A convicted pedophile and illegal migrant was released from a Connecticut prison last month after his sympathetic parole board mulled how to best help him avoid deportation.
The Trump administration, the parole board decided, would not be able to get its act together fast enough to deport the illegal migrant pedophile before his 30-day immigration detainer runs out. &#8220;They can&#8217;t elect a Speaker of the House,&#8221; one board member scoffed.
Guerino Magloire, 52, was <a href="http://www.ctinmateinfo.state.ct.us/detailsupv.asp?id_inmt_num=255393" target="_blank" rel="noopener">serving</a> five years in prison for felony second degree sexual assault against a child between 13 and 15 years old. He was convicted of sexually assaulting the child on March 11, 2020, just as pandemic lockdowns were starting, and he was sentenced in November the next year.
During his parole <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RluWJ6xkhQo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hearing</a> on New Year&#8217;s Eve, Magloire said he cannot promise he will not offend again.
&#8220;I can&#8217;t say I promise that it&#8217;s not going to happen because that&#8217;s not always a thing, when you say, &#8216;Oh I promise,'&#8221; Magloire told the parole board. &#8220;No, I&#8217;m not going to say I promise, but I will definitely try to do my best, my best to keep myself away from situations like that again.&#8221;
Magloire scored as a moderate to high risk on an evaluation <a href="https://www.sog.unc.edu/sites/default/files/course_materials/3.0%20Static-99R-Coding-Form_0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">used</a> to predict whether a male sexual offender will reoffend.
Despite those red flags, the parole board released him that day from Carl Robinson Correctional Institution north of Hartford.

Magloire is in the country illegally. He came to the United States from Haiti in 1984 when he was 11 and currently has an immigration detainer, meaning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is ready to deport him as soon as he is released from prison.
His parole board lamented the situation. The board <a href="https://portal.ct.gov/bopp/bopp_front-_pages/common-elements/about-us/meet-the-parole-board" target="_blank" rel="noopener">included</a> two women, Rufaro <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/rufaro-berry-a1316b144/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Berry</a> and Deborah Smith-<a href="https://www.notredamehs.com/about/leadership?id=3750" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Palmieri</a>, and one man, Michael Pohl.
&#8220;Unfortunately the person who&#8217;s taking over our current administration, he&#8217;s going to make sure that people like yourself are deported back,&#8221; Berry told Magloire. &#8220;It&#8217;s unfortunate that I think that the moment that we say that you&#8217;re going to be granted, or if we grant your discretionary parole, the process will begin.&#8221;
&#8220;I want to be perfectly clear,&#8221; she told the convict. &#8220;If we grant your discretionary parole today, you&#8217;ll be transported to a halfway house where you&#8217;ll wait for ICE to pick you up, and you will be returned. You won&#8217;t reunite with your family. That&#8217;s not going to happen, sir.&#8221;
&#8220;Oh, so they&#8217;re going to take me right back?&#8221; Magloire asked.
&#8220;They&#8217;re going to take you right back in a matter of days,&#8221; Berry responded.
&#8220;So even though the country is in turmoil the way it is?&#8221; he said.
&#8220;That&#8217;s not our concern. That&#8217;s out of our control,&#8221; she said.
Magloire shook his head.
&#8220;Yeah,&#8221; Berry said.
Berry suggested Magloire might have a better chance of fighting his deportation detainer in prison than if he is &#8220;sent out of the country and trying to get back.&#8221;
However, another board member, Pohl pushed back with a different perspective.
&#8220;So my take on this is that we parole him today because they can&#8217;t elect a Speaker of the House — I don&#8217;t think the Trump administration is going to be in a position in the next 30 days, which is what they hold him, to deport him,&#8221; Pohl said.
Berry responded enthusiastically — &#8220;Really!&#8221; — when she learned the ICE detainer would last only 30 days rather than 90.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t want to make less of what happened in this offense,&#8221; Pohl added quickly.
&#8220;No, of course not,&#8221; Berry said.
The board took a brief recess to speak with the detainer supervisor and questioned Magloire about where he was in the process of fighting the deportation order.
In the end, all three parole board members agreed to release Magloire, deciding he would have the &#8220;best opportunity to dispute this immigration detainer if he is granted discretionary parole.&#8221;
Magloire sobbed and folded his hands, saying, &#8220;Thank you, I will not disappoint you again, I will not let this happen.&#8221;
&#8220;I cannot be in here no more,&#8221; he said.
Magloire was on the sex offender registry as far back as two decades ago. In 1998, he was convicted of injury or risk of injury to or impairing the morals of children.
That did not stop him from <a href="https://www.thehour.com/norwalk/article/Schools-sex-offender-was-never-custodian-8293006.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trying</a> to get a job as a custodian at an elementary school a few years later in 2007 and even showing up to the school, causing an uproar among parents.
Stamford police said they found evidence Magloire may have worked one day at Newfield Elementary School before his background checks were complete. The school district denied this, claiming Magloire showed up before he was hired.
Magloire&#8217;s current offense happened in the Waterbury area, where local police <a href="https://www.jud2.ct.gov/crdockets/CaseDetailDisp.aspx?source=Pending&amp;Key=bade4941-45e7-4a22-be1e-d39e8342de78" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> him and the city&#8217;s courts convicted him after he pled guilty, according to the parole hearing docket and inmate information <a href="http://www.ctinmateinfo.state.ct.us/detailsupv.asp?id_inmt_num=255393" target="_blank" rel="noopener">from</a> the Connecticut Department of Correction.
He was originally denied parole in May of 2023.
At several points during Magloire&#8217;s recent parole hearing, board members appeared to appreciate the serious nature of the situation.
Both Berry and Pohl expressed concern with Magloire saying he cannot promise not to offend again.
Magloire told them, &#8220;I did say that I can&#8217;t promise not making a mistake.&#8221;
&#8220;For you to sit here and say that I can&#8217;t make that promise, while I respect your being honest, I really struggle with that statement because nobody else&#8217;s child deserves to suffer through this ever again,&#8221; Berry said.
When Magloire blamed his offense on drinking alcohol and &#8220;being around certain friends,&#8221; Berry pointed out that while alcohol might lower his inhibitions, &#8220;you already had those thoughts in your head about sexually offending.&#8221;
However, none of the board&#8217;s concerns were enough to deny his parole.
Smith-Palmieri noted that Magloire completed a sex offender program and &#8220;got all he could out of the program&#8221; despite some &#8220;intellectual deficiencies&#8221; that may have interfered.
&#8220;I feel so remorseful for the pain of the child that I made a mistake on,&#8221; Magloire said, asking the parole board to tell the child&#8217;s mother that &#8220;I apologize for that.&#8221;
&#8220;At the time I wasn&#8217;t thinking too well, clearly,&#8221; he said, but now he has a &#8220;clear mind not to do the wrong.&#8221;
At least one of the parole board members is open about his political leanings online.
Pohl is <a href="https://www.manchesterctdems.info/mike-pohl/?_sm_nck=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also</a> the chairman of the Manchester Democrats, and an X account that appears to belong to him <a href="https://x.com/mikepohl12?lang=de" target="_blank" rel="noopener">is a</a> hodgepodge of Democrat retweets, as well as a retweet of a post about Connecticut&#8217;s prison population being at a nearly two-decade low.
Pohl also apparently posted &#8220;Class&#8221; in response to Bill Clinton wishing Joe Biden a happy birthday and in another post, &#8220;Don&#8217;t ever let them forget what happened&#8221; on January 6, saying local Republican leaders remained silent.

On Wednesday, the GOP-led <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senate</a> amended the &#8220;Laken Riley Act,&#8221; a bill that would require federal officials to arrest illegal immigrants charged with crimes in the United States.
Seventy members, including Republicans and Democrats, <a href="https://www.congress.gov/amendment/119th-congress/senate-amendment/14/text" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voted</a> in favor of expanding the legislation&#8217;s list of criminal offenses that would lead to mandatory detention of &#8220;inadmissible aliens.&#8221;
Another 25 senators voted against the amendment from Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), all Democrats and the two independents who caucus with them. Several other members did not vote.
The bill, which got <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-again-passes-laken-riley-act-159-dems-vote-against-it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> by the House last week, would direct the secretary of Homeland Security to detain illegal immigrants charged with, convicted of, or who admits to theft-related crimes.
With the amendment included, the list now <a href="https://www.congress.gov/amendment/119th-congress/senate-amendment/14/text" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also mentions</a> &#8220;the assault of a law enforcement officer offense, or any crime that results in death or serious bodily injury to another person.&#8221;
The Senate also <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1191/vote_119_1_00004.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rejected</a> an amendment from Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) to &#8220;strike&#8221; a section authorizing state attorneys general to sue federal immigration officials for alleged detention violations.
Laken Riley was a 22-year-old Georgia nursing student who was killed last year. A press release from Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA), who <a href="https://collins.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-mike-collins-reintroduces-laken-riley-act" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reintroduced</a> the Laken Riley Act for the new Congress, said the bill &#8220;directly addresses one of the federal policy failures&#8221; related to the murder.
Ibarra was &#8220;previously cited for shoplifting by the Athens Police Department,&#8221; it said. &#8220;If local law enforcement had called ICE, and ICE issued a detainer and picked him up, Laken would be alive.&#8221;
<a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/5/amendments" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dozens</a> more amendments have been proposed, including <a href="https://x.com/SenatorDurbin/status/1879315360975097974" target="_blank" rel="noopener">two</a> from Judiciary ranking member Dick Durbin (D-IL) that would exempt Dreamers and give them and others a path to citizenship.
But C-SPAN&#8217;s Craig Caplan <a href="https://x.com/CraigCaplan/status/1879683513869312006" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has filed cloture on the bill, setting up a vote to advance it and limit amendments, with a 60-vote threshold.
Whatever new version of the Laken Riley Act may ultimately pass through the Senate would need another vote by the House before it could be sent to the president to possibly sign the bill into law.

California’s sanctuary state laws might prevent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from gaining custody of an illegal alien who has been named as a “person of interest” in connection with one of the fires that ignited last week in the Los Angeles area.
ICE named 33-year-old Mexican national Juan Manuel Sierra as a person of interest in connection with the Kenneth Fire, which burned nearly 1,000 acres near Calabasas but is now <a href="https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2025/1/9/kenneth-fire">fully contained</a>. The federal immigration enforcement agency has placed a detainer on Sierra, but could be prevented from gaining custody of him due to sanctuary policies designed to protect illegal aliens from deportation.
Sierra was <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-01-14/kenneth-fire-person-of-interest-is-a-convicted-felon-and-entered-country-illegally-ice-says">arrested</a> by the Los Angeles Police Department on January 10 for a felony probation violation while allegedly “attempting to start a fire” and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/man-detained-with-blowtorch-near-wildfire-idd-as-illegal-immigrant-not-charged-with-arson-report">possessing a blowtorch</a> and is currently being held in a Los Angeles County jail. The sheriff&#8217;s department has <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-01-14/kenneth-fire-person-of-interest-is-a-convicted-felon-and-entered-country-illegally-ice-says">stated</a> that Sierra will be transferred to ICE if it provides an arrest warrant, which is distinct from the detainer that ICE has currently filed.
ICE <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/statement-ice-person-interest-being-held-connection-california-fires">confirmed</a> that Sierra “entered the U.S. unlawfully at an unknown date” and has had “multiple encounters with law enforcement from November 2016 to present for a variety of charges and was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon Oct. 10, 2023.”

Senate Bill 54, <a href="https://caimmigrant.org/timeline/the-california-values-act-sb-54-de-leon/">signed into law</a> in 2017, prevents law enforcement from complying with ICE detainer requests. These requests ask that local or state law enforcement agents hold an illegal alien for up to 48 hours after their initial release date. One anonymous law enforcement source <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/13/us-news/suspect-arrested-with-flamethrower-near-kenneth-fire-is-an-illegal-immigrant-report/">told</a> the New York Post that ICE does not expect its detainer request to be honored due to the sanctuary policy.

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom&#8217;s press office <a href="https://x.com/GovPressOffice/status/1879370713104093264">responded</a>, saying, &#8220;Local law enforcement is allowed to cooperate with ICE to take people who pose a threat to public safety into custody when released from jail or prison” and that “SB 54 does not impede criminal investigations or sharing information about an individual&#8217;s criminal history.”
The arrest of Sierra comes as President-elect Trump and his border czar Tom Homan have indicated that they will take action against jurisdictions that attempt to hinder federal immigration enforcement activities through sanctuary policies, including by <a href="https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/boston-mayor-wu-responds-threats-sanctuary-cities-losing-federal-funding/XJQQKOMFCNDURFNMMYOLYCOPFA/">slashing</a> federal funding. Trump, who will be inaugurated into office as the 47th president next week, has pledged to carry out the largest mass deportation effort in American history.

A member of the sadistic gang MS-13 pled guilty on Tuesday to seven brutal murders on Long Island, New York, including the murders of two teenage girls.
Jairo Saenz, 28, also known as &#8220;Funny,&#8221; was seen smiling in federal court as he pled guilty to racketeering and other charges related to the spate of killings, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/14/us-news/ms-13-honcho-funny-all-smiles-as-hes-sentenced-for-7-barbaric-murders-including-hit-on-teen-girls/">reported</a>.
He faces up to 60 years in prison and will be <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/ms-13-member-pleads-guilty-slaying-2-girls-117673366">sentenced</a> on June 13.
Saenz admitted to giving the order in 2016 to kill two high school girls who the gang thought disrespected them on social media.
Kayla Cuevas, 16, and Nisa Mickens, 15, were beaten to death on September 13, 2016. Their murders made national news and alerted the country to the largely El Salvadoran gang&#8217;s violent activities.
“I came to this country and worked for two years before joining in 13,” the killer said in a statement read by his attorney. “I knew MS-13 was a gang back in El Salvador. I know that MS-13 had members in Franklin and Central Islip. We agreed to kill a man.”
Saenz admitted to ordering the killings of the teen girls as well as a 15-year-old boy who was hacked to death because they believed he was part of a rival gang. He also admitted to killing a man at a deli wearing an &#8220;18&#8221; jersey, which the gang interpreted as signifying a rival gang, another man they believed was a Bloods gang member, a man suspected of dealing with the rival 18th Street gang, another man they suspected of rival gang activity, and a man they lured into the woods to smoke weed before killing him with knives and machetes.

The killer&#8217;s brother, Alexi Saenz, known as “Blatsy” and “Plaky,” previously pled guilty in July to eight murders, including the teen girls. However, his plea deal was contingent on his brother taking a plea as well, which did not happen until six months later on Tuesday. He faces up to 70 years in prison at his sentencing later this month.
The brothers ordered various killings that were carried out with guns, machetes, and baseball bats to build their gang&#8217;s reputation, prosecutors said.

An illegal alien in possession of a semi-automatic rifle and an estimated $1 million worth of fentanyl was busted by police at a Massachusetts homeless shelter, prompting an investigation of shelters across the state.
Leonardo Andujar Sanchez, a 28-year-old illegal alien from the Dominican Republic, was <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/07/us-news/massachusetts-gov-healey-orders-inspection-of-state-shelters-after-migrant-arrest/">arrested</a> by the Revere Police Department and was in possession of a loaded AR-15 rifle with three magazines and 10 pounds of fentanyl.
The illegal alien’s supply of fentanyl — the deadly drug that has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans — amounts to an <a href="https://www.dea.gov/onepill">estimated 2.2 million</a> lethal doses.
Sanchez was looking for a room at a hotel that had been converted to a homeless shelter when police apprehended him. He is now in state custody and slated to be delivered to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“This individual endangered occupants of the hotel, on-site workers, public safety personnel and the community at large,” Revere Police Chief David Callahan stated. “His arrest underscores our commitment to work tirelessly to protect our community from those dealing deadly Fentanyl and possessing illegal firearms.”
The arrest of the illegal alien prompted Democrat Governor Maura Healy to announce an inspection of homeless shelters across the state as well as a review of their policies. She also directed the blame at the federal government and the “broken federal immigration system.”
&#8220;This further underscores our broken federal immigration system and the urgent need for Congress and the White House to act on a border security bill to prevent criminals from entering our communities,” Healy <a href="https://spectrumnews1.com/ma/worcester/news/2025/01/07/healey-migrant-shelter-inspections-010725">said</a>.
But Healy has been a vocal opponent of President-elect Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda and said that state forces will not assist in federal immigration enforcement operations.

ICE agents busted three illegal aliens who are believed to have sexually assaulted children just days after Healy expressed her opposition to the deportation agenda.
One of the three illegal aliens, Guatemalan national Mynor Stiven De Paz-Munoz, was charged with raping a child and arrested by the Great Barrington Police Department. ICE says, however, that the police department did not honor a federal detainer for the illegal alien and failed to deliver him to federal custody.

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) said during an interview over the weekend that the U.S. needs to crack down on illegal immigration but also needs to have legal immigration.
Lawler&#8217;s remarks, which he made during a Sunday interview on ABC News, come after intense debate erupted on social media about legal immigration, specifically surrounding high-skilled foreign labor.
&#8220;Number one, we all agree we need to secure the border,&#8221; Lawler said on &#8220;This Week.&#8221; &#8220;We’ve had a disaster under Joe Biden, 10.5 million migrants flood into the country. Billions of dollars wasted of taxpayer money in New York, for instance, on free housing, clothing, food, education and healthcare for illegal immigrants. So the current system is broken. We need to secure the border. We all agree with that. That has to be priority number one.&#8221;
&#8220;But here&#8217;s a reality that we have to deal with. By the end of the century, we&#8217;re projected to have a population decline,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Our birthrate in the last 15 years has dropped from two children per woman to 1.66 per woman. So the reality is we have a long-term population decline. We have a workforce shortage of doctors, nurses, engineers, home health aides, ad workers, construction workers, hospitality workers.&#8221;
&#8220;We need immigration. We need an immigration system that works, that is legal, and I fundamentally believe that you need to have a system that is focused on our economic needs as a country and a more merit-based immigration system than anything else,&#8221; he added. &#8220;My wife is an immigrant. I have been through this process with her. It is a fundamentally broken system.&#8221;
He said that it was critical for the growth of the U.S. economy to have the H-1B visa program.
&#8220;There&#8217;s no question we want an America in which Americans are employed, in which they are able to fill the needs of our workforce, which means we need to revamp our education system, our K-12 system,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We need vocational schools. We need to get kids on an earlier STEM trajectory so that they are becoming the engineers of tomorrow. But the fact is, India is producing a significant number more of engineers than we are. So it&#8217;s both a function of fixing our education system and having a legal immigration system that works.&#8221;

President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> said on Saturday that he shares the same views on H-1B visas as Elon Musk amid intense debate online about the use of the program.
“I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/12/28/us-news/donald-trump-backs-h-1b-visa-program-supported-by-elon-musk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Post. “I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program.”
Controversy over the subject slowly began at the start of the week after Trump named Sriram Krishnan to serve as Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Krishnan, who was born in India, came to the United States on an L-1 visa and became a citizen in 2016. He has held senior roles at several major U.S. tech companies.
The backlash to the appointment was relatively small with some expressing problems with Krishnan&#8217;s pro-immigration views while a small, fringe segment made racist remarks targeting Indians.
&#8220;Sriram sure didn’t deserve all this!&#8221; Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1872772386891911646">posted on X</a>. &#8220;He’s such a great guy. I hope this ultimately [pierces] the boil of hidden racism and leads to a better America.&#8221;
Musk said that &#8220;hateful, unrepentant racists&#8221; needed to be kicked out of the GOP or else &#8220;they will absolutely be the downfall of the Republican Party if they are not removed.&#8221;
The controversy did not fully erupt until Vivek Ramaswamy said American culture was to blame in a post on Thursday that has been viewed 100 million times on X. In it, Ramaswamy said that &#8220;top tech companies often hire foreign-born &amp; first-generation engineers over &#8216;native&#8217; Americans&#8221; because Americans are often mediocre because of how they are raised.
The post ignited intense backlash from many of Trump&#8217;s biggest supporters, some of whom had previously supported Ramaswamy.
Musk, who came to the United States from South Africa, said that the entire reason he came to America and became an American was because of the H-1B visa program, which he added has been critical to growing America&#8217;s top companies.
&#8220;Anyone – of any race, creed or nationality – who came to America and worked like hell to contribute to this country will forever have my respect,&#8221; Musk posted on X. &#8220;America is the land of freedom and opportunity. Fight with every fiber of your being to keep it that way!&#8221;

Musk said that America&#8217;s rise to greatness over the last 150 years happened &#8220;because it was a meritocracy more than anywhere else on Earth.&#8221;
&#8220;I will fight to my last drop of blood to ensure that it remains that land of freedom and opportunity,&#8221; he added.
Musk repeatedly pushed back against false information online about what his views were about the H-1B visa program as some accounts posted fake screenshots of posts that appeared to be from Musk but, in reality, were fraudulent.
Musk said that the H-1B visa program should be reserved only for people who fill a void that is not being met domestic expertise while acknowledging that the system is being abused and the fraud needs to be cut out.
&#8220;There is some degree of fraud and considerable incompetence in every government program and H1-B is no exception,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That fraud and incompetence need to be fixed throughout the government.&#8221;
Musk said the U.S. needs to bring in &#8220;the top ~0.1% of engineering talent&#8221; that is &#8220;essential for America to keep winning.&#8221;
&#8220;This is like bringing in the Jokic’s or Wemby’s of the world to help your whole team (which is mostly Americans!) win the NBA,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Thinking of America as a pro sports team that has been winning for a long time and wants to keep winning is the right mental construct.&#8221;
Musk said that he supports the views of Trump&#8217;s top immigration adviser from his first term in office, hardliner Stephen Miller, who will serve as White House deputy chief of staff for policy in Trump&#8217;s upcoming term.

Billionaire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elon-musk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elon Musk</a> joined in on heated debate over the H-1B visa immigration program this week, saying that some tech companies have to outsource skilled positions and arguing that the H-1B program makes America stronger.
His position pitted him against many conservative commentators who came out against the position, arguing that the H-1B program prioritizes foreigners over skilled Americans, brings down wages, and actually hurts innovation.
Musk said that U.S. companies, such as Apple, are being <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1872349959875690709" target="_blank" rel="noopener">forced</a> to outsource skilled positions because the &#8220;expertise they need simply does not exist in America in sufficient quantity.&#8221;

In another post, Musk endorsed a position posited by CNN contributor Scott Jennings, who said the program needs to be overhauled to stop companies from using it for cheap labor, while instead using the program to recruit the top .01% from other nations.
&#8220;If you&#8217;re using the H-1B program to abuse it, to recruit interns, accountants who could easily be recruited in the USA, because you want to do it cheaper? That&#8217;s not fine,&#8221; Jennings said. &#8220;What a lot of people in the party want to do is eliminate the fraud in this H-1B program, retain the top engineering talent; there&#8217;s a way to do this.&#8221;

The debate all started when, in a post centered around 90s sitcom references, former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy argued that companies are forced to hire skilled foreigners because, in part, the American culture &#8220;has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long.&#8221;

Gingrich told The Daily Wire that he and his wife carefully selected the stories of several immigrants to highlight for the upcoming PBS documentary, &#8220;Journey to America: With Newt and Callista Gingrich.&#8221; It will highlight, among others, the stories of renowned theoretical physicist Albert Einstein of Germany, Catholic missionary Francesca Cabrini of Italy, and famous actress — and inventor — Hedy Lamarr of Austria.

I knew of her as an actress but not how much she had contributed as an inventor even while she was working in Hollywood,&#8221; Gingrich said. &#8220;As we developed the script, I realized that she had contributed technology we still use in our cell phones today.&#8221;
Lamarr, who starred alongside Hollywood heavyweights Jimmy Stewart, Judy Garland, and Lana Turner in 1941&#8217;s &#8220;Ziegfeld Girl,&#8221; is also responsible for pioneering the technology that is still used as the basis for WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth communications.
Gingrich said that the overall message they meant to share was a simple one: &#8220;The message is to have a real sense of pride that we are a nation that has had an open door for people to enter legally, and we have been remarkably enriched by the people who have come here and have contributed greatly to our society in many different ways.&#8221;
&#8220;It’s totally appropriate to be against illegal immigration, but we don’t want that to become being against legal immigration,&#8221; Gingrich added, drawing a hard line between supporting legal immigration and simply allowing people to cross the border unchecked. &#8220;America is a very unique and successful country because of legal immigration &#8230; You can enrich your country without having it overrun by people who break the law.&#8221;
Gingrich mentioned the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, saying that she&#8217;d once referred to the United States as a &#8220;contract country&#8221; — and added, &#8220;[That is] the great genius of the American system — you can come here, but then you have to become an American.&#8221;

California Governor Gavin Newsom is working on a potential plan to counteract the new Trump administration&#8217;s plans for mass deportations, an early idea of how blue states could try to hamstring federal authorities looking to remove illegal migrants.
The draft of the plan, called the “Immigrant Support Network Concept” suggests the “creation of an Immigrant Support Network comprised of regional ‘hubs’ to connect at-risk individuals, their families, and communities with community systems — such as legal services, schools, labor unions, local governments, etc,” Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/12/24/newsom-california-immigrants-trump-00195984" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The plan remains general, and the draft cautions that it is not finalized yet.
Under the plan, the California Department of Social Services would be responsible for running the migrant support &#8220;hubs&#8221; and would give state funds to nonprofits. The department is still gauging interest in the program, according to the draft.
The amount of funding the plan would require is unclear, but the draft says funding would go towards “community outreach, partnership, legal services staffing positions, and approved administrative costs associated with hub operations.”
“The administration continues to collaborate with the Legislature to finalize a thoughtful special session funding proposal, which is on track to be signed into law before January 20, 2025,” department spokesperson Theresa Mier told the outlet.
The second Trump administration has plans for a massive deportation operation to remove illegal migrants, starting with violent criminals.
President-elect Donald Trump tapped Homan as “border czar” last month after his election victory, and Homan has been clear that he will lead an aggressive deportation strategy.
While criminals will be prioritized for deportation, Homan said the U.S. is prepared to deport parents in the country illegally even if they have young U.S.-born children, allowing the families to decide whether to be deported together or split up and leave their children here.
“Here’s the issue,” Homan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-border-czar-says-family-deportations-will-not-be-inhumane" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the Washington Post. “You knew you were in the country illegally and chose to have a child. So you put your family in that position.”
“We need to show the American people we can do this and not be inhumane about it,” Homan said. “We can’t lose the faith of the American people.”
Meanwhile, the Biden administration is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rushing</a> to sell off border wall materials before Trump takes office in an apparent effort to slow down the new administration&#8217;s efforts to secure the border.

Of those, a total of 662,586, just around 8.6%, have been convicted of crimes or have charges pending, according to ICE data through July 21.

The Biden administration is reaching a settlement in a lawsuit that will allow an Immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention site to reopen, potentially opening the door to President-elect Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
The <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/12/24/us-news/biden-admin-settles-lawsuit-to-reopen-mass-ice-detention-site-rolling-the-red-carpet-out-for-trump-liberals-gripe/">lawsuit settlement</a>, which must be signed by a judge before it becomes official, would allow an ICE facility in Adelanto, California, that has remained almost entirely empty since 2020, to reopen. The facility has room for just under 2,000 people, but currently only houses three detainees. It&#8217;s also &#8220;the largest private migrant detention center in the US,&#8221; according to the New York Post.
The center has been effectively closed since 2020, when a <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/11/23/news/ice-facility-operating-at-4-capacity-due-to-outdated-covid-19-order-rep/">judge gave an order</a> blocking the center from taking in more detainees amid concerns about the spread of Covid.

The move has been criticized by left-wing immigration lawyers, who say that the settlement will bolster Trump’s attempt to carry out his mass deportation agenda. “What can I say, Biden Admin and DOJ are rolling the red carpet for Trump’s deportation machine,” immigration lawyer Nicolette Glazer <a href="https://x.com/NicoletteGlazer/status/1871397590660501855">wrote</a> in a post on X. “Now that is a way to mess with Christmas Eve Eve! Biden’s legacy against people!” Hardeep Sull, the director of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association, <a href="https://x.com/DeeSull2/status/1871555928056840250">chimed in</a> on X.
The legal settlement comes as Trump has touted his plan to carry out the largest mass deportation plan in American history, selecting former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-border-czar-has-a-plan-to-stop-illegal-immigration">Tom Homan</a> as his border czar.
Republican Congressman Jay Obernotle, whose California district includes the ICE detention center, <a href="https://obernolte.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/obernolte.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/23-10-03-obernolte-adelanto-ice-letter-final_sent.pdf">called</a> for the center to be reopened in 2023, citing concerns over the release of illegal aliens into American communities.
“At a time when our communities are suffering historic levels of illegal migrants overrunning our law enforcement authorities to the point that they have been forced to use additional taxpayer resources to hold them in hotels, prisons, and other detention housing alternatives, it is unacceptable that Adelanto facility … has been so underutilized and neglected,” he wrote.

“Here’s the issue,” Homan said. “You knew you were in the country illegally and chose to have a child. So you put your family in that position.”
Families will be detained in &#8220;soft-sided&#8221; tent structures by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said Homan, who was acting ICE director during Trump’s first term.
Homan also said the new administration will need to build new family facilities, but how many beds they need will depend on what the data shows.

The new administration will also launch a separate effort to locate more than 300,000 children who came into the country unaccompanied and illegally and were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dhs-made-no-effort-to-locate-missing-unaccompanied-alien-children-auditor-says-in-urgent-alert" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> to adult sponsors who stopped responding to government workers conducting welfare checks.
“I think some of these children will be in forced labor, and some will be in the sex trade,” he said. “I think some will be perfectly fine. We just want to make sure.”
He emphasized that families who enter the country illegally and reunite with their children can go through deportation proceedings together.
“I’m not saying take them into custody,” he said. “We’ll let them get the child and put them in proceedings with the child, so they can go to court and plead their case as a family.”
