<p>CNN anchor Dana Bash brought in House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for a Sunday morning interview on &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; and he spent most of his time declaring President Donald Trump&#8217;s recent actions and policy positions to be racially motivated.</p>
<p>Jeffries was particularly concerned with Trump&#8217;s efforts to reframe a number of exhibits that are part of the Smithsonian Museums in the nation&#8217;s capital — exhibits that Trump said work overtime to paint the United States in a less than flattering light.</p>
<p>Jeffries claimed that Trump was &#8220;behaving like a racial arsonist&#8221; and attempting to whitewash America&#8217;s history with regard to slavery.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s extraordinary that he would make such a historically ignorant statement,&#8221; Jeffries complained, adding, &#8220;The Smithsonian should continue to hold the line and make sure that this very painful part of American history is not erased.&#8221;</p>

<p>As House lawmakers prepare to leave Washington, D.C., and begin their August recess this week, party leaders laid out plans for what their caucus members will be doing over the next several weeks.</p>
<p>In a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5nKJI4m8xg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press conference</a> on Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) dismissed the notion that Republicans would be taking it easy for the rest of the summer. Rather, he contended, they will be meeting voters and promoting the &#8220;One, Big, Beautiful Bill&#8221; that passed through Congress and was signed by President Donald Trump earlier this month.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is the last leadership press conference before we enter the August district work period,&#8221; he declared. &#8220;Around here, people call it the August recess. It is not that. I know that lots of people in the press corps are going to be able to enjoy some downtime with friends and families, and we commend you for that. But House Republicans aren&#8217;t going to get to participate in all that stuff because this month of August is not a vacation.&#8221;</p>
<p>Johnson noted this period is &#8220;arguably the most important work month on our calendar&#8221; because members go home, connect with constituents in person, host roundtables with local businesses and organizations, and &#8220;meet with community stakeholders and local officials.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Really, really important components of the job,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;And frankly, they need to cut through the false and misleading claims about the &#8216;One Big Beautiful Bill&#8217; from the media and the Democrats. As I mentioned, the more people know, the more they greatly favor the bill that we passed, and House Republicans are going to spend the month highlighting how it will positively impact our districts and our communities.&#8221;</p>
<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) used a Democrat leadership <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/c5UkjsJDwwk?t=252s">press conference</a> on Wednesday to argue the &#8220;One Big Beautiful Bill&#8221; and Trump are &#8220;deeply&#8221; unpopular. He also said that all Republicans can do during this August recess is brag about their &#8220;toxic and extreme&#8221; bill that he claimed would cause millions of Americans to lose their healthcare and bestow large tax breaks onto billionaires.</p>
<p>&#8220;During the August district work period, House Democrats will hold events all across the country talking about our efforts to build an affordable economy that lowers the high cost of living in the United States of America, to protect the healthcare of the American people, and to combat the cultural corruption that exists in this town that undermines the ability to have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people,&#8221; Jeffries said.</p>
<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re looking forward to holding town hall meetings across the country, at the same time that Republicans will continue to run away from town hall meetings,&#8221; he added. &#8220;But we will fill the void that they are leaving and engage aggressively with the American people, all in service of building a country where everyone can experience the American dream.&#8221;</p>
<p>It remains unclear whether the Senate will have an August recess.</p>
<p>Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-calls-on-senate-to-cancel-long-weekends-and-get-his-people-confirmed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called on</a> Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to cancel &#8220;long weekends&#8221; and the upper chamber&#8217;s August recess to confirm more of his nominees.</p>
<p>&#8220;We’re thinking about it,&#8221; Thune said on Monday, according to <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5412240-thune-august-recess-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a>.</p>

<p>As Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents face increasing threats of violence, a Massachusetts lawmaker wants to make them more easily identifiable.</p>
<p>Massachusetts State Representative James Hawkins on Monday introduced a <a href="https://malegislature.gov/Bills/194/HD4886" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> that would require ICE agents to remove face coverings while performing their public duties — making him the latest Democrat pushing to expose immigration officials. On Tuesday, Senators Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2025/07/09/dems-push-mask-bills-amid-ice-attacks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> a bill that would prohibit federal agents from concealing their identities with masks while also requiring them to &#8220;display their name or badge number and the agency they represent.&#8221;</p>
<p>In New York City, lawmakers — including Comptroller Brad Lander, who was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-democrat-nyc-mayoral-candidate-arrested-by-ice-at-immigration-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> by ICE for interfering with a deportation — <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/new-york-playbook-pm/2025/07/09/unmasking-ice-agents-state-bill-ny-brad-lander-tony-simone-00445241" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> a similar bill, with Lander saying ICE agents wear masks &#8220;for the purpose of striking fear into asylum seekers and immigrants in the hope that they will be terrorized by masked gangs who seek to grab and abduct them.&#8221;</p>
<p>But according to White House Border Czar Tom Homan, ICE agents are simply masking up to protect themselves.</p>
<p>&#8220;Some of you here say, &#8216;Why are they wearing masks?'&#8221; Homan <a href="https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/1928093476228317221" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> during a May press conference. &#8220;They&#8217;re trying to protect themselves and their families! &#8230; They&#8217;re being doxxed! … Assaults are up, and it won&#8217;t be tolerated!&#8221;</p>
<p>There has been a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ice-officials-slam-cnn-for-promoting-app-that-helps-illegals-dodge-federal-agents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">500% increase</a> in assaults on ICE agents in recent months, according to the Department of Homeland Security. As The Daily Wire reported, an app called ICEBlock allows users to alert one another to the presence of ICE agents, something the White House says puts agents in imminent danger. Just yesterday, Border Patrol agents <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/far-left-activists-in-l-a-arrested-for-targeting-immigration-enforcement-vehicles-with-tire-spikes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> four people in Los Angeles who are suspected of planting tire spikes in front of vehicles used by federal immigration enforcement agents.</p>
<p>President Donald Trump also underscored why border patrol and ICE agents may need to wear masks.</p>
<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re great patriots,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-seethes-dems-floating-bill-requiring-unmasking-ice-cbp-agents-must-hate-america" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;If you expose them because of, you know, statements like have been made by Democrats and others on the left, usually mostly, I think, probably exclusively, you put them in great danger, tremendous danger.&#8221;</p>
<p>Still, Democrats insist that ICE agents need to be unmasked. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ice-agents-wear-masks-after-threats-to-their-families-but-top-dem-promises-to-id-all-of-them" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pledged</a>  that &#8220;every single&#8221; ICE agent would &#8220;be identified,&#8221; &#8220;no matter what it takes.&#8221;</p>
<p>The Daily Wire reached out to Hawkins&#8217;s office but did not receive an immediate response.</p>

<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has made it clear over the course of several interviews that he does not want to talk about New York City&#8217;s Democratic mayoral frontrunner, Zohran Mamdani.</p>
<p>Shortly after Mamdani — a self-described Democratic Socialist — bested disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) to win the Democratic primary, ABC&#8217;s Jonathan Karl asked Jeffries whether he was prepared to endorse his fellow New Yorker.</p>
<p>Jeffries, at the time, said that he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/spin-cycle-how-do-you-solve-a-problem-like-mamdani">did not know</a> Mamdani well enough yet to throw his weight behind the campaign — and he mentioned one sticking point in particular that he believed would have to be addressed before he could do so: Mamdani&#8217;s position on Israel.</p>
<p>&#8220;Globalizing the Intifada, by way of example, is not an acceptable phrasing,” Jeffries said. “He’s going to have to clarify his position on that as he moves forward. With respect to the Jewish communities that I represent, I think our nominee is going to have to convince folks that he is prepared to aggressively address the rise in antisemitism in the city of New York, which has been an unacceptable development.&#8221;</p>

<p>When Jeffries appeared on ABC&#8217;s midday talk show &#8220;The View&#8221; about a week later, the hosts asked him whether he planned to join those in his party — like Mamdani — who were calling for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be defunded. Jeffries tiptoed around the question, saying that he believed there should be &#8220;oversight&#8221; when ICE agents were using more aggressive tactics, but he did not directly answer the question.</p>

<p>One day later, on MSNBC, Ari Melber asked Jeffries about Mamdani directly, wondering whether he believed the socialist&#8217;s surprise win over &#8220;establishment&#8221; Cuomo was good for the Democratic Party.</p>
<p>Instead of addressing whether or not Mamdani&#8217;s win was good for the party, Jeffries explained how he had &#8220;outworked&#8221; and &#8220;out-communicated&#8221; his opposition. He then pivoted to claim President Donald Trump — whose second term has seen falling gas prices and egg prices as well as rising jobs numbers and lowering inflation rates — had done nothing to address the high cost of living that most Americans were facing.</p>
<p>Melber immediately called him out, saying, &#8220;Respectfully, I see the pivot. You know, you&#8217;re good at this. That&#8217;s how you got this job.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I have no idea what these people are talking about!&#8221; Jeffries said, clarifying that his sole focus was on pushing back against President Trump&#8217;s agenda. &#8220;We are going to continue to focus our efforts as we did on the House floor in connection with Donald Trump’s one big, ugly bill on pushing back against the extremism that has been unleashed on the American people.&#8221;</p>

<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is back in the news this week — but he probably wishes he wasn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>The New York Democrat on Sunday posted a photo of himself leaning against a park bench in Brooklyn, with the caption: “Home Sweet Home.&#8221;</p>
<p>The problem: the photo was obviously edited, as evidenced by the fact that the area around Jeffries&#8217;s legs was warped, as was the bench behind him.</p>

<p>Jeffries posted the picture upon his return home from his <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/07/03/congress/hakeem-jeffries-longest-house-speech-00438933" target="_blank" rel="noopener">record-breaking</a> 8-hour and 45-minute speech in the House on Thursday, in which he attempted to delay the vote on the Big Beautiful Bill. The House passed the bill shortly after Jeffries finished speaking, and President Donald Trump signed the bill into law on July 4th.</p>
<p>Jeffries’ social media team seems to be defective when it comes to photoshoots. On Thursday, he posted a photo of him in his office with the caption “Protecting your healthcare is as American as baseball, motherhood, and apple pie.” In the photo, Jeffries is unsmiling, and stiffly holding a baseball bat.</p>

<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) set a new record on Thursday when his &#8220;Magic Minute&#8221; dragged on for more than eight hours and 33 minutes, challenging even his most ardent supporters&#8217; commitment to keeping their eyes open so that they could watch him meet that milestone.</p>
<p>While the House of Representatives does not have the filibuster — a fact that mercifully spares members from stunts of this caliber most of the time — there is a privilege afforded to party leaders known as the &#8220;Magic Minute,&#8221; which essentially allows them to speak uninterrupted for as long as they&#8217;d like. Jeffries made use of that privilege, but only C-Span appeared to notice when he broke the record set by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy when he was the Minority Leader.</p>

<p>Jeffries was an outspoken critic of the Senate filibuster when it was being used by Republicans — calling it a &#8220;Jim Crow relic&#8221; among other things — and his record-setting floor speech ultimately accomplished little more than reminding his critics of his own words, which they happily used against him.</p>

<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) delivered a theatrical speech spanning more than 6 hours on Thursday morning, voicing his opposition to President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” and the after-show reviews could not be more negative.</p>
<p>Jeffries began the speech just after 5 a.m., announcing he would take his “sweet time” to hold up the bill&#8217;s vote, prompting House Democrats to cheer and applaud.</p>
<p>But their excitement didn’t last long.</p>

Hakeem Jeffries Performs Hours-Long ‘Surrender Ceremony’ As Fellow Dems Fight To Stay Awake

<p>Several high profile Democrats have responded after Zohran Mamdani, the presumptive Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City, refused to condemn the phrase &#8220;globalize the intifada&#8221; over the weekend.</p>
<p>On Sunday, Mamdani was pressed three times to condemn &#8220;globalize the intifada&#8221; during an appearance on NBC, and each time he refused to do so, but said, &#8220;it&#8217;s not language that I use.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;But do you actually condemn it?&#8221; NBC&#8217;s Kristen Welker pressed, noting that many people hear it as a &#8220;call to violence against Jews.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;With respect to the Jewish communities that I represent, I think our nominee is going to have to convince folks that he is prepared to aggressively address the rise in antisemitism in the City of New York, which has been an unacceptable development,&#8221; Jeffries said.</p>
<p>&#8220;Any mayor, whether you&#8217;re a Democratic mayor, a Republican mayor, an independent mayor, has got to commit to the safety of all of the people of the city of New York,&#8221; Jeffries said.</p>

<p>&#8220;Well, we don&#8217;t really know each other well. Our districts don&#8217;t overlap. I have never had a substantive conversation with him, and so that&#8217;s the next step,&#8221; Jeffries said, adding that he and Mamdani have agreed to sit down and talk.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a New York Democrat came out swinging against Mamdani for refusing to condemn the phrase &#8220;globalize the intifada.&#8221;</p>
<p>“New York constituents I talked to are alarmed. They are alarmed by past public statements. They are alarmed about past public positions, referring to global jihad,” Gillibrand <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/26/us-news/ny-dem-reps-suozzi-gillen-distance-from-socialist-nyc-mayoral-nominee-zohran-mamdani/?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> during a WNYC interview on Thursday.</p>
<p>“This is a very serious issue because people who glorify the slaughter of Jews create fear in our communities,” she said. “The global intifada is a statement that means destroy Israel and kill all the Jews.”</p>
<p>Other Democrats weighed in as well.</p>
<p>Rep. Laura Gillen, a freshman Democrat representing Long Island who is known as a centrist, <a href="https://time.com/7298136/zohran-mamdani-nyc-laura-gillen/?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused</a> Mamdani of “a deeply disturbing pattern of unacceptable antisemitic comments.”</p>
<p>“He is the absolute wrong choice for New York,” Gillen said.</p>
<p>Mamdani, a New York assemblyman representing Queens, won the Democratic primary last week in an upset that threw the New York City mayor&#8217;s race into chaos. Current Mayor Eric Adams and former Governor Andrew Cuomo will both likely run as independents, and Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, will face them all as the Republican candidate.</p>
<p>The general election for mayor will be held on November 4.</p>

<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said on Monday that he does not believe a war powers resolution is necessary for President Donald Trump to attack Iran, noting how recent Democrat occupants of the White House did not wait for Congress.</p>
<p>The top Republican made his stance clear when asked by a reporter on Capitol Hill whether he would allow such a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-squad-endorses-massies-resolution-on-u-s-involvement-in-israel-iran-conflict" target="_blank" rel="noopener">measure</a> from Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) to come to the floor after the U.S. launched strikes on three of Tehran&#8217;s nuclear facilities over the weekend.</p>
<p>“I don&#8217;t think this is an appropriate time for a war powers resolution, and I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s necessary. Listen, for 80 years, presidents of both parties have acted with the same commander in chief authority under Article 2&#8243; of the Constitution, Johnson <a href="https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/does-the-president-need-congress-to-approve-military-actions-in-iran" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.</p>

<p>Johnson went on to mention how Democrats who are complaining now did not seem to mind when former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama conducted military operations in the region without seeking <a href="https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/does-the-president-need-congress-to-approve-military-actions-in-iran" target="_blank" rel="noopener">explicit approval</a> from Congress for those campaigns.</p>
<p>&#8220;You had President Biden use it three times in Middle East operations. President Obama went on an eight-month campaign bombing Libya to take down the regime there. I never heard a Democrat balk about any of that,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;And suddenly now they&#8217;re just up in arms. It&#8217;s all politics. This is not a time for politics.&#8221;</p>
<p>Trump&#8217;s administration contended the strikes over the weekend were necessary to prevent Tehran from achieving a nuclear weapon. Iran <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/iran-attacks-u-s-military-base" target="_blank" rel="noopener">retaliated</a> on Monday by attacking a United States military base in Qatar. The president <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114734424268466099" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> afterwards there were no American casualties and pushed for peace in the region.</p>
<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-CA) claimed on Monday that Trump&#8217;s actions &#8220;do not appear to be consistent&#8221; with the U.S. Constitution after taking &#8220;unilateral offensive military action&#8221; without seeking the go-ahead from Congress.</p>
<p>&#8220;The use of military force, which is offensive in nature, must be approved by the House and the Senate. That’s according to the Constitution. It’s not optional, Donald. It’s not,&#8221; Jeffries <a href="https://x.com/Breaking911/status/1937226965511032973" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.</p>
<p>However, when asked if he supports the war powers resolution from Massie and Khanna, Jeffries <a href="https://x.com/kenklippenstein/status/1937230550512595396" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> that he had not even looked at it.</p>
<p>Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tim-kaine-claims-trump-acted-prematurely-in-striking-iran-presses-ahead-with-war-powers-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unveiled</a> a similar war powers resolution for the upper chamber, which could get a vote in the coming days or weeks.</p>

<p>White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt set the record straight after CNN reported over the weekend that the Trump administration did not provide advanced notice of the United States&#8217;s strike on three Iranian nuclear sites to Democrat leaders in Congress.</p>
<p>On Fox News, Leavitt said there was, in fact, outreach to both Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and the White House had the receipts to prove it.</p>
<p>&#8220;The White House made calls to congressional leadership. They were bipartisan calls. In fact, Hakeem Jeffries couldn&#8217;t be reached. We tried him before the strike and he didn&#8217;t pick up the phone,&#8221; Leavitt said during a &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends&#8221; <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SidHwZUl8RY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a>.</p>

<p>Leavitt added that Jeffries was ultimately briefed after the strike, while Schumer was advised beforehand.</p>
<p>&#8220;This notion that CNN ran with that the White House did not give a heads up to Democrats is just completely false,&#8221; Leavitt said. &#8220;In fact, both Sen. Schumer&#8217;s office and CNN had to retract that story last night because it was a blatant lie and we showed them the timestamps from those phone calls.&#8221;</p>
<p>CNN did initially <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20250622041816/https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/21/politics/republicans-democrats-iran-strikes-briefings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> that no top Democrats were told of Trump&#8217;s plans until after the attack, but later <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/21/politics/republicans-democrats-iran-strikes-briefings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">updated</a> its headline and issued a correction to note that Schumer did receive a call prior to the strike after Leavitt initially <a href="https://x.com/PressSec/status/1936900039752012235" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called out</a> the news outlet on X.</p>
<p>Its revised story said that a source &#8220;conceded&#8221; Schumer had been called a little less than an hour before the attack &#8220;with little detail&#8221; and no mention of which country in which the action was taking place. NBC News reporter Julie Tsirkin <a href="https://x.com/news_jul/status/1936968929051898044" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cited</a> a Schumer aide who called the notification &#8220;perfunctory.&#8221;</p>
<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) defended Trump’s strike on Iran&#8217;s nuclear infrastructure and contended that top members of the legislature were notified.</p>
<p>&#8220;The President made the right call, and did what he needed to do. <p>The GOP-led House moved on Thursday to cut billions in funding for foreign aid and public broadcasting, aligning with the Department of Government Efficiency&#8217;s (DOGE) recommendations to cut programs Republicans deem to be wasteful and ideologically driven.</p>
<p>A <a href="https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20250609/SCALIS_004_xml[6].pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rescissions bill</a> that seeks to take back $9.4 billion in discretionary spending allocated toward foreign aid projects and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides funds to NPR and PBS, passed in a <a href="https://x.com/HouseDailyPress/status/1933251522961313997" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vote</a> of 214-212 <a href="https://x.com/CraigCaplan/status/1933254246561935683" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mostly along</a> party lines.</p>
<p>&#8220;President Trump promised to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government, and today House Republicans took a strong step in delivering on that promise,&#8221; House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) told The Daily Wire. &#8220;By solidifying savings found by DOGE, we’re reining in reckless spending and getting our fiscal house in order.&#8221;</p>
<p>House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) <a href="https://www.majorityleader.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=4551" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> the bill after President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dei-insect-powder-and-trans-resilience-trump-unveils-woke-spending-cuts-request" target="_blank" rel="noopener">submitted</a> a rescissions package seeking the cuts last week. Under the Impoundment Control Act, lawmakers have 45 days to act on the request, and it requires only a simple majority in the House and Senate — meaning the filibuster threshold can be ignored.</p>
<p>The legislation proposes cutting $8.3 billion from U.S. Agency for International Development and the State Department programs, including funding for &#8220;Net Zero Cities&#8221; in Mexico, Iraqi &#8220;Sesame Street,&#8221; and global LGBTQ+ initiatives, and $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, targeting NPR and PBS following choices such as <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/npr-ceo-admits-outlet-was-mistaken-in-refusing-to-cover-hunter-biden-laptop-story/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ignoring</a> the Hunter Biden laptop story and trans-focused programming.</p>

<p>While the House debated the bill, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) <a href="https://x.com/DailyCaller/status/1933236626433716523" target="_blank" rel="noopener">held up</a> a doll of Elmo from &#8220;Sesame Street.&#8221; He bemoaned how lawmakers were debating legislation that &#8220;targets Elmo, and Big Bird, and Daniel Tiger, and &#8216;Sesame Street'&#8221; rather than a bill &#8220;designed to make this country and our economy more affordable.&#8221; Scalise <a href="https://x.com/search?q=jeffries%20elmo&amp;src=typed_query&amp;f=top" target="_blank" rel="noopener">delivered</a> a rebuttal in which he affirmed &#8220;Sesame Street&#8221; is &#8220;doing just fine&#8221; after being <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/19/business/media/sesame-street-netflix-pbs.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">picked up</a> by Netflix. &#8220;What will go away is some of the far-Left, radical views that are being espoused,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>A continuation of the cuts is possible if they make it into fiscal 2026 legislation. Sources on Capitol Hill and the White House expect more requests to implement the so-called DOGE cuts to follow, assuming the first bill manages to pass through both chambers of Congress. It&#8217;s part of a wider effort to reduce the deficit, including income from tariffs and reining in the budget with the &#8220;One Big, Beautiful Bill&#8221; and the appropriations process.</p>
<p>In a post on Truth Social before the vote, Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114671982391481893" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> the rescissions bill a &#8220;NO BRAINER&#8221; and encouraged Republicans to vote for it to &#8220;&#8216;claw back&#8217; $9.4 BILLION DOLLARS in funding for wasteful Foreign Aid, used for Radical &#8216;DEI&#8217; and the Green New SCAM, and the &#8216;Corporation for Public Broadcasting,&#8217; which funds the highly biased NPR and PBS.&#8221;</p>
