Former Democratic presidential hopeful <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marianne-williamson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Marianne Williamson</a> weighed in on the controversy over Haitian migrants and whether or not reports of them taking and eating ducks from local parks — or even cats from their neighbors&#8217; homes — were grounded in reality.
Williamson took to X to express her thoughts on the matter, and declared that voodoo — the religion that is prevalent throughout much of the island nation of Haiti — was a real thing that should not be dismissed outright. In addition, she argued that people dismissing the notion as crazy in an effort to attack former President Donald Trump would likely backfire come Election Day.

As <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-ohio-town-overrun-by-haitian-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">covered</a> by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/podcasts/morning-wire" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a>, Springfield, Ohio, has seen a massive influx of Haitian migrants since 2020, wreaking havoc on public services and causing a myriad of social problems.
But Springfield is not the only town struggling with a sudden influx of Haitian migrants.
Charleroi, a small town in Pennsylvania, has seen a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/charleroi-school-district-immigrant-students/#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2000% increase</a> in its immigration population in the past two years, with the majority coming from Haiti. The small town had a population of about 4,200 in 2022, before the sudden influx. Charleroi&#8217;s population has since <a href="https://www.monvalleyindependent.com/2024/09/12/charleroi-approves-73k-increase-in-police-force-budget/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">doubled</a>, according to Charleroi Council President Kristin Hopkins-Calcek.
Residents are noticing similar problems as Springfield citizens. For one, driving in the area has become increasingly hazardous.
&#8220;The immigrants now have been issued driver&#8217;s licenses but do not know how to read the traffic signs, causing numerous traffic accidents in the borough,&#8221; one long-time resident told The Daily Wire. &#8220;And I stress numerous, just about every week you hear about another causing injury or property damage.&#8221;
&#8220;Cars are going the wrong way and there are wrecks at least once a week,&#8221; another resident said during a City Council meeting, <a href="https://www.monvalleyindependent.com/2024/09/10/car-crashes-becoming-concern-in-charleroi-20240910-0740-592927/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Mon Valley Independent</a> reported this week. &#8220;Three very bad accidents in less than one month. Something needs to be done before somebody is killed.&#8221;

One resident questioned how immigrants are so easily getting driver&#8217;s licenses. In Pennsylvania, immigrants with Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, <a href="https://www.dmv.pa.gov/REALID/Pages/REAL-ID-Non-U.S.Citizens.aspx#:~:text=If%20you%20are%20a%20lawfully,must%20reflect%20your%20current%20name." target="_blank" rel="noopener">are eligible</a> to apply for a driver&#8217;s licenses.
&#8220;We need to reach out to our legislature to make changes on the driving privileges of drivers brought to this area from other countries,&#8221; she <a href="https://www.monvalleyindependent.com/2024/09/10/car-crashes-becoming-concern-in-charleroi-20240910-0740-592927/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;It does not appear that any additional training or licensing is done before they&#8217;re given the privilege of driving a car. Something terrible is going to happen.&#8221;
Similar to Springfield, schools in the Charleroi area are over capacity and struggling to pay for resources and teachers who can teach English as a second language.
&#8220;The Charleroi School District is overwhelmed trying to teach and communicate with all the new students, with most not knowing how to speak English and taking away learning time from the rest of the kids,&#8221; the resident told The Daily Wire.
<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/charleroi-school-district-immigrant-students/#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">According</a> to a CBS report from March, the district had to hire additional ELL (English language learners) teachers, an ELL coach for the teachers, and an interpreter, which cost more than $400,000. An additional $300,000 was projected to be spent for the 2025 school year.
The town is also struggling to beef up law enforcement, due to both the sudden rise in immigrant population and an issue with police retention.
Charleroi has had to <a href="https://www.monvalleyindependent.com/2024/09/12/charleroi-approves-73k-increase-in-police-force-budget/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increase</a> its police budget by $73,000, compared to last year, according to a report from The Mon Valley Independent published Thursday. Residents are worried the increase will spark higher taxes, despite assurances from the council that there won&#8217;t be a larger-than-expected tax increase next year.
“We want to keep the public safe. We are having issues we have never had before,&#8221; Council President Kristin Hopkins-Calcek said. &#8220;Our population has doubled and we have our police enforcing everything that citizens have demanded over time that they enforce.”
As highlighted by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-ohio-town-overrun-by-haitian-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a>, the Biden-Harris administration this past June expanded temporary legal status to 300,000 Haitians, lasting until at least February 2026. This allows these migrants to remain and work in the U.S. until then, and possibly beyond. This was awarded to any Haitian in the U.S. who was here before or on June 3.
Biden also has a program that allows 30,000 migrants per month from Haiti, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to fly directly into the U.S. for two years if they have financial sponsors.

Ohio Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-dewine" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike DeWine</a> (R) is sending law enforcement and millions of dollars to Springfield, Ohio, after residents&#8217; public grievances about the influx of 20,000 Haitian migrants to their community garnered national attention.
DeWine said Tuesday that state troopers will be sent to help address the growing reckless driving issue, largely sparked by the migrant influx. He&#8217;ll also be dedicating $2.5 million toward health care. Wait times for health care have significantly increased for residents due to the migrants.
&#8220;I want the people of Springfield and Clark County to know that as we move forward, we will continue to do everything we can to help the community deal with this surge of migrants,&#8221; DeWine <a href="https://governor.ohio.gov/media/news-and-media/governor-dewine-announces-healthcare-public-safety-support-for-springfield-and-clark-county" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;The federal government has not demonstrated that they have any kind of plan to deal with the issue. We will not walk away.&#8221;
&#8220;The influx of Haitians to Springfield and Clark County has significantly impacted local primary care providers due to the increased number of patients and the need for more translation services,&#8221; a press release from the governor&#8217;s office said. &#8220;In general, migrants from Haiti have had little to no healthcare services prior to arriving in the United States, including vaccinations.&#8221;
&#8220;To address the increase in dangerous driving in Springfield by inexperienced Haitian drivers and all others who disregard traffic laws, Governor DeWine directed the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) to support the Springfield Police Department with traffic enforcement,&#8221; the press release noted. &#8220;Beginning [Thursday] morning, OSHP troopers will patrol local roads with the highest crash rates and hold accountable any driver who drives erratically and risks the safety of others.&#8221;

In addition to DeWine&#8217;s action, the state&#8217;s Republican Attorney General Dave Yost directed his office to research legal avenues to stop the federal government from sending “an unlimited number of migrants to Ohio communities.&#8221;
The Biden-Harris administration in June gave 300,000 Haitians temporary legal status, which lasts until at least February 2026. This allows these migrants to remain and work in the U.S. until then, and possibly beyond. This was awarded to any Haitian in the U.S. who was here before or on June 3, and included thousands of Haitians in Springfield.
City Manager Bryan Heck said his town attracted migrants because of its affordable housing and job openings. The city was in turmoil for years, but had a turnaround when manufacturing picked up.
Numerous residents have said they witnessed “buses” of these migrants being dropped off at gas stations and laundromats.

The father of an 11-year-old boy who was killed by a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-ohio-town-overrun-by-haitian-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Haitian immigrant</a> in Springfield, Ohio, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2v8-HIvvoU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> during a city commission meeting on Tuesday that he wishes his son was instead killed by an &#8220;old white man.&#8221;
Aiden Clark was killed in August 2023, when a Haitian immigrant, Hermanio Joseph, 36, crossed over the center dividing line and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/03/us/springfield-ohio-school-bus-crash-haiti-immigrants.html">crashed</a> into a full school bus. The 11-year-old was ejected from the bus, which <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/03/us/springfield-ohio-school-bus-crash-haiti-immigrants.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">flipped over</a> and then landed on him. More than 20 children were taken to the hospital. Joseph is now facing nine years behind bars after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter. He was not licensed to drive in Ohio.
&#8220;Ya know, I wish that my son Aiden Clark was killed by a 60-year-old white man,&#8221; the boy&#8217;s father, Nathan Clark, said. &#8220;I bet you never thought anyone would ever say something so blunt. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ohio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ohio</a> Attorney General Dave Yost announced this week that he has directed officials to begin reviewing ways to stop the Biden-Harris administration from sending large numbers of migrants to communities in the state amid backlash that is brewing over tens of thousands of Haitian illegal aliens who have been brought to a small town in the state.
The move comes in response to Springfield, a town of less than 60,000 residents, being flooded with approximately 20,000 Haitian illegal aliens over the last few years, leading to a variety of problems and rapid deterioration of the town.
“This is absurd – Springfield has swollen by more than a third due to migrants,” Yost said. “How many people can they be expected to take? What are the limits to the federal government’s power? Could the federal government simply funnel into Ohio all the millions of migrants flooding in under the current administration’s watch?&#8221;
“There’s got to be a limiting principle,&#8221; he added. &#8220;We’re going to find a way to get this disaster in front of a federal judge.”
The explosion in illegal aliens coming to the town has devastated the abilities of the public and private entities in the town to provide for the U.S. citizens who live there, Yost&#8217;s office said.

“The problem is not migrants, it is way, way too many migrants in a short period of time,” Yost said. “The problem is a massive increase in the population without any communication or assistance from the federal government.”
His office noted that local residents have complained about the illegal aliens &#8220;causing car crashes, stealing property – including livestock, squatting in homes and killing wildlife for food.&#8221;
He said that the Biden-Harris administration&#8217;s wide-open border policies were devastating the state and quickly ruining the quality of life for the people who live there.
“Ohio is a great place to work and live,” Yost said. “But overwhelming our small towns with massive migrant populations without any coordination or assistance from the federal government is changing that in front of our eyes.”
At a recent city council meeting, numerous local residents have complained that the Haitians are ruining the town and that people are beginning to fear for their safety because of how dangerous they are.
&#8220;These Haitians are running into trash cans. They&#8217;re running into buildings,&#8221; one resident <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/ohio-residents-small-town-erupt-over-havoc-caused-massive-influx-20000-haitians" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;They&#8217;re flipping cars in the middle of the street, and I don&#8217;t know how, like, y&#8217;all can be comfortable with this.&#8221;
Other residents said the illegal aliens are setting up camp grounds, screaming at residents, and throwing trash on their property.
&#8220;It is so unsafe,&#8221; one resident said. &#8220;Look at me, I weigh 95 pounds. I couldn&#8217;t defend myself if I had to ‘pack up and move.'&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s killing both of us mentally,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;I don&#8217;t understand what you expect of us as citizens. … Who&#8217;s protecting me? I want out of this town. I am sorry. Please give me a reason to stay.&#8221;

Ohio’s Attorney General Responds To Haitian Migrants Overwhelming Town

In early 2018, senators from both parties met with Donald Trump inside the White House. They were there to discuss the visa lottery system, which is a program that allocates visas to people from countries with &#8220;historically low&#8221; rates of immigration to the United States.
This is one of many government programs that&#8217;s existed for decades without anyone in power asking why it exists &#8212; even though a visa lottery like this makes no sense whatsoever. The only criterion we should have when deciding who gets to enter the United States is whether admitting those people would make the United States a better country. Whether or not their country is &#8220;underrepresented&#8221; in the United States should have no bearing on whether a potential migrant is awarded a visa. As simple and obvious as this point may be, you rarely hear anyone say it. Certainly, you don&#8217;t hear presidents say it.
But in his meeting with the senators, Donald Trump pointed out the problem right away. Trump specifically wanted to know why we were awarding visas to people from Haiti, one of the poorest and most dysfunctional countries in the entire world. (Depending on who you ask, Trump used slightly more colorful language than that.)
You probably remember the outrage that followed. There was an outrage cycle that lasted more than two weeks. Haiti&#8217;s government said Trump&#8217;s comments were &#8220;abhorrent.&#8221; The United Nations human rights office <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-referred-haiti-african-countries-shithole-nations-n836946" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-referred-haiti-african-countries-shithole-nations-n836946&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1725993057955000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1V6ClX0_1_EnAnVUv88R3Z">said</a> Donald Trump had &#8220;damaged&#8221; and &#8220;disrupted&#8221; the lives of &#8220;many people.&#8221; Conan O&#8217;Brien <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/conan-shines-spotlight-haiti-trumps-inflammatory-immigration-remarks-1078606/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/conan-shines-spotlight-haiti-trumps-inflammatory-immigration-remarks-1078606/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1725993057955000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2qL5vknmJwoBOfnRo5-aMO">started</a> filming his show in Haiti, during which he repeatedly blamed Haiti&#8217;s collapse on the United States. “The Haitians have been dealt the worst hand in the Western Hemisphere,&#8221; he said, implying that we owe them housing and healthcare as a result.

But none of the outrage addressed Trump&#8217;s fundamental question. At no point did anyone in the press, or the Democrat Party, explain why we need to admit more Haitians into the United States. No one addressed Trump&#8217;s concern, which is that giving Haitians visas &#8212; simply because they come from Haiti, and for no other reason &#8212; would dramatically lower the quality of life for American citizens.
As a result, two years after the manufactured outrage over Trump&#8217;s comments, lives have indeed been &#8220;damaged&#8221; and &#8220;disrupted,&#8221; as the United Nations put it. But those lives are not in Haiti. They&#8217;re in places like Springfield, Ohio, which were overrun with Haitians overnight. That is not hysteria. It&#8217;s clearly happening. This is a report from NPR &#8212; maybe the most Democrat-aligned media outlet in existence. But even NPR can&#8217;t spin the situation in Springfield.
&#8220;Around 2020, things in this town took an unexpected turn. Thousands of Haitian migrants, fleeing violence and poverty, landed in Springfield. Locals say it felt like it happened overnight,&#8221; NPR <a href="https://www.npr.org/2024/08/12/nx-s1-5055784/immigration-vance-trump-migration-president-migrants-election-ohio#:~:text=In%20a%20presidential%20race%20where,many%20of%20them%20from%20Haiti." target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>. &#8220;On Sunday afternoons, you could suddenly hear Creole mass wafting through downtown streets. Haitian restaurants started popping up. &#8230; The town of around 60,000 has received some 15,000-20,000 migrants in the last four years, many of them from Haiti.&#8221;
I&#8217;ll say that again. A town of 60,000 people has received roughly 20,000 &#8220;migrants&#8221; in just the last four years. That&#8217;s a third of their population being added. This is a town that already had a poverty rate of more than twice the national average before the Haitians started moving in. This would be unsustainable even if Springfield were recruiting highly qualified, skilled immigrants. You can&#8217;t just massively increase your population very quickly without breaking things.

Notice how it&#8217;s pretty steady from 2012 to 2020. And then all of a sudden, the number of reported crimes surges. In fact, it more than doubles beginning in 2020, when this surge of migrants from Haiti arrives. One of those crimes was <a href="https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/guilty-verdicts-reached-in-trial-of-minivan-driver-accused-in-fatal-school-bus-crash/EGZUKHYWBNEPXGCUXRKU2TRRXI/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/guilty-verdicts-reached-in-trial-of-minivan-driver-accused-in-fatal-school-bus-crash/EGZUKHYWBNEPXGCUXRKU2TRRXI/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1725993057955000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1BNGbaNNTzax21fLeIKnrD">committed</a> last August by Hermanio Joseph, a Haitian migrant who drove his minivan into a <a href="https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/03/20/89240425-13808817-image-a-139_1725391475576.jpg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">school bus</a>, killing an 11-year-old child who was ejected from the bus.
The driver apparently had a &#8220;Mexican driver’s license and Ohio ID card, but no Ohio driver’s license.&#8221; Obviously, he shouldn&#8217;t have been in this country, much less driving on the road. But he was here. And for killing a child, he was only sentenced to about ten years in prison. These kinds of stories are now commonplace in Springfield.
Meanwhile, social services have been overwhelmed. The Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13808817/Springfield-Ohio-Haitian-immigration-population-surge.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, &#8220;At the community health clinic, Haitian patients rose from 115 to 1,500 between 2021 and 2023, overwhelming services  Rocking Horse Community Health Center chief medical officer Yamini Teegala said language barriers meant a 15-minute consult took up to 45 minutes. &#8216;We lost productivity. We had a huge burnout of staff,&#8217; she [said]. &#8230; The clinic hired six Haitian Creole translators, but its translation budget blew out from $43,000 in 2020 to $436,000, which Teegala said was unsustainable.&#8221;
Even with all this spending, Haitians are still terrorizing locals in Springfield. Here&#8217;s one woman at a city council meeting explaining that the town&#8217;s no longer safe for her to live in:

You can understand her exasperation. Springfield didn&#8217;t vote for this. It&#8217;s one of the most pro-Trump areas in the entire country. But no one can escape the consequences of mass migration. That&#8217;s the whole point of it. The Biden-Harris administration looks at this, and they see a success story. There is no outrage among the Left as communities like this are destroyed. They don&#8217;t care even as American citizens &#8212; including children &#8212; are killed.
In fact, it&#8217;s not just human beings who are being murdered as a result of this migrant surge. In Springfield, there are now reports on social media that Haitians are eating people&#8217;s cats. Residents at city council meetings are also complaining that Haitians are eating ducks on the side of the road. This is from just a week ago. Watch:

The man goes on to note that there are plenty of police in Springfield. It&#8217;s easy to get a traffic ticket. But apparently, it&#8217;s not easy to round up and deport the Haitians who are eating animals and crashing their cars into children. That&#8217;s not the government&#8217;s priority. He theorizes in that clip that maybe the government&#8217;s being paid off by somebody. That&#8217;s all he can think of.
But that doesn&#8217;t have to be the explanation. The Biden administration has a clear political motivation to import as many third-world aliens as possible because eventually, they&#8217;ll vote. And some local politicians in Springfield &#8212; which was devastated economically after the auto industry moved overseas &#8212; thought that more migrants would help the economy. And now here we are. Instead of helping the economy, the migrants are eating animals in public.
As unsettling as all of this is, you have to wonder whether this will be the thing that finally awakens people on the Left to the problem of rampant immigration. They don&#8217;t seem to care much when immigrants kill human beings. That doesn&#8217;t bother them in the slightest. But maybe they&#8217;ll care about the ducks and chickens and cats that are meeting an untimely demise. Presumably, the vegans will be rising up any day now. One wonders what the childless cat ladies will say when their cats end up in a Haitian’s crock pot — or whatever they use to cook them. After all, this isn&#8217;t just happening in Springfield, Ohio. It&#8217;s happening everywhere that illegal migrants are being imported.
That&#8217;s why there&#8217;s a similar crisis unfolding in Queens, New York, which is the borough that&#8217;s taking the brunt of the illegal migrant surge in the city. 70 of New York&#8217;s 193 taxpayer-funded migrant shelters are located in Queens, and hundreds of thousands of illegals have arrived in the city in the last two years. As councilman Robert Holden put it: &#8220;We&#8217;re getting dumped on here. How long can we sustain this? These shelters add nothing to the neighborhood. They only bring crime.&#8221;
Some of that crime involves eating animals, apparently. The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/07/us-news/animal-sacrifices-on-the-rise-in-queens-its-open-season/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, &#8220;Animal sacrifices are surging in Queens, with chickens, pigs and rats being tortured, mutilated or killed in &#8216;twisted&#8217; religious rituals in parkland surrounding Jamaica Bay &#8230; In a little over a month, at least nine wounded animals or carcasses have been discovered in the federally-managed Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach and the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Broad Channel — including five live pigs with partially severed ears. Creatures recovered from the revolting scene also include a near-dead baby rat tied up in a bag with chicken bones; a freshly-decapitated chicken head; a live hen in distress; and a dead dog with its neck snapped.&#8221;
This is being linked not to Haitians, but to &#8220;Hindu devotees who worship the goddess Kali.&#8221; Then there&#8217;s this quote, from Sloane Quealy, who runs Zion&#8217;s Mission Animal Rescue. “It’s continually getting worse. The animal sacrifices are happening more repeatedly, more times a week. The sacrificers know it’s open season.”
Yes, the &#8220;sacrificers&#8221; know it&#8217;s open season. And of course, those &#8220;sacrificers&#8221; typically have something in common, which is that they didn&#8217;t come from the United States. These episodes are yet more evidence of a simple truism: import the third world, become the third world. Culture matters. When you allow a flood of third-world people, you end up with an increasingly third-world culture. Anyone who has ever been to a third-world country knows that this is not an improvement. You get fight clubs on the streets. You get garbage all over the place and loud music playing around the clock. Watch:

He&#8217;s lived there for more than 30 years, and he&#8217;s &#8220;never seen anything like it.&#8221; But it&#8217;s happening now. Some of this may be because of the visa lottery, which allows people like this into the country illegally. A lot of it is because of asylum fraud or &#8220;temporary protected status&#8221; and so on. But the debate over whether these migrants are &#8220;illegal&#8221; or not isn&#8217;t really the main issue here.
That&#8217;s because, as hard as it may be for either party to admit, illegal immigration is not the only problem. Unchecked immigration of any kind &#8212; illegal or legal &#8212; creates the same problems in this country. We do not erase the downside of importing many thousands of Haitians every year just by importing them &#8220;legally.&#8221; The immigrants that are reportedly conducting blood sacrifices on the streets do not suddenly become acceptable because we give them a visa. The key point is that we do not want America to be like these places. We don&#8217;t want America to become like Haiti or any third-world country. Whether it becomes like Haiti or any similar place illegally or legally is basically irrelevant. If places like Springfield and Queens are ever going to become habitable again, the people running the government have to admit that. And then they have no choice but to get these people out of the country as quickly as possible.

The Biden administration issued an order on Friday that prevents thousands of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illegal immigrants</a> from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/haiti" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Haiti</a> from being deported. 
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the move was over humanitarian concerns related to ongoing conflicts in their homeland. Around 200,000 Haitians, many of whom entered the U.S. unlawfully, were already shielded from deportation with Temporary Protected Status, which has been extended by 18 months. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the order extends protections to cover approximately 309,000 more Haitians. The deportation prevention order applies to Haitians in the country on or before June 3, 2024. 
“We are providing this humanitarian relief to Haitians already present in the United States given the conditions that existed in their home country as of June 3, 2024,” Mayorkas <a href="https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/news-releases/secretary-mayorkas-announces-extension-and-redesignation-of-haiti-for-temporary-protected-status#:~:text=“We%20are%20providing%20this%20humanitarian,our%20obligation%20to%20fulfill%20it.”" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “In doing so, we are realizing the core objective of the TPS law and our obligation to fulfill it.”
A press release from the Department of Homeland Security said that Mayorkas determined the extension “is warranted because conditions that support Haiti’s designation are ongoing and that doing so was not contrary to the national interest of the United States.”
“Several regions in Haiti continue to face violence or insecurity, and many have limited access to safety, health care, food, and water,” DHS added. “Haiti is particularly prone to flooding and mudslides, and often experiences significant damage due to storms, flooding, and earthquakes.”

Haiti has been plagued in recent years with violence, with political leaders and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/american-missionary-couple-killed-by-haitian-gangs-were-full-of-love-and-devotion-to-the-people-of-haiti-family-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">missionaries</a> being brutally killed.  In March, a team of Marines was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elite-marine-team-deployed-to-protect-u-s-embassy-in-haiti-as-country-descends-into-chaos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dispatched</a> to protect the American embassy in Haiti during an outbreak of gang violence in Port-au-Prince. 
The Biden administration has frequently used TPS to block illegal immigrants from being deported. Last year, it issued an order <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-to-allow-hundreds-of-thousands-of-illegal-immigrants-to-stay-and-work-in-u-s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allowing</a> hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from Venezuela to stay and work in the U.S. Nearly half a million Venezuelans are estimated to be in the United States under the program. 
The Biden administration’s order comes as Republicans have pressured the president and Mayorkas to secure the southern border amid a record influx of illegal immigrants under their watch.

Davy and Natalie Lloyd, the young missionary couple who were serving in Haiti when they were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/missionary-couple-daughter-and-son-in-law-of-mo-state-rep-killed-by-gangs-in-haiti" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed by Haitian gangs</a> on Thursday, had a heart for the people of Haiti and &#8220;reached countless lives in so many ways,&#8221; according to Missouri Republican state Rep. Ben Baker, who is Natalie&#8217;s father.
Davy, Natalie, and Jude Montis, the local director of Missions in Haiti Inc., were ambushed by a gang while they were leaving a youth church activity in northern Port-au-Prince. The three missionaries took cover in a house but the gang found them and started shooting at the house, Davy&#8217;s sister Hannah Cornett <a href="https://apnews.com/article/things-to-know-missionaries-killed-haiti-d3e5e74d47d7b85453b432277abcbe21" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the Associated Press. Missions in Haiti, Inc. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064274396167&amp;fref=nf&amp;ref=embed_post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on Facebook that &#8220;Davy was taken to the house tied up and beat&#8221; before a different gang showed up and appeared to exchange gunfire.
Davy, Natalie, and Jude were all fatally shot at 9:00 p.m. local time, the missions organization later posted.
&#8220;They loved Haiti and loved its people dearly and ultimately gave everything for them. Davy and Natalie reached countless lives in so many ways and we want them to be remembered for who they were, selfless and full of love and devotion to the people of Haiti,&#8221; Baker said, according to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/american-missionaries-killed-haitian-gang-gave-everything-people-there-family" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>.
The Missouri state representative had posted the news of the attack on his daughter and son-in-law on Facebook early Thursday morning.
&#8220;My heart is broken in a thousand pieces. I’ve never felt this kind of pain,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ben.r.baker/posts/10228088956904212?ref=embed_post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>. &#8220;Most of you know my daughter and son-in-law Davy and Natalie Lloyd are full time missionaries in Haiti. They were attacked by gangs this evening and were both killed. They went to Heaven together. Please pray for my family we desperately need strength. And please pray for the Lloyd family as well. I have no other words for now.&#8221;
Davy&#8217;s parents, David and Alicia Lloyd of Oklahoma, founded Missions in Haiti, Inc. in 2000 and are full-time missionaries in the Caribbean country. Davy grew up in Haiti with his family, Cornett told the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/things-to-know-missionaries-killed-haiti-d3e5e74d47d7b85453b432277abcbe21" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AP</a>. Davy then went to Bible college in the U.S., where he met Natalie. The couple married in June 2022 before moving to Haiti. Jude Montis had worked for the Lloyd&#8217;s missions organization in Haiti for 20 years, according to Cornett.

Missouri Republican state Rep. Ben Baker&#8217;s daughter and son-in-law, who serve as missionaries in Haiti, were attacked and killed by gangs in the country on Thursday night.
Baker posted the news of Davy and Natalie Lloyd&#8217;s deaths on Facebook, saying he&#8217;s &#8220;never felt this kind of pain.&#8221; Missions in Haiti, Inc., which was <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/05/24/us-news/missouri-rep-ben-baker-daughter-and-son-in-law-killed-in-haiti/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">founded</a> by Davy&#8217;s parents in 2000, confirmed the tragedy, according to <a href="https://www.fox23.com/news/2-local-missionaries-killed-in-haiti-after-ongoing-gang-violence/article_d2b8cef2-19cb-11ef-aaeb-abb94445b274.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox 23</a>.

Missions in Haiti, Inc. said that Davy and Natalee were ambushed by a gang of men in three trucks while they were leaving a youth church service.
&#8220;Davy was taken to the house tied up and beat. The gang then took our trucks and loaded everything up they wanted and left,&#8221; the missions group said.
The couple was in the house with another person, named Jude, when other gangs arrived and started shooting at the house, according to Missions in Haiti, Inc.
&#8220;I have been trying all my contacts to get a police armored car there to evacuate them out to safety but can&#8217;t get anyone to do,&#8221; the missions group&#8217;s post added. &#8220;I also am trying to negotiate with the gang so how much $ to stand down and let them leave and get to safety.&#8221;

&#8220;We all are devastated,&#8221; the group wrote.
Missouri Republican Governor Mike Parson <a href="https://x.com/GovParsonMO/status/1794013308703371755" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on Friday morning, &#8220;Absolutely heartbreaking news. Florida Senator Marco Rubio <a href="https://www.realclearworld.com/articles/2024/04/18/president_biden_must_not_encourage_illegal_mass_migration_from_haiti_1025892.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned President Biden</a> not to accept mass migration from Haiti, saying, “the job of elected officials is to protect their citizens first, not anyone else’s.”
Rubio is intent on helping the Haitian people. After the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Congress passed the Haitian Economic Lift Program (HELP) Act to help rebuild Haiti’s domestic industry, but it expires in 2025. Last year, Rubio reintroduced the Act, saying, “It is in our national interest to help Haiti as it faces unimaginable hardships as a result of political corruption, natural disasters, and rampant crime. The HELP Act is an important bipartisan measure that will extend trade benefits and boost the country’s largest industry.”
In mid-March, Rubio and fellow Florida GOP Senator Rick Scott <a href="https://www.rubio.senate.gov/rubio-scott-to-biden-help-floridians-prepare-for-a-mass-migration-from-haiti/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> President Biden, “Floridians and the rest of the American public will not tolerate your administration again opening the floodgates for countless, unvetted foreign nationals to stream into our country, putting our national security at grave risk and creating untold public safety threats for our communities. We must consider this danger due to the numerous reports of gangs committing jailbreaks in Haiti and releasing thousands of dangerous criminals.”
In his column discussing Haitian mass migration, Rubio noted that the Biden administration is pushing the Dominican Republic to accept three million Haitians fleeing their ravaged country.
“This is unfair to the D.R., which is a developing nation with limited resources, and which is already bearing significant burdens on Haiti’s behalf,” Rubio wrote. “Anyone who doubts this should consider the fact that <a href="https://cdn.com.do/nacionales/legisladores-responden-amnistia-35-partos-en-rd-es-a-haitianas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more than a third</a> of all births in the D.R. are currently to Haitian citizens.”
Then he addressed the possibility of mass migration from Haiti to the U.S.: “But encouraging illegal mass migration is also unfair to our country. The Biden Administration seems unaware that many Haitians view the D.R. as a stepping stone to Puerto Rico—and that a well-established smuggling ring to facilitate that journey already exists. Because our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico have their own fiscal constraints, illegal migrants that reach the U.S. territory would likely move on to the continental United States.”
“Like most Americans, I recognize that what is happening in Haiti is horrible and tragic,” Rubio continued. “The breakdown of law and order, the <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/dominican-republic-ramps-up-border-security-haiti-crisis-shows-new-border-wall" target="_blank" rel="noopener">displacement</a> of more than 300,000 people, and the need of roughly five million for some form of aid—all of these are matters of grave concern. This is why I support the international peacekeeping mission that Kenya proposes to lead once Haiti has established a provisional government. In addition, I have <a href="https://www.rubio.senate.gov/rubio-leads-bipartisan-measure-to-extend-economic-support-for-haiti/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reintroduced</a> legislation to preserve U.S. trade benefits for Haitian manufacturers, which could prove a lifeline to legitimate Haitian businesses in this time of crisis.”

“But, like most Americans, I also recognize that no country should experience illegal mass migration—not the D.R., and not the United States. Illegal mass migration does no good for the nation people are migrating from,” he stated. “When all able-bodied, law-abiding citizens leave their homeland, there is no one left to defend it from criminals and tyrants—and no one left to provide for the vulnerable who remain there. On Tuesday, House Republicans demanded the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/state-department" target="_blank" rel="noopener">State Department</a> offer an explanation for the &#8220;trend&#8221; of U.S. embassy closures and staff evacuations during the past few years of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/biden-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biden administration</a>.
Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) sent a letter to Secretary of State <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/antony-blinken" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Antony Blinken</a> requesting a briefing on how the United States can meet its foreign policy objectives with a &#8220;diminished diplomatic presence&#8221; in &#8220;high-threat&#8221; countries.
The chairman noted the State Department has been &#8220;forced to reduce or suspend operations at several posts across the globe since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, including in Burma, Afghanistan, Belarus, Russia, Sudan, and Niger.&#8221;

Comer also listed Haiti, where an elite Marine team was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elite-marine-team-deployed-to-protect-u-s-embassy-in-haiti-as-country-descends-into-chaos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">deployed</a> to protect the U.S. Embassy in the capital of Port-au-Prince after the military <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-military-evacuates-embassy-staff-in-haiti-as-yet-another-country-erupts-in-turmoil-under-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">evacuated</a> non-essential personnel as the country descended into chaos.
&#8220;Now, the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti recently began evacuating some personnel and enhancing security given deteriorating conditions and gang violence close to the compound,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;These closures and service reductions are leading to a diminished U.S. diplomatic presence abroad,&#8221; Comer said. &#8220;Closures and reduced service status have serious implications for U.S. citizens residing in those countries, as well as foreign nationals who must travel elsewhere to access consular services.&#8221;
Comer said his committee is &#8220;also concerned about the repeated necessity of withdrawing U.S. personnel, and whether deteriorating conditions in those countries are the result, even in part, of failed U.S. foreign policy.&#8221;

The chairman said his panel is requesting a briefing from the State Department &#8220;on this trend&#8221; by April 2.
&#8220;Briefers should specifically be prepared to identify and discuss all embassies or consulate posts experiencing closures or reduced services, other high-threat posts not currently in closure or reduced status, actions being taken to secure embassy personnel and assets at these high-threat posts, contingency plans to respond in emergency situations, an assessment of why this trend has occurred, and an assessment of whether this trend will continue,&#8221; Comer said.
&#8220;Briefers should also be prepared to discuss the impact of closures or reduced service status on national security, the administration and oversight of U.S. foreign assistance, and the Department’s ongoing ability to effectuate U.S. interests abroad,&#8221; he added.
The Daily Wire reached out to the State Department seeking comment.
In response, an agency spokesperson said the department does not comment on congressional correspondence as a &#8220;general matter.&#8221;

More U.S. embassies have been forced to evacuate under President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> than any other president in U.S. history, according to a new analysis.
The news comes after the Biden administration was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-military-evacuates-embassy-staff-in-haiti-as-yet-another-country-erupts-in-turmoil-under-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">forced</a> to send in the military to evacuate the U.S. embassy in Haiti last week as the after gangs freed thousands of violent criminals from prison in the country&#8217;s capital, pushing the country to the brink of total collapse.
An analysis from The Daily Signal found that a total of 11 embassies have been evacuated under Biden, more than any other president in U.S. history.
