Dubbed &#8220;Operation Midway Blitz,&#8221; the Trump administration&#8217;s sweeping illegal immigration raids across Illinois have yielded more than 1,000 arrests of illegal immigrants, The Daily Wire can reveal.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Protection sent reinforcements to the sanctuary state Sept. 8, resulting in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dhs-arrests-800-illegal-immigrants-in-illinois-raids-as-trumps-deportations-continue-amid-shutdown?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=3&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=DHS+Arrests+800+Illegal+Immigrants+In+Illinois+Raids+As+Trump%E2%80%99s+Deportations+Continue+Amid+Shutdown">arrests</a> of gang members, sex offenders, child abusers, and other violent criminals, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire.
“Our patriotic law enforcement officers are making these arrests despite working [without] pay because of the Democrats&#8217; shutdown,&#8221; Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement regarding the operation.
&#8220;President Trump and Secretary Noem will not allow continued violence or repeat offenders to terrorize our neighborhoods and victimize our children. Operation Midway Blitz is making Illinois safe again,&#8221; she added.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem tagged along with federal authorities Friday in Broadview, Illinois, where she said she was &#8220;blocked from accessing the Village of Broadview Municipal Building in Illinois.&#8221;
&#8220;We were stopping for a quick bathroom break. This is a public building. The Village of Broadview receives at least $1 million in federal funding every year,&#8221; Noem <a href="https://x.com/Sec_Noem/status/1974189838849987022" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on X, sharing a video of the encounter.
&#8220;This is how JB Pritzker and his cronies treat our law enforcement. Absolutely shameful,&#8221; she added, referencing the Illinois Democratic governor and rumored 2028 presidential candidate.
The ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois, has for weeks been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/protesters-try-to-block-ice-agents-from-driving-into-illinois-facility?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=8&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Armed+Rioter+Arrested+As+Protesters+Try+To+Block+ICE+Agents+From+Driving+Into+Illinois+Facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">targeted</a> by rioters, who have tried to thwart the federal arrest operations. On Friday, state and local police <a href="https://x.com/Garrett_FoxNews/status/1974148610372567329" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> to the latest demonstrations in riot gear.
Snipers were also <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1974165474830397860" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stationed</a> on the roof of the ICE facility.
Pritzker has responded by condemning the effort.
“The Trump Administration’s DHS officers appear to be carrying large weapons around downtown Chicago in camouflage and masks. This is not making anybody safer — it’s a show of intimidation, instilling fear in our communities and hurting our businesses,” Pritzker <a href="https://x.com/GovPritzker/status/1972398797688127984">wrote</a> on X Sunday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were targeted in two separate car attacks during enforcement operations in the Chicago area on Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told The Daily Wire. 
Illegal aliens “weaponized their vehicles in deliberate attempts to ram and injure” agents making arrests in Bensenville and Norridge, Illinois, DHS said Thursday. The attacks occurred as ICE continues to carry out &#8220;Operation Midway Blitz,&#8221; a massive illegal alien crackdown targeting the Chicago area that has yielded over <a href="https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/operation-midway-blitz-surpasses-900-arrests-illinois-dhs-says">900 arrests</a>. 
“Thankfully, none of our law enforcement was killed because of these deranged criminals&#8217; attacks on law enforcement. This is exactly what happens when Governor Pritzker, Mayor Johnson, and other sanctuary politicians demonize ICE and encourage illegal aliens to resist law enforcement,” Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire. 
In the first instance, Miguel Escareno De Loera, an illegal alien from Mexico, rammed his car into an ICE vehicle twice before jumping a curb and crashing into a stop, according to DHS.  It is unknown when Escareno De Loera entered the United States, as he was not stopped at the border.

In the second attack, Widman Osberto Lopez-Funes, an illegal alien from Guatemala, slammed his vehicle into ICE agents during an enforcement operation before running on foot to his home in Bensenville, DHS said. He was later taken into custody.  It is also unknown when Lopez-Funes illegally crossed into the United States.

 Both men are expected to face criminal charges for assaulting federal law enforcement and will remain in ICE custody as they face deportation. 
“Our ICE law enforcement is facing a more than 1000% increase in assaults—including cars being used as weapons against them. Secretary Noem has been clear: anyone who assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” McLaughlin said. 
The Trump administration has faced backlash from leftist protesters as they carry out operations around Chicago. Democrats, including Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, continue to voice their opposition to the efforts to clean up the city.

The Trump administration&#8217;s mass deportation efforts will move full steam ahead even if the government shuts down.
More than 19,000 of Immigration and Customs Enforcement&#8217;s (ICE) roughly 21,000 employees will work through a shutdown, <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/2025-09/2025_0929_dhs_procedures_related_to_a_lapse_in_appropriations.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to a contingency plan released by the Department of Homeland Security. And the working employees will assist in the agency&#8217;s law enforcement functions in cracking down on illegal immigration and illicit drugs.
Multiple agency sources carrying out arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants across the country confirmed that they&#8217;re required to report to work and are considered &#8220;essential&#8221; government employees during a shutdown.
&#8220;It&#8217;s business as usual,&#8221; one ICE source told The Daily Wire.

In addition to ICE, most of Customs and Border Protection&#8217;s personnel will also stay on the job during a shutdown. The agency has not only played an integral role in shutting down the borders under the Trump administration, but also in assisting ICE with its deportation operations across the country, including in Chicago and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/four-illegal-immigrants-arrested-after-laser-aimed-at-cbp-helicopter-patrolling-portland?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Four+Illegal+Immigrants+Arrested+After+Laser+Aimed+At+CBP+Helicopter+Patrolling+Portland">Portland</a>.
While ICE and CBP authorities won&#8217;t get paid for working during a shutdown, they will receive backpay once Congress passes a funding bill.
The looming shutdown comes as the Trump administration doubles down on ICE sweeps across the country despite an uptick in left-wing violence targeting agents. Trump deployed troops to Portland over the weekend in an attempt to crack down on attacks carried out by Antifa and other domestic terrorists, which have targeted ICE facilities.
And the job is anything but finished, a Homeland Security official told The Daily Wire.

Following the meeting, Vance told reporters that a shutdown was likely coming.
“I think we’re heading to a shutdown, because the Democrats won’t do the right thing,” Vance said. “I hope they change their mind, but we’re going to see.”
The House on Sept. 19 passed a seven-week extension of government funding that would expire on Nov. 21, but the Senate struck it down in a <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1191/vote_119_1_00528.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vote</a> of 44-48. The Senate needs 60 votes to pass such a resolution.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Monday arrested more illegal aliens convicted of serious crimes like robbery and sexual offenses against a child, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire.
“Despite vile rhetoric and continued assaults on our ICE law enforcement officers, they continue to risk their lives every single day to arrest criminal illegal aliens convicted of child sex crimes, homicide, aggravated robbery, and other violent criminals. Our brave law enforcement are heroes Americans can be proud of,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.
“Our ICE officers are facing a more than 1000% increase in assaults against them as they carry out operations to remove criminal illegal aliens from American neighborhoods. Our brave law enforcement will not be deterred from enforcing the law and getting heinous criminals out of our country,” McLaughlin added.
Those arrested included:

<li>Javier Perez-Garcia, a 48-year-old illegal alien from Mexico convicted of indecent sexual contact with a child, in Hopkins County, Texas. Perez-Garcia was sentenced to eight years in prison.</li>
<li>Jose Nehemias Zavala-Mejia, an illegal alien from El Salvador convicted of aggravated robbery in Finney County, Kansas.</li>
<li>Carlos Vasquez-Castro, an illegal alien from Mexico convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, in Queens, New York.</li>
<li>Adan Guerrero-Gonzalez, a 50-year-old illegal alien from Mexico convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Hardeeville, South Carolina. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.</li>
<li>Mirna Mendez-Escamilla, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted of theft in Ogden, Utah.</li>
</ul>
Over the weekend, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law banning ICE agents from wearing masks while making arrests as he continues to oppose the Trump administration’s illegal immigration crackdown.
McLaughlin called the new law “despicable” and “a flagrant attempt to endanger” federal officers, and agency sources <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nice-try-gavin-newsom-cant-stop-ice-agents-from-wearing-masks-sources-say">told The Daily Wire</a> that the new law won’t stop them from masking their faces.
“Nice try by Newsom, but he knows it doesn’t apply to federal agents. He loves stirring the pot so that people find more ways to bring conflict to ICE,” said one ICE source.

As Democrats protest the Trump administration’s illegal immigration crackdown, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues to arrest illegal aliens convicted of crimes, including sexual offenses against children and vehicular homicide. 
Illegal aliens picked up by ICE across the country on Thursday included those convicted of robbery, kidnapping, and sexual indecency with a child, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire. Those arrests happened as Democratic officials attempted to storm the holding cells of illegal aliens in New York City. 
“Yesterday, while Democrat lawmakers were obstructing law enforcement at Federal 26 Plaza, ICE law enforcement officers were arresting more pedophiles, child abusers, and kidnappers. Nothing will slow ICE down from removing criminal illegal aliens who are terrorizing American communities,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire. 
One of those nabbed by federal immigration officials on Thursday was a 42-year-old illegal alien from Mexico named Armando Vasquez-Gonzalez, who was convicted of sexual indecency with a child in Hays County, Texas. Hays County is located between San Antonio and Austin. 
Federal officials also arrested Nery Garcia-Linares, a 32-year-old criminal illegal alien from Guatemala, who was convicted of endangering the welfare of a four-year-old child through sexual conduct in Trenton, New Jersey.

Jefferson Caisahuana-Torres, a criminal illegal alien from Peru convicted of felony injury to a child in Idaho, was also nabbed by ICE. Caisahuana-Torres was originally <a href="https://www.mtexpress.com/news/cops_courts/bonneville-county-man-charged-in-ketchum-rape-case/article_c7675db4-e8b2-11ef-aba0-5b734f40d741.html">charged</a> with rape of a 16-year-old girl. 
Authorities also arrested Edgar Benitez-Martinez, an illegal alien from Mexico convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in Santa Clara County, California, and Souraphong Senethong, an illegal alien from Laos, convicted of robbery and kidnapping in King County, Washington.

“DHS applauds the heroic work of the brave men and women of ICE who are securing our nation and restoring the rule of law for our American citizens,” said McLaughlin. 
As these arrests were happening across the country, nearly a dozen Democrat lawmakers were arrested after they engaged in an hour-long standoff with federal officers at an ICE facility at 26 Federal Plaza. Topline: ABC has suspended Jimmy Kimmel&#8217;s late-night show “indefinitely” for his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
The outrage: The Kimmel comments that really sparked outrage came on Monday night, five days after Kirk’s killing.
Despite reports that the suspected shooter held left-wing political views, Kimmel <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1968476012871925903">said</a> this: “Hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox and the FBI have described the accused shooter as “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology.” The suspect had described Charlie Kirk’s conservative views as “full of hate,” and he was in a romantic relationship with his male trans-identifying roommate.
Yet on Tuesday night, even after the backlash, Kimmel <a href="https://youtu.be/aHT7ICvMtlA">doubled down</a>: “Meanwhile, many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk …”
TL;DR: Kimmel made false statements that he certainly should have known were false in the immediate aftermath of Kirk’s death.
What ABC saw: The network acted after some heavy pressure from the major broadcasting companies that air Kimmel’s show on ABC affiliates. On Wednesday, Nexstar Media Group, which carries Kimmel on 23 ABC stations, announced it would pull episodes starting Wednesday.
Sinclair Broadcast Group, another major affiliate operator, demanded an apology to the Kirk family and a donation to Turning Point USA before it would put Kimmel back on the air. On Friday night, its ABC stations, along with those of Nexstar, will be airing a memorial for Kirk instead of Kimmel.
Behind the scenes, ABC reportedly tried to get that apology from Kimmel. But he refused, feeling he had nothing to apologize for. He also allegedly planned to take even further aim at Donald Trump supporters during his monologue on Wednesday night.
View from the FCC: As this played out, FCC Chair Brendan Carr pointed out that broadcast networks are different from print media or cable in that they require licenses from the federal government to operate. Knowingly making false, defamatory statements violates the FCC’s rules.
But that said, there is no evidence that Carr or the FCC has taken any formal action against ABC. And that’s a contrast with the Biden administration, which took formal action against conservative media.

Topline: The Department of Justice under the Biden administration focused heavily on what it called right-wing “domestic terrorism,” and now President Trump is signaling it will focus on radical left-wing movements, such as &#8220;ANTIFA,&#8221; which Trump said he is designating a &#8220;major terrorist organization.&#8221;
Introducing the SRA: The Socialist Rifle Association was founded in 2019 and by the following year, counted 10,000 “comrades.”
It operates through state-based chapters across the country, and says it educates and trains leftists on the use of firearms to protect against “fascists.”
The group was founded by two transgender men, one of whom goes by “she/it.” According to an internal survey, one-third of members identify as anarchists, one-third as Marxist-Leninists, and one-third as LGBTQ. 
It issues membership cards featuring Karl Marx’s face. But perhaps more than anything, it’s wrapped up with transgender politics. Four of its 13 national leaders go by “they” pronouns. 
Links to political violence: A Daily Wire review of federal court records found that membership in the Socialist Rifle Association is a common link in four high-profile incidents of political violence.
A couple of months ago, nearly a dozen people, many of them who identify as transgender, were charged with committing an armed assault on an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. Benjamin Hanil Song, who was charged with shooting a police officer in the neck in that incident, was allegedly a Socialist Rifle Association member.
Two separate incidents of firebombing Tesla dealerships, one the day of President Trump’s inauguration, were committed by Socialist Rifle Association members, according to prosecutors.
Link to Kirk slaying?: The Socialist Rifle Association told The Daily Wire that Kirk’s suspected assassin is not a member. But it declined to say whether his boyfriend, Lance Twiggs, was, citing confidentiality. The group has a chapter in Utah, where the suspect is from.
Follow the money: It’s structured as a nonprofit incorporated in Kansas, but its federal tax-exempt status was revoked after it failed to file paperwork with the IRS for years. It’s still been operating, so that’s one avenue that perhaps the federal government will look at.

Topline: According to a new report by The Daily Wire, the Trump administration’s mass deportation campaign is surging – with nearly 400,000 illegal immigrants already removed from the country.
The Trump administration has set a lofty goal of one million deportations per year, a target that has never been achieved before. The pace stands at 389,000 illegal immigrants deported so far under this administration. While that&#8217;s not close to one million, it’s a huge advance compared to previous administrations. It even exceeds the record of former President Barack Obama, who was described as the “deporter-in-chief.” It also exceeds President Biden&#8217;s final year in office. 
The Trump administration has hired 10,000 new immigration agents to expedite the process. However, acting ICE Director Todd Lyons recently told The Daily Wire that efforts to encourage self-deportations will undoubtedly reach the goal of one million deportees. The administration has already seen, according to DHS, two million of those.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has cut over $30 million in &#8220;frivolous and unnecessary” government grants and contracts in the last three weeks, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire. 
The department said that it had cut a total of $31,692,166 in spending between August 22 and September 12. The savings were from de-obligated grants and contracts targeted as part of President Donald Trump&#8217;s efforts to cut down on government waste, the department told The Daily Wire.
“In just three weeks, Secretary Noem has saved the taxpayer more than $30 million. That’s more than $1 million per DAY,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, it is no longer open season on the American taxpayer at DHS. The Trump administration is draining the swamp, restoring accountability to the federal government, and putting hardworking Americans FIRST again.”
Under the Trump administration, all department contracts worth over $100,000 have to be approved by Noem.
In total, the Department of Homeland Security said it has saved over $12 billion during Noem’s tenure. In total, that equals out to saving about $50 million per day during the Trump administration.
Homeland Security also said that it was providing savings to American taxpayers by deporting illegal aliens.
“These savings figures don’t even include the additional savings from DHS’s immigration enforcement efforts since President Trump resumed office,” the department said.
According to an estimate from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, the net cost of illegal immigration on American citizens is around $150 billion per year. These costs include schooling, health care, and food assistance for illegal aliens.
“Taxes paid by illegal aliens only cover around 17.2 percent of the costs they create for American citizens, bringing the net cost to $150.7 billion a year. For every dollar in taxes paid by illegal aliens, they and their dependents consume six dollars in benefits and services,” the organization <a href="https://www.fairus.org/new-fair-report-annual-costs-illegal-immigration-soars-1507-billion-year">found</a>.
The Trump administration is looking to use new funds allocated by the Big, Beautiful Bill to help increase deportations.

Fresh off a major legal victory, the Department of Homeland Security is touting the wide variety of illegal aliens convicted on charges related to violence, drugs, and sex crimes currently held in “Alligator Alcatraz.&#8221;
Last week, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.ca11.92709/gov.uscourts.ca11.92709.42.1.pdf">struck down</a> a federal judge’s order saying that Alligator Alcatraz needed to be shut down. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis celebrated the ruling over the weekend, saying he was working to open up similar illegal detention centers across the state, including one he dubbed he “Panhandle Pokey.” 
In the meantime, Alligator Alcatraz will remain home to illegal immigrants convicted of drug trafficking, murder, and sexual offenses targeting children. Since its opening, the detention center has been the focus of protests from leftist activists and a lawsuit arguing that Florida and the Trump administration violated federal environmental laws. 
“Despite repeated hoaxes peddled by the media and activist judges, Alligator Alcatraz is still open and housing some of the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens, including murderers, pedophiles, weapon traffickers, and drug dealers until they are swiftly removed from our country,” Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire. 
According to the Department of Homeland Security, those currently detained at Alligator Alcatraz include the following:

<li>Abelardo Ocampo, an illegal from Mexico convicted of attempted homicide/second-degree murder and possession of a weapon with intent to harm.  </li>
<li>Eraldo Ariel Perez Perez, an illegal from Guatemala, convicted of sexual battery of a victim (12 years or older) physically helpless to resist.</li>
<li>Efrain Mez-Choc, another illegal from Guatemala convicted of engaging in sex with a child and two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child 12-16 years old. </li>
<li>Alexis Moreda Gallardo, an illegal from Cuba convicted of larceny, fraud impersonation, aggravated assault, and indecent exposure.  </li>
<li>Gustavo Cruz Garcia, an illegal alien from Mexico convicted of prostitution and sex offenses.  </li>
<li>Gersain Lerma Lasprilla, an illegal from Colombia convicted in his home country for the manufacture and trafficking of firearms and ammunition.  </li>
<li>Thallys Roberto Cassimiro DeSouza, an illegal from Brazil convicted of robbery. </li>
<li>David Mota Castillo, an illegal from the Dominican Republic convicted of drug trafficking. </li>
<li>Simeon De La Cruz Paredes, an illegal from the Dominican Republic convicted of smuggling aliens.</li>
<li>Diego Puentes, an illegal from Guatemala convicted of second-degree murder. </li>
</ul>
The Trump administration plans to open similar facilities in other states.
“Innovative state partnerships like Alligator Alcatraz, Louisiana Lock-up, Speedway Slammer, and Cornhusker Clink are expanding detention capability to lock up criminal illegal aliens and turbo charging our efforts to get criminal illegal aliens out of our country,” McLaughlin said. “Fire up the deportation planes.”

A Texas Republican introduced legislation Tuesday that he says would protect millions of American jobs from illegal aliens. 
Congressman Brandon Gill’s “Domestic Jobs Protection Act” would strip the executive branch of authority to grant work authorization to illegal aliens. Gill said that his bill would stop future administrations from using federal law to hand out jobs to people who illegally crossed into the United States. 
“President Trump has done more for American workers and their families than any other president,” Gill told The Daily Wire. “It is crucial that we prevent any future administrations from doing anything to stand in the way of their success, including using work permits to usher in more illegal immigration.” 
Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, the Department of Homeland Security can issue work employment authorization documents to illegal aliens who have been given temporary protected status, are part of the DACA program, or are part of other similar initiatives. Gill’s office said that this work authorization creates a “powerful jobs magnet” for illegal immigration. 
Former President Joe Biden gave temporary protected status to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Sudan. This status allowed them to seek work authorization from the government.
The Domestic Jobs Protection Act would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to ensure that “no future administration can exploit discretionary work permits to revive DACA-style programs or expand illegal immigration at the expense of American workers,” according to Gill’s office. 
The current definition of unauthorized alien “with respect to the employment of an alien at a particular time” in the legal code is “that the alien is not at that time either (A) an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or (B) authorized to be so employed by this chapter or by the Attorney General.”
Since the Immigration and Nationality Act took effect, the authority to grant employment authorization documents has transitioned from the attorney general to the Department of Homeland Security.
Gill’s bill would remove the line of text that reads “or by the attorney general” to ensure that only Congress can decide who receives work authorization.

The Trump administration slammed the legacy media on Monday for suggesting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducts raids at schools, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire. 
Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin accused the media of fear mongering with implying that the Trump administration was targeting students in classrooms. McLaughlin said arrests would only be made at schools if the target was an illegal immigrant employee.
“The Trump Administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement and instead trusts them to use common sense,&#8221; McLaughlin said. &#8220;If a dangerous illegal alien felon were to flee into a school, or a child sex offender is working as an employee, there may be a situation where an arrest is made to protect public safety. But this has not happened.&#8221;
“The media is sadly attempting to create a climate of fear and smear law enforcement,&#8221; McLaughlin told The Daily Wire. &#8220;These smears are contributing to our ICE law enforcement officers facing 1,000% increase in assaults against them.&#8221;
Several media outlets have published stories highlighting fears that immigration authorities would show up at schools. 
The New York Times ran an <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/07/us/immigration-deportations-ice-schools.html">article</a> called “What if ICE Agents Show Up? Schools Prepare Teachers and Parents,” while the Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/08/15/immigrant-schoolchildren-ice-raids-protections/">published</a> “This back-to-school season, educators prepare for ICE encounters.” NBC ran an <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/-impact-real-ice-raid-fears-keep-students-classrooms-rcna194562">article</a> “‘The impact has been real’: ICE raid fears keep students out of classrooms.” 
“ICE is not going to schools to make arrests of children,” McLaughlin said, adding that criminals would “no longer be able to hide in America’s schools to avoid arrest.”
A press release from Homeland Security said that while ICE could conduct operations at schools, agents would use discretion and that the department said those circumstances would be “extremely rare.”
The Trump administration has focused on catching illegal aliens who have been convicted or charged with violent crimes in addition to illegally crossing the border.
Border Czar Tom Homan said during a speech at the State Freedom Caucus Summit over the weekend that over 70% of ICE arrests have been of those who have been charged with additional crimes. He added that the administration still maintained the right to deport anyone, regardless of whether they had committed a second crime upon entering the country.

CBS News announced on Friday that it is changing its policy on interviews with top government officials on “Face the Nation” after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-news-shamefully-edited-interview-to-whitewash-kilmar-abrego-garcias-background-noem-says">blasted</a> the network for “shamefully” editing comments she made on last Sunday’s show.
CBS News initially defended its edits to the Noem interview, arguing that it “met all CBS News standards” and adding that the full interview and transcript were available online. On Friday, however, CBS News backtracked, saying that based on “audience feedback over the past week,” the network will “implement a new policy for greater transparency in our interviews,” The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/media/5488422-cbs-face-the-nation-changes-kristi-noem-dhs/">reported</a>.
“FACE THE NATION will now only broadcast live or live-to-tape interviews (subject to national security or legal restrictions),” CBS News said. “This extra measure means the television audience will see the full, unedited interview on CBS and we will continue our practice of posting full transcripts and the unedited video online.”
The network got into hot water after its edits to the Noem interview cut the Homeland Security secretary’s response short by 30 seconds when she was discussing the allegations against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal alien at the center of a high-profile U.S. immigration case, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-news-shamefully-edited-interview-to-whitewash-kilmar-abrego-garcias-background-noem-says">reported</a>. The part of Noem’s comments that CBS News cut out of the version that it aired on “Face The Nation” included Noem saying that Abrego Garcia “was a known human smuggler, an MS-13 gang member, an individual who was a wife beater, and someone who was so perverted that he solicited nude photos from minors.”

A federal appeals court issued a ruling on Thursday allowing an illegal alien detention center in Florida dubbed Alligator Alcatraz to remain “open for business” while a lawsuit against the state and the Trump administration makes its way through court.
An Obama-appointed federal district court judge <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/obama-appointed-judge-orders-alligator-alcatraz-to-shut-down-within-60-days">issued</a> a temporary restraining order last month ordering Florida and the Trump administration to stop placing illegal aliens in the facility. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals blocked that judge’s order in a 2-1 decision on Thursday.
The judges <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.ca11.92709/gov.uscourts.ca11.92709.42.1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ruled</a> that a lawsuit brought by environmental groups and an American Indian tribe “failed to state a viable claim” that Florida and the Department of Homeland Security violated federal environmental laws.
“Given that the federal government has an undisputed and wide-reaching interest in combatting illegal immigration, and that illegal immigration is a matter of national security and public safety, we think the injunction issued below goes against the public interest,” the majority wrote in the court’s decision.
Both the Department of Homeland Security and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis celebrated the ruling.
“Today’s order is a win for the American people, the rule of law and common sense,” the Department of Homeland Security posted on X. “This lawsuit was never about the environmental impacts of turning a developed airport into a detention facility. It has and will always be about open-borders activists and judges trying to keep law enforcement from removing dangerous criminal aliens from our communities, full stop.”

“The mission continues on immigration enforcement. The media was giddy that somehow Alligator Alcatraz was ‘shutting down.’ And we told them that wasn’t true,” DeSantis <a href="https://x.com/GovRonDeSantis/status/1963688691542401406">said</a> in a video message. “There have been illegal aliens continuing to be there and being removed and returned to their home country. But they ran with the narrative because some leftist judge ruled, implausibly, that somehow Florida wasn’t allowed to use our own property to help the federal government in this important mission.”

The Trump administration has partnered with states across the country to open up similar detention centers with names like the Cornhusker Clink in Nebraska and the Speedway Slammer in Indiana.
