Two Killed, Two Police Officers Shot In Minneapolis Mass Shooting

At least two people are dead, and several others were wounded in a mass shooting Wednesday at a high-rise apartment building in downtown Minneapolis. The suspected gunman also died, law enforcement said. 

Three Minneapolis police officers were injured during the response. One sustained an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, while another is undergoing surgery after being shot. A third officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury that was unrelated to gunfire, according to authorities.

The shooting erupted after police responded to an apartment building near 15 East Grant Street for a domestic disturbance involving the suspect. A source told KSTP that the suspect was evicted from their apartment earlier Wednesday.

Police have not disclosed a suspected motive.

When officers entered the building, they encountered victims and heard additional gunfire, according to Sgt. Garrett Parten. Officers followed the sound to an upper floor, where they encountered a haze that significantly limited visibility.

“Inside, officers encountered victims and heard additional gunfire. Officers followed the sound of gunfire to the upper floor of the building, and on that floor, officers encountered a haze that significantly limited their visibility,” Parten said during a press conference. “Three officers were injured — two of those by gunfire.”

The suspected gunman is dead, Parten confirmed. He did not confirm how the suspect died, but several media outlets are reporting it was suicide. 

“Pray for Minnesota,” Democratic Gov. Tim Walz said on X.

FBI Director Kash Patel said he was aware of the shooting and would offer “any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities.”

Aerial video shows a heavy Minnesota police response, including SWAT vehicles, surrounding a downtown building.

“Minnesota is grateful to all of our first responders who answered the call in Minneapolis this afternoon,” Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan said in a statement. “My family and I are praying for a swift recovery for the officers involved in the shooting.”
