Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL) is leading an effort to prevent the deportation of an untold number of illegal aliens, offering them a legal pathway to remain in the United States with a bill that critics have called an amnesty proposal.
Called the Dignity Act, the legislation was introduced by Salazar and Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX). It would allow illegal aliens who have been in the country since 2021 to apply for a renewable seven-year legal status. Those deemed eligible would have to pass a background check and pay $7,000 in restitution over a seven-year period.
The bill would also offer legal status and a pathway to permanent residency — and eventually <a href="https://files.constantcontact.com/1849eea4801/e999781e-b1f3-477f-8f15-20c0d107f5c6.pdf">to citizenship</a> — for recipients of the Obama-era DACA program.
“We are the noblest nation on the face of the Earth. It is time for our immigration system to measure up,” Salazar wrote in Spanish <a href="https://x.com/RepMariaSalazar/status/1944799386107576444">on X</a>.
Salazar repeatedly claimed that the legislation is not an amnesty bill, arguing that it “allows certain long-term undocumented immigrants to earn legal status, without amnesty or a path to citizenship.”
The legislation has been derided by critics as an amnesty measure, however. Former Representative Matt Gaetz <a href="https://x.com/mattgaetz/status/1873399406206267535">warned</a> that &#8220;the &#8216;Dignity Act&#8217; includes amnesty for illegal immigrants,&#8221; while conservative lawyer Will Chamberlain charged that the legislation “is an amnesty bill for illegal aliens and would absolutely blow the door open on legal migration.”
Conservative organizations similarly warned that the legislation includes amnesty for illegal aliens. &#8220;There is no mistake about it, this is first and foremost an amnesty bill,&#8221; the Federation for American Immigration Reform <a href="https://www.fairus.org/legislation/congress/handful-house-republicans-unveil-new-amnesty-bill">wrote</a> when the legislation was introduced in a previous legislative session in 2022.
The Center for Immigration Studies similarly <a href="https://cis.org/Arthur/GOP-Outreach-Midwestern-Hispanics">blasted</a> the bill when Salazar introduced it in 2022, calling it “an amnesty for aliens illegally present in the United States” warning that “all amnesties simply encourage more illegal immigration, and Salazar’s proposal would be no different.”
Salazar touted the legislation in media appearances this week, claiming that some illegal aliens “deserve to stay in the United States.”
“There is another mass of people, most of them Hispanics, who have been here for more than five years contributing to the economy, who do not have a criminal record, and those people deserve some type of dignity and deserve to stay,” Salazar said in an appearance on Fox News.
Daily Wire host Matt Walsh shot back at Salazar on X, blasting her argument that some illegal aliens “deserve” to remain in America despite illegally entering the country.
“Deserve? If foreigners ‘deserve’ to disregard our laws, what laws do I as an American citizen deserve to disregard? Do I deserve to not pay my taxes? Ignore speed limits? Shoplift? Or is this an entitlement reserved only for foreign nationals? Please explain, Maria,” Walsh <a href="https://x.com/MattWalshBlog/status/1945470966055788710">charged</a>.
In addition to offering legal status to illegal aliens, the bill would also <a href="https://immigrationforum.org/article/the-dignity-act-of-2025-bill-summary/">expand</a> the number of migrants who could enter the country on various visas, mandate that employers use E-Verify to check the work authorization status of new hires, increase pay for Border Patrol agents, and grant new funding to upgrade ports of entry along the border.
Salazar is not the only Republican in support of the effort to offer legal status to illegal aliens, however. The act has also received the <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/migrants-immigration-maria-salazar-republicans-house-2099411">support</a> of Mario Rafael Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Mike Lawler (R-NY), Dan Newhouse (R-WA), David Valadao (R-CA), Mike Kelly (R-PA), Gabe Evans (R-CO), Marlin Stutzman (R-IN), Don Bacon (R-NE), and Young Kim (R-CA).
Salazar did not respond to a request for comment.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is set to receive a massive influx of funding thanks to the passage of the One Big Beautiful Act, giving the agency a budget that exceeds every federal law enforcement agency, including the FBI.
“President Trump’s signing the One Big Beautiful Bill is a win for law and order and the safety and security of the American people,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/07/04/secretary-noem-commends-president-trump-and-one-big-beautiful-bill-signing-law">said</a>. “This $165 billion in funding will help the Department of Homeland Security and our brave law enforcement further deliver on President Trump’s mandate to arrest and deport criminal illegal aliens.”
That sum includes roughly $75 billion for ICE — additional funding on top of the agency&#8217;s baseline budget, which hovers around <a href="https://time.com/7299360/big-beautiful-bill-trump-ice-immigration/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">$10 billion</a> per year. That additional funding, which is earmarked for hiring agents, creating new detention space, and funding removal operations, translates to an annual funding of more than $25 billion per year through fiscal year 2029. The sum eclipses the $11.3 billion in <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/news/speeches-and-testimony/a-review-of-the-president-s-fiscal-year-2025-budget-request-for-the-federal-bureau-of-investigation">funding</a> requested by the FBI for fiscal year 2025.
The bill empowers ICE to drastically increase the number of agents on its payroll, putting it closer to its goal of 1 million deportations per year. The law enforcement agency currently has 20,000 agents and support personnel in 400 different offices across the country. With the new funding, another 10,000 could be hired, marking a drastic, 50% increase in agents and support personnel.
Just under <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/07/03/immigration-spending-increases-trump-big-beautiful-bill">$30 billion</a> has been earmarked for hiring, training, and agent retention, as well as for the modernization of the agency’s vehicles.
The legislation also grants ICE a whopping <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/07/us/politics/trump-administration-immigrant-detention-facilities-services.html">$45 billion</a> to increase its illegal alien detention capacity over the next two years, a key component in the effort to deport millions of illegal aliens.
That funding will allow ICE to reach agreements with contractors who will construct detention facilities and provide security, medical care, and transportation as the agency aims to create an unprecedented number of detention spots for illegal aliens. The bill, according to the Department of Homeland Security, will allow ICE to secure 80,000 new detention beds and allow the federal agency to maintain an average daily population of 100,000 illegal aliens in detention at any given time.
The bill allocates another $14.4 billion to fund “removal transportation,” like deportation flights back to illegal aliens’ countries of origin or to willing “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-secures-victory-in-scotus-ruling-enabling-more-deportations?author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=17&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Admin+Secures+Victory+In+SCOTUS+Ruling+Enabling+More+Deportations">third countries</a>” that agree to accept deportees from the United States.
The legislation also aims to bolster border security, notably allocating $46.5 billion to complete the border wall. The effort marks a drastic shift from the previous administration, which <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office">auctioned off</a> pieces of the border wall for pennies on the dollar just after Trump won the election.
It also grants $3.2 billion for new technology along the border and another $2.7 billion for autonomous border surveillance tech. Customs and Border Protection will, like ICE, be granted funding to hire new agents. That money will allow the agency to hire 3,000 new Border Patrol agents as well as another 3,000 customs officers. Another $855 million will be used to modernize Customs and Border Protection&#8217;s vehicle fleet.

Bennie Thompson (D-MS) interrupted a Congressional testimony that detailed the rise in violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and placed the blame on Democratic politicians, attempting to shut down the speaker by arguing that the testimony was outside the bounds of the Homeland Security Committee hearing.
The exchange came on Wednesday during a hearing in which Mike Howell, the president of the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, blasted Democrats for driving the increasing attacks on federal immigration agents.
Howell said he addressed the committee to “plead&#8221; with Democrats &#8220;to stand down on their threats on the men and women of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
“The violence is getting out of control, and it is fueled by the demagoguery of politicians, whether it is one of your members telling Axios that there needs to be blood to grab the attention of the press and the public, another saying civility isn’t working and to prepare for violence, or even a member of this committee being arrested for forcibly impeding and interfering with federal officials, this escalation deserves condemnation,” Howell charged. “It needs to stop and it needs to stop now. Assaults against ICE officers are up over 830 percent.”

But Rep. Thompson interrupted Howell’s testimony, claiming that it was &#8220;outside the scope&#8221; of the committee hearing, which focused on the role of non-governmental organizations in facilitating mass illegal immigration into the United States under the Biden administration.
ICE agents have faced numerous instances of violence in the last several months, with <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/fbi-captures-former-marine-corps-reservist-accused-shooting-ice-officers-texas-detention-center">armed extremists</a> even shooting at federal agents.
Other left-wing activists, including some formally affiliated with the Democratic Party, have sought to obstruct the operation of ICE agents as they enforce federal law, The Daily Wire has detailed.

The Trump administration is charging an illegal alien business owner in Arizona for knowingly employing other illegal aliens in his food truck business.
Federal prosecutors hit illegal alien business owner 42-year-old Blademir Angulo Audeves with several crimes after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) took him into custody in Phoenix early this month.
The Mexican national, is believed to have hired at least a dozen illegal aliens to work at his restaurant chain, Taqueria El Taco Loko. Every single one of his workers, federal authorities say, were in the country illegally.

Angulo Audeves first entered the United States illegally in 2011 and voluntarily left the country in May of 2021 after receiving departure orders, but returned just months later in August of the same year.
Authorities also raided the home of Angulo Audeves, with prosecutors saying that the illegal alien was found to be in possession of three firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, violating federal law.
Court documents indicate, according to <a href="https://www.azfamily.com/2025/07/12/phoenix-taco-shop-owner-accused-harboring-employing-illegal-migrants/">one report</a>, that the Mexican illegal alien paid the smuggling costs for some of his employees, fronting $12,000 a piece to traffic the illegal alien workers into the United States with the expectation that they would pay him back.
The case is not the only time that federal authorities under the Trump administration have arrested illegal alien workers and their employers. ICE and HSI <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ice-and-homeland-security-busts-8-illegal-aliens-and-the-business-owners-they-say-harbored-them">arrested</a> eight illegal aliens who worked at a bakery on the border in Texas in February. The bakery’s two owners were also apprehended and charged with felonies, with federal authorities accusing them of harboring illegal aliens.

The Oklahoma Republicans are introducing the resolution weeks after 30-year-old recording artist Nezza — full name Vanessa Hernandez — <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/latin-rb-singer-national-anthem-in-spanish-dodgers-game">performed</a> the national anthem in Spanish at a Los Angeles Dodgers game to protest ICE raids in Los Angeles.
“Para mi gente [for my people]; I stand with you,” Hernandez wrote in the caption of a video of her performance. The performer noted that she chose to sing the anthem in Spanish even after the Dodgers organization specifically requested that she sing it in English.

Now, Mullin and Bice are leading an effort calling for &#8220;The Star-Spangled Banner&#8221; to only be performed in English, preserving the original version of the anthem as it was written by Francis Scott Key during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812.
“The Star-Spangled Banner is a sacred and unifying tradition that honors our country&#8217;s unbreakable spirit,” Mullin told The Daily Wire. “As our national anthem, it should always be performed as it was originally intended and written, in English.”
The joint resolution has also garnered the support of Republican Reps. Mike Rogers (AL), Randy Feenstra (Iowa), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (Iowa), and Buddy Carter (GA).
“A no-name singer chose to make a political statement when signing the National Anthem in Spanish at Dodger Stadium,” Bice charged. “The United States is a nation built on shared values, and ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ is a symbol of our unity and resilience. It should never be used for political theater or sung in Spanish.”
“Preserving the original English lyrics in public performances honors the historical context and intent of the anthem as a representation of the Nation’s values and Identity,” the resolution states. “Any public rendition of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ should be performed as written by Francis Scott Key, in the English language, to preserve its historical and cultural integrity,” it goes on to say.
The resolution comes months after President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-to-issue-order-making-english-official-language-of-u-s">signed</a> an executive order naming English the official language of the United States.
“From the founding of our Republic, English has been used as our national language. Our Nation’s historic governing documents, including the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, have all been written in English,” the Trump White House affirmed in the executive order. “It is therefore long past time that English is declared as the official language of the United States.”
“A nationally designated language is at the core of a unified and cohesive society,” the order added.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents captured more than 1,300 illegal aliens in the Houston area in June, nabbing a plane hijacker, child predators, and murderers.
ICE agents and members of Texas law enforcement arrested an astonishing 1,361 illegal aliens in the Houston area last month, including Adermis Wilson-Gonzalez, a 56-year-old Cuban national with a conviction for hijacking a plane.
Wilson-Gonzalez served 20 years in prison after he was convicted in 2003 for hijacking a plane traveling from Cuba to Florida. The man was <a href="https://www.lmtonline.com/local/article/laredo-sector-usbp-agents-assists-ice-arrests-20766632.php">released</a> from prison into the United States before being apprehended by law enforcement agents late last month. He was just one of many criminal illegal aliens caught last month in southeast Texas.
“The brave men and women of ICE continue to work tirelessly around the clock targeting dangerous criminal aliens to restore integrity to our nation’s immigration system and bolster public safety in our communities,” said Gabriel Martinez, the acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston.
“The number of dangerous criminal aliens that they removed from local communities across Southeast Texas last month is just another example of their selfless and unyielding efforts to return our local communities to places where we can all raise our families without having to worry about child predators, gang members, or other violent criminal aliens preying on our loved ones.”
Authorities also arrested 32 child predators in their enforcement operations in the Texas region. Javier Escobar Gonzalez, a 51-year-old Mexican national, has a long criminal history, including a conviction for sexual indecency with a minor. The man has also been convicted of criminal trespass with a deadly weapon, driving while intoxicated, and the unauthorized use of a firearm.
Jose Meza, a 40-year-old Mexican illegal alien, was convicted of sexual assault of a minor and theft. Meza has illegally entered the United States four different times, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says.
ICE caught nine different murderers, including Luis Pablo Vasquez-Estolano, a 29-year-old Mexican national who had been deported from the United States six times prior to his June 10 arrest. The illegal alien has convictions for homicide, aggravated robbery, burglary of a vehicle, and drug possession.
In addition to capturing the plane hijacker, murderers, and child sex offenders, the federal agents and their state law enforcement partners caught 16 members of gangs or cartels.
Among them was 47-year-old Mexican national Arnulfo Olivares Cervantes, a former member of the Mexicles gang. Cervantes has convictions for attempted murder, evading arrest, illegal entry, and drug possession, as well as two convictions for trafficking cocaine. The Mexican national illegally entered the United States on four different occasions.
Houston has been the site of several immigration raids since President Donald Trump took office in January. Federal agents arrested more than <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/more-than-500-criminal-illegal-aliens-captured-by-ice-in-week-long-houston-raids">600 illegal aliens</a> in Houston in a weeklong operation in March. More than 500 of those arrested had criminal records beyond illegal entry.
Law enforcement also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nearly-100-illegals-captured-in-colony-ridge-deportation-raids">captured</a> more than 100 illegal aliens, including multiple child sexual predators and a member of a foreign terror organization at Colony Ridge, a land development just outside of Houston that The Daily Wire exposed as a hotbed for illegal aliens.

The Trump administration is considering multiple different countries that it could potentially deport suspected MS-13 human smuggler Kilmar Abrego Garcia to, naming both Mexico and the African nation of South Sudan as potential destinations for the illegal alien erroneously dubbed a “Maryland man.”
Abrego Garcia was brought back to the United States to stand trial for a human smuggling charge after he was first deported back to his home country of El Salvador. But now the Salvadoran national is expected to be deported yet again if he is let free from jail as he awaits trial.
ICE officials <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/10/us-news/trump-admin-still-deciding-where-it-would-deport-kilmar-abrego-garcia-ice-official-tells-judge/">noted</a> that the federal agency would detain Abrego Garcia and deport him to a so-called “third country,” a country other than an alien’s nation of origin that agrees to receive deportees from the United States. Abrego Garcia has claimed that he is at risk of being tortured if he returns to El Salvador.
The third country arrangement was made possible by a Supreme Court <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-secures-victory-in-scotus-ruling-enabling-more-deportations?author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=4&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Admin+Secures+Victory+In+SCOTUS+Ruling+Enabling+More+Deportations">victory</a> for the Trump administration late last month, which overturned a lower court ruling barring the administration from sending deportees to third countries. Now, <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/06/23/supreme-court-immigrants-deport-torture-sudan/83885228007/">thousands</a> of illegal aliens are expected to be sent to third countries.
The case came after eight criminal illegal aliens, including Cuban and Vietnamese nationals, were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-deports-murderers-and-rapists-to-south-sudan-but-judge-might-order-their-return-to-u-s">deported</a> to South Sudan after their home nations refused to accept them.
Abrego Garcia is currently awaiting trial in Tennessee as he faces charges for a suspected human smuggling incident. The illegal alien was caught on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/police-suspected-maryland-man-of-getting-paid-to-traffic-illegals-body-cam-footage-shows">body camera footage</a> in 2022 during a traffic stop, in which Tennessee Highway Patrol officers found Abrego Garcia to be driving a modified van with nine men, none of whom spoke English or had driver’s licenses. One officer speculated that Abrego Garcia was “hauling these people for money.”
Abrego Garcia’s case has become a national flashpoint in the immigration debate, with Democrat politicians advocating for the illegal alien and incorrectly referring to him as a “Maryland man,” and Maryland politicians even calling him their constituent.

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) slammed his colleagues for calling to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement, defending ICE agents and saying he “fully supports” the members of law enforcement.
Fetterman blasted those, including his Democratic colleagues, who have called to abolish the federal law enforcement agency, which is responsible for arresting and deporting illegal aliens.
“ICE agents are just doing their job, and I fully support that,” the Pennsylvania Senator said in a video. “People in my party might want to abolish it or treat them as criminals or anything, that’s just inappropriate and outrageous,” he went on to say. “ICE performs an important job for our nation.”
Fetterman doubled down on his comments in a statement on social media Thursday. “ICE performs an important job for our country,” the Democrat from Pennsylvania wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, as he doubled down on his message. “Any calls to abolish ICE are [100%] inappropriate and outrageous.”

But shortly after his comments defending ICE, Fetterman <a href="https://x.com/SenFettermanPA/status/1943389088448471531">voiced his support</a> for mass amnesty for illegal aliens, a longtime goal of Democrat politicians.
“Absolutely support amnesty for the hardworking, otherwise law-abiding migrant workers,” Fetterman said online. “Round up and deport the criminals. We must acknowledge the critical contribution migrants make to our nation’s economy.”
The statements come just after an anonymous House Democrat indicated that opponents of mass deportations must be <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrats-demand-blood-storming-of-white-house-to-resist-trump">willing to get shot</a> while protesting ICE. “There needs to be blood to grab the attention of the press and the public,” the Democrat said.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) recently <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/aoc-fundraises-trying-abolish-ice-amid-trumps-crackdown-illegal-immigration">called</a> for ICE to be abolished in a fundraising email, in which she dubbed ICE a &#8220;rogue agency.&#8221;
Fetterman’s break with Democrat colleagues who advocate for the abolition of ICE comes as the federal agency has been hit with a wave of attacks.
A gunman was killed after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-gunman-in-tactical-gear-killed-after-opening-fire-on-border-patrol-agents">opening fire</a> on Border Patrol agents in McAllen, Texas, in what authorities say appeared to be “a purposeful ambush/attack against federal agents.” Two officers were injured in the attack.
Other radicals have set out to obstruct ICE agents as they arrest illegal aliens, or foster violent unrest at protests against the agents. WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security has arrested two MS-13 gang leaders wanted in El Salvador for violent crimes that include murder, drug trafficking, and gang conspiracy.
One of these gang leaders, The Daily Wire can exclusively report, is Rene Escobar-Ochoa, arrested on July 9 during a coordinated enforcement operation in Omaha, Nebraska. Though U.S. Border Patrol encountered him as far back as 2023, he was allowed to remain in the country under President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration, DHS shared.
Escobar-Ochoa faces an &#8220;INTERPOL Red Notice&#8221; from El Salvador for conspiracy to commit murder and drug trafficking, DHS said.

The second gang member, who is a Salvadoran national, is not named by <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ice-arrests-one-el-salvadors-top-100-most-wanted-hiding-nebraska">ICE</a> but is on El Salvador&#8217;s 100 Most Wanted Fugitives list, according to DHS. Fox News first reported his arrest on Thursday afternoon.
He is wanted for five counts of murder, and U.S. authorities had previously convicted him for illegally crossing the border. He was arrested in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

“The Biden Administration allowed two ringleaders of MS-13, one of the most violent gangs in the world, straight into our country,&#8221; DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said on Thursday. &#8220;One of these depraved aliens is on El Salvador’s 100 Most Wanted Fugitives list and is wanted for five counts of murder. The other has an INTERPOL notice for drug trafficking.&#8221;
&#8220;These are the kinds of scum-bags sanctuary politicians are protecting and letting walk free on America’s streets,&#8221; McLaughlin added.
Both arrests were led by HSI Omaha with support from federal and international law enforcement partners, and ICE is holding both gang members in custody as ICE coordinates with El Salvadoran authorities to send them back to their home country to &#8220;face justice.&#8221;
DHS emphasizes that the MS-13 gang members&#8217; ability to get into the United States only highlights the danger that open border policies present to American citizens, as well as President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration&#8217;s efforts to stem the border crisis.
In the first 100 days of the second Trump administration, ICE <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/100-days-record-breaking-immigration-enforcement-us-interior">arrested</a> 66,463 illegal aliens and removed 65,682 aliens, &#8220;including criminals who threaten public safety and national security.&#8221; Three in four of the arrests were criminal illegal aliens, the agency said.
Criminal records of the aliens arrested include 9,639 assaults, 6,398 DWIs or DUIs, and 1,479 weapon offenses.
“We removed over 65,000 illegal aliens to countries across the world,” ICE acting Director Todd M. Lyons said in June when ICE released the numbers from the first 100 days. “We’re just 100 days into this administration and thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is using every tool at its disposal to enforce our country’s immigration laws and protect our communities.”

Illegal alien and suspected MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia was a member of a far-left organization that raked in cash from the Biden administration as it advocated for illegal aliens.
Abrego Garcia, infamously and erroneously dubbed a “Maryland man” by Democrat politicians after he was deported to his home country of El Salvador, was a member of a leftwing organization called CASA, which lobbies on behalf of illegal aliens and is now advocating for the Salvadoran national to be shielded from deportation.
The group called to <a href="https://wearecasa.org/policy-agenda/immigration/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">abolish ICE</a> and runs campaigns to <a href="https://wearecasa.org/about/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prevent</a> local law enforcement agents from collaborating with federal immigration enforcement, all while the Biden administration pledged more than $5 million to the organization. It also openly identified Abrego Garcia, a suspected MS-13 human smuggler, as a member of the organization.
“CASA is outraged that ICE deported CASA member Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia in violation of a court order and at grave personal danger,” the organization <a href="https://wearecasa.org/casa-demands-justice-for-kilmar-armando-abrego-garcia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in a statement.
Now, CASA falsely claims that “the Trump administration disappeared Kilmar Abrego Garcia.” The leftwing organization identified the suspected MS-13 gang member and human smuggler as one of its members in an <a href="https://wearecasa.org/casa-demands-justice-for-kilmar-armando-abrego-garcia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">April statement</a> condemning his deportation, and has remained involved in the case, with CASA <a href="https://apnews.com/video/wife-of-kilmar-abrego-garcia-says-effort-to-free-him-has-been-the-hardest-thing-in-my-life-bcc1f7ebbc4843bfb826e4b57edeba56" target="_blank" rel="noopener">representatives</a> appearing to flank his wife at a recent press conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
CASA, to which the Biden administration <a href="https://www.usaspending.gov/recipient/754c4ce6-4aab-ad50-7221-31e1f1e71de6-R/latest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">awarded</a> millions of taxpayer dollars, has offices across the mid-Atlantic region, including in Maryland, where Abrego Garcia resided prior to his deportation. Included in the more than $5 million awarded to CASA by the federal government since 2022 was a <a href="https://www.usaspending.gov/award/ASST_NON_23CICET00324_7003" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$250,000 grant</a> from the Department of Homeland Security to fund “<a href="https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship-resource-center/civic-assimilation/learn-about-the-citizenship-and-assimilation-grant-program/fy-2023-grant-recipients" target="_blank" rel="noopener">innovations in citizenship preparation</a>.”
The group has multiple membership tiers, including one that allows members to access a range of services, <a href="https://wearecasa.org/legal-services-md/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">including</a> legal deportation defense, vocational training, and citizenship application assistance. Each of the three <a href="https://wearecasa.org/membership/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">membership tiers</a> requires members to pay a monthly or annual fee. It is not apparent what membership tier Abrego Garcia belonged to, nor whether he sought out services from the leftwing organization.
CASA did not respond to a Daily Wire inquiry concerning Abrego Garcia’s membership.
In addition to offering support services to illegal aliens, CASA also pushes an extreme ideological agenda. The far-left organization <a href="https://wearecasa.org/policy-agenda/immigration/abolishice/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">calls</a> for ICE to be abolished, calling it a “rogue agency” that has “caused immense harm to our communities.”
The organization <a href="https://wearecasa.org/casa-demands-justice-for-kilmar-armando-abrego-garcia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">notes</a> that it is currently working to pass legislation in Maryland that would prevent local law enforcement agencies from working with ICE to identify and apprehend illegal aliens. The group is also <a href="https://wearecasa.org/maryland-2/legislative-session-agenda/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advocating</a> for legislation that would prevent ICE from obtaining identifying information from Maryland’s state and local agencies, shielding illegal aliens from being identified by federal immigration enforcement agents.
The group’s sister organization, <a href="https://casainaction.org/#footer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> CASA in Action, advocates for specific policies and endorses candidates who encourage “greater engagement of Latinos and voters of color in elections.”
“By mobilizing Black, Latine, Afro-descendent, Indigenous, and Immigrant voters, CASA in Action … play[s] a powerful role in electing progressive change leaders,” the group <a href="https://casainaction.org/about/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">goes on</a> to say.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested an Egyptian national and former chaplain at a children&#8217;s hospital who was flagged on the FBI’s terror watchlist.
Egyptian national Imam Ayman Soliman was arrested by federal immigration enforcement agents Wednesday after the man, whose asylum was revoked under the Biden administration, met with ICE and FBI agents, one <a href="https://x.com/BillMelugin_/status/1943058161910583578">report</a> noted.
Soliman, who formerly worked as a chaplain at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and presided over services at a local mosque in the Ohio city, first came to the United States roughly a decade ago and was granted asylum status in 2018. That status, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin says, was revoked under the Biden administration.
The DHS official <a href="https://x.com/TriciaOhio/status/1943061001123041322">also noted</a> that Soliman “was flagged on the FBI terror watchlist,” leading to his apprehension on Wednesday.
Court documents <a href="https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2025/07/09/cincinnati-chaplain-detained-by-ice/84521510007/?taid=686eb2e34ec9cd00011f2d44&amp;utm_campaign=trueanthem&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">indicate</a> that members of Soliman’s family, who were still in Egypt, had filed a request to migrate to the United States to join him.
Some supporters of Soliman <a href="https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2025/07/09/cincinnati-chaplain-detained-by-ice/84521510007/?taid=686eb2e34ec9cd00011f2d44&amp;utm_campaign=trueanthem&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">say</a> that he was fleeing violence and persecution in his home country and argue that he should not be sent back to Egypt. Even if his fears are found to be credible by the federal government, a recent Supreme Court ruling could enable his deportation to a willing third party country.
The Trump administration deported several illegal aliens, who could not be returned to their home countries, to South Sudan after the African nation agreed to receive deportees from the United States. The deportation operation was swiftly challenged in court, but the Supreme Court <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-secures-victory-in-scotus-ruling-enabling-more-deportations?author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=17&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Admin+Secures+Victory+In+SCOTUS+Ruling+Enabling+More+Deportations">ruled in favor</a> of the Trump administration.
The ruling is expected to enable the deportation of thousands of illegal aliens whose home countries are unwilling to accept them, or who have credible fears of torture or persecution if they are returned to their nation of origin.

Border Patrol agents arrested four people on Tuesday, suspected of planting tire spikes in front of vehicles used by federal immigration enforcement agents in Los Angeles in an attempt to impede their mission.
Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent Gregory Bovino said that the individuals, Jenaro-Ernesto Ayala, 43; Jude Jasmine Jeannine Allard, 28; Sadot Jarnica, 54; and Daniel Montenegro, 30, were arrested for “interfering with federal agents conducting immigration enforcement operations.”
“They are facing felony charges for placing homemade tire spikes to disable law enforcement vehicles,” Bovino added. “Anyone who interferes with our lawful mission will be arrested.” The four were taken into custody after federal agents <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14889485/feds-photo-transgender-woman-attacks-ice-agents.html">conducted</a> a raid in a Home Depot parking lot in L.A.&#8217;s Van Nuys neighborhood.

Two of those arrested, Ayala and Allard, were <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-07-09/advocates-for-day-laborers-arrested-after-tire-spikes-found-at-immigration-raid">identified</a> as “day laborer advocates” with a non-profit called the “Instituto de Educacion Popular del Sur De California.” The organization claims that the two individuals arrested were observing the federal law enforcement agents and have seen no evidence connecting them to the spikes.
The use of tire spikes against federal agents is one of the latest attempts by leftist agitators in Los Angeles to impede immigration enforcement.
One leftist activist, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftwing-activist-network-distributes-riot-gear-to-los-angeles-anti-ice-agitators?author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=26&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Meet+The+Leftwing+Activist+Using+Social+Media+To+Funnel+Riot+Gear+To+Anti-ICE+Protests">revealed</a>, distributed respirator masks, gloves, and helmets to agitators on the “front lines” of the uprisings against ICE in Los Angeles. “Only grab gear if you are literally going out to the front lines TODAY,” the leftist activist said on social media.
Federal authorities arrested one man who was also found to have passed out respirators to rioters in Los Angeles. The suspect, who was <a href="https://x.com/USAttyEssayli/status/1933158095833964798">charged</a> with conspiracy to commit civil disorders, could face up to five years in prison.
L.A.-area leftists have also revealed the addresses of hotels that were housing ICE agents on social media, luring agitators to the locations who attempted to disrupt the agents&#8217; sleep by creating disturbances in parking lots outside.
