Vice President JD Vance conceded to a major parenting fail at a Monday rally appearance in Rome, New York.
Vance, along with President Donald Trump, was in the Empire State to help give a boost to Republican candidates ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections — Anthony Constantino, who hopes to fill the seat left by outgoing Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY); and Kailee Buller, who is challenging incumbent Rep. John Mannion (D-NY).
The vice president opened his remarks with a story about his family, as he often does, and recounted what happened when he instructed his children to go through their belongings and find toys to donate to others.
“‘I’d like you to identify maybe a couple of toys you’d like to donate here,'” he told his daughter, who will turn five in December. “So she brings me two of her brother’s toys!”
The crowd laughed as Vance hung his head, adding, “I realized that despite my best efforts, ladies and gentlemen, I have apparently raised a Democrat … stealing her brother’s toys to give to somebody else.”
The crowd roared, and Vance pivoted: “And that’s what we’ve got to do in just one day is beat the Democrats and win for America!”
The vice president concluded his remarks with one last call for Republicans to get out and vote, saying, “We are fighting for people who love the United States of America, not those who hate it! Get out there and let them know that we are gonna send a message that America belongs to those who love it, not to those who hate it!”
In addition to every House seat, the state of New York will also elect a governor — either incumbent Kathy Hochul (D-NY) or Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman — and will decide between incumbent Letitia James (D-NY) and Republican challenger Samantha Komatireddy for attorney general.
