A federal judge appointed by former President Barack Obama on Friday dismissed human smuggling charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the suspected MS-13 gang member at the center of a deportation battle, according to court records.
U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw sided with Abrego Garcia, granting his motion to dismiss the charges and ruling that the prosecution&#8217;s motivation was &#8220;vindictive.&#8221; Crenshaw said the Trump administration&#8217;s case was politically motivated and only came about after Abrego Garcia fought his deportation.
&#8220;The Court does not reach its conclusion lightly,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;The objective evidence here shows that, absent Abrego’s successful lawsuit challenging his removal to El Salvador, the Government would not have brought this prosecution.&#8221;
The Trump administration had previously deported Abrego Garcia to his native country of El Salvador in March, later acknowledging the removal was carried out in an &#8220;administrative error.&#8221;
Federal authorities brought him back to the United States in June on human smuggling charges tied to a December 2022 Tennessee traffic stop, during which state troopers pulled him over while he was transporting eight others from Texas to Maryland.
Officers said they became suspicious after noticing the group had no luggage in the car despite being on the road for days. Law enforcement said the situation looked like “a human trafficking incident.”
Abrego Garcia was ultimately released at the time with only a warning citation for driving with an expired license.
Judge Crenshaw said federal investigators had effectively closed the case before reopening it only after Abrego Garcia challenged his deportation.
&#8220;Only after Abrego succeeded in vindicating his rights did the Executive Branch reopen that investigation,&#8221; he wrote.
The suspected gangbanger became the darling of many Democratic lawmakers fighting President Donald Trump&#8217;s mass deportation effort.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) traveled to El Salvador, where he met with Abrego Garcia before he was returned to the United States.
Another federal judge ordered Abrego Garcia&#8217;s release from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Pennsylvania in December.
Abrego Garcia entered the United States illegally in 2011 and was later identified by the administration as an MS-13 member.
His wife, who has been advocating for his innocence, accused him of beating her in two separate court filings.
The Salvadoran national previously pleaded not guilty to the now-dismissed charges, <a href="https://abcnews.com/US/federal-judge-dismisses-tennessee-criminal-case-kilmar-abrego/story?id=133232491" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to ABC News.

FBI Director Kash Patel ratcheted up his fight with Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen on Tuesday, posting on social media an expensive tab run up by the Democrat senator’s campaign at a swanky bar in Washington, D.C.

“The only person that ran up a $7,000 bar tab in Washington, D.C., at the Lobby Bar was you. The only individual in this room that has been drinking on the taxpayer dime during the day is you,” Patel said during the hearing.

A spokesman for Van Hollen <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/kash-patel-chris-van-hollen-trade-alcohol-allegations-senate-hearing-rcna344804">told</a> NBC that “this was a catering charge at a local restaurant where the Senator hosted an after-hours holiday reception as a thank you to the 50+ members of our team, paid for by campaign funds — not taxpayer dollars.”
During Tuesday’s hearing, Van Hollen attacked Patel over allegations of drinking on the job. 
“Director Patel, these reports about your conduct, including reports of your being so drunk and hungover that your staff had to force entry into your home, are extremely alarming,” Van Hollen said.
“So, there have been no occasions when your security detail had difficulty waking or locating you?” Van Hollen asked Patel.
“Nope, it’s a total farce. I don’t even know where you get this stuff, but it doesn’t make it credible, because you say so,” Patel fired back. 
Patel filed a defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic over its report featuring anonymous sources accusing the FBI director of having a drinking problem. In response to Van Hollen’s accusations, Patel hit back by pointing to a photo posted by El Salavador President Nayib Bukele <a href="https://x.com/nayibbukele/status/1913028548001923259">showing</a> the Democrat senator seated next to accused MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia at a table with what appear to be margaritas.
Bukele captioned the photo by saying that Abrego Garica was “sipping margaritas with Sen. Van Hollen in the tropical paradise of El Salvador.”

“Unlike your baseless reports, the only person that was slinging margaritas in El Salvador on the taxpayer dollar with a convicted gang-banging rapist was you,” Patel said. 
Both Patel and Van Hollen challenged each other to take sobriety tests during the hearing.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) swept up a woman believed to be an MS-13 killer, who was hiding in a Washington, D.C., suburb.
Idalia Isabel Morales-Mejia, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, was wanted in her home country over charges of aggravated homicide and illicit associations before she was nabbed, <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/meet-one-medias-non-criminals-ice-washington-arrests-another-illegal-alien-fugitive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to ICE. Authorities in El Salvador notified ICE in February that they believed Morales-Mejia was in Northern Virginia.
The Salvadoran woman was charged with her alleged crimes in 2013, ICE said.
Once ICE officers learned of her possible presence in the area, they began looking for her. They eventually caught her in Woodbridge.
On March 12, ICE arrested her in Woodbridge, the agency said.
“Idalia Isabel Morales-Mejia is not only a known associate of the notorious MS-13 transnational criminal organization, but she apparently attempted to flee justice in her native country by illegally residing in Virginia,” ICE Washington, D.C. Field Office Director Robert Guadian said in a statement Thursday.
Guadian took aim at some members of the media who have criticized ICE for arresting illegal immigrants who lack any rap sheets. The ICE official said the narrative is all wrong.
“The media would consider her to be a ‘non-criminal’ because she has no known criminal history in the United States — despite the fact that she is facing charges for aggravated homicide in El Salvador. ICE Washington, D.C. will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing criminal alien offenders from our Washington, D.C. and Virginia communities,&#8221; Guadian said.
Morales-Mejia entered the United States as what&#8217;s known as a gotaway, meaning she crossed the border illegally without facing apprehension, ICE said. It is not known when exactly she entered the country.
Virginia has become a hub for illegal immigrant crime.
Another illegal immigrant from El Salvador, who was convicted of groping multiple female students at a Virginia high school, was sentenced Tuesday to just 360 days behind bars and two years of probation, <a href="https://katv.com/news/nation-world/illegal-immigrant-sentenced-groping-girls-fairfax-high-school-israel-flores-ortiz-sentencing-assault-groped-multiple-students-el-salvador-victim-courtroom-attorney-statements" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to 7News.
A Guatemalan illegal immigrant, Luzvin Orvando Garcia Moran, 28, allegedly tried to rape a woman as she was waiting for her rideshare in Arlington, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2026/04/15/ice-asks-governor-spanberger-and-virginia-sanctuary-politicians-arlington-county" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Thursday.
Fairfax County, which notoriously operates as a sanctuary jurisdiction, has seen three murders tied to illegal immigrant suspects in 2026.

Democratic Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger has faced some of the blame after ending agreements between local authorities and ICE.
In a recent interview with 7News, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin called out Spanberger over the lack of &#8220;cooperation.&#8221;
&#8220;If we want to combat crime, which every law enforcement agency and every judge and every elected official should honestly all be on the side of fighting crime and making our streets safe, and we&#8217;re not seeing that under the current leadership,&#8221; Mullin said.

There is some good news on immigration.
CBS News published a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/immigration-detention-voluntary-departures-record-high/">new report</a> on the rise of self-deportations.
As you know, CBS has made a move closer to the center. Historically, CBS has been a pretty left-wing news source that is until the hiring of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief. Bari is more center-Left. She’s not center-Right and she&#8217;s not a conservative in any way. But she is far more reasonable than her predecessors.
Well, CBS has a story on a record number of illegal-alien detainees giving up their cases and voluntarily leaving the country, and that figure only appears to be climbing.

Here we have the percentage of detained cases that end in voluntary removal — illegal immigrants who receive due process and then say, you know what, whatever, I give up, I&#8217;m going back to Venezuela.
As you can see from the chart, it started in 1985 with around 6 or 7%. Then, by the end of the Reagan era, it jumped to 19%.
But then, after Reagan amnesty, it all goes way, way down. By the ’90s you&#8217;re looking at 3%, 2%, and it kind of hovers around there for a little while. We see more activity after Donald Trump’s first term, getting up to 21%. Then it starts to go back down as we have trouble enforcing the border. And then, when Trump gets reelected in 2024, it spikes again to 28%.
So last year president Trump formally removed something like 525,000 illegal aliens, which are much better numbers certainly than Joe Biden or even Barack Obama. If you will recall, liberals called Obama the “deporter-in-chief,” but that wasn’t entirely true because Obama was counting the illegals he turned away at the border, so he artificially inflated his numbers. In any case, 525,000 is a good start, however, we have something like 20 million illegals in the country.
The real story, though, is the number of self-deportations, a lot of people choosing to just leave the country.
Some people on the Right were skeptical of this. They didn&#8217;t totally believe it. But we&#8217;re seeing this verified in labor numbers. We&#8217;re seeing it come up in reports from think tanks. We&#8217;re now seeing this reported by CBS News: 28% of these detainees are just choosing to remove themselves. Again, those numbers are not included in the formal deportation totals, but that&#8217;s a pretty good number.

So why is this happening? 
Other people on the Right have criticized the White House for putting on a “show” of deportations but not really carrying them out.
So you put on the show — the “cruelty is the point” of these really cool edits that come out from the DHS and ICE social media accounts. Videos of them taking illegals to the ground and cuffing them up. Like the big show of force we see in Minneapolis, which the Left tried to fight Trump on. Ultimately, though, I think it was either a draw or Trump won because he got the locals to start handing over the criminals.
In any case, many people on the Right say, I don&#8217;t want the show, I want the deportations.
We all want more deportations. But the show is important.
Look at the wonderful leader of El Salvador, President Nayib Bukele. We send a lot of illegal aliens to El Salvador. When Bukele started rounding up the criminals in his country — face-tattooed gangsters, in some cases Satan-worshiping gangsters — when he started doing that, he didn&#8217;t just kind of do it quietly. He made these great videos absolutely humiliating these people. He even made videos of destroying the graves of their members and family members, going in with sledgehammers and smashing their gravestones and treating these people like cockroaches and sending a message.
And the message was heard because El Salvador went from being the most dangerous country in the Western Hemisphere to one of the safest. Very impressive.
The flamboyance was the point.
Sometimes the libs say the cruelty is the point, as if Republicans are just sadists or something. No, cruelty is not the point. We don&#8217;t want to be cruel. We don&#8217;t want to be unjust. But the flamboyance is the point. The showmanship is the point. It serves a practical, strategic purpose.
When you have videos of ICE agents showing up and getting a little rough with people — totally within the confines of the law, but a little rough — that sends a message. When you show leftists trying to attack ICE by driving their cars into agents — and the agents finally protecting themselves, following the law and shooting back — that sends a message. And the law is a real teacher.
So then the question becomes: Well, is the flamboyance really paying off, or is it just a way to mollify conservatives who aren&#8217;t getting enough deportations?
The numbers are pretty clear here and they are resulting in self-deportations, in people voluntarily leaving.

El Salvador&#8217;s President Nayib Bukele, who came to power in 2019 and is now serving a second term which critics have called unconstitutional, said he was open to staying in power for another decade.
&#8220;If it were up to me, I would stay for 10 more years,&#8221; Bukele said in a video interview published by Spanish YouTuber TheGrefg on Monday. He noted that he had initially agreed with his wife that he would leave politics in 2029.
El Salvador is expected to hold its next presidential election in 2027, to decide who will run the country through to 2033.
Bukele will be eligible to run for a third term, after the ruling party-controlled Congress pushed through a constitutional reform in July to abolish term limits, bring forward the next election and extend presidential terms from five to six years.
Legal experts at home and abroad have questioned the legality of Bukele&#8217;s attempts to extend his term. The country&#8217;s constitution prohibits presidents&#8217; consecutive reelection in at least six of its articles.

Early in 2024, Bukele won his second term with a landslide victory despite a constitutional ban.
The wildly popular 44-year-old publicist enjoys some of the world&#8217;s highest approval ratings thanks to a hardline approach to crime which has helped drastically reduce murder rates.
Critics say this has come at the expense of civil rights and people have been arbitrarily detained, tortured and even killed in custody.
Bukele, who once described himself on his Twitter account as &#8220;the world&#8217;s coolest dictator,&#8221; said he did not plan to establish a dictatorship in El Salvador and it would be up to Salvadorans to decide whether he should continue in power.

The twice-failed presidential candidate shared a video after CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss pulled a story on the prison, promising a look at what was really going on.
&#8220;Curious to learn more about CECOT? Hear Juan, Andry, and Wilmer share firsthand how the Trump administration branded them as gang members without evidence and deported them to the brutal El Salvadoran prison,&#8221; Clinton <a href="https://x.com/HillaryClinton/status/2003137309072580799">posted</a>. The video she shared, originally from PBS News, interviewed three Venezuelan men who had been deported to the prison by President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration.
Salvadoran President Bukele responded to Clinton with a lengthy post of his own and proposed a trade-off: &#8220;Madam Secretary Hillary Clinton, If you are convinced that torture is taking place at CECOT, El Salvador is ready to cooperate fully,&#8221; Bukele began in his <a href="https://x.com/nayibbukele/status/2003586690288660789">response</a>. &#8220;We are willing to release our entire prison population (including all gang leaders and all those described as &#8216;political prisoners&#8217;) to any country willing to receive them. The only condition is straightforward: it must be everyone.&#8221;

&#8220;This would also greatly assist journalists and your favorite NGOs, who would then have thousands of former inmates available for interviews, making it far easier to find additional voices critical of the Salvadoran government (or willing to confirm whatever conclusions are already expected),&#8221; Bukele continued. &#8220;Surely, if these testimonies reflect a systemic reality, a much larger pool of sources should only reinforce the claim, and many governments should be eager to offer protection.&#8221;
His conclusion was simple: &#8220;Until then, we will continue prioritizing the human rights of the millions of Salvadorans who today live free from gang rule. Respectfully, Nayib Bukele.&#8221;
A number of others also responded to Clinton&#8217;s post, with some referencing the fact that when she was First Lady, her husband — then-President Bill Clinton — had played a role in <a href="https://x.com/HerbertEsmahan/status/2003788400323862735">deporting</a> Salvadoran gang members back to El Salvador en masse.
Many of those <a href="https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/how-the-u-s-fueled-the-rise-of-ms-13/">Salvadoran criminals</a> — who had come to the United States as their country was being torn apart by civil war — formed MS-13 in Los Angeles. When the Clinton administration first expanded the list of crimes that could result in deportation and then began deporting MS-13 members in large numbers, the still-rebuilding Salvadoran government was unable to handle the overwhelming number of gang members being dropped at their doorstep.

In a five-point memo sent to CBS News staff on Sunday, Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss laid out each of her reasons for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-news-pulls-60-minutes-segment-on-notorious-el-salvador-prison-needed-additional-reporting">postponing</a> a &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; segment on the Salvadoran prison where the Trump administration has sent hundreds of illegal immigrants.
Weiss prevented the segment on El Salvador&#8217;s CECOT prison from airing on Sunday over concerns that the piece lacked important information, such as &#8220;the Trump administration&#8217;s argument for why it sent 252 Venezuelans to CECOT.&#8221;
The segment, spearheaded by CBS News journalist Sharyn Alfonsi, focused on interviews with some of the illegal immigrants who were sent to CECOT and have since been released. After Weiss pulled the story from Sunday&#8217;s lineup, Alfonsi claimed that it was for &#8220;political&#8221; reasons, arguing that if they hold a story because the government has not commented on it, they are becoming a “stenographer for the state.”
Weiss, however, argued that the segment did not attempt to go deep enough to present its viewers &#8220;with the full context they need to assess the story.&#8221; In the first point her <a href="https://x.com/thesimonetti/status/2003142908854313225">memo</a>, Weiss argued that other legacy media networks had already extensively covered the &#8220;horrific conditions&#8221; at the Salvadoran prison and CBS News needed to do more to &#8220;advance&#8221; the story to justify a &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; segment.
&#8220;Last month, many outlets, most notably The New York Times, exposed the horrific conditions at CECOT. &#8220;At present, we do not present the administration’s argument for why it sent 252 Venezuelans to CECOT. What we have is Karoline Leavitt’s soundbite claiming they are evildoers in America (rapists, murderers, etc.). But isn’t there much more to ask in light of the torture that we are revealing?&#8221; Weiss asked. &#8220;Tom Homan and Stephen Miller don’t tend to be shy. I realize we’ve emailed the DHS spox, but we need to push much harder to get these principals on the record.&#8221;

In her third point, Weiss criticized one of the angles of the &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; segment, arguing that it focuses too much on the illegal immigrants sent to CECOT who do not have criminal histories and not enough on the violent criminals who have been removed from America.
&#8220;The data we present paints an incongruent picture. Of the 252 Venezuelans sent to CECOT, we say nearly half have no criminal histories. In other words, more than half do have criminal histories. We should spend a beat explaining this,&#8221; Weiss said. &#8220;We then say that only 8 of the 252 have been sentenced in America for violent offenses. But what about charged? My point is that we should include as much as we can possibly know and understand about these individuals.&#8221;
Weiss also blasted the producers&#8217; decision to include analysis from students at the University of California, Berkeley, asking, &#8220;What does the analysis add?&#8221;
Weiss concluded by telling the staff that CBS News should better explain &#8220;the legal rationale by which the administration detained and deported these 252 Venezuelans to CECOT.&#8221;
&#8220;It’s not as simple as Trump invoking the Alien Enemies Act and being able to deport them immediately. And that isn’t the administration’s argument. The admin has argued in court that detainees are due &#8216;judicial review&#8217;—and we should explain this, with a voice arguing that Trump is exceeding his authority under the relevant statute, and another arguing that he’s operating within the bounds of his authority,&#8221; Weiss argued. &#8220;There’s a genuine debate here.&#8221;

A &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; segment on the notorious CECOT prison in El Salvador, where the Trump administration has sent hundreds of illegal immigrants, was postponed by CBS News on Sunday, sparking controversy within the newsroom now led by Bari Weiss.

Democrats and the legacy media have focused much of their criticism of Trump&#8217;s massive deportation operation on the Salvadoran prison, where Trump has sent planeloads of people. The prison is used by El Salvador&#8217;s right-wing president, Nayib Bukele, to hold violent gang members and drug traffickers. Earlier this year, Bukele agreed to take in illegal immigrants deported by the Trump administration and place them in CECOT.
Weiss, who became CBS News editor-in-chief in October, was concerned about apparent bias in the &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; CECOT piece and suggested adding an interview with a White House official, such as Stephen Miller, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/21/business/60-minutes-trump-bari-weiss.html">according</a> to The New York Times. In a statement on Sunday, Weiss said that it&#8217;s common to hold stories and segments that &#8220;lack sufficient context&#8221; or &#8220;are missing critical voices.&#8221; She added that she looks forward to airing the CECOT prison segment &#8220;when it&#8217;s ready.&#8221;
“My job is to make sure that all stories we publish are the best they can be,” she said.
Alfonsi, however, called the last-minute decision to pull the segment from Sunday&#8217;s show &#8220;political,&#8221; saying that the segment had already undergone extensive fact-checking and legal review.
“It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now, after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it is a political one,” Alfonsi wrote. The journalist said that they had reached out to the Trump administration for comment, arguing that if they hold a story because the government has not commented on it, they are becoming a &#8220;stenographer for the state.&#8221;

President Donald Trump secured &#8220;breakthrough trade deals&#8221; with Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador, and Guatemala, setting up &#8220;more streamlined market access&#8221; for the United States and its four Western Hemisphere partners, the White House announced on Thursday.
The deals include both economic and national security commitments, which the White House promises will give American companies greater access to the Central and South American markets. Under the deals, the Trump administration is expected to lower tariffs on some food products, which could lower the cost of items such as coffee and bananas, according to a senior Trump administration official, Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-remove-tariffs-some-products-ecuador-argentina-guatemala-el-salvador-2025-11-13/">reported</a>. The finalized frameworks for the deals are expected to be completed within the next two weeks.
The White House announced the new trade agreements shortly after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bessent-promises-major-food-import-moves-to-cut-grocery-prices-very-quickly">promised</a> that the administration was seeking to give Americans some relief at the grocery store. The deal with Argentina gives U.S. exporters &#8220;preferential market access&#8221; for &#8220;medicines, chemicals, machinery, information technology products, medical devices, motor vehicles, and a wide range of agricultural products.&#8221; Under the agreement, Argentina is expected to exempt beef from its 10% tariff on imports, allowing the U.S. cattle industry to ship beef to the South American country at a more affordable rate, a U.S. official told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/11/13/white-house-agrees-to-lower-some-tariffs-on-south-american-countries-00651456?cid=apn">POLITICO</a>. President Donald Trump had also considered allowing Argentina to export more beef to the United States, but the agreement does not appear to allow that, after Trump&#8217;s idea faced backlash from Congress and the U.S. cattle industry.
&#8220;Argentina has opened its market to U.S. live cattle, committed to allow market access for U.S. poultry within one year, and agreed not to restrict market access for products that use certain cheese and meat terms,&#8221; the White House <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/2025/11/joint-statement-on-framework-for-a-united-states-argentina-agreement-on-reciprocal-trade-and-investment/">said</a>.

A federal judge issued a ruling barring ICE from detaining suspected MS-13 member and illegal alien human smuggler Kilmar Abrego Garcia just as a different judge ruled the Salvadoran national could be released from the Tennessee jail as he awaits trial for human smuggling, teeing up his return to Maryland.
U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis of Maryland <a href="https://apnews.com/article/kilmar-abrego-garcia-deportation-ice-27fa028f2bcc7ceb6667963f1fb04c74?taid=6881385fe8f2b30001a6c6c1&amp;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&amp;utm_medium=AP&amp;utm_source=Twitter">ordered</a> the federal government to give three business days of notice before ICE could launch deportation proceedings against the previously-deported Salvadoran national, who was infamously branded as a “Maryland man” by his supporters and a slew of media talking heads.
The ruling prevents ICE from quickly detaining Abrego Garcia, who is now set to be released from the Tennessee jail due to a <a href="https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/kilmar-abrego-garcia-released-ice-deportation-b2794764.html">separate ruling</a> from a Tennessee judge. The illegal alien will not be released immediately, however, as an additional judge must consider a request by Abrego Garcia to delay his release by 30 days.
The dual rulings facilitate the Salvadoran illegal alien’s return to Maryland, where he lived before his removal to El Salvador by the Trump administration. Once back in Maryland, he will be under federal supervision, and ICE will have to restart Abrego Garcia’s immigration proceedings, providing a 72-hour notice before his deportation.
ICE previously indicated that it would detain and deport Abrego Garcia if he were released from prison, as he stands trial for charges in connection with an alleged human smuggling operation in which the Salvadoran illegal alien is accused of trafficking children and MS-13 members throughout the interior of the United States.
If removed, Abrego Garcia is likely to be sent to a willing “third country,” a nation other than his nation of origin that agrees to receive him.
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin responded to the ruling in a series of posts on X.
“The facts remain: this MS-13 gang member, human trafficker and criminal illegal alien will never walk America’s streets again,” McLaughlin <a href="https://x.com/TriciaOhio/status/1948095425459761224">first said</a> after the ruling. “The fact this unhinged judge is trying to tell ICE they can’t arrest an MS-13 gang member, indicted by a grand jury for human trafficking, and subject to immigration arrest under federal law is LAWLESS AND INSANE,” she said in <a href="https://x.com/TriciaOhio/status/1948104840896266500">another post</a>.
Among Abrego Garcia’s most vocal supporters is CASA, a group that received funding from the Biden administration as it advocated for illegal aliens and called for ICE to be abolished. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-admin-fights-deport-convicted-murderer-shielded-biden-era-torture-protection">arrested</a> Alexander Alfredo Palacios Guevara, an illegal alien, in Los Angeles, but the federal agency found that it might not have the authority to deport him back to El Salvador due to a Biden-era legal decision.
Guevara was granted a deportation protection order in December 2024 as the Biden administration was nearing an end after he claimed he was at risk of being tortured if he was returned to his homeland.
“A highly unusual Biden-era legal decision from December allowed this dangerous criminal to live in American communities,” an ICE spokesman <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-admin-fights-deport-convicted-murderer-shielded-biden-era-torture-protection">told Fox News</a> before also laying out Guevara’s criminal history. “This criminal alien should never have been roaming the streets of Los Angeles. Not only is he a member of the ruthless Surenos gang, but he also has multiple convictions for murder, assault and rape or sexual abuse of a minor.”
Guevara, who was given a Deferral of Removal under the Convention Against Torture (CAT), was briefly released by ICE, though the law enforcement agency recaptured him just a day later due to the risk he poses to the public.
The criminal alien now sits in ICE custody as a legal battle that could decide Guevara’s fate makes its way to the Supreme Court.
The Trump administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-deports-murderers-and-rapists-to-south-sudan-but-judge-might-order-their-return-to-u-s">deported</a> several violent criminal illegal aliens, including Cuban and Vietnamese nationals, to South Sudan last month. The deportation flight was arranged with the African country after the illegal aliens’ home countries were unwilling to take them back. The flight was swiftly challenged in court, with a U.S. district judge ruling that the Trump administration must maintain custody over the illegal aliens in order to “ensure the practical feasibility of return if the Court finds that such removals were unlawful.”
The Trump administration has <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/28/south-sudan-flights-trump-supreme-court">asked</a> the Supreme Court to weigh in on the case. If the administration wins, Guevara could be deported to a “third country” willing to accept deportees.

Looking back on it, one of the most important moments from the last election had nothing to do with Donald Trump or Kamala Harris. In fact it had nothing to do with this country at all. It was the unilateral decision by the president of El Salvador to transform his country, virtually overnight, from a gang-controlled failed state into one of the safest places on the planet. This wasn&#8217;t an empty campaign promise or a slogan. He actually did it, despite the wailing from various civil liberties groups.
In 2015, El Salvador recorded more than 6,000 homicides.
Throughout all of last year, they recorded just over 100 homicides.
By all accounts, in just a few years, El Salvador managed to solve a crime problem that, according to all the experts, could not be solved.
To everyone living in America&#8217;s rotted-out urban centers, overrun border towns and poor communities in Appalachia, the transformation of El Salvador was meaningful. It wasn&#8217;t your typical foreign news story with no interest to everyday people. It wasn&#8217;t the equivalent of wall-to-wall coverage about the latest developments taking place 7,000 miles away in the Middle East.
What Bukele did to save El Salvador, very clearly, sent the message to every American that the same kind of revival is possible in this country. All of the barriers you hear about are fake. None of the roadblocks are real. Places like Seattle, New York and Los Angeles aren&#8217;t actually beyond saving, no matter how dire things look. All it takes is an executive who&#8217;s willing to punish criminals without any remorse whatsoever. Once a country has an executive like that, things can change. And they can change very quickly.
Less than six months into the second Trump administration, we&#8217;re seeing another illustration of this principle. Throughout the campaign, as you might remember, we were told repeatedly that the unrestricted flow of illegal aliens into this country was a very difficult problem to solve. We were told that, in order to even begin to address the issue, we&#8217;d need to pass a law that would send billions of dollars to federal government agencies and various NGOs. That was the claim every Democrat — and several Republicans — were making. As much as I understand that no human being ever wants to hear the words &#8220;Kamala Harris&#8221; ever again, this was also a big part of her platform. During the debate, it was her &#8220;big idea&#8221; for supposedly fixing the border. If you can bear it, here&#8217;s that moment again:

Less than a year later, let&#8217;s check in on this whole line of argument. How is the border doing, now that Donald Trump is the president of the United States? Without a multi-billion-dollar &#8220;border bill,&#8221; how much could his administration possibly have accomplished?
As it turns out — even with every federal judge in the country working in tandem to block his agenda, and even without an expensive border bill passed by Congress — the administration has accomplished quite a bit. They&#8217;ve done what we were told was impossible, many times over. The southern border, which until very recently was a completely unsalvageable mess, is now more secure than it&#8217;s been at any time in generations.
Here&#8217;s CBS News, of all places, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/migrant-crossings-u-s-mexico-border-historically-low-levels/">reporting</a> on the progress:
<blockquote>The number of migrants crossing the U.S. southern border unlawfully continued to be at a historically low level in April, three full months into President Trump&#8217;s aggressive efforts to curtail illegal immigration, according to internal federal data. &#8230; The number of illegal crossings during Mr. Trump&#8217;s first three full months in office represents a seismic change at the U.S.-Mexico border. The apprehensions reported in February, March and April are the lowest tallies recorded by the Border Patrol in its public monthly dataset, which stretches back to fiscal year 2000. The last time Border Patrol averaged fewer than 9,000 monthly apprehensions along the southern border over a year was in the late 1960s, according to historical agency figures.</blockquote>
In other words, according to arrest data stretching back 25 years — which is the extent of the data we have collected — a record-low number of illegal aliens are currently attempting to cross the border. Donald Trump, in his second term, has achieved a more secure border than Bush, Obama, and the first Trump administration did. And he&#8217;s still going. We&#8217;re on pace for the lowest number of illegal aliens being apprehended at the border since the 1960s, at which point the data becomes so imprecise that we have no real way of going further back.

All it took was an executive who authorized federal officers to enforce immigration law, both at the border and throughout the country. Once that happened, the inflow of illegal aliens stopped as quickly as it began.. Here&#8217;s a chart that CBS included in their story, which highlights just how drastic the decline in illegal migration has been:

You&#8217;ll notice there&#8217;s a massive, unprecedented spike in illegal migration right when Joe Biden takes over. And then, just as quickly, the Trump administration ends it. Look at that drop. It&#8217;s almost unbelievable. It demonstrates that, no, this was not a complicated or difficult issue to solve. And that makes the refusal to solve this problem, by every president until now, seem all the more nefarious.
To be clear, the only reason we&#8217;re seeing these reductions in apprehensions at the border is because the illegal aliens have gotten the message that the Trump administration is serious about immigration enforcement. Therefore they&#8217;ve stopped trying to enter this country. They understand that, when they&#8217;re caught, they won&#8217;t be allowed into the United States anymore, which is what the Biden administration did in virtually every case.
The New York Post just <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/17/us-news/border-agents-didnt-release-a-single-illegal-migrant-into-the-us-last-month-border-patrol/">obtained data</a> demonstrating just how common &#8220;catch and release&#8221; used to be, under the previous administration. These are some of the more extraordinary figures you&#8217;ll ever hear.
<blockquote>Border Patrol agents didn’t release a single migrant into the US last month — a staggering drop after the Biden administration allowed 62,000 illegal crossers in the country in May 2024. &#8230; Agents caught 8,725 migrants crossing illegally at the southern border last month. That’s a 93% decrease from May 2024, when 117,905 were nabbed. &#8230; One of the most monumental policy changes made by Trump was the reversal of President Joe Biden’s catch-and-release scheme, which resulted in millions of illegal border jumpers being allowed into the US.</blockquote>
To restate, in May of 2024, the Biden administration deliberately allowed 62,000 illegal aliens into the country. That&#8217;s 62,000 illegal aliens in just one month, meaning they were on pace to allow more illegal aliens into this country in one year than the entire population of San Francisco. By contrast, this past May, the Trump administration did not deliberately allow a single detained illegal immigrant into this country. They took the number from 62,000 all the way to zero, which of course is what the number should&#8217;ve been all along. There is no reason whatsoever to allow a criminal alien to enter the country, because once you do that, you&#8217;ll never see them again — at least, not until they commit some heinous act of violence against an American citizen. Of course, the Biden administration knew that. That&#8217;s why they did it. And now that policy is over, so we&#8217;re seeing immediate results.
This is obviously a major victory, on par with what Bukele did in El Salvador. But it&#8217;s not a total victory, even though the numbers make it look like one. That&#8217;s because, as we&#8217;ve discussed previously, illegal immigration isn&#8217;t the only immigration problem we have. Like other countries, including Canada, we&#8217;ve given legal status to a large number of foreign nationals who despise this country. Which means even legal immigration is a problem that needs to be fixed. In fact, legal immigration needs to be shut down entirely, at least for now.
More than pretty much anyone else, Ilhan Omar is a walking justification for this policy. As if to prove my point, Omar recently announced that America — the country that rescued her from life of certain poverty, despair and ultimately death in Somalia — is actually one of the worst countries on the planet. This is a woman who, because of the generosity of the United States and its immigration policy, is now a sitting member of Congress, living a life that&#8217;s unimaginable to many Americans, to say nothing of virtually everyone living in Somalia. But here she is, announcing that actually, America is just about as bad as where she came from:

She&#8217;s willing to say, as part of her sob story, that she lived under a brutal dictatorship in Somalia. But she conveniently leaves out the fact that her father was a colonel in that dictator&#8217;s army. This is a regime that committed genocide and various human rights abuses as part of a communist-Islamist agenda. But Ilhan Omar forgot to mention any of that. And it&#8217;s an interesting omission, to say the least. It&#8217;s the kind of thing that might make you suspect that Ilhan Omar is an inherently dishonest person, and her whole family — and many other &#8220;refugees&#8221; like her — should never have been granted legal status in the first place.
And that&#8217;s not the only deception that&#8217;s evident in that interview. Notice what she&#8217;s doing there. She says that &#8220;this should be a wakeup call&#8221; for all Americans to feel a variety of patriotic sentiments about &#8220;the country we were born in&#8221; and the &#8220;founding fathers.&#8221; She&#8217;s trying to use American values against Americans. But she doesn&#8217;t actually share any of these values. Pretty much every time this woman opens her mouth, she&#8217;s attacking America, praising Somalia, and vowing to work on behalf of Somali interests from within the United States.
We&#8217;ve played the clips many times before. There hasn&#8217;t been a single moment in her political career where she&#8217;s expressed an ounce of pride in this country. And she certainly has never praised &#8220;the founding fathers,&#8221; who she regards as white supremacists whose statues should be torn down, and whose memories should be erased from history forever. But now, suddenly, she&#8217;s pretending to invoke the &#8220;founding fathers&#8221; to appeal to her constituents.
And again, she&#8217;s been given legal status to come to this country and say all of this. She&#8217;s now a naturalized citizen. And through it all, she keeps talking about Somalia. In fact she seems to want to go back there. This is a rough translation that&#8217;s <a href="https://x.com/EndWokeness/status/1753402969406451930">making the rounds</a> from a trip that Omar reportedly took to Somalia back in 2022. We&#8217;ll only play a small bit of the clip because it&#8217;s not in English. Watch:

According to the translation in the subtitles, she says, &#8220;I am a Somali girl… a young child taken from her country that misses her country and wishes to live there.”
You can dispute whether Ilhan Omar obtained her citizenship lawfully, and whether she&#8217;s subject to deportation on those grounds. But it really doesn&#8217;t matter. Very obviously, based on what she&#8217;s saying publicly, it&#8217;s clear that Ilhan Omar should not have been allowed into this country for any reason. She certainly should not have been made a citizen. She doesn&#8217;t offer anything to this country. And she never has. She is a shining example for why legal immigration needs to be drastically curtailed, now that the border is relatively secure.
Washington congresswoman Pramila Jayapal is yet another example. She came to this country from India as a teenager. And by her own admission, at no point did she have any interest in improving America for Americans. Instead, she immediately got to work opening the floodgates for the rest of the third-world to come here. Here&#8217;s what she <a href="https://x.com/PramilaJayapal/status/1934354981399798075">just wrote</a> on social media.
<blockquote>I came to this country when I was 16. I worked in immigration justice for 20 years before setting foot in Congress. I’ve spent my entire life defending immigrants – and I’m not backing down.</blockquote>
In other words, by allowing Pramila Jayapal to become a citizen, we didn&#8217;t get someone who was committed to a life of hard work that would improve the lives of American citizens in any way. She didn&#8217;t have any interest in contributing to her local community, or performing services for American citizens. Instead, she began working immediately on behalf of foreign nationals.
This is a self-perpetuating problem. It&#8217;s a death spiral. The more immigrants we allow into this country — even &#8220;legal&#8221; ones — the more immigrants we get. By and large, these people are not vetted. They openly despise this country from the second they arrive. And after they&#8217;ve used our resources for their benefit, their hatred doesn&#8217;t change. Instead, they work even harder to allow more of their countrymen into the United States, so that they, too, can reap the rewards. This system simply cannot last forever. It&#8217;s not simply immoral. It&#8217;s unsustainable. It only works as long as there are rewards to dish out. Once that happens — and this moment is rapidly approaching — the social safety net collapses for everyone, along with our economy.
The only way to prevent that outcome is for the Trump administration to follow-up on its success with illegal aliens by sharply reducing the number of lawful migrants into this country.
Democrats will claim it&#8217;s heartless to turn our back on &#8220;refugees&#8221; and so on. But all you really need to do is listen to most of these &#8220;refugees&#8221; and lawful immigrants speak for a few minutes, and you&#8217;ll see what&#8217;s necessary. They don&#8217;t typically sound like South Africans, who are grateful to be here. Instead they often sound like Ilhan Omar and Pramila Jayapal. They tell us how awful the United States is, and how desperately they want to return to Somalia. And at this point, as decisively as Donald Trump closed the southern border, we have no choice but to give these loathsome, anti-American foreign operatives exactly what they&#8217;re asking for.
