After just one day of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ordering officers to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-ice-orders-agents-to-cease-all-vehicle-stops-after-recent-shootings?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=EXCLUSIVE%3A+ICE+Orders+Agents+To+Cease+All+Vehicle+Stops+After+Recent+Shootings">temporarily stop making traffic stops</a>, President Donald Trump said he&#8217;d like them to resume, and federal immigration officers are cheering on his push.
The pause on vehicle stops came in the wake of two fatal shootings of migrants by ICE officers in Houston and Maine. ICE said the Houston shooting involved a Mexican illegal immigrant who &#8220;weaponized&#8221; his vehicle against ICE officers. In the Biddeford, Maine, case, an officer fatally shot a Colombian man who &#8220;attempted to flee the scene&#8221; of a traffic stop.
Both incidents are under investigation.
Meanwhile, Trump came out in opposition to the halt, writing on Truth Social Wednesday morning that the move meant ICE was caving to criminals and anti-ICE Democrats.
“The Open Border Policy of Sleepy Joe Biden allowed 25,000,000 people to pour into our Country, unchecked and unvetted,” the president said. “Many were Criminals, and we have to get them out. In order to do this, we must be strong, tough, and smart, and we CANNOT give up one of I.C.E.’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP! Once we do, we are playing right into the criminal’s hands.”
“The Radical Left Dumocrats would like to see this done, but it won’t happen on my watch. I.C.E., be judicious, fair and smart, and go back and do your very important job,” he said. “Keep those Crime Stat Records coming! Remember, you are loved and respected in America.”
Multiple ICE sources told The Daily Wire they have already had difficulties making arrests under the latest pause and are ready to start pulling over vehicles again.
&#8220;I&#8217;m happy,&#8221; one source said in response to Trump&#8217;s post.
&#8220;Hopefully they let us stop soon,&#8221; the source said, adding that it was &#8220;a lot harder&#8221; to make arrests under the pause.
Sources also questioned whether Trump was consulted before the pause was ordered.
&#8220;Not sure how they don&#8217;t consult Trump about this before they send out guidance to every field office,&#8221; one source said.
On Tuesday, Trump&#8217;s border czar Tom Homan credited Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin with making the decision to cease vehicle stops, adding that it wasn&#8217;t &#8220;a policy change&#8221; and just a &#8220;temporary pause.&#8221;
A White House official told The Daily Wire that Trump had officially overturned the freeze on vehicle stops. Sources within ICE, however, say they&#8217;ve yet to receive official orders to resume the tactic.

In <a href="https://x.com/SecMullinDHS/status/2077403133580357895">response</a> to Trump&#8217;s Truth Social post, Mullin said the Department of Homeland Security&#8217;s &#8220;#1 goal is to keep our officers safe and get criminals OFF our streets,&#8221; adding that &#8220;Illegal aliens will be arrested and deported wherever they are.&#8221;
&#8220;If you are here illegally, LEAVE NOW. As our officers carry out operations to enforce our nation&#8217;s laws, they are facing a more than 1,300% increase in vehicle attacks,&#8221; Mullin said.
“We remind illegal aliens attempting to evade arrest is dangerous. This reckless illegal alien activity comes after sanctuary politicians held webinars and shared resources for how to openly defy ICE,&#8221; he added.

A Clinton-appointed federal judge ordered the release of a Cuban national who hijacked a passenger plane in 2003, freeing him from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention after he served more than two decades in prison for his crimes.
Maikel Guerra Morales was released last week despite his role in the hijacking of a Cuban Airlines flight and forcing it to divert from Cuba to Florida. U.S. District Judge John E. Steele said he granted Morales&#8217; petition for release because he&#8217;d been held in ICE custody for too long.
During the hijacking, Morales assaulted the flight crew and forced the pilot to divert the aircraft to Key West, where it was intercepted by fighter jets, according to the New York Post, which cited his release order.
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Morales, who was later convicted of aircraft piracy and conspiracy to interfere with a flight crew.
The Department of Homeland Security blasted Judge Steele&#8217;s decision.
“This activist judge forced ICE to release a criminal illegal alien who was convicted and sentenced to 22 years for hijacking a plane back into American communities,” Homeland Security Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement.
“This is yet another example of an activist judge trying to thwart President Trump’s mandate from the American people to remove criminal illegal aliens from our country. Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, DHS will continue to fight for the detention and removal of criminal illegal aliens who have no right to be in our country,” she added.
DHS said Morales received a deportation order on March 1, 2023, and that ICE took him into custody in December 2025 after he completed his prison sentence.

ICE detainees, like Morales, have been increasingly filing what are known as habeas petitions to get released from detention centers across the country, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrants-found-a-new-way-to-get-released-from-ice-detention">as previously reported</a>.
In March, Timothy Courchaine, United States Attorney for the District of Arizona, told The Daily Wire that his office had gone from receiving 10 habeas petitions in immigration cases to “nearly a thousand” since Trump&#8217;s second term began.
“It is definitely a new trend … Now, those aren’t all just the bond hearings, but that’s the vast, vast, vast majority,” Courchaine told The Daily Wire.
“In most of them, they are [granting bond] … so we’ve been losing almost all of these and the folks will be released,” he added.
Immigration lawyers resort to filing habeas petitions after it becomes clear that their clients either have no chance of obtaining bond from immigration judges or have already been denied bond.
Scott Mechkowski, former ICE deputy field office director in New York, likened it to taking “two bites of the apple &#8230; because you essentially have the immigration judges already rendered that that person’s on bond eligible or not going to give them a bond.”

Federal immigration officers across the country have been told to stop pulling over vehicles after recent shootings in Maine and Texas.
Three Homeland Security sources told The Daily Wire Tuesday that they were told &#8220;no more vehicle stops for now.&#8221; The new directive has the potential to massively impact ICE&#8217;s ability to make arrests, as officers often prefer to catch targets during traffic stops rather than at suspects&#8217; homes, where illegal immigrants could have access to weapons. Officers also need a judicial warrant to enter a suspect&#8217;s home without their permission, but no such restriction exists for traffic stops.
&#8220;Numbers are going down, we can&#8217;t do sh*t,&#8221; an agency source fumed.
An ICE spokesperson said the agency is &#8220;always evaluating our procedures to keep our officers safe and criminals off our streets,&#8221; adding that &#8220;We will not disclose or discuss law enforcement tactics.&#8221;
The latest change provides limited exceptions when officers have a criminal warrant, with the agency saying that they must work with outside agencies to pull over the target.
The pause comes a day after a 26-year-old Colombian man was fatally shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers as they were trying to pull over his vehicle in Biddeford, Maine.
Maine Sen. Angus King (I-ME) said Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told him the man who was shot was not the person ICE was trying to arrest, according to CNN. King was walking back a previous statement where he claimed that Mullin said the deceased man was ICE&#8217;s target.
In a statement Monday, ICE said the driver, who was shot and killed, &#8220;attempted to flee&#8221; and that the officer who fired their weapon was &#8220;fearing for public safety.&#8221;
“The driver of the vehicle was struck, and emergency services were immediately contacted. He passed away from his injuries,” ICE said.
Unlike during prior traffic stops-turned-shootings, ICE did not claim that the man shot and killed by officers tried to hit them with his vehicle, and emphasized that the incident is still under investigation. The deceased man&#8217;s identity has yet to be released.
The Biddeford Police Department and the FBI responded to the scene, while DHS&#8217; Office of Inspector General was “notified&#8221; of the incident, ICE said.
“This is a developing situation, and we will update the public when more information is available,” ICE said.
Last Tuesday, an ICE officer in Houston fatally shot Mexican illegal immigrant Lorenzo Salgado Araujo while conducting a vehicle stop. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Araujo wasn&#8217;t their original target, but claimed that he &#8220;weaponized&#8221; his vehicle and tried to run over an officer, prompting one to fire &#8220;in self-defense.&#8221;
Anti-ICE protesters have taken to the streets in Texas and Maine to express their outrage over the latest shootings. Demonstrators attempted to storm Sen. Susan Collins’ (R-ME) office Monday, shouting “vote her out.”

The agency, which waited nearly 12 hours after the shooting to release any details, said that the incident took place around 7 a.m. local time when agents were &#8220;conducting targeted surveillance on the last known address of an illegal alien with a final order of removal.&#8221;
An illegal immigrant left the residence in a vehicle before ICE agents &#8220;attempted to conduct a vehicle stop.&#8221; When the driver &#8220;attempted to flee,&#8221; an officer &#8220;fearing for public safety&#8221; then fired his weapon, ICE said.
“The driver of the vehicle was struck, and emergency services were immediately contacted. He passed away from his injuries,&#8221; ICE said.

Local officials earlier identified the suspect as a 26-year-old Colombian man, but did not reveal his name.

Authorities released an Uzbek trucker who couldn&#8217;t speak English after he allegedly killed a star college soccer goalie.
The crash occurred on July 5, when <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/foreign-trucker-who-couldnt-speak-english-accused-of-killing-college-soccer-star">Bekhzod Asrarov</a>, 42, rammed his semi-truck into the back of University of Massachusetts Lowell men’s soccer goalie Tobias Christopher Forsythe’s vehicle on Interstate 71 in Madison County, Ohio.
Asrarov is charged with tampering with evidence after he &#8220;ripped out his dash cam and hid it in his pocket,&#8221; Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said, adding that the trucker &#8220;failed his English language proficiency test&#8221; and that &#8220;state troopers had to use Google Translate to talk to him.&#8221;
Local prosecutors said more charges could be coming after the completion of crash reconstruction and toxicology reports.
Last week, Asrarov was released from jail without bond, <a href="https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/madison-county/truck-driver-in-madison-county-crash-that-killed-gahanna-graduate-released-without-bond/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to NBC4. He was given an ankle monitor before walking free.
Asrarov&#8217;s defense argued that the Uzbek national was in the country legally, maintained residence in Maineville, Ohio, had no criminal record, and maintained a &#8220;flawless&#8221; driving history, according to NBC4.
The trucker entered the United States legally in 2024 and was granted a green card by the Biden administration, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told The Daily Wire.
Forsythe played for Ashland University and Shawnee State University, where he started all 17 games during the 2025 season before joining the UMass Lowell team in 2026. The 21-year-old was also an economics major.
&#8220;We cannot let truckers like Asrarov, who can’t read our road signs or speak to law enforcement, drive 80,000-pound rigs on America’s highways,&#8221; Duffy said on X Tuesday.
&#8220;I am praying for Toby’s family and loved ones after this horrible loss. We will never stop fighting to keep these dangerous truck drivers OFF THE ROAD so no other parents have to endure this unimaginable grief,&#8221; Duffy added.
The head coach of the UMass Lowell men’s soccer program, Kyle Zenoni, described Forsythe as an incredible student-athlete and an &#8220;even better person.&#8221;
&#8220;He was humble, honest, selfless, and the definition of hard work,&#8221; Zenoni said in a previous statement.
&#8220;Every single day, he showed up ready to compete, improve, and do whatever was asked of him. He never looked for shortcuts and never expected anything to be given to him — he simply wanted the opportunity to earn it,&#8221; Zenoni added.

In one recent incident, a Haitian semi-truck driver allegedly killed a Pennsylvania state trooper in a devastating crash. The Biden administration allowed the foreign trucker into the United States through its signature humanitarian parole program, which allowed migrants to fly directly into the country and bypass the border, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/illegal-immigrant-truck-driver-charged-death-trooper-who-moved-home-care-mom-cancer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Fox News.
The Haitian illegal immigrant later received a Massachusetts commercial driver&#8217;s license, allowing him to work as a truck driver, the outlet reported.

Mamdani’s administration is not only pro-immigrant but pro-illegal immigration. In his speech for America’s 250th birthday, he highlighted immigrant struggles including the &#8220;laws enacted by the federal government to bar their entry.&#8221; Mamdani’s administration has passed stronger sanctuary city policies, including an executive order that prohibits ICE from entering city property.

An illegal immigrant from Haiti is accused of chasing his coworker with a knife before fatally stabbing him at a meat processing plant in Coldwater, Michigan.
Haitian national Valmir Djempsley, 20, and Brandon Eduardo Velasquez Chavez, 21, were arguing while on the job together at Clemens Food Group on June 30 when the illegal immigrant ran after Chavez with a knife, News Channel 3 <a href="https://wwmt.com/news/local/coldwater-stabbing-clemens-food-group-argument-arrest-court-arraignment-crime-investigation-police-branch-county-west-michigan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, citing witness accounts. Prosecutors say Djempsley stabbed Chavez in the back, killing him at the scene.
Djempsley told investigators Chavez had been using his assigned knife and attempted to head-butt him while returning it. Police said no witnesses corroborated that account.
&#8220;From what I know right now, the knives are identified by the employees. They are given numbers, and they&#8217;re given to employees by that, and there was a dispute over a knife,&#8221; Coldwater Public Safety Director Joe Scheid told News Channel 3.
Djempsley entered the country illegally in Texas in 2024 and was released into the United States under the Biden administration, <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2026/07/08/ice-asks-michigan-not-release-haitian-illegal-alien-arrested-killing-his-coworker" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Department of Homeland Security. News Channel 3 reported that Djempsley had authorization to work in the United States.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since lodged a detainer requesting that local authorities transfer Djempsley into federal custody for deportation.
“This illegal alien barbarically stabbed his coworker to death,” Acting Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement Wednesday. “This murderer was released into American communities by the Biden Administration.&#8221;
&#8220;If it weren’t for the reckless open border policies of the Biden Administration, this criminal never would have been in our country in the first place and his victim would still be alive. We have lodged a detainer asking Michigan to not release this dangerous criminal from jail without notifying ICE,&#8221; Bis added.
Djempsley pleaded not guilty to his open murder charge, broke down in tears during his arraignment, and was denied bond, according to News Channel 3.
Branch County Prosecutor Victor Fitz told News Channel 3 that his office will seek the maximum sentence if Djempsley is convicted.

An Uzbek truck driver who couldn&#8217;t speak English allegedly killed a star college soccer goalie over the weekend after the Biden administration let him into the country, according to Fox News.

WASHINGTON — A Kuwaiti man who obtained a green card in the U.S. is being sent home after he called America &#8220;the enemy&#8221; and expressed support for terrorists.
Tareq Alkhudari entered the country on a non-immigrant student visa in 2014 to attend San Jose State University, a source familiar with the situation said. He gained lawful permanent resident status in November 2024, but is now in federal custody pending removal from the United States after Secretary of State Marco Rubio terminated his legal status. 
In posts from his Instagram and Bluesky accounts, Alkhudari repeatedly expresses disdain for the United States and white people. In December 2025, he posted a cartoon of a brown-skinned individual preparing to set fire to the American-flag-cape draped over the shoulders of a woman dressed in red, white, and blue.

In an Instagram post about his plans to travel home to Kuwait before President Donald Trump launched Operation Epic Fury, Alkhudari blames &#8220;Isntreal and Amerika&#8221; for the &#8220;instability&#8221; and says those countries are responsible even if an Iranian missile kills him.

As he lamented reports of a deal between Iran and the United States, Alkhudari posted a photo of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Trump, saying: &#8220;Hope whatever the other carries is contagious and they both perish from a comet striking them just before they take their final breaths suffocating on white phosphorous [sic] and their own blood.&#8221;
He also railed against &#8220;incessant Amerikan and zionist expansion proxy warfare, sectarian fragmentation, and the normalization of colonial presences across the region.&#8221;
&#8220;The Trump administration will never allow foreigners who denigrate our great nation to abuse the hospitality of the United States and remain on American soil,&#8221; a State Department official shared. 
“This foreign national wished harm on our president, referred to America as &#8216;the enemy,&#8217; and voiced support for foreign terror organizations,&#8221; the official added. &#8220;Foreign nationals who echo propaganda from foreign adversaries while residing in the United States should expect to find themselves on a deportation flight. They must return home.”

Alkhudari also expressed an intense hatred of Americans, even those who agreed with his political causes.
&#8220;You satiate your desperations from theatrical representations with more American consumerism, as the country continues its planned genocides, colonization, and exploitation of Black, Brown, and indigenous bodies,&#8221; he wrote in a post on Bluesky.
Another post slams Westerners who &#8220;identify as pro-Palestine&#8221; but don&#8217;t understand why Iran is targeting American bases in the Middle East, saying that these Westerners are &#8220;exposing the limits of their political literacy and nature of their performativity.&#8221;
&#8220;There is no point walking them through it,&#8221; he writes. &#8220;It&#8217;s fruitless labor. Imagine explaining sectarianism to a white Amerikan who roots for Francesca Albanese and thinks Pierce [sic] Morgan&#8217;s sympathy signifies change&#8230;If one cannot situate the Zionist entity within the broader architecture of regional militarization and normalization, the confusion is self imposed.&#8221;
In a Kuwaiti newspaper article, Alkhudari tears into New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, arguing that Mamdani is not radical enough and &#8220;came from the heart of the American liberal establishment and enjoyed the support of white feminist movements and liberal normalizers whose true loyalty remained with the American colonial system, even if they wore the mask of &#8216;progress and civilization.'&#8221;
And as he reflected on how Americans are beginning to view the Palestinian cause and what freedom means to him, he questions: &#8220;Does it mean a state alongside the occupier? Or does it mean dismantling the existing entity and establishing a single, just state on all of the land? Eyes are beginning to open to the fact that among them are normalization advocates and traitors hiding behind masks of freedom.&#8221;

The Supreme Court just ruled in favor of birthright citizenship. The decision has ignited an age-old debate at the center of the immigration issue: how much can a nation reasonably allow without becoming unstable? Where do we draw the line?
Unchecked immigration has risen to the top of the public consciousness in Great Britain and much of Western Europe, as years of mass migration from the Islamic world has taken a visible toll on British society.
Earlier this month, a <a href="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6810978a41bbc42489eafa81/t/6a314bb1151e511944bd4421/1781615537601/The+Rape+Gang+Inquiry+Report.pdf">report</a> was released documenting the widespread sexual assault and rape of underage girls throughout the United Kingdom by Islamist Pakistani gangs.
I wish I was surprised by the lax media coverage that this report has received. Unfortunately, the reason for its poor coverage is much the same as why this was allowed to happen in the first place.
The report details how “fear of being labelled ‘racist’ paralysed the Metropolitan Police and City Hall.” Simply put, fear of espousing an anti-immigrant sentiment drove people to silence on a tragedy of the highest order. Not long before the report surfaced, U.K. independent journalist Derek Heggie was <a href="https://x.com/RadioGenoa/status/1901321397546197119">jailed</a> for “grossly offensive” comments stating that “young white girls are being raped by these grooming gangs that worship the Prophet Muhammad.”
The British police and children’s centers consistently looked the other way and allowed the abuse to fester. <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/u-k-grooming-gangs-report-finds-perpetrators-disproportionately-pakistani-undermining-official-narrative/">62% of convicted offenders</a> in Rotherham were Pakistani Muslims, a demographic which makes up just 4% of the local population.
Victims overwhelmingly reported that they were regularly told by their abusers that they “deserved punishment” because they were white girls. They were consistently lambasted with racial and religious slurs during their abuse. A victim testified that “being white was repeatedly used as a justification for the abuse or to minimise or dismiss the harm being inflicted.”
To suggest that this atrocity was not the result of a barbaric culture is dreadfully ignorant at best and criminally disingenuous at worst. The U.K. allowed the mass immigration of a violent, supremacist, and animalistic populace of Islamic extremists under the grounds of diversity and multiculturalism. When this inevitably brought tragedy, authorities stood by and did nothing.
From the punishments that the abusers must face to the responsibility of the authorities to the borderline authoritarian government that allowed Heggie to be jailed not only for speech, but for true speech, it is hard to know where to begin in directing criticism. For now, the focus should be on what lessons we Americans can take from the U.K. so that we can prevent its like from ever occurring here in the United States.
Amidst the recent election of extremist candidates in cities with heavy immigrant populations, Trump administration staffer Stephen Miller posted on social media, “Change the voters, change the country.” The New Republic immediately <a href="https://newrepublic.com/post/212309/stephen-miller-dog-whistle-ny-new-york-city-democratic-primary-mamdani">reported</a> this as a “dog whistle” and slammed Miller for racism.
If we step back for a minute, though, it would be patently absurd to label his statement untrue. In a democracy (one would hope), the will of the people is the driving force behind the nature of the country. If you bring in masses of people with different will, the country will change — for better or for worse. To suggest otherwise is foolish.
The consequences of this mistake are not easily undone. Once you have imported a massive voting population that is hostile toward your culture, it is impossible to exorcise them from your society.
Too often, we are taught to laud the institution of democracy for its own sake. Democracy without a culture of liberalism and freedom is worthless. Just ask the Gazans and their democratically elected government.
While Europe&#8217;s problem is highly analogous to our country’s illegal immigration problem, what Miller gets wrong is that the troubles facing us are simply not the same as those facing Europe. For one, there is no serious evidence to support the claim that legally residing immigrants commit crimes at higher rates than native born Americans.
A 2019 <a href="https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/pubs/pdf/ib_10.pdf">study</a> from the Cato Institute found that 75% of first-generation immigrants were “very proud” to be Americans — over and above the 69% of native-born Americans. Immigrants have also historically <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/336773572_Immigrants'_Confidence_in_the_Police_An_Examination_of_Generational_and_Ethnic_Differences_in_the_United_States">reported</a> higher levels of respect for American law enforcement.
How many immigrants did you see participating in the 2020 BLM riots? Some, I’m sure, but their numbers paled in comparison to overprivileged white liberal teenagers. Zoe, the blue-haired leftist with 12 piercings and a face tattoo, is a far greater threat to our liberal order than Eduardo, the Cuban immigrant looking to build a business and start a family.
The opposite is true of Western Europe. Islamic immigrants pour into Britain and France, bringing with them radical ideologies and an unwillingness to assimilate.
We are a country of immigrants. There has been a recent push from protectionist factions on the right to argue otherwise. This is fundamentally untrue.
Forty percent of all Americans <a href="https://www.nps.gov/npnh/learn/news/fact-sheet-elis.htm">trace</a> their ancestry directly through Ellis Island. One in four Americans is either a first or second-generation immigrant. This is nothing new. In the year 1900, that <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/chart/immigrant-share-of-population/">figure</a> was greater than 1 in 3. Even in the country&#8217;s earliest days, 14.3% of Declaration signers and 18% of Constitution signers were <a href="https://declaration.fas.harvard.edu/faq/how-many-signers-were-born-american-colonies">born overseas</a>.
By all conceivable metrics, immigration has been, and remains, a foundational element of American identity.
With that said, it is in no way racist to screen for ideology in the immigration process. In fact, it is the epitome of common sense. Holding radical Islamist beliefs makes you incompatible with Western society. President Trump’s effort to implement ideological screening in 2023 was met with a visceral reaction from the Left. He was particularly berated for his statement, “If you hate America, if you want to abolish Israel, if you sympathize with jihadists, then we don’t want you in our country.” 
We can stop pretending like this is anything other than a normal thing to say. News flash: nonradical minorities don’t want to share fences with extremists either. This was evidenced by Trump’s strong showing with Hispanic voters despite his constant rhetoric against illegal and anti-American immigration. The same is true for Muslims who abhor violence and terrorism. It is a sweeping (perhaps racist) generalization to become offended on their behalf when the president calls out their vitriolic counterparts.
Immigrants who bring hatred and anti-Americanism with them are a dangerous plague.
There is something rather telling about the popular leftist argument that anti-Western immigrants have suffered at the hands of “Western imperialism” and are therefore “owed” entry into the United States. The very fact that left-wingers view these immigrants as our just desserts for past misgivings betrays an understanding that this type of immigration is a curse rather than a blessing upon Western society.
Our immigration problem is orders of magnitude smaller than Britain’s, but it is real. We must take their failures as earnest warnings not to let a great strength devolve into a crippling weakness.

The administration was never going to win the birthright citizenship case before the Supreme Court. Changing something as fundamental as our current practices regarding membership in the national community shouldn’t be changed by executive order.
But the real losers from Tuesday’s decision are the American people.
That’s because the high court didn’t just strike down Trump’s January 2025 executive order on “<a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/protecting-the-meaning-and-value-of-american-citizenship/">Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship.</a>” Rather, by a 5-4 vote, it said that Congress did not have the authority to change our current practice of granting U.S. citizenship to almost everyone born here, even children born to tourists, foreign students, visa workers, or illegal aliens. This removes the issue from normal democratic politics.
The only way to reform the rules now is a constitutional amendment. But that requires a two-thirds vote of both houses of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of the state legislatures — so at a time when Republicans have a tiny House majority, and Democrats are sending literal communists to Washington, D.C., it’s a safe bet that this ruling will be with us for a while.
Mass Deportation
So what are the likely policy consequences?
First, the ruling gives added urgency to the administration’s rhetorical push for large-scale deportations. The Biden administration let in at least eight million illegal aliens, thousands of whom have had automatic U.S.-citizen children here, with more born every day. The fact of U.S.-born children gives illegal aliens no automatic right to stay, but it creates “equities” that make it politically more difficult to send people home.
This means the “worst of the worst” talk from the administration has to end, or at least be supplemented by aggressive, high-profile moves to force non-rapist illegals out of the country as well. This means dramatically stepped-up <a href="https://cis.org/Arthur/Want-Mass-Deportations-You-Need-Briefcase-Enforcement#:~:text=%25E2%2580%259C-,Worksite%2520Enforcement,-%25E2%2580%259D">work-related enforcement</a> needs to happen, now. That would involve raids of worksites, for sure, but also paperwork measures, what I call “<a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/op-eds/4443244/body-armor-vs-briefcase-immigration-enforcement/">briefcase enforcement</a>,&#8221; involving not just DHS, but also the IRS and the Social Security administration.
Most illegal aliens aren’t dealing drugs or killing people — so why would they decide to self-deport if all the talk is about violent and dangerous illegals? There has indeed been some self-deportation, but the only way to scale it up is to make it impractical to live here illegally by locking illegals out of jobs, driver’s licenses, financial services (bank accounts, remittances, mortgages), etc.
In some of these areas, the administration has moved aggressively — Treasury Secretary <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0523">Scott Bessent</a> has been especially active in his bailiwick. But flushing illegal aliens out of the job market has to be the main objective; it’s something the administration has been loath to do — and that impulse is coming from the top. Maybe this week’s setback at the Supreme Court will focus the White House’s attention on the urgency of worksite enforcement.
Birth Tourism
The citizenship ruling has implications for legal admissions, as well. One issue that has finally been getting attention is <a href="https://cis.org/CIS/Birth-Tourism-Facts-and-Recommendations">birth tourism</a>. Thousands of foreign women every year come to the United States on tourist visas to give birth, and then return home with their newly minted-on-paper U.S. citizens. Those children are raised entirely abroad, with no instruction in American history or traditions, and certainly no patriotic education — in many cases, quite the opposite, since some of the top sources of birth tourists are <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/white-house/4631007/trump-congratulates-china-xi-on-supreme-court-birthright-citizenship-win/">communist China</a>, <a href="https://apnews.com/general-news-travel-161a0db2666044dc8d42932edd9b9ce6">Russia</a>, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/travel/american-officials-warn-nigerian-women-against-birth-tourism">Nigeria</a>, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-edny/pr/turkish-national-sentenced-27-months-orchestrating-birth-tourism-health-care-fraud">Turkey</a>, and elsewhere. Peter Schweizer, in his recent book &#8220;<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Coup-American-Foreign-Immigration/dp/0063422506">The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon</a>,&#8221; estimates there may be as many as <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/01/29/opinion/how-china-supercharged-birth-tourism-and-scammed-american-citizenship-for-up-to-1-5-million-babies/">1.5 million</a> paper U.S. citizens living in China as a consequence of birth tourism. I suspect the number isn’t that high, but there’s no question it’s a large-scale problem.
The <a href="https://africa.businessinsider.com/local/markets/us-says-it-dismantled-birth-tourism-networks-in-africa-and-europe-revokes-hundreds-of/5fn9vrk">State Department</a> and <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/12/us-news/ice-launches-new-effort-to-crack-down-on-us-birth-tourism-schemes/">ICE</a> have already been cracking down on birth tourism networks here and abroad, but more is needed. Now that reform of our citizenship rules is off the table, pregnant women are going to have to be barred from traveling to the United States on tourist, student, or work visas.
That means, for starters, the State Department visa form needs to add a question asking whether the applicant is pregnant, which it does not do now. What’s more, the regulations governing visa issuance now handcuff consular officers in this regard. <a href="https://fam.state.gov/fam/09fam/09fam040202.html#:~:text=you%2520must%2520not%2520ask%2520a%2520visa%2520applicant">They read</a>:

You must not ask a visa applicant whether they are pregnant unless you have a specific articulable reason to believe they may be pregnant and planning to give birth in the United States. … You must not, as a matter of course, ask all female applicants (or any specific sub-sets of applicants) whether they are pregnant or intend to become pregnant; you also may not require B NIV [tourist or business-travel] applicants to provide evidence that they are not pregnant.
</blockquote>
This has to change.
Tourists aren’t the only temporary visitors whose children born here are accorded citizenship. Each year, hundreds of thousands of foreign students and workers are admitted on temporary visas, and the longer they remain, the more of them will have children here. For instance, the tech industry’s open-borders lobbying group estimated a few years ago that there were more than <a href="https://www.fwd.us/news/h-4-work-authorization/#:~:text=all%252C%2520more%2520than-,175%252C000%2520H%252D4%2520spouses,-live%2520in%2520the">175,000 spouses</a> of H-1B visa holders in the U.S., overwhelmingly women of childbearing age. Their visa designation is H-4, and the Supreme Court has made a strong case for abolishing the H-4 visa altogether, prohibiting the South Indian male tech workers who account for the lion’s share of H-1B visas from bringing their families.
Some have even suggested the president use his absolute exclusion authority under sec. 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act to simply bar the admission of all women of child-bearing age from coming on temporary (i.e. nonimmigrant, non-green-card) visas.
Would it be better to be more open to foreign tourists and other temporary visitors? I think so. But in an age of cheap and easy transportation and communication, you can have either tight citizenship rules with more openness to the outside world, or loose citizenship rules and less openness. This week’s Supreme Court ruling pushes us toward the latter.

Joe Biden opened the border.
Donald Trump closed the border, and the Supreme Court just ruled that is okay.
The Left and the legacy media are going insanely crazy. They say the Supreme Court is now a Right-wing tool as an evil stand-in for vicious racism.
Yesterday, two Supreme Court decisions came down, both 6-3. It was the Republican appointees on the Court versus the Democratic appointees. The first decision concerned people seeking asylum at the US-Mexico border. The other had to do with the Trump administration labeling countries like Syria and Haiti as dangerous for the purposes of deporting people here on temporary protected status.
Before we get to the content of these decisions, we first need to understand what the Supreme Court does. Why is that important?
Because the Left wants the Supreme Court to be a thing it is not. They yell at the Supreme Court when it doesn&#8217;t do what they want.

What is the Court supposed to do? It does not make policy, good or bad. It does not decide what the policy is, good or bad. That&#8217;s why we elect a Congress and a president. It&#8217;s why the Supreme Court is an unelected branch of government: its job is to interpret what the law means and decide what the law says.
It doesn&#8217;t get to say, “We read the law. That was bad. Now we&#8217;re overturning the law and putting a new law in its place.&#8221;
Going back to the 1930s, the Left decided the Supreme Court ought to act as a super-legislature, a group of really smart people who can simply rewrite policy they don&#8217;t like into good Left-wing policy.
In fact, what they want is for the Supreme Court to say that when the president or Congress does Left-wing things, that&#8217;s legal. When the president or Congress does Right-wing things, that&#8217;s illegal.
But that&#8217;s not the job of the Supreme Court. And yesterday, the Supreme Court did its job.
It doesn&#8217;t matter whether you agree with what the Trump administration actually did at the US-Mexico border or with Haitian migrants. It is not the job of the Supreme Court to agree or disagree with such action. The question is, under our Constitution, who has the authority to do what?
The Supreme Court said that the Trump administration acted within its legally defined purview and that it could not simply overrule it based on whether it liked it or not. If you don&#8217;t like the policy, elect a different Congress or a different president.
These things became Supreme Court cases because of a long history of bad legislation. And then presidents take advantage of bad legislation, which is the story of congressional-presidential relations since Woodrow Wilson.
Congress would pass vague laws. Presidents would take advantage of that in order to maximize their own power.
Let&#8217;s start with the first decision. It was called Mullin v. Al Otro Lado. In 2016, the Obama administration set up a process called metering. There was heavy migration at the southern border, as you recall, and until 2016, if you were a non-citizen seeking asylum at a port of entry on the U.S.-Mexico border, you crossed into U.S. soil and then had to wait in line for inspection.
At that point, we had a legal duty to listen to you. And most people would come and claim asylum. They would claim they couldn&#8217;t return to their home country due to a specific threat.
That is a different thing from temporary protected status; asylum requires you to show that you face a specific threat. You can&#8217;t just say, “I want to come here because my home country sucks.” In order for that to be adjudicated, you would come, wait in line for inspection at a port of entry, and once you were on American soil, we had a duty to actually listen to your asylum claim.
Toward the end of the Obama administration, there were so many people arriving at the border trying to get in that the government approved something called a metering policy, under which border agents would basically stand at the border and say, “Don&#8217;t come in. You don&#8217;t have travel documents or a visa. The port of entry is full. Come back later. You stay there.”
Why did they do that? Because the law says you only have to process people who are in the country. If you don&#8217;t come in, we have no legal duty to process you. The first Trump administration expanded and formalized the metering policy, and then the Biden administration rescinded it.
And then they went even further. They said, “Welcome to the border. Claim asylum and say the magic words, ‘I fear for my life, and I can&#8217;t go back to my home country,’ and we&#8217;ll let you basically run around in the United States and stay forever.”
So the Trump administration, Part II came in and said, “No, no. No metering policy back in place. You&#8217;re going to wait over there, and we will not process you. The border is closed. It&#8217;s not a matter of whether the ports of entry are full. You&#8217;re not coming in. Period. And if you&#8217;re not on American soil, we have no duty to you. “
If you don&#8217;t like that policy, you can vote for Democrats to go back to the Biden way of passing laws. Or you could rewrite the law so that people who apply for citizenship have to remain in Mexico, the Trump “Remain in Mexico” policy. Or theoretically, you could rewrite the law so that everyone who applies for citizenship, no matter where they are, has to be given an asylum hearing, even if they don&#8217;t come into the United States, and we don&#8217;t have a duty to house them.
There are a bunch of ways you could do this. But that&#8217;s what Congress exists for.
The role of the various branches of government is important. You elect people to change the policy. The Supreme Court is here to interpret what the law currently says, not what it should say or who should be elected.
The plaintiffs in this case are a group of non-citizens.
They were trying to get into the United States, and they say that their rights were violated because their asylum cases were never heard, because they were in line, and that is as good as being in the country. They never entered the United States. They were turned away at the border.
In a decision written by Justice Samuel Alito, the Court said, “No. ‘In the United States’ means in the United States. You&#8217;re not in the United States if you&#8217;re waiting on the other side of the border.”
Justice Thomas wrote a concurrence, which said something further: that Congress has no power to force the president to bring aliens into the country. He said the Constitution allows Congress the power to regulate who doesn&#8217;t get to come in. But the Constitution does not specify a certain number of people who must be allowed into the country. Also, said Thomas, the people in this case are neither naturalized nor on the path to naturalization. You have no rights under the U.S. Constitution if you do not live in the country, if you are not on the path to naturalization, or if you&#8217;ve never entered the country.
In the more controversial case involving Haitian migrants, the only reason it reached the Supreme Court is that Congress passed an incredibly vague law that handed tremendous authority to the president. And then various presidents deliberately abused the law in various ways.
In 1990, Congress passed something called the Immigration Act. One of the provisions of the Immigration Act is something called Temporary Protected Status. The idea is, you come to the United States on a travel visa, you&#8217;re tooling around, and suddenly your home country goes nuts. There&#8217;s a coup, terrorists take over; you could be given temporary protected status by the executive branch.
At the time, Congress designated one country and one country only, El Salvador, as a country where things were so dangerous that you didn&#8217;t have to be deported back to your home country, even if you were, for example, overstaying your visa.
So what happened? Over the course of decades, the list of countries that became dangerous expanded, and the borders opened.
The Obama and Biden administrations used TPS to radically change immigration law. They would open the borders, bring in a bunch of people from crappy countries, label all those home countries dangerous, and now those people could stay forever.
The average temporary protected status holder in the United States has been here for 20 years.
So the Trump administration said, “It&#8217;s supposed to be temporary. It&#8217;s in the word temporary.”
Democrats are saying, “No, no, no, the focus should be on ‘protected.&#8217;’’
There are now 17 countries from which people are protected from going home. The Trump administration came in and they declared that a bunch of these countries are no longer dangerous for the purpose of deporting people. Those countries include places like Venezuela, Honduras, Nicaragua, Yemen, South Sudan, Haiti, Syria, Somalia, and Ethiopia.
I want to be clear about what&#8217;s factual and what&#8217;s not factual. Many of these countries are wildly dangerous; Haiti is one. It is the most dangerous country in the Western Hemisphere by a long shot. Five thousand and five hundred people were murdered in Haiti last year alone. Sex trafficking is rampant. Gangs basically run the place. It is now a hellhole.
But here&#8217;s what happened. Democrats are claiming that temporary protected status is a one-way ratchet; a president can legalize vast swaths of illegal immigration by labeling a country dangerous. But then a subsequent president cannot relabel that country unless there&#8217;s a showing that the country is not dangerous.
The question is what tools did the Trump administration have under the law?
According to stats from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS as well as the Congressional Research Service), in 2010, there were between 50,000 and 70,000 Haitian TPS holders. Sixteen years later, there were between 330,000 and 350,000 Haitian TPS holders. And remember, all these people have kids, and those kids are natural-born citizens of the United States.
So the Supreme Court had to decide whether or not the president can label Syria and Haiti non-dangerous for purposes of deportation. So Justice Alito wrote, “In these cases, we consider whether respondents who challenge the termination of temporary protected status for aliens from Syria and Haiti are entitled to orders postponing the terminations during litigation. We hold they are not. The TPS statute plainly bars consideration of respondents’ non-constitutional claims and allows ‘no judicial review’ of any determination with respect to the termination of a TPS designation.”
You might not like how the Trump administration is using the law, but the law says what the law says.
If Congress wishes to designate Haiti as a country covered by TPS in law, it can do so. They can define how long people can stay; they can define how people are deported.
But that&#8217;s not what they did. In this law, Justice Thomas said that Congress barred all judicial review of TPS termination decisions, including constitutional claims. Courts are obliged to simply give effect to the ordinary meaning of the law.
Democrats are going to call Republicans cruel. Republicans are going to say, “We should not be taking in hundreds of thousands of people illegally and then backfilling that with a TPS designation.”
The Court isn&#8217;t the problem here. If you don&#8217;t like the law, change the law.
Attacking the Court for simply interpreting the law as written is ugly stuff.
