House Minority Leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hakeem-jeffries" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hakeem Jeffries</a> (D-NY) refused to acknowledge over the weekend President Joe Biden&#8217;s cognitive issues when pressed on why he endorsed Biden during the 2024 presidential election.
Jeffries made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Kristen Welker on NBC News&#8217; &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; when asked about his remarks from February 2024 when he said Biden was &#8220;definitely the strongest candidate to defeat Donald Trump.&#8221;
&#8220;What do you say to Americans who believe you and other top Democrats misled them?&#8221; Welker asked.
&#8220;Well, Joe Biden was the incumbent president at the time. He was the candidate at the time. And I supported him at the time. And that was the right thing to do based on the incumbent president making the decision that he was going to run,&#8221; Jeffries said. &#8220;Obviously things changed in late June and early July. But I think what&#8217;s most important at this moment is not for us to look backwards, but to look forward, solve problems for hard-working American taxpayers, and get things done.&#8221;
Welker then pressed Jeffries about whether he had a responsibility &#8220;to be more forthcoming about what you had seen behind closed doors as it relates to President Biden.&#8221;
&#8220;What I saw behind closed doors was a president who was working hard to get things done — to deliver for the American people on infrastructure, on driving down the high price of life-saving prescription drugs, on bringing domestic manufacturing jobs back home to the United States of America,&#8221; Jeffries claimed. &#8220;It&#8217;s important to understand that President Biden inherited three different catastrophes on Day One: a democracy catastrophe, a public health catastrophe, and an economic catastrophe all at the same time and worked hard to put America in the strongest possible position moving forward.&#8221;

On Monday, while much of the nation celebrated Donald Trump’s certification as the President-elect, Democrat leaders Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a prayer session commemorating January 6, 2021, while ripping Republicans.
The session started with House Chaplain Margaret Kibben intoning a prayer that included her saying, “What was intended to be a historical parliamentary procedure turned quickly into turmoil and frustration and anger and fear.&#8221; Kibben then went on to discuss &#8220;enemies within&#8221; the country.
&#8220;Wherever we find ourselves to be today we ask that You would in some way transform our memories, that the blessing we would have would be to be the reminder of the calling to which You have called us,&#8221; Kibben said. &#8220;To serve You carefully and faithfully; to deal with all that comes across the threshold, enemies within, enemies from without our own country.”
Schumer then said: “We’re also here because we must never forget: Right in this area is where the people who sought to intimidate and also use violence to overturn our government breached the Capitol walls and the Capitol barrier. And there’s lots of people who want us to forget; who want to sweep it under the rug, who want to change the story. We will never forget. &#8230; We hope also we serve as an example to our Republican colleagues. We are not election deniers.”
Jeffries followed with his own hyperbolic statement, using the opportunity to leech President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s statement after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, when the Japanese killed over 2,400 civilians and military personnel. Roosevelt had stated, “Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”
“January 6, 2021, is a day that will forever live in infamy,” Jeffries declared. “A violent mob attacked the Capitol as part of a concerted effort to halt the peaceful transfer of power in the United States of America for the first time in our history.” He called the protests of January 6 “unconscionable, unacceptable, and unAmerican.”
Jeffries, however, has a history of questioning election results.
In March 2019, Jeffries <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/transcript-rep-hakeem-jeffries-on-face-the-nation-march-24-2019/">stated</a> on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,”  “The American people deserve to know whether Donald Trump is either A) A legitimate president B) A Russian asset C) The functional equivalent of an organized crime boss or D) Just a useful idiot who happens to have been victimized by the greatest collection of coincidences in the history of the republic.”
Schumer concluded, “And one more thing I’d like to say, and that is: to those who used violence and intimidation to threaten our government, to hurt our government, particularly to those who threatened police officers, pardoning them would set a terrible example for the future in American and for the world, that it was okay, that it was forgivable to do this.”
With reference to “threatening the government,” in March 2020, at a rally hosted by the far-left Center for Reproductive Rights near the Supreme Court, Schumer, then-Senate minority leader, appeared to threaten U.S. Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
“Inside the walls of this court, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments, as you know, for the first major abortion rights cases since Justice Kavanaugh and Justice Gorsuch came to the bench,” Schumer said. “We know what’s at stake. Over the last three years, women’s reproductive rights have come under attack in a way we haven’t seen in modern history. Republican legislatures are waging a war on women, all women, and they’re taking away fundamental rights. I want to tell you Gorsuch; I want to tell you Kavanaugh; you have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won&#8217;t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”

The GOP-led <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House</a> chose on Friday to keep Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) on as speaker for the 119th <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/congress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Congress</a>, a triumph for the man who faced some resistance within his own party after roughly 14 months on the job despite being endorsed by President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> and other key allies.
A total of 218 Republicans voted for Johnson, giving him the majority he needed for victory in the first ballot, while 215 Democrats backed Minority Leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hakeem-jeffries" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hakeem Jeffries</a> (D-NY). An individual needed <a href="https://x.com/ChadPergram/status/1874625607985967600" target="_blank" rel="noopener">218 votes</a> to win the gavel if all 434 sitting members backed someone by name after former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/matt-gaetz-resigns-from-congress-following-attorney-general-nomination" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resigned</a> after last year&#8217;s election amid a brief push to become the next U.S. attorney general. Frustrated with Johnson&#8217;s leadership in a divided Congress, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) became the sole Republican to reject Johnson&#8217;s bid. Other GOP holdouts came around and voted for Johnson.

Johnson, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-elects-mike-johnson-as-speaker" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first became the 56th speaker</a> via a late October 2023 vote that ended a weeks-long stalemate after the House booted then-Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kevin-mccarthy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kevin McCarthy</a> (R-CA) from the role, had to contend with a Democrat-led Senate along with a slim GOP majority on issues such as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-last-minute-funding-bill-to-avert-shutdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spending</a>. In the new term, following the 2024 election, Republicans still narrowly control the House and have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/john-thune-elected-senate-majority-leader" target="_blank" rel="noopener">command of the Senate</a> as well as the White House.
The vote on Friday was not without drama. At first, it looked as if Johnson just barely fell short of the threshold for victory in the first ballot.
Massie backed Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), who ran a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/emmer-drops-speaker-bid-hours-after-winning-gop-nomination" target="_blank" rel="noopener">short-lived campaign</a> for the speakership after McCarthy was ousted. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) picked Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who also tried to win the gavel during the 2023 vacuum and also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-gop-drops-jordan-as-speaker-nominee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faltered</a>. And Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) voted for Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL). Several other Republicans initially declined to vote when their names were called, but ultimately backed Johnson at the end of roll call.
After a long pause and lots of deliberating among members, Norman and Self changed their votes to pick Johnson.

He also vowed to task &#8220;that working group with reviewing existing audits of federal agencies and entities created by Congress – and issuing a report to my office for public release&#8221; and request &#8220;House committees undertake aggressive authorizations and appropriations reviews, including providing additional resources where needed, to expose irresponsible or illegal practices and hold agencies/individuals accountable that have weaponized government against the American people.&#8221;
With a speaker in place, House business for the new term will get underway, including consideration of a 36-page <a href="https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20241230/119th%20Rules%20Package%20for%20Circulation.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rules package</a> that includes a provision making it <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-to-consider-raising-threshold-for-motion-to-vacate-against-speaker" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more difficult</a> to cast out a speaker for at least the next two years. This section requires nine majority party members to initiate a privileged &#8220;motion to vacate&#8221; the speaker — up from a threshold of one member that was used against McCarthy and ultimately <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mccarthy-ousted-from-speakership-after-democrats-side-with-matt-gaetz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">led to his downfall</a>.

Less than 24 hours after a stopgap bill to avert a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/government-shutdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">government shutdown</a> that was packed with add-ons was unveiled, the measure appears to have been stopped in its tracks in the face of opposition.
House members <a href="https://x.com/jordainc/status/1869508193933787505" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were</a> <a href="https://x.com/nicholaswu12/status/1869507940740366785" target="_blank" rel="noopener">notified</a> on Wednesday evening that no votes were expected to happen for the rest of the day following an earlier <a href="https://x.com/slisker/status/1869435181318185394" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advisory</a> that suggested they were possible.

Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) <a href="https://x.com/realannapaulina/status/1869500575760744759" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shared</a> on X the continuing resolution (CR) would not be coming to the House floor for a vote and negotiators were <a href="https://x.com/realannapaulina/status/1869509142085505501" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;re-working&#8221;</a> the legislation.
Congressional leaders <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/congress-reveals-another-stopgap-bill-to-avert-government-shutdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> the <a href="https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20241216/CR.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">initial CR</a> on Tuesday. Trump said in a <a href="https://x.com/JDVance/status/1869495076604227726" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> with Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), the VP-elect, that Congress should pass a temporary funding bill only if it comes with a debt ceiling increase, and no &#8220;DEMOCRAT GIVEAWAYS.&#8221;
Lawmakers have until midnight on Friday to pass some kind of legislation to fund various facets of the federal government, or a government shutdown could happen.
&#8220;House Republicans have been ordered to shut down the government,&#8221; House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) <a href="https://x.com/RepJeffries/status/1869493488460669104" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post to X when it became clear the CR was in trouble.

Democrats still seem quite troubled about what went wrong in the 2024 election. They keep offering various reasons for the loss. Their reasons range from the failure of the meritocracy, according to David Brooks, to the utter disconnect of the American people involving racism, sexism, bigotry, and homophobia — all of it.
Well, the latest explanation comes courtesy of Kamala Harris&#8217; advisers. According to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/11/20/why-harris-lost-democrats-lessons/">The Washington Post:</a>

This is a very convenient explanation for Democrats, because it means they don&#8217;t have to change anything. All of this feels like whistling past the political graveyard. It is a refusal to deal with the underlying factors that led to the Democrats getting shellacked across the country.
Well, now we’re getting this same sort of sense from the so-called “resistance.” There&#8217;s a lengthy article in <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/20/us/trump-womens-march-protests-activism.html?searchResultPosition=3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Times</a> discussing Trump&#8217;s resistance encountering fatigue. It turns out that all of the ladies who protested during the first Trump administration are a little frustrated because they&#8217;re not quite sure what to do.
According to The New York Times:
<blockquote>The first Trump presidency spawned the largest protests the country had seen in half a century.
But not everyone wants to participate in another four years of mass movement work. When Women’s March shared information about an upcoming rally on Instagram, one person responded, “No im tired, yall have fun though.” (Women’s March later hid some of the pushback and limited who could respond to a handful of posts.)
On TikTok, plans for the march were met with memes of women saying, “Get somebody else to do it.” “This is an opportunity for a national brunch day for the 93 percent,” said one user, referring to the 93 percent of Black women who exit polls suggested had voted for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Others questioned whether the previous protests had resulted in substantial concessions.</blockquote>
So they&#8217;re realizing that their protest movements have accomplished nothing. But what they refuse to recognize is the reason why those protest movements are accomplishing nothing.
Maybe it&#8217;s because there was at least the patina of legitimacy to many of the causes people were protesting back in the 1960s and 1980s.
And now, as it turns out, the causes they&#8217;re backing are just bad.

And this brings us to the controversy of the day.
Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) has now sponsored a resolution on the floor of the House that is going to be implemented. It suggests that women should be able to use their bathrooms without men with penises in those same bathrooms. 
This seems perfectly legitimate. In fact, this is relatively non-controversial in the regular world. And these transgender bathroom rules are perfectly obvious. There&#8217;s nothing particularly shocking about them. A man should use the men&#8217;s bathroom and a woman should use the women&#8217;s bathroom. Apparently, according to the Left, this is very bad. How dare Nancy Mace. How dare she? 
Mace appeared on Scripps News and during the interview the anchor kept insisting to Mace that she was barring a woman from using the bathrooms, to which Mace responded, “No.” Sarah McBride is a dude whose name was Tim McBride and still has all of the male appendages. In her <a href="https://www.scrippsnews.com/politics/congress/rep-nancy-mace-tells-scripps-news-new-bills-would-limit-bathroom-use-for-transgender-people" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview with Scripps News</a> Mace says a true thing, but an offensively true thing:
<blockquote>Scripps: I just want to add that the congresswoman-elect does identify as a woman. I will be…
Mace: She&#8217;s not a woman. It&#8217;s a man. She was born a man. She&#8217;s a man. She is biologically a male. That is science. You guys on the Left in the mainstream media want to say, “follow the science.” Let&#8217;s follow the science. Okay. He is a man. He can wear a dress. He can call himself, his pronouns can be she or her. But he doesn&#8217;t belong in a women&#8217;s restroom, period.</blockquote>
Again, according to the polling data, most Americans agree with this. This is not a controversial proposition, but the Left can&#8217;t let go of it.
For example, Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has <a href="https://x.com/Acyn/status/1859047222895407475">suggested</a> the real problem is Mace and company, of course:
<blockquote>This is what we&#8217;re doing. This is the lesson that you&#8217;ve drawn from the election in November. This is your priority. If you want to bully a member of Congress as opposed to welcoming her to join this body so that all of us can work together.</blockquote>
The priorities are truth and protection of women. One of the most annoying things about Democratic policy on this particular proposition is that they do something totally abnormal and out of the boundaries of decent human behavior — then, they question when people bring it up.
For his part, Speaker Johnson has put out a <a href="https://mikejohnson.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=1484">statement</a> saying,
<blockquote>All single sex facilities in the Capitol and House office buildings such as restrooms, changing rooms and locker rooms are reserved for individuals of that biological sex.</blockquote>
It&#8217;s also important to note each member’s office has its own private restroom. Unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol. Women deserve women&#8217;s only spaces. Again, perfectly reasonable. There are alternative solutions. 
Despite many of his heterodox positions with his party, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) is still a progressive. He <a href="https://x.com/SenFettermanPA/status/1859316484029259986" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a> out, 
<blockquote>There’s no job I’m afraid to lose if it requires me to degrade anyone. If that’s a defining issue for a voter, there will be a different candidate. We have a bathroom in my office that anybody is welcome to use, including Representative-elect Sarah McBride.</blockquote>
I&#8217;m glad that you want Sarah McBride to use your bathroom. That&#8217;s your choice, senator. Also, you don&#8217;t get to decide whether women ought to have men in their bathroom.

Why does all this matter? Because the reason Democrats lost is the cultural disconnect that the people on the coasts and the Democratic elite have with the rest of America. These are noncontroversial propositions that are made controversial by the Democratic Party.
That is what is happening. And these are belief systems that are held so deeply that even the most elite people in the Democratic Party — people who face no discrimination in America — are now treating the election of Donald Trump and the restoration of some form of normality as a grave threat to them.

Here’s the thing to understand about Donald J. Trump: He is like Batman. He is vengeance.
That is the theme of Trump II. Trump has said this before: that he is the vengeance of the common man.
That’s taken by the Left to mean he&#8217;s going to jail his political opponents and use all of the facets of government to target the people he hates.
But that&#8217;s not what Trump means when he says he is your vengeance.
He means that the American people have been victimized by a small group of elitists who have decided that their morality is superior to those of Americans, that they ought to be able to rule every area of American life using their pseudo-expertise.
Trump is the revenge of the normies. He&#8217;s the revenge of the common man.

Here’s a kind of frivolous example: There’s a hot fight that has now broken out in the House of Representatives over a representative who calls himself Sarah McBride. Sarah McBride is a man named Tim McBride who changed his name to Sarah and identifies as a trans person. He insists on using the ladies bathroom, even though, of course, he&#8217;s a dude.
Rep. Nancy Mace, who just happens to be a female, as in biological female, has now sponsored a rule on the House floor. This rule says that if you&#8217;re a lady, you ought to use the ladies’ room; if you&#8217;re a dude, you ought to use the dudes’ room.
Mace was asked if her effort entailed a response to Congresswoman McBride coming to Congress? She <a href="https://x.com/charliekirk11/status/1858938196371096054" target="_blank" rel="noopener">answered</a>:
<blockquote>Yes, absolutely, and then some. I&#8217;m not going to stand for a man — if someone with a penis is in the women&#8217;s locker room, that&#8217;s not okay. And I&#8217;m a victim of abuse myself. I&#8217;m a rape survivor. I have PTSD from the abuse I&#8217;ve suffered at the hands of a man. And I know how vulnerable women and girls are in private spaces. So I&#8217;m absolutely, 100%, going to stand in the way of any man who wants to be in a women&#8217;s restroom, in our locker rooms, in our changing rooms. I will be there fighting every step of the way.</blockquote>
Nancy Mace: clear, concise and very brutally honest.
This, of course, angered Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic minority leader, who <a href="https://x.com/Breaking911/status/1858953643946557501" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>, “As Katherine Clark indicated, the notion that this incoming small House Republican Conference majority is beginning to transition to the new Congress by bullying a member of Congress. This is what we&#8217;re doing? This is the lesson that you&#8217;ve drawn?”
The lesson that you have drawn is to continue to maintain an absolute falsehood. And that falsehood has been purveyed throughout our culture, throughout our society, to the point where people are afraid to speak basic common sense such as: boys are boys, and girls are girls.
We are all tired of this. We&#8217;re done. When there is a norm, when there is a center to a civilization, it’s not difficult to tolerate people on the fringe as part of the system, because if there is a center of gravity, the planets will circle that center of gravity.
But when a decision is made — as the Left has decided to do over the course of my lifetime — to destroy the center of gravity, when the center no longer holds, when the norm has been destroyed in the name of the fringe, eventually a new gravity will form. Eventually there will be a new center.
The new center now is that the bulk of people, particularly in America, are still normies. And the new center is going to look a lot like the old center.
That is what is happening right now. That is what&#8217;s happening with Team Trump.
The political effect of this is that the Left pushed too far in one direction — and the snapback is coming.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) pushed back on Sunday against members of his party who are claiming that former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) is a &#8220;Russian asset.&#8221;
Jeffries made the remarks during an interview on NBC News&#8217; &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; with Kristen Welker when asked about Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/16/us-news/wasserman-schultz-sparks-backlash-for-claiming-tulsi-gabbard-is-a-russian-asset/">saying</a> last week that Gabbard was &#8220;by most assessments, a Russian asset.&#8221;
President-elect Donald Trump nominated Gabbard, who is now a Republican, to be the director of national intelligence.
&#8220;Here&#8217;s what I have to say about several of the nominations that have been made by the incoming president, including the one that Debbie Wasserman Schultz was referring to,&#8221; Jeffries said. &#8220;The incoming president, throughout the campaign, promised the American people that we would have the best economy, the best border security, and the best administration possible.&#8221;
&#8220;The question that has to be asked: Is this the best that we can do in the context of some of these nominations?&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Is this the very best that America has to offer for a moment like this, with so many challenges that we confront?&#8221;
He said Gabbard and others were &#8220;not&#8221; the best picks for the roles and said that &#8220;America deserves better.&#8221;

&#8220;But I&#8217;m open to scrutinizing whatever information is presented to all of us,&#8221; he added. &#8220;But this is going to fall on Senate Democrats and Senate Republicans.&#8221;

&#8221; — all the way through. I think at the end of the day, the popular vote will be close. I think it was, you know, an Electoral College outcome that most people on the Democratic side didn’t expect because everything broke at the presidential level in terms of Donald Trump’s direction.&#8221;
As of Tuesday, November 12, the popular vote totals stand at 71,898,818 (48.1%) for Vice President Kamala Harris and 75,158,912 (50.3%) for Trump — a difference of more than three million votes.

Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) has begun a bullish campaign to stay on as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/house-speaker" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Speaker of the House</a> with the expectation that Republicans will retain the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House</a> in addition to retaking the Senate and the White House.
He sent a <a href="https://www.speaker.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Speaker-Johnson-Dear-Colleague-11.6.24.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to GOP colleagues on Wednesday, asking for their support in the House-wide election that will likely take place in January as the next session of Congress gets underway.
“I&#8217;m ready to take the field with all of you, and I am humbly asking for your support to continue leading this Conference as your Speaker,&#8221; Johnson said.
&#8220;It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve with you thus far, and I look forward to playing the biggest offense of our lives. We have a country to save — and we will,&#8221; he added.
The GOP-led House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-elects-mike-johnson-as-speaker" target="_blank" rel="noopener">elected</a> Johnson to be the speaker in October 2023 after then-Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was cast out of the role <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-kevin-mccarthy-elected-next-speaker-of-the-house" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he won</a> earlier that year after multiple rounds of voting.
During his one year in the top leadership position, Johnson had to contend with not just a Democrat-led Senate and President Joe Biden, but also a narrow GOP majority on matters such as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-fails-to-pass-funding-stopgap-linked-to-non-citizen-voting-crackdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">government spending</a>.
That power dynamic is now set to change as Republicans won back the Senate in the 2024 election, and former President Donald Trump was re-elected to the White House after losing in 2020.

For the House, the situation is less clear.
Republicans were projected to win 210 races while Democrats had 194 as of Wednesday afternoon, according to <a href="https://election.dailywire.com/?_gl=1*10h8bop*_gcl_au*MjE0Mjc3Mjk2OC4xNzMwMDM5MjE4*_ga*MTEyNTQ2Njg5Ni4xNjgyODYyMjcx*_ga_CZKR9ZYKJP*MTczMDkzOTcyOC4xMTMwLjEuMTczMDk0MDgwOC41OC4wLjA." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Decision Desk HQ</a>. A party needs 218 seats for a majority.
Although Decision Desk HQ <a href="https://x.com/DecisionDeskHQ/status/1854214602638393728" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Republicans had a 95% chance to stay in control of the House, Democrats were not quite ready to admit defeat.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) released a <a href="https://x.com/hakeemjeffries/status/1854229739021439194" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> insisting the chamber &#8220;remains very much in play,&#8221; citing races that have yet to be called in Arizona, Oregon, Iowa, and California.
&#8220;The party that will hold the majority in the House of Representatives in January 2025 has yet to be determined,&#8221; he added. &#8220;We must count every vote.&#8221;
During his victory speech in Florida, Trump thanked Johnson — who was clapping nearby on the stage.
Johnson has been &#8220;doing a terrific job,&#8221; Trump said.
In his letter to fellow GOP lawmakers, Johnson listed a number of policy priorities in line with Trump&#8217;s &#8220;Make America Great Again&#8221; movement.
&#8220;The mandate that has been delivered shows that a majority of Americans are eager for secure borders, lower costs, peace through strength, and a return to common sense,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;With unified Republican government, if we meet this historic moment together, the next two years can result in the most consequential Congress of the modern era,&#8221; Johnson added.
It was not immediately clear whether any other Republicans will run for the speaker&#8217;s gavel this time around.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) also sent a <a href="https://punchbowl.news/wp-content/uploads/Steve-Scalise-Dear-Colleague-November-6-2024.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to GOP colleagues seeking their support for another stint in his leadership position.
Scalise laid out a &#8220;First 100-Day Agenda&#8221; that included locking in the &#8220;Trump Tax Cuts,&#8221; as well as plans to &#8220;unleash American energy&#8221; and &#8220;surge resources to the southern border.&#8221;

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) signaled over the weekend that he supports Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris&#8217; price control policies despite numerous economists warning that it would be a disaster.
Jeffries made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Jake Tapper on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; when asked about her plan to blame businesses for the inflation that the Biden-Harris administration caused and penalize them by implementing price controls.
Tapper said: &#8220;Jason Furman, who was the top economist for President Obama, said that her plan is not a good idea, quote, &#8216;The good case scenario is, price gouging is a message, not a reality. The bad case scenario is that this is a real proposal. You will end up with bigger shortages, less supply and ultimately risk higher prices and worse outcomes for consumers if you try to enforce this in a real way, which I don&#8217;t know if they would or wouldn&#8217;t do.'&#8221;
When asked if he supported Harris&#8217; proposed price controls, which are the hallmark of Marxist states like the Soviet Union and Venezuela, Jeffries responded: &#8220;Kamala Harris has articulated a very important plan to make sure that we are lowering costs for everyday Americans, that we are ending price gouging throughout the country, and that, of course, we are growing the middle class and making sure that everyday Americans can get ahead.&#8221;
&#8220;So we, as House Democrats, look forward to working with Kamala Harris to drive costs down,&#8221; he claimed.
When Tapper noted that even The Washington Post Editorial Board warned that the policy would be a disaster, Jeffries shifted to blaming the Trump administration for &#8220;catastrophes&#8221; that the Biden-Harris administration inherited, which, in his mind, included the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Seven Republicans and six Democrats <a href="https://x.com/nicholaswu12/status/1817973672155693501" target="_blank" rel="noopener">will serve</a> on the panel, which the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-votes-to-establish-task-force-on-trump-assassination-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House approved in a 416-0</a> vote last week. Many of the lawmakers chosen to be members have military, law enforcement, or prosecutorial experience.
Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), the lawmaker who represents the district where the rally shooting happened and introduced the resolution to create the task force, has been selected as chairman. Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) will serve as ranking member.
The other GOP members will include Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) and Reps. David Joyce (R-OH), Laurel Lee (R-FL), Michael Waltz (R-FL), Clay Higgins (R-LA), and Pat Fallon (TX). Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bennie-thompson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bennie Thompson</a> (D-MS), who served as chairman of the now-defunct January 6 Committee, was not selected to participate. The conservative House Freedom Caucus <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/conservatives-demand-jan-6-committee-chair-be-kept-off-trump-rally-shooting-task-force" target="_blank" rel="noopener">specifically demanded</a> Thompson not become a member after he introduced a bill that could strip Trump of Secret Service protection under certain conditions. Thompson <a href="https://x.com/emilybrooksnews/status/1816135746346164291" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly said</a> he had no interest in being on the task force.
According to Johnson&#8217;s office, the task force will take over all pending House inquiries into the rally shooting and has subpoena authority. The panel&#8217;s goals are to &#8220;understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination,&#8221; &#8220;ensure accountability,&#8221; and to &#8220;prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again.&#8221;
The task force will &#8220;make recommendations for reform to the relevant government agencies and recommend any necessary legislation to implement the reforms,&#8221; Johnson&#8217;s office added.
House lawmakers have already begun to look into the attempted assassination of Trump, which resulted in the former president getting <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fbi-confirms-trump-was-struck-by-a-bullet" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wounded by a bullet in his right ear</a>. One rallygoer was killed, and two others were injured. A Secret Service sniper shot and killed the gunman, identified as a 20-year-old man named Thomas Matthew Crooks.
One day after she testified before the House last week, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/secret-service-director-resigns-amid-uproar-over-trump-assassination-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resigned</a> as she faced backlash over the security failure underlying the attack. FBI Director Christoper Wray <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fbi-says-trump-rally-shooter-flew-drone-200-yards-away-from-stage-hours-before-assassination-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also testified</a> about his agency&#8217;s investigation into the shooting.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House of Representatives</a> voted unanimously on Wednesday night to establish a task force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> earlier this month at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania. 
Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) introduced the <a href="https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20240722/Updated%20Task%20Force%20Res%20-%20Kelly%20PA.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resolution</a> that <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-resolution/1367/all-actions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> 416-0 in support. The vote comes as the Judiciary and Oversight Committees have begun conducting their own investigations into the attack on Trump. 
The resolution says that the task force will “investigate and fully examine all actions by any agency, Department, officer, or employee of the federal government, as well as State and local law enforcement or any other State or local government or private entities or individuals, related to the attempted assassination of Donald J. Trump on July 13, 2024 in Butler, Pennsylvania.”
According to the resolution, the task force must “issue a final report of its findings to the House not later than December 13, 2024, including any recommendations for legislative reforms necessary to prevent future security lapses.”
The task force will consist of 13 members, the majority of whom will be selected by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA). On Tuesday, Johnson announced his support for the task force alongside House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
“The security failures that allowed an assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life are shocking. In response, [Jeffries] and I are announcing a House Task Force made up of seven Republicans and six Democrats to thoroughly investigate the matter,” Johnson <a href="https://x.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1815721812967203239" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X. “The task force will be empowered with subpoena authority and will move quickly to find the facts, ensure accountability, and make certain such failures never happen again.”
House lawmakers have already heard testimony about the attack from FBI Director Christopher Wray, law enforcement, and former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. 
Cheatle resigned on Tuesday after she was grilled on Monday over the security lapses that allowed 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks to access a rooftop only about 150 yards away from where Trump spoke during the rally. Crooks shot Trump, striking him in his right ear, critically injured two rally attendees, and killed 50-year-old Corey Comperatore.
