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli told “Fox &amp; Friends” that California “does not and cannot have jurisdiction” over the federal agents.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-to-target-san-francisco-with-immigration-raids">announced</a> on Monday that the Trump administration would soon target San Francisco as part of its crackdown on crime and illegal immigrants. However, after Trump said some of his friends in San Francisco urged him to hold off on the federal law enforcement &#8220;surge,&#8221; the president had a phone call with Democratic San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and decided to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-calls-off-deployment-of-federal-agents-to-san-francisco">hold off</a> on the operation.
“The Federal Government was preparing to ‘surge’ San Francisco, California, on Saturday, but friends of mine who live in the area called last night to ask me not to go forward with the surge in that the Mayor, Daniel Lurie, was making substantial progress,” Trump <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1981406531926315028?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">wrote</a> on Truth Social Thursday. “I spoke to Mayor Lurie last night and he asked, very nicely, that I give him a chance to see if he can turn it around. I told him I think he is making a mistake, because we can do it much faster, and remove the criminals that the Law does not permit him to remove.”

As speculation mounts that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will soon announce her retirement, one California lawmaker is wasting no time entering the succession race.
California State Senator Scott Wiener announced his candidacy Wednesday, hours after <a href="https://www.politico.com/playbook" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Politico</a> reported that Pelosi may announce her retirement soon after California votes on a controversial redistricting proposal. Wiener, who’s considered one of the most outspoken leftist members of the California State Legislature, did not name Pelosi in his campaign launch video.
“My family escaped fascism in Europe. I never thought the United States would slip into fascism like we’re seeing today,” Wiener said. “San Francisco has always been on the right side of history.”
“Join me now, before everything we believe in is lost for good,” he continued.
Wiener’s bid comes as Democrats continue to debate the concept of letting younger candidates pave the way for the party. Numerous reports surfaced earlier this year about whether Pelosi would run again. Pelosi, who is 85 years old, has been in Congress since 1987. Wiener is 55.
Some of the major campaign points on Wiener&#8217;s campaign website include LGBT issues and countering the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
“He authored the nation’s first LGBTQ refuge law, and expanded privacy protections to prevent harassment and targeting against transgender and nonbinary people. As Senate Budget Chair, he secured $15 million in state funds to cover gender affirming healthcare that Trump is attempting to cut from Medicaid,” his <a href="https://www.scottwiener.com/priorities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a> states, as Wiener’s campaign logo also features a pride flag.
“When masked agents began disappearing people off the street in San Francisco, he passed first of its kind legislation to unmask them. In Congress, he will lead the charge to protect our immigrant neighbors and get ICE OUT OF CALIFORNIA!!!,” Wiener’s site says about immigration.

The anti-masking ICE bill was signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in September and will take effect in January. However, the legislation has raised questions about how it could be legally enforced, given that it pertains to federal officers.
“Good news for Americans and public safety: [ICE] and [DHS] law enforcement are part of the federal government,” Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in September after the bill was signed. “We don’t need to abide by this garbage.”
It’s unclear whether Wiener&#8217;s announcement will set off a major primary battle should Pelosi opt to retire. San Francisco has made national headlines in recent days as President Donald Trump considers deploying the National Guard to the city, which state leaders have said will be met with lawsuits. Earlier this week, DHS Assistant Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the city will be a focus of the administration’s ICE efforts.
“We continue to have targeted operations in many, many cities, but also very focused on those where challenges are still remaining, such as Portland, Chicago, we’re in Memphis as well, we’re going to San Francisco at the direction of the president as well,” Noem said, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-to-target-san-francisco-with-immigration-raids" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) lost her cool on Wednesday when a reporter asked her if a new Republican-led committee would find her “liable” for her actions leading up to the January 6 riot. 
“Why did you refuse the National Guard on January 6?” LindellTV reporter Alison Steinberg asked Pelosi as she walked outside the Capitol with one hand gripping the arm of a staffer. LindellTV is a network founded by MyPillow CEO and Trump supporter Mike Lindell. 
“Shut up,” Pelosi <a href="https://x.com/RealLindellTV/status/1978498747647881514">said</a>. “I did not refuse the National Guard, the president didn’t send it. Why are you coming here with your Republican talking points as if you’re a serious journalist?”
“The American people want to know. We still have questions. Thank you,” Steinberg replied. 
The question of who was responsible for delaying the National Guard’s deployment on January 6 has long divided Republicans and Democrats.
A Republican House <a href="https://cha.house.gov/2022/12/gop-16-appointees-release-report-capitol-security-failure">report</a> released in December 2022 found that the National Guard was not deployed earlier on January 6 because of  “widespread concern from Democrat leadership over &#8216;optics&#8217; in the aftermath of summer 2020 ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests.”

Later, footage taken by Alexandra Pelosi for an HBO documentary released by the House Republicans appeared to show Pelosi taking responsibility for the chaotic law enforcement response to January 6. 
“You’re gonna ask me in the middle of the thing, when they’ve already breached the inaugural stuff, ‘Should we call the Capitol Police?’? I mean the National Guard. Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?” Pelosi said in the footage. 
A staffer replied, saying the National Guard thought they had “sufficient resources.” 
“It’s not a question of how they had … they don’t know! They clearly didn’t know, and I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more,” Pelosi said.

Voting has already kicked off in California for Proposition 50, which aims to redraw the state’s congressional maps more heavily in favor of Democrats until new maps are created after the 2030 census.
The proposal is meant to counteract Republicans’ gain of five seats in Texas under a redistricting plan approved by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in August, following a hard-fought battle in the state legislature.
“Proposition 50 is a direct response to a Republican power grab orchestrated by President Trump and state leaders in Texas, who redrew Congressional district lines to gain five more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives,” the California Democratic Party’s website states.
“Proposition 50 proposes new lines for many of California’s 52 congressional districts, which would negate the five Republican seats drawn by Texas. Under the proposed lines, Democrats could gain up to 5 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives,” the<a href="https://cadem.org/yes-on-proposition-50-faq/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> website</a> adds, saying that a Democratic majority could “fight back” against President Donald Trump’s agenda.
But if the Texas maps somehow fall through in a court battle, California’s new map, favoring Democrats, would still exist,<a href="https://www.kcra.com/article/california-proposition-50-explained/68888242" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> KCRA</a> reported.
The ballot measure has the backing of California Governor Gavin Newsom and many statewide Democrats, but Republicans and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have voiced opposition to the proposition, as have the majority of district attorneys in the Golden State, according to<a href="https://www.sanluisobispo.com/opinion/us-viewpoints/article312447815.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> The Tribune</a>.
“If you believe gerrymandering is wrong, vote NO on 50,” Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) posted to X on Sunday. “If you believe politicians should be bound by the Constitution, vote NO on 50.”
Still, opponents of the measure face an uphill battle, as a recent co/efficient poll released at the start of October shows that 54% of those surveyed support Prop. 50, whereas 36% are opposed and 10% are unsure, <a href="https://punchbowl.news/article/campaigns/prop-50-polling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Punchbowl News</a> reported.
Both sides have been mobilizing on the issue, with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asking on X for people to volunteer for the effort, saying it would “help promote our vision of a more free, safer, and healthier California for all.” On Tuesday, former President Barack Obama released an <a href="https://x.com/MediumBuying/status/1978087770632380459" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ad</a> saying, “California, the whole nation is counting on you.”
However, opponents are optimistic despite being significantly outspent, according to <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/california-playbook-pm/2025/09/29/the-incredible-shrinking-republican-campaign-against-prop-50-00585589#:~:text=But%20they%20are%20not%20doing,turnout%20from%20the%20Republican%20base." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Politico</a>, saying that once the meaning of the proposition’s technical language is explained, people typically oppose it.
On the California Secretary of State’s<a href="https://voterguide.sos.ca.gov/quick-reference-guide/50.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> website,</a> the proposition is tabled under the quick references guide as allowing  “temporary changes to congressional district maps in response to Texas’ partisan redistricting.”
“Yes, with two caveats, turnout and voter contact,” Los Angeles County GOP Chair Roxanne Hoge told The Daily Wire when asked if the proposition can be defeated.
“If we didn&#8217;t have the crazy title in summary that they had, it would be like Prop 36, right. Overwhelming. But given the title and summary we have, it&#8217;s neck and neck,” she added. Proposition 36 was a crime crackdown measure that passed with nearly 70% of the vote in 2024 despite opposition from many notable Democrats.
Election Day is November 4 in California.
California is one of several states that has descended into a redistricting battle. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe approved an electoral map in September that could benefit Republicans with another congressional seat, but a referendum and legal challenges could jeopardize the plan, according to the <a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2025/09/22/missouri-voters-likely-to-deliver-final-verdict-on-congressional-map-initiative-changes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Missouri Independent</a>.
“I was proud to officially sign the Missouri First Map into law today ahead of the 2026 midterm election,” the Republican said at the time in a statement. “Missourians are more alike than we are different, and our values, across both sides of the aisle, are closer to each other than those of the congressional representation of states like New York, California, and Illinois. We believe this map best represents Missourians, and I appreciate the support and efforts of state legislators, our congressional delegation, and President Trump in getting this map to my desk.”
New York and other states have also mulled new maps, and the debate has put an additional strain on Ohio’s ongoing redistricting process.

Hewitt asked the question point blank: &#8220;Should that man, Jay Jones, drop out of the race?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, it&#8217;s horrific. There&#8217;s no excuse for it,&#8221; Khanna began. &#8220;I fully condemn it. And yeah, I haven&#8217;t followed all the details, but if he was actually saying that, I certainly wouldn&#8217;t support him.&#8221;
While many Democrats have come forward to condemn Jones&#8217; remarks, they have repeatedly stopped short of calling for him to exit the race — and some have even <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-virginia-senator-says-jay-jones-still-has-his-support">defended him</a> staying in the race either by claiming that despite those texts, he was still a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/virginia-dems-say-candidate-who-fantasized-about-murdering-gop-leader-is-better-than-republicans">better choice</a> for attorney general than the Republican incumbent, Attorney General <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/is-the-virginia-way-dead-ag-jason-miyares-breaks-down-whats-really-at-stake-in-jay-jones-race">Jason Miyares</a>. Khanna became the first prominent member of the party to break with Jones.
Even former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) attempted to split the baby, telling CNN anchor Dana Bash that whether or not Jones should leave the race was a decision best left to leaders in Virginia — and then said that since he&#8217;d at least apologized, &#8220;What I understand is they say, on balance, he is a better person to be Attorney General.&#8221;

When pressed during an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aR85WkgO8bc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with &#8220;Bloomberg Surveillance&#8221; on whether President Donald Trump is prepared to sign off on stock trading legislation <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senate-panel-votes-to-ban-stock-trading-for-lawmakers-president-and-vp-but-spares-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">making its way</a> through Congress, Bessent said he did not believe a &#8220;perfect bill&#8221; had been introduced yet, but did express a desire for a crackdown.

Pelosi&#8217;s well-known success in the stock market during her time in Congress has drawn intense scrutiny, but it may not be examined by the Securities and Exchange Commission or be a focus of any formal investigation any time soon. In fact, just last month, senators <a href="https://x.com/SenRickScott/status/1950637197272727566" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shot down</a> a measure seeking an inquiry into her trades.
During a recent appearance on CNN, Pelosi <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nancy-pelosi-visibly-perturbed-by-cnns-random-act-of-journalism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> to Trump accusing her of insider trading, rejecting the claim.
&#8220;That’s ridiculous,” Pelosi said. &#8220;In fact, I very much support the — stop the trading of members of Congress, not that I think anybody’s doing anything wrong, if they are, they are prosecuted and they go to jail. &#8220;The House and the Senate, they&#8217;re supposed to be working for the American people — their constituents,&#8221; Bessent said. &#8220;They&#8217;re supposed to be making law. And they shouldn&#8217;t be trading every day. I&#8217;m not going to name names, but there was one person in Congress who had 12 or 13 hundred trades two years ago. And you know, my hedge fund didn&#8217;t have that many trades.&#8221;
Bessent also warned, &#8220;There&#8217;s something going on on Capitol Hill in terms of information leakage that is statistically &#8230; not sound.&#8221;

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s (D-CA) indignant reaction to a recent question from CNN&#8217;s Jake Tapper gave away the game, revealing just how rare an occasion it is for a member of her party to be held to account by almost anyone in media.
Pelosi&#8217;s name had come up multiple times during spirited debate in the Senate over a bill — presented by Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) — that would bar members of Congress from owning stock. Tapper pressed Pelosi on the issue, using a comment from President Donald Trump to kick off the conversation.

Tapper pushed back, saying that he had only &#8220;wanted to give you a chance just to respond. He accused you of insider trading, what&#8217;s your response to that?&#8221;

Pelosi then attempted to make the conversation about President Donald Trump, suggesting that he was only shining a spotlight on her to deflect from something he must have done.

She then pivoted again to claim that the man who entered her San Francisco home and attacked her husband had been &#8220;inspired by [Trump]&#8221; before suggesting that it would be better if they could just go back to talking about Medicaid.

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) should be investigated for insider trading.
The former speaker, along with her venture capitalist husband, has faced allegations of insider trading as her investments outperformed almost every major hedge fund in 2024, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/21/us-news/pelosi-added-millions-to-net-worth-last-year-report/">reported</a>.
&#8220;You know, Nancy Pelosi became rich by having inside information. She made a fortune with her husband, and I think that&#8217;s disgraceful,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1950617253952582084">said</a> during a press conference at the White House.
&#8220;And what I do think is Nancy Pelosi should be investigated, because she has the highest return of anybody practically in the history of Wall Street, save a few,&#8221; Trump added. &#8220;And how did that happen? It happened by she knows exactly what&#8217;s gonna happen, what&#8217;s gonna be announced, she buys stock, and then the stock goes up after the announcement&#8217;s made. Pelosi denied Trump&#8217;s allegations, calling them &#8220;ridiculous.&#8221;

Trump&#8217;s comments come as the White House pushes back on Sen. Josh Hawley&#8217;s (R-MO) legislation moving through Congress that bans members of Congress, presidents, and vice presidents from trading stocks. Earlier on Wednesday, Trump said he &#8220;conceptually&#8221; supported the bill and said he would &#8220;take a look at it,&#8221; but later, he sounded off on social media, <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114944074791548865">ripping</a> Hawley for voting with Democrats and saying that the senator &#8220;blocked a Review, sponsored by Senator Rick Scott, and with the support of almost all other Republicans, of Nancy Pelosi’s Stock Trading over the last 25 years.&#8221;
In order to get Democrats on board and get the bill out of committee, Hawley added bans on stock trading for the president and vice president, Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/07/29/white-house-lobbies-hawley-stock-trading-ban?__cf_chl_rt_tk=v9FeShaJe9kRh.Vx7PvbEJGvywlNI_9XmqpC9RtUiUI-1753913000-1.0.1.1-ViM7NXL.YFMoNgW53J4tR8B4w_cjg8pg1RWJM0guJE0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Hawley&#8217;s legislation includes a carve-out for Trump and would not require the president to divest his holdings for the remainder of his term, POLITICO <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/07/30/congress/trump-comes-for-hawley-00485868">reported</a>. Hawley emphasized that carve-out and told reporters, “Listen, I want the President to sign the bill, so I’m happy to do whatever it would take to get him to say, ‘Yes, this is good.’”
A Senate panel advanced this version of the bill on Wednesday. Hawley voted with Democrats to advance the bill, with the other Republicans voting against it. It could now get a vote by the full Senate, which has a 53-seat GOP majority.
Pelosi also endorsed the bill.
&#8220;We must have strong transparency, robust accountability and tough enforcement for financial conduct in office because the American people deserve confidence that their elected leaders are serving the public interest — not their personal portfolios,&#8221; Pelosi said in a <a href="https://pelosi.house.gov/news/press-releases/pelosi-statement-support-congressional-stock-trading-ban">statement</a>. &#8220;I strongly support this legislation and look forward to voting for it on the Floor of the House.&#8221;

Hunter Biden is back.
There are a couple of reasons why that matters. One is that Hunter Biden is a stand-in for his father. When Hunter talks, Hunter is speaking for Joe Biden. And when he speaks for Joe Biden, he is speaking for the establishment wing of the Democratic Party.
The second reason is that Hunter Biden&#8217;s exposure of the entire Left for the fraud that it is, because of his father, is quite incredible.
It is worthwhile to remember that Hunter Biden was part of that inner coterie of people surrounding Joe Biden who knew that Joe was unhealthy, mentally unwell, and who left him in place because they were essentially playing at the presidency. When you listen to Hunter, you should understand he was at least partially the actual president of the United States for several years.
So that makes Hunter’s interview with Andrew Callaghan of Channel 5 on YouTube important.
He said Nancy Pelosi drove Biden out of the race. “You know who did not want Kamala Harris to be president and did not want her to be the nominee?” Hunter asked. “Nancy Pelosi didn&#8217;t want her to be; none of Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s people wanted her to be. They wanted an open convention. They wanted a floor fight. I don&#8217;t know what the hell they wanted, but they wanted to be the ones to anoint whoever they were going to anoint to become the next president of the United States. … All I know is that they definitely did not want Kamala Harris, which undermined her, which undermined the campaign.”
He also took some swipes at people like George Clooney and David Axelrod, saying:

He was given the blessing by the Obama team or the Obama people and whoever else, and David Axelrod and whoever the f*** else. &#8230; ‘We are going to insert our judgment over yours.’ We, me, and James Carville, who hasn&#8217;t won a race in 40 f***ing years, and David Axelrod, who had one success in his political life, and that was Barack Obama — and that was because of Barack Obama, not because of David Axelrod and David Plouffe and all of these guys, the Pod Save America guys who were junior speechwriters on Barack Obama&#8217;s Senate staff who have been dining out on the relationship with him for years, making millions of dollars, the Anita Dunns of the world, who&#8217;s made $40, $50 million off the Democratic Party &#8230; I don&#8217;t have to be nice. &#8230; What right do you have to step on a man who&#8217;s given 52 years of his life to the services of this country and decide that you, George Clooney, are going to take out basically a full page ad in The New York Times to undermine the president?</blockquote>
Hunter also suggested that he was totally qualified to be on Burisma&#8217;s board. One of the kind of seamy realities about the last election cycle is that some of it was about Joe Biden&#8217;s age. A lot of it was about a widespread perception of the Biden family&#8217;s absolutely deep and abiding corruption.

Hunter denied he had been put on the board of Burisma for any political reason, which, of course, is absolutely ridiculous. He had no experience in the energy sector. He couldn&#8217;t point out Ukraine on a map, and suddenly he was on the board of a Ukrainian energy firm?
It had nothing to do with his last name being Biden.
The last part of the interview was amusing — Hunter defending himself by making the argument that crack is somehow safer than alcohol, which is a hell of an argument.
But put all of this aside. Put aside the Biden administration and its corruption, the fact that Joe Biden was dead for several years, and that his family was essentially running the government. If you see Hunter as a stand-in for the Joe Biden moderate wing of the Democratic Party, things start to get interesting because Hunter Biden also spoke about policy.
There were two particular issues where Hunter Biden put specific focus: illegal immigration and Israel. These issues are the ones where Democrats are completely at odds with the American people, but they will not let it go. They are more likely to let go of the trans issue than to let go of illegal immigration and open borders, as well as the new flavor of the month, that Palestinians are the great victims in the Middle East, including Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, Islamic Jihad, and all the rest of the terrorist groups.
If you&#8217;re trying to figure out the direction of the Democratic Party, if you&#8217;re trying to get out the divining rod and determine which direction the Democratic Party is going to move into, the more moderate side or the more radical side, here’s the key: the moderates are already caving to the radicals.
They may separate from the trans stuff because it&#8217;s been so wildly unsuccessful for them. But the root cause of the Democratic Party is a belief that America is a great victimizer in the world, and therefore, America ought not to have borders, and also America’s foreign policy should be to abandon any strong ally, as long as it is beneficial to the Democratic Party.
“All these Democrats say you have to talk about and realize that people are really upset about illegal immigration,” he said. “How do you think your hotel room gets cleaned? How do you think you get food on your table? Who do you think washes your dishes? Who do you think does your garden? Who do you think is here, by the sheer, just grit and will that they figured out a way to get here because they thought that they could give themselves and their family a better chance, and he&#8217;s (Trump) somehow convinced all of us that these people are criminals? White men in America are 45 more times likely to commit violent crime than an immigrant.”
He actually concluded that statement by suggesting that we should actually force El Salvador to send back illegal immigrants. Which is funny, since the ones we&#8217;re sending to El Salvador are, by and large, people with actual criminal records.
This is vitally important because Hunter was Joe Biden&#8217;s partially functioning brain during the administration. This is the Democratic Party perspective on illegal immigration: America ought to be an open borders country because unfettered immigration, without any sort of real security, without any sort of concern about cultural assimilation, is an effective good.
That is something the Democratic Party deeply believes in. As we start discussing 2028 candidates understand, there will not be a Democrat on the stage who significantly calls for border security.
It&#8217;s not just with regard to immigration. The Democratic Party also realizes that the energy in its party is very much on the side of third-world-ism.
It&#8217;s the Zoran Mamdani belief that the Third World has been victimized by America and her allies, and therefore the Third World must have her revenge. Hunter was talking about the dramatic increase in antisemitism under his father&#8217;s administration and claimed the real reason for that is because of the Israelis. In other words, after Hamas murdered 1,200 Jews in Israel and took 250 hostage, a couple of dozen of whom are still being held hostage after a year and a half, it&#8217;s Israel&#8217;s fault that antisemitism broke out.
He quoted the noted hater of Israel, Tom Friedman, saying that the worst thing that&#8217;s happened to the Jewish people is the Israeli government. “Jewish people globally, the threats to their lives, the anti-Semitism that it has generated,” he said.
The worst thing that has happened to the Jewish people is the Israeli government, according to Hunter Biden. Then he bragged about how his father tried to hamstring Israel in its pursuit of getting back its hostages and ending Hamas, an actual, honest-to-god, American State Department-designated terrorist group in the Gaza Strip.
“He took away the bunker-busting bombs from the Israelis,” he boasted. “He tried to curtail Netanyahu&#8217;s thing. He forced Netanyahu to open up shipping lanes and aid lanes at the Rafah crossing to be able to get food aid in. He put pressure over and over and over again. And now, by the way, that is not even remotely happening. What is happening is that they were bombing food lines. There is no one in there to be able to record it. &#8230;There have been more journalists killed at this war in Gaza than in any other war combined, and nobody&#8217;s doing anything about it.”
This is propaganda on behalf of Hamas, because the reality is that the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, the GHF, which has been actually facilitating the entry of aid into Gaza, has been denying Hamas access to the food, which is why Hamas is shooting people and then attempting to insinuate itself among the population in order to shoot at Israeli soldiers, who then respond. That is the reality.
But these are the parts of the Democratic base that the Democrats are trying to woo. It is very important to them, illegal immigration, and third-world-ism. There is no systemic immunity for the Democratic Party against the radical base.
It does not exist. So if you think they&#8217;re going to nominate somebody who&#8217;s quasi-moderate in 2028, you’re wrong.
It is not going to happen.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) reintroduced the anti-corruption PELOSI Act on Friday, aiming to ban members of Congress from trading individual stocks, while President Trump signaled he would sign such legislation into law.
The legislation, whose acronym PELOSI stands for &#8220;Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments,&#8221; and is named after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose husband has drawn <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/deceptive-tactic-nancy-pelosi-disclosed-180000159.html">scrutiny</a> for millions in suspected insider trading.
&#8220;Members of Congress should be fighting for the people they were elected to serve — not day trading at the expense of their constituents,&#8221; Hawley <a href="https://www.hawley.senate.gov/hawley-reintroduces-pelosi-act-to-ban-congress-from-trading-stocks/">stated</a>, according to a press release from his office.
&#8220;Americans have seen politician after politician turn a profit using information not available to the general public,&#8221; the Missouri Republican added. &#8220;It&#8217;s time we ban all members of Congress from trading and holding stocks and restore Americans&#8217; trust in our nation&#8217;s legislative body.&#8221;
Under Hawley&#8217;s proposal, elected officials and their spouses would be barred from owning individual stocks while serving in Congress.
The legislation would still allow investment in broader financial instruments such as mutual funds, ETFs, and Treasury bonds.
The bill provides a six-month grace period for compliance after enactment. Any lawmaker refusing to divest would face financial penalties and surrender profits to the federal treasury.
The Government Accountability Office would be required to audit congressional compliance with the law within two years of enactment and submit a report to congressional ethics committees, according to the <a href="https://www.hawley.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Hawley-PELOSI-Act.pdf">legislation</a>.
When asked on Friday by a reporter if he would support a ban on congressional stock trading, President Trump said he would “absolutely” sign such a bill.
&#8220;Well, I watched Nancy Pelosi get rich through insider information, and I would be okay with it. If they send that to me, I would do it,&#8221; the President said.

The issue has <a href="https://publicconsultation.org/united-states/stock-trading-by-members-of-congress/">garnered</a> bipartisan support for reform, with polls consistently showing over 80% of Americans favor banning congressional stock trading.
Similar legislation has been introduced in previous sessions of Congress but failed to advance to a floor vote in either chamber despite widespread public support.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took a swipe at former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) during Tuesday&#8217;s daily briefing, pointing to the California Congresswoman&#8217;s previous statements on tariffs and saying that President Donald Trump was only doing what she&#8217;d suggested.
Leavitt referenced Pelosi&#8217;s stance on tariffs — and specifically, the United States&#8217; trade deficit with communist China — from nearly 30 years earlier, and argued that she should be pleased with the &#8220;retaliatory tariff&#8221; the Trump administration was placing on China.
Pelosi, in a recently-recirculated <a href="https://x.com/ThomasSowell/status/1907875133638705646" target="_blank" rel="noopener">clip</a> from 1996, stood on the House floor and laid out her reasoning for hitting back at China economically — among them the fact that China placed an average tariff of 35% on all goods coming from the United States, and only allowed some 2% of U.S. exports to cross the border into the country. In return, the United States had only a 2% tariff on Chinese goods — and allowed one-third of the goods produced in China to be imported into the country. The result of that deficit was 10,000,000 Chinese jobs supported by U.S. imports compared to only 170,000 American jobs supported by Chinese trade. That, she said, was a &#8220;status quo&#8221; that was unacceptable.
&#8220;On this day, your member of Congress could have drawn the line to say to the President of the United States, do something about this U.S.-China trade relationship that is a job loser for the United States,&#8221; she said at the time.
Leavitt, during Tuesday&#8217;s briefing, referenced that speech, saying, &#8220;Nancy Pelosi said, &#8216;How far does China have to go? How much more oppression? How big a trade deficit? How many jobs have to be lost for the American workers? How much dangerous proliferation has to exist before members of this House of Representatives will say, &#8216;I will not endorse the status quo&#8217;?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, President Trump is finally answering her call,&#8221; Leavitt continued. &#8220;Nancy Pelosi can thank President Trump today for the 104% retaliatory tariff that will be going into effect on China.&#8221;
