Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kamala Harris</a>, the Democratic Party&#8217;s presidential nominee, is &#8220;not fit&#8221; to serve as commander in chief, House Republican Conference Chairwoman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elise-stefanik" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elise Stefanik</a> (R-NY) said on Sunday.
&#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; guest host Sean Duffy asked Stefanik about whether she believes Harris is capable of protecting U.S. citizens around the world after six hostages held by Hamas, including 23-year-old American-Israeli Hersh Goldberg-Polin, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/american-israeli-hersh-goldberg-polin-among-six-dead-hostages-recovered-by-israeli-forces-in-rafah" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were found dead in Gaza</a>.
&#8220;Well, first of all, my heart and the American people&#8217;s heart goes out to all of the families of hostages, particularly Hersh Goldberg-Polin&#8217;s parents, who I have had the opportunity to meet with. I have met with many of the hostage families,&#8221; Stefanik began.
&#8220;This happened on [President] Joe Biden and Kamala Harris&#8217; watch. This is a Biden-Harris administration that has turned their back on supporting Israel. We need to show strong support with Israel. There should be no daylight and using all of our efforts to bring home all these hostages,&#8221; Stefanik said.

&#8220;What did we see from Kamala Harris and Joe Biden? That they withheld critical military aid at a very important time. It is a disgrace. And you asked the question, Sean, is she fit to protect our national security interests and American citizens around the world? The answer is an overwhelming no,&#8221; the congresswoman added.
&#8220;She is not fit to serve the role as commander in chief,&#8221; Stefanik continued. &#8220;She has — the fact that this is an American and an American-Israeli citizen who lost his lives on their watch, it is a disgrace, and it&#8217;s going to go down in history as one of the darkest chapters of our national security policy.&#8221;
Stefanik referenced the third anniversary of the Kabul airport bombing that killed 13 U.S. service members during the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021 and Gold Star families <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gold-star-families-blast-kamala-harris-for-heinous-vile-disgusting-post-attacking-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">who condemned Harris</a> after she attacked GOP presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump over a recent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vance-calls-harris-disgraceful-over-response-to-kabul-airport-attack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">alleged incident</a> at Arlington National Cemetery.
&#8220;Look at this past week, Sean. This was the three-year anniversary of those 13 service members in Afghanistan, now 13 Gold Star families, and you have Kamala Harris&#8217; campaign politicizing this, not mentioning their names, not taking accountability for that catastrophic decision?&#8221; Stefanik said.
&#8220;She was the last person in the room advising Joe Biden, and yet they&#8217;re criticizing Donald Trump for answering yes to the invitation from those families in Arlington,&#8221; Stefanik added. &#8220;Kamala Harris is a disgrace, and we need to make sure she never becomes commander in chief.&#8221;

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik on Monday condemned Democratic vice-presidential nominee and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for rubbing shoulders with the founder of National Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) during a 2019 event.
Walz was photographed with the anti-Semitic scholar and SJP founder Hatem Bazian during the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)’s March 2019 event on “Challenging Islamophobia&#8221; at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, the Washington Free Beacon <a href="https://freebeacon.com/elections/tim-walz-cozied-up-to-anti-semitic-terror-defender-at-2019-cair-event-photos-show/">reported</a>.
“Tim Walz condones and props up anti-Semites like The Most Dangerous Professor in America Hatem Bazian,” Stefanik told The Daily Wire. “Kamala Harris and Tim Walz is the most radical anti-Semitic ticket in history.&#8221;
Walz reportedly opened the CAIR event, and used his remarks to announce the formation of an office to address Islamophobia in Minnesota.
Bazian is also the founder of the anti-Israel American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), which is under investigation in Virginia for suspicions it finances terrorist activity, according to the Free Beacon.
The troubling anti-Semitic histories of CAIR and SJP have been well-documented, especially since Hamas’ October 7 massacre of Israelis. CAIR’s executive director, Nihad Awad, celebrated Hamas’s attack <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cair-executive-director-i-was-happy-to-see-people-breaking-the-siege-on-october-7">stating</a> he was “happy to see people breaking the siege” and that Israel does “not have that right to self-defense.” 
SJP has been the driving force behind the anti-Israel encampments on college campuses, which have led to the harassment of Jewish students and the disruption of some college graduations.
Both AMP and SJP were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-palestinian-groups-leading-college-protests-work-as-collaborators-and-propagandists-for-hamas-federal-lawsuit">named in a May lawsuit</a> filed in federal court, which accuses the groups of working to support Hamas, a U.S.-designated terror organization, by acting as “collaborators” and “propagandists.”
Walz came under fire last week after it was <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/presidential/3114957/tim-walz-repeatedly-hosted-muslim-cleric-oct-7-pro-hitler-website-link/">revealed</a> that he hosted extremist Islamist Imam, Asad Zaman, multiple times. Zaman met with Walz&#8217;s gubernatorial office as recently as May 2023. Zaman, who is the executive director at the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, has a history of sharing his Facebook page to share Hamas press releases, anti-Semitic blogs, and a link to a piece on a website for a 2013 pro-Hitler film, the Washington Examiner reported.
In a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/asad.zaman.31542/posts/pfbid0DMPLqKkjEb7djYWLjcByWSi7LRBe8kQmN4M9LQMtXTsBBKrGroZcQ516WxiipENcl">statemen</a>t on October 7, the Muslim American Society of Minnesota affirmed its “unwavering support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation” and called for the U.S. to “pressure Israel to cease these atrocities” many days before Israel entered Gaza.
Zaman also delivered the invocation before Walz’s 2019 state address, and was reportedly awarded over $100,000 in funding from Walz’s administration.

The GOP-led <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House</a> passed a resolution in bipartisan fashion on Thursday to condemn Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kamala Harris</a> as &#8220;border czar&#8221; and the Biden administration for its inability to curb illegal immigration.
Six Democrats <a href="https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2024400" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joined</a> with 214 Republicans in voting for the measure. Another 196 Democrats voted against it. Sixteen members, including six Republicans and 10 Democrats, did not cast a vote. The Democrats who broke ranks were Reps. Yadira Caraveo (D-CO), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Don Davis (D-NC), Jared Golden (D-ME), Mary Peltola (D-AK), and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA).

Biden <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Root-Causes-Strategy.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tasked</a> Harris with leading his administration&#8217;s efforts to deal with Mexico and other countries to stem the tide of migration to the southern U.S. border in March 2021. At the time, Harris <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2021/03/24/remarks-by-president-biden-and-vice-president-harris-in-a-meeting-on-immigration/">said</a> the government &#8220;must address the root causes&#8230;that cause people to make the trek.&#8221;
Stefanik&#8217;s resolution accuses Biden and Harris of instituting &#8220;far left Democrat open border policies&#8221; and making the border crisis &#8220;significantly worse&#8221; by formally ending former President Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/supreme-court-rules-biden-administration-can-end-trump-era-remain-in-mexico-policy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;Remain in Mexico&#8221; program</a> in August 2022.
Other clauses in the resolution reference how the VP waited 93 days before visiting the border, officials recording millions of illegal immigrant encounters since Biden and Harris took office, murders of Americans committed by illegal immigrants, people on the terrorist watch list trying to cross the border, costs on taxpayers, and other issues.

&#8220;House Republicans will vote on my resolution to condemn Kamala Harris&#8217; failure as Joe Biden&#8217;s border czar,&#8221; Stefanik said in a <a href="https://x.com/RepStefanik/status/1815799380080771346" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>. &#8220;Kamala Harris&#8217; failed leadership led to the most catastrophic open border crisis in history.&#8221;
She added, &#8220;Biden’s open border czar Kamala Harris, and every elected Democrat is responsible for this border crisis and they must all be held accountable for their role in jeopardizing our national security and turning every community into a border community.&#8221;

GOP Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elise-stefanik" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elise Stefanik</a> of New York blasted President Joe Biden’s record in short remarks at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday evening.
Stefanik, the chair of the House Republican Conference, emphasized the importance of November’s election as a battle for the “Constitution and the soul of our very nation.” She ripped Biden’s record from immigration, to the economy, to foreign affairs and national security.
“Under Joe Biden, the American people have suffered crisis after crisis. From the Biden border, the most wide-open border in our nation’s history, to Bidenflation, the highest rate of inflation in my lifetime, devastating hardworking families with skyrocketing prices for groceries, gas, and utilities,” Stefanik said.
“To Biden’s violent crime crisis fueled by Democrats’ pro-criminal sanctuary cities, and defund-the-police policies like we have seen in my home state of New York – all while corrupt Democrat prosecutors and judges wage illegal and unconstitutional lawfare against President Trump in an effort to do Joe Biden’s political bidding,” she continued.
She then pivoted to foreign policy, citing the Afghanistan withdrawal during which 13 U.S. service members died in a terrorist attack alongside dozens of Afghans. The U.S. pulled out of Afghanistan on short notice, leaving behind hundreds of American citizens and thousands of Afghanistan allies who worked with U.S. military personnel against the Taliban, the terror group that blitzed across Afghanistan and took over the country as the U.S. withdrew.
“Around the world the feckless and failed Joe Biden has caused chaos, weakening our national security: from the catastrophic withdrawal of Afghanistan to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine to Hamas’ terrorist attack against our most precious ally, Israel,” Stefanik said.
The GOP conference chair urged Americans to vote for former president Donald Trump in November.
“President Trump will bring back moral leadership to the White House, condemning anti-Semitism and standing strong with Israel and the Jewish people,” Stefanik said after condemning the “radical Left” for openly supporting Hamas and threatening Jews across college campuses.

Former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump&#8217;s</a> campaign has reportedly requested documents from several individuals who he is considering to be his vice presidential running mate.
Among those who have so far received requests are North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and former cabinet member Ben Carson.
Those listed may not be the only ones who have contacted thus far as ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/vp-contenders-burgum-vance-rubio-asked-documents-trump/story?id=110870278" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that &#8220;others are likely to be considered for the No. 2 job.&#8221; The Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-vp-paperwork-vetting-b1e21a7e9eae7141c4f144735671b330" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the list is &#8220;fluid and evolving,&#8221; meaning that it will likely change as Trump sees fit.
A Trump campaign spokesperson said that &#8220;anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump.&#8221;
Polling last month from an I&amp;I/TIPP Poll indicated that 15% of Republican voters choose Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as their first choice for VP, while 14% choose him as their second choice for VP — both numbers were the highest of all the candidates listed.
Out of the candidates who were listed by the Associated Press, Carson had the highest ranking for first choice in the poll at 5%, followed by Scott at 4%, Rubio at 2%, and the remaining contenders at 1% or less.
Another name that has generated headlines in recent weeks and might be moving up Trump&#8217;s board for contenders is Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), especially after his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tom-cotton-blasts-manhattan-prosecution-theres-no-question-donald-trump-should-win-on-appeal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passionate defense</a> of Trump during a Sunday interview on NBC News.

When asked during the interview if he would accept the job offer, Cotton responded: &#8220;Any great patriot, if offered a chance to serve our country by the president, would have to consider it seriously. But what I’m focused on, like the president, is making sure that we win this election in November, and I want to help him govern successfully to restore the peace and prosperity that he brought to America for four years that Joe Biden has destroyed.&#8221;

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/house-republicans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leading House Republicans</a> touted on Tuesday a &#8220;three-pronged&#8221; strategy to push back against the flurry of criminal cases against former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> as he runs another campaign for the White House.
House Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) talked about the use of investigations, legislation, and power of the purse during a press conference on Capitol Hill days after 12 jurors <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/verdict-trump-found-guilty-on-all-charges-in-hush-money-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> Trump on felony charges in a New York hush-money case. Trump, who faces the prospect of jail time, has vowed to appeal the verdict.
&#8220;We’re going to do everything we can — everything within our scope of our responsibility in the Congress to address it appropriately,&#8221; Johnson <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG_OUmxhIwk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> of the congressional response to the verdict and three other prospective trials that Trump faces in matters that focus on the handling of classified documents and the 2020 election.
Noting the House GOP is &#8220;working on a three-pronged approach,&#8221; Johnson explained, &#8220;We&#8217;re looking at various approaches to what can be done here through the appropriations process, through the legislative process, through bills that will be advancing through our committees and put on the floor for passage and also through oversight.&#8221;
He added, &#8220;All those things will be happening vigorously. Because we must do that, because the stakes are too high and because people are losing faith in our institutions. And that at the end of the day, is something that should concern every single one of us, and I think it does.&#8221;
House Republicans have opened <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jim-jordan-flashes-subpoena-threat-at-jack-smith" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigations</a> into key players involved in the Trump cases and have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-republicans-propose-ways-to-stifle-trump-prosecutors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proposed legislation</a> to restrain the prosecutors who are leading them. Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) <a href="https://x.com/Jim_Jordan/status/1796563134943010934" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> prosecutors from the hush-money case to testify and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jim-jordan-proposes-defunding-prosecutors-in-trump-cases" target="_blank" rel="noopener">submitted</a> proposals that would leverage the fiscal 2025 appropriations process.
One of the other top House members who appeared at the press conference on Tuesday, Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), <a href="https://x.com/HouseGOP/status/1798002757703528832" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expounded</a> on efforts already underway to &#8220;look into the weaponization of government&#8221; that Republicans argue is being leveraged against Trump by President Joe Biden and his allies.
&#8220;We have committees &#8230; continuing to get transparency, bringing in witnesses. But we are also bringing legislation,&#8221; Scalise said. &#8220;You&#8217;re going to see in the appropriations process us look at the funding of some of these agencies. You&#8217;re going to also see policies that are going to be coming forward that are going to address the abuses of power that we&#8217;ve seen.&#8221;

House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY), <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trumps-potential-vp-picks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a contender</a> to be Trump’s vice presidential running mate who has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/stefanik-files-complaint-over-trump-hush-money-case-questions-whether-judge-selection-was-random" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed a number of complaints</a> regarding the hush-money case, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUWkajHGexo&amp;feature=youtu.be" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the guilty verdict last week &#8220;shows how corrupt, rigged, and unAmerican the weaponized justice system has become under Joe Biden and Democrats.&#8221;
She added, &#8220;We must work and are committed to working around the clock to ensure President Trump is victorious this November to save America from Biden’s failed Far Left Democrat agenda and this illegal weaponization of the justice system against the American people.&#8221;

Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elise-stefanik" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elise Stefanik</a> (R-NY) filed a complaint on Tuesday that raised doubts about whether the judge in former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a>&#8216;s hush-money trial had been randomly selected for the case.
Rules for the New York State Trial Courts require criminal actions be assigned to a judge via &#8220;random selection&#8221; authorized by the chief administrator, Stefanik <a href="https://x.com/EliseStefanik/status/1795585619223081302" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote in a letter</a>. Yet Merchan is not only presiding over Trump&#8217;s trial but also oversaw a criminal trial against the Trump Organization and will be presiding over Trump ally Steve Bannon&#8217;s <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/25/politics/steve-bannon-trial-date/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fraud trial</a>.
Stefanik also pointed out that Merchan has <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/17/nyregion/trump-trial-judge-merchan-donations.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">donated</a> to groups supporting Democrats and has a daughter who is a political consultant with a record of <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/02/nyregion/trump-trial-judge-daughter.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">doing work</a> for Democrat candidates.
&#8220;One cannot help but suspect that the &#8216;random selection&#8217; at work in the assignment of Acting Justice Merchan, a Democrat Party donor, to these cases involving prominent Republicans, is in fact not random at all,&#8221; Stefanik said.
Stefanik said the &#8220;simple answer&#8221; for why Merchan was picked for all three cases was that whoever made the assignment &#8220;intentionally&#8221; selected him to &#8220;increase the chance&#8221; of convictions.
The letter was addressed to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct and Kay-Ann Porter Campbell, inspector general for the New York State Unified Court System Office of Court Administration.
Stefanik requested that both recipients &#8220;investigate this anomaly to determine whether the required random selection process was in fact followed&#8221; in the trio of cases she mentioned.
&#8220;If Acting Justice Merchan or any other Justices of the Court are found to have violated these rules, I would hope that the Commission would subject them to the required discipline,&#8221; Stefanik wrote. &#8220;And if any non-judicial employees of the Court are involved in such a scheme, I would hope that the Inspector General subject them to the appropriate sanction.&#8221;
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/05/28/us-news/elise-stefanik-files-misconduct-complaint-against-judge-juan-merchan-over-random-assignment-to-trumps-trial/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> a statement from the New York State Office of Court Administration (OCA) that offered an explanation for Merchan&#8217;s involvement in Trump-related cases.

“As we’ve said repeatedly, including in April 2023, Judge Merchan was assigned to supervise the special grand juries that investigated the Trump Organization and Allen Weisselberg as well as Donald Trump,&#8221; said OCA spokesperson Al Baker.
&#8220;He was, in turn, assigned the indictments that arose from those investigations, which is common practice since the judge supervising the grand jury investigation already has some familiarity with these often-complex cases and can manage them more efficiently,” Baker added.
Stefanik, the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, is seen as a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trumps-potential-vp-picks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">contender</a> to be Trump&#8217;s vice presidential running mate. The congresswoman previously filed an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/stefanik-files-ethics-complaint-against-trump-trial-judge-cites-daughters-work-group-promoting-dems" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ethics complaint</a> against Merchan, warning of a potential conflict of interest related to his daughter&#8217;s work.

During an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6353232615112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> on &#8220;Fox News Sunday,&#8221; House GOP Conference Chairwoman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elise-stefanik" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elise Stefanik</a> (R-NY) said that Biden has &#8220;equivocated&#8221; on his support for Israel as he seeks re-election.
She alluded to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nearly-20-of-minnesota-democratic-primary-voters-pick-uncommitted-over-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">backlash</a> against Biden in states with large Muslim populations as far-Left activists encouraged voters to send a message about their dissatisfaction with the Israel-Hamas war.
&#8220;This is about Joe Biden’s beleaguered and failing polls in states like Michigan. There is desperation politically,&#8221; Stefanik said. &#8220;Shame on Joe Biden. It is a betrayal of the importance of the U.S.-Israel alliance, that is the most precious in the region.&#8221;
Earlier this month, Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cotton-accuses-biden-of-imposing-a-de-facto-arms-embargo-against-israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">halted the delivery</a> of 3,500 large bombs to Israel in protest of a full-scale ground operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. House Republicans responded with legislation meant to pressure the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/biden-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biden administration</a> to provide the defense weapons to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Israel</a>.
Although Biden has threatened to veto the bill, House Republicans <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-bill-to-stop-biden-from-withholding-arms-from-israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> the legislation on Thursday — with the help of <a href="https://twitter.com/AndrewSolender/status/1791217393189916997">16 Democrats</a> who broke ranks with leadership in their party.
Stefanik asserted Biden had betrayed the &#8220;intent&#8221; of Congress because he previously signed off on legislation passed by lawmakers that provides aid to Israel and other nations.

In a show of solidarity with Israel, which began a campaign in Gaza to root out Hamas after the group&#8217;s deadly terrorist attacks in October, Stefanik traveled to Jerusalem this weekend and delivered a speech.

&#8220;There is a great deal that we are doing in Congress and our oversight,&#8221; Stefanik said. &#8220;And our legislative solutions will consist of pulling back federal funding, addressing the foreign dollars that are flowing into these institutions, and holding these schools accountable.&#8221;

And that&#8217;s why you&#8217;re seeing trepidation among Democrats from speaking out, because this is their base. And the reality is, this is why Republicans continue to poll stronger and stronger, because we represent peace and security. We represent standing up for the Constitution,&#8221; Stefanik said.

Among those who joined Trump on stage in the Grand Ballroom for a lunch event were Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Tim Scott (R-SC), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, all former 2024 presidential rivals now considered to be in the running for vice president, according to a post to X from his campaign.
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Wesley Hunt (R-TX), who have all been mentioned as part of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kellyanne-conway-offers-insight-into-trump-veepstakes-suggests-person-of-color" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Veepstakes</a> this election cycle, also attended.
Other Republicans who were present included House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Reps. Jim Banks (R-IN), who is running for Senate; Michael Waltz (R-FL); Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick; and Ohio Senate candidate Bernie Moreno.
During the event, Trump recognized the RNC&#8217;s fundraising efforts and &#8220;enthusiasm&#8221; for his &#8220;Make America Great Again&#8221; movement, per his campaign. He spoke for around 90 minutes about the presidential race, election integrity, the economy, the border, and protests taking place on university campuses. He also touted Johnson&#8217;s work as a speaker and advocated for party unity.

On Wednesday, two leading <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/house-republicans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House Republicans</a> again pressed the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate whether <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/michael-cohen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Cohen</a>, former President Donald Trump&#8217;s onetime lawyer and fixer, committed perjury during testimony before Congress in 2019.
House GOP Conference Chairwoman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/elise-stefanik" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elise Stefanik</a> (R-NY) and Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, claiming that the DOJ had yet to address the criminal referral they sent nearly <a href="https://stefanik.house.gov/2023/11/stefanik-and-turner-send-criminal-referral-to-doj-demanding-immediate-investigation-of-michael-cohen-for-perjury-knowingly-making-false-statements-while-testifying-under-oath" target="_blank" rel="noopener">six months ago</a>.
&#8220;To date, we received no response from the Biden Justice Department regarding this criminal referral. This is unacceptable,&#8221; the lawmakers <a href="https://files.constantcontact.com/81b76c35801/c6f5d94a-1813-45f1-b0e7-165239741c9e.pdf?rdr=true" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>, adding that &#8220;despite an admission from Mr. Cohen that he lied under oath to Congress, the Biden Justice Department did nothing.&#8221;
Cohen <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-sues-michael-cohen-for-500-million" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pleaded guilty</a> in 2018 to multiple crimes, including lying to Congress, and ended up serving time in prison. He is now <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michael-avenatti-claims-he-is-willing-to-testify-in-trump-hush-money-trial" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slated to testify</a> in a New York City hush-money trial about his role in facilitating payments to women who allegedly had affairs with Trump — claims the former president denied.
Trump, who is again running for re-election, faces 34 felony <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-indicted-on-34-felony-counts-of-conspiracy-falsifying-business-records-pleads-not-guilty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">counts</a> of falsifying business records to allegedly cover up the payments in a bid to conceal damaging information as part of a <a href="https://manhattanda.org/district-attorney-bragg-announces-34-count-felony-indictment-of-former-president-donald-j-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“catch and kill”</a> scheme to influence the 2016 election. He has pleaded not guilty and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-blasts-hush-money-case-ahead-of-jury-selection-attack-on-america" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criticized</a> what he says is a &#8220;political persecution.&#8221;
Stefanik and Turner contend that evidence shows Cohen may have made false statements while testifying under oath to the House Intelligence Committee in February 2019. They point to Cohen&#8217;s testimony in Trump&#8217;s New York civil fraud trial in October of 2023 as cause for a perjury inquiry.
&#8220;Mr. Cohen was asked if he was honest during his testimony before the Committee in February 2019. In response, Mr. Cohen stated, &#8216;No.&#8217; When asked if he lied under oath in February 2019 before the Committee, Mr. Cohen stated, &#8216;Yes,'&#8221; their letter said.
Due to a lack of a response by the DOJ, Stefanik and Turner suggested, the agency is actively working to &#8220;help&#8221; President Joe Biden, who is also running for a second term, and &#8220;hurt&#8221; Trump.
&#8220;We urge you to stop politicizing and weaponizing the Biden Justice Department — and open a criminal investigation into whether Mr. Cohen committed perjury and knowingly made false statements to the Committee during his testimony in February 2019,&#8221; they added.
A DOJ spokesperson told The Daily Wire the agency confirmed receipt of the letter but declined to comment further.
When Stefanik and Turner first sent their criminal referral in November, Cohen <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/11/14/trump-allies-michael-cohen-perjury-00127060" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released a statement</a> accusing the lawmakers of doing Trump&#8217;s &#8220;bidding in witness tampering and obstructing justice,&#8221; according to POLITICO.
They &#8220;fail to understand the distinction between explicit and implied; which is how the question was asked and accurately responded to. The topic was further clarified several questions thereafter; which is conveniently and intentionally being ignored. I am not concerned at all with their baseless request,&#8221; Cohen added.
Stefanik, who is seen as a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trumps-potential-vp-picks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">contender</a> to be Trump&#8217;s vice presidential running mate, announced on Tuesday that she had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elise-stefanik-accuses-special-counsel-jack-smith-of-election-interference-in-ethics-complaint" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed an ethics complaint</a> with the DOJ against special counsel Jack Smith, who is leading two other criminal cases against Trump.
