Without support from a single House Democrat, Republican Wisconsin Representative Bryan Steil’s “Stop Insider Trading Act” passed the House Administration Committee and will move on to the House floor for consideration.
If enacted, the bill would restrict members of Congress from buying individual securities and would require notice seven to 14 days before a sale. Lawmakers would be able to continue to buy index and mutual funds, as well as continue investing dividends in previously purchased securities.
Democrats continue to argue that the bill is not strong enough, with many stating that trading should be banned entirely and that lawmakers should be required to fully divest before taking office.
Throughout the two-hour markup, Democratic House reps proposed amendments. Ranking member Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY) proposed requiring “Congress and the President and the Vice President” to fully divest. Rep. Julie Johnson (D-TX) offered a similar amendment that would mandate full divestment without providing relief from capital gains taxes.
Steil pushed back, warning that mandatory divestment could discourage qualified candidates from seeking office.
“Under the amendment offered by our colleague from Texas, that [capital gains tax] would obviously continue to apply &#8230; [and] for some people that may be a very significant financial impact,” he said.
He added that the financial burden could lead “some individuals … to not come to Congress — and not because they did anything wrong, but because they had a successful private sector career.”
Chris Josephs, the co-founder of Autopilot, an app that allows average Americans to trade the same stocks Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) trades, previously voiced the same concerns to The Daily Wire about legislation requiring full divestment.
“I think it would demotivate a major class of successful people from running,” Josephs said. “Businesspeople are successful. They know how to run things. They know how to lead. They know how to hire. They know how to create strategies. They know how to execute on those strategies. We should not just say no to those potential candidates just because they own businesses and they&#8217;re not gonna sell.”
Josephs told The Daily Wire he suspected that the 2024 election would have looked drastically different with full divestments in place.
“The 2024 election, you got Trump and Vance. Vance is an ex-venture capitalist, ex-business guy. He owns a lot of individual stocks that are private. And then you’ve got Trump, who owns a lot of stuff. On the other side of the ticket, though, you’ve got Kamala, who&#8217;s a career-long politician. You’ve got Tim Walz, who proudly doesn&#8217;t even own a house. And if that bill were to be passed, just based on how that would work, Trump and Vance wouldn&#8217;t be allowed to run unless they sold their stuff, which I doubt they would have.”
After full-divestment amendments were rejected, Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA) introduced an amendment to prohibit the reinvestment of dividends. Republicans voted it down, keeping dividend reinvestment permissible under the bill.
Steil defended the decision, arguing that dividend payments do not pose the same insider trading risks.
“Those dividends are structured within the company with advanced notice, outside of the control of any given member. It doesn&#8217;t carry the risk of insider trading,” he said. “Because it doesn&#8217;t carry the risk of insider trading, what we allowed for was the reinvestment of dividends.”
He later emphasized the bill’s intent, saying, “The focus here is to prevent members from being able to profit off of insider information — not to make elected officials poor.&#8221;

America’s frustration with congressional stock trading exploded after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) trades were exposed by Autopilot investment app co-founder <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chris-josephs-knows-pelosis-stock-trades-better-than-anyone-he-says-they-should-be-banned">Chris Josephs</a>. Five years later, lawmakers may finally be forced to respond.
On Monday, Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) <a href="https://x.com/RepBryanSteil">introduced</a> the “Stop Insider Trading Act,” delivering a sharp message to his colleagues. “If you want to trade stocks, you should go to Wall Street,” he said.
&#8220;We are very excited by this bill as we believe it is the most reasonable one proposed to date,” Josephs told The Daily Wire.
Steil’s bill would prohibit lawmakers from buying individual stocks during their tenure, though it would not force them to divest securities they owned before taking office. And while their buying power is limited to index funds, their selling power is left largely unrestricted. Lawmakers would be able to sell individual securities as long as they provided notice at least seven days before the trade.
The legislation does not put limits on other types of investments such as real estate, bonds, or commodities.
Josephs said the bill meaningfully tightens the rules. &#8220;Although it&#8217;s not perfect, it has stricter penalties and forces politicians to buy broader market index funds, which are much harder to insider trade on.”
The bill doesn’t just end with lawmakers; it puts the same restrictions on their spouses and dependent children. Previous efforts have drawn criticism for potentially limiting the careers of the children of the lawmakers. Addressing those concerns, the legislation limits coverage to minor children and adult children still claimed as dependents on a lawmaker’s tax return.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) takes credit for getting this legislation to the floor.
&#8220;After years of insider trading, the discharge petition we brought forward and the members both Democrat and Republican who chose to put their names on it to stop the individual trading of stocks has finally worked,&#8221; the lawmaker said. &#8220;A bill is expected to be passed out of committee as early as this week that will prohibit members of Congress from buying individual stocks.&#8221;
<a href="https://x.com/RepLuna/status/1996664845375078584">Previously</a>, Luna argued that half-measures are insufficient. “The only way to close the loophole is to ban congressional stock trading in its entirety.&#8221;
Along with Luna&#8217;s support, Steil says he has support from House GOP leadership, who have promised to give it a floor vote once the legislation is debated and amendments to the text are considered. Steil looks at the legislation as “an opportunity to regain America’s trust.”
However, the bill is not the only recent effort to attempt to “regain the country’s trust.” In 2020, several senators were accused of trading stocks after private COVID briefings, triggering bipartisan outrage. From 2021 to 2023, multiple bills were introduced, including mandatory blind trusts and outright trading bans, but none became law.
Any proposal would ultimately require lawmakers to vote to restrict their own trading, a hurdle Congress has repeatedly failed to clear. Josephs acknowledged the familiar pattern. 
“We&#8217;ve seen this rodeo before though, so still lots to come on if it&#8217;ll actually pass, but it definitely is a step in the right direction.&#8221;

Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), who once served as House Majority Leader, House Minority Whip, and Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, will be retiring from Congress at the end of his current term. He has been in Congress longer than any other Democrat.
“I have decided not to seek another term in the people’s House,” he said on Thursday on the House floor. “I make this decision with sadness, for I love this House, an institution the framers designed to reflect the will of the American people and to serve as the guardian of their liberty and their democracy.”
Hoyer is 86 years old, and he took office in 1981. He’s been a statewide figure in Maryland politics since 1967, when he first joined the Maryland Senate.
There was an outpouring of messages from some of the biggest voices in Washington following his announcement.
“Steny Hoyer is a model public servant, always keeping the American people front and center,” House Minority Whip Katherine Clark posted amid the news. “[House Democrats] are so grateful for his leadership and wish him and Elaine all the best in their next chapter.”
“Steny Hoyer’s departure is truly the end of an era in House Democratic politics. Steny always chose the more civil path, which is why he earned the mutual respect of his colleagues on both sides of the aisle—as a fair dealer, a respected leader, and an institution within the institution he most loved,” former Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy posted.
Hoyer joins Rep. Nancy Pelosi in not seeking re-election. The two worked together for many years when Pelosi was House Speaker.

Pelosi is 85 years old, and both of their departures will likely create highly competitive Democratic primaries in their deep blue districts. Age is becoming a major factor in the Democratic Party&#8217;s discussions on how to move forward in the Trump era, especially after former President Joe Biden decided to exit the 2024 election last summer.
However, some Republicans said his departure is another indicator of the Democratic Party shifting further to the Left, especially in the wake of Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s election in New York City.
“Democrat Dinosaur Steny Hoyer is the latest domino to fall in the radical socialist takeover of the Democrat Party, just months after he drew a primary challenger from the left,” the National Republican Campaign Committee <a href="https://x.com/NRCC/status/2009284197865652244">posted</a>. “The far-left is pushing out Democrat Dinosaurs to make room for Mamdani&#8217;s socialist minions!”
Hoyer is one of 45 representatives who will be leaving the chamber in 2026, according to Ballotpedia.

Karl asked whether there were already plans in place going into the second half of Trump&#8217;s presidency, specifically whether there were plans for impeachments or investigations — &#8220;or do you deal with him and get something done on all the other issues?&#8221;
Pelosi argued that it would be &#8220;hard to come up with something that [Trump] will sign because of the problem that he is,&#8221; and claimed that Trump would &#8220;hold up&#8221; anything useful that Democrats were able to force through.
But while Jeffries apparently has Pelosi&#8217;s full confidence, he has already run into trouble as the Minority Leader in recent weeks.
CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-catches-hakeem-jeffries-in-straight-up-lie-about-government-shutdown">challenged Jeffries</a> during an interview while Senate Democrats were keeping the government shutdown going, rebuffing his claim that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was refusing to speak with him about bringing the shutdown to an end. Within seconds, it was revealed that Johnson and Jeffries had spoken about ending the shutdown — and that Johnson had initiated the conversation — and that Jeffries had written him off because he was not willing to simply give up and let Democrats have what they wanted.
Jeffries also ran into <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hakeem-jeffries-earns-annoyed-eye-roll-from-cnbc-anchor">several challenges</a> from CNBC hosts who disputed his claims that Republicans were the ones at fault for the government shutdown and that Democrats were offering reasonable solutions to the potential extension of COVID-era Obamacare subsidies.
During a recent press conference, when asked a question about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hakeem-jeffries-trashes-dr-oz-gets-hit-with-brutal-fact-check">Dr. Mehmet Oz</a> — who is currently serving in President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration as the 17th administrator of the Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services, Jeffries trashed the renowned cardio-thoracic surgeon as &#8220;woefully unqualified.&#8221;

Pelosi went on to take potshots at Senate Republicans, blaming them for the fact that neither of Trump&#8217;s impeachments had been able to get across the finish line to conviction in the Senate — or removal from office, which appeared to be the end goal.

WASHINGTON—When Nancy Pelosi announced her retirement, mixed in among the tributes to the former House Speaker were a lot of jokes about stocks.
“‘America’s Greatest Investor’ gets dethroned!!!” conservative radio host Larry Elder <a href="https://x.com/larryelder/status/1987634512323555496?s=20">wrote</a> on X. “[Shout out] to Nancy Pelosi. [I]n Honor of your retirement, what other stocks should I invest in?” another user <a href="https://x.com/kstaura/status/1986495365793620347?s=20">posted</a>.
Pelosi has come under fire in recent years for her prolific stock trading, which, by some estimates, has earned her <a href="https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/nancy-pelosi-paul-pelosi-investments/2025/11/08/id/1233768/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$130 million</a> while in Congress. Although the California Democrat has not been charged with any wrongdoing, her uncanny ability to pick winning stocks has led many to suspect that Pelosi is using insider information to inform her trades.
On Autopilot, an investment app that allows users to model their trades off prominent investors like Warren Buffett, following Pelosi is now the biggest draw, co-founder Chris Josephs told The Daily Wire.
“It makes me sound like I’m faking stuff, but we have all the data,” Josephs said. “We track her filings. She quite literally outperforms hedge funds. There’s just no way around it. She literally just picks good stocks.” Last year, Autopilot estimated Nancy Pelosi made $28 million in profits from trades.
Josephs created Autopilot five years ago to let people follow their friends’ stock portfolios. Eventually, he realized he could grow the app by allowing users to follow successful investors. Once he understood the draw of Pelosi, he launched the Nancy Pelosi Stock Tracker <a href="https://x.com/pelositracker">account</a> on X, which brought the former speaker’s trades to an even wider audience.
Through his work, the world has seen Pelosi make massive gains from investments in big names such as Tesla and Nvidia, and her “perfectly-timed” investments are now part of her legacy. 
 Autopilot now has $1 billion in assets under management. That’s good for business, but bad for America, Josephs says.
“An app with the tagline &#8216;Invest like a Politician&#8217; should not be this popular,” he says.
Josephs says he’s a supporter of the push by Pelosi’s colleagues for a bill to bar lawmakers from trading. The Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments — or PELOSI Act — is at the top of House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) agenda for when the government reopens, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) <a href="https://x.com/RepLuna/status/1987702215964836113?s=20">said</a> earlier this month. “This should have happened long before Speaker Pelosi announced her retirement, but it’s time to ban Congressional stock trading,” Rep. Marianette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) <a href="https://x.com/RepMMM/status/1989010038636077219">added</a>.
“This is not a partisan issue,” Josephs told The Daily Wire. “If we can get this ban through, it literally benefits everybody.”
“There is no net negative for this bill not to go through except for the politicians. It will bring more trust. It’ll bring more transparency. It’ll bring more comfort knowing that these politicians actually pass things that don’t just benefit them,” Josephs added. “The American people need a win.” 
Missouri Republican senator Josh Hawley agrees.
“Members of Congress should be fighting for the people they were elected to serve — not day trading at the expense of their constituents. Americans have seen politician after politician turn a profit using information not available to the general public,” the Missouri Republican told The Daily Wire.

Josephs says restoring trust in government institutions is Autopilot’s number one goal, even though a ban would affect their business. 
“We will welcome the revenue hit. We will welcome the marketing challenge of not having the Pelosi tracker because we think it brings more trust and transparency back into the institution.” 
In preparation, his team has been expanding its portfolio lineup, adding a tracker that allows investors to follow Michael Burry, the hedge fund manager who famously predicted the 2008 housing crisis and was immortalized in “The Big Short.”
Though Josephs favors the ban, he warns that lawmakers need to be careful about how they craft it, lest the legislation backfire. For instance, earlier versions of the stock trading ban required lawmakers to divest any ownership stakes in private companies.
“A lot of people have small businesses that they privately own,” Josephs said. “It’s really hard to sell these companies because the stock is illiquid and you have to find buyers.”
He also warned the legislation could backfire, cutting off some of the nation’s most capable talent from entering politics. 
“I think it would demotivate a major class of successful people from running for office,” he said. 
“Business people are successful. They know how to run things, how to lead, how to hire, how to create and execute strategies. We shouldn’t turn away those potential candidates because they own businesses that could be difficult to sell. They’d have to find the right price, the right buyer — it’s hard.” 
Josephs said he’s hopeful a version of the bill without that requirement will gain traction, beginning with a congressional hearing expected next week. However, he believes real momentum may not come until 2027 when Pelosi retires.
“Nancy’s a prominent figure, she’s very powerful. She ran the Democratic Party for years. My bet is that some lawmakers, especially on the Democratic side, are hesitant to support the ban publicly because of potential setbacks or headwinds from Nancy Pelosi coming after their camp,” he said. 
“The elephant in the room is she’s the face of this whole thing.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s daughter announced she will run for the California State Senate in 2028.
Christine Pelosi made the announcement amid reports that she could potentially run to replace her mother, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pelosi-announces-retirement-trump-torches-her-evil-and-corrupt-legacy">announced</a> last week that she would retire in 2027 after more than 40 years in Washington. Instead, the younger Pelosi will run to replace State Senator Scott Wiener, who is running for Pelosi’s House seat.
“We need leaders who advance our San Francisco values and build power for the people. And that’s the kind of representative I will be in the California State Senate,” Christine Pelosi, 59, said in a message posted to her campaign website. She is an attorney who’s played a role in California politics for years and also worked in the Clinton administration.
“Now, the State Senate election isn’t until 2028. And in the meantime, we all have a lot of work to do together to take our country back, to protect our rights, to attract more good paying jobs, and to build a better quality of life and brighter future for everyone,” she added.
The Daily Wire reached out to Christine Pelosi’s campaign to clarify whether or not she would run sooner if Wiener wins his election and leaves the state senate early. Wiener is considered one of the most <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/meet-scott-wiener-nancy-pelosis-likely-replacement-probably-thinks-youre-a-bigot">radically left-wing</a> lawmakers in the United States. He most recently made waves for a bill attempting to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/potential-pelosi-successor-pushed-a-bill-so-woke-even-the-new-york-times-has-doubts">prevent</a> federal immigration agents from wearing masks while conducting operations.
Wiener launched his campaign before Pelosi announced her retirement. Afterwards, he took to X to praise the former House Speaker.
“Thank you, Madam Speaker. In 1987, I was a closeted teenager terrified of a world that seemed determined to eliminate gay people. You used your platform in Congress to fight AIDS — to fight for people like me.&#8221;
Prior to her announcement, reports circulated that the former speaker would make her choice public following the Proposition 50 vote last Tuesday. Prop. 50 passed overwhelmingly and will shake up the congressional maps in the Golden State to allow for more Democratic-favored seats in hopes of countering Texas&#8217;s redistricting efforts,<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/americas-redistricting-battle-keeps-getting-messier" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> The Daily Wire</a> reported.
“For decades, I’ve cherished the privilege of representing our magnificent city in the United States Congress,” Pelosi said in a video last week directed toward San Francisco residents.
“With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative,” she added.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s former chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, is also running for the seat. The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5593214-pelosi-successors-house-seat/">reported</a> that San Francisco County Supervisor Connie Chan is also being floated as a possible replacement in the deep blue seat.

Topline: The government shutdown has entered its 38th day, as Donald Trump puts new pressure on Republican leaders to invoke the nuclear option to bring an end to the stalemate. 
This is the longest shutdown in history. In the first month, unless they were federal employees or tourists in D.C., most Americans probably did not notice any significant impact on day-to-day life. But that could change by the end of this week with expected delays to air travel.
Air traffic controllers have been working without pay for more than a month now. Some have called in sick, resulting in serious staff shortages that are worsening by the day. Many of those who are on the job have been working long shifts, six days a week. As a result, starting Friday, the FAA will require at least 40 airports to cut back their flight offerings.
In total, the FAA says it’s reducing overall flight capacity by 4% on Friday, and eventually working up to 10% across what it calls “high traffic” areas. Hundreds of thousands of travelers are expected to be impacted.
Compromise coming? Republicans are holding firm, saying they will not agree to a budget that offers billions of taxpayer dollars for healthcare subsidies that will eventually make their way to illegal immigrants.
Democrats on the Hill huddled for a luncheon on Thursday afternoon to discuss their broader strategy. Another vote to potentially reopen the government may be held on Friday, according to a Senate source familiar with negotiations.
The Senate will have a procedural vote on the House-passed continuing resolution, and they’re hoping to amend it with a later end date, along with a three-bill spending package &#8211; otherwise known as a minibus.
The minibus includes three full-year appropriations bills: Agriculture-FDA, Military Construction-VA, and Legislative Branch. There is a chance the Senate Democrats could block it. Republicans need 60 votes, so five Democrats will have to vote with the GOP to reopen the government.

Topline: After several decades in Congress and two stints as the speaker of the House, Democrat Nancy Pelosi has announced that she’s not running for re-election.
The timing of Pelosi’s announcement comes right after California voters approved Proposition 50, the state Democrats&#8217; initiative to redraw California’s congressional map, earlier this week.
It had been reported for weeks that Pelosi was debating whether to run for re-election, so the timing did not surprise many. But Pelosi’s departure will give other leftists in her San Francisco-based district room to launch their campaigns.
The response: President Trump had some strong words for his longtime adversary:
“I thought she was an evil woman who did a poor job, who cost the country a lot in damages and in reputation. I thought she was terrible,” Trump said of the news of Pelosi’s retirement.
President Trump also noted that Pelosi had lost grip of the party over time. Toward the end of her time in Congress, a rift had opened between her and some young progressives in her caucus, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has for some time been the one to navigate those inner-party battles. But Pelosi has still played a major role in shaping the political landscape, not only on Capitol Hill but nationwide as well. For instance, she played a significant role behind the scenes, pressuring then-President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
Who comes next?: It is going to be open season in the Bay Area for her seat. A bevy of people have jumped in or shown interest. California state Senator Scott Wiener, a progressive activist, has jumped in. AOC’s former chief of staff has jumped in, as well.
Pelosi’s daughter, Christine Pelosi, has been floated as a pick. Pelosi may also be looking at a San Francisco County supervisor as her successor. The tech world may also be influential in the race.

Topline: Federal border authorities saw another month of historic lows for unlawful crossings, marking a major accomplishment for the president.
The situation at the border is entirely different from what it was under the Biden administration. October saw the lowest number of illegal crossings on record, with just 30,000. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks told The Daily Wire that the Trump administration is seeing real success at the border. That success shows that despite past talk about Congress needing to act, border security really happened with just a stroke of a pen after Trump was inaugurated the second time.
Banks also said that while the government hasn’t yet achieved operational control at the border, it is much closer than ever before. He noted that several days ago, roughly 100 people crossed the border, a decrease from 10,000 to 12,000 a day under former President Joe Biden.
“Operational control is going to be when we can apprehend anything that enters this country and have zero gotaways, and we&#8217;re closer than we&#8217;ve ever been,” Banks said. “But we are not even close to being done.”
In addition to sealing the border, Border Patrol agents are also working to help ICE with mass deportation raids.
ICE under attack: The Daily Wire spoke with an ICE agent who was the victim of an attack, just one instance in the 1,000% increase in assaults on ICE under the Trump administration.
One agent who spoke with The Daily Wire was recently attacked by an illegal immigrant who had multiple convictions. The suspect had sexually assaulted a child and had numerous DUIs. He also illegally re-entered the United States.
At one point, while ICE officers were attempting to arrest the illegal alien, he tried to run from the officer. The illegal alien tried to escape by attacking the officer with a metal coffee cup that was full of hot coffee. He threw the cup at the officer, splitting the officer’s lip and giving him second-degree burns on his body.

Like Zohran Mamdani, Scott Wiener is the frightening face of a new Democratic Party, in which letting children get transgender surgeries is just the tip of the iceberg. From letting the state take gay kids away from their parents to legalizing pedophilia, Wiener makes even the most radical member of Congress look like a moderate.

If you think men don’t belong in girls’ bathrooms, kids shouldn’t get irreversible sex changes, or cops should stop street prostitution of minors, Scott Wiener probably thinks you’re a bigot.
Indeed, it seems easy to offend Wiener, the San Francisco Democrat running for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D.) seat — and anyone who holds mainstream or conventional views on biology, women’s or parents’ rights, or conservative governance frequently does.
Last month, Wiener found it “<a href="https://x.com/WomenAreReals/status/1982259108108743044" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gross</a>” that San Francisco women turned up at his annual Halloween event to protest his transgender policies. He called the late Charlie Kirk a “vile bigot”<a href="http://sd11.senate.ca.gov/news/senator-wiener-responds-governor-newsoms-comments-transgender-women-sports" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> before</a> and<a href="https://x.com/Scott_Wiener/status/1967604784757940280" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> after</a> the conservative activist was brutally, publicly murdered. Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are also “bigots,&#8221; and Republican diplomat Richard Grenell is a “<a href="https://x.com/Scott_Wiener/status/1673352593530294273" target="_blank" rel="noopener">self-hating gay man.</a>”
The people he approves of are very different — like a<a href="https://www.thesisters.org/roma" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> gay porn-purveying drag queen</a> from the anti-Catholic drag troupe Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, whom<a href="https://abc7news.com/post/sister-roma-state-capitol-protest-the-sisters-of-perpetual-indulgence-honored-in-sacramento/13348438/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> he honored</a> on the California Senate floor as “one of the very best community leaders,” as well as San Francisco’s former soft-on-crime district attorney George Gascón, with whom he has<a href="https://scott-wiener.medium.com/moving-toward-decarceration-191c99638896" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> collaborated</a> on legislation. San Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair, a public nudity-and-group sex festival whose attendees are<a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/1nmtl0l/first_time_at_folsom_street_fair_tips/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> advised</a> to watch out for men peeing on one another, is a “<a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=777812248385874" target="_blank" rel="noopener">beautiful community</a>” that Wiener is “proud to stand up for.”
Wiener’s personal proclivities loom large in the California State Senate, where he’s served since 2016. But they could soon have national relevance: Weiner <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-trans-leftist-launches-bid-for-pelosis-seat-before-she-has-a-chance-to-announce-retirement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> his intent to run for Pelosi’s seat a full two weeks before the veteran California Democratic operator announced she would retire after four decades in Washington.
Pelosi’s retirement will kick off a brutal succession bid in California. The former speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/potential-pelosi-successor-pushed-a-bill-so-woke-even-the-new-york-times-has-doubts?author=Cameron+Arcand&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Potential+Pelosi+Successor+Pushed+A+Bill+So+Woke%2C+Even+The+New+York+Times+Has+Doubts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly favors</a> San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan as her successor.
But Wiener is a real contender — which is bad news for anyone who wants California to keep its policies to itself.
<h3>Justice For Pedophiles</h3>
In the Golden State, Wiener has pushed socially seismic policies that allow male sex offenders live in female prisons if they claim to be transgender, to exempt gay sex offenders from the state registry if the minor is at least 14 and within a 10-year age gap, and to make California a “haven” for out-of-state kids to come for sex changes without their parents’ consent.
And these laws have already wreaked notable havoc. One of the first male inmates to enter California’s female prison is standing trial for allegedly raping two women cellmates — with the judge<a href="https://abc7chicago.com/post/pronoun-use-center-rape-case-involving-former-chowchilla-central-california-womens-facility-prisoner-tremaine-carroll/15696730/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> insisting</a> that the offender be referred to as a woman throughout the proceedings, even though he impregnated at least one female inmate.
Wiener also authored a bill that decriminalized streetwalking because he found anti-loitering laws “discriminatory” against transgender people and “people of color.” The law has effectively blocked cops from taking trafficked minors off the streets and led to an uncontrollable<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/26/magazine/sex-trafficking-girls-la-figueroa.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> spike in sex trafficking</a> of young girls, so much so that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/potential-pelosi-successor-pushed-a-bill-so-woke-even-the-new-york-times-has-doubts?author=Cameron+Arcand&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Potential+Pelosi+Successor+Pushed+A+Bill+So+Woke%2C+Even+The+New+York+Times+Has+Doubts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">even the New York Times</a> finds the law problematic.
But Wiener shows no signs of backing down. His critics say it’s due to the personal nature of his policy stances, which make it impossible to get him to moderate his legislation.
“Since I’ve been going to Sacramento to his legislative hearings, I’ve seen him treat us pretty badly, in public, during sessions,” said Julie Lane, co-founder of Women Are Real, a Bay Area feminist advocacy group that fights gender ideology. “He’ll have long discussions on his committees and as soon as it’s an issue we’re involved with, he’ll leave the room, or get on his phone, or say we’re ‘anti-trans activists.’”
“He won’t listen to us.” 
<h3>“He’s Looked At As A Bully”</h3>
Wiener was born in Philadelphia and grew up in New Jersey, where, after graduating from Harvard Law School, he clerked for the state supreme court justice who wrote a <a href="https://scholar.google.com/scholar_case?case=16151905477157446342" target="_blank" rel="noopener">landmark 1975 decision</a> deeming that a trans-identifying man should be treated as female in a marriage contract and could collect spousal support after his divorce.
He moved to San Francisco in 1997, practicing in a now-dissolved corporate law firm and working in the city attorney’s office before he was elected to the county’s Board of Supervisors.
There, according to one conservative local, he was “popular and moderate and even likable” when he first started.
“What we’ve learned over time is that career politicians start slipping further left year after year. And the farther up the ladder they go, they get even more left,” said Richie Greenberg, a leader of the successful recall campaign of the city’s former left-wing district attorney Chesa Boudin.
Greenberg added that many San Franciscans see Wiener as a “carpetbagger” who went to Sacramento as a state senator to force changes in the city that he couldn’t make as a local lawmaker.
“What he supports is often not agreed on by constituents here, and that’s what gets locals upset,” he said. “He’s looked at as a bully, among other things. He has passed legislation that has stripped away the ability of cities to control things.”
Wiener touts his past post on the national board of directors of the Human Rights Campaign — a radical George Soros-funded organization behind the push to force transgenderism into the medical system and K-12 schools.
He’s done the same thing in the state legislature. Wiener has proved a powerful figure on the California state senate’s public safety committee, where he’s fought to soften criminal penalties and permit open public drug injection sites. Last year, he caused a furor when he opposed making it a felony to purchase 16 and 17-year-olds for sex, stating that “Sending an 18-year-old high school senior to state prison for offering his 17-year-old classmate $20 to fool around isn’t smart criminal justice policy.”
Those who have opposed him in hearing rooms or in the real world say he either ignores them completely or hits them with emotional arguments divorced from reality.
Consider SB 132, his 2020 law that allowed men into female prisons — and which, from its early days, led to a long string of complaints by women that some of their male cellmates were threatening, harassing, and assaulting them.
Amie Ichikawa, founder of the group Woman II Woman, which advocates for women prisoners, said Wiener’s office has answered her about other, unrelated issues but continues to ignore her reports about this law.
“I had gotten a phone call about a rape, and I said, ‘I need to speak to Sen. Wiener about SB 132 and the people taking advantage of it — I can’t take another phone call about another rape,’” Ichikawa said. “I never got any responses to that.”
Later, she went to the state capitol and personally handed Wiener letters from female inmates themselves about SB 132. “The letters were pleading with him and the governor to remember them, said that we’re all survivors of sexual abuse, how can you do this to us?” she said.
He never responded.
Last year, one of Wiener’s Republican State Senate colleagues responded to the growing reports of SB 132’s safety risks by introducing a bill that would have established separate housing for the trans-identifying males and banned convicted sex offenders from moving into women’s prisons at all.
Wiener opposed these proposed reforms during a hearing and claimed the state’s sex offender registry targeted “LGBTQ people.”
“We also know that LGBTQ people have been massively and disproportionately targeted and subjected to being slammed onto the sex offender registry,” Wiener<a href="https://calmatters.digitaldemocracy.org/hearings/258956?t=1479&amp;f=e17600b674ef3117c38ca500eb9270ff" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> said</a> at the time. “That’s the whole history of the sex offender registry.”
<h3>&#8220;Just A Little Bit Off&#8221;</h3>
A longtime Bay Area activist who knows and likes Wiener personally agreed that he fails to look at the true effects of his legislation — although she attributes the reason to the powerful funding groups behind progressive policies he pushes.
“I think he has good intentions,” said Naomi Akers, whom Wiener nominated for the San Francisco Entertainment Commission in 2010. “I think there are a few things that are just a little bit off because I don’t think he’s getting informed from the community, but from a funder-driven activist agenda that is bypassing the community.”
Formerly incarcerated herself, Akers said most former prisoners within the prisoner rights organization she worked with opposed SB 132, but said, “I guess we have to go along with it.”
“I said something about it, and I got fired,” she said.
Akers saw similar issues with Wiener’s SB 357, which legalized “loitering with the intent to commit prostitution.” The law has been<a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/predators-paradise" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> blamed</a> for a spike in sex trafficking and for turning city neighborhoods into dangerous red light districts.
“I think it harms the residents and young women in a community,” she said of the law. “I think it’s unsafe for children and other women walking around. It degrades the safety of a neighborhood and has a detrimental effect on everyone.&#8221;
Parents who have fought Wiener on bills like SB 107, which grants “sanctuary” for gender-confused youth to run away to California for sex-change drugs and procedures, see outright hostility when they voice their opinions in hearing rooms.
<h3>&#8220;Name-Calling Is All He Has.&#8221;</h3>
“Senator Wiener habitually hurls derogatory remarks at us because he cannot engage in a coherent conversation that can justify placing males in females’ spaces,” said Erin Friday, co-lead of Our Duty, a group for parents of gender-confused kids. “He cannot rationalize sex-rejecting interventions, especially the removal of sex organs of children. Devolving to name-calling is all he has.”
In 2023, he co-authored a bill that could have stripped custody from parents who didn’t “affirm” their child’s transgender identity. He blamed public outcry on “a pretty massive misinformation campaign about this bill by the right-wing media,” and claimed opponents wanted “to erase trans kids” and mount “an attack on gay and lesbian kids.”
Yet even as he regularly attacks Californians who oppose him and has consistently voted to lower penalties for violent crime, Wiener has been quick to build up his own defenses — most notably with a co-authored law that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) signed in 2023 to allow politicians to use unlimited donor money for private security.
“Since I was first elected to public office in 2010, we’ve seen a terrifying spike in threats and violence against elected officials — myself included,” he said when the legislation was unveiled. “It’s been harrowing to deal with endless threats on social media; I’ve gotten thousands over the past few years.”
The race to replace Pelosi has yet to take shape, but Wiener seems poised to take the lead. The day he announced his candidacy, he raised more than $730,000 to add to his existing<a href="https://www.fec.gov/data/committee/C00909283/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> $1 million war chest</a>. His top donors include<a href="https://sfstandard.com/2025/10/24/scott-wiener-raises-730k-first-day-campaign-nancy-pelosi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> powerful</a> unions and real estate developers who have backed his laws to override local zoning laws to build dense housing blocs.
Still, Greenberg thinks Wiener’s public manner could hurt him if the race turns competitive.
“He is lashing out,” he said. “It’s like he and Newsom both took petulant pills. I don’t know what happened in the last few months to make them so angry and so off-putting.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is retiring from Congress when her term ends in 2027, she announced Thursday.
The 85-year-old San Francisco Democrat has continued to serve in the House after being the first and only woman to serve as House speaker, holding that position during two separate terms: from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023.
“For decades, I’ve cherished the privilege of representing our magnificent city in the United States Congress,” she said in a video focusing primarily on her constituents, opening with “Dear San Francisco.”

Pelosi’s tumultuous relationship with President Donald Trump featured public showdowns, two impeachments, and a starkly polarized political climate.
President Trump reacted to the news on Thursday morning, saying that &#8220;she was evil&#8221; and &#8220;corrupt,&#8221; according to Fox News. &#8220;The retirement of Nancy Pelosi is a great thing for America.&#8221;
Pelosi&#8217;s retirement could open up a wide Democratic primary in the Bay Area to replace her, and she’s held the seat since 1987.

California state Sen. Scott Wiener, a far-Left progressive, already jumped into the race last month, as the seat is likely to stay deep blue.
“My family escaped fascism in Europe. I never thought the United States would slip into fascism like we’re seeing today,” Wiener said in his launch video. “San Francisco has always been on the right side of history.”
“Join me now, before everything we believe in is lost for good,” he added.
In addition, former Chief of Staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Saikat Chakrabarti, is running for the seat.
Pelosi&#8217;s retirement comes amid a likely fierce 2026 battle for the House, as Republicans currently hold a narrow majority in the Senate.
A mix of reactions to her retirement poured in on social media.
“The GOAT &#8211; thanks for your incredible service, Rep. Pelosi, and for modeling true selfless leadership by stepping back and making space for a new generation of leaders,” Amanda Litman, president of Run for Something, posted to X.
“After serving for nearly 200 years, Nancy Pelosi won’t seek reelection,” conservative commentator Jason Rantz wrote.
Pelosi was expected to announce whether she would retire following Tuesday&#8217;s Proposition 50 vote in California, which she campaigned heavily in favor of. The ballot measure to redraw congressional districts in the state to heavily favor Democrats until 2030 passed by a wide margin. Proponents of the measure said it would counteract Republican redistricting efforts in Texas and other red states, and it is currently facing a federal lawsuit from the California Republican Party.

Pelosi Announces Retirement, Trump Torches Her ‘Evil’ And ‘Corrupt’ Legacy

A California ballot measure that would change the state&#8217;s electoral map passed on Tuesday, paving the way for Democrats to add five congressional seats in the coming midterm elections.
With three-quarters of votes counted, Decision Desk HQ <a href="https://election-night.decisiondeskhq.com/date/2025-11-04/states/California">reports</a> that around 65% of Californians voted for Proposition 50, which “authorizes temporary changes to congressional district maps in response to Texas’s partisan redistricting.” The measure, which California Governor Gavin Newsom, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and other prominent Democrats supported, was slammed as overly partisan by opponents, and heavily funded by supporters. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-health-insurance-giant-quietly-bankrolls-gavin-newsoms-partisan-power-grab" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported that one of the major donors to Newsom&#8217;s ballot measure committee included Blue Shield of California, which donated $500,000.
The California Democratic Party website said that the proposal is “a direct response to a Republican power grab orchestrated by President Trump and state leaders in Texas, who redrew congressional district lines to gain five more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.”
“If Texas had backed off, California would have backed off,” Pelosi posted on X last week. “But Trump insisted on Texas starting this fight — so California will meet this moment and win BIG on Tuesday to defend our health care and our democracy.”
The passage of Proposition 50 is a major win for Newsom, a likely 2028 presidential candidate. It comes just hours after voters across the country elected socialist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdani-time-new-york-city-turns-to-muslim-socialist-zohran-mamdani-as-next-mayor?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Brecca+Stoll&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=MAMDANI+TIME%3A+New+York+City+Turns+To+Muslim+Socialist+Zohran+Mamdani+As+Next+Mayor">Zohran Mamdani</a> mayor of New York City and sent Democrats to the governors mansions in New Jersey and Virginia.
In October, Los Angeles County Republican Chair <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inside-californias-effort-to-fight-back-against-trump-with-redistricting" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Roxanne Hoge</a> explained that the phrasing of the measure made the race competitive.

“If we didn’t have the crazy title in summary that they had, it would be like Prop 36, right. Overwhelming. But given the title and summary we have, it’s neck and neck,” she said at the time. Prop. 36 was a 2024 ballot measure that passed overwhelmingly to fight back against crime in the Golden State.
Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, also opposed the proposition.
“There is such extreme gerrymandering going on that in a state like Massachusetts, it has like 40% of the people voting for Trump, they only — they have zero representatives,&#8221; Schwarzenegger said in a recent<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/arnold-schwarzenegger-terminates-jake-tappers-effort-to-blame-gop-for-gerrymandering" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> CNN interview</a>. &#8220;The Republican Party has zero representatives sent to the House. Think about that.&#8221;
“In New Mexico, 45% of the people voted for Trump and vote Republican, and zero is sent to the House, zero representatives from the Republican Party,”  he added. “So there’s gerrymandering — crazy gerrymandering — going on all over the country, and we wanted to try to stop it in California, and we did stop it in California.”
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), whose seat is expected to be redrawn under Proposition 50 tells The Daily Wire that he&#8217;s &#8220;not going anywhere.&#8221;
&#8220;It was difficult to watch as Gavin Newsom and Sacramento’s special interests set about shredding the state constitution, disenfranchising millions of Californians solely because of how they vote, and delivering what they know is an undeserved advantage to Democrats,&#8221; Issa said. &#8220;But here’s something Newsom and his cronies don’t know: It won’t work.&#8221;
&#8220;Voters get to pick their representatives. Not the other way around,&#8221; the congressman continued, later adding that he&#8217;s &#8220;not quitting on California. And neither should anyone else.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress, called President Donald Trump &#8220;a vile creature,&#8221; adding that he is &#8220;the worst thing on the face of the earth.&#8221;
Pelosi made the comments during a sit-down interview with <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/03/politics/video/nancy-pelosi-california-trump-elex-michaelson-lead-jake-tapper">CNN</a> that aired on Monday. The hostile remarks come as political violence in the United States continues to rise, following two assassination attempts on President Trump in 2024 and the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in September.
&#8220;He&#8217;s just a vile creature, and the worst thing on the face of the earth, but anyway,&#8221; Pelosi said of Trump.
&#8220;You think he&#8217;s the worst thing on the face of the earth?&#8221; asked CNN journalist Elex Michaelson.
&#8220;I do, yeah,&#8221; Pelosi replied.
She defended her harsh words about Trump, arguing that he &#8220;does not honor the Constitution of the United States.&#8221;
&#8220;In fact, he&#8217;s turned the Supreme Court into a rogue court. He&#8217;s abolished the House of Representatives. He&#8217;s chilled the press,&#8221; Pelosi added. &#8220;He&#8217;s scared people who are in our country legally.&#8221;

The 85-year-old congresswoman was not asked to explain how Trump has made the Supreme Court a &#8220;rogue court&#8221; or what she meant by arguing that the House of Representatives has been &#8220;abolished.&#8221; The CNN interview focused on California&#8217;s special election on Tuesday, when voters will cast their ballots on Proposition 50, which aims to redraw the state&#8217;s congressional maps to further favor Democrats.
Democrats are reportedly preparing for Pelosi to announce her retirement from Congress in the coming days. The 20-term congresswoman is expected to address her future plans after Tuesday&#8217;s election, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/democrats-brace-nancy-pelosi-possible-retirement-rcna241336">reported</a>. Asked about her future political plans, Pelosi said she&#8217;s more concerned about getting the Democratic Party back in power and fighting the &#8220;poison of the Trump administration.&#8221;
&#8220;For me, it&#8217;s just a question about one thing: winning the House for the Democrats, and that&#8217;s what we&#8217;re doing with Proposition 50. It&#8217;s the first step,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And then we go from there to winning. And the only reason I&#8217;m in Congress this term is to win the House for the Democrats, to protect us from the poison of the Trump administration.&#8221;
Republicans have recently addressed the rise in political violence coming from the Left and have urged their Democratic colleagues to tone down their rhetoric on Trump and conservatives. During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week, committee chair Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) called out &#8220;left-wing extremism,&#8221; arguing that for the past 15 months, political violence “has been a constant fact of American life.”
Daily Wire host Michael Knowles <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-problem-lies-on-the-left-michael-knowles-brings-the-heat-to-senate-political-violence-hearing">testified</a> during the hearing and blasted Democrats for attempting to include those on the Right as main drivers of political violence.
&#8220;This seems to me confusing and misbegotten as one cannot solve a problem if one does not know where the problem lies,&#8221; Knowles said, adding, &#8220;In light of the murder of my friend Charlie Kirk by a leftist assassin, I am gratified to see that at least some members of our federal legislature are now confronting the consistent and escalating pattern of left-wing terrorism in the country.&#8221;
Pelosi has also been affected by political violence, when her husband, Paul, was attacked by a hammer-wielding man in 2022. The attacker, David DePape, <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/the-man-accused-of-attacking-paul-pelosi-with-a-hammer-says-he-wanted-to-end-corruption#:~:text=to%2Dend%2Dcorruption-,Man%20accused%20of%20attacking%20Paul%20Pelosi%20with%20a%20hammer%20testifies,the%20early%20hours%20of%20Oct.">espoused</a> right-wing conspiracy theories and testified that he wanted to interrogate Pelosi and get her to admit to corruption. President Trump called the attack on Paul Pelosi a &#8220;sad situation,&#8221; but also made light of the incident.
&#8220;Pelosi has a big wall wrapped around her house, but of course, it didn&#8217;t help too much with the problem she had, did it?&#8221; Trump said during a 2024 rally.
