A 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday in connection with a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/multiple-people-shot-at-virginia-state-university">shooting that wounded five people</a> at Virginia State University after authorities found him hiding inside a campus dormitory closet, police said.
Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, was found hiding in a closet inside Seward Hall at approximately 4 p.m., more than 14 hours after the shooting erupted near university residence halls early Saturday morning, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/virginia-state-university-shooting-campus-lockdown-783d5190d7fe0818fc27a98123311dc3">according</a> to the Associated Press. Harris is not a student at Virginia State University.

Police obtained eight felony warrants for Harris: four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was taken to the Chesterfield County Jail and is being held without bond. Authorities said additional charges may be filed, <a href="https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/chesterfield-county/henrico-teen-camron-harris-arrested-vsu-shooting-aug-15-2026">according</a> to WTVR.
The shooting occurred at approximately 1:28 a.m. Saturday near the university&#8217;s residence halls. Officers responding to the scene found five people suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, a 21-year-old man who is not a VSU student, remains in critical condition. The other four victims, ranging in age from 17 to 23, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Only one — a 20-year-old who has since been released from the hospital — is a VSU student.
The university initially warned that the shooting involved &#8220;multiple suspects,&#8221; and the campus was placed on lockdown as police searched for those responsible. The lockdown was later lifted after authorities determined there was no immediate threat to the university community. Police said Sunday that they were still seeking additional people who fired weapons and were working to determine whether they had acted in self-defense or were among the aggressors, the AP <a href="https://apnews.com/article/virginia-state-university-shooting-investigation-b764bc5499e57be36d798002ab3544ff">reported</a>.
Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Police have not announced a motive for the shooting. Virginia State University, a historically black public university located in Ettrick, Virginia, has approximately 5,700 students. The shooting occurred two days before fall classes were scheduled to begin Monday. Continuing students were returning to campus Friday as incoming students concluded orientation activities.
The university&#8217;s &#8220;New Trojans Experience&#8221; for incoming students concluded Friday and included remarks from former NFL quarterback Cam Newton. The shooting also follows several previous incidents of gun violence on or near the Virginia State campus. The university experienced multiple lockdowns related to gunfire in 2024. In 2025, one person was shot near a campus basketball court, while another man was killed in a parking lot near the university, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2026/08/15/five-people-shot-virginia-state-university/">according</a> to The Washington Post.

Luigi Mangione’s high-profile murder trial will proceed with an anonymous jury and expanded courtroom access after a judge finalized several key details Tuesday ahead of the September trial.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Gregory Carro ruled that the identities of jurors will be kept from the public during the trial, which is scheduled to begin September 8 and is expected to last roughly six weeks. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/luigi-mangione">Mangione</a>, 28, has pleaded not guilty to eight state charges, including second-degree murder, in the December 4, 2024, shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
The anonymous jury comes as prosecutors warn that Mangione’s sizable and highly vocal supporter base could pressure witnesses and potential jurors. “The media attention surrounding this case — and the efforts of some of the defendant’s supporters both to intimidate witnesses and to interfere with the functioning of the jury — will place extraordinary pressure on witnesses and potential jurors alike,” Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joel Seidemann wrote in a Monday letter to Carro obtained by <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/prosecutors-warn-luigi-mangione-supporters-may-intimidate-witnesses-jurors-murder-trial">Fox News</a>.
Prosecutors had asked the court to limit access to the proceedings and raised concerns that supporters could secretly record proceedings in an overflow room and distribute the footage. Carro nevertheless ordered that an overflow room be made available for members of the media and the public, after Mangione’s attorneys argued that limiting courtroom access would unfairly restrict coverage of the case.
The judge also warned that anyone who takes out a cellphone in either the courtroom or the overflow room will be removed. The decision represents a compromise between the defense’s desire for broad public access and prosecutors’ concerns about security and witness intimidation.
The defense previously requested that the trial be televised, although New York law generally does not permit cameras in the courtroom. Jury selection will also begin September 8, with Carro ordering the prosecution and defense to work together on a questionnaire designed to identify potential jurors who may have biases that could affect their ability to serve.
That process is expected to be particularly contentious given the circumstances surrounding Thompson’s killing and the public reaction to Mangione.
Prosecutors allege Mangione targeted Thompson because of his animus toward the health insurance industry. They say he tracked Thompson’s movements before he allegedly shot him from behind as the executive walked toward the New York Hilton Midtown, where UnitedHealthcare was holding an investor conference. Three family members are facing charges in New York City for attempting to carry out a gang-related hit outside the Bronx Criminal Court in late June.
Reputed &#8220;Slutty Gang&#8221; member Chase Lackard, 20, was charged in the attempted hit of a member of rival gang P. Laafay. His mother, 49-year-old former Mount Vernon Deputy Police Commissioner Jennifer Lackard, was arrested with him on Tuesday and charged as an accomplice. His father, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/06/us-news/ex-con-husband-of-ny-police-bigwig-in-custody-after-familys-drive-by-gang-shooting/">James Lackard</a>, 47 — an ex-con who did time on drug charges — turned himself in on Thursday.
According to a series of <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/04/us-news/ny-police-bigwig-was-getaway-driver-for-goon-son-in-gangland-shooting-sources/">reports</a> published by The New York Post, both Jennifer and James helped their gang-banging son to plan and then carry out the attempted hit on June 29. After dropping mother and son off at the criminal court building, James drove around the area and returned to pick them up.
Text messages from that timeframe showed Jennifer helping Chase work out how to carry out the next part of their plan.
&#8220;Be directly in Fromt (sic) When I Leave,&#8221; Chase told his mother in a text message.
&#8220;When? … You can’t just sit directly outside. It has to be timed right,&#8221; she said in response.
When they left the building, according to court documents, Chase got into the back seat and his mother rode in the passenger seat. They circled the block, and when Chase spotted his intended target, he reportedly fired several shots from the vehicle but missed. The family then drove away from the area, stopping a short distance away so that the parents could switch seats and Chase could change clothes in the car.
Both Chase and his mother were arrested at their home on Tuesday — after which Jennifer Lackard was immediately <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/04/us-news/new-york-police-bigwig-accused-of-driving-getaway-car-for-her-son-fired/">fired from her job</a> with the police department: &#8220;Effective immediately, the City of Mount Vernon has terminated Jennifer Lackard’s employment. The allegations are unrelated to her duties with the Mount Vernon Police Department and do not stem from any conduct associated with the Department or the performance of her official responsibilities.&#8221;
Lackard, prior to her termination, had been a boss within the Wellness Unit since 2022 and had advocated for her precinct to respond to mental health issues without resorting to traditional policing methods: &#8220;A lot of the people we encounter are in a mental health crisis. Some are combatant, some are really, really aggressive and some are not. And some are frequent fliers because they don’t have support.&#8221;
Damon Jones, who previously worked for three decades at the Westchester County Department of Corrections and now publishes Black Westchester Magazine, was incensed.
“This is f*cking embarrassing! I am embarrassed as a black law enforcement officer to see the dysfunction in a city that has a black mayor, a majority of black city council, a majority black police department that we have to see continuing dysfunction and just foolery in an organization that should be so professional,&#8221; he told The Post.

Authorities have identified the gunman who killed three people during Saturday&#8217;s shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, and investigators are still working to determine what motivated the attack.
Twin Falls Police on Sunday identified the lone suspect as 24-year-old Chad Williams, who authorities say took his own life after opening fire at the newly-opened restaurant. Police said three people were killed and seven others were wounded in the shooting, which erupted on Saturday around 2:30 p.m. local time at the In-N-Out location that had opened just over a week ago.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said Sunday that two of the wounded victims have since been treated and released from the hospital, while two remain in critical condition and three others are listed in stable condition. Hicks cautioned that those figures remain preliminary as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the three people killed because family notifications are still being completed.
In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder confirmed that one of the victims was an employee. &#8220;She was taking care of our most important asset — our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn&#8217;t value the lives of others or his own,&#8221; Snyder said in a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Dbhsx8XOGOk/?hl=en">statement</a>. She added that the shooter fired both on and off company property before ending his own life.
Police said the investigation remains active, with detectives continuing to interview what Chief Hicks described as hundreds of potential witnesses. The FBI is assisting local authorities.

A heroic bystander jumped into the fray on Saturday, shooting back when someone opened fire in the drive-thru at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho.
In video that circulated after the shooting, the gunman was walking in the drive-thru firing at cars as he approached the window. Within a few seconds, a second gun could be heard engaging the shooter, who quickly ran for cover in some nearby bushes.

According to witness Lane Koehn, the hero bystander had identified himself as a former paramedic — and had given In-N-Out employees and other customers valuable time to escape by engaging the suspect and keeping him distracted. Koehn had been at a nearby stoplight when he saw the shooter walking toward cars in the drive-thru, and saw the second man pull out a handgun and shoot back.
Koehn, 34, told reporters that he&#8217;d seen one In-N-Out employee being dragged away from the scene, saying that he&#8217;d joined the armed citizen in waiting with the injured employee until first responders arrived.
&#8220;She was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it,&#8221; he told KPTV FOX 12.
&#8220;People were running out crying and screaming. It was very scary,” Haley Dodaro said in a text message to The Associated Press. She and her mother had been in the drive-thru line when people began running from the restaurant.
The In-N-Out restaurant had only opened one week earlier, on July 24, as the chain only recently expanded into Idaho.
In total, three were killed in the shooting — including one employee — and several more were injured. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder issued a statement following the tragedy.

The video appears to show someone else opening the door, allowing the former student into the building. The suspect then walks into the lobby, briefly hiding behind a vending machine before stepping into view. Just as he approached an office door, the door opened, and Moore barreled toward him.

Moore ducked his head and shoulders as he ran, hitting the suspect in the chest with his full weight and tackling him onto a nearby bench, pinning him there. Moore was shot in the leg at some point during the scuffle.
Another man, identified later as Moore&#8217;s assistant principal, ran out of the same office seconds later. Assessing the situation, he quickly knocked the handgun away from the suspect, then picked it up and secured it inside the office.
The two men restrain the suspect — identified as former student Victor Lee Hawkins, 20, until law enforcement arrives and takes him into custody.
Moore released a lengthy statement after the shooting, thanking local law enforcement and first responders for their support and the community for their prayers and well-wishes.

The world reeled on Sunday with news of one deadly shooting at Rhode Island&#8217;s Brown University and another at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia — and somehow, Democrats tied both to President Donald Trump and American firearm policies.
For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
The two attacks, based on multiple reports, could not be more different aside from the method used to carry them out.
At Brown University, a masked gunman barged into a classroom where students were reviewing for an economics exam and opened fire, killing two and wounding several others. Initial reports stated that the suspect &#8220;shouted something&#8221; but it was not clear what. The suspect fled the scene, but local authorities and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fbis-patel-promises-all-out-24-7-campaign-to-deliver-justice-after-brown-university-shooting">FBI Director Kash Patel</a> announced that a &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/officials-detain-person-of-interest-in-deadly-brown-university-shooting">person of interest</a>&#8221; was apprehended within a matter of hours.
On the other side of the world, in Australia, at least two suspects opened fire on a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney&#8217;s Bondi Beach. They killed at least 15 and wounded others. One of the shooters was briefly interrupted when a civilian charged him, wrestled his firearm away, and then held him at gunpoint. He eventually was able to run to where he&#8217;d stashed another firearm, and immediately started shooting again.
In an interview with Ali Velshi that aired on MS NOW (formerly MSNBC), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) addressed both shootings.

&#8220;This is yet another bad day for America,&#8221; Velshi prompted.
&#8220;Yeah, we are still recovering from the shooting at Annunciation church,&#8221; Omar began, referencing a school shooting that had taken place just weeks earlier in her home state. &#8220;It is a tragedy that this has become a normal occurrence, not just in the United States but now seeing it in Australia who&#8217;s worked really hard to create gun prevention laws to prevent the kind of tragedy that took place today.&#8221;
Omar made no mention of the fact that the shooting in Australia had taken place in spite of that nation enacting the kind of restrictive gun laws that she and others within the Democratic Party would be only too happy to foist on the American people. She also gave no attention to the obvious motive in the Bondi Beach shooting, in which Australian Jews were targeted while celebrating Hanukkah together.
On CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; Senator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senate-dem-wastes-no-time-blames-brown-shooting-on-donald-trump">Chris Murphy</a> (D-CT) laid the blame for the Brown University shooting at President Trump&#8217;s feet, claiming that he&#8217;d been engaging in an active &#8220;campaign&#8221; to promote more and more violence.

&#8220;It’s not shocking, because over the last year, President Trump has been engaged in a dizzying campaign to increase violence in this country,” Murphy began, clearly insinuating that the Trump administration was encouraging violence.
“He’s restoring gun rights to felons and to people who have lost their ability to buy guns, he eliminated the White House Office of Gun Violence Protection, and he has stopped funding mental health grants and community anti-gun violence grants that Republicans and Democrats supported in that 2022 bill,” Murphy continued.
“He has been engaged in a pretty deliberate campaign to try to make violence more likely, and I think you’re unfortunately going to see the results of that on the streets of America,&#8221; he said.
Murphy was referencing a rule proposed by Trump&#8217;s Justice Department in July – a rule that would allow certain people with criminal records to have their Second Amendment rights restored, but only after they were evaluated to ensure that they did not actually pose a risk to others.
CNN anchor Dana Bash pressed Murphy on that assertion, saying, “That’s a pretty big statement, he’s in a campaign to make violence more likely?”
&#8220;Of course! I mean, he’s knowingly restoring gun rights to dangerous people. He is cutting off grants that have bipartisan support to try to interrupt violence in our cities, or to try to get necessary mental health resources to families and children in need,” Murphy claimed. “The evidence tells you that when you stop funding mental health, when you stop funding community anti-gun violence programs, when you give gun rights back to dangerous people, you are going to have increase in violence. That is knowable and that is foreseeable.&#8221;
On NBC&#8217;s &#8220;Meet the Press,&#8221; Senator Raphael Warnock — who also supports restrictive gun laws — weighed in on the Brown University shooting and suggested that it had occurred because legislators had not done enough to limit access to firearms.

Just hours earlier, Warnock made a similar comment in a post on X, saying, &#8220;Saddened by the tragic news of the shooting at Brown University. May God give peace to the parents and families of the victims, strength and courage to our country to do all we can to stem the awful scourge of gun violence.&#8221;

A GoFundMe for a man who fought back against one of the Bondi Beach shooters has raised over $250,000 in a matter of hours.
The hero of Bondi Beach, identified as 43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed, is hospitalized with two gunshot wounds, one to the hand and the other to his arm, according to the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce3wkey5p33o">BBC</a>. Ahmed, a fruit shop owner and father of two, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-civilian-ambushes-terrorist-at-bondi-beach-wrestles-rifle-away">ambushed</a> one of the attackers, disarmed the shooter, and held him at gunpoint.
“After witnessing the extraordinary actions of the hero who helped disarm one of the attackers during the Bondi tragedy, an act that prevented the loss of countless more lives, we felt compelled to act,” says a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/zbcjn-support-the-hero-who-disarmed-a-bondi-attacker?ts=1765751457&amp;utm_campaign=pd_ss_icons&amp;utm_medium=customer&amp;utm_source=copy_link">GoFundMe</a> post created by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DSP-vTak-2x/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==">Car Hub Australia</a>, a car club.
“In a moment of chaos and danger, he stepped forward without hesitation. His actions were selfless, instinctive, and undeniably heroic, taken without regard for his own safety,” the description continues.
By Sunday evening Central Time, the fundraiser had raised over $250,000, propelled by an initial $50,000 donation from Car Hub Australia. The goal for the fundraiser was initially set at just $35,000, but by Sunday evening it had been raised to $300,000 as donations quickly outpaced the target amount.
The Bondi Beach attack in Sydney, Australia, targeted a Hanukkah celebration attended by thousands of Jews, including families with young children. The attacks killed at least 15 people and wounded dozens of others.
Video from the terror attack on Bondi Beach showed Ahmed’s heroic actions. President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/saved-a-lot-of-lives-trump-praises-man-who-confronted-gunman-during-australia-attack">praised</a> the 43-year-old in comments during a White House Christmas reception.
“In Australia, you probably read … a very, very brave person, actually, who went and attacked frontally one of the shooters and saved a lot of lives … very brave person who’s right now in the hospital. Pretty seriously wounded. So, I have great respect to that man that did that,” said Trump.
A cousin of Ahmed said that he was hospitalized and in need of an operation, but that the doctor has said that he “is okay,” according to the BBC.
“We hope he is OK, he is a hero, 100% he is a hero. He has two shots, one in his arm and one in his hand, he has had to have an operation,” the cousin said.

Fundraiser For Wounded Bondi Beach Hero Raises Big Haul Hours After Terror Attack

Officials announced in the early Sunday morning hours that a &#8220;person of interest&#8221; had been detained in the deadly shooting that took place less than one day earlier at Brown University.
Colonel Oscar Perez, Providence Police Department Chief, did not reveal many details about the &#8220;person of interest,&#8221; but The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/12/14/us/brown-shooting?smid=nytcore-ios-share">reported</a> that the university lifted the standing &#8220;shelter in place&#8221; order around the same time.
&#8220;We are able to report that we have detained a person of interest involved in yesterday&#8217;s shooting,&#8221; Providence Mayor Brett Smiley <a href="https://x.com/FoxNews/status/2000182730550558949">announced</a> in an early morning press conference on Sunday. &#8220;Colonel Perez will speak in a minute about that update. Second, I want to let the Providence community know that effective immediately, we are lifting the shelter in place for Brown and the related area.&#8221;
&#8220;The people of Providence should breathe a little easier this morning,&#8221; he said.
Perez followed up by confirming that the person who was detained was &#8220;in their 30s,&#8221; and said that officials were not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the attack.
The attack took place during an exam review session for an economics class, when a masked gunman burst into the classroom and opened fire.
Brown University President Christina Paxson took some heat on Saturday for not knowing — a full six hours after the shooting occurred — what had been taking place in the classroom when the shooter burst in.

Paxson revealed that she&#8217;d been in Washington, D.C., when the shooting took place, and had jumped on a flight immediately when the news broke.
&#8220;I&#8217;m just catching up,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;President, with all due respect, SIX HOURS after the shooting, you don’t know what was going on in that classroom? How does that happen? Were they taking an exam? Were they meeting for a club?&#8221;
&#8220;I don’t know,&#8221; Paxson replied.
&#8220;Six hours later. You’re the president. You don’t know?&#8221; the reporter seemed incredulous.
&#8220;I do not know,&#8221; Paxson repeated.
&#8220;That’s kind of concerning,&#8221; the reporter observed.
Since the shooting took place, officials at Brown University have canceled all final exams. Instead, they advised students to go home and take care of themselves. &#8220;For the moment, we encourage everyone to focus on their own safety and well-being,&#8221; the provost announced.
