President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States does not need NATO&#8217;s help in its war with Iran, after most alliance members declined to join the military operation.
“The United States has been informed by most of our NATO ‘Allies’ that they don’t want to get involved with our Military Operation against the Terrorist Regime of Iran, in the Middle East, this, despite the fact that almost every Country strongly agreed with what we are doing, and that Iran cannot, in any way, shape, or form, be allowed to have a Nuclear Weapon,” Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116245182325726375">wrote</a> on Truth Social. 
Trump’s post comes <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-warns-natos-future-could-be-very-bad-if-allies-refuse-to-help-secure-strait-of-hormuz?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=4&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Warns+NATO%E2%80%99s+Future+Could+Be+%E2%80%98Very+Bad%E2%80%99+If+Allies+Refuse+To+Help+Secure+Strait+Of+Hormuz">after</a> he called for international assistance securing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route through which roughly one-fifth of the world&#8217;s oil supply passes. He warned on Sunday that NATO would face a “very bad” future if it did not help open the strait. 
“I am not surprised by their action, however, because I always considered NATO, where we spend Hundreds of Billions of Dollars per year protecting these same Countries, to be a one way street — We will protect them, but they will do nothing for us, in particular, in a time of need,” Trump said. 
Despite the lack of support, Trump said that the United States is no longer seeking NATO assistance, saying the United States had already “decimated” Iran’s military, including its navy and air force. 
“Because of the fact that we have had such Military Success, we no longer ‘need,’ or desire, the NATO Countries’ assistance — WE NEVER DID! Likewise, Japan, Australia, or South Korea,” Trump said. “In fact, speaking as President of the United States of America, by far the Most Powerful Country Anywhere in the World, WE DO NOT NEED THE HELP OF ANYONE!”
As Iranian officials have pledged to keep the Strait of Hormuz closed, Trump said Sunday that he was asking other countries, including China, for help “policing” the strait. 
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas <a href="https://abcnews.com/Business/wireStory/eu-weighs-action-strait-hormuz-open-131109449">said</a> Monday the bloc is “discussing” potential actions, noting it is in Europe’s interest to keep the strait open.
Oil prices have surged since the start of Operation Epic Fury on February 28. Brent crude rose above $100 per barrel on Tuesday, while the <a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com/">national average</a> for gasoline reached $3.79 a gallon, up from $2.91 a month ago. 
Trump has said that destroying Iran’s nuclear program would justify higher energy prices.

President Donald Trump warned Sunday that NATO&#8217;s future could be at risk if the alliance does not help the United States secure the Strait of Hormuz. 
The comment came as Trump said that he had started reaching out to other countries for help keeping the strait safe from Iranian attacks. Iran has vowed to keep the strait, through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil passes, closed while the war continues. 
“It’s only appropriate that people who are the beneficiaries of the strait will help to make sure that nothing bad happens there,” Trump <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/1ca6d121-760b-4ec5-b6ad-514fdaa94873">told</a> the Financial Times. “If there’s no response or if it’s a negative response I think it will be very bad for the future of NATO.”
Trump echoed those sentiments while flying back to Washington, D.C., on Sunday evening. 
“We are talking to other countries about working with us on the policing of the strait and I think we&#8217;re getting a good response. If we do, that&#8217;s great. And if we don&#8217;t, that&#8217;s great, too,” Trump <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLKD2ulnBF4">told</a> reporters. 
He added that he would like to see NATO step in because of the funding the United States has provided for Ukraine. 
“We&#8217;re always there for NATO. We&#8217;re helping them win Ukraine,” Trump said. “Doesn’t affect us, but we&#8217;ve helped them. It’ll be interesting to see what country wouldn&#8217;t help us with a very small endeavor, which is just keeping the strait open.”
Trump said asking NATO to step in was “small” by comparison because Iran &#8220;has very little firepower left.”
“Really I&#8217;m demanding that these countries come in and protect their own territory because it is their territory. It&#8217;s the place from which they get their energy and they should come and they should help us protect it,” Trump said. 
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas <a href="https://abcnews.com/Business/wireStory/eu-weighs-action-strait-hormuz-open-131109449">said</a> Monday the bloc was “discussing” what it could do regarding the strait because it was in Europe&#8217;s interest to keep it open. 
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Monday that he was looking to assist “a viable collective plan” to reopen the strait. He said that the United Kingdom would “not be drawn into the wider war.”
Iran again vowed Monday to keep the strait closed. 
“The Strait of Hormuz will not be open to any country intending to harm Iran,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said. “The armed forces are controlling the transit, and no country will be able to use the Strait of Hormuz to strike against Iran.”
Trump also said he would like to see China get involved and take a role in securing the strait. He noted that China gets roughly 90% of its oil through the strait. Trump is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this month. 
Global benchmark Brent crude oil rose above $100 per barrel on Monday morning, climbing as high as $106.27. Gas prices across the United States have also risen, with the <a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com">national average</a> increasing to $3.71 per gallon from $2.92 a month ago.

President Donald Trump said that destroying Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities was worth the price of increasing oil prices. 
Trump made the comments after the price of global benchmark Brent crude oil <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/oil-prices-jump-as-iran-celebrates-attacks-on-oil-tankers?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Oil+Prices+Jump+As+Iran+Celebrates+Attacks+On+Oil+Tankers">surpassed</a> $100 per barrel for the second time this week on Thursday morning. The president said increasing prices would generate more revenue for the United States. 
“The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is [stopping] an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons, and destroying the Middle East and, indeed, the World. I won’t ever let that happen!”
The Pentagon echoed the president&#8217;s statement and said the focus of the Iran operation is destroying its ability to develop nuclear weapons for the long term. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Iran was developing a conventional shield system to protect its nuclear capabilities. 
While the war continues, Trump said that he would release 172 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. He said Wednesday night that the reserve would be quickly refilled when possible. 
The Trump administration is also considering waiving the Jones Act, a federal law that requires goods transported between U.S. ports to be owned and operated by American citizens. The action could help lower the costs of shipping oil and other products. 
“In the interest of national defense, the White House is considering waiving the Jones Act for a limited period of time to ensure vital energy products and agricultural necessities are flowing freely to U.S. ports. Since the launch of the Iran operation, gas prices have risen significantly across the United States. The national average on Thursday was $3.59 per gallon compared to $2.94 one month ago, <a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to AAA.
Trump has also floated using U.S. Navy ships to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, where roughly a fifth of the world’s oil flows. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Thursday that it may happen soon, but said the military was focused on the Iran operation at the moment. 
“It’ll happen relatively soon, but it can’t happen now,” he <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/12/energy-secretary-wright-says-us-not-ready-to-escort-tankers-through-strait-of-hormuz-yet.html">told</a> CNBC. “We’re simply not ready. All of our military assets right now are focused on destroying Iran’s offensive capabilities and the manufacturing industry that supplies their offensive capabilities.”
“I’ll be over at the Pentagon later today — that is what the military is working on,” he added. 
Mojtaba Khamenei, the new supreme leader of Iran, said in a message released Thursday that they would continue to make passage through the Strait of Hormuz difficult. “Certainly, the lever of closing the Strait of Hormuz must continue to be used,” he said. 
Both Iraq and Oman closed oil terminals on Thursday after two oil tankers were struck by projectiles in the Persian Gulf. Iran took credit for one of the attacks, while Iraqi officials suspected Iran was to blame for the other tanker attack.

The spike came as Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf disrupted the flow of oil in the region. 

At least two oil tankers were struck off the coast of Iraq on Wednesday by projectiles, <a href="https://www.ukmto.org/-/media/ukmto/products/20260311-ukmto_warning_021-26-update-001.pdf?rev=52a1e05613504b56b3d03f2a2d0489ee">according</a> to the shipping monitoring group United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations. Crews on both tankers were evacuated as fires broke out.
Iran <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/03/12/world/iran-war-news-trump-oil-israel">reportedly</a> took credit for attacking one of the tankers, claiming the ship “disobeyed and ignored” commands. Iran is suspected of attacking the other tanker, according to Iraqi officials.
A video released by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps featured a man celebrating the attack, the New York Post reported.
“Allah is the greatest! The destruction of an American tanker in the northern district of the Persian Gulf! I obey you Khamenei! Hail be the Islamic Republic of Iran! Soldiers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy!” the man <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/12/world-news/oil-prices-surge-above-100-per-barrel-after-six-ships-attacked-in-persian-gulf-strait-of-hormuz/">said</a>.
The attacks prompted both Iraq and Oman to close off oil terminals for security purposes.

“We’re going to be doing that very quickly and then will fill it up. Will fill up our reserves,” Trump said.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/11/iran-war-trump-oil-strategic-petroleum-reserve.html">said</a> that around 172 million barrels of oil from the strategic reserve would start to be released next week.
When asked if the Treasury Department would begin purchasing oil futures to help bring down costs, Trump said he was focused on winning the war with Iran.
“They are pretty much at the end of the line. Doesn’t mean we’re going to end it immediately, but they are. They’ve got no navy, they’ve got no air force,” Trump said. “They have no systems of control. We’re just riding free range over their country.”
Trump has previously suggested that the Navy might be used to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
“We’re going to look very strongly at the straits. The straits are in great shape. We’ve knocked out all of their boats,” he said Wednesday. “But they have some missiles, but not very many. I think we’re in very good shape.”

Brent crude, the international benchmark price point for oil, skyrocketed to nearly $120 per barrel earlier this week, but then plummeted to under $90 after President Trump said on Monday that the war in Iran was &#8220;very far ahead of schedule.&#8221; As of Tuesday afternoon, Brent crude remained just below $90 per barrel, which is still much higher than before the United States and Israel began their joint operation targeting Iran on February 28.
The ongoing war in Iran has squeezed oil flow coming through the Strait of Hormuz, which sits between Iran and the United Arab Emirates and is the only passage for tankers leaving the Persian Gulf. Around 20% of the world&#8217;s oil is transported through the Strait of Hormuz, but that oil flow came to a near complete halt last week. As of Monday, oil tankers again began traversing the strait, with oil tanker traffic ticking up to 20% of its normal level, according to analysis from Goldman Sachs.
Trump has floated taking control of the strait. The White House is also considering using U.S. ships to escort oil tankers.
&#8220;That’s an option the president has said he will absolutely utilize if and when necessary at the appropriate time,” Leavitt said on Tuesday.
The president warned Iran on Monday, saying, &#8220;If Iran does anything that stops the flow of Oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they have been hit thus far.&#8221;
U.S. intelligence suggests that Iran could be preparing to drop mines in the Strait of Hormuz, CBS News <a href="https://x.com/JenniferJJacobs/status/2031433322555937181">reported</a>. Such a move could further threaten oil tanker traffic and stall oil flow to the world. If tankers are prevented from passing through the Strait of Hormuz for more than two weeks, oil could reach $150 per barrel, some experts warned, according to the Associated Press. Saudi Arabia&#8217;s state-run oil company also warned of &#8220;catastrophic consequences&#8221; for global oil markets if the important shipping lane does not reopen soon.

Filling up the gas tank could soon cost more as oil prices surge, as tensions escalate in the Middle East and Iran moves to cut off a critical oil route. 
Brent crude, the leading global price benchmark, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gas-prices-rise-oil-prices-inflation-iran-gasbuddy/">jumped</a> nearly 9% to $79.31 per barrel on Monday. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate crude, the U.S. benchmark, rose 6.2% on Monday to <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gas-prices-rise-oil-prices-inflation-iran-gasbuddy/">$71.19 per barrel</a>. Retail gas prices move about 2.5 cents for every dollar crude oil moves. 
GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan warned some gas stations could be charging as much as <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gas-prices-rise-oil-prices-inflation-iran-gasbuddy/">30 cents more per gallon</a> by the end of the week if the rally continues. Analysts at Barclays said Brent crude could climb to <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/oil-prices-forecast-iran-f6202cd8?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqdRBJ32x_Haqftt0lZuwjUiVj18Q2TLfq-mnAcZF_sSoYfd_UkdyBxaG8A0a2w%3D&amp;gaa_ts=69a5d00b&amp;gaa_sig=BNt0oCh25eo-W_sJmzuFoBpEaANJd6wxHAhI8mkBr6a77TAQPmIzKaOAnSKWsGgFCEzpdKDf-oJNPDbx_4herA%3D%3D">$100 per barrel </a>if supply concerns intensify. Currently, the median U.S. gas price is $2.79 per gallon. Haan says the national average is poised to reach the $3-per-gallon mark for the first time this year. 
Oil markets are rattled after Iran moved to restrict traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane that carries roughly 30% of the world’s seaborne oil. Producers in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the UAE, and Kuwait all use the Strait to ship oil to consumers across the world. According to Reuters, vessels in the region are receiving marine radio warnings from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard instructing ships not to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. 
Iran has not officially confirmed the directive. Amid escalating tensions, insurers told ship owners they would be canceling policies and raising coverage prices for vessels traveling through the strait. The Financial Times reported that the price for a ship traveling through the strait was about 25% of the ship’s value, but is now about <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/2dc114d0-5bb3-4fae-b538-9a050954549a">37.5%</a> of the ship’s value. So a voyage that cost $250,000 through the strait last week would cost $375,000 this week. 
In response to the uncertainty, several oil companies have paused shipments of crude oil and fuel through the waterway. Prolonged disruption could push global energy prices even higher. 
Former Energy Secretary Rick Perry, on Fox Business, praised President Donald Trump for increased domestic energy production that could help offset rising fuel costs. “Thanks to Donald Trump and the American oil and gas industry, we are producing more oil and gas than ever in history. And we will continue to do that. And given the signal, Americans and our allies, for that matter, can really develop a lot of oil and gas. We’ve got a lot of export facilities along the Gulf Coast of America.”
He added that while Iran can disrupt shipments in the Strait of Hormuz, he does not believe Iranians have the military capability to fully shut down the strait. “They don’t have the resources. They don’t have the Navy. They do not have the military force to be able to shut the Strait of Hormuz right now.”
President Trump said on Monday that the U.S. will continue strikes on Iran in the coming weeks. &#8220;Right from the beginning, we projected four to five weeks, but we have the capability to go far longer than that,&#8221; added the President.

&#8220;As you go into the holiday season, there is nothing better than saving money,&#8221; Energy Secretary Chris Wright told <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/energy/gas-prices-drop-below-3-nationwide-trump-says-2-gas-within-reach">Fox Business</a>.
According to AAA, the last time gas averaged $3 or below was May 2021. It was a different world: Joe Biden was president, California was still in COVID hibernation, and every junk drawer in America was 80% face masks.
Today, the average gas price per gallon is $2.978.
&#8220;This is what happens when the American public elects a president who cares about their pocketbook, cares about American people and not special interests or the climate crazies or whatever interest the Democrats are trying to appease,&#8221; Secretary Wright said. &#8220;President Trump&#8217;s just focused on the American consumer.&#8221;
California ($4.51) and Hawaii have the highest gas prices in the country. The states with the lowest gas prices are Oklahoma ($2.40), Texas ($2.53), Arkansas ($2.55), Colorado ($2.56), Mississippi ($2.57), Tennessee ($2.58), Louisiana ($2.60), Iowa ($2.63), Wisconsin ($2.63), and Missouri ($2.64), per AAA.

Trump said he thinks the national average can go way lower.
&#8220;We&#8217;re gonna be, I think, at $2 a gallon,&#8221; Trump said during a press conference earlier this week. &#8220;We could even crack that at some point, I&#8217;d love to do it. We could do it more easily if we weren&#8217;t building up the Strategic National Reserves, which Biden emptied out before the election.&#8221;
The reserves Trump is referring to are the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the government’s emergency supply of crude oil stored along the Gulf of America.
Crude oil prices are hovering around $60 a barrel, which is driving down <a href="https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/">gasoline</a> prices at the pump.
Secretary Wright said another boost to Americans&#8217; wallets would be to continue building the domestic oil and gas supply.
&#8220;We will see increasing production in the next six to 12 months out of the Gulf of America. If you look carefully at the oil production data in the U.S., as a whole right now, it&#8217;s almost a million barrels a day higher than it was 12 months ago. So even with low oil prices, we&#8217;re seeing more development. Just common sense is back in town.&#8221;
The <a href="https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/steo/">U.S. Energy Information Administration</a> predicts gas prices will remain below the $3/gallon average in 2026.

President Donald Trump’s dealings with the Saudis have re‑energized the U.S.–Saudi partnership. In May 2025, his administration <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/05/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-secures-historic-600-billion-investment-commitment-in-saudi-arabia/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">announced</a> a Saudi investment commitment of $600 billion in U.S. industry, energy, infrastructure, and tech. On the energy front, Saudi’s national oil champion, Saudi Aramco, <a href="https://www.investing.com/news/commodities-news/saudi-aramco-signs-deals-worth-up-to-90-billion-with-us-companies-4045710?utm_source=chatgpt.com">announced</a> preliminary U.S. corporate ties worth up to $90 billion on the back of Trump’s Gulf tour. That kind of alignment means Saudis have skin in U.S. production and supply reliability, which gives the U.S. far more leverage in global markets and less reliance on adversarial supply shocks.

Contrast that with former President Joe Biden’s rhetoric.
“President Biden said he would make the kingdom of Saudi Arabia a pariah state. That was an enormous mistake,” former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/pompeo-biden-calling-saudi-arabia-pariah-state-enormous-mistake">said</a> in July 2022. “But let&#8217;s look at the facts. They are an important security partner for the United States. There&#8217;s only one country in that whole region that wants to threaten the United States of America and Israel and wipe us from the face of the earth. That&#8217;s the leadership in Iran and the kingdom of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s been an important partner in helping protect us from that threat.”
In early April 2023, Saudi Arabia, whose relationship with the United States had taken a nosedive during Biden’s tenure, announced it would lead the members of OPEC, including Russia, to cut more than one million barrels of output a day starting next month, which could cause higher U.S. inflation.
And Biden was reticent about raiding the United States’ Strategic Petroleum Reserve in order to keep customers happy. In March 2022, Biden announced that he would release 1 million barrels a day to cut the cost American consumers were paying for gas. That was the biggest withdrawal in the reserve’s 46-year-history.

WASHINGTON —Over the holiday weekend, gas prices are projected to hit their lowest levels since Labor Day 2020, according to GasBuddy&#8217;s annual Labor Day price forecast.
Labor Day gas prices averaged $2.22 a gallon in 2020, $3.16 in 2021, $3.79 in 2022, $3.77 in 2023, and $3.29 in 2024.
And this weekend, according to GasBuddy, they&#8217;re projected to be at $3.15 a gallon.
“Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, and when it comes to gas prices, it’s been the cheapest summer to hit the road since the pandemic, a trend that will likely continue with the potential for the national average to fall below $3 per gallon this fall,” explained Patrick De Haan, who heads petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“We’ve seen a remarkably affordable summer to hit the road with incomes up and gas prices down, but there are some challenges that remain: hurricane season and uncertainty over trade, tariffs, and Russia’s war on Ukraine,&#8221; he added. &#8220;However, I remain optimistic that as cooler weather invades, gas prices too will seasonally cool off.”
The White House is celebrating the news, noting that it fulfills President Donald Trump&#8217;s promise to bring down the rising costs of living for many Americans.
“From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Americans have been saving significant money at the pump all summer long with the cheapest gas prices in 5 years,&#8221; White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;President Trump promised to unleash American energy and make everyday life more affordable for families, and he delivered,&#8221; she added.

Though GasBuddy predicts  that it will be the &#8220;most affordable Labor Day weekend to fill up for the most in the last five years,&#8221; the fuel savings platform also says that gas prices in many states have risen over the past month &#8220;due to localized refinery outages.&#8221;
&#8220;However, motorists can expect more relief to arrive in the weeks ahead as much of the nation will see the transition back to cheaper winter gasoline in mid-September,&#8221; GasBuddy noted in a release. &#8220;Gasoline demand will also soon begin to fall with the conclusion of the summer as motorists take fewer road trips and as temperatures start to cool off.&#8221;

This summer, gas prices have hit the lowest national average since 2021.
Prices dropped to $3.155 per gallon since last week, the American Automobile Association (AAA) reported on Friday.
“Prices at the pump keep dropping thanks to President Trump unleashing American energy,&#8221; White House Assistant Press Secretary Taylor Rogers told The Daily Wire. &#8220;President Trump ended Joe Biden’s reckless war on American energy, and he’s making life more affordable for families as a result.”
As of Friday, the nation&#8217;s <a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/">highest gas prices</a> are in California, where the average cost is at $4.499 per gallon. Hawaii and Washington were the only other states above $4 per gallon, averaging $4.475 and $4.386, respectively. Mississippi has the country&#8217;s cheapest gas, averaging $2.72 per gallon.
“Summer gas prices are the cheapest they have been in four years thanks to consistently low crude oil prices this year,&#8221; AAA Spokesperson Kellan Howell told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Crude oil supply is currently outweighing demand.”
In June 2022, midway through the Biden administration, AAA found that for the first time since it began tracking prices, the national average for a gallon of gas had reached $5.00. Fuel prices remained elevated for the remainder of former President Joe Biden&#8217;s term, well above the $2.39 figure that marked the start of his presidency.
Gas prices <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inflation-creeps-up-as-trump-prepares-major-tariff-rollout">ticked</a> up 1% in June, according to the most recent Consumer Price Index report. But prices have remained low this summer, despite tensions in the Middle East.
The Trump administration has taken steps to prioritize lower fuel costs. The recently passed &#8220;One Big, Beautiful Bill&#8221; encourages fossil fuel development and cuts tax credits and subsidies from green energy. The administration has said, &#8220;Having efficient, reliable, and affordable energy is the key to American security.&#8221;
The Department of the Interior just <a href="https://www.doi.gov/pressreleases/interior-ends-preferential-treatment-unreliable-subsidy-dependent-wind-and-solar">announced</a> plans to &#8220;[end] preferential treatment for unreliable, subsidy-dependent wind and solar energy.&#8221; The department will end subsidies for wind and solar energy to &#8220;[level] the playing field for … clean coal and domestic natural gas.&#8221; Wind and solar projects will now undergo &#8220;elevated review&#8221; before being approved.
The Trump administration also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/end-the-government-bias-against-coal-trump-signs-order-to-bolster-floundering-american-industry">announced</a> plans to slash regulations and expedite leases for coal mining. A new coal mine in Tennessee was <a href="https://www.doi.gov/pressreleases/new-coal-mining-permit-approved-tennessee-boost-americas-energy-independence">approved</a> thanks to &#8220;expedited environmental review&#8221; procedures.

This month marks a bleak anniversary for American families — and a perfect illustration of the cost of Joe Biden’s failures. It was just three years ago, in June of 2022, when gas prices in the United States <a href="https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/leafhandler.ashx?f=m&amp;n=pet&amp;s=emm_epm0_pte_nus_dpg">hit their highest</a> level in history, topping $5.00 per gallon.
That’s back when the Biden White House tried to make you believe this was all just an unavoidable consequence of global events. While they were <a href="https://bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2022/06/22/remarks-by-president-biden-on-gas-prices-and-putins-price-hike/">trying to spin</a> “Putin’s Price Hike,” the data told a far more damning story: gas prices started climbing immediately after Joe Biden took office. 
From his first day, President Biden declared war on American energy. He canceled pipelines, froze leases, threatened regulations, and proudly signaled to the world that under his administration, fossil fuels were enemy number one.
Predictably, markets responded. American oil production stalled. Investment dried up. Prices began their climb long before Vladimir Putin moved a single tank. By the time Russia invaded Ukraine, Biden’s energy mismanagement had already paved the way for a full-blown price crisis.
Remember: In early 2022, the Biden Administration’s response to Americans struggling with high gas prices was to <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1501709925168431111?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1501709925168431111%7Ctwgr%5E3f652e74ef31f975ad787de9c56c9e187b56f658%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fpolitics%2Fclips-of-energy-sec-laughing-off-gas-price-concerns-resurface-as-pain-at-pump-intensifies">simply buy an electric car</a>. As the 2022 midterms approached, Biden faced the political fallout of his own policies.
In response, he didn’t encourage production or unleash American drillers. Instead, he reached for the most cynical tool at his disposal: the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), America’s emergency oil stockpile.
Designed to be used in times of true national crisis — war, natural disaster, or supply collapse — the SPR was never intended to bail out failing politicians. But that’s exactly what Biden used it for. To try and save his party as midterm elections loomed in 2022, the president opened the spigot and <a href="https://bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/10/18/fact-sheet-president-biden-to-announce-new-actions-to-strengthen-u-s-energy-security-encourage-production-and-bring-down-costs/">drained nearly 200 million barrels</a> from the SPR, the largest release in American history. He wasn’t trying to fix supply chains or repair his broken energy policy. He was trying to fix polling numbers.

In fact, Biden didn’t even bother pretending otherwise. His own White House press releases framed the SPR release as a response to &#8220;Putin’s price hike&#8221; — ignoring, of course, that prices were already surging well before Russian troops crossed the border. And the timing? Pure politics. As the 2022 midterms approached and Democrats faced the real prospect of losing control of Congress, the White House scrambled to ease prices at the pump in a transparent bid to soften voter anger.
The political gamesmanship went even further behind the scenes. In October 2022, as OPEC considered production cuts that would have sent prices soaring once again, Biden administration officials <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/13/biden-admin-asked-saudi-arabia-to-postpone-opec-cut-by-a-month-saudis-say.html">secretly begged Saudi Arabia</a> to delay their cuts until after the election. Not reverse the cuts — just delay them long enough to avoid embarrassing headlines before voters went to the polls. The Saudis publicly confirmed the request. The Biden team was never trying to protect American drivers; they were trying to protect Democratic incumbents.
Today, America is paying the price for Biden’s short-term political fix. As war rages in the Middle East — this time with conflict escalating between Israel and Iran — the world sits on the edge of another energy shock. But our emergency reserve, which once held over 700 million barrels, is now dangerously depleted. According to the latest government data, the SPR sits at just <a href="https://ycharts.com/indicators/us_ending_stocks_of_crude_oil_in_the_strategic_petroleum_reserve">over 400 million barrels</a> — barely more than half full. That’s the lowest level in decades. And thanks to Biden’s manipulation, we’re entering this dangerous period with far less of a safety net.
The Strategic Petroleum Reserve was created to give America breathing room during times of global chaos. Joe Biden used it as a campaign slush fund. He drained it to temporarily hide the consequences of his anti-American energy agenda, hoping voters wouldn’t notice the long-term damage. Now, as the world grows more unstable, America is weaker, more exposed, and less prepared — all because one president thought his poll numbers mattered more than the nation&#8217;s energy security.
Joe Biden mortgaged America’s oil security and Left our strategic gas tank dangerously low. The recklessness is breathtaking.
No wonder it’s an anniversary the Left would rather forget.

Gas prices are projected to hit the lowest level in more than two decades on Memorial Day, according to the fuel price tracker GasBuddy.
The price would be the lowest nominal level since 2021. Adjusted for inflation, the cost would be the lowest since 2003. The price is expected to remain low over the summer, potentially dipping below the $3.00 a gallon mark.
The projected price is a significant drop from where the national average hit a year ago at $3.58. In 2022, the cost of gas over Memorial Day was over a dollar more at $4.60.

Nearly seven-in-ten Americans, 69%, plan to take a road trip at some point this summer. That is a slight drop from last summer when 76% of Americans said they planned to take a road trip, according to a GasBuddy survey.
“While we’re forecasting the lowest summer gas prices in years, economic jitters are slightly dampening optimism — but we still expect a robust travel season, with millions of Americans hitting the road, many for extended trips,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a <a href="https://www.gasbuddy.com/go/summer-travel-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>.
The drop in gas prices comes as the Trump administration has made lower fuel costs a priority. The administration has taken steps to cut investment in uneconomic green projects such as solar and wind power and encouraged fossil fuel development.
In February, Trump <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/establishing-the-national-energy-dominance-council/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">established</a> the National Energy Dominance Council, an inter-agency council headed by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. Energy Secretary Chris Wright serves as the council’s vice-chair. The council aims to boost fossil fuel production to lower costs for Americans as well as bolster the United States’ economic and national security.
“I’m going to share two words that I do not think that you have heard from a federal official in the Biden administration during the last four years. And those two words are thank you,” Burgum <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/15/trump-administration-message-to-oil-and-gas-industry-youre-the-customer.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> a gathering of oil, gas, and mining executives in March, making clear the administration’s support for those sectors.
The Trump administration’s approach to energy was a sea change from that of former President Joe Biden. Under the Biden administration, the government saw climate change as an existential threat and poured funding into green energy projects while taking steps to tamp down fossil fuel use.
Fuel prices <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/energy/gas-prices-again-doubled-biden-took-office-despite-white-house-claiming-costs-fallen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">surged</a> under Biden. In June 2022, AAA found the national average for a gallon of gas had hit $5.00, the first time AAA had marked that price since it began tracking the price of gas in 2000. Fuel prices remained elevated well over the $2.39 figure that began Biden’s presidency for the rest of his term.
