The U.S. maritime industry is “dangerously” reliant on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/china" target="_blank" rel="noopener">China</a> potentially opening the door for the Chinese Communist Party to gain access to critical American infrastructure, according to a new report from House Republicans.
In a <a href="https://homeland.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Joint-Homeland-China-Select-Port-Security-Report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> released Thursday, House Republicans on the Committee on Homeland Security and Select Committee on the CCP said that the use of Chinese manufactured equipment and technology at American ports jeopardized national security. The report specifically focused on Chinese-government owned ZPMC, a major manufacturer of cranes used at ports across the country.
“The evidence gathered during our joint investigation indicates that ZPMC could, if desired, serve as a Trojan horse capable of helping the CCP and the PRC military exploit and manipulate U.S. maritime equipment and technology at their request,” the committee said in a statement. “This vulnerability in our critical infrastructure has the potential to affect Americans from coast to coast.”
The report accuses ZPMC of leveraging cheap labor and subsidized steel to sell cranes around the world at non-competitive prices, flooding the world market. The lawmakers found that around 80% of ship to shore cranes used at ports in the U.S. come from ZPMC.
According to the lawmakers, ZPMC is owned by the China Communications Construction Group, which has had “significant involvement in militarizing the South China Sea.”
The lawmakers said that this reliance was a cybersecurity risk because ZPMC or one of its contractors had installed cellular modems on cranes at ports in the U.S.
“ZPMC has repeatedly requested remote access to its STS cranes operating at various U.S. ports, with a particular focus on those located on the West Coast,” the report said. “If granted, this access could potentially be extended to other PRC government entities, posing a significant risk due to the PRC’s national security laws that mandate cooperation with state intelligence agencies.”

Few alternatives exist because there are no U.S.-based companies that make similar cranes, the report found.
Other vulnerabilities in the American maritime industry include the fact that portions of the ports of Long Beach, Seattle, Los Angeles, Houston, and Miami are controlled by the China Merchants Group and COSCO Shipping, two state-owned companies.
The lawmakers included several recommendations in their 50-page report on what actions the U.S. should take to bolster its maritime security. These included having the Coast Guard issue guidance telling ports to disassemble any connection between ZPMC cranes to cellular modems.
They also recommended that the Commerce Department analyze U.S. capacity to increase manufacturing of crane technology and increasing security at U.S. ports.

Whistleblowers have warned Congress that federal agents reassigned to protective candidate details, including former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a>&#8216;s, were &#8220;egregiously under-prepared.&#8221;
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) claimed in an <a href="https://x.com/HawleyMO/status/1831136050204623349">X post</a> on Tuesday that Homeland Security personnel had been &#8220;thrown onto Trump’s protective detail with nothing more than a 2hr online training&#8221; at the July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a 20-year-old man attempted to assassinate the former president.
During a Fox News interview, Hawley <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/04/us-news/most-agents-guarding-trump-during-assassination-attempt-at-were-homeland-security-personnel-who-took-two-hour-online-webinar-sen-hawley/">said</a>, &#8220;Think about this: This former president of the US&#8230;is sent out on stage, most of the people there are not trained, they&#8217;re not qualified. They only got a webinar training and even that didn&#8217;t work.&#8221;
Hawley sent a letter to Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe on Tuesday detailing new claims about Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) agents that partner with the Secret Service. He said the recent allegations &#8220;suggest that a significant number of personnel tasked with providing security for former President Trump at the July 13 rally were egregiously under-prepared by the Secret Service to carry out this mission.&#8221;
“When Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents partner with the Secret Service, they should be properly trained. New whistleblower allegations contend that this isn’t happening&#8230;,” Hawley wrote.

The Missouri Republican added that a whistleblower told him &#8220;that the only training received by many HSI agents reassigned to work protective details is a two-hour webinar on Microsoft Teams featuring pre-recorded videos.&#8221;  
“Imagine 1,000 people logging onto Microsoft Teams at the same time after being informed at the last minute that everyone needed to login individually,” a whistleblower said, according to Hawley. “Once it got rolling, the Secret Service instructor couldn’t figure out how to get the audio working on the prerecorded videos (which I’m told are the same videos as last year). All told, they restarted the videos approximately six times &#8230;. The content was not helpful.”

Since Trump was shot in the ear by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks at the July 13 rally, the whistleblower told Hawley that there have been no security training improvements. 
“Nothing new, nothing improved since the assassination attempt on former President Trump,” the whistleblower said. 
Hawley asked Rowe to provide details on how many HSI agents were present at the July 13 rally, how many were only trained through the webinar, and to provide specific curriculum and training materials. Lawmakers continue to investigate the Secret Service’s handling of the Butler rally as questions remain about what caused the massive security failures.

Sixteen Republican-led states filed a lawsuit in partnership with America First Legal against the Biden-Harris administration over a plan to give as many as 1.3 million illegal immigrants what critics call “immediate executive amnesty.”
The <a href="https://media.aflegal.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/23101650/2024-0823_1-Complaint.pdf">lawsuit</a>, filed on Friday, challenges a <a href="https://www.theblaze.com/news/550000-or-more-illegal-aliens-could-receive-amnesty-under-biden-harris-admins-executive-order-states-respond-with-lawsuit">new parole-in-place program</a> from the Biden-Harris administration’s Department of Homeland Security “that effectively provides a new pathway to citizenship for more than a million illegal aliens.”
“Longstanding federal law prohibits aliens who entered the United States unlawfully from obtaining most immigration benefits,” the lawsuit states, addressing the Biden-Harris administration program that would allow some illegal aliens to stay in the United States while requesting parole status.

While the administration has claimed that roughly 550,000 illegal immigrants would be eligible for the parole-in-place amnesty, the lawsuit argues that the figure is “likely a significant underestimate,” also stating that the real number could be as high as 1.3 million.

The sixteen states that joined the lawsuit as plaintiffs against the Biden-Harris Department of Homeland Security are Texas, Idaho, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wyoming.

16 States Sue Biden-Harris Admin Over Illegal Immigrant Amnesty Program

A Biden administration program meant to deport families who immigrated illegally to the United States has removed just over 10% of the immigrants signed up since May of last year.
The Family Expedited Removal Program has resulted in the deportation of only about 2,600 aliens from around 24,000 enrolled. More than 3,600 immigrants in the program are believed to be at large in the United States, though officials have lost track of them, according to internal data about the program reported by the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/08/13/us-news/biden-admin-touted-program-to-remove-migrant-families-but-let-most-stay/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a>.
“These numbers are further proof that the Biden-Harris administration’s policies have nothing to do with actually securing the border or enforcing the law, but instead masking its utter refusal to do either of those things,” Republican Rep. Mark Green, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, told the Post.
“Such a dismal rate of removals makes clear that President Biden, ‘border czar’ Kamala Harris, and now-impeached DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas are committed to ignoring U.S. immigration law, while attempting to hide that fact from the American people. Ultimately, these individuals have a simple responsibility — detain and remove those who have no lawful basis to remain,” he said.
The Biden administration announced the family removal program in May 2023 as a way of streamlining the deportation process of aliens who immigrated illegally into the U.S. with children. The program was designed to facilitate keeping families together during the deportation process.
The program’s effectiveness was undercut by significant exceptions, however, according to the Post. The program was also a <a href="https://jayapal.house.gov/2024/01/11/jayapal-barragan-inquiry-reveals-2-6-of-immigrant-families-in-removal-process-have-legal-counsel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">target</a> of progressives, such as Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington. Groups such as the National Immigrant Justice Center <a href="https://immigrantjustice.org/research-items/explainer-too-fast-fairness-expedited-removal-and-family-expedited-removal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resisted</a> the program as well.
The Biden administration’s efforts at combating illegal immigration have tended toward expanding legal immigration pathways, such as through immigration parole, rather than through enhanced border protection and deportation.
The administration paused one major parole program earlier this month after allegations of fraud. The Department of Homeland Security froze a program that has allowed 30,000 immigrants a month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela (CHNV) to be paroled into the U.S. The action came after the Federation for American Immigration Reform published a <a href="https://www.fairus.org/press-release/fair-uncovers-internal-dhs-report-indicating-illegal-biden-harris-cuba-haiti" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> calling the program “riddled with fraud.”
Green said in a <a href="https://homeland.house.gov/2024/08/02/chairman-green-on-dhs-temporarily-halting-unlawful-chnv-mass-parole-program-vindicates-every-warning-we-have-issued/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> that the report “vindicates every warning we have ever issued about the unlawful CHNV mass-parole program.”
“This is exactly what happens when you create an unlawful mass-parole program in order to spare your administration the political embarrassment and bad optics of overrun borders. The Biden-Harris administration should terminate the CHNV program immediately,” Green said.

Biden-Harris Deportation Program Has Sent Away Just 10% Of Illegal Aliens Registered: Report

Missouri filed a lawsuit against the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/biden-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biden administration</a> on Tuesday, asking a federal judge to make the Department of Homeland Security produce information on whether illegal immigrants are being flown into the state. 
In the suit, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey <a href="https://ago.mo.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024.07.29-Missouri-v.-Department-of-Homeland-Security-Complaint.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">says</a> that DHS has been stonewalling Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for data on the transportation of illegal immigrants within the United States. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, requests that a federal judge compel DHS to turn over the requested documents and communications. 
“Once again, the Biden Administration is trying to stonewall and circumvent every aspect of the law in order to hide information from Americans,” Bailey said. “Their most recent refusal to provide the truth about the flying of illegal immigrants into Missouri is just the tip of the iceberg. It reflects a larger pattern of deploying delay and diversion tactics to avoid producing documents legally requested under FOIA.”
In its June 2022 FOIA, Missouri requested that DHS provide “communications and documents relating to the number of planes used to transport non-citizens from Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas into or within the interior United States.”
Bailey also requested “communications and documents relating to the transportation of non-citizens on aircraft into or within the State of Missouri.”
The lawsuit says that this request has been met with “federal interference,&#8221; saying that DHS gave a belated response to his request for documents with denial based on a “clearly erroneous reading” of the FOIA. 
According to the lawsuit, the request was transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which said Missouri appeared to be seeking “every email” either sent or received by ICE Air, the agency&#8217;s transportation division. ICE then noted that the request was too broad. 
“This game of hide and seek’ violates the spirit and the letter of FOIA, which states that an agency shall withhold information only when the agency ‘reasonably foresees that disclosure would harm an interest protected by an exemption’ or if ‘disclosure is prohibited by law,’” the lawsuit says. 
A revised FOIA was submitted in March, but Bailey said the state has not received any communications from DHS.
“The transportation of illegal immigrants into Missouri is a matter of public concern, and the citizens of Missouri have a right to know the facts behind these activities,” the lawsuit says. “The DHS withholding crucial information has restricted the ability of citizens to exercise their rights as outlined by Congress in the FOIA statute.”
Missouri wants the court to declare that DHS violated FOIA law and for the department to produce the documents within 10 business days of the court’s order.

As a senator, Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kamala Harris</a> pushed for Congress to restrict the Department of Homeland Security’s capacity to hold and detain illegal immigrants caught crossing into the United States.
The push came years before immigration officials began releasing thousands of illegal immigrants, including those with criminal records, into the United States, because of a record-level surge in immigration during the Biden-Harris administration. 
Back in July 2019, Harris introduced legislation that would block DHS from constructing more facilities to detain illegal immigrants. According to a <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/2221?s=2&amp;r=35">summary</a> of the bill, it would prohibit DHS “from using any federal funds to construct or expand immigration detention facilities and requires additional oversight of such facilities.”
Additionally, the bill would have made DHS come up with a plan to reduce the number of available beds for illegal immigrants and come up with “community-based alternatives to detention.”
She had <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/2849?s=10&amp;r=124">introduced</a> a similar bill back in May 2018 that also aimed to reduce the capacity for federal authorities to detain illegal immigrants.
If her legislation had succeeded, it likely would have exacerbated the illegal immigration crisis during the Biden administration as an estimated 10 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States.
Over the last few years, there have been reports of thousands of illegal immigrants being released because of limited detention space.
Thousands of illegal immigrants, including those with criminal records, were released in May 2023 ahead of an expected surge of illegal crossings because of the end of Title 42, the Washington Times <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/may/9/ice-released-hundreds-criminals-clear-space-border/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Title 42 was a Trump-era policy that allowed illegal immigrants to be turned back because of health concerns.

The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/10/11/13000-migrants-released-onto-streets-of-san-diego-as-shelter-space-runs-out/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that 13,000 illegal immigrants were released onto the streets of San Diego last October because of limited shelter space.
Since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, Harris has come under increasing scrutiny from conservatives, especially for her record as Biden’s “border czar.”
Republicans have pointed to Biden’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/media-denies-that-kamala-harris-was-bidens-border-czar-amid-unprecedented-illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a> in March 2021 giving Harris authority to respond to the crisis. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/speaker-johnson-visits-the-border-says-kamala-harris-is-to-blame-for-illegal-immigration-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">traveled</a> to the border on Thursday, saying that the crisis had been “engineered” by the Biden-Harris administration.

The Department of Homeland Security has refused to follow a law mandating it take DNA samples from illegal immigrants taken into custody, which would identify violent criminals and child traffickers, employees told the U.S. Senate this week.
Speaking to senators on Tuesday, three former officials presented evidence that DHS and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had blocked their efforts to comply with a 2005 law, then retaliated against them when they sounded the alarm about the lawbreaking.
“Given the enormous potential of DNA collection to facility solving crimes, we took our job seriously,” Fred Wynn said.
Law enforcement experts from CBP’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) unit were tasked with implementing a mandatory program to DNA-test illegals. But higher-ups at DHS were so opposed to the law that they continuously thwarted it, eventually disbanding the entire WMD division, the whistleblowers say. Disbanding the division may have opened the United States to a WMD attack, in addition to criminals crossing the border.
The lack of DNA testing also contributed to allowed hundreds of thousands of children to stay with people who claimed to be relatives, but who may have been child labor or sex traffickers. DNA testing is the only reliable way to ensure that children aren’t coming across the border with traffickers, or being taken to live with them by U.S. officials as “sponsors.”
Mark Jones, previously the acting director of CBP&#8217;s WMD unit, said that “the DNA tool is invaluable especially when establishing family units.” More than half a million “unaccompanied minors” have crossed the border illegally and been allowed to remain in the country, and are “reunited” with people purporting to be their relatives, who have sometimes been traffickers.
Jones said the WMD team had its responsibilities stripped, and were told to come to work and simply sit and do nothing. One team member was told to report to a new desk that had no internet, phone, or power.
“Certain senior officials were hell-bent on slow-rolling any process or pilot program that enabled DNA collection,” he said.
In 2018, Jones heard the special assistant to the Customs and Border Protection chief say that &#8220;the Commissioner does not want to do this,” while another official said, “if we have to, we will get the press to capture us forcibly taking DNA from an 89-year old woman to garner outrage,” he said.
That year, DHS “shut down the DNA collection pilot program and disbanded the WMD division,” and Jones was demoted three levels, he said.
Mike Taylor, the third WMD whistleblower, said the men have repeatedly reached out to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, but have received no corrective action. Meanwhile, those who retaliated against the men have been promoted.
Congress passed a law requiring the DNA testing of criminals and illegal immigrants in 2005, with near-unanimous bipartisan support. In 2010, the year the requirement kicked in, Barack Obama’s DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder asking for a postponement, writing that “we intend to phase-in implementation over the next year.” Holder acquiesced, with an admonishment that DHS should work quickly.
Ten years later, DHS had simply not done it, and cited the memo from Holder as evidence that it has been exempted from following the law.
In August 2019, the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), a federal agency that investigates whistleblower disclosures and retaliation, <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/osc_cbp_report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> that DHS&#8217;s &#8220;noncompliance with the law has allowed subjects subsequently accused of violent crimes, including homicide and sexual assault, to elude detection even when detained multiple times by CBP.”
The report points to an illegal immigrant who committed multiple sexual assaults in Arizona in 1997. Though police had the DNA of the perpetrator, they could not find a match, since the suspect was not in the system. The crime was only solved in 2019 because the suspect went on to go to prison for another crime, at which point he had his DNA taken.
In 2021, OSC found that DHS <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/grassley_to_dhs_-_whistleblower_retaliation.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">retaliated</a> against the whistleblowers due to “displeasure with the Complainants’ perceived and actual involvement in bringing to light the agency’s intentional, decade-long failure to implement a law.”
The office lambasted DHS for lawbreaking and retaliation in the strongest possible terms, and said DHS had given shifting excuses that were demonstrably untrue.
Nonetheless, the retaliation continued. In 2022, DHS took Jones’ and Taylor’s badges, guns, and law enforcement credentials. Taylor lost his law enforcement retirement pension despite his having nearly reached the required 20 years of service.
In 2023, DHS sought to make the whistleblowers’ claims out to be a conspiracy theory with another misleading statement, telling the <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/08/29/cbp-demoted-whistleblowers-who-revealed-dna-collection-failure/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a> that “The Office of Special Counsel (OSC) terminated its investigation into these claims without issuing a Prohibited Personnel Practice Report or seeking corrective action.”
Recently, CBP has engaged in limited DNA testing of illegals—37% in fiscal year 2023. Even with that subset, it matched with the DNA of 1,037 violent criminals. Illegal immigrant DNA was responsible for 42% of all crimes solved using the FBI’s DNA database.
But that meant that nearly two million illegals in DHS custody did not get DNA swabbed that year. Jones noted that “we likely missed over 1,600 violent criminals in 2023 alone” based on the match rate of the smaller sample.
So far in fiscal year 2024, DNA testing of illegal immigrants has matched the DNA of people wanted in 10 homicides and 145 sex offenses.
The limited DNA testing belatedly implemented by DHS has been carried out in a way that ensures it won’t stop known violent criminals from being allowed to stay in the country. Although the technology exists to take and process a cheek swab on site in 90 minutes, DHS mails the samples to FBI headquarters and gets the results back months later. By that time, the illegal immigrants have already been released.
Failing to use rapid, on-site technology means the DNA samples will only be useful in identifying the illegal aliens if they commit crimes in the future.
The more illegal immigrants are tracked with their DNA, the more crimes they are tied to—an uncomfortable fact for Democrats who claim that illegal immigrants do not commit crimes.
Last month, a man wielding a machete tied up and sexually assaulted <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-alien-who-came-in-under-biden-admits-to-raping-young-girl-prosecutors-say#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">two 13-year-old girls in</a> New York City. DNA from the victims tied the crime to Christian Inga, an illegal immigrant who was swabbed when he crossed the border in 2021.
Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five, was raped and murdered last year. Charged in her death was <a href="https://www.ksby.com/us-news/crime/alleged-killer-of-maryland-mother-of-5-rachel-morin-gets-trial-date-facing-life-sentence" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Victor Martinez-Hernandez</a>, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who was also suspected of a homicide there. Maryland police had a DNA sample of the perpetrator, but nothing to compare it to. Although Hernandez had been captured at the border three times, his DNA was never taken.
Maryland police ultimately identified Hernandez by comparing his DNA to that of his relatives.
Tuesday’s congressional panel was conducted by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI). The senators held the hearing as an unofficial “roundtable,&#8221; as Democrats, who control the Senate, refused to participate.
Grassley said the Biden administration has refused to respond to his oversight inquiries on the topic. Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running for president and has positioned herself as a tough-on-crime prosecutor, was tasked by Biden with managing issues related to the border.

Even by the nonexistent standards of America&#8217;s bloated and now-leaderless federal bureaucracy, it&#8217;s hard to believe that former Pepsi executive Kimberly Cheatle held onto her job for as long as she did. Cheatle is the director of the Secret Service, the agency that allowed a 20-year-old assassin to shoot the leading presidential candidate in the head just ten days ago. Or she was the director. It was just announced this morning that she is resigning from her position, finally.
It took a while, despite the fact that both parties, and Cheatle herself, readily admit that the best-case scenario here is that the Secret Service displayed stratospheric levels of incompetence — ineptitude so profound that it very nearly changed the course of world history. And yet Cheatle remained in office. In fact, Cheatle&#8217;s boss at D.H.S. said he has &#8220;100 percent&#8221; confidence in her. On top of that, Cheatle hasn&#8217;t fired or even disciplined a single employee of the Secret Service.
At a minimum, we are witnessing a staggering level of bureaucratic dysfunction. And after Cheatle&#8217;s testimony yesterday at the House oversight committee, there&#8217;s reason to think we&#8217;re seeing something even more sinister than that. Cheatle should resign. She should have resigned the day after Trump was nearly killed. But the way that she resigned, and the timing, only lends more credence to the idea that there’s a cover up going on. I’ll explain why.
Let’s begin with what happened on capitol hill yesterday. Throughout several hours of testimony, Cheatle acted more like a criminal with something to hide than the head of a government agency who has a legal duty to comply with a congressional subpoena. Cheatle refused to answer even basic questions about the attempt on Donald Trump&#8217;s life in Butler, Pennsylvania. These are questions that any competent investigator would have been able to answer within 24 hours of the shooting. These are questions that, in some cases, Cheatle said she knew the answer to — but she still refused to provide an answer to the committee. Again and again, Cheatle stonewalled. It was almost as if she wanted to avoid providing any information that could possibly be contradicted later, if the official narrative should have to change. Short of outright admitting that the assassination attempt was an inside job, Kimberly Cheatle could not possibly have done more to validate the so-called &#8220;conspiracy theories&#8221; surrounding what happened in Butler.
If the DOJ cared even slightly about the appearance of fairness and impartial justice, they&#8217;d immediately charge Kimberly Cheatle with evading her subpoena. Steve Bannon&#8217;s in jail for supposedly failing to comply with a subpoena, after all. And that&#8217;s precisely what Kimberly Cheatle did yesterday. We know that because she admitted it. Listen to this exchange between Cheatle and congresswoman Lisa McClain of Michigan. First, McClain gets Cheatle to acknowledge that she&#8217;s spoken to the FBI about their investigation into the assassination. Then the congresswoman asks Cheatle whether the FBI has determined how many shell casings were found on the roof, next to the shooter&#8217;s dead body. Watch:

This is one of the most basic questions of the entire investigation. It should have been disclosed to the public in a press conference within a day of the shooting: How many shell casings were on the roof with the shooter? There&#8217;s no conceivable, legitimate reason why the government would want to hide this information. But here we are, nine days later, and the head of the Secret Service won&#8217;t tell us. She admits she knows the truth. But she&#8217;s defying a congressional subpoena and refusing to talk about it anyway.
The number of shell casings on the roof is a critical piece of information. It would obviously give us insight into how many times the shooter fired from that particular rooftop. If the number of shell casings doesn&#8217;t match the number of shots we can hear from footage of the rally, then there&#8217;s a major problem with the official narrative. It could mean that the crime scene was tampered with. Or it could mean that there was more than one shooter, beyond the one who&#8217;s already been identified.
If those possibilities sound outlandish, take a look at Cheatle&#8217;s response to this question from congressman Andy Biggs. He asks her point-blank whether the shooter was acting alone. Watch:

Again, this should not be a difficult question to answer. She could say, &#8220;Yes, it seems he was acting alone.&#8221; Or she could say &#8220;We think he had help.&#8221; Or she could say she&#8217;s genuinely not sure at this point. Instead, she refuses to provide any kind of answer whatsoever. She says she has no information she can provide, and that the congressman should talk to the FBI. And of course, the FBI won&#8217;t answer the question either. This is the kind of bureaucratic runaround you&#8217;d expect to get when you try to cancel your phone plan. And it&#8217;s how the federal government is handling the investigation into the most serious attempt on the life of a presidential candidate (and former president) in decades.

Again, it&#8217;s hard to conceive of any innocent reason why she would decline to answer these questions if the answers line up with the official narrative. It shouldn&#8217;t take anywhere near this long to have some answers to these questions, even if those answers are tentative. Think of how quickly the police charged Jennifer and James Crumbley with involuntary manslaughter. Those were the parents who allowed their son to access their handgun, which he then used to commit a school shooting. They were charged in less than a week. Why haven&#8217;t police charged the parents who allowed the Trump assassin to access their rifle? Have the authorities been looking at anyone else to charge who might have helped him? Why don&#8217;t we have any answers to any of these questions?
Right now, we&#8217;re learning more from investigators on social media than we are from the Secret Service. Yesterday, for example, the &#8220;Oversight Project&#8221; — part of the Heritage Foundation — took a look at databases of mobile advertising data. They <a href="https://x.com/OversightPR/status/1815446057829974267">found</a> that: &#8220;Someone who regularly visited [the shooters&#8217;] home and work also visited a building in Washington, DC located in Gallery Place. This is in the same vicinity of an @FBI office on June 26, 2023.&#8221;
Who is that person who links the shooter&#8217;s home to an area in Washington, D.C. near a mall and an FBI field office? We have no idea. It could be nothing. It could be significant. But the more the Secret Service stonewalls on basic questions, the more people are entitled to come up with their own theories and conduct their own investigation. That piece of reporting from the Heritage Foundation — whether it pans out or not — is more believable than anything Kimberly Cheatle said yesterday. She spent 95% of the time dodging every question she was asked.
In fact, at several points, Cheatle simply lied under oath. She didn&#8217;t just filibuster, or give the typical bureaucratic runaround. She actually lied. For example, here&#8217;s her answer when she was asked about the Secret Service&#8217;s DEI hiring policies. Watch:

&#8220;Everyone who moves through the application process has to meet the same standards to become a special agent.&#8221; That&#8217;s what the Secret Service director said under oath.
It&#8217;s not remotely true. Anyone with Google can verify that it&#8217;s not true. Female trainees in the Secret Service have drastically lower fitness <a href="https://x.com/eyeslasho/status/1812504684571099618" target="_blank" rel="noopener">standards</a> than male trainees. For example, the Secret Service considers it &#8220;excellent&#8221; if a 29 year-old male applicant can complete 55 or more pushups. They&#8217;ll get maximum points on their fitness test, which is critical for getting the job. But a 29-year-old female applicant receives the same &#8220;excellent&#8221; score if she can complete just 40 pushups. The cut-off for a &#8220;good&#8221; score for a 29-year-old male is 46 pushups, while a woman can achieve a &#8220;Good score&#8221; with just 26 pushups.
In other words, the director of the Secret Service lied under oath. There&#8217;s no conceivable way that she&#8217;s not aware of her agency&#8217;s hiring standards. To the extent Kimberly Cheatle has done anything during her tenure, she&#8217;s been pushing DEI hiring. She stated publicly that she wants 30 percent of the agency to be female. And she understands that one way to achieve that result is to have lower standards for women. But when she&#8217;s asked about this under oath, she just denies it outright. She knows no one&#8217;s going to come after her for perjury.
I could go through the rest of Cheatle&#8217;s testimony, which isn&#8217;t any better than what I&#8217;ve shown you. At one point, Cheatle admits that she still hasn&#8217;t even visited the shooting site in Butler. That&#8217;s how little she cares. She also refused to explain why no one was guarding the roof where the shooter was positioned — saying only that there was some kind of &#8220;overwatch&#8221; on the roof, which clearly didn&#8217;t work. Cheatle also admitted that somehow she doesn&#8217;t have a timeline of events from that day. This was one of the moments during her testimony when people in the room burst out laughing at how absurd it was. Watch:

&#8220;I have a timeline that does not have specifics.&#8221; So she just showed up and winged it basically. It&#8217;s like watching an actor who was told to play the head of the Secret Service for a day. If you found some random woman off the street, and told her to stonewall Congress about the assassination attempt, how would the results be any different than this?
Separately, Cheatle said she didn&#8217;t sign off on the security plan for the event because she doesn&#8217;t sign off for the security plans at any events. When asked for the name of the person who did sign off on the security plan for the Butler rally, she wouldn&#8217;t say. In fact, she implied that many people sign off on these plans, so no single person can be blamed. It&#8217;s a classic bureaucratic coverup. Cheatle also refused to talk about all the times that the Secret Service turned down the Trump campaign&#8217;s requests for additional security. And on and on.
But there&#8217;s one more clip that is very important to see. It&#8217;s AOC going after Kimberly Cheatle. Online, a lot of people on the Right are praising AOC for this performance. But along with Mike Cernovich, I think it reveals something a lot more troubling than it appears. Watch:

AOC wasn&#8217;t the only Democrat to rip into Cheatle like this. Several Democrats did the same thing. And there&#8217;s two possible interpretations for that. One is that the security failures were so bad that Democrats are putting aside politics for the first time in modern history. They&#8217;re just as outraged as Trump supporters. 
The other interpretation, however, is that whenever AOC agrees with the entire Republican caucus, we should take a step back and think about what&#8217;s going on. Maybe Kimberly Cheatle was sent out there to testify in order to serve as a sacrificial lamb. Maybe the point of this hearing was for both Democrats and Republicans to beat her up like a piñata. And then, when she inevitably resigns, members of both parties will feel like justice has been done. The problem has been solved. A replaceable cog in the bureaucratic machine has been removed. The implication would be: No need to look higher. No need to investigate any other connections this shooter may have had with the government. The problem is taken care of. And that seems to be exactly what happened. They knew they were going to force her resignation. But they had her testify to congress first. That way she could stonewall, absorb all the blame, and then leave. Now they can put someone else in charge of the agency who will not have to answer any questions at all. 
That can&#8217;t be the end of it, though. For lack of a better word, these are very strange times right now in this country. It&#8217;s not even clear who&#8217;s running the federal government. We don&#8217;t know who has the authority to fire Kimberly Cheatle. The president of the United States is technically her boss. But he hasn&#8217;t been seen in public for several days. He allegedly just phoned into a rally for Kamala Harris, but no one could see his face. After weeks of insisting he&#8217;s not dropping out of the race, now he&#8217;s suddenly issuing full-throated endorsements for his running mate. Meanwhile the president&#8217;s brother is suggesting Biden doesn&#8217;t have long to live. And the press is pretending this is all completely normal.
But none of this is normal. We still don&#8217;t understand what just happened to Joe Biden. And from Kimberly Cheatle&#8217;s testimony, it looks like we may never know what happened in Butler, either. At the very least, the government won&#8217;t tell us. It&#8217;s hard to think of a stronger argument for completely dismantling the federal government bureaucracy if and when Donald Trump gets back into office. Even assuming they&#8217;re not actively trying to sabotage this country — which is quite an assumption at this point — then at the very least, these bureaucrats so incompetent that they&#8217;re destroying any faith that Americans have in the proper functioning of their government. 
Mediocre men and women like Kimberly Cheatle are leading pretty much every federal agency in this country. And just like Joe Biden, these bureaucrats can&#8217;t be reasoned with. They can&#8217;t be shamed. They won&#8217;t go anywhere unless they&#8217;re forced to.

The Homeland Security Department&#8217;s (DHS) inspector general is investigating how the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/secret-service" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Secret Service</a> handled security at the campaign rally where former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> survived an assassination attempt.
A brief <a href="https://www.oig.dhs.gov/node/7014" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> posted to the independent watchdog&#8217;s website on Wednesday said the objective of the inquiry was to evaluate the Secret Service&#8217;s &#8220;process for securing&#8221; the campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. DHS is the Secret Service&#8217;s parent agency.
The office also <a href="https://www.oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/assets/pr/2024/071724-dhs-oig-usss-press-release.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a press release that it &#8220;initiated a review of USSS Counter Sniper Team preparedness and operations&#8221; with the objective &#8220;to determine the extent to which the Secret Service Counter Sniper Team is prepared for, and responds to, threats at events attended by designated protectees.&#8221;
Questions <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/14/politics/secret-service-faces-serious-questions-about-security-footprint-and-rooftop-access-at-trump-event/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have been raised</a> about how a shooter, identified as a 20-year-old Pennsylvania man named Thomas Matthew Crooks, managed to get onto a nearby rooftop and begin shooting from roughly 150 yards away with <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/07/15/thomas-crooks-trump-assassination-investigation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an AR-style rifle</a> before the Secret Service could stop him.
A bullet ripped through Trump&#8217;s right ear. Secret Service personnel then rushed to the former president to offer him protection and killed the shooter. One rallygoer was killed, and two others were injured in the attack.
President Joe Biden has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-orders-thorough-and-swift-investigation-after-attempted-assassination-at-rally-confirms-he-spoke-with-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> an &#8220;independent review of national security&#8221; and the FBI is <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/news/press-releases/update-on-the-fbi-investigation-of-the-attempted-assassination-of-former-president-donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigating</a> the shooting as &#8220;potential domestic terrorism,&#8221; with the agency saying it has gained access to the shooter&#8217;s phone, conducted a search of his home and vehicle, and conducted dozens of interviews.
While Congress is <a href="https://x.com/MZanona/status/1813574960897810518" target="_blank" rel="noopener">briefed</a> by the Secret Service this week, Director Kimberly Cheatle, who was <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/08/24/statement-from-president-biden-on-the-appointment-of-kimberly-cheatle-to-be-the-next-director-of-the-united-states-secret-service/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appointed</a> to the role by Biden in 2022, is expected to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/secret-service-director-to-appear-for-public-hearing-on-trump-assassination-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">testify</a> about the attack in a public hearing before a House panel on Monday. House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) <a href="https://x.com/RepJamesComer/status/1813631155071008786" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoenaed</a> her on Wednesday.
Cheatle is already facing calls to resign from Republican lawmakers, but in an <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-rally-shooting-unacceptable-secret-service-director-abc-exclusive/story?id=111962314" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview with ABC News</a>, she declared that she would not step down even as she took responsibility for what she described as the &#8220;unacceptable&#8221; shooting.
&#8220;The buck stops with me,&#8221; Cheatle told ABC News Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas on Monday. &#8220;I am the director of the Secret Service, and I need to make sure that we are performing a review and that we are giving resources to our personnel as necessary.&#8221;
Cheatle further stated that the Secret Service was responsible for the &#8220;inner perimeter&#8221; at the rally, while the agency &#8220;sought assistance from our local counterparts for the outer perimeter&#8221; of the area.
&#8220;There was local police in that building&#8221; on which the shooter staged the attack, Cheatle said, adding that &#8220;there was local police in the area that were responsible for the outer perimeter of the building.&#8221;
She said that particular building &#8220;has a sloped roof, at its highest point. And so, there&#8217;s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn&#8217;t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof. And so, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.&#8221;

House lawmakers are pressing Homeland Security Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alejandro-mayorkas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alejandro Mayorkas</a> to give them answers on security lapses that allowed a would-be-assassin to shoot former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) sent a <a href="https://homeland.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/2024-07-14-Green-to-Mayorkas-DHS-re-Assassination-Attempt-on-President-Trump.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to Mayorkas on Sunday asking him to explain how 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to gain access to a rooftop and take several shots at Trump. The attack injured the former president and two other rally attendees, and left 50-year-old Corey Comperatore dead. 
“The seriousness of this security failure and chilling moment in our nation’s history cannot be understated,” Green wrote. “No assassination attempt has come so close to taking the life of a president or presidential candidate since President Reagan was shot in 1981. Had the bullet’s trajectory been slightly different, the assassination attempt on President Trump might have succeeded.”
During the attack, a bullet grazed Trump, taking out a portion of his ear and bloodying his face. After hearing gunfire, Trump dropped to the ground and was covered by Secret Service agents. 
Green said the fact that the gunman was able to get on a rooftop and get clear shots off at Trump showed a major security lapse. 
“This raises serious concerns regarding how a shooter was able to access a rooftop within range and direct line of sight of where President Trump was speaking,” Green said. “Additionally, some reporting, suggests that the Department of Homeland Security (Department) ‘rebuffed’ multiple requests from President Trump’s security detail to increase protective resources in the weeks preceding this event.”
In light of that information, Green is asking Mayorkas to provide documentation showing Secret Service plans to secure the venue prior to the rally and information on protocol about dealing with a potential assassin. He also requested information on whether Trump was denied additional security before the attack. 
Green additionally asked Homeland Security to provide a briefing about the assassination attempt by July 22.  
During a White House briefing on Monday, Mayorkas said that he was thankful for the quick response of the Secret Service to the attack. He said that the attack was “unacceptable” and that securing the safety of Trump and President Joe Biden was one of the agency’s most vital priorities. 
Other House Republicans are seeking to question Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle over the assassination attempt. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) <a href="https://x.com/RepJamesComer/status/1812912461659664608" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> Monday that Cheatle would be testifying in public before the House Oversight Committee.

Lawmakers Demand Mayorkas Provide Answers On Security Lapses Leading Up To Attempted Trump Assassination

America First Legal (AFL) made public a trove of documents that reveal a coordinated effort within the Biden administration to crack down on the free speech of its political opponents, according to the conservative law group.
AFL obtained the <a href="https://media.aflegal.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/10093811/AFL-Obtained-DHS-FACA-Docs.pdf">documents</a> through legal action taken against the Department of Homeland Security  (DHS) over its now-defunct Homeland Intelligence Experts Group. The group coordinated with an advisory body led by former intelligence officials John Brennan and James Clapper on ways to <a href="https://aflegal.org/exclusive-new-docs-reveal-the-brennan-clapper-led-dhs-committee-proposed-americans-report-neighbors-to-the-feds/">combat</a> “domestic terrorism,” which includes cracking down on political dissent, according to AFL.
“The American people need to read these records and our exposé of the Biden Administration’s efforts to further weaponize the government to achieve their objectives. This ‘committee,’ stacked with the Administration’s allies, was formed in violation of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, and we were proud to have stopped its activities. Now, it is up to Congress to stop the Biden Administration from further using these same actors to advance their radical agenda at the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis,“ America First Legal Executive Director Gene Hamilton said in a <a href="https://aflegal.org/exclusive-brennan-clapper-intel-group-was-part-of-a-whole-of-government-approach-to-silence-political-dissent-in-the-united-states/">statement</a>.
AFL has released some of the documents over recent weeks as part of a “#DeepStateDiaries” series on how the DHS intelligence group planned to operate, including creating campaigns, working with local authorities to spread its message, and convincing popular podcasters to endorse its aims. The conservative legal group released dozens of pages of emails, notes, and other documents it obtained through the course of litigation over the DHS group on Thursday.
DHS disbanded the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group in May after legal action by AFL. The group was formed in September 2023 to “provide advice and perspectives on intelligence and national security efforts.”
“It was not intended to provide unbiased, expert advice to advance the Department of Homeland Security’s mission,” the AFL in a <a href="https://aflegal.org/victory-biden-dhs-disbands-illegal-homeland-intelligence-experts-group-including-russia-collusion-hoaxers-john-brennan-and-james-clapper-following-lawsuit-filed-by-afl-and/">release</a> announcing the DHS group’s fall. “Instead, it was a deeply partisan group designed to provide top cover for the Department’s radical agenda under Secretary [Alejandro] Mayorkas.”
The DHS group was advised by a body led by Brennan, a former head of the CIA, and Clapper, who served as Director of National Intelligence under former president Barack Obama. Both Brennan and Clapper were signatories to a 2020 letter by intelligence experts that suggested that information gained from Hunter Biden’s laptop, abandoned at a Delaware computer repair store, was likely Russian disinformation.
The laptop has since been independently authenticated numerous times over by various outlets and experts.
