Former Governor Martin O&#8217;Malley (D-MD) suggested that blue-state attorneys general could resort to filing state kidnapping charges against President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration over continued efforts to deport criminal illegal aliens and suspected gang members.
O&#8217;Malley spoke with MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow, arguing that it was &#8220;only a matter of time&#8221; before someone figured out how to most effectively weaponize the court system at the state level in order to curtail the Trump administration&#8217;s enforcement of federal immigration policy.

O&#8217;Malley made no effort to square his argument with the fact that states cannot dictate federal immigration policy to the Executive Branch, nor did he explain how state kidnapping charges would prevent the U.S. State Department from revoking legal immigration status — as was done with Columbia University agitator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-rules-columbias-pro-hamas-agitator-mahmoud-khalil-can-be-deported" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahmoud Khalil</a> — in cases of legal immigrants whose continued presence in the United States is at odds with foreign policy objectives.
O&#8217;Malley is not alone in his line of thinking, however. Rep. Laura Friedman (D-CA) said that Democrats in the House — along with Democrat Attorneys General across the country — continue to meet regularly in their efforts to use the courts as a weapon against Trump&#8217;s administration.

A Connecticut woman has been arrested after a man identifying himself as her stepson told police he set a fire at their house to escape after she held him captive for 20 years.
Kimberly Sullivan, 56, was taken into police custody on Wednesday and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree unlawful restraint, cruelty to persons, and first-degree reckless endangerment, according to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/WaterburyPoliceDept/posts/pfbid0nszdYeFd1hohq7UNiM6hYM4KupGR7fLTaUtjyKUuta7A34QjZTCeVLRNJYyXTrQwl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a Facebook post</a> from the Waterbury Police Department.
“The suffering this victim endured for over 20 years is both heartbreaking and unimaginable,” Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo said in a statement. “This case required relentless investigative effort, and I commend the dedication of our officers and the Waterbury State’s Attorney’s Office. Their unwavering commitment ensured that justice is served, and the perpetrator is held fully accountable for these horrific crimes.”
On February 17, around 8:42 p.m., Waterbury police and fire personnel responded to a report of a house fire. Sullivan, the owner of the property, was able to escape on her own, while the second occupant — her unidentified 32-year-old stepson — was rescued by firefighters and given medical treatment after suffering burns and smoke inhalation. While he was receiving medical treatment, the man told first responders that he set the fire using printer paper as kindling and hand sanitizer for fuel, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/13/us/waterbury-connecticut-man-captive-stepmom-hnk/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The man added that he had been kept prisoner by his stepmother since he was around 11 years old — for about 20 years.
“I wanted my freedom,” he reportedly told police.
After the man made his claims, police investigated, and said evidence showed that the man had suffered “prolonged abuse, starvation, severe neglect, and inhumane treatment.”
The man reportedly weighed just 68 pounds, <a href="https://www.wfsb.com/2025/03/12/man-intentionally-starts-fire-home-he-was-held-captive-over-20-years-waterbury-escape/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to WFSB-TV 3</a>, citing a warrant. CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/13/us/waterbury-connecticut-man-captive-stepmom-hnk/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added</a> that the man allegedly survived on two sandwiches a day and two cups of water while he was locked in a storage space with both sides of the door secured with plywood. He was locked in from the outside, the outlet added.
The man also was allegedly pulled out of school in the fourth grade and hadn’t been allowed to leave the house since he was 14 or 15 years old.
An arrest warrant for Sullivan was issued on March 11 and she was taken into custody the next day.
“He lit a fire with some hand sanitizer, some paper from a printer, and he lit that fire while he was locked in that room from the outside. He lit that fire very well knowing he could die, but he had been locked in the room for 20 years, and for 20 years he’d been trying to get out of that room,” prosecutors said during Sullivan’s arraignment on Tuesday, according to WFSB-TV 3.
Ioannis A. Kaloidis, Sullivan’s attorney, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kc5rxrBRt8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters outside the courtroom that the claims against his client were false and “outlandish.”
“She was blown away when she heard these allegations,” the lawyer said. “She’s adamant they are not true. This did not happen and we look forward to being able to vindicate her and show that she’s done nothing wrong.”
He added that the “allegations seemed to be based on the words of one individual and one individual alone.”
Sullivan’s bond was set at $300,000, <a href="https://people.com/mother-allegedly-held-stepson-captive-for-20-years-before-he-lit-fire-to-escape-something-out-of-a-horror-movie-11696021" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to People Magazine</a>, and she is currently being held by the Connecticut Department of Corrections.

President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> commuted the death sentences of dozens of convicted killers on Monday, including a man who murdered a police officer and a man who kidnapped and murdered a 12-year-old girl.
Just two days before Christmas, Biden announced that he would be commuting the death sentences of 37 out of 40 prisoners on death row, each of who had been sentenced to death over a violent crime. The only people on death row excluded from the mass commutation were the Boston Marathon bomber, the Tree of Life Synagogue Shooter, and the man who murdered nine people at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. 
“I’ve dedicated my career to reducing violent crime and ensuring a fair and effective justice system,” Biden <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/12/23/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-federal-death-row-commutations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a>. &#8220;Today, I am commuting the sentences of 37 of the 40 individuals on federal death row to life sentences without the possibility of parole. These commutations are consistent with the moratorium my Administration has imposed on federal executions, in cases other than terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder.&#8221;
“Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss,” he added. 
One of those whose death sentence was commuted was Thomas Sanders, who was <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/neworleans/news/press-releases/jury-imposes-death-sentence-on-a-las-vegas-man-for-kidnapping-and-murdering-a-12-year-old-girl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> in 2014 of kidnapping and murdering 12-year-old Lexis Roberts. Sanders kidnapped Roberts after he shot her mother in the head. He held Roberts captive for several days before he shot her four times, cut her throat, and hid her body in the woods. 
Another one of those whose sentence was commuted was <a href="https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/crime/2013/10/22/court-upholds-cop-killer-s/23840867007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cop-killer</a> Daryl Lawrence. Lawrence murdered 33-year-old Ohio police officer Bryan Hurst during a bank robbery in Columbus in 2005. 
Others included a man who murdered two people in a carjacking, a man who murdered a postal worker, and multiple men who murdered fellow prisoners.

The latest move comes after Biden announced <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-announces-mass-commutations-after-criticism-over-hunter-pardon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">earlier this mont</a>h that he was commuting sentences for around 1,500 people. His commutations come as he has taken a number of other last minute policy decisions which will undermine the Trump administration. He is also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">racing</a> to sell off border wall materials and move them away from the southern border and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-look-to-hire-up-to-1200-new-dei-bureaucrats-before-trump-takes-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">looking</a> to hire up to 1,200 employees to work in diversity, equity, and inclusion positions.

A Pennsylvania man spent a month in jail on a $1 million bond after a woman falsely accused him of trying to assault and kidnap her earlier this year.
Anjela Urumova, 20, has been charged with false alarm to an agency of public safety and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, two counts of false reports, and three counts of unsworn falsification to authorities, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said in <a href="https://bucks.crimewatchpa.com/da/29567/post/woman-charged-lying-about-attempted-rape-and-kidnapping-middletown?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3YyQJlH5Db-8yWqwV0vy3hexB6_NaCPhKkKXWXkiAi3UHBsznwlTOuTo0_aem_AdltADxXs4BfzabSGY-ieNzHBLNr7UCMWY5AGMrMLUl5p27X1O9alwyrus6_pkDe37Wyl3F5f7Jk96_277cWqBca" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a press release</a>. She was remanded to jail with a $30,000 bail.
On April 16, Urumova called police from a Redner’s grocery store parking lot, claiming a man had attempted to rape and kidnap her, Patch <a href="https://patch.com/pennsylvania/levittown/man-tried-rape-kidnap-woman-lower-bucks-parking-lot-da" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. She claimed she had parked her truck near the back of the parking lot around 8 p.m. and just after she got out, a white male grabbed her from behind. She said she screamed but the man wouldn’t let her go, pulled down her pants, told her to shut up, and punched her in the face.
She said the man then lifted her and moved her toward his truck, but when she continued to scream, he let her go and ran back to his truck to escape.
She described the man as around 6 feet tall, with a beard and short hair, balding, and wearing dark jeans and a black T-shirt. She described his truck as an older model Ford F-150 or F-250, blue, and covered in rust and dents.
Police used surveillance footage to quickly track down the truck, which belonged to a relative of the man initially charged with the crime. The falsely accused man will not be named by The Daily Wire, since he is innocent. The man was arrested while driving a different vehicle but wearing the same clothes described by Urumova.
He was charged with “criminal attempt to commit kidnapping to facilitate a felony, criminal attempt to commit kidnapping to inflict injury or terror, criminal attempt to commit rape by forcible compulsion, criminal attempt to commit rape by threat of forcible compulsion, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and three counts of simple assault,” Patch reported. He was sent to jail on a $1 million bond.
Shortly after, authorities received a tip that the situation needed to be investigated further. Middletown Township Police then reviewed footage from multiple surveillance cameras that captured the area of the alleged attack, and a detective reviewed Urumova’s cellphone data.

Investigators soon discovered inconsistencies and contradictions in Urumova’s claims, so they confronted her with their findings and she admitted to making up the entire incident. She admitted that no assault had occurred and that she had targeted the man because she had seen him and the truck previously and found him to be “creepy,” Law &amp; Crime <a href="https://lawandcrime.com/crime/20-year-old-woman-completely-made-up-story-that-a-man-tried-to-rape-and-kidnap-her-outside-of-supermarket-leading-him-to-be-wrongly-jailed-for-a-month-da/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
As to the injuries Urumova claimed came from the man punching her in the face, she actually received them when her grandmother, who suffered from dementia, didn’t recognize her and threw a plastic object at her, hitting her in the lip.
A month later, the man was released from jail and the charges against him were dropped.
The <a href="https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24676310/urumova-complaint.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complaint</a> against Urumova shows that officers asked her whether she ever meant to admit she lied, she claimed she “planned on telling the truth at some point before” the wrongly accused man’s preliminary hearing.
While the falsely accused man faced years in prison after being charged with felonies, Urumova may get little, if any, prison time for her crimes, which are misdemeanors.

The last time anyone spoke to Ana Maria Knezevich Henao she seemed happy and “totally normal,” but a day later, she disappeared into thin air.
A couple months later, Ana’s estranged husband, David Knezevich, was arrested at the Miami airport and charged with kidnapping, People Magazine <a href="https://people.com/ana-knezevich-henao-missing-spain-all-about-case-accusations-husband-8650265" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. He has not been charged with her murder, and she is still nowhere to be found.
Ana, who was born in Colombia, left her home in Florida and traveled to Madrid, Spain, on December 27, 2023, just after she separated from her husband, a Serbian immigrant whom she had been married to for 13 years. The couple owned a tech company together, and splitting up the company became the crux of their contentious divorce.
Ana’s brother, Felibe, told People that the couple were “going through a nasty divorce and there is a substantial amount of money on the line to be split up between the two and Knezevich is not happy about it.&#8221;
Her best friend, Sanna Rameau, told People that Ana “really liked the culture in that city and the atmosphere, and she said she wanted to go and live there.” In Spain, Ana wanted to create a non-profit that would help “women that have been abused or been in a bad situation.”

In January 2024, Rameau was able to meet with Ana in Austria, and the two made plans to get together in Madrid on February 8. Rameau told the outlet that she spoke to Ana every day, but as their meeting in Spain approached, Ana disappeared.
Rameau knew something was wrong when she received troubling text messages from Ana’s phone on February 3.
“I met someone wonderful,” one message said, <a href="https://people.com/ana-knezevich-henao-missing-husband-texts-made-him-suspect-8647654" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to People</a>. “He has a summer house about 2h [two hours] from Madrid. We are going there now and I will spend a few days there. There is barely any signal though. I’ll call you when I come back. Kisses.”
Rameau told the outlet that she “was very confused” by the texts.
“I was like, ‘What are you talking about? What is going on? This is not safe. Share your location. Something is wrong,&#8217;” she said.
But Ana stopped responding.
Rameau contacted a friend of Ana in Madrid and also called the authorities.
The last confirmed contact with Ana was on the evening of February 2, Rameau told the outlet, saying her friend was “just goofing around” and acted “totally normal.”
Security cameras at her apartment building captured footage of Ana entering her home around 2:30 p.m. Around 9:27 p.m. that same day, the cameras captured a man wearing a helmet enter the building and cover a surveillance camera lens with spray paint. Police have said the man resembled Knezevich.
A federal complaint obtained by People revealed that the man was also seen &#8220;fastening a piece of duct tape to the lock of the building entrance to prevent the lock from engaging to allow subsequent entry.&#8221;
Around 10:30 p.m., the man was seen leaving the building with what appeared to be a suitcase.

When Spanish police searched Ana’s apartment after she was reported missing, they noted that her cell phone, laptop, and chargers were all missing.
Police also tracked down the shop that sold the brand of spray paint used by the man in the surveillance footage. The shop’s security cameras “depicted an individual who appeared to be Knezevich purchasing the spray paint along with two rolls of duct tape,” on February 2, according to the complaint against Knezevich.
Investigators working on Ana’s disappearance also discovered Knezevich contacted a Colombian woman online in October 2023 who said he asked her to translate a message into “perfect Colombian,” People reported. 
She claimed Knezevich told her he needed the translation for his friend in Serbia “who is writing a script about a Colombian character.”
The woman said the message Knezevich asked her to translate was the same one that Ana’s friend Rameau received the day after Ana disappeared, about meeting a man and spending days with him in a place with spotty cell service. Knezevich also allegedly asked her to translate another message that read: “yesterday after therapy I needed a walk and he approached me on the street! Amazing connection. Like I never had before.”
Authorities contend that Knezevich flew from Miami to Istanbul on January 27 and then rented a car in Serbia on January 29 before driving to Spain to allegedly kidnap his estranged wife, People reported. The owner of the rental car company reportedly told authorities that Knezevich returned the vehicle with tinted windows and different frames for the license plate.
On April 24, nearly three months after Ana disappeared, one of Knezevich’s employees told police that he had asked her to “impersonate” Ana to open a new bank account. The employee said Knezevich provided her with Ana’s social security number to use as identification. When the employee said she was uncomfortable doing so because Ana was missing, Knezevich allegedly told her that it “needed to be done” in order to pay all the employees. Knezevich allegedly added that “I cannot call with my voice because I sound like a guy.”
Knezevich maintains his innocence, with his attorney claiming his client was in Serbia when Ana disappeared, some 1,600 miles away, WSVN <a href="https://wsvn.com/news/local/broward/attorney-husband-denies-any-involvement-in-disappearance-of-south-florida-woman-in-spain/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.

Even with Knezevich’s arrest, Ana’s friends and family still wonder where she is.
“Nothing of this makes sense to me,” Rameau told People. “It&#8217;s devastating. We just want to know where she is.&#8221;
&#8220;I am not going to stop until justice has been served,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I miss her every minute. I just dream that she would come back. She was a sweetheart.”
Ana’s younger brother Felipe still hopes his sister can be found.
“If anybody out there has any information about her whereabouts, we still have hope that we can find where my sister is,” he said during a press conference on May 8, just days after Knezevich was arrested, WSVN <a href="about:blank">reported</a>. “If she’s out there, somewhere, I just want to tell her we all love her, we miss her, we support her, we’re her voice.”

An Algerian teenager who disappeared in 1998 has been found alive in his neighbor’s basement, where he had been held captive for the past 26 years.
Omar Bin Omran was just 17 when he went missing while traveling to his vocational school more than a quarter-century ago, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/05/15/world-news/teen-kidnapped-26-years-ago-rescued-from-neighbors-cellar-just-100-meters-from-home/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, citing Algerian <a href="https://www.elkhabar.com/press/article/243856/%D8%A3%D8%B3%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D8%AC%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%A9-%D8%B9%D9%86-%D8%AD%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%A9-%D8%B9%D9%85%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AE%D8%AA%D8%B7%D9%81-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B0-26-%D8%B9%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A7/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">media outlets</a>. Omar, who is now 45 and has a beard, was rescued over the weekend from a hole in his neighbor’s basement, which was used as some sort of sheep pen and covered with hay.
Omran’s family had assumed he had died as part of the country’s civil war with multiple Islamist rebel groups that were occurring in the 1990s and early 2000s, the Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13422609/kidnapped-man-vanished-27-years-ago-discovered-neighbours-cellar.html?ns_mchannel=rss&amp;ns_campaign=1490&amp;ito=social-twitter_mailonline" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The man accused of kidnapping Omran, a 61-year-old referred to only as “B.A.,” has been taken into custody, according to a statement from the Djelfa Attorney General’s Office reported by multiple media outlets.
“Two days ago, on 12 May 2024, the Public Prosecutor&#8217;s Office received, through the regional department of the National Gendarmerie in El Jadid, a complaint against an anonymous person claiming that the complainant&#8217;s brother, Omar bin Omran, who has been missing for about 30 years, is in the house of one of his neighbours, inside a sheepfold,” the statement said, according to the Mail.
“Following this report the General Prosecutor of the Court of Idrisiya in the province of Djelfa ordered the National Gendarmerie to open an in-depth investigation and officers went to the house in question,” the statement added. “The missing person was found and the suspect, the 61-year-old owner of the house was arrested.”
Omran will receive medical and psychological treatment following his ordeal, the prosecutor’s office said.
The man who allegedly abducted Omran is reportedly a civil servant who was regularly seen buying enough food for two people despite living alone.

Algerian media also reported the alleged kidnapper killed Omran’s dog after it was heard whining near where Omran was being held.
Omran’s mother tragically died in 2013 without knowing that her son was alive and being held captive just 300 feet away from her home. Omran was reportedly made aware of his mother’s death while in captivity.
In a statement reviewed by the Mail, the Algerian Ministry of Justice appeared to suggest that Omran’s family became aware of his location after the alleged kidnapper’s brother mentioned something about the missing man during an inheritance dispute.
As to why Omran didn’t attempt to escape, Algerian media suggested he was unable to due to his diminished psychological state.

An <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alabama" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alabama</a> woman who admitted that she lied about being kidnapped last year was sentenced by a judge this week to probation and to pay restitution.
Carlee Russell, 26, was charged last summer with two misdemeanors — falsely reporting to law enforcement authorities and falsely reporting an incident — and was subsequently found guilty of both counts.
Russell had told law enforcement officials that she had been kidnapped after she went missing for two days. She later <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/carlee-russell-admits-her-entire-kidnapping-story-was-a-hoax" target="_blank" rel="noopener">admitted</a> to making up the entire incident.
Hoover Municipal Judge Brad Bishop recommended last fall that Russell pay $18,000 in restitution and spend a year in prison.
Russell&#8217;s team appealed the ruling in an attempt to get her out of having to spend time in jail, ABC News reported. Their effort was successful as Russell was sentenced to pay $17,974.88 restitution to the city of Hoover and 12 months of supervised probation, community service, and evidence of continued mental health counseling, the report added.
The Alabama Attorney General&#8217;s Office said that they were &#8220;disappointed, but not surprised&#8221; that Russell avoided going to jail, but noted that changes would soon be happening in the state that would prevent someone from getting off the hook in the future.
&#8220;Current law provides a weak penalty for false reporting and fails to account for situations, like Ms. Russell&#8217;s, that result in a significant law enforcement response,&#8221; said Katherine Robertson, chief counsel for the Alabama attorney general. &#8220;Fortunately, the Governor will soon receive our legislation to increase penalties for false reporting when an imminent threat is alleged and will expand the amount of restitution that can be sought. The next time law enforcement resources are needlessly wasted in this manner, the offender will be forever labeled a felon.&#8221;
Russell attorney Emory Anthony acknowledged in a statement last year that his client had lied about the entire incident.
“There was no kidnapping on Thursday July 13,” the statement said. “My client did not see a baby on the side on the road.”

A 17-year-old Chinese foreign exchange student who was reported missing last week has been found alive, with police saying he was the victim of a “cyber kidnapping.”
Kai Zhuang had been staying with a host family in Riverdale, Utah, when he disappeared last week, ABC4 <a href="https://www.abc4.com/news/northern-utah/missing-riverdale-foreign-exchange-student-found-near-brigham-city-in-case-of-cyber-kidnapping/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The host family reportedly told police that Zhuang had been home on December 27, and that they heard him in the early morning hours of December 28, and thought nothing was wrong.
But Zhuang left on the morning of December 28 and didn’t return home. His parents in China reported him missing after they received a ransom demand. They contacted school officials in Riverdale and were told by police that Zhuang’s host parents didn’t even know he was missing.
Several days later, on December 31, Zhuang was found safe in a tent near Brigham City, Utah, following a search that included multiple counties and was aided by the FBI, ABC4 reported.
Zhuang was “very cold and scared” but relieved to see police, Riverdale Police Chief Casey Warren said in <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=788485949980868&amp;set=pcb.788486709980792" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a statement</a> released Sunday.
The statement said that Zhuang’s parents had received a photograph of their son and claimed he was abducted, demanding a ransom. The image of Zhuang appeared to show that he “was being held captive and was in danger,” police said. The family told police they transferred around $80,000 U.S. dollars to bank accounts in China to pay off the kidnappers, who repeatedly threatened their child.
Riverdale police learned while working with the FBI that cyber kidnapping has become a recent trend, particularly with Chinese foreign exchange students.
“The kidnappers threaten the young foreign exchange students and their family, and they demand ransom,” the police statement said. “They tell the victims to isolate themselves and they monitor them through Facetime calls and or Skype. The cyber kidnappers convince the victim under duress to take photos of themselves that make it appear they are being held captive and send the photos to their parents. The victims comply out of fear that their families will be harmed if they don’t comply with the cyber kidnappers.”

Meanwhile, the kidnappers “continue to extort the family by using fear tactics, photos, and voice recordings of the victim leading the family to believe the kidnappers are with the victim causing them harm.”
Police believe Zhuang had been contacted and manipulated by the kidnappers prior to his disappearance on December 28, as Provo Police said the teen had attempted to go camping in Provo, Utah, on December 20, but was returned to Riverdale.
“We believed the victim was isolating himself at the direction of the cyber kidnappers in a tent,” Riverdale Police said in their statement. “Due to the cold weather in Utah at this time of year, we became additionally concerned for the victim’s safety in that he may freeze to death overnight.”
Once found, Zhuang reportedly “only wanted to speak to his family to ensure they were safe and requested a warm cheeseburger,” Riverdale police said. Both requests were accomplished before Zhuang returned to Riverdale.

The key witness who led to the naming of Christian Brueckner as the prime suspect in the disappearance of 3-year-old Madeleine McCann could now face allegations of perjury.
Helge Büsching claimed that Brueckner confessed to kidnapping the little girl from a resort in Portugal back in 2007, the New Zealand Herald <a href="https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/madeleine-mccann-case-hits-stumbling-block-main-witness-faces-possible-perjury-charge/ZEPX6SUWM5BXJNPH6ORQGOYPQM/">reported</a>. Büsching claimed that Brueckner said it was “odd that she didn’t scream,” while the two discussed the girl’s disappearance.
In 2020, Büsching was asked what he thought of Brueckner, responding: “One word. Guilty.” At that time, Büsching also told investigators that he had stolen videotapes from Brueckner that allegedly showed numerous crimes. Even though the tapes have never been found, Büsching’s claim about these tapes led to Bruekner being jailed for seven years for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting two women.
Büsching claimed the tapes had been left in a caravan, but in January 2023, he changed his story and claimed they were not left in a caravan, but on a rural property where he used to live with another witness.
The change in statements, however, has led to Brueckner’s attorney, Friedrich Fülscher, attacking Büsching’s credibility. The allegations from Fülscher could lead to a perjury charge for Büsching.
“As a witness, this man is completely unbelievable,” Fülscher said, according to the Herald.

German prosecutor Hans-Christian Wolters, who is handling the case against Brueckner for the disappearance of McCann, must now weigh Büsching’s credibility.
Madeleine McCann was 3 years old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/unsolved-the-disappearance-of-madeleine-mccann" target="_blank" rel="noopener">when she disappeared</a> from her bed in an apartment her family rented while on vacation in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007. She would be 20 years old today.
The McCann family — parents Gerry and Kate along with Madeleine and her twin siblings, who were 2 years old – was on vacation with seven friends, now known as the Tapas Seven, along with their children.
On the morning of May 3, 2007, the children played at the resort’s Kids’ Club before joining their parents at the pool, after which they returned to the Kids’ Club until Kate took them back to their apartment. Kate and Gerry put their children to bed before joining their friends at the resort’s tapas restaurant, located across the pool from the apartments where they were all staying.
The adults took turns checking on the children, with Kate completing her own check on the children around 10 p.m. and found her daughter missing. She quickly searched the apartment before running back to the restaurant screaming, “Madeleine’s gone! Someone’s taken her!”
By 10:10, a member of the Tapas Seven told the resort’s reception desk to call the police, and by 10:30, the resort began its missing child search protocol, which involved 60 staff members and guests searching the premises until 4:30 in the morning.
Madeleine has never been found.
The most significant break in the case came in 2020, when police named Brueckner as a suspect.
Jim Gamble, a former British police officer who in 2010 led an official review of McCann’s disappearance, said in April 2022 that phone data put Brueckner near the scene of the crime within a 30-minute timeframe. Brueckner had also allegedly stolen from vacation homes in the area, with children’s clothing reportedly found in his vehicle.
Brueckner, however, denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.

The New York Man suspected of kidnapping a 9-year-old girl from a state park in New York has been charged with rape.
Craig Ross Jr., 47, was initially charged with only first-degree kidnapping after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/missing-9-year-old-abducted-from-ny-campground-found-safe-in-suspects-camper" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allegedly abducting</a> the young girl, Charlotte Sena, from Moreau Lake State Park in Saratoga County, New York, on September 30. Sena was found safe inside the cabinet of a camper belonging to the suspect.
Ross is now believed to have raped the young girl while holding her for two days before she was found, according to prosecutors.
A massive search effort was launched after Sena disappeared, with an Amber Alert saying she was “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/search-continues-for-9-year-old-girl-missing-from-ny-campground-in-imminent-danger" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in imminent danger</a>.” She was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/missing-9-year-old-abducted-from-ny-campground-found-safe-in-suspects-camper" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> on October 2.
Earlier that day, Ross allegedly placed a ransom note containing his fingerprints in the Sena family’s mailbox. The fingerprints were entered into a database and came back as a match for Ross, who had a previous arrest in 1999 for DWI.
“He literally drove up to the family’s mailbox, assuming they were not home [at] 4:20 in the morning, opens the mailbox and inserts the ransom note leaving the critical piece of evidence behind — his own fingerprint,” New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul said after Sena was found.
Two law enforcement teams then took helicopters to land at the address where Ross lived in a camper behind his mother’s house. “After some resistance,” Hochul said, Ross was arrested.
“Immediately the little girl was found in a cabinet cupboard,” Hochul said. “She was rescued and she knew she was being rescued. She knew that she was in safe hands.”
It is unclear whether this was random or if Ross targeted Sena specifically, investigators said. He does live just two miles away from her family.
“But it is not known at this time, whether he knew her or had her under surveillance for any length of time,” Hochul said.
Sena was camping with her family over the weekend when she rode her bike around Loop A of the park, at first with family friends and then once by herself. When she didn’t return after 15 minutes, her parents and others began searching for her, finding only her bike. Her parents then called 911.
The search for Sena included more than 400 personnel and 75 law enforcement officials on the ground, including NY State Police K-9s and bloodhounds.

A missing 9-year-old girl who was abducted from an upstate New York park has been found safe inside the cabinet of a camper belonging to the suspect.
The young girl, Charlotte Sena, was rescued from the camper belonging to 47-year-old Craig Nelson Ross Jr., who was caught after he left a ransom note at Sena’s home, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/10/03/charlotte-sena-9-year-old-girl-abducted-from-ny-park-was-found-safe-inside-cabinet-of-suspects-camper/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Ross has been charged with first-degree kidnapping.
