The Department of Homeland Security issued an unusually sharp and highly public rebuke of U.S. Senate candidate and former North Carolina Democratic Governor Roy Cooper after he criticized federal immigration enforcement operations in Charlotte. Cooper wrote on social media that while he supports using federal resources to deport violent offenders, he opposes “randomly sweeping up people based on what they look like,” warning that such tactics could leave dangerous criminals at large while harming families and the economy.

DHS immediately fired back, using its official X account to highlight the case of Jordan Renato Castillo-Chavez, a Costa Rican national whom North Carolina authorities had previously declined to transfer to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). DHS described Castillo-Chavez as a “criminal illegal alien” with a record that includes indecent liberties with a child, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and solicitation of a child via computer. The agency’s message to Cooper was pointed: “North Carolina refused to hand him over to ICE.”

Homeland Security broadened its criticism, arguing that Charlotte has become a hub for human trafficking and that “sanctuary politicians” in the state have enabled violent offenders to roam free. DHS asserted that terrorist groups and gangs exploit the region’s geography and highway networks, implicitly linking Cooper’s policies to increased vulnerability for residents.

Top DHS officials amplified the response. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin accused Cooper of refusing to turn over more than 1,400 violent criminal non-citizens to ICE during his governorship and rejected his claim of racial profiling as “absurd and devoid of fact.” She argued that releasing such offenders inevitably leads to further victimization.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, overseeing the enforcement surge known as Operation Charlotte’s Web, defended the operation’s focus on repeat offenders — robbers, assailants, and impaired drivers — insisting that local and state leaders should partner with DHS rather than criticize it.

DHS also announced that the sweep had already led to more than 130 arrests in its first two days, including 44 individuals with serious criminal histories. The agency framed its approach as a necessary corrective to what it characterized as years of non-cooperation from state officials.
“As governor, Cooper allowed [the] release of 3,500 inmates early to settle litigation with the NAACP,” The Center Square <a href="https://www.thecentersquare.com/north_carolina/article_cfcd1bfd-9a8c-4405-a3fa-73a515b0dd33.html">noted</a>. “He also vetoed legislation in 2019, 2022 and 2024 that would require local law enforcement to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
The DHS pushback drew support from North Carolina Republicans, who accused Cooper of <a href="https://x.com/RepMarkHarrisNC/status/1990866287996682495">misleading the public</a> about the immigration enforcement effort.

A hammer-wielding illegal immigrant with a rap sheet attacked a woman jogging on a path in Plano, Texas.
Mexican illegal immigrant Sergio Noe de Nova Duarte, 17, struck the female victim with the hammer while she was on a jog in Bob Woodruff Park on Thursday before fleeing the scene, local police said. He was later captured and charged with aggravated kidnapping and bodily injury.
The woman fought back as Duarte attacked her, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/texas/news/plano-woman-attacked-hammer-bob-woodruff-park/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to CBS News. She was later treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
&#8220;Given the nature of this incident and this attack, this could have gone so much worse,&#8221; Plano Police Detective Alexandra Cole said. &#8220;Luckily, she was brave enough to be able to fight her attacker off in order for this not to be an even more heinous crime than it already was.&#8221;
But it wasn&#8217;t Duarte&#8217;s first rodeo.
He was arrested last year for burglary and larceny, the Department of Homeland Security said Monday. Immigration and Customs Enforcement later took him into custody, but the Biden administration ultimately released him.
Now, the Trump administration is working to ensure he stays in custody.
“This criminal illegal alien should have never been loose in our communities to attack this woman jogging in a park with a hammer,” Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement Monday.
“Following this illegal alien’s arrest in 2024, the Biden administration released this criminal illegal alien back into our communities. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE lodged an arrest detainer to ensure this criminal illegal alien is NEVER able to prey on innocent women in our country again,&#8221; she said.
Duarte came to the United States on a B2 tourist visa in 2016, but failed to leave the country by the required date, according to Homeland Security.

From coast to coast, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue to nab illegal aliens convicted of vile crimes like murder and the sexual assault of young children.
The Department of Homeland Security on Monday shared a list with The Daily Wire of some of the “worst of the worst” picked up by ICE over the weekend. The list included those convicted from California to Florida, New York to Iowa, and Texas.
“While Americans were enjoying their weekend, ICE law enforcement officers were hard at work arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens across the country including convicted murderers, pedophiles, and rapists,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.
According to DHS, the list of those arrested included:

McLaughlin told The Daily Wire that the vast majority of illegal aliens detained by the Trump administration had other serious criminal convictions or charges.
“Our law enforcement officers are working around the clock to arrest criminal illegal aliens released into American neighborhoods by the Biden Administration,” she said. “Seventy percent of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the United States. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, America’s borders are closed to lawbreakers.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents descended upon Charlotte, North Carolina, over the weekend, arresting more than 130 illegal immigrants with criminal records ranging from aggravated assault to felony larceny, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The arrests were part of the Trump administration&#8217;s &#8220;<a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/11/15/dhs-launches-operation-charlottes-web-target-criminal-illegal-aliens-terrorizing">Charlotte&#8217;s Web</a>&#8221; operation, which began on Saturday and aims to find and detain illegal immigrants who have found sanctuary in the Democrat-run city. The Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire, &#8220;Border Patrol arrested over 130 illegal aliens who have all broken the immigration laws of our country.&#8221;
&#8220;Criminal records of those arrested include known gang membership, aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, felony larceny, simple assault, hit and run, possession of stolen goods, shoplifting, DUI, DWI, and illegal re-entry after prior deportation, a felony,&#8221; a DHS spokesman said. &#8220;We will not stop enforcing the laws of our nation until every criminal illegal alien is arrested and removed from our country.&#8221;
Across North Carolina, authorities have ignored nearly 1,400 immigration detainers and released violent illegal immigrants back onto the streets, according to the DHS.

DHS said that one law enforcement officer was injured during an operation over the weekend, when a U.S. citizen &#8220;weaponized his vehicle, driving a large van at law enforcement while they were conducting an operation.&#8221; The driver allegedly fled the scene, prompting a high-speed chase. The suspect, who has previous arrests for resisting law enforcement, public disturbance, and intoxication, was eventually taken into custody.

As Border Patrol began arresting suspected illegal immigrants in Charlotte, residents took to the streets to protest, demanding that the federal agents leave the city. Hundreds of protesters gathered on Saturday, carrying signs that read &#8220;Immigrants Make Charlotte Great,&#8221; &#8220;Kidnapping Immigrants Won&#8217;t Make America Great,&#8221; and &#8220;Charlotte Demands ICE and Border Patrol Out Of Our City!&#8221;
North Carolina Democratic Governor Josh Stein blasted the federal operation in a video statement.
&#8220;We&#8217;ve seen masked, heavily armed agents in paramilitary garb driving unmarked cars, targeting American citizens based on their skin color, racially profiling, and picking up random people in parking lots and off of our sidewalks,&#8221; Stein said.

Charlotte is the latest big city targeted by President Donald Trump, who is surging federal law enforcement and immigration agents to cities across the country to address illegal immigration and violent crime. Charlotte gained national attention earlier this year when Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was brutally stabbed to death while riding the city&#8217;s light rail train. Decarlos Brown Jr., an American citizen, was charged with Zarutska&#8217;s murder after he had previously been arrested 14 times.
Federal agents have also arrested hundreds of suspected illegal immigrants and violent criminals in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Memphis, and Portland.

‘Operation Charlotte’s Web’ Nets 130+ ‘Criminal Illegal Alien’ Arrests In First Weekend

On the final day of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continued to arrest the “worst of the worst,” the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire. 
Those arrested on Wednesday included men convicted of assault and other sexual offenses. ICE agents went without pay throughout the 43-day shutdown and continued to make arrests and carry out enforcement operations. 
“Thank you to every DHS team member for your dedication and resilience throughout the Democrats’ Shutdown — 43 days without pay for many of you — a hardship on your families. Your continued work and dedication to protecting our homeland are a testament to your patriotism,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said.  “You made America safer during the longest shutdown in American history.”

<li>Victor Manuel Mendoza-Garcia, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted on three counts of aggravated kidnapping/ransom in Cook County, Illinois.  </li>
<li>William Giovanni Lopez-Fuentes, an illegal alien from Guatemala, convicted of assault of a child in Sunbury, Pennsylvania.  </li>
<li>Hoang Huy Lu, an illegal alien from Vietnam, convicted of distribution of a controlled substance and dangerous drugs in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.</li>

“Thanks to law enforcement for their hard work during the government shutdown these monsters&#8211;including pedophiles, kidnappers, and drug traffickers&#8211;are out of our communities,” Noem said. “Thanks to President Trump, our government is open. ICE agents and other federal workers will again receive pay after eight Senate Democrats joined with Republicans to pass a bill that keeps the government funded until January 30. That came after a 43-day standoff where Democrats demanded that the funding package include new funding for Obamacare subsidies.

Topline: With the record-breaking shutdown leading to thousands of cancelled flights and government employees missing paychecks, cracks began to form over the weekend among Senate Democrats.
On Sunday night, the Senate took a major step toward ending the government shutdown with a procedural vote. The vote was to break the 60-vote filibuster threshold to proceed to the legislation necessary to reopen the government until the end of January.
As it stands, the deal would allow a separate vote on Obamacare subsidies in December, which deviates from the original push by Democrats to pass a continuing resolution with a stipulation in the bill that the subsidies would continue.
Dems in turmoil: The vote set off fireworks within the Democratic Party, as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and many other lawmakers sounded off against the move by moderate Democrats to make strides toward reopening without including the Obamacare subsidies in the spending bill. 
What’s next: The government is not reopened yet; the legislation still needs to make it through the Republican-majority House to reach President Donald Trump’s desk. Trump’s been leaning heavily into the issue, calling for the end of the filibuster as a nuclear option. 
View from the Oval: Trump has called on GOP lawmakers to abolish the Senate filibuster, which would allow them to pass a bill with a simple majority and end the shutdown themselves. 
“I am totally in favor of terminating the filibuster, and we would be back to work within 10 minutes after that vote took place, and lots of other good things would happen,” Trump <a href="https://x.com/NewsTreason/status/1986874156164476998">said</a> on Friday.
Trump went on to make clear that eliminating the filibuster is not just about forcing a budget vote and ending the shutdown. The president says it would also empower Republicans to codify his agenda, ensuring GOP success in the midterms next November. In a social media post over the weekend, he claimed Democrats were “cracking like dogs on the Shutdown because they are deathly afraid that I am making progress with the Republicans on TERMINATING THE FILIBUSTER!” 
But at the moment, in a rare sign of pushback against the White House, plenty of Senate Republicans are standing firm in their refusal to kill the filibuster.

Topline: Border Patrol agents were fired upon in Chicago over the weekend as federal officers continue to be targeted for carrying out immigration enforcement operations.
The Department of Homeland Security <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-violence-must-end-man-opens-fire-on-border-patrol-agents-in-chicago-chaos-erupts">said</a> Saturday that Border Patrol agents were working in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood “when an unknown male driving a black Jeep fired shots at agents and fled the scene.” Law enforcement has not yet nabbed a suspect.
The agents then had a run-in with agitators who “threw a paint can and bricks at Border Patrol’s vehicles.” Reports and videos that circulated online showed people yelling obscenities at agents, walking around with whistles, and getting in their way. Chicago police were brought in to assist the agents and clear the scene. At least a few arrests were made during the chaos.
Chicago PD’s appearance is a change from last month, when ICE agents were surrounded by a hostile crowd and local officers were reportedly told to stand down. Those ICE agents were left to deal with the mob alone.
According to Homeland Security, “This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of violence and obstruction.” The department further noted that threats have increased over the past two months.
National Guard: Citing violence like in Chicago, Trump has attempted to send National Guard troops into some jurisdictions, but has been blocked by the courts. Despite that, there have been some sightings of National Guardsmen around Chicago, however.
The situation is the same in Portland, where protests have happened regularly outside ICE facilities. The latest court ruling came on Friday, when a federal judge in Oregon permanently <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/judge-permanently-bars-trump-deploying-national-guard-troops-portland-rcna236421" target="_blank" rel="noopener">banned</a> the president from stationing National Guard troops in Portland. That order could, however, be overturned by the Supreme Court.
Hawaii bust: Meanwhile, immigration agents have continued mass raids to sweep up illegal aliens. In Hawaii, immigration officers <a href="https://x.com/Breaking911/status/1987581709945340097">arrested</a> dozens, including two suspected Tren de Aragua members, in a raid on the island of Kauai, according to the Kauai County Facebook page. 
According to <a href="https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/11/07/immigration-raid-targets-cleaning-company-employees-months-after-wage-settlement/">Hawaii News Now</a>, all those arrested were employees at Hawaii Care and Cleaning. The same company, back in January, agreed to pay $3.8 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the Department of Labor.

Topline: President Trump is set to meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Monday. Ahead of the meeting, faith leaders sent a letter to Trump asking him to continue his defense of persecuted Christians and other religious minorities. 
Morning Wire spoke to Victoria Coates, former deputy national security advisor to Trump and a foreign policy expert at The Heritage Foundation, for more on the scheduled meeting between Syria’s leader and the U.S. president. (The following interview has been edited.)
Morning Wire: The visit comes just after the U.S. lifted sanctions on al-Sharaa and removed a global terror designation on him. Why did the Trump administration feel this was appropriate?
Coates: Well, while not really rising to the heights of a country like North Korea or Iran, Syria has been historically one of the most sanctioned countries on the planet for good reason. Former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad committed egregious hostilities against his own people, which earned him the Caesar Act, an act of Congress that sanctions those things. Al-Sharaa was specifically sanctioned for his participation in ISIS, which remains, obviously, a special designated terrorist group and a foreign terrorist organization, as well as Al Qaeda, which remains in the same camp. Those designations remain on those groups, but they&#8217;re loosening the sanctions on [al-Sharaa] personally, which is why he could come to New York in September and Washington now.
Morning Wire: Do you see any progress on protecting Christians and other religious minorities in Syria and the Middle East more broadly?
Coates: Well, hopefully, yes. When I was in the Middle East, when this all went down in Syria a little more than a year ago, there was enormous concern from the Israelis about the Druze population in southern Syria, from the Emiratis and other Gulf allies about what might happen. And so Syria, a little bit like Lebanon, is kind of a made-up country – with apologies to any Syrians who may be listening – in that it is an amalgamation of these different groups. And you do have a dominant Muslim majority, but the others have been endangered historically. I think that is very well taken from the faith leaders and hopefully the president will be very strong on this and convince al-Sharaa this is a priority for the United States.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on Tuesday arrested an illegal alien from Africa with over three dozen previous arrests and eight felony convictions, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire. 
As Senate Democrats voted for a 14th time to block the reopening of the government, ICE agents arrested Marcelin Charles Gbey Gouley, an illegal alien from the Ivory Coast. Gouley has been arrested 39 times and has been convicted of eight felonies, according to DHS. 
The convictions have been on cocaine trafficking, possession of controlled substances, drug manufacturing and distribution, and drug possession in Florida, Maryland, and Virginia.

“ICE is on a mission to remove criminal illegal aliens from terrorizing American communities and fulfilling President Trump’s promise to make America safe again,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.
DHS also highlighted another “worst of the worst” batch of illegal aliens ICE arrested on Tuesday, including:

<li>Juan Pablo Martinez-Herrera, an illegal alien from Mexico convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years with force in Los Angeles, California</li>
<li>Jose Luis Tomalo-Viracucha, an illegal alien from Ecuador, convicted of attempted assault and aggravated sexual abuse in Monticello, New York</li>
<li>Adrian Perez-Vallejo, an illegal alien from Mexico convicted of aggravated kidnapping in Smith County, Texas</li>
<li>Javier Sanchez, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted of carjacking and taking a vehicle without owner consent in Los Angeles, California</li>
</ul>
“Yesterday, ICE arrested pedophiles, kidnappers, and drug traffickers from American neighborhoods,” said McLaughlin. “Our law enforcement officers will let nothing stop them from removing the worst of the worst, including the Democrats’ government shutdown or even an 8,000% increase in death threats against them.”
The Trump administration says that it is on pace to deport around 600,000 illegal aliens by the end of his first year in office. DHS says that an additional 1.6 million have voluntarily self-deported since Trump took office.

&#8220;I think they haven’t gone far enough because we’ve been held back by the judges, by the liberal judges that were put in by Biden and by Obama,” Trump said during an interview on &#8220;60 Minutes.&#8221; &#8220;You have to get the people out. You know, you have to look at the people. Many of them are murderers. Many of them are people that were thrown out of their countries because they were, you know, criminals.&#8221;

One of the most common questions I get as the CEO of Our Rescue is: “Does child exploitation and sex trafficking really happen here?” 
I often reply, if you ask any law enforcement officer working sex trafficking and child exploitation cases, they’ll tell you the same thing: “The biggest mistake people make is thinking this crime doesn’t happen at home, in our communities, in the United States. It does. And it’s everywhere.”
Worldwide, there are nearly 50 million people trapped in modern slavery, according to the International Labor Organization. In 2024, the Global Tips Report showed that the number of children being trafficked had increased 31% in 2022 compared to 2019, with a 38% rise recorded for girls. Before I joined Our Rescue, I spent my career at Homeland Security Investigations — leading complex efforts to combat human trafficking and child exploitation and spearheading the creation of the DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking, the first unified, inter-agency coordination center dedicated to combating trafficking in all forms. And I can tell you, everyday law enforcement officers uncover cases of children and adults being groomed, recruited, coerced, or even sold in our own communities. The victims are not just statistics; they are neighbors, classmates, and children whose lives are being stolen in plain sight.
But beyond these trafficking cases, another fast-growing threat is here in the U.S. — the online sexual exploitation of children. Technology has opened new frontiers for predators and organized criminal groups, making it easier than ever to target American kids in their own homes.

The scale of child sexual exploitation in the United States is staggering. In 2024 alone, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline received over 20.5 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation. These reports included more than 62.9 million files of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). This is not just a statistic; it represents real images, videos, and other materials depicting children enduring unimaginable harm.
Mike Prado, who heads the Cyber Crimes Center (C3) at Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), put it plainly: “This is no longer just about lone offenders. Today, organized criminal groups overseas are running sextortion schemes that deliberately target American children for profit.” Operations out of places like West Africa have pushed kids in America into such despair that some have taken their own lives within hours of first contact. That is the new face of exploitation. And it’s happening in U.S. households. Every. Single. Day.
The game has changed. “Now these offenders have access to the same technology that the government has,” Prado told me. “They don’t have to go to MIT. They don’t have to have a computer science degree to figure this stuff out.”
Two decades ago, law enforcement relied on basic email for victim identification. Smartphones weren’t widely available, the darknet was barely in use, and exploiting technology required computer science expertise. Today, both predators and our children can figure out these tools with ease. Technology is everywhere, and every device a child receives, whether for school or learning, can become a portal into the darker areas of the internet. According to a 2019 Kaspersky study, 84% of parents worldwide are worried about their children’s online safety. Yet also according to the study, on average, parents only spend a total of 46 minutes talking to their children about online security throughout their entire childhood. Ignoring that is a luxury we can’t afford anymore.
While law enforcement and government investment in combating exploitation have increased over the years, there is still much more to do to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated offenders.
The core challenge is sheer scale. Every success is quickly met with new cases, and for every criminal network taken down overseas, another takes its place. It is the demand for Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) in the U.S. that keeps this cycle in motion.

In 2024, reports involving generative artificial intelligence (AI) increased by 1,325%, highlighting how technology is being weaponized against our children. Additionally, reports of online enticement, including sextortion, rose by 192%, with nearly 100 reports of financial sextortion per day. Since 2021, NCMEC has been aware of at least 36 teenage boys who have taken their lives due to this crime.
The problem is not just the number of cases but the sophistication of the predators and the overwhelming volume of reports. In 2024, NCMEC assisted law enforcement with 29,568 cases of missing children and helped bring 91% of them home. However, the risks, especially online, are becoming more complex and widespread.
But I believe that partnerships are the key to changing the tide in this fight. Just this year, the inaugural Interstate Justice Coalition surge operation (coordinated between Our Rescue, We Fight Monsters, and Skull Games Solutions and in partnership with local law enforcement agencies) spanned across Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, resulting in the identification of 32 trafficking victims, the safe recovery of 26 survivors, and the arrest of 15 traffickers.
It’s work like this — collaboration between law enforcement, nonprofits, communities, and individuals is what ultimately keeps children safe. Topline: Daily Wire host Michael Knowles testified in front of members of the Senate on Tuesday about the growing trend of ideologically motivated violence and its threat to the First Amendment.
Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) and his Republican colleagues believe the threat of violence coming from radical leftists, including &#8220;Antifa,&#8221; is on the rise and will only continue to be an issue unless political leaders and the media are forced to face that fact.
The purpose of Tuesday’s Senate hearing was to present extensive evidence to shine a spotlight on the problem. The assassination of Charlie Kirk prompted this hearing, and it has made this issue of political violence impossible to ignore.
But even with legacy media outlets being forced to cover Kirk’s assassination, critics say they’ve worked hard to bury evidence pointing to the ideological motives of the suspect in the case. The suspect was a leftist who called Kirk’s conservative views “hateful” – and who was in a romantic relationship with a male who identifies as a female.

As Schmitt said, there is still a strong need to ensure the efforts to bury that reality aren’t successful. Inviting a high-profile figure like The Daily Wire’s Knowles to speak was part of the strategy, as he has a large platform and firsthand experience with the kinds of threats coming from the Left.
Knowles specifically spoke to how past administrations refused to list things like the Black Lives Matter riots and massacres by transgender individuals as leftwing violence in official government records.
“Consider the Covenant School massacre in Nashville, for instance, in which a trans-identifying shooter murdered Christian children at school after leaving a manifesto outlining ideological motivations, such as gender ideology. That incident, according to authorities, lacked an ideological motive,” said Knowles. 
“The Black Lives Matter riots — overtly leftist demonstrations that left dozens of people dead and over a billion dollars’ worth of property damage — likewise fail to show up on registers of left-wing political violence,” he continued. “Even an attack by Antifa operatives that targeted me personally for my conservative political views appeared in official records and data sets as nothing more than ‘obstructing law enforcement.’”
Knowles said that the tide has somewhat begun to turn with things like the assassination of Kirk and the multiple attempts on Trump, forcing “honest” liberals to acknowledge the truth about where most of the violence is coming from.
“On September 23, no less an emblem of American liberalism than The Atlantic magazine admitted that fact in an article, based on a recent study, under the headline, ‘Left-Wing Terrorism Is On The Rise,’” said Knowles. “Less honest liberals, including members of Congress, have nevertheless persisted in denying this fact. Democrat Congressman Seth Moulton reacted to a leftist’s assassination of the most prominent proponent of civil debate on the American Right by blaming the Right.”
A YouGov poll just last month <a href="https://thehill.com/national-security/5504569-americans-political-violence-poll/">found</a> that 26% of young liberals say it is “sometimes justified” to resort to violence to achieve political goals. Only 7% of young conservatives said the same.

Topline: A major leadership shakeup at ICE is exposing internal divides over the Trump administration’s mass deportation effort.
ICE leadership is being moved out of multiple offices across the country. They&#8217;re being replaced with Border Patrol leadership. The swaps have happened in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Denver, El Paso, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, and New Orleans.
The Trump administration has already shifted when it comes to who is in charge of the mass deportation campaign. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol commander-at-large Greg Bovino has been put in charge of operations in places such as Los Angeles and Chicago, where Border Patrol agents are making arrests alongside ICE.
Quality versus quantity: There have been significant internal divisions within the Department of Homeland Security over how the administration should conduct its operations and mass deportation arrests.
The division centers on differing priorities: Corey Lewandowski, a senior advisor in a temporary position in the administration, wants to maximize the number of arrests and deportations. ICE Director Todd Lyons and border czar Tom Homan advocate for focusing on arresting hardened criminals.
Quality camp: Lyons and Homan’s camp is very concerned about public perception. Border Patrol and ICE are under a lot of scrutiny. They want to show the public that they&#8217;re getting hardened criminals off the streets and keeping Americans safe. It&#8217;s also about making sure ICE officers feel good about the work they&#8217;re doing and that they&#8217;re making targeted arrests.
Quantity camp: Bovino was involved in some of the more controversial raids, including Home Depot parking lots and car washes. Those raids drew big protests in places like Southern California and Chicago. Bovino has faced significant scrutiny for this. He was testifying in court on Tuesday about his alleged use of tear gas during an operation in Chicago.
ICE is also facing backlash, but it wants to minimize that and get officers back to quality work.
Who is winning? The internal announcement of the Border Patrol takeover of operations came from Lewandowski. He notified Homeland Security officials about the leadership changes at ICE. His being the source of the announcement suggests that his camp is winning the fight.
Lewandowski has, in some ways, more power than Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, sources tell The Daily Wire. His control at DHS has become a point of contention for many in the administration.

Topline: Socialist candidate for New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, continues to hold a commanding lead, but Andrew Cuomo’s attacks and other controversies are beginning to chip away at it.
Mamdani is up by ten points. Andrew Cuomo, the former New York Democratic governor now running as an independent, was polling 20 points behind Mamdani, but Cuomo recently cut that lead in half. A Suffolk University Poll released Monday <a href="https://www.suffolk.edu/-/media/suffolk/documents/academics/research-at-suffolk/suprc/polls/other-states/2025/10_27_2025_new_york_city_press_release.pdf?la=en&amp;hash=29E66C2E3D25A148940F2E3BB98DAC3E5A7C6D6F">shows</a> Mamdani leading Cuomo 44% to 34%. Current NYC Mayor Eric Adams dropped out of the race and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/23/nyregion/adams-endorse-cuomo-nyc-mayor.html">endorsed</a> Cuomo on Thursday, giving Cuomo a boost.
Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, the founder and CEO of the Guardian Angels, is in third place with 11% of the vote.
Opponents of Mamdani, some of whom view him as a communist, have pressured Sliwa to drop out to improve Cuomo’s chances. President Trump is among those who have leaned on Sliwa. But none of the pressure appears to have moved him. The odds are still in Mamdani’s favor, but it&#8217;s a much closer race than it once was.
In-person <a href="https://www.amny.com/politics/early-voting-turnout-nyc-mayor-first-day-2025/">early voting</a> started on Saturday, and Election Day is on November 4.
Mamdani’s controversies: Mamdani raised eyebrows when he tearfully spoke about his aunt, saying she was victimized in the wake of 9/11 because she is a Muslim and wears a hijab.
“My aunt stopped taking the subway after 9/11 because she did not feel safe in her hijab,” <a href="https://x.com/greg_price11/status/1981785770659586431">said</a> the Democratic candidate.
When Mamdani was pressed about the claim, he admitted the story wasn&#8217;t about his aunt but a different relative. He also suggested questioning his story is Islamophobic.
“I was speaking about my aunt, I was speaking about Zehra Fuhi, my father’s cousin – sadly passed away a few years ago,” <a href="https://x.com/realDailyWire/status/1982934087255097421">said</a> Mamdani later when pressed to clarify. “For the takeaway for my more than ten-minute address about Islamophobia in this race and in this city to be the question of my aunt tells you everything about Andrew Cuomo.&#8221;
Mamdani has also been accused of being antisemitic. Recently, a 2023 video resurfaced of Mamdani attacking the NYPD: “We have to make clear that when the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it’s been laced by the IDF,” <a href="https://x.com/mazemoore/status/1982974662175752646?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1982974662175752646%7Ctwgr%5Ea02eb94fab946ff40b5eebe5a6f258ab7b2b35b2%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Fstefanik-rips-hochul-for-backing-raging-antisemite-communist-zohran-mamdani">said</a> Mamdani. “Especially in New York City, you have so many opportunities to make clear the ways in which that struggle over there is tied to capitalist interests over here.”
A segment of New York City is not happy about Mamdani likely becoming mayor. The city is liberal, but Mamdani is seen as radical and outside the mainstream. His proposals include massive tax hikes, a “freeze the rent” policy, replacing cops with social workers in some cases, government-run grocery stores, decriminalizing “sex work,” etc.
As for the frontrunner’s successes in his campaign, Mamdani is doing well with residents under age 40, and he has made genuine efforts to reach out to immigrant communities in the city. The latest numbers show that nearly 40% of all NYC residents are foreign-born. The city&#8217;s changing demographics are definitely a significant factor in this election.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested more illegal alien criminals on Thursday as the Democrat-led shutdown continued into its fourth week. 
In a “worst-of-the-worst” update provided to The Daily Wire, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) highlighted five illegals convicted of crimes ranging from sexual assault to robbery picked up by ICE. 
“Every day, and despite the Democrats’ government shutdown, our ICE officers are arresting pedophiles, sexual assailants, murderers and violent criminals,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “It is unimaginable to think sanctuary politicians put these monsters and sickos over their own constituents.”
According to DHS, the arrests included:

<li>Froilan Mejia-Olvera, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted of sexual assault in Collin County, Texas</li>
<li>Juan Enamorado-Leiva, an illegal alien from Honduras convicted of second-degree murder in Durham County, North Carolina</li>
<li>Jose Alfredo Gomez-Vallecios, an  illegal alien from El Salvador, convicted of robbery in Los Angeles County, California</li>
<li>Alejandro Gonzalez-Ortiz, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted of lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14 in Santa Ana, California</li>
<li>Quoc Ky Luong, a criminal illegal alien from Vietnam, convicted of robbery in Pasadena, California</li>
</ul>

The California arrests come as state Democrats have resisted the Trump administration&#8217;s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration in the Golden State. 
While California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law that bans ICE agents from wearing masks during arrests, Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Kevin Mullin have <a href="https://pelosi.house.gov/news/press-releases/pelosi-mullin-statement-reports-planned-federal-immigration-operation-bay-area">threatened</a> that ICE agents could be detained as President Donald Trump considered a major immigration operation in San Francisco. 
In a letter to California officials, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told them to “abandon this apparent criminal conspiracy.”
“The Department of Justice views any arrests of federal agents and officers in the performance of their official duties as both illegal and futile,” Blanche wrote.

A bombshell report released Tuesday by the Department of Homeland Security revealed that FEMA&#8217;s targeting of Trump supporters was not an isolated incident, contradicting testimony by former President Joe Biden’s FEMA chief. 
The DHS Privacy Office said that an investigation into FEMA found that the agency has been tracking the political beliefs of conservative disaster survivors since at least September 2021. The probe was launched by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in response to a Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-fema-official-ordered-relief-workers-to-skip-houses-with-trump-signs">report</a> exposing a FEMA employee for instructing her team to “avoid homes advertising Trump” in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. 
Those instructions, given by a FEMA employee named Marn’i Washington who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-fema-fires-official-who-told-hurricane-relief-workers-to-skip-trump-homes">was fired</a> after The Daily Wire report, told relief workers canvassing Lake Placid, Florida, to skip the homes of people with Trump yard signs or flags. In response to this report, Deanne Criswell, who led FEMA under Biden, claimed that the incident was isolated and did not reflect the agency&#8217;s standard practices. 
However, this political weaponization was &#8220;not isolated,&#8221; the DHS report found, saying that it had “uncovered evidence that this also occurred during other disasters across the nation.”
Since Hurricane Ida in September 2021, FEMA employees have made notes about the political beliefs of disaster survivors like “angry political rant,” “Sign states I’m a bitter gun owner clinging to my religion,” “Homeowner had a sign stating… this is trump country,” and “[P]ro gun sign.” 
Other notes left in the FEMA system included statements like “There was a political flyer so I didn’t leave FEMA brochure” and “&#8230; a lot of explicit political flags, posters, etc. ‘F*** Joe Biden’ ‘MAGA 2024’ ‘Joe Biden Sucks’ ‘Trump 2024’ We do not recommend anyone visiting this location.”

“The federal government was withholding aid against Americans in crisis based on their political beliefs — this should horrify every American, regardless of political persuasion,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. “For years, FEMA employees under the Biden Administration intentionally delayed much-needed aid to Americans suffering from natural disasters on purely political grounds.”
DHS said that Noem had referred the incident in Lake Placid to the Department of Justice for further investigation and potential prosecution.
The DHS report found that FEMA violated the Privacy Act of 1974 by collecting and storing records tied to protected speech. The investigation “exposed widespread gaps in FEMA’s policies, processes, and procedures, resulting in systemic violations that unfairly targeted individuals across the country,” the report found. 
“The DHS Privacy Office examined screenshots of the tool that FEMA canvassers use to collect information from disaster survivors and data extracted from the tool’s database,” the report said.  “The tool’s information indicated that canvassers included information related to political party affiliation, campaign signs, and other information related to freedom of expression.”
Since September 2021, FEMA employees and contractors flagged things like “gun signage&#8221; 72 times, &#8220;Trump&#8221; 15 times, &#8220;firearms&#8221; five times, &#8220;political&#8221; three times, and &#8220;Biden&#8221; and &#8220;NRA&#8221; twice, respectively.

Other examples of things logged into FEMA’s tracking system were notes like “angry political rant,” “Sign states I’m a bitter gun owner clinging to my religion,” “Homeowner had a sign stating… this is trump country.”
These findings were all part of the investigation Noem launched into FEMA in response to Washington’s guidance in Florida. The report cites The Daily Wire, noting that it was “the first news outlet to report these allegations.”

The findings appear to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heres-what-we-learned-from-fema-chiefs-day-of-congressional-grilling">contradict</a> FEMA Administrator Criswell&#8217;s November 19 testimony to the House Oversight Committee. 
“We are working with the inspector general to determine whether or not this is broader than this, but the evidence that I have seen so far shows that this was an isolated incident, and it has not gone beyond what this one employee did,” she said at the time. 
The Florida incident prompted actions from dozens of elected officials and investigations from the state of Tennessee, the state of Florida, the House Homeland Security Committee, the House Oversight Committee, an internal FEMA investigation, America First Legal, the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General, and the Office of Special Counsel.
It was also referenced in an executive order from Trump ordering FEMA to be dramatically reformed.

Authorities nabbed an armed illegal immigrant after he allegedly placed a $10,000 bounty calling for the deaths of federal immigration agents in Dallas, Texas. Agents continue to face mounting threats all across the nation.
Mexican illegal immigrant Eduardo Aguilar called for “10 dudes in Dallas with determination who aren’t afraid to [two skull emojis],” and offered “10K for each ICE agent&#8221; in an Oct. 9 TikTok post, <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/10/17/criminal-illegal-alien-who-offered-10000-bounties-murder-ice-agents-arrested-dallas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Department of Homeland Security. The latest threat comes just weeks after a sniper opened fire on an ICE facility in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/two-injured-one-killed-in-shooting-at-dallas-ice-detention-center">Dallas</a>, killing two detainees despite intending to target federal agents.
Bounties have also been placed on federal officers during &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/over-1000-illegal-immigrants-arrested-in-trumps-operation-midway-blitz">Operation Midway Blitz</a>&#8221; in Chicago, with some amounting to $50,000. The Mexican <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mexican-cartels-place-bounties-on-federal-agents-in-chicago?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=11&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Mexican+Cartels+Place+Bounties+On+Federal+Agents+In+Chicago">cartels</a> have been linked to some of the bounty threats and have reportedly placed armed spotters on rooftops in the Windy City.
&#8220;Thanks to the quick work of law enforcement, this illegal alien who was offering $10,000 cash bounties for the murder of ICE law enforcement is in custody and facing federal charges. We are thankful this illegal alien who had a firearm in his possession was arrested before he could kill one of our law enforcement officers,” Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement on Friday.
“Our agents are facing ambushes, terrorist attacks, and death threats, all because they dare to enforce the laws passed by Congress. We will not back down from these threats, and every criminal, terrorist, and illegal alien will face American justice,&#8221; McLaughlin said.

When he was arrested, Aguilar was carrying a loaded 9mm handgun in his car, according to DHS. It&#8217;s a felony for illegal <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/staggering-number-of-americans-apply-to-join-ice?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Staggering+Number+Of+Americans+Apply+To+Join+ICE">immigrants</a> to possess firearms.

Aguilar crossed the border illegally in 2018 as an unaccompanied minor before he was ordered deported by an immigration judge the next year, DHS said.
While in the U.S., Aguilar racked up a criminal history that includes liquor law violations. He is now charged with transmitting in interstate or foreign commerce a communication containing a threat.
