<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/democratic-party" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Democrat</a> staff members who belong to a far-Left caucus wrote a letter to congressional leaders this week asking that they reduce the full-time work week to just 32 hours so that they do not get burned out.
The Congressional Progressive Staff Association, which represents House and Senate employees across the country, claimed that their proposal was about &#8220;a more sustainable approach to work on a national level.&#8221;
&#8220;By adopting a 32-hour workweek for staff on a rotating basis, you can accomplish these goals while retaining the productivity and quality of work you expect and deserve from your team,&#8221; they claimed. &#8220;We urge you to consider piloting the program in your own offices and encouraging your fellow Members across your conference or caucus to do the same.&#8221;
They complained that their jobs working for members of Congress were &#8220;often demanding and intensive.&#8221;
&#8220;Staffers routinely work long hours at a level of rigor that regularly leads to burnout,&#8221; the letter claimed.
The proposal, which was widely mocked online, said that members should institute &#8220;a 32-hour workweek for D.C.-based staff during district work periods and a 32-hour workweek for district-based staff while in-session.&#8221;
&#8220;Doing so — without a reduction in pay — would allow both D.C. and distinct staff to be fully available around the clock throughout more intensive periods when the Member is in town while allowing for a more sustainable schedule when workloads are more manageable,&#8221; they added. &#8220;If implemented, offices are not likely to see a drop in overall productivity.&#8221;

The staffers claimed that members who were skeptical should &#8220;engage in a six-month pilot&#8221; to see if the reduction in hours leads to increased outcomes.
Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT) responded to the letter: &#8220;Members of Congress are always looking to hire and retain the best staff—hard workers who you can count on to go above and beyond on behalf of constituents.&#8221;
&#8220;My advice to these &#8216;progressive staffers&#8217; is simple: find a new industry. Public service is clearly not meant for you,&#8221; he added.
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) responded: &#8220;If progressive hill staffers worked 0 hours per week, it would probably do more to help the Democrats win than anything else they could do.&#8221;

Stacey Plaskett (D), a non-voting Delegate from the U.S. Virgin Islands to the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/congress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House of Representatives</a>, exploded on the House floor on Friday when she was informed that she could not vote for Speaker of the House because she represents a U.S. territory — not a U.S. state.
Plaskett disrupted the vote because she claimed to have a &#8220;parliamentary inquiry.&#8221;
&#8220;I note that the names of the representatives from the Americas, Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia, were not called, representing collectively 4 million Americans,&#8221; she said.
Other members interrupted her, leading her to seemingly acknowledging that her parliamentary inquiry was a stunt.
&#8220;Have some respect. It&#8217;s not going to take&#8211;&#8221; she responded to the other House members.
&#8220;I asked why they were not called from the parliamentarian, please,&#8221; she said.
The House official correctly noted that Delegates-elect and the Resident Commissioner-elect are not qualified to vote.

Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) slammed the Democratic Party in an interview over the weekend for being &#8220;extreme&#8221; and &#8220;toxic.&#8221;
Manchin made the remarks during a Sunday interview with CNN when asked why he decided to leave the party that he has belonged to for decades.
&#8220;I am not a Democrat in the form of what the Democratic Party has turned itself into,&#8221; Manchin said. &#8220;The national brand. Absolutely not.&#8221;
He said he told members of the party that they needed to ask themselves why a lifelong Democrat like him left the party when he and his whole family have supported them for generations.
&#8220;The brand got so bad. The D brand has been so maligned from the standpoint of — it&#8217;s just — it&#8217;s toxic,&#8221; he said.
Manchin said that he takes the Constitution very seriously and he believes in protecting the rights of everyone, even those who are in a fringe minority.
He said though that even though he would fight for everyone&#8217;s rights he did not want to be gaslit into believing that those on the fringe extremes were &#8220;the norm&#8221; and he did not want those views imposed on children.
&#8220;I will protect you. Just don&#8217;t try to mainstream it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And the Democratic Party, the Washington Democrats, have tried to mainstream the extreme.&#8221;
He said that in doing so, Democrats have infringed on people&#8217;s right to make their own decisions about what&#8217;s best for their lives.
&#8220;It&#8217;s the mindset of the left, the progressive left, which was always a minority,&#8221; he said.

Politico reported that Hogg has told reporters that he is “seriously considering” running for DNC Vice Chair.

There was an attempt at a military dictatorship in South Korea in which the president of South Korea issued a command for martial law. It was reversed hours later, but what exactly was going on there? 
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is a member of a party that controls the presidency but is in the minority in the actual parliament of the country. He claimed the majority in the parliament (a party called the Democratic Party in South Korea) is basically a tool of the North Koreans, citing them to be crypto-communists preventing the functioning of the government. 
Essentially, the Democratic Party of South Korea, which represents a large majority in the National Assembly, has been threatening and attempting to impeach the state prosecutors who are looking into the Democratic Party leadership. The prosecutors were supposed to be looking into the family of the president of South Korea, and they had apparently decided to exonerate the president’s wife. Meanwhile, the same prosecutors were additionally looking into the leadership of the Democratic Party regarding corruption charges. In turn, the Democratic Party attempted to impeach these prosecutors.

So, the South Korean president looked at the opposition party (which controls the National Assembly) and contended they were attempting to clean out the prosecutorial part of the government in order to protect themselves or weaponize it against him. Therefore, he would declare martial law. 
The South Korean parliament voted unanimously to defy the country&#8217;s president and lift his martial law declaration.  
But there’s something deeper happening here. 
This sort of constitutional crisis is now taking place in a variety of countries. It’s happening in Israel, where there are fights between the prosecutorial wing of the government and the government of Benjamin Netanyahu. It&#8217;s happening in Hungary, where they&#8217;ve been fighting over state prosecutors. It&#8217;s happening in Brazil, where Lula da Silva, the authoritarian Left-wing leader of the country, is now attempting to militarize the justice system against Jair Bolsonaro, his predecessor. And, of course, there are shades of this in the United States. 
Why, exactly, is all this happening right now? 
To understand that, we must understand the role of the prosecutorial system in democratic republics, because that has changed over time. And this has implications, by the way, for everything, up to and including the Hunter Biden pardon and the Biden DOJ weaponizing itself against Donald Trump.
Democratic republics typically rely on checks and balances to prevent the government from engaging in authoritarianism; that is the basis of the United States Constitution. The House and the Senate check one another. Both are checked by the presidency, and all three of those bodies are checked by the judiciary and vice versa. 
Traditionally, one of the checks and balances to avoid tyranny was impeachment. If you didn&#8217;t like members of the government or you suspected that members of the government were corrupt, a bipartisan majority would work to oust those corrupt officials. 
This is obviously problematic when it comes to getting rid of corrupt officials because if the corrupt official happens to be a member of your party, then you are very unlikely to vote for their impeachment. 
In Democratic republics, the question of how to police corruption is a very real question if there is a corrupt public official. The United States Constitution says that person is impeached in the House, and then there is a full trial in the Senate. 
When the Constitution was designed, Alexander Hamilton and the rest of the Founding Fathers believed the Senate would be the most objective body. United States senators were not appointed by party or by public approval. They were appointed by the state legislatures, and they served six-year terms. The goal was for them to be more independent of the public passions than the House.
The judiciary could not do it because the judiciary could be hijacked. But the Senate was sort of half political: answerable but also indirectly answerable to the public — and thus more insulated from public pressure.
Hamilton pointed out that setting up a separate impeachment court (which we might now call the DOJ) wouldn&#8217;t actually solve the problem because that, too, could be politicized.
The problem is that over time, in a wide variety of countries, as democratic republics and their checks and balances have transitioned into administrative bureaucracies in which enormous power is centralized in the executive branch, checks and balances have atrophied until Donald Trump was impeached twice. The impeachment power was almost never used by the Congress of the United States, for example.
We made a decision at the outset of the 20th century that was echoed in other burgeoning democracies that law enforcement checking corruption was not to be done by the elected bodies of government. Instead, it was outsourced to so-called independent branches of government.
In the United States, that is the Department of Justice; in South Korea, it is the state prosecutor&#8217;s office; in Brazil, the prosecutors, the police, the judiciary; in Israel, the attorney general, and so forth.
There is a problem that happens here, and this is a problem with the administrative state. The problem is that state prosecutors can also be corrupted by politics, as we have seen in the United States. And then the solution isn&#8217;t to change the people in government anymore, because these are independent branches, and they&#8217;re unelected. It&#8217;s not a matter of replacing some people with other people.
If you fire some people, that&#8217;s considered interference with the magical “objective branch.” If you leave people in place and they target your political opponents, it&#8217;s weaponization.
That&#8217;s what leads to constitutional crises. Once the job of policing corruption from the elected branches of government — like the Senate of the United States or the National Assembly in South Korea — is outsourced to state prosecutors, sooner or later, state prosecutors will attempt to go after the wrong people, the legislature after state prosecutors, or the president after state prosecutors, in order to prevent weaponization.
This is the problem with sending up fake “objective legal enforcement” bodies. It creates constitutional crises because the only solution to a politicized law enforcement branch is to either overthrow the government for interfering with the system, which is what the president of South Korea attempted to do, or to call for the overthrow of the government for weaponizing the system.
Constitutional crises are the result of supposedly untouchable, nonpartisan institutions that can either be weaponized or interfered with.
This is happening across the West. It&#8217;s a major, major problem. It&#8217;s the problem with administrative governments. It&#8217;s a major problem in regards to the idea that it is the job of impartial legal bodies to police corruption.
So democracies are throwing themselves into crisis, specifically over this.
Let&#8217;s say that you are in the United States and you are really, really angry that Donald Trump became president in 2016. What do you do? You could try to impeach him, but it will probably fail if you don&#8217;t have the votes because it&#8217;ll break down along strictly partisan lines. 
What do you do instead? You rely on the DOJ; you rely on the FBI. You weaponize those institutions against Trump. And that prompts Trump, if he becomes president, to clean out those institutions, in which case he will be accused of weaponizing those institutions. And so the constitutional crisis just continues to roll on, all because this sort of bipartisan consensus around impeaching presidents who are guilty of crimes has gone away in the United States. 
You could say it died during the Clinton era. And the United States is now feeling the aftereffects. 
The same is true in Israel. In Israel, the attorney general&#8217;s office has put Benjamin Netanyahu under three separate prosecutions; all of them appear to be somewhat specious. The goal is obviously political. Netanyahu has been in power for some 14 of the last 15 years in Israel. He&#8217;s a masterful Machiavellian politician, just in pure, raw talent terms. And so the attorney general&#8217;s office has been weaponized against him, as claims Netanyahu, which I think is largely correct in a wide variety of cases. 
But every time he tries to mess with the prosecution, he&#8217;s accused of tampering with democracy.

Once these institutions are set up as the final arbiter of guilt and innocence, then anyone who tampers with them on either side is then considered a threat to democracy, even if the person who is actually militarizing law enforcement is the person who is in power.
In Brazil, the law enforcement mechanisms have been weaponized by Lula da Silva against Jair Bolsonaro. That means as Lula is cleaning out the judiciary institutions, he&#8217;s being lauded as someone upholding the norms of democracy while he, at the same time, engages in widespread censorship. Instead of corruption being seen as a political issue to be answered by the political branches and eventually the people, because it&#8217;s been outsourced to law enforcement, the law enforcement branch can be routinely corrupted.
Not all that long ago Lula himself had been banned from running because of his own corruption convictions. Then, in 2021, a Left-wing Supreme Court judge annulled his corruption convictions and allowed him to run again. After he ran and won, the Brazilian police formally accused former President Bolsonaro and his aides of an alleged 2022 coup attempt. That happened just last week.
Bolsonaro has said he would fight the case. Meanwhile, Lula is openly consolidating power in the executive branch in wildly anti-democratic ways. But he has been praised by many members of the media as an anti-authoritarian politician. Yet the reality is that Lula has been a close ally of Venezuela&#8217;s Nicolas Maduro, who&#8217;s been a close ally of the Cuban regime. In fact, it&#8217;s rare to find some sort of authoritarian regime that Lula doesn&#8217;t like. From China to Nicaragua, from Iran to Russia, he has cozied up to authoritarians everywhere. But because he&#8217;s a Left-wing authoritarian, the perception is that he&#8217;s not really an authoritarian, even if he engages in widespread censorship.
This is what happens when democratic republics delegate the power to check political opposition to a supposedly objective, nonpartisan branch of government. It&#8217;s not real. It doesn&#8217;t work. Administrative states do not work for precisely this reason because they&#8217;re never dispassionate, ever.
It&#8217;s true in a wide variety of countries, from South Korea to Israel to Hungary to Brazil.
It&#8217;s always a problem.
Again, all of this breakdown is happening because so many people across so many Westernized countries have decided they no longer trust the mechanisms of checks and balances of the democratic republic and, instead, are going to delegate all power to these impartial institutions.
Then, those institutions break down.
And then, the entire country starts to break down.

The threats come a day after the Trump transition team <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-picks-targeted-in-violent-unamerican-threats" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that several of President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s nominees received bomb threats.
Reps. Joe Courtney (D-CT), Jahana Hayes (D-CT), Jim Himes (D-CT), and John Larson (D-CT) all said in statements that their homes were targeted.
The lawmakers released the following statements:

<li>Courtney: &#8220;Early this morning, Mr. Courtney&#8217;s home was targeted with a bomb threat while he and his family were at home to celebrate Thanksgiving. Thanks to the swift and professional response of Vernon Police Chief Marc Petruzzi and Lieutenant Robert Mara, the United States Capitol Police, and the bomb squad, the Courtneys are safe, and there was no evidence found of a bomb on their property. Joe and Audrey extend their utmost gratitude to the law enforcement officers, whose response should signal to perpetrators that these types of threats will not be tolerated.&#8221;</li>
<li>Hayes: &#8220;At 7:47am I was notified by Chief Edward Stephens of the Wolcott Police Department that they received a threatening email stating a pipe bomb had been placed in the mailbox at my home. State police, U.S. Capitol Police, and the Sergeant at Arms were immediately notified. The Wolcott Police Department and State Police responded and no bomb or explosive materials were discovered and the scene was cleared. At this time the investigation is ongoing. I thank law enforcement for their swift attention to this matter, their actions demonstrate there is no place in our country for political violence. The threats came after the Trump transition team <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-picks-targeted-in-violent-unamerican-threats" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> on Wednesday that several Trump nominees and appointees were targeted &#8220;in violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them,&#8221; according to the transition team.

The Trump team said that the &#8220;dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us.&#8221;
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Trump’s pick to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said she and her family were targeted by a bomb threat.
“This morning, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, her husband, and their three year old son were driving home to Saratoga County from Washington for Thanksgiving when they were informed of a bomb threat to their residence. New York State, County law enforcement, and U.S. Capitol Police responded immediately with the highest levels of professionalism,” Stefanik’s congressional office said in a statement.
“We are incredibly appreciative of the extraordinary dedication of law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe 24/7,” Stefanik’s office added. “We want to share our best wishes to the Upstate NY community for a happy and safe Thanksgiving. We are especially grateful to our law enforcement officers and military families who are on duty over the holiday season.”
Others followed with announcements that they, too, had been targeted.
Former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), Trump’s nominee for EPA administrator, said a “pipe bomb threat targeting me and my family at our home today was sent in with a pro-Palestinian themed message.” He added that his family was not at home at the time and said they are working with law enforcement.
Trump’s pick to lead the Agriculture Department, Brooke Rollins, said on X that on Wednesday morning, “we learned that a threat was issued against our home and family.&#8221; She also thanked the Fort Worth Police Department for their “swift efforts” and noted that she and her family were safe.
Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR), Trump’s selection to be the next secretary of Labor, said she and her family were targeted by a pipe bomb threat at their Oregon home. The congresswoman also thanked the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office for its “quick response” and said they were safe.
Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Scott Turner, said his home was targeted by a bomb threat on the eve of Thanksgiving and expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their “swift and professional” response.
Punchbowl News reported former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Trump’s nominee to be U.S. Attorney General until Gaetz withdrew from consideration last week, received a pipe bomb threat that prompted a bomb squad response in Florida. Fox News reported defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth and CIA director nominee John Ratcliffe also received threats while Bloomberg reported commerce secretary nominee Howard Lutnick’s home in Manhattan received a bomb threat.

Democrats still seem quite troubled about what went wrong in the 2024 election. They keep offering various reasons for the loss. Their reasons range from the failure of the meritocracy, according to David Brooks, to the utter disconnect of the American people involving racism, sexism, bigotry, and homophobia — all of it.
Well, the latest explanation comes courtesy of Kamala Harris&#8217; advisers. According to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/11/20/why-harris-lost-democrats-lessons/">The Washington Post:</a>
<blockquote>Senior officials with Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign say her defeat stemmed primarily from dissatisfaction among voters about the overall direction of the country and discontent over inflation and the economy, arguing that those headwinds proved too strong for Harris to overcome in her sprint to Election Day.</blockquote>
This is a very convenient explanation for Democrats, because it means they don&#8217;t have to change anything. All of this feels like whistling past the political graveyard. It is a refusal to deal with the underlying factors that led to the Democrats getting shellacked across the country.
Well, now we’re getting this same sort of sense from the so-called “resistance.” There&#8217;s a lengthy article in <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/20/us/trump-womens-march-protests-activism.html?searchResultPosition=3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Times</a> discussing Trump&#8217;s resistance encountering fatigue. It turns out that all of the ladies who protested during the first Trump administration are a little frustrated because they&#8217;re not quite sure what to do.
According to The New York Times:
<blockquote>The first Trump presidency spawned the largest protests the country had seen in half a century.
But not everyone wants to participate in another four years of mass movement work. When Women’s March shared information about an upcoming rally on Instagram, one person responded, “No im tired, yall have fun though.” (Women’s March later hid some of the pushback and limited who could respond to a handful of posts.)
On TikTok, plans for the march were met with memes of women saying, “Get somebody else to do it.” “This is an opportunity for a national brunch day for the 93 percent,” said one user, referring to the 93 percent of Black women who exit polls suggested had voted for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Others questioned whether the previous protests had resulted in substantial concessions.</blockquote>
So they&#8217;re realizing that their protest movements have accomplished nothing. But what they refuse to recognize is the reason why those protest movements are accomplishing nothing.
Maybe it&#8217;s because there was at least the patina of legitimacy to many of the causes people were protesting back in the 1960s and 1980s.
And now, as it turns out, the causes they&#8217;re backing are just bad.

And this brings us to the controversy of the day.
Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) has now sponsored a resolution on the floor of the House that is going to be implemented. It suggests that women should be able to use their bathrooms without men with penises in those same bathrooms. 
This seems perfectly legitimate. In fact, this is relatively non-controversial in the regular world. And these transgender bathroom rules are perfectly obvious. There&#8217;s nothing particularly shocking about them. A man should use the men&#8217;s bathroom and a woman should use the women&#8217;s bathroom. Apparently, according to the Left, this is very bad. How dare Nancy Mace. How dare she? 
Mace appeared on Scripps News and during the interview the anchor kept insisting to Mace that she was barring a woman from using the bathrooms, to which Mace responded, “No.” Sarah McBride is a dude whose name was Tim McBride and still has all of the male appendages. In her <a href="https://www.scrippsnews.com/politics/congress/rep-nancy-mace-tells-scripps-news-new-bills-would-limit-bathroom-use-for-transgender-people" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview with Scripps News</a> Mace says a true thing, but an offensively true thing:
<blockquote>Scripps: I just want to add that the congresswoman-elect does identify as a woman. I will be…
Mace: She&#8217;s not a woman. It&#8217;s a man. She was born a man. She&#8217;s a man. She is biologically a male. That is science. You guys on the Left in the mainstream media want to say, “follow the science.” Let&#8217;s follow the science. Okay. He is a man. He can wear a dress. He can call himself, his pronouns can be she or her. But he doesn&#8217;t belong in a women&#8217;s restroom, period.</blockquote>
Again, according to the polling data, most Americans agree with this. This is not a controversial proposition, but the Left can&#8217;t let go of it.
For example, Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has <a href="https://x.com/Acyn/status/1859047222895407475">suggested</a> the real problem is Mace and company, of course:
<blockquote>This is what we&#8217;re doing. This is the lesson that you&#8217;ve drawn from the election in November. This is your priority. If you want to bully a member of Congress as opposed to welcoming her to join this body so that all of us can work together.</blockquote>
The priorities are truth and protection of women. One of the most annoying things about Democratic policy on this particular proposition is that they do something totally abnormal and out of the boundaries of decent human behavior — then, they question when people bring it up.
For his part, Speaker Johnson has put out a <a href="https://mikejohnson.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=1484">statement</a> saying,
<blockquote>All single sex facilities in the Capitol and House office buildings such as restrooms, changing rooms and locker rooms are reserved for individuals of that biological sex.</blockquote>
It&#8217;s also important to note each member’s office has its own private restroom. Unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol. Women deserve women&#8217;s only spaces. Again, perfectly reasonable. There are alternative solutions. 
Despite many of his heterodox positions with his party, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) is still a progressive. He <a href="https://x.com/SenFettermanPA/status/1859316484029259986" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a> out, 
<blockquote>There’s no job I’m afraid to lose if it requires me to degrade anyone. If that’s a defining issue for a voter, there will be a different candidate. We have a bathroom in my office that anybody is welcome to use, including Representative-elect Sarah McBride.</blockquote>
I&#8217;m glad that you want Sarah McBride to use your bathroom. That&#8217;s your choice, senator. Also, you don&#8217;t get to decide whether women ought to have men in their bathroom.

Why does all this matter? Because the reason Democrats lost is the cultural disconnect that the people on the coasts and the Democratic elite have with the rest of America. These are noncontroversial propositions that are made controversial by the Democratic Party.
That is what is happening. And these are belief systems that are held so deeply that even the most elite people in the Democratic Party — people who face no discrimination in America — are now treating the election of Donald Trump and the restoration of some form of normality as a grave threat to them.

Former NBA player <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/charles-barkley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Charles Barkley</a> slammed the Democratic Party in a recent rant about the its losses in the 2024 elections and the subsequent blame-game that it has played in trying to explain why it came up short.
The 61-year-old commentator, who is a staunch <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/charles-barkley-attacks-americans-boycotting-bud-light-rednecks-and-aholes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defender</a> of transgender rights, made the remarks during a recent episode of &#8220;The Steam Room&#8221; podcast with his NBA on TNT co-host Ernie Johnson.
He started his rant by congratulating President-elect Donald Trump on his election victory and wishing him success for his upcoming term in office.
&#8220;I just want to say this to the Democrats, which I&#8217;m an independent who voted Democratic, do me this favor: Shut the f*** up!&#8221; he said.
&#8220;When you win, you get to say what you want to,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;When you lose, you need to shut the hell up.&#8221;
He chided those who were making excuses by saying things like, &#8220;Oh, President Biden, they didn’t get out of the race soon enough,&#8221; or &#8220;Kamala didn’t do this.&#8221;
&#8220;We lost because we had no game plan,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We still haven&#8217;t solved the immigration problem, have no viable answers, never addressed inflation.&#8221;

Actress and Democrat surrogate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liberal-actress-eva-longoria-left-the-country-over-taxes-and-homelessness" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eva Longoria</a> said this past week that she&#8217;s a &#8220;proud American&#8221; and didn&#8217;t leave the country over Donald Trump&#8217;s 2024 election win, despite some headlines saying otherwise.
Longoria&#8217;s comments follow backlash over a recent interview she gave to <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/culture/eva-longoria-nov-2024-cover/">Marie Claire</a>. Notably, the actress dissed &#8220;convicted criminal&#8221; President-elect Trump and acknowledged her supposed privilege for being able to leave the country, which she classified as &#8220;dystopian.&#8221; She also revealed that she&#8217;s been living outside of the U.S. for three years, citing California taxes and homelessness, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liberal-actress-eva-longoria-left-the-country-over-taxes-and-homelessness" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported.
&#8220;Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?&#8221; Longoria told &#8220;The View&#8221; cohost Ana Navarro on Friday, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/eva-longoria-says-trumps-win-not-why-she-left-us-despite-sharing-anxieties-over-his-victory" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Fox News. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been in Europe for almost three years. That’s in the article, by the way, the article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive. Which makes me so sad that everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can&#8217;t be that way right now.&#8221;
&#8220;I didn’t leave because of the political environment,&#8221; Longoria insisted. &#8220;I left because my work took me there.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m a proud American,&#8221; the 49-year-old continued. &#8220;I&#8217;ve always been a proud American. Proud Texan, proud American. I didn&#8217;t want it to be taken that I left because of Trump — absolutely not — or because of the elections.&#8221;

Longoria struck a different tone when recently speaking to Marie Claire, however. She told the magazine that she&#8217;s &#8220;privileged&#8221; and gets to &#8220;escape and go somewhere,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
“If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” Longoria added, referring to Trump.
The Hollywood star also complained about the election results. “The shocking part is not that [Donald] Trump won,” she said. “It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”
Longoria endorsed VP Kamala Harris for president this election cycle and spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

‘I’m A Proud American’: Eva Longoria Strikes New Tone, Says She Didn't Leave Country Over Trump Win

I’m not a professional election strategist. Nor am I a scholar of political campaigns and the psychological tactics behind their success. Despite both these holes in my resume, I’m willing to go out on a massive limb and make a bold statement about the election result we’ve just witnessed: if identity politics isn’t dead, the American people just dealt it a truly devastating blow. Whether you’re a conservative seeking the end of race politics, or a progressive trying to get outside your echo chamber to understand the extent of the electoral shellacking your agenda’s just experienced, it’s time to look at Kamala Harris’ failed campaign and answer the question: is her loss despite her DEI credentials, or because of them?
Let’s start with the basic observations. Kamala Harris was a DEI pick — this term, despite the many accusations of racism attached to it, was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-case-against-kamala-harris-isnt-just-about-dei" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more than deserved</a>. Picked for her gender, and also at the <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/clyburn-calls-democrats-shut-primary-down-if-biden-has-big-n1155131" target="_blank" rel="noopener">behest</a> of advisors urging Joe Biden to pick a black running mate, Harris had the opportunity to rise above both this less-than-ideal recruitment method and also her complete lack of experience running in a general presidential election. She didn’t have to run a DEI campaign. Running a pro-abortion, economically ignorant campaign paired with an <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/10/kamala-harris-is-an-idiot/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inability</a> to articulate basic policy tenets and an unwillingness to handle any audience that wasn’t already in the bag for her would have been enough. But a second look at some of Harris’ closing gambits reveals that the shiny toy of race-baiting was simply too bright to say no to.
Rewind to October, when Harris called in the big guns to deal with her struggles reaching black male voters. And by big guns, I mean the biggest gun — Barack Obama <a href="https://www.npr.org/2024/10/10/g-s1-27633/barack-obama-kamala-harris-black-men-pennsylvania" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attended</a> Harris’ Pittsburgh to issue some tough talk to the Democratic Party’s errant voter base. “My understanding, based on reports I&#8217;m getting, is that we have not yet seen the same kinds of energy and turnout in all quarters… as we saw when I was running,” spat Obama, with the subtlety of a father about to lecture his children about doing chores with a cheerful attitude.
And parental might just be the best term for Obama’s pathos — the former president spoke bitterly about how reluctance to support the foundering Harris campaign “seem[ed] to be more pronounced with the brothers. Part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren&#8217;t feeling the idea of having a woman as president.” Obama continued to beat the dead horse of presumed misogyny, with a side strategy of racial solidarity thrown in for good measure. “Women in our lives have been getting our backs this entire time,” he told the Pittsburgh audience. “When we get in trouble and the system isn’t working for us, they’re the ones out there marching and protesting.” The identitarian beatings from Obama will continue until morale improves.
The message from the Harris campaign through the course of this election cycle has been simple: get over your concerns about the content of this candidate’s character and start judging by the color of her skin already. When criticisms of Harris arose in the past, Biden’s chief of staff was quick to <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/04/27/ron-klain-kamala-harris-sexism-criticism-00094166" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dismiss</a> them as the products of racism and sexism. During the campaign, Harris’ allies like Maryland’s Wes Moore were <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/kamala-harris-racial-and-cultural-background-took-stage-throughout-the-democratic-convention" target="_blank" rel="noopener">quick</a> to tie her electoral fate to America’s racial reckoning. Now, Democratic acolytes like David Axelrod are <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4976151-david-axelrod-donald-trump-kamala-harris-2024-election/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">calling</a> for a renewed look at how racialism influenced Trump’s victory — and conveniently making no mention of how racial obsession landed the Democratic Party with such a profoundly lackluster candidate. Harris, like countless racialist candidates before her, employed the clever dichotomy of race politics. If she won, it was a victory over racism, and more race obsession must follow to root out the racism that remains. If she lost, not only was it indicative of racism from white voters, but apathy from the kind of minority voters that one black Alabama pastor <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc3RXnRrYiQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lambasted</a> as “ignorant stupid negros” on the sign outside his church, in a stunning display of self-aware political persuasion.
The alternative is that maybe, just maybe, the Democratic Party’s racial premises are increasingly being rejected wholesale. Kamala Harris’ campaign failed for the same reason DEI is failing in the modern corporate and academic sphere — it’s becoming profoundly unclear what the value add of mere racial diversity is, taken on its own, to business, academia, or politics. The elevation of pure identity politics, pursued without regard to character or qualification, into the classroom and boardroom has led to widespread mission drift and counterproductive institutional policies. The electoral arena, unsurprisingly, is the same.
Kamala Harris’ campaign held out the weaknesses of identity politics to American voters and threatened 4 years of lecturing if her weaknesses were not rewarded with success. It’s a testament to the character of the American people, of both genders and all races, that they didn’t take that threat seriously.

Liberal comedian <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bill-maher" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bill Maher</a> warned Democrats this week that President Joe Biden&#8217;s insult calling millions of supporters of former President Donald Trump &#8220;garbage&#8221; could be damaging come Election Day next week.
Maher made the remarks on his HBO &#8220;Real Time&#8221; show Friday evening while discussing the fallout over the remarks.
“I think it’s a bigger gaffe than people think,” said Maher. “It’s so funny, Joe Biden, his whole career, he was like Mr. Gaffe, and then here at the very end — he’s like Aaron Judge [in Game 5 of the World Series]. He just f***ing muffed the fly ball and at the end of the thing, and blew the whole [game].”
He said that Biden&#8217;s insult was so bad “because I feel like it epitomizes everything that the Trump people hate about the Democrats.&#8221;
Maher noted it reinforces the idea that Democrats look down on Republicans.
&#8220;It’s like ‘deplorables’ times 10,” Maher said.

The White House has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-house-cancels-remaining-biden-campaign-calls-after-garbage-insult" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> canceled the remaining campaign calls that Biden had listed on his calendar after the &#8220;garbage&#8221; insult this week.
The organizations Biden was set to speak to did not disclose whether the calls happened after they were removed from his calendar.
Biden has no official events with the Harris campaign before Election Day next week.
The move comes after Biden declared Trump supporters “garbage” during a campaign call Tuesday night with a Latino voter outreach group.
“Donald Trump has no character. He doesn’t give a damn about the Latino community,” Biden claimed.
“Just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage,” Biden continued, referencing remarks that were made at Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City by an insult comedian.
“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” Biden said. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American. It’s totally contrary to everything we’ve done, everything we’ve been.”

Officials in the Biden-Harris White House altered the official transcript of Biden’s remarks at the event as they sought to stave off negative news coverage just days before the election.
The Associated Press reported that the alteration of official government records drew objections from the federal workers who document all of the president’s remarks for historical reference.
Official White House stenographers recorded Biden stating: “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters — his — his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.”
However, Biden-Harris officials altered the quote by adding an apostrophe, changing it to “supporter’s” instead of “supporters.”
The change was made only after the White House press team “conferred with the president,” according to an email obtained by the publication.
Federal officials pushed back, noting that the interference by the White House was “a breach of protocol and spoilation of transcript integrity between the Stenography and Press Offices.”
“If there is a difference in interpretation, the Press Office may choose to withhold the transcript but cannot edit it independently,” the supervisor wrote. “Our Stenography Office transcript — released to our distro, which includes the National Archives — is now different than the version edited and released to the public by Press Office staff.”
The supervisor, who is a career White House employee, said that urgency of a transcript’s release was not their concern and that what mattered was that it was authentic and legitimate.
The edit came as the administration tried to contain the fallout from Biden’s remarks during the final days of the presidential race.
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-KY) on Wednesday accused White House staff of “releasing a false transcript” of Biden’s remarks, and said that they were considering opening an investigation into the matter.
“Unsurprising too were the White House’s actions after he said them,” they said in a joint statement. “Instead of apologizing or clarifying President Biden’s words, the White House instead sought to change them (despite them being recorded on video) by releasing a false transcript of his remarks.”
“The move is not only craven, but it also appears to be in violation of federal law, including the Presidential Records Act of 1978,” they added. “White House staff cannot rewrite the words of the President of the United States to be more politically on message. Though President Biden’s relevance continues to diminish, his words continue to matter, even as they become increasingly divisive and erratic.”

<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6363606392112">Video</a> obtained by Fox News appears to show a Democrat operative tampering with an election ballot drop box in Montana, prompting an accusation by local election officials to the Montana Secretary of State.
The operative, identified by authorities as Laszlo Gendler, has been paid by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), according to <a href="https://www.opensecrets.org/political-parties/dscc/2024/expenditures-details?name=democratic-senatorial-campaign-cmte&amp;recip=Gendler%2C+Laszlo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">OpenSecrets.org</a>, as <a href="https://montanatalks.com/dem-busted-tampering-with-ballot-dropbox-in-montana/?trackback=twitter_mobile" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Montana Talks</a> reported. The DSCC is working to help incumbent Democrat Senator Jon Tester against GOP senatorial candidate Tim Sheehy.
Richie Melby, the Communications Director for Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen, told Montana Talks, “The Glacier County election administrator contacted our office expressing serious concern over surveillance footage that appeared to show an individual &#8216;tampering&#8217; with a ballot box. Our Elections Director contacted the election administrator, who confirmed that the individual in the footage is Laszlo Gendler. The name of the suspect and details were turned over to Glacier County law enforcement. Our Elections Director was pleased that the individual was not able to remove the ballot box from the wall, although the activity was obviously highly suspicious and concerning.&#8221;

Crystal R. Cole, the Election Administrator for Glacier County, had emailed the Montana Secretary of State this notice:

Glacier County has put up two Official Mail Ballot Drop Boxes, one at our Satellite Office in Browning and one at the Glacier County Detention/Dispatch Entrance, both under 24/7 surveillance. Yesterday, on October 20th, at 10:25:05, Laszlo with the MT Democratic Party was on camera tampering with the Box. I did call him to ask him what his reasoning was, he stated “they” sent him to the location to see how secure the box was. The MT Democratic party did not notify the Elections office in any way to state they would be sending someone to the Ballot Box to see how secure it was, so on camera it looks like he was tampering with the box.

The Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen issued a statement on the video that, &#8220;Footage has emerged of a D.C. Democratic staffer tampering with a ballot drop box in Glacier County.&#8221;
&#8220;This isn’t speculation — it is on camera…we are currently investigating this matter with the help of law enforcement and will continue to observe the actions of the Democratic Party of Montana under close watch.”
After the initial publication of this story, it was reported by <a href="https://www.krtv.com/news/montana-and-regional-news/ballot-box-video-in-glacier-county-stirs-controversy">KRTV</a> that Gendler was brought in for questioning by law enforcement but released. Glacier County Attorney Terryl Matt said after an investigation, it was not a &#8220;legitimate attempt to tamper with the ballot box or the electoral process.&#8221;
“After a review of the evidence, including the footage, we have determined that the issue is unsubstantiated,&#8221; the attorney said. &#8220;The behavior captured in the video does not constitute a legitimate attempt to tamper with the ballot box or the electoral process. Glacier County takes all potential instances of election tampering seriously and investigate them to ensure the integrity of our democratic process.”
The DSCC said its operative was checking to make sure the ballot box was &#8220;secured to the wall,&#8221; and that it has relieved the employee of his services after the incident.
&#8220;Poll observers are not instructed to touch ballot boxes,&#8221; a spokesperson told KRTV. &#8220;Gendler was attempting to ensure a new ballot box was secured to the wall.&#8221;
An October New York Times/Siena poll showed Sheehy leading Tester 52-44; the <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2024/montana/sheehy-vs-tester" target="_blank" rel="noopener">last five polls</a> of the race show Sheehy winning by between six and eight points. Republicans currently hold 49 seats in the Senate; a gain of two seats would give them the majority, which is crucial in many votes, including the confirmation of any Supreme Court judges.
