A Minneapolis landowner whose property has been taken over by vagrants is speaking out against Minnesota Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-walz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Walz</a> and his progressive policies.
Arne, a real estate broker in Minneapolis, spoke with Daily Wire senior editor Cabot Phillips in a segment that aired on Daily Wire’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday. Phillips traveled to Minnesota several weeks ago to meet with Arne and tour one of his properties, an empty lot in a Minneapolis neighborhood that had been taken over by homeless.
“Basically after, you know, the pandemic and the George Floyd, you know, riots, protests – whatever you want to call them – that&#8217;s when everything really changed,” Arne said.
“I was blocks away from where George Floyd was killed and we experienced everything that was going on for those 3-4 days when the city was burning,” he continued. “It was just, I don&#8217;t know, there was a sense of, like, they were just letting it happen for some reason.”
Rioting over George Floyd caused massive destruction across the Twin Cities area, <a href="https://www.startribune.com/lake-street-fights-on-minneapolis-george-floyd-riot/600174854" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resulting</a> in $500 million worth of damage to Minneapolis, according to one estimate by the Lake Street Council. Law enforcement lost control of the unrest as crowds of rioters looted stores and set fire to property, <a href="https://www.police1.com/george-floyd-protest/articles/man-sentenced-to-4-years-for-minneapolis-police-station-fire-nKd5RboPPFKRy53f/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">including</a> torching the Minneapolis Third Precinct police headquarters.
“Why didn&#8217;t they just stop it? They&#8217;re not being affected by this because they&#8217;re – you know, if this was the governor&#8217;s mansion, you think they would let this happen? No,” Arne said, adding, “They&#8217;re not going to allow it if it&#8217;s over there, you know, on one of their properties, but they&#8217;re allowing it to happen here. So, am I angry? Yes, absolutely.”

Following the rampant chaos and destruction, law enforcement still refuse to crack down on some destructive behaviors, such as drug use and squatting. The damage done to the communities in the Twin Cities area has prompted otherwise nonpolitical people to speak out, though many more who are upset about the situation stay quiet, Arne said.
“I would like the city to just clean this up and everybody – I mean, I&#8217;m speaking for, not just me, I&#8217;m speaking for other people who, on this block, that are scared to speak out. I know dozens of people who feel the same way about this that I do and – I don&#8217;t know. It&#8217;s just, people are tired of it, and so that&#8217;s what I want to see happen. I want them to change it,” Arne said.

On the night of Wednesday May 27, 2020, BLM supporters held a racial justice protest at a Target store near the Third Precinct police station in Minneapolis. After they completely ransacked the Target, the mob began surrounding the police station itself. Everyone in the city knew what was about to happen: Either the authorities would defend the police station, or they&#8217;d let it burn.
At 6:23 p.m, the mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, received an urgent phone call from the chief of police. He preferred to defend the police station, and he told Frey that because the riot was now so large and out of control, the National Guard would be required to do so.
Five minutes later, the mayor&#8217;s spokesman texted several other employees in the mayor&#8217;s office. He wrote: &#8220;Mayor just came out and said the chief wants him to call in the national guard for help at Third Precinct. Mayor appears intent on doing.&#8221; Frey&#8217;s policy director quickly added: &#8220;He called the governor just now.&#8221;
That was a reference to the governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, who was the only one in the state with the authority to deploy the National Guard. Frey passed along the police chief&#8217;s message. And before midnight, Frey made his own explicit request to Walz for the deployment of the National Guard. 
Keep in mind, Frey is about as far-Left as they come. He&#8217;s the kind of mayor who doesn&#8217;t resist a single opportunity to pander on the basis of identity politics. He would go on a few days later to performatively weep while kneeling at George Floyd’s golden casket. But in this case, letting a police station burn was just too much, even for Frey.
Yet Walz refused to grant Frey&#8217;s request. As the mayor&#8217;s spokesperson texted later in the evening: &#8220;Walz was hesitating.&#8221;
Around 11:00 a.m. the next morning, as reported by the Star Tribune, Frey&#8217;s office put their request for the National Guard in writing, citing injuries to first responders as well as, &#8220;widespread looting and arson.&#8221; Frey wrote that &#8220;the ongoing situation is well-beyond the capability of our police and fire departments to respond.&#8221; 
But Walz hesitated once again. His daughter, a Left-wing activist, posted on social media that the National Guard hadn&#8217;t been deployed, which emboldened the rioters further. By the time the governor finally activated the National Guard at 2:30 p.m., the police station had already been evacuated. Rioters stormed in and lit the building on fire.
The police precinct was the most prominent of the 164 arson attacks that took place in Minneapolis from May 27 to May 30 of 2020. As Tim Walz kept the National Guard away from the city, rioters used Molotov cocktails to indiscriminately torch small business, cars, and government buildings.

All of this has been public knowledge for a while now. Walz himself has called his response to the riots an &#8220;abject failure.&#8221; But that doesn&#8217;t explain why he let Minneapolis burn for several days. For years, Walz&#8217;s defenders have argued that the situation at the police station was somehow ambiguous, or that he was somehow unaware of what was happening all over Minneapolis — even though it was being broadcast live on national television.
But there&#8217;s another explanation that actually makes sense. And it&#8217;s that Walz, like so many other Left-wing elites, welcomed the violence. He wanted Minneapolis and the rest of the country to burn. At a deeply personal level, he enjoyed all the death and destruction. 
That was certainly the view of the First Lady of Minnesota, Gwen Walz. We know that because she admitted it. In an interview, Gwen Walz says she kept her windows open as long as possible during the riots in order to savor the smell of the burning tires. It was a profound moment for her, because no one was burning down anything she owned. She has bodyguards to prevent that sort of thing. So only the plebs suffered. And as they suffered, Gwen Walz did everything but pull out a fiddle. Watch:

She didn&#8217;t call her husband and ask him why he was allowing arson in the street outside her window. She didn&#8217;t display any concern for the people who were losing their businesses and their livelihoods. Instead, she went with the single most psychotic option available, which was to revel in the suffering and destruction of other people.
And apparently, the media was fine with this response. There was no national outcry after this interview. When Melania Trump wore a light-hearted jacket during the fake &#8220;kids in cages&#8221; controversy, it was a five-day news cycle. Imagine if she had done something like this. Imagine if she said she rolled down her window so she could take in the sounds of all the migrant children crying. That&#8217;s effectively what we&#8217;re seeing here.

And we know Tim Walz endorsed this sentiment, for a couple of reasons. It&#8217;s not just that he stalled the deployment of the National Guard, or that he never condemned his wife&#8217;s comments. Walz came out and said directly that the riots were a justifiable reaction to America&#8217;s failure to fully embrace the principles of DEI. So all those businesses had it coming. The people who died during the riots had it coming too. The tens of millions of dollars of property damage in Minnesota was all worth it, according to Tim Walz. Watch:

&#8220;A society that does not put equity and inclusion first will come to this result.&#8221; In other words, if you don&#8217;t fully support DEI, the government will allow mobs to destroy your business and maybe kill you. And you&#8217;ll deserve whatever happens to you.
When I covered the riots in the UK, I made the point that leaders who fail to enforce the law — say, by opening the borders — shouldn&#8217;t be surprised when lawlessness eventually breaks out. That doesn&#8217;t make lawlessness good, but it does make it understandable in that context.
What Tim Walz is saying is very different. He&#8217;s saying that leaders should embrace lawlessness and destruction as a means of compelling people to support his party&#8217;s agenda. He doesn&#8217;t regret violence. He wants more of it. Terror can be an effective motivator in the voting booth. Keep in mind, Tim Walz said all of this while Derek Chauvin was supposedly receiving a &#8220;fair trial&#8221; in his state. That jury knew very well that, unless they found some reason to convict Chauvin, the city would burn again.
This is how things are done in Minneapolis. And by picking Tim Walz over a more moderate option like Josh Shapiro, Kamala Harris has signaled very clearly that she wants the Minneapolis model of governance to go nationwide. This is a model where voters are instructed to endorse Democrats&#8217; ideology, or they&#8217;ll lose everything.
That includes potentially their children. Last year, Walz signed a law that encourages children to flee from their parents in order to obtain puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and genital surgeries. The law also allows the state to use these procedures as a means to remove children from the custody of their parents.

<blockquote>Tim Walz signed a bill in April 2023 that made his state a sanctuary for child sex-changes, promoting tourism for such radical medical interventions in defiance of states that restrict them. &#8230; Dubbed the Trans Refuge Bill by supporters, the law grants legal protection to children who travel to Minnesota for so-called gender affirming care, including puberty blockers, reconstructive genital surgery, and hormone therapy, as well as the medical practitioners who provide it. &#8230; The law makes seeking gender-transition procedures for minors a factor in some assessments for whether a Minnesota court has jurisdiction to make an initial determination in child-custody cases.</blockquote>
This kind of law is so extreme that even California governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill last year which would have required custody courts to consider whether parents are &#8220;affirming&#8221; the gender delusions of their children. But Tim Walz has no problem with tearing apart families on this basis. In fact, he wants these broken families to come to Minnesota. 
In my documentary &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/what-is-a-woman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">What is a Woman?</a>&#8221; I spoke to a Canadian father who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jailed-canadian-father-still-fighting-childs-gender-transition" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lost custody</a> of his child after a hospital began administering cross-sex hormones to his daughter without his consent. At the time it seemed like a story that you&#8217;d only hear about in Canada. Tim Walz now wants to make that the reality in all 50 states.
And because projection is the Democrats&#8217; platform at this point, Tim Walz will accuse conservatives of hating &#8220;freedom&#8221; while he works to rip children away from their parents. This is from his big announcement rally yesterday in Pennsylvania. Watch:

What Walz is counting on is that no one in the media will ask him an adversarial question in the next three months. That&#8217;s really the only explanation for this. He&#8217;s hoping he&#8217;ll get the same treatment from the press as Kamala Harris. And frankly that&#8217;s probably a safe assumption at this point.
There is nothing about Walz&#8217;s tenure as governor that suggests, even remotely, that he would allow people to mind their own business about anything. During COVID, Walz established a Soviet-style &#8220;stay at home&#8221; hotline to allow people to snitch on their neighbors for violating his lockdown rules. Hundreds of people called in to report that they saw people who weren&#8217;t standing six feet apart, or who kept their mask off at a restaurant even though they weren&#8217;t mid-bite.

Customers are coming and saying, I&#8217;m bored and need to get out of the house. They buy lottery tickets, a candy bar, a soda etc; those items are not essential. And the traffic flow is the same as it was a month ago. &#8230; The stay at home order is not being followed and needs to be stricter.</blockquote>

This is the kind of antisocial behavior that Tim Walz encouraged just a few years ago in Minnesota. He didn&#8217;t want to send rioters to jail. But he did want to encourage people to rat on their neighbors so that they&#8217;d face hefty fines and potentially a jail sentence for disobeying his lockdown orders, which had no scientific basis whatsoever. And now he&#8217;s going to lecture conservatives about freedom, because he&#8217;s betting that facts don&#8217;t matter anymore. His base wants to hear lies and distortions, so that&#8217;s what he&#8217;ll deliver.
And these are not subtle lies and distortions. At the same rally, Walz invoked the JD Vance &#8220;couch&#8221; meme, which is based on a fake passage from JD Vance&#8217;s book “Hillbilly Elegy” that was uploaded by a random Twitter user a few weeks ago. This is now an attack line that Walz used at his rally — a fabricated page from someone on the internet that has no basis in reality. And the base loved it. Watch:

After watching that clip, and the other ones I&#8217;ve showed, there&#8217;s not really a point in going into any further detail about Walz&#8217;s policies or life story.
Yes, he says he&#8217;s proud of his role in passing Obamacare, which has tripled the average family&#8217;s health insurance premium.
Yes, the very first executive order that Tim Walz signed created something called a &#8220;DEI council&#8221; that would address the problem of &#8220;whiteness.&#8221;
Yes, he was in the military, at least until he abandoned his unit before they deployed to Iraq.
Yes, he wants to give illegals a ladder to climb the border wall, and then he wants to give them driver&#8217;s licenses when they get here. He also supports abortion until the moment of birth and putting tampons in the boy&#8217;s bathroom at school. Oh, and he thinks that one person&#8217;s socialism is another person&#8217;s neighborliness.
But it&#8217;s not even necessary to go into detail about any of that, because they&#8217;re all exactly what you&#8217;d expect from a stock far-Left-wing politician. More to the point, Kamala Harris didn&#8217;t select Tim Walz to govern anything. She selected him because she thought he&#8217;d help him win the election. And she did that because of the belief — pushed by Kamala Harris yesterday, and by the media as well — that Walz is a down-to-earth, blue-collar guy because he knows how to fix a car and likes to hunt.
And this is maybe the most flagrant misrepresentation of all. Blue-collar people aren’t impressed with any of that stuff. That&#8217;s obvious to anyone who&#8217;s grown up around working-class families, or anyone who&#8217;s turned on a television since 2016. Donald Trump is about as non-blue collar as it gets. He probably hasn’t driven a car in 40 years, much less fixed one. He wouldn’t know how to hunt for deer if his life depended on it. But blue-collar voters love him.
That’s because Donald Trump projects an image of someone who loves his country and cares about Americans. Walz, on the other hand, let his middle-class communities burn while his wife enjoyed the smell from the window of their mansion. That is a contrast that Kamala Harris has just embraced.
And if there are still a critical mass of voters in this country who still want to live in America, instead of burning it down, it&#8217;s a decision that will cost Kamala Harris the White House in November.

The wife of Democrat VP-pick Tim Walz said during an interview in 2020 that she kept her windows open for as long as she could so she could smell the burning of tires rioters set on fire during the Minneapolis-area riots in response to the death of George Floyd.
During the 2020 riots, cities like Minneapolis burned, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/riots-looting-that-followed-george-floyds-death-could-cost-2-billion-most-expensive-incident-in-insurance-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">costing</a> hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. Gov. Walz has been criticized for his slow response to the destruction and violence by the left-wing protesters.
&#8220;We had more sleepless nights during the riots,&#8221; Gwen Walz <a href="https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/minnesota-first-lady-gwen-walz-opens-up-about-covid-19-decisions-aftermath-of-george-floyds-death/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> an ABC News affiliate back in July 2020. &#8220;I could smell the burning tires, and that was a very real thing. I kept the windows open as long as I could because I felt like that was such a touchstone of what was happening.&#8221;
The clip of Gwen&#8217;s comments has gone viral in the wake of VP Kamala Harris choosing Walz as her running mate.

The ashes are symbolic of decades and generations of pain, of anguish unheard.&#8221;
He added that he received a call from a state senator who told him that her district was “on fire, no police, no firefighters, no social control, constituents locked in houses wondering what they were going to do.”
“That is an abject failure that cannot happen,” Walz said

Kamala Harris&#8217;s pick as her vice-presidential candidate is Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
I am delighted.
There are many reasons I am pleased about this, the biggest being that the mask is off.
Harris has been attempting to present herself as a moderate. She keeps switching all of her positions. She sends out her surrogates to pretend she doesn&#8217;t hold the positions now that she held four years ago.
But now, we can openly see that is false. All she wants is to please her radical base. She is absolutely ignoring the moderate votes she needs to win in order to please a base of people who are radical. She has opened herself up wide to every attack on her radicalism by picking Walz.
There was another pick that was available, someone everyone expected she would pick: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
Pennsylvania has 18 electoral votes. Shapiro has a 61% approval rating in Pennsylvania. It would have been a very easy pick — a super, super, simple pick — for Kamala Harris.
We know why she didn&#8217;t pick Shapiro: because he&#8217;s a Jew.
It&#8217;s that simple. Everyone knows this. Democrats know this. Republicans know this.

Before we even get to the insanity of picking Tim Walz, understanding the insanity of not picking Shapiro is critical. I’m delighted today because Shapiro is a very talented politician; he has portrayed himself successfully in Pennsylvania, a purple state, as a moderate, getting the approval of six in 10 voters in a swing state.
But Harris overlooked him because she didn&#8217;t want to anger her pro-Hamas base. It is that simple. She has too many radicals in her base who don&#8217;t want the Jew. Shapiro is a semi-observant Jew who had expressed his Zionist bona fides, and this was very bad. This could not be accepted.
In fact, in expectation of possibly being picked by Harris, Shapiro had already started to moderate his positions on Israel in an attempt to please the Democrats’ pro-Hamas base. Back when he was 20, he wrote a piece that said something perfectly obvious: There would be no Palestinian state because the Palestinians are far too radicalized and want the destruction of the state of Israel.
But over the course of the last three days, he tried to walk that back. He basically tried to say, “Well, I don&#8217;t believe that anymore. I believe in a two-state solution.”
Even some Democrats admitted Harris didn’t pick Shapiro because he is a Jew. Jared Moskowitz from Florida <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4812605-jewish-democrats-josh-shapiro/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CJosh's%20position%20on%20Israel%20is,D%2DFla.)%20said." target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>, “Josh&#8217;s position on Israel is almost identical to everybody else, but he&#8217;s being held to a different standard. So you have to ask yourself why.”
Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Florida, <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4813622-speaker-johnson-shapiro-overlooked-harris/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CIt%20has%20been%20very%20noticeable,before%20Harris's%20pick%20became%20public." target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, “It has been very noticeable that of all of the people that she is carefully considering, that the only Jewish candidate is getting excruciating, very specific scrutiny, particularly around his positions on Israel.”
House Democrat Jake Auchincloss from Massachusetts <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4811297-shapiro-vp-criticism-undercurrent-antisemitism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> it was pretty obvious that Democrats were attacking Shapiro based on the fact he is a Jew.
This is great. And the reason it&#8217;s great is because clarity is a good thing. I&#8217;m very pleased by the fact the Democratic Party has been so clear on this: They can have somebody who is at least titularly pro-Israel in Tim Walz — so long as he’s not a Jew.
It&#8217;s the Jew from the swing state — who Harris needs to win and is currently running in a dead heat with Trump — who could not be picked for one simple reason.
Much is unveiled by the Tim Walz pick. Number one, the Democrats can&#8217;t have a Jew. Number two, Harris is a full-scale radical.
Remember, Walz is Bernie Sanders from Minnesota. He&#8217;s Bernie Sanders with the Fargo accent. A radical leftist.
The pick is mind-bogglingly stupid; that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m so excited about it. The first rule of a vice presidential pick is do-no-harm — to yourself. Harris also could have picked a governor from a popular swing state, such as Governor Gretchen Whitmer in Michigan.
Kamala Harris is always Kamala Harris. Obnoxious, arrogant, radical, stupid. This is a stupid campaign move, a full-scale, full-stop, stupid campaign move by Kamala Harris.
Ask me if anti-Semitism is bad, and the answer is yes. But you know what is worse?
Lies. 
And it is a lie that the Democratic Party is not full-scale comfortable with anti-Semitism. It is a lie that Kamala Harris is a moderate.

Here’s the Democratic ticket: a woman who favored bailing out Black Lives Matter rioters and a governor who let those Black Lives Matter rioters completely wreck Minneapolis.
Walz acknowledged the “abject failure” of his response to the violent protests that burned down the city of Minneapolis. The city looked like a war zone because Walz, among other Democratic politicians in the state of Minnesota, decided it was absolutely necessary to allow rioters to burn down streets, loot stores, shoot people in the name of racial justice, take over police stations, and tear apart the city.
He <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/walz-shifted-blame-to-city-leaders-for-abject-failure-in-response-to-2020-minneapolis-riots" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, “Minneapolis and St. Paul are on fire. The fire is still smoldering in our streets. The ashes are symbolic of decades and generations of pain, of anguish unheard.”
Poetic language about people burning down the biggest city in his state. Well done, Tim Walz.
He <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/watch-live-minnesota-gov-tim-walz-holds-presser-amid-protests-over-george-floyd-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">intoned</a>, “These are things that have been brewing in this country for 400 years.” He reluctantly said, “We can&#8217;t have the looting and the recklessness,” but he didn’t send the National Guard until the city had basically been taken over and destroyed.
Walz wants driver&#8217;s licenses for illegal immigrants in the state of Minnesota. He wants restoration of voting rights for felons.
You cannot find a person who is more radical than Tim Walz.
One week ago, on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/simping-for-kamala" target="_blank" rel="noopener">White Dudes for Harris</a> Zoom call, Walz <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2024/08/06/gov_tim_walz_on_white_dudes_for_kamala_harris_call_one_persons_socialism_is_another_persons_neighborliness.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, “One person’s socialism is another person&#8217;s neighborliness.”
That would come as a shock to anyone who used to live in Cuba, where socialism was another word for “your neighbor comes and shoots you in the face.” 
The fact that Harris picked Walz is such a gift to Trump.
He should run ads with Harris and Walz’s records all day long.
They are the most radical ticket in American history — by far.

In the spring of 2020, after people had taken to the streets in Minneapolis, Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz admitted there was an &#8220;abject failure&#8221; in the response to the rioters who burned businesses and a police precinct.
Walz, now the Democrats&#8217; 2024 vice presidential nominee, said during a press conference addressing the riots, &#8220;Minneapolis and St. Paul are on fire. The fire is still smoldering in our streets. The ashes are symbolic of decades and generations of pain, of anguish unheard,&#8221; PBS <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/watch-live-minnesota-gov-tim-walz-holds-presser-amid-protests-over-george-floyd-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. He added that he received a call from a state senator who told him that her district was &#8220;on fire, no police, no firefighters, no social control, constituents locked in houses wondering what they were going to do.&#8221;
&#8220;That is an abject failure that cannot happen,&#8221; Walz added.
The governor, who had the authority to activate the National Guard, then shifted the responsibility to city leaders to quell the riots, saying requests for assistance from city leaders &#8220;never came.&#8221; After a Minneapolis police precinct was burning, Walz finally stepped in and took action, according to PBS.
The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/06/us/tim-walz-george-floyd-criticism.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Minneapolis Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey requested assistance from Walz two days after Floyd&#8217;s death as protests turned violent. The Minneapolis police chief also sent a written request to Walz for 600 National Guard troops hours after Frey reached out to the governor. However, it wasn&#8217;t until the next afternoon that the Minnesota governor issued an executive order authorizing the National Guard to be dispatched to Minneapolis.

“Governor Walz had the ability and duty to use force and law enforcement to stop criminal violence, but he did not,” stated a 2020 Minnesota State Senate report on the response to the riots. “Governor Walz was not willing to do what was necessary to stop the rioting right away because he was having a philosophical debate about whether the use of force should be used to stop violence.”
Minneapolis officials <a href="https://www.courthousenews.com/minneapolis-estimates-protest-damages-at-55-million/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">estimated</a> the rioting and looting in 2020 cost the city around $55 million in damages. Rioters set fire to at least 220 buildings following George Floyd&#8217;s death in police custody. Estimates in 2021, a year after the riots, put the total cost of damage to both Minneapolis and St. Paul at <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/businesses-year-after-floyd-1596610" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$500 million</a>, according to the Star Tribune. Many of the businesses damaged in the riots remained closed a year after the unrest.

A Minnesota school district is hiring a new assistant superintendent who will be expected to &#8220;examine&#8221; the presence of “Whiteness.”
St. Louis Park Public Schools just outside Minneapolis <a href="https://slpschools.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=591" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> the job description for the position on the district&#8217;s job board.
The job, with a salary between $134,141 and $201,212, will focus specifically on injecting &#8220;anti-racism&#8221; into the district&#8217;s culture.
&#8220;[T]he Assistant Superintendent proactively supports the Superintendent to create and communicate anti-racist structures and systems, works to interrupt systems of oppression, and serves as a role model for culturally relevant pedagogy,&#8221; reads the job description.
The posting says the person who fills the role will be &#8220;unwaveringly committed to anti-racist actions&#8221; and will have a &#8220;clear personal commitment to advancing racial equity.&#8221;
It continues, &#8220;They prioritize their own racial equity journey and set clear expectations for themselves and others in their pursuit of racial equity goals.&#8221;
The new assistant superintendent will also &#8220;use data to adapt and sustain their efforts towards racial equity.&#8221;
&#8220;They actively listen for both spoken and unspoken racial concerns, seek multiple racial perspectives, examine the presence and role of &#8216;Whiteness&#8217; in systems and structures, and are open to feedback regarding their own racial blind spots,&#8221; the job posting reads.
Meanwhile, this person also &#8220;[f]osters joy and cultivates a culture of accountability for systemic racial equity transformation.&#8221;
Just last week, the district hired a new superintendent, Dr. Carla Hines, who appears to be focused on racial equity.
&#8220;Her educational leadership, dedication to student academic success, and vision for racial equity transformation is impressive and I&#8217;m confident she&#8217;ll lead our district with integrity and passion, advancing our strategic plan,” <a href="https://www.slpschools.org/default-board-post-page/~board/district/post/dr-hines-selected-for-st-louis-park-public-schools-superintendent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> school board chairman Colin Cox in announcing Hines as superintendent.
The St. Louis Park district <a href="https://www.usnews.com/education/k12/minnesota/districts/st-louis-park-public-school-dist-103888" target="_blank" rel="noopener">serves</a> more than 4,500 students at nine schools. Just over half the students are white, while about 20% are black, nearly 13% are Hispanic, and the rest are mixed race, Asian, or another minority.
About 18% of students are economically disadvantaged, and 8% are still learning English.

Only about 34% of high schoolers in the district are proficient in math, and 58% are proficient in reading. Among middle schoolers, 37% are proficient in math, and 52% are proficient in reading.
In recent years, parents in districts across the country have spoken out against critical race theory (CRT) and other race-related curriculum content they find divisive and objectionable for children.
In 2022, the Florida education board <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/federal-judge-suspends-stop-woke-act-in-florida">banned</a> public schools from teaching CRT. Some individual districts, such as Temecula Valley Unified School District in California, have banned elements of CRT.

Two 27-year-old police officers and a paramedic were shot and killed in Burnsville, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis, early Sunday morning by a suspect who was killed during the shootout.
Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge were called to a private home at roughly 2 a.m. Roughly three hours later firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth, 40, arrived; soon after that gunfire erupted; all three were killed. Seven children between the ages of 2 to 15 were barricaded inside with the suspect, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/burnsville-incident-with-weapons-law-enforcement-responds/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Police had “spent quite a bit of time negotiating with this individual,” Superintendent Drew Evans with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension stated. Police officer Sgt. Adam Medlicott was shot but was expected to survive. At 8 a.m the suspect was reported dead.
“Several officers did return fire,” Evans said. “I will note this individual had several guns and large amounts of ammunition.”
“Today, three members of our team made the ultimate sacrifice for this community. They are heroes,” Burnsville Police Chief Tanya Schwartz said. “Every day we pray that they go home to their families. And today that&#8217;s not happening. We&#8217;re heartbroken. We are going to need time to be together. Our families need time to grieve.”
Officer Elmstrand&#8217;s wife, Cindy Elmstrand-Castruita, who had known him since kindergarten and shared their 5-month-old and 2-year-old together, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/wife-of-fallen-burnsville-police-officer-paul-elmstrand-he-had-to-do-what-he-thought-was-right/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, “He was the most generous, loving, patient person I&#8217;ve ever known. He could have a conversation with anyone and make them feel seen. He would drop everything to help someone who was in need, whether it be family, friend or someone on the street.”
“He was a very levelheaded person,” she continued. “He loved his job. He saw horrible things but never once did he say, would he come home complaining.”

On Sunday, morning, before she had received news of her husband’s death, she received a text from a friend expressing sorrow. She said she thought it was some sort of mistake, but then, “I looked out my bedroom window and saw a squad car out there. I knew. That&#8217;s when I knew he was gone.&#8221;
“I think he just had to be the hero. He had to do what he thought was right to protect those little lives even if it meant putting his at risk and it breaks my heart because now he&#8217;s gone. But I know that he thought what he did was right,” she concluded.

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/minneapolis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Minneapolis</a> area school district says it will let families opt out of LGBT curriculum materials after several Muslim families threatened to sue.
St. Louis Park Public School District just west of Minneapolis said it will allow families to opt their kids out of reading books with LGBT themes.
Somali Muslim families had <a href="https://sahanjournal.com/education/st-louis-park-somali-families-receive-opt-outs-lgbtq-books/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatened</a> to sue the district, alleging that not allowing families to opt out potentially violates the Constitution and state law.
On November 2, the families&#8217; attorneys sent the district a letter explaining Islamic teachings around gender and sexuality and outlining the timeline of parents&#8217; complaints about the LGBT books.
Some of the families&#8217; elementary school children had been exposed to LGBT characters in picture books, which caused &#8220;significant confusion and distress,&#8221; the families&#8217; letter <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/st-louis-park-schools-says-parents-can-opt-students-out-of-lgbtq-books/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Back in October, several St. Louis Park elementary schools <a href="https://sahanjournal.com/education/st-louis-park-somali-families-receive-opt-outs-lgbtq-books/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> introduced a number of LGBT books, &#8220;Our Subway Baby,&#8221; which is about two men who adopt a baby, &#8220;My Shadow Is Pink,&#8221; which is about a boy who wears dresses, and “Ho’onani: Hula Warrior,” which is about a young Hawaiian girl who wants to lead a boys hula team.
Parents claimed that they had requested their children be opted out of reading these books, but two elementary school principals refused.
In a statement, the St. Louis Park district said that it has &#8220;always complied with the state law regarding parents’ statutory right to opt out of instructional materials, and we will continue to do so.&#8221;
However, classroom discussions are not subject to opt-outs because they &#8220;do not constitute instructional materials,&#8221; the district said.
The district added that it will not conduct a review &#8220;on behalf of any families or attempt to determine what materials may be considered objectionable.&#8221;

“Opt-outs based on representation of protected classes do not uphold our values of creating safe and inclusive learning and working environments in our schools,” the statement continued. “However, because it is required within state law, any change would need to happen with the involvement of state lawmakers.”
Minnesota <a href="https://sahanjournal.com/education/st-louis-park-somali-families-receive-opt-outs-lgbtq-books/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">requires</a> every school district to have a procedure for parents to review instructional materials. If a parent objects to material, the district must “make reasonable arrangements with school personnel for alternative instruction.”
The families who had complained hailed the statement as a win.
“We think this is a win for religious freedom for people of all faiths, without even having to go to court,” <a href="https://sahanjournal.com/education/st-louis-park-somali-families-receive-opt-outs-lgbtq-books/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Kayla Toney, an attorney with First Liberty Institute, which represented the families.
Hodan Hassan, a mother with four children in the district, said she was happy with the district&#8217;s move.
“We came to America for religious freedom in the Constitution, and so our kids will have a great opportunity,” Hodan <a href="https://sahanjournal.com/education/st-louis-park-somali-families-receive-opt-outs-lgbtq-books/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the Sahan Journal.
“By granting us and other families the opportunity to opt out of teaching that violates our deeply held religious beliefs, families are able to raise their children according to the principle that they value the most,” the mother said.

A parental rights organization has filed a civil rights complaint against a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/minnesota" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Minnesota</a> high school because the school has a student council exclusively for “Indigenous” students.
The complaint against the Minneapolis-area school, filed by Parents Defending Education with the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, <a href="https://defendinged.org/complaints/ocr-complaint-burnsville-high-school/">alleges</a> that Burnsville High School is violating federal civil rights laws through a student council that is only open to American Indian/Alaska Native students.
“PDE makes this complaint as an interested third-party organization with members who are parents of school children throughout the country. PDE and its members oppose discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, and political indoctrination in America’s schools. Burnsville High School is offering programming to affinity groups that is not open to all students,” a copy of the complaint obtained by The Daily Wire <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/02/OCR-_Burnsville-High-School.pdf">says</a>.
The club is <a href="https://bhs.isd191.org/activities/affinity-groups" target="_blank" rel="noopener">listed</a> on the school’s website alongside other clubs like the Black Student Union, the Muslim Student Association, and the Gender Sexuality Alliance.
“Unlike the other six affinity groups identified in the exhibits, the Indigenous Student Council (ISC) is the only group that explicitly states it is not open to the entire student body,” the complaint says. “Accordingly, we ask that the Department promptly investigate the allegations in this complaint, act swiftly to remedy unlawful policies and practices, and order appropriate relief.”
The complaint claims that the club violates the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which says federal funding cannot go toward racially discriminatory programming.
The Daily Wire reached out to the high school for further clarification on the nature of the council and response to the complaint.

Caroline Moore, the vice president of Parents Defending Education, said the student council was “unabashedly unconstitutional.”
“Burnsville High School has two student councils,” Moore told The Daily Wire. “One that everyone can participate in, and another that only allows Native American students. If students cannot coexist in something as simple serving as leaders for their graduation class, where does this madness end?”
“If Minneapolis and its suburbs are any indication of where race relations in this country are going, I want no part of it. This is unabashedly unconstitutional and the DOE should conduct a thorough investigation of racial discrimination in this district immediately,” she added.
Schools across the country have faced backlash from parents who want teachers to focus on academic achievement as opposed to focusing on racial and sexual identity.

Minnesota High School Has Separate ‘Student Council’ For ‘Indigenous’ Students

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sparked calls for her removal from Congress over the weekend after she made remarks at an event in Minnesota in which she told a group of Somalis that she is advocating for Somalia — where she was born and raised during her early years — while serving in the U.S. Congress.
A three-minute <a href="https://twitter.com/ambrhodajelmi/status/1751669533171994655">video</a> clip of Omar went viral on Sunday that appears to have been translated by alleged officials from Somaliland, a breakaway region in Somalia that has claimed its independence from Somalia for decades but is <a href="https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/somaliland-horn-africas-breakaway-state">not recognized</a> by any other countries as being a sovereign state.
Omar made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at an event at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis celebrating the recent re-election of Said Abdullahi Deni as the President of the Puntland State of Somalia.
Omar&#8217;s remarks come as there have been recent tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia over Somaliland. Ethiopia <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/somalia-rejects-mediation-efforts-with-ethiopia-over-port-deal-2024-01-18/">reportedly</a> came to an agreement with Somaliland that would recognize Somaliland as a country independent from Somalia in exchange for Ethiopia, which is a landlocked country, gaining access to 12 miles of the coastline in the region through a lease agreement.
Somalia flatly rejected the agreement, saying in a statement: &#8220;There is no space for mediation unless Ethiopia retracts its illegal [memorandum of understanding] and reaffirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.&#8221;
According to a professional translation of Omar&#8217;s remarks acquired by The Daily Wire from an international translation service, Omar referenced the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland: &#8220;A few days ago, we heard the news about some people claiming to be Somalis getting into an agreement with Ethiopia.&#8221;

Omar thanked Somali President Hassan Sheikh for &#8220;reminding everyone that even if Somalia is in crisis, we are people of talent who know their country and whose country cannot be put in danger.&#8221;
&#8220;I want to congratulate the Somalis in Minnesota and the Somalis everywhere on how you all are united and how you all supported our President, who needs our support,&#8221; she concluded, according to the translation. &#8220;Somalia is Somalia, and Somalis are all one; we are all brothers and sisters. No one can divide our land; we are missing land, and we will search for it soon. No one will divide whatever land that we have now.&#8221;
A translation of Omar&#8217;s remarks that appeared in the video clip that went viral on social largely aligns with the translation provided to the The Daily Wire in conveying Omar&#8217;s overarching message, which is that she is advocating for her homeland from inside the U.S. Congress, and that it seems to be one of her top priorities, if not her top priority.
Omar clearly signaled that she is working in Congress to protect Somalia and make sure that &#8220;Somalia will never be in danger,&#8221; remarks that were included in the viral translation and verified by INGCO International, the service The Daily Wire contracted to perform the translation. The congresswoman asserted that Somalis love their homeland and promised that she is working &#8220;day and night to protect your interest.&#8221;
Omar responded to the viral translation in a post on her X account: &#8220;It’s not only slanted but completely off, but I wouldn’t expect more from these propagandists.&#8221;
Numerous top Republican politicians and conservative figures slammed Omar over her remarks.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded to the video clip: &#8220;Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!&#8221;
&#8220;Listen to it all,&#8221; said Donald Trump Jr. &#8220;It’s not hyperbole when we say our representatives are putting America last.&#8221;
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) responded: &#8220;Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office. She should resign in disgrace.&#8221;

A Minneapolis man who maintained his innocence for 19 years has been freed from prison following a judge’s ruling that his original trial was unfair.
Marvin Haynes, 35, was released from prison on Monday after serving 19 years in prison for the murder of 55-year-old Randy Sherer back in 2004, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/marvin-haynes-conviction-vacated-minnesota-39d861f14443ab02ff721be931606eb5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. His release came after a judge ruled that eyewitness evidence used in Haynes’ trial was unreliable, an issue on which the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office agreed with defense attorneys.
“I just want to thank everybody that supported me through this whole journey,” Haynes told reporters outside the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater after he was released. “And now y’all can recognize that I’m actually innocent.”
Haynes was 16 when he was accused of killing Sherer, a clerk in a flower shop. After he was convicted in 2005, Hayes exclaimed in court that he “didn’t kill that man!” He looked at the jury as he yelled, adding, “They’re all going to burn in hell for that.”
His attorneys have argued that detectives pressured witnesses to point the finger at Haynes by threatening them, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/11/us/minneapolis-murder-conviction-marvin-haynes.html?partner=slack&amp;smid=sl-share" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Detectives also reportedly ignored evidence that pointed away from Haynes as the killer and an improperly conducted photo lineup.
The sole witness in the crime was initially shown a photo lineup that did not include Haynes. When she picked a photo and said she was 75-80% sure that was the killer, police learned the chosen man had been in a different state at the time of the killing, so the witness was shown a second lineup. This one included an old photo of Haynes with short hair, which he had since grown long. The witness didn’t identify Haynes this time around but did identify him as the killer during a third lineup and in her trial testimony, the AP reported.

The Innocence Project assisted in Haynes’ release, with attorneys from the organization showing in court that Haynes did not match the description of the killer, who was much older than Haynes at the time, as well as larger and taller.
After being released, Haynes said at a news conference with his attorneys, family, and even Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, who works for the same prosecutor’s office that convicted Haynes in 2005. Haynes said at this conference that he hopes to get a job, and the first thing he would do is visit his mother, who had a stroke several years ago.
“I shed tears,” he said, according to the AP. “I haven’t cried so much in 19 years. I’m so excited. Overwhelmed with emotion.”
Moriarty also spoke at the press conference.
“We inflicted harm on Mr. Haynes and his family, and also on Randy Sherer, the victim, his family, and the community,” she said. “We cannot undo the trauma experienced by those impacted by this prosecution. But today we have taken a step towards righting this wrong.”
