The anti-ICE demonstrations and riots that broke out in Los Angeles County nearly a week ago calmed down on Wednesday night after L.A. Democratic Mayor Karen Bass issued a curfew and local law enforcement officers moved in to arrest any demonstrators who defied the order.
Bass issued a curfew on Tuesday and Wednesday night from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for most of downtown L.A. to prevent any further violence or vandalism, The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/live/los-angeles-protests-immigration-raid-live-updates">reported</a>. An unlawful assembly was declared at 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday, and LAPD officers moved in to disperse the crowd, firing rubber bullets at 7:00 p.m. and causing many of the demonstrators to flee the scene. Thirty minutes later, the LAPD began arresting anyone who remained in the curfew zone downtown, which was around a few dozen protesters, according to the Times.
In a Thursday morning social media <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114670085083632579">post</a>, President Donald Trump took credit for the calmer nights of protests, praising the National Guard and the Marines, whom he deployed to L.A., for putting &#8220;L.A. Police in a position to effectively do their job.&#8221;
&#8220;Los Angeles was safe and sound for the last two nights. Our great National Guard, with a little help from the Marines, put the L.A. Police in a position to effectively do their job,&#8221; Trump wrote. &#8220;They all worked well together, but without the Military, Los Angeles would be a crime scene like we haven’t seen in years.&#8221;
Trump then ripped California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, saying that he &#8220;had totally lost control of the situation.&#8221;
&#8220;He should be saying THANK YOU for saving his ass, instead of trying to justify his mistakes and incompetence!!!&#8221; the president added.
L.A. Police Chief Jim McDonnell told &#8220;<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/la-police-chief-national-guard-focused-on-immigration-agenda-not-helping-with-protests/">CBS Mornings</a>&#8221; on Wednesday that the National Guard is not assisting local authorities with street protests or riot control.
&#8220;That&#8217;s not our understanding. They have a different mission,&#8221; McDonnell said. &#8220;They&#8217;re working in support of the federal agencies that are working with ICE on civil immigration enforcement and criminal immigration enforcement.&#8221; He added, &#8220;We don&#8217;t need the National Guard, and they are not here to help us right now.&#8221;
Mayor Bass <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/la-mayor-says-military-national-guard-presence-provoke-the-population">told</a> PBS on Wednesday that her curfews &#8220;absolutely&#8221; helped prevent more rioting in the downtown area.
&#8220;Last night was the first night of the curfew,&#8221; Bass said about the Tuesday night order. &#8220;And I will tell you, over 100 people were arrested, but they were arrested for failure to disperse and violating curfew, no violence, no vandalism. And so that is different than the night before.&#8221;
Bass continued to criticize Trump over the deployment of the National Guard, calling it &#8220;completely unwarranted&#8221; and arguing that Trump&#8217;s action provoked the rioting.
&#8220;No one asked for that help. You were talking about minor protests, but every time you do something like this, you provoke the population even further,&#8221; she said. &#8220;They are angry because of the raids, they are angry because of the National Guard being here, and now they are really going to be angry if the troops come in.&#8221;
Trump has called out both Bass and Newsom for how they handled the rioting over the weekend, when federal, state, and local law enforcement officers were attacked by agitators and buildings were vandalized and damaged. Earlier this week, the president <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-newsom-bass-should-thank-him-for-deploying-national-guard-to-keep-our-citizens-safe?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=12&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Says+Newsom%2C+Bass+Should+Thank+Him+For+Deploying+National+Guard+%E2%80%98To+Keep+Our+Citizens+SAFE%E2%80%99">accused</a> the mayor and governor of lying &#8220;to the People of California and America by saying that we weren’t needed, and that these are peaceful protests.&#8217;”
As the authorities quell the violence in L.A., the Trump administration continues to <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-06-11/los-angeles-immigration-protest-curfew">conduct</a> immigration raids throughout Southern California. The White House said on Wednesday that since last week, 330 suspected illegal immigrants in the Los Angeles area have been detained, 113 of whom had past criminal convictions. Immigration agents have targeted businesses, including at least five <a href="https://www.latimes.com/00000197-608b-d79b-adff-ecafffe80000-123">car washes</a> in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, arresting dozens of suspected illegal immigrants, according to the Times.

Topline: As anti-ICE riots continue in L.A., more violent demonstrations have broken out in cities nationwide.
In the last day, we’ve seen the demonstrations spread. In San Francisco, for example, more than 150 people were arrested after a riot began outside of an ICE office, where cars and city buses were destroyed, storefronts vandalized, and police assaulted. In New York City, at least a dozen protesters were arrested outside Trump Tower after resisting police while attempting to shut down traffic. Anti-ICE organizers say they are planning demonstrations in Chicago, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, and elsewhere.
But Los Angeles is still the epicenter of the unrest. A section of downtown is cleaning up after stores were looted and the area was vandalized, with a large Apple Store robbed by hundreds of rioters — we also saw jewelry and shoe stores looted as well.
&#8220;This is ridiculous,” one local business owner told <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1932473175679373387">NewsNation</a>. “This doesn&#8217;t look like they&#8217;re protesting for ICE or anything. &#8230; Just looting the stores.&#8221;
L.A.’s Democratic Mayor Karen Bass continued to downplay the riots, saying on Tuesday that the violence is only taking place in “several isolated streets in downtown Los Angeles. It is not even all of downtown Los Angeles.&#8221; Bass has made clear from the start that she places the blame on the Trump administration, which she says “provoked” unrest with their raids and threat of bringing in the National Guard. Bass has also said that the media has blown the situation out of proportion and that the LAPD has the situation under control.
However, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell <a href="https://x.com/TheChiefNerd/status/1931919309229392192">said</a> earlier this week that his force had been overwhelmed. “Tonight, we had individuals shooting commercial-grade fireworks at our officers. That can kill you. … We are overwhelmed as far as the number of people out there engaged in this activity. … There is no limit to what they are doing to our officers.&#8221;
President Trump has deployed 700 U.S. Marines and 4,000 members of the California National Guard to the area since the unrest began. Speaking from the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump had a clear message for folks in the rest of the country: the ICE raids will continue, and if you riot, we will respond with force.
Democrats nationwide have continued to push back on Trump’s mobilizing of the National Guard and Marines, saying it is unnecessary and even fascist. Governor Newsom is suing the Trump administration, calling the mobilization of troops an “unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.” On Tuesday, he also filed an <a href="https://www.courthousenews.com/newsom-files-emergency-motion-to-block-military-deployment-in-la/">emergency motion</a> requesting a restraining order to block the deployment of Guardsmen and Marines.

Topline: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has fired all members of a key vaccine advisory panel.
The Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices, known as ACIP, meets a few times a year and makes recommendations to the CDC; it basically sets the childhood vaccine schedule and makes other vaccine-related recommendations, like flu shots and COVID vaccines. ACIP also heavily influences which vaccines are covered by both public and private insurance.
On Monday, Kennedy announced that he’s “retired” all 17 members. In an op-ed submitted to The Wall Street Journal, Kennedy argued that ACIP had become a rubber stamp for all vaccines, and they weren’t appropriately diving into potential safety risks. He wrote that ACIP has “never recommended against a vaccine—even those which were later withdrawn for safety reasons,” adding that the panel “failed to scrutinize vaccine products given to babies and pregnant women.” Kennedy also highlighted conflicts of interest from ACIP and cited past investigation findings that said ACIP’s enforcement of conflict of interest rules was “weak to nonexistent” and said the panel didn’t offer transparency with their decision-making.
Thirteen of the 17 ACIP panelists were appointed by the Biden administration in 2024. Kennedy said that if he waited for them to serve out what is typically four years on the job, he wouldn&#8217;t be able to get a new panel until 2028, which is part of the reasoning for this swift “clean sweep.”

Topline: College athletes can now be paid directly by their schools after a huge lawsuit was settled this week.
A new era has dawned in the world of college sports. Something that was illegal just a week ago – schools paying players – is now the law of the land.
A settlement in the case of House vs. NCAA, a class-action lawsuit which claimed the NCAA was illegally limiting the earning potential of college athletes, has been approved by U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken. This agreement ends three separate antitrust lawsuits, and it means schools can now begin paying their athletes directly.
The first checks will be cut on July 1. The settlement doesn’t just affect current and future athletes. The NCAA will pay nearly $2.8 billion in back damages over the next 10 years to athletes who competed in college at any time from 2016 through the present day. The settlement comes with an annual cap, much like a salary cap in professional sports, that is expected to start at roughly $20.5 million per school in 2025-26. It will then increase every year during the decade-long deal. These new payments are in addition to scholarships and other benefits the athletes already receive.
It will be interesting to see how each athletic department allocates that $20.5 million between their various sports, and how each program will continue to incorporate NIL deals on top of the revenue-sharing payments.
“If you’re a fan of a group of 5 school, if you’re a fan of one of these middle schools, get ready for hard times,” sports commentator Paul Feinbaum said in response to the deal. &#8220;Women&#8217;s sports will be hurt, Olympic sports will be crushed, football wins, basketball — other than maybe the Big East — takes a slight back seat.”
NCAA President Charlie Baker was more optimistic and said he believes the settlement will help regulate what has been a very volatile market in college sports. “Opportunities to drive transformative change don&#8217;t come often to organizations like ours. It&#8217;s important we make the most of this one.”

Governor Gavin Newsom attempted to do battle with Vice President JD Vance over the ongoing riots in Los Angeles and President Donald Trump&#8217;s decision to deploy first National Guard troops and then U.S. Marines to put an end to the violence and destruction of property.
The exchange began with Newsom, who shared a video of Trump taking questions outside the White House. When asked about a social media post in which Newsom had effectively dared Border Czar Tom Homan to detain him, Trump replied, &#8220;I would do it, if I was Tom&#8221; — and then said that Newsom had issued the challenge because he &#8220;likes the publicity.&#8221;

There is a reason I left Los Angeles.
As long as I can recall living in LA, every time you would drive past a Home Depot or a similar store, there would be a crowd of illegal immigrants who were waiting for work.
You do feel bad for these people. Many of them have crossed the border in an attempt to seek work and send remittances back home, and many of them are also on welfare. It turns out that an enormous number of people who come across the border end up engaging in things that leech off of the taxpayer dime; they end up as a net cost to the taxpayer. They take part in the public education system if they have kids who they bring across the border; they end up using medical services.
But the issue is this: It’s not about whether these people are nice or mean, whether they are good or bad.
They have broken the law. They crossed the border illegally. And that is just the ones who otherwise are law-abiding.
And then there are a bunch of people who are not otherwise law-abiding. There are many people in Southern California or occupying jails in Southern California who committed crimes in addition to illegal immigration. 
Federal law says you are not allowed to cross the American border without your papers, and that if you overstay your visa, even if you come across the border legally with a visa, then you are also here illegally and you ought to be deported.
Enforcing that law should not be controversial. There is a reason countries have borders, but the United States, for as long as I can recall, simply did not enforce the law properly. That was particularly true under Joe Biden.

When Donald Trump came into office in 2016, he pledged to do something about illegal immigration. And he did. The rate of border crossing plummeted dramatically during Donald Trump&#8217;s first term.
Then Joe Biden came in and opened the border wide to the tune of at least 10 million people crossing the border, either by claiming asylum falsely or by simply crossing illegally between ports of entry or by overstaying visas.
Donald Trump has now come into office for the second time, pledging to stop illegal immigration. He has already successfully closed the southern border. And now he is activating Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to implement the law; to find people who are in the interior of the country illegally and to remove them.
This should not be controversial. Just because elected officials haven&#8217;t enforced the law properly for decades, it does not mean that enforcing the law now should be controversial.
Late last week, there were some immigration enforcement operations that happened in Southern California. According to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/los-angeles-protests-national-guard-015b5bd3">The Wall Street Journal</a>:
<blockquote>The first demonstrations began Friday in Los Angeles, when residents reacted to federal agents engaged in what appeared to be an immigration enforcement operation. Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said that some 800 protesters surrounded and breached a federal law-enforcement building in Los Angeles. 
Protests continued throughout the weekend, with a particularly tense standoff occurring Sunday evening in downtown Los Angeles. California Highway Patrol officers used flash-bang stun grenades and tactical positioning to push protesters off Highway 101. Demonstrators threw tree branches, scooters and fireworks from a freeway overpass onto police vehicles, and some protesters set fire to at least five Waymo driverless taxis.  </blockquote>

Things got incredibly fraught. That is not a giant shock. What is amazing, however, is that people believe the United States is so lawless that when federal agents show up to arrest people for being in the country illegally, we end up with hundreds of protesters, many of whom end up assaulting police officers, ICE agents, participating in acts of criminality, rioting, and burning things.
L.A. has become an incredibly lawless place. It&#8217;s one of the reasons my family and I moved during the BLM riots, in which the city of Los Angeles essentially told the cops to stand down and allow people to riot and destroy whatever they could, burning cop cars along the way.
We lived in a fairly decent area of L.A., and I could hear the helicopters above our home and gunshots. I can promise you, in the aftermath of what&#8217;s going on right now, there will be many people who look at California and say, “Why in the hell am I paying exorbitant taxes in order to live in a place that allowed every area around L.A. to burn just a few months ago, and now is allowing parts of L.A. to burn in order to protect people who came to the country illegally in the first place?”
It&#8217;s total insanity. This is essentially what my new book, “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Lions-Scavengers-Story-America-Critics/dp/1668097885">Lions and Scavengers</a>,” is about. There are two groups of people in the United States and across the West: people who wish to build institutions and create successful operating systems, and then people who wish to tear them down.
You look at the protesters and you see many of them flying Mexican flags as well as Palestinian flags (and it&#8217;s a good indicator that you&#8217;re on the wrong side of any protests if you&#8217;re the one flying a Palestinian flag). These protesters were roaming around suggesting they need to be in the United States while flying the Mexican flag.
That&#8217;s an amazing thing because they&#8217;re not saying Mexico and the United States are in solidarity. Precisely the opposite. They are saying they came to the United States as a quasi-invading force and they&#8217;ve come here as refugees from Mexico, and therefore left Mexico for a reason.
This would be the equivalent of Cuban migrants attempting to escape Cuba, who then fly the Cuban flag while attempting to stop ICE officers. It would be bizarre. 
Cubans coming to the United States from Cuba generally don&#8217;t fly the flag of the country that oppressed them and forced them to leave. If they are flying that flag it’s to overthrow the government of Cuba.
But in LA, you have a bunch of people flying Mexican flags, not because they wish to change the government of Mexico, or because they believe in the solidarity between the United States and Mexico, but because many of them believe that this entire area is Aztalan: It doesn&#8217;t belong to the American people or the American government.
The Left thinks all of this is okay. When you have the government of Los Angeles not doing enough to shut all of this down, it demonstrates the Democrats&#8217; priorities.

There&#8217;s a long heritage for all of this in the Democratic Party, going back to Barack Obama winking and nodding at the Ferguson riots of 2014. We&#8217;ve had a dozen years of this kind of garbage and yet Democrats still don&#8217;t seem to get it. They are defending the rioters and the protesters and the people who are engaging in violence.
If anyone actually wonders why President Trump is president — this is why.

President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that it would be &#8220;great&#8221; if his border czar, Tom Homan, arrested California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom over the anti-ICE riots that hit Los Angeles County over the weekend.
Homan threatened Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass with arrest on Sunday if they “cross[ed]” the line&#8221; and impeded federal agents from arresting illegal immigrants. Asked about Homan&#8217;s comments, Trump said, &#8220;I would do it if I were Tom. I think it&#8217;s great. Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a great thing.&#8221;
&#8220;He’s done a terrible job,&#8221; the president added of Newsom. &#8220;Look, I like Gavin Newsom, he’s a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent.&#8221;
Newsom responded to Trump&#8217;s comments, saying they are &#8220;an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.&#8221;

“The hell are they doing? These guys need to grow up,” the governor continued. “They need to stop, and we need to push back. And I’m sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go,” he added. &#8220;But you know what? Let your hands off 4-year-old girls that are trying to get educated. Let your hands off these poor people. They’re just trying to live their lives, man. Trying to live their lives, paying their taxes. Been here for 10 years. The fear, the horror.”
Homan appeared to back down from his threat on Monday morning, saying there was no discussion about arresting the governor.
“What we discussed was for those protesters that crossed the line … you can protest, you get your First Amendment rights, but when you cross that line, you put hands on an ICE officer or you destroy property or I’d say that you impede law enforcement, or you’re knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien, that’s a crime, and the Trump administration is not going to tolerate it,” Homan told &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends.&#8221;
“Then the reporter asked me, well, could Governor Newsom or Mayor Bass be arrested? I said, ‘Well no one’s above the law. If they cross the line and commit a crime, absolutely they can,’ so there was no discussion about arresting Newsom,” he added.

The governor said Trump’s move was “unconstitutional” and that the administration did not coordinate with his office before deploying the National Guard, a power typically exercised by governors.
Trump, however, could invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807, which allows the president to federalize the National Guard and deploy the U.S. military to quell domestic disorder or violence.

An Australian journalist was struck by a rubber bullet fired by law enforcement during a live shot covering a violent anti-ICE protest in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday.
Lauren Tomasi of 9News Australia, a CNN affiliate, was conducting a live broadcast when she was struck with the non-lethal projectile.
Video of the Sunday afternoon incident shows Tomasi standing to the side of an intersection in downtown Los Angeles as armed police officers confronted protesters.
“After hours of standing off, this situation has now rapidly deteriorated, the LAPD moving in on horseback, firing rubber bullets at protesters, moving them on through the heart of LA,” Tomasi said moments before she was hit.
In the video, an outraged bystander can be heard yelling at officers, “You just shot the f***ing reporter!”
Tomasi shrieks and limps away after the impact, telling bystanders, “I’m good.”

The Australian journalist was left sore but not seriously injured, while her country&#8217;s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued a statement saying, &#8220;all journalists should be able to do their work safely,” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/09/us/la-protests-immigration-ice-trump">according</a> to The New York Times.
It remains unclear whether the officer had deliberately aimed at the journalist, and the LAPD stated to the Times that it did not have &#8220;any comment or statement on any specific incident pertaining to the protests.&#8221;
The LAPD did issue several “unlawful assembly” declarations over the weekend, warning media members to “please keep a safe distance from active operations.”

Rubber bullets have been regularly used by law enforcement for crowd control for years, but they can cause serious injury, as was the case for a British journalist <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/media/2025/jun/09/australian-reporter-shot-with-rubber-bullet-while-covering-anti-ice-protests-in-los-angeles">hospitalized</a> by a rubber bullet over the weekend.
The Los Angeles anti-ICE protests, which began somewhat peacefully early Saturday after reported raids in the area, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tom-homan-says-national-guard-moving-into-la-to-shut-down-anti-ice-riots">deteriorated</a> into more chaotic scenes by late afternoon, leading President Donald Trump to deploy thousands of National Guard troops in the afternoon.

President Donald Trump defended his decision to deploy 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, saying on Monday that the city &#8220;would have been completely obliterated&#8221; without his action.
Trump said that California Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass should be thanking him, adding, &#8220;Instead, they choose to lie to the People of California and America by saying that we weren’t needed, and that these are &#8216;peaceful protests.'&#8221; The president argued that the footage of the anti-ICE riots that broke out in L.A. over the weekend &#8220;tells you all you have to know.&#8221;
&#8220;We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California. Trump has not yet officially invoked the Insurrection Act, and has ordered Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi &#8220;to take all such action necessary&#8221; to address the riots.
Mayor Bass also condemned Trump&#8217;s move, arguing that it was &#8220;about another agenda&#8221; and &#8220;not about public safety.&#8221;

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the Trump administration on Sunday and dared border czar Tom Homan to arrest him amid the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles County.
Trump drew the ire of California Democrats, such as Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, after he deployed the National Guard to shut down the riots that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/national-guard-rolls-into-los-angeles-after-days-of-anti-ice-riots">broke out</a> over the weekend. Homan then warned Newsom and Bass against impeding federal law enforcement officers and threatened them with arrest if they &#8220;cross[ed]&#8221; the line.&#8221; The California governor shot back, imploring the Trump administration to keep their &#8220;hands off these poor people&#8221; who are &#8220;just trying to live their lives.&#8221;
&#8220;He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me,” Newsom said of Homan in an interview with <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/californias-governor-unfazed-threats-arrest-trump-administratio-rcna211752">MSNBC</a>.

Over the weekend, federal immigration agents, along with state and local law enforcement officers, were attacked by rioters hurling rocks, concrete, and &#8220;commercial grade fireworks&#8221; — actions that LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said could have killed the police officers. Homan responded to Newsom on Monday morning, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/trump-border-czar-responds-newsoms-arrest-me-challenge-california-riots-over-ice-raids">telling</a> &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends&#8221; that &#8220;no one&#8217;s above the law,&#8221; but added that there was no discussion about arresting the governor.

Trump has not invoked the Insurrection Act of 1807, which allows the president to federalize the National Guard and deploy the U.S. military to quell domestic disorder or violence.
“We have no problem working collaboratively in a mutual aid system with local law enforcement. But there’s a protocol, there’s a process. He didn’t care about that. And the worst part, he completely lied,” Newsom added.
The Insurrection Act of 1807 was most recently <a href="https://apnews.com/article/insurrection-act-trump-troops-newsom-military-national-guard-a842f79e1c0e244039be274a6f266a7a">invoked</a> by President George H.W. Bush in 1992 to respond to the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles.
On Saturday, Newsom accused the Trump administration of deploying the National Guard because the White House wants &#8220;a spectacle.&#8221;

President Donald Trump promised Sunday night to restore order in Los Angeles after riots broke out over the weekend with protesters burning cars and attacking federal officers in response to immigration enforcement operations.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump sent the National Guard <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/national-guard-rolls-into-los-angeles-after-days-of-anti-ice-riots?author=Tim+Pearce&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=National+Guard+Rolls+Into+Los+Angeles+After+Days+Of+Anti-ICE+Riots">into</a> Los Angeles to help quell the unrest that began on Friday after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies conducted several immigration raids, <a href="https://www.foxla.com/news/dhs-crackdown-la-westlake-home-depot">including</a> outside of a Home Depot. 
“A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals. Now violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking our Federal Agents to try and stop our deportation operations — But these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“I am directing Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, in coordination with all other relevant Departments and Agencies, to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots,” Trump added. “Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
In another Truth Social post, Trump ripped into California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Karen Bass for their handling of the unrest. 
“Governor Gavin Newscum and ‘Mayor’ Bass should apologize to the people of Los Angeles for the absolutely horrible job that they have done, and this now includes the ongoing L.A. riots,” Trump wrote. “These are not protesters, they are troublemakers and insurrectionists. Remember, NO MASKS!”
Newsom has <a href="https://x.com/GavinNewsom/status/1931932116172104009" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blamed</a> Trump for the riots, claiming that he escalated the situation by sending in the National Guard to &#8220;manufacture chaos and violence.”  
The violence <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/national-guard-troops-los-angeles-immigration-protests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continued</a> on Sunday afternoon as rioters continued to commit vandalism, throw objects and concrete at law enforcement, set vehicles and dumpsters on fire, and <a href="https://ktla.com/news/local-news/that-can-kill-you-l-a-police-attacked-with-fireworks-rocks-molotov-cocktails/">shoot</a> &#8220;commercial grade fireworks&#8221; at law enforcement. 
&#8220;That can kill you,&#8221; said LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell.

The FBI has <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/seeking-info/assault-on-a-federal-officer-and-damage-to-government-property" target="_blank" rel="noopener">offered</a> a $50,000 reward for a man who threw rocks at law enforcement, injuring a federal officer and damaging federal property.
Law enforcement has arrested dozens of people, and many face assault and vandalism-related charges. LAPD declared an unlawful assembly in downtown L.A. on Sunday night.

Topline: President Trump sends the National Guard to Los Angeles amid violent anti-ICE riots.
Chaos erupted over the weekend in the Los Angeles area as some anti-ICE protesters turned violent after false claims that ICE had conducted a “raid” on a Home Depot in the city of Paramount had circulated after a Home Depot in L.A. had been raided on Friday. To quell the riots, President Trump mobilized and deployed some 2000 members of the National Guard.
By Sunday, things spiraled even further out of control, with hordes of protesters blocking interstates, burning cars, and injuring law enforcement officers. In response, Northern Command said it was ready to send in 500 Marines to help keep the peace. But LA’s Democratic Mayor Karen Bass said federal authorities are making things worse – and that Trump is responsible for the widespread unrest.
“What we&#8217;re seeing in Los Angeles is chaos that is provoked by the administration,” Bass said. “When you raid Home Depot and workplaces, when you tear parents and children apart, and when you run armored caravans through our streets, you cause fear and you cause panic. And deploying federalized troops is a dangerous escalation… I call on all Angelenos to continue expressing your right, your anger, your outrage. But to do it peacefully.”
Dozens of people have been detained throughout the protests, and at least two law enforcement officers have been injured, according to a report from <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/national-guard-troops-los-angeles-immigration-protests/">CBS</a>.
“There were times when things were out of control in this situation and the local law enforcement didn&#8217;t have a total handle on what was going on,” Elex Michaelson, an anchor at FOX News&#8217;s L.A. affiliate, told The Daily Wire on Sunday. “My own colleague on Fox 11, Matthew Seedorf and his photographer, Sam Dubin, were out reporting in Paramount and their vehicle, their news vehicle was destroyed with people punching out the windows – spray-painting “F*** ICE” on it, slashing the tires, stealing stuff from their vehicle – as they were out doing their job. So that&#8217;s an example of criminals taking advantage of a situation and creating chaos.”

Topline: After their public falling out last week, Trump is warning Elon Musk to stay out of the midterm elections as the president pushes forward on the passage of his signature budget bill. 
Elon Musk, who once said he “loved Trump as much as a straight man can love another man,” continued to slam the president over the weekend. While he has deleted some of his most inflammatory remarks on X, including an allegation that Trump was covering up Jeffrey Epstein’s client list to protect himself, he has put out new statements that have drawn more attention to the rift. Musk tweeted Friday that he would “apologize profusely as soon as there is a full dump of the Epstein files.”
Trump responded by calling Musk “the man who has lost his mind” — according to a report from <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/politics/musk-alleged-drug-use-trump">CNN</a> the president asked his aides if the outburst could be related to alleged drug use on Musk’s part, although publicly he has said, “I don’t want to comment on his drug use. I don’t know.. [<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/us/elon-musk-drugs-children-trump.html">The New York Times report</a> on the subject] sounded very unfair.”
Apart from personal digs, Musk could pose a more substantial risk to Trump’s electoral prospects. Writing on X, the billionaire asked his followers if it was &#8220;time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle.&#8221; After his audience responded favorably, Musk said it was “fate” and that he would name it the “America Party.” Musk spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars during the 2024 election cycle, and third-party candidates with his backing could potentially act as spoilers in key races, jeopardizing the Republicans&#8217; narrow majority.
That has gotten Trump’s attention. Speaking to ABC News, the president said Elon will “have to pay very serious consequences” if he funds challenges against Republicans in 2026. 
Allies of both men have publicly and privately called on them to reconcile, but as of now, they remain at odds. President Trump said there was “no reason to” repair the relationship, which he “assumed” was over. However, stranger things have happened – Trump’s current vice president, JD Vance, was <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/jd-vance-once-compared-trump-hitler-now-they-are-running-mates-2024-07-15/">once</a> a “never Trumper” who compared the president to Adolf Hitler years before he became one of his supporters.

Topline: An online debate has erupted between Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines over the question of transgender-identifying athletes competing in women’s sports.
The controversy began when Gaines, a vocal critic of transgender-identifying male athletes competing against women and girls, commented on a social media post from the Minnesota State High School League. The post celebrated Champlin Park High School’s girls’ softball state championship win. However, the team’s star pitcher is a boy who identifies as a girl – and he pitched a shutout in the 6-0 victory. Gaines noted that the team turned its comments off, posting on social media: “To be expected when your star player is a boy.”
Biles weighed in by calling Gaines “truly sick” and a “sore loser,” and she accused Gaines of bullying. But then, despite being known for supporting the “body positivity” movement, she mocked Gaines’ physique, telling Gaines to “bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male.” Gaines is 5’5&#8243;, around average height for a woman.
Interestingly, though, some X users dug up an old<a href="https://x.com/Simone_Biles/status/918328165478666240"> post</a> from Biles in which she acknowledged men’s innate physical advantages over women. In 2017, she wrote, “Good thing guys don&#8217;t compete against girls or he&#8217;d take all the gold medals!!” Gaines also noted Biles and other gymnasts suffered under Larry Nassar, suggesting that the same system that failed them then is now negatively impacting female athletes by putting them in vulnerable positions, like allowing men in their locker rooms.
Both women have received their fair share of support online. With the support for Gaines, there’s a building outcry now for brands like Athleta to drop Biles as an ambassador for female athletes. On the flip side, legacy media and many left-wing pundits voice their support for Biles. There were a number of op-eds, including one from USA Today, cheering her as a hero.
Politically, however, this issue puts Democrats between a rock and a hard place. Many of those fervent and vocal supporters, including celebrities like Biles, are deeply committed to gender ideology and allowing trans-identifying men into women’s sports and women’s spaces. The overwhelming majority disagree – a February 2025 New York Times/Ipsos poll, for example, found that about 80% of respondents believe biological males should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports, including 67% of Democrats and 64% of independents.

National Guard troops will be deployed into Los Angeles County to aid immigration enforcement as protests in the area escalate into attacks on federal immigration officers.
White House border czar Tom Homan appeared on Fox News on Saturday evening to hit back at local officials who have criticized federal immigration operations in the city. Homan said that National Guard troops would be in Los Angeles County by Saturday night to aid immigration enforcement and tamp down unrest.
“This is about enforcing the law and, again, we&#8217;re not going to apologize for doing it. We&#8217;re stepping up,” Homan said. “We’re already ahead of the game. We&#8217;re already mobilizing. We&#8217;re going to bring National Guard in tonight. We&#8217;re going to continue doing our job. We&#8217;re going to push back on these people, and we&#8217;re going to enforce the law.”

President Donald Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114644899133296098">posted</a> on Truth Social Saturday evening that the federal government will “step in” if California officials can not contain the violence engulfing Los Angeles over immigration enforcement operations.
“If Governor Gavin Newscum, of California, and Mayor Karen Bass, of Los Angeles, can’t do their jobs, which everyone knows they can’t, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS &amp; LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!” said Trump.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on X that Trump signed a &#8220;Presidential Memorandum deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen to address the lawlessness that has been allowed to fester.&#8221;

Protesters in and around Los Angeles clashed with immigration officials on Friday and Saturday as federal officials warned protesters not to interfere with ongoing operations. Federal law enforcement in riot gear used tear gas and rubber bullets to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/07/us/la-immigration-raids-ice.html">disperse</a> crowds that descended on some ICE personnel.
&#8220;A message to the LA rioters: you will not stop us or slow us down. @ICEgov will continue to enforce the law. FBI officials are working to identify protesters who attacked the CBP agents.
“We are currently seeking information regarding the identity of the person(s) throwing rocks at vehicles conducting critical law enforcement operations. One of the perpetrators in this video is wearing a helmet, and we’re going to use our investigative tools to locate the individual,” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino <a href="https://x.com/FBIDDBongino/status/1931443283621773508">said</a> on X. “I strongly suggest you turn yourself in, it’s only a matter of time.”
