U.S. President Donald Trump&#8217;s plan to take government equity stakes in strategic industries doesn&#8217;t apply to major defense firms, the head of Boeing&#8217;s defense unit said on Saturday, in contrast to previous comments by a senior government official.
The government wants industry to make investments in facilities, and large contractors are expected be able to do this without government assistance, Steve Parker, Chief Executive Officer of Boeing Defense, Space &amp; Security, said on a panel at the Reagan National Defense Forum, an annual industry event in Simi Valley, California.
Speaking about the prospect of the U.S. government investing in exchange for ownership rights, &#8220;it really only applies on the supply chain, particularly for the smaller companies coming through where that might be a way forward for them,&#8221; Parker said.

&#8220;I don&#8217;t think it really applies to the Primes,&#8221; Parker added, referring to big legacy defense contractors like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, RTX and Northrop Grumman.
Parker pointed to Boeing&#8217;s recent billions invested in St. Louis, Missouri where the company makes fighter jets.
In August, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the Trump administration was weighing equity stakes in major defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin, a move that sent shares of Lockheed, Boeing and other defense firms higher.
This year, the Trump administration has taken equity stakes in chipmaker Intel and rare earths company MP Materials, in an effort to prioritize national security in critical sectors where China has become increasingly dominant. Trump has said the government will take stakes in more companies.

Many people are believed to be dead after an Air India plane carrying 242 people crashed just after taking off from an airport in Ahmedabad, India, on Thursday.
The plane, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was headed to the Gatwick Airport in Britain, Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/india/plane-crashes-indias-ahmedabad-airport-tv-channels-report-2025-06-12/">reported</a>. According to Indian authorities, the aircraft crashed into a civilian area near the airport in Ahmedabad, striking a doctors&#8217; hostel at a medical college.
&#8220;At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates,&#8221; Air India <a href="https://x.com/airindia/status/1933100970399166759">said</a>. &#8220;The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals.&#8221;
Of the 242 people on board, 11 were children. Most of the passengers were Indian, while there were 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian, according to Air India.
Videos circulating on X show the Boeing plane slowly descending over a residential area before it disappears, and then a massive fireball is seen.

Ahmedabad Airport air traffic control said that the plane transmitted a &#8220;Mayday&#8221; call shortly after takeoff at 1:39 p.m. local time, but there was no response from the aircraft after the emergency signal, according to Reuters. More videos from a hospital in the city showed injured people being wheeled in on stretchers after the crash, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/12/world/india-plane-crash-ahmedabad/81db752f-d478-524a-97a0-8cd92518b600?smid=url-share">The New York Times</a>.
While the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft has experienced issues in the past, including forcing passengers to evacuate and suspending flights, there have been no fatal crashes reported until Thursday&#8217;s tragedy in India, according to the Times. Boeing has faced increased scrutiny recently over safety issues and deadly plane crashes. Last month, Boeing <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/23/boeing-737-max-crashes-doj.html">reached</a> a deal with the U.S. government, agreeing to pay around $1 billion to avoid prosecution over two crashes involving Boeing’s 737 MAX 8s that killed a total of 346 people.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a defense agreement with Qatar&#8217;s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Unlike the defense sales deal signed with Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, which aims to counterbalance Iranian influence in the region, the deal with Qatar risks empowering a nation with a history of supporting terrorism and strong ties to Iran.
Qatar signed a letter of intent to purchase $2 billion worth of MQ-9B Reaper drones and $1 billion in counter-drone technology, becoming the first international customer for Raytheon’s Fixed Site–Low, Slow, Small Unmanned Aerial System Integrated Defeat System (FS-LIDS), designed to neutralize small unmanned aircraft.
Letters of intent were also signed between Qatar and the United States to “further strengthen our security partnership,” the White House said in a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/05/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-secures-historic-1-2-trillion-economic-commitment-in-qatar/">statement</a>, outlining up to $38 billion in potential defense and security-related investments.
“The United States is in a very strong position militarily,” Trump said, sitting next to Al-Thani. “We have the best equipment anywhere in the world and you’re buying a lot of that equipment actually.”

Trump added that some of the equipment will be on display on Thursday during an event.
Qatar also signed an agreement with Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, alongside President Trump, to purchase 210 American-made Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 777X aircraft powered by GE Aerospace engines, according to the White House. The purchase is the largest 787 order in the American company’s history.
“It’s the largest order of jets in the history of Boeing, that’s pretty good,” Trump said.  “It’s over $200 billion… Congratulations to Boeing. Get those planes out there!”

The deal is part of Saudi Arabia’s larger <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-secures-historic-investment-deal-from-saudi-arabia-on-first-day-of-middle-east-trip" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$600 billion investment</a> commitment for the United States that was also announced on Tuesday.
According to the White House, the defense sales will fall into five categories: air force advancement and space capabilities; air and missile defense; maritime and coastal security; border security and land forces modernization; and information and communication systems upgrades.
The package will also include “extensive training and support to build the capacity of the Saudi armed forces, including enhancement of Saudi service academies and military medical services.”
“This deal represents a significant investment in Saudi Arabia’s defense and regional security, built on American systems and training,” The White House added.

Dozens of people were killed when a Boeing 737-800 exploded on Sunday in South Korea after the plane skidded off a runway and slammed into concrete wall.
The South Korean Jeju Air flight had taken off from Bangkok and was landing at Muan International Airport at approximately 9 a.m. local time when the incident unfolded.
Out of the 181 people who were on board, including passengers and crew, at least 179 people were killed.
Footage of the crash showed that the plane&#8217;s landing gear failed to deploy as it skidded down the runway upon landing.

The Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/south-korea-plane-fire-68da9b0bd5196feed6e7d2db849f461a">reported</a> that South Korean Transport Ministry officials indicated that communications showed that the airport control tower warned the plane about a potential bird strike shortly before it landed and gave the pilot permission to land in a different area.
Additional footage appeared to show a potential explosion in one of the airplane&#8217;s engines shortly before landing — potentially from a bird strike.

The plane crash was the worst aviation disaster the country has experienced in approximately 30 years, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12/28/world/south-korea-plane-crash">reported</a>.

You may have seen that Donald Trump rang the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/12/style/donald-trump-time-stock-exchange.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opening bell</a> at the New York Stock Exchange today. And as far as ceremonial events in the lead-up to the inauguration, it&#8217;s a pretty big one. It&#8217;s a moment that highlights why the markets have been through the roof since Election Day. The incoming administration is giving investors a lot of hope because, in contrast to Kamala Harris — who wanted to tax the markets in unprecedented ways until they were completely destroyed — Trump wants less taxes, less regulation and less corrupt oversight from the Securities and Exchange Commission, which lately has become proficient at hassling Elon Musk over his political opinions.
But the New York Stock Exchange isn&#8217;t the only stock exchange where conservatives are taking a well-deserved victory lap today. Over at the NASDAQ, where the nation&#8217;s biggest technology companies are traded, yet another crushing blow was just dealt to so-called diversity, equity and inclusion practices, or DEI. This has been a year full of setbacks to the entire DEI industry, which I&#8217;ll recap in just a second. But what just happened at the NASDAQ deserves some explanation, because most people aren&#8217;t aware of what happened, even though it&#8217;s one of the most significant developments in the financial industry in recent years.
Let&#8217;s start at the beginning of the timeline. After George Floyd&#8217;s fateful overdose, the leaders of the NASDAQ decided that they needed to take decisive action. They believed that, if only the NASDAQ had different rules and regulations, George Floyd never would&#8217;ve spent his entire life committing violent felonies, robbing stores and resisting arrest. George Floyd would have been a wealthy stockbroker, if not for the lack of DEI in the financial industry. 
To that end, the CEO of NASDAQ went on CNBC and began promoting the idea of mandatory DEI disclosure rules for every company that was listed on the exchange. If companies didn&#8217;t comply with these rules, they would be delisted entirely, and their company would probably collapse.
So what did these DEI disclosure rules entail? Here&#8217;s the CEO of NASDAQ with the explanation. 
This is from late 2020, just a few months into the George Floyd hysteria. Watch:

So the idea is that every company that&#8217;s listed on the NASDAQ — which amounts to several thousand companies, including Apple, Google, Amazon, and so on — has to publish a DEI report every year. And this report requires one of two things.
The first option is for companies to state in their report that they have two members on their board of directors from an &#8220;underrepresented group,&#8221; including at least one female and, in addition to the female, one person who, &#8220;identifies as Black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, biracial, or LGBTQ+.&#8221;
Alternatively, companies have the option of explaining in their reports why they didn&#8217;t meet the requirement. They have to publicly provide an explanation as to why they didn&#8217;t meet NASDAQ&#8217;s quota, which of course is intended to subject these companies to accusations of racism, bigotry and so on.

This is coercion, obviously. It&#8217;s also unconstitutional and extremely, comically arbitrary. For some reason, NASDAQ demands that company&#8217;s have a &#8220;female&#8221; on the board (although they <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/what-is-a-woman">can&#8217;t define the word</a>). That&#8217;s a must-have. If you don&#8217;t have a female on the board, then you can&#8217;t pass Go, and you can&#8217;t collect your $200. But at the same time, NASDAQ isn&#8217;t insistent on having, say, a gay guy on the board. That&#8217;s not too important to them. If you have a Pacific Islander, that&#8217;s good enough. That basically counts as a gay guy, in NASDAQ&#8217;s eyes. All of the ethnic minority groups are interchangeable. Just pick one at random and you’re fine. Go grab an Alaskan native from the bargain bin. If you can’t find one, see if there are a couple of Native Americans on the clearance rack. That seems to be the attitude.
Later on in the same interview, the NASDAQ CEO decides to drop the pretense that this rule is about &#8220;disclosure.&#8221; 
She all but admits that the point is to strong-arm companies into making diversity hires. Watch:

So, she repeats the debunked McKinsey study about how &#8220;diversity&#8221; supposedly makes companies more money, which is a complete fraud. We&#8217;ve <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imLMG7C6oF4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">talked about</a> that before. McKinsey never found that DEI makes companies more money. They actually found that companies with a lot of money tend to practice DEI, which just proves that when companies have a lot of excess money lying around, they tend to waste it. So, saying that DEI makes companies money because successful companies have DEI is like saying that owning a Ferrari makes you money because people with lots of money own Ferraris.
But the important part of that clip is how the NASDAQ CEO admits that there&#8217;s been more than a decade of thinking about, &#8220;how can we bring more diversity on boards.&#8221; That&#8217;s their intent. And they finally decided on this course of action. They&#8217;re going to publicly shame companies that try to select board members on the basis of merit, instead of race and gender.
The rule went into effect shortly after that interview. And it&#8217;s been in effect for some time now. 
Yesterday, however, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which is based in New Orleans, finally <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/12/12/nasdaq-board-diversity-regulations-appeals-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">put an end</a> to this insanity. They <a href="https://www.ca5.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub/21/21-60626-CV0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ruled</a> that the Securities and Exchange Commission didn&#8217;t have the legal authority to approve this DEI policy. And it&#8217;s quite a takedown, to the point that it&#8217;s worth going through some of it.
Here&#8217;s one section of the <a href="https://www.ca5.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub/21/21-60626-CV0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">majority opinion</a> for example:
<blockquote>What is the public interest here? Nasdaq [claimed there is an] established link between the racial, gender, and LGTBQ+ identities of a company’s board members and &#8216;the quality of a company’s financial reporting, internal controls, public disclosures, and management oversight.&#8217; But Nasdaq offered little support for its assertion that there is an empirically established—or even logical—link between the racial, gender, and sexual composition of a company’s board and the quality of its governance. .. Nasdaq offered only the barest speculation to support the proposition that there is any link between investor protection and racial and sexual diversity.</blockquote>
In other words, the court did what no one in the corporate media did for the past five years. They actually looked at the studies that supposedly show that DEI helps companies improve their performance. And they found that there&#8217;s no evidence at all. This is something that activists in the federal government simply asserted, out of thin air — and then they accused you of being a racist if you disagreed. That tactic used to work. It doesn&#8217;t work anymore.
There are other reasons the court struck down this rule, as well. One of them is that the SEC is supposed to regulate things like &#8220;market manipulation and proxy voting.&#8221; They&#8217;re not supposed to be involved in forcing DEI mandates and social engineering down everyone&#8217;s throat. So they&#8217;re wildly overstepping their authority — especially since states, not the federal government, are supposed to have the primary authority to regulate corporations.
The only surprising part of this ruling is that it took so long. Initially, when the Fifth Circuit heard this case, they upheld the DEI rule, probably because all three judges on the panel were appointed by Democrat presidents. But two conservative groups — the National Center for Public Policy Research and the Alliance for Fair Board Recruitment — appealed to a full panel of the Fifth Circuit, which ultimately overturned the rule.

This is, among other things, a devastating blow to the DEI agenda. It&#8217;s a rejection of the federal government&#8217;s efforts to force some of the most powerful companies on the planet to practice DEI. It also creates a lot of problems for so-called E.S.G. investing, where major investment firms direct money to companies that practice DEI. These activists recognized that financial incentives are some of the most potent tools they have, in order to force compliance with their agenda. And now they&#8217;re losing control over those incentives.
And this is just one of the major court victories in the past week concerning DEI. 
Separately, federal judge Reed O&#8217;Connor in Texas just struck down Boeing&#8217;s proposed plea deal with the Biden administration, concerning the crashes of those 737 MAX jets a few years ago. The Biden DOJ and Boeing came to an agreement that will allow Boeing to avoid a federal criminal trial for its negligence. And part of that deal involves the appointment of a federal monitor to oversee Boeing, since they appear to struggle with designing planes that don&#8217;t try to deliberately crash themselves.
But the plea deal had a major problem, which the DOJ and Boeing tried to slip past the judge. It requires that the monitor be selected on the basis of DEI. And the judge threw out the plea deal as a result. He&#8217;s not going to tolerate DEI being used when people&#8217;s lives are at stake, which in this situation, they clearly are. Watch:

When we <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhXiDL4kN3k" target="_blank" rel="noopener">talked about</a> this case a few weeks ago, it looked like Judge O&#8217;Connor was going to toss this plea deal. He <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/planes-are-falling-from-the-sky-and-the-dojs-priority-is-dei" target="_blank" rel="noopener">grilled</a> lawyers for Boeing and the Biden administration about the provision that the independent monitor should be selected, &#8220;‘in keeping with the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.” Specifically, the judge wanted to know whether the government had excluded any candidates based on race or gender. And the lawyers provided inconsistent responses, because they didn&#8217;t want to admit that the answer was obviously &#8220;yes.&#8221; That&#8217;s what DEI is.
So here&#8217;s what O&#8217;Connor <a href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-report/judge-didnt-need-to-cite-dei-to-reject-boeing-deal-experts-say" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in his ruling last week:
<blockquote>In a case of this magnitude, it is in the utmost interest of justice that the public is confident this monitor selection is done based solely on competency. The parties’ DEI efforts only serve to undermine this confidence in the Government and Boeing’s ethics and anti-fraud efforts.</blockquote>
Again, this is a major blow for DEI activists, in both the federal government and in government contractors. Unless they want future programs and plea deals to be held up in court, they&#8217;re now on notice that they should get rid of DEI entirely.
And already, it&#8217;s pretty obvious that Boeing understands that. They&#8217;ve recently <a href="https://www.johnlocke.org/boeing-joins-list-of-major-companies-dropping-dei/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that they&#8217;re scrapping their entire DEI department. They&#8217;re under new leadership now, and the new CEO has decided — in no uncertain terms — that the whole concept of DEI has been a disaster for the company. In this case, Boeing&#8217;s announcement came after the filmmaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pure-lunacy-robby-starbuck-on-exposing-dei-in-corporate-america" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Robby Starbuck</a> reached out to the company, vowing to wage a war against their DEI policies. Starbuck has already <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/25/business/walmart-rolls-back-dei-policies-after-robby-starbuck-pressure/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushed</a> multiple major corporations — from Jack Daniels to John Deere to Harley Davidson to Walmart to Ford — to gut or eliminate their DEI programs. And apparently Boeing didn&#8217;t want their own public shaming.
But there&#8217;s another important reason why Boeing and other companies are getting rid of DEI, as well. Republicans in Congress are currently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-that-would-purge-dei-from-the-government-one-step-closer-to-becoming-law" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advancing</a> the &#8220;Dismantle DEI Act,&#8221; which will eliminate DEI in the federal government. And crucially, the bill would also ban the federal government from hiring any contractors that practice DEI. In other words, these companies stand to lose billions of dollars if they keep discriminating on the basis of race. For companies like Boeing, which make nearly half of their money from the government, that would be devastating.

So they&#8217;re getting rid of this nonsense. In other words, Republicans in Congress, for the first time in a while, are generating very positive and very noticeable social change. And Democrats, for their part, can only screech and howl in response. I <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/why-dei-is-finally-on-the-chopping-block-in-d-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">covered</a> some of their reactions to the bill recently. They know they&#8217;re losing. They know they have no argument.
That has been the story of DEI in general this year. From states and universities dismantling their DEI programs, to the success of my film &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/am-i-racist#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Am I Racist?</a>,&#8221; to the crushing defeat of Kamala Harris — the ultimate DEI candidate — it&#8217;s very clear that DEI is on its way out. The ideology that was so dominant just a few years ago has now been thoroughly exposed, humiliated, and laughed out of court. Just like BLM and hateful, fraudulent anti-white <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/daniel-penny-is-not-guilty-justice-wins-in-spite-of-new-yorks-rigged-court-system" target="_blank" rel="noopener">narratives</a>, DEI has rapidly become irrelevant. Merit, competence and the rule of law are now ascendant. That&#8217;s one of the Right&#8217;s biggest victories of 2024. And it&#8217;s worth celebrating and memorializing, so that we never make the mistake of allowing these corrupt and moronic peddlers of race-hatred to ever hold power again.

Put yourself in the shoes of a senior official in the Biden-Harris administration. Say you&#8217;re running the DOJ. Right now you know that, in just a matter of months, you could be out of a job. In fact, that seems pretty likely at this point. If there&#8217;s any important cases you want to pursue, or policies you want to defend, now&#8217;s the time to do it. This is your opportunity to cement your legacy, at least until the next administration fires you and completely dismantles it.
Given that setup, what would you make a top priority? With so many things going wrong in this country, what are the battles you&#8217;d choose to fight, with the limited time you have left? We&#8217;re not quite in a &#8220;lame duck&#8221; period, technically speaking, but everyone in the administration is asking this question right now.
And as low as your expectations may be for the Biden-Harris administration, their answer to that question is pretty remarkable. In what could very well be their final days in power, senior leaders in the federal government are going to federal court to defend DEI policies. And I&#8217;m not talking about just any garden-variety DEI policies here. As we speak, the Justice Department is going to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/24/business/boeing-deal-dei-justice-department/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">court</a> to demand that DEI is used in the selection process to appoint an independent monitor to oversee Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer. The job of this independent monitor is to make sure that Boeing stops making planes that fall apart in the sky, or fall out of the sky completely.
In other words, the Biden-Harris DOJ is fighting to ensure that the second-largest commercial jet manufacturer in the world is supervised by a DEI hire. What could possibly go wrong?
If you&#8217;ve been following Boeing lately, you know that a lot can go wrong. There&#8217;s a decent documentary on Netflix called &#8220;Downfall: The Case Against Boeing&#8221; that outlines a lot of the background. But here&#8217;s the gist. As you probably remember, there were two fatal crashes involving Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in 2018 and 2019. A total of 346 people were killed in just a few months.

Investigation revealed that the crashes were linked to Boeing&#8217;s decision to accelerate production of the 737 MAX to compete with their rival, Airbus. The design of Boeing&#8217;s new 737 MAX was a lot like the older Boeing jets, with one key exception: the engines were larger and they were positioned further forward on the plane. While this helped with efficiency, it came with a side effect, which is that the plane had a tendency to pitch upwards during flight.
To counteract that tendency, Boeing designed a new software program that they installed on their new 737 MAX aircraft. The idea was that the software would automatically lower the nose to a level position, if the plane started creeping upwards. It was supposed to be a subtle fix that the pilots wouldn&#8217;t really notice. The problem is that the software was completely dependent on one sensor on the plane, called the &#8220;angle of attack&#8221; sensor. And if that sensor failed for whatever reason, or provided inaccurate data, the plane would inaccurately believe that it was climbing too quickly. And the software, in response, would make the plane plunge towards the Earth. And that&#8217;s exactly what happened, in both cases. Here&#8217;s coverage of one of the crashes:

What&#8217;s incredible about this crash — the Ethiopian airlines one — is that it happened after the Lion Air crash several months earlier. And after the Lion Air crash, Boeing sent out advisories to a bunch of airlines, warning them about their software. They said that, if they encounter a similar issue, pilots should just turn off the electrical system of that part of the aircraft, to disable their software entirely.
The problem is that, when the Ethiopian pilots did that, they encountered a bunch of other unexpected issues that they weren&#8217;t really trained on. They were panicking, and during the chaos, they left the throttle on maximum, which made it impossible to control the plane without the help of the electrical system. And when they tried to regain some control, they turned the electrical system back on, at which point the plane promptly crashed itself.
Obviously, there are a lot of failures that occurred in this whole situation. The regulators at the FAA delegated a lot of their responsibilities to Boeing, which meant that Boeing was in charge of certifying the safety of its own software. Additionally, Boeing knowingly made false representations about its software during the certification process.
That&#8217;s not in dispute. Boeing admits this. This summer, Boeing agreed to plead guilty to &#8220;conspiring to defraud&#8221; the government concerning the 737 MAX&#8217;s software. Then Boeing and the DOJ filed a plea agreement in court so that a judge could review it. The plea agreement essentially makes Boeing — as a company — a convicted felon.
But to his credit, the judge, whose name is Reed O&#8217;Connor, isn&#8217;t signing off on the plea deal — at least not yet. This is a bit like the situation with Hunter Biden this summer. Just because both parties agree to a plea deal, that doesn&#8217;t mean the judge has to accept it. And in this case, there&#8217;s a very important reason why the judge won&#8217;t accept it.
From the <a href="https://fingfx.thomsonreuters.com/gfx/legaldocs/egvbjydgbvq/10222024boeing.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">judge&#8217;s order</a> this month: &#8220;The Agreement mandates an independent compliance monitor to assess whether Boeing has adequately mitigated the risk of providing false or fraudulent information to the Federal Aviation Administration and other government regulators. &#8230; Like many of the Agreement’s other provisions, the victims strongly oppose the Agreement’s compliance monitor requirements. Among other reasons, the victims argue the Court should reject the Agreement because it allows the Government, not the Court, to select a monitor with input from Boeing and &#8216;in keeping with the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.'&#8221;
In other words, both the judge and the victims&#8217; families have an issue with this provision. And you can see why. When both the regulator and the airline manufacturer mess up, causing the deaths of hundreds of people, then you&#8217;d think you&#8217;d want to bring in the most competent people you can find, in order to make sure that it never happens again. But that&#8217;s not what&#8217;s happening here.
When the judge asked the government&#8217;s attorney, Sean Tonolli, to explain what exactly this &#8220;diversity, equity and inclusion&#8221; policy would entail, Tonolli responded that he&#8217;s not an expert in the topic. But he eventually got around to saying &#8220;diversity&#8221; refers to &#8220;race, gender, background and any number of factors, including background and experience.&#8221; Tonolli added that &#8220;inclusion&#8221; is, &#8220;another way of maybe saying the same thing and not excluding people because of any characteristic that would be included in diversity.&#8221; Then he tapped out. He said he couldn&#8217;t provide any more information than that. But he did insist that the government wouldn&#8217;t pick someone who was unqualified.
That led the judge to ask, “Did the department used to exclude certain people on race, gender, and other things?” And in response to that question, Tonolli responded: “Not to my knowledge.”
That was an alarming answer, to say the least. Especially when you&#8217;re talking about making sure that more planes don&#8217;t fall out of the sky, the answer should be an unequivocal &#8220;No, we definitely wouldn&#8217;t exclude anyone based on race or gender.&#8221; It&#8217;s wrong to discriminate on the basis of race or gender in any context. But it&#8217;s completely insane to do it when you&#8217;re talking about regulating Boeing, which if you haven&#8217;t noticed, is having a lot of problems right now — both on this planet and in space.
So the judge asked Boeing for their input. But they just deferred to the government&#8217;s answer. Then the judge pulled up Boeing&#8217;s website, where he found that the company has a &#8220;set of aspirations&#8221; that it plans to achieve by next year. Those aspirations, which are based on DEI, include explicit quotas on the basis of race, including Boeing&#8217;s efforts to, “[i]ncrease the Black representation rate in the U.S. by 20%” and “[c]lose representation gaps for historically underrepresented groups.&#8221; The judge also found that Boeing pays its executives bonuses depending on how many of their DEI goals they&#8217;ve achieved.
At the moment, we don&#8217;t know exactly how this legal battle will play out. The judge has said he wants a full hearing on this, before he signs off on any plea agreement. He wants to make sure that the Biden-Harris administration is going to select someone who can do the job, before any more people die in Boeing airplanes. And based on the statements of Boeing and the Biden-Harris administration so far, the judge doesn&#8217;t have those assurances.
If you look at any of the corporate media coverage of this story, you&#8217;ll find a lot of snark directed at the judge. Reuters, for example, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/how-us-judge-injected-culture-wars-into-boeing-737-max-plea-deal-2024-10-24/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ran this headline</a>: &#8220;How a US judge injected culture wars into Boeing 737 MAX plea deal.&#8221; They interviewed a lawyer who criticized the judge, saying he was acting &#8220;incredibly unusual.&#8221; CNN meanwhile accused the judge of engaging in a &#8220;politically tinged&#8221; courtroom battle.
This is the same tactic we see in the trans debate, and in so many other areas. Left-wing activists implement some new, insane policy. And when you push back against it in any way, or even ask questions about it, you&#8217;re accused of injecting a &#8220;culture war&#8221; in a way that&#8217;s somehow inappropriate. It&#8217;s apparently not injecting a&#8221;culture war&#8221; when Boeing and the federal government both decide to start hiring people on the basis of their skin color. But it&#8217;s definitely a &#8220;culture war&#8221; when a judge asks if we&#8217;re hiring the most qualified people to make sure that more planes don&#8217;t crash themselves into the ocean.
The reason these outlets are lashing out like this is that they recognize this judge&#8217;s ruling is significant. They realize they&#8217;re indeed losing the culture war that they started. This is the first time, that I&#8217;m aware of, that a federal judge has explicitly called out DEI in the context of an ongoing case. He&#8217;s demanded to know what exactly it entails. And in response, the government and Boeing — which both practice DEI — couldn&#8217;t even answer the question. It&#8217;s yet another sign that the tide is turning sharply against the whole concept of diversity, equity and inclusion, particularly when lives are at stake.

Two astronauts have been stuck on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nasa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">International Space Station</a> (ISS) since early June after their Boeing Starliner — the company&#8217;s first manned spacecraft — sprang leaks and lost multiple thrusters while approaching the space station.
Veteran astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams were supposed to be in space for a total of eight days when they left Earth on June 5, but the Boeing Starliner&#8217;s mechanical issues have prolonged their stay, and NASA is still unsure of when the Americans will come back home. NASA has even suggested that Wilmore and Williams might have to stay at the space station until February, turning their eight-day mission into an eight-month stay.
NASA has been considering greenlighting a return flight in the Boeing Starliner, and Boeing remains confident that its spacecraft could complete the trek back down to Earth, <a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/space-exploration/nasa-delays-boeing-starliner-return-flight-again-amid-major-discussion-about-astronaut-safety" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Live Science. Boeing said it would bring its ship back empty if NASA decides to leave the astronauts at the International Space Station instead of risking a return trip on the plagued Starliner.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a fairly major discussion to decide whether or not we&#8217;re going to have crew on board for Starliner&#8217;s return,&#8221; Ken Bowersox, associate administrator for NASA&#8217;s Space Operations Mission Directorate, said at a news conference on Wednesday. &#8220;We&#8217;re expecting that the data analysis will be ready for a program board by the middle to end of next week, and will be ready for a flight readiness review around the end of next week.&#8221;
The Boeing Starliner had issues even before it launched with Wilmore and Williams on board on June 5 when it sprang a leak in the propulsion-related plumbing. Five of Starliner&#8217;s thrusters also failed as it approached the space station. After conducting tests from the ground and in space, all but one of the spacecraft&#8217;s 28 thrusters appear to be working, the Associated Press <a href="https://www.wesh.com/article/astronauts-stuck-nasa-boeing-iss/61857685" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The thrusters are vital to keep the capsule in the right position during its deorbit burn.
NASA is considering bringing Wilmore and Williams home on a SpaceX Dragon capsule, a spacecraft made by Elon Musk&#8217;s space exploration and rocket company. The Dragon capsule would usually go up to the space station with a four-man crew, but if seats are needed for Wilmore and Williams, it will carry two astronauts of Crew-9 to the ISS. Under that plan, Wilmore and Williams would have to remain at the ISS until February 2025 as that is when Crew-9 is scheduled to return on the SpaceX Dragon capsule.

&#8220;I do want to keep this in perspective, if Butch and Suni do not come home on Starliner, they will have about 8 months in orbit,&#8221; Russ DeLoach, NASA&#8217;s chief of safety and mission assurance, said at the Wednesday news conference.
NASA assured that its astronauts are still healthy and safe aboard the ISS and have enough food and water to stay there for the long haul. Astronauts have stayed at the ISS for months at a time. Recently, Frank Rubio and his Russian crewmembers were at the ISS for over a year after their spacecraft was damaged by space junk after it had docked, the Associated Press <a href="https://www.wesh.com/article/astronauts-stuck-nasa-boeing-iss/61857685" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Russia sent an empty capsule to bring them back home in September 2023.
The Boing Starliner fiasco adds another item to the list of recent issues plaguing the aerospace company. Earlier this year, a door plug flew off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max shortly after it had taken off. More than seven months after the incident, Boeing still doesn&#8217;t know who was responsible for replacing the door plug before it flew off the Alaska Airlines plane, according to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/07/business/boeing-ntsb-hearing-alaska-airlines-door-plug/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN</a>. In a separate case, the aerospace company <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/boeing-to-take-plea-deal-with-justice-dept-over-deadly-plane-crashes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pled guilty</a> last month to conspiracy to defraud the United States after it was charged over two crashes involving the company’s planes in which hundreds of people died.

Boeing has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States after it was charged over two crashes involving the company’s planes in which hundreds of people died, according to the Justice Department. 
In a Sunday <a href="https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24793880/boeing.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">court filing</a>, the Justice Department said that Boeing had agreed to pay a $487.2 million fine and invest $455 million in compliance and safety programs. The charges come after the government <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/doj-targets-boeing-says-it-breached-2021-deferred-prosecution-agreement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Boeing violated a safety and inspection agreement with the DOJ. A judge has yet to approve the plea deal. 
The agreement comes after two of Boeing&#8217;s 737 MAX 8s <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/boeing-agrees-principle-deal-doj-plead-guilty-misleading/story?id=111736181" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were involved</a> in two fatal crashes. Nearly 200 people were killed in a crash near Indonesia in the Java Sea in 2018, and 157 individuals died in a crash in Ethiopia the following year. 
“The parties have agreed in principle to the material terms of a plea agreement that would, among other things, hold Boeing accountable for its material misstatements to the Federal Aviation Administration, require Boeing to pay the statutory maximum fine, require Boeing to invest at least $455 million in its compliance and safety programs, impose an independent compliance monitor, and allow the Court to determine the restitution amount for the families in its discretion, consistent with applicable law,” the DOJ said in a filing to U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. 
The proposed deal has already faced criticism from family members of the crash victims.
“This sweetheart deal fails to recognize that because of Boeing’s conspiracy, 346 people died,” lawyer Paul Cassell <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/08/business/boeing-justice-department-plea-deal.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “Through crafty lawyering between Boeing and DOJ, the deadly consequences of Boeing’s crime are being hidden.”
In a statement, Boeing said it had reached a preliminary agreement with the government.

In the filing, the government said it had met with victims’ families before reaching the plea deal. 
“Before this plea agreement was reached, the Government afforded the families numerous opportunities to communicate and express their views, personally and through counsel, and the families meaningfully and substantially participated in conferral meetings,” lawyers for the Justice Department said. “Indeed, the Government formulated the plea offer based in part on the feedback that it received during conferral sessions and communications with the families and Boeing’s airline customers that purchased the 737 MAX (&#8216;airline customers&#8217;) during the past few months.”
Boeing has come under increasing scrutiny in recent months as Congress has held hearings on the quality of Boeing&#8217;s airplanes amid a series of high-profile accidents.

Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/josh-hawley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Josh Hawley</a> (R-MO) grilled <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/boeing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boeing</a> CEO Dave Calhoun about his multi-million dollar salary at the embattled aerospace company on Tuesday.
&#8220;What is it that you get paid currently?&#8221; Hawley asked Calhoun during a <a href="https://www.hsgac.senate.gov/subcommittees/investigations/hearings/boeings-broken-safety-culture-ceo-dave-calhoun-testifies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hearing</a> of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations — which has been looking into <a href="https://www.blumenthal.senate.gov/newsroom/press/release/the-senate-permanent-subcommittee-on-investigations-releases-evidence-from-new-boeing-whistleblowers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boeing whistleblower complaints</a>.
&#8220;Senator, that&#8217;s well disclosed in our proxy documents in each of the years that I&#8217;ve been employed,&#8221; Calhoun said.

After Calhoun responded in the affirmative, Hawley continued, &#8220;That&#8217;s a 45% increase over last year.&#8221;

Once again, Hawley asked if the number he recited sounded correct, to which Calhoun said that it did.
&#8220;What is it you get paid to do exactly?&#8221; Hawley pressed.
&#8220;I get paid to run the Boeing company,&#8221; Calhoun answered.
&#8220;Yeah,&#8221; Hawley said. &#8220;So just help me understand that. I mean, do you get paid for transparency? If that part of — is that one of the metrics for your income?&#8221;
Calhoun explained, &#8220;I think the board counts on me for transparency.&#8221;
The comment prompted a stern retort in which Hawley listed a number of investigations that Boeing has faced.
&#8220;This is all in your tenure. This doesn&#8217;t sound like a lot of transparency to me,&#8221; Hawley said.
As Boeing has been inundated with controversies, including a <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/boeing-paid-alaska-160m-compensation-door-plug-incident/story?id=108859251" target="_blank" rel="noopener">door plug incident</a> and plane crashes, Hawley also pressed Calhoun on safety and quality control.
The senator accused Calhoun of trying to &#8220;squeeze&#8221; profit out of the company while &#8220;cutting corners&#8221; and endangering lives.
“Senator, I don’t recognize any of the Boeing you described,&#8221; Calhoun insisted.
Hawley asked Calhoun why he has not resigned, to which the executive declared he is &#8220;sticking this through&#8221; and is &#8220;proud&#8221; of Boeing&#8217;s work — including its safety record.
“Wow. There&#8217;s some news for you,&#8221; Hawley quipped.
&#8220;I think the American public, when they fear to get on their airplanes, they understand your safety record,&#8221; he added.
&#8220;And frankly, sir, I think it’s a travesty that you’re still in your job,&#8221; Hawley said.

The Department of Justice has alerted Boeing that the airline manufacturer breached terms of its 2021 deferred prosecution agreement, which saw Boeing protected from criminal prosecution after two 737 Max accidents in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people. Those accidents occurred on an October 2018 Lion Air 737 Max flight and a March 2019 Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max flight.
The 2021 agreement <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usdoj-media/criminal/media/1212261/dl?inline" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated,</a> “The Company agrees that, effective as of the date it signs this Agreement, in any prosecution that is deferred by this Agreement, it will not dispute the Statement of Facts set forth in this Agreement.” It added:

This Agreement is effective for a period beginning on the date on which the Information is filed and ending three years from that date (the “Term”). The Company agrees, however, that, in the event the Fraud Section determines, in its sole discretion, that the Company has knowingly violated any provision of this Agreement or has failed to completely perform or fulfill each of its obligations under this Agreement, an extension or extensions of the Term may be imposed by the Fraud Section, in its sole discretion, for up to a total additional time period of one year.

Boeing paid $2.5 billion in penalties after the 2021 agreement with a promise it would improve safety and compliance protocols, but families victimized by the two crashes felt that justice had not been done. After recent events, they met with the Biden administration last month to urge ending the 2021 agreement.
Those events included an Alaska Airlines flight losing a door plug in January. In late February, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/26/business/aviation-safety-panel-finds-boeing-culture-included-safety-gaps-fear-of-retaliation/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> criticizing Boeing that stated it did not find “objective evidence of a foundational commitment to safety that matched Boeing’s descriptions of that objective.” The report also declared that some employees at Boeing were reticent to speak of safety concerns because they feared retaliation.
“For failing to fulfill completely the terms of and obligations under the [deferred prosecution agreement], Boeing is subject to prosecution by the United States for any federal criminal violation of which the United States has knowledge,” the Justice Department informed US District Judge Reed O’Connor in Fort Worth, Texas, who supervised the 2021 agreement. The Justice Department added that “the government has determined that Boeing breached its obligations by failing to design, implement, and enforce a compliance and ethics program to prevent and detect violations of the U.S. fraud laws throughout its operations,” CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/14/business/boeing-justice-department-criminal-prosecution/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.

Boeing has until June 13 to respond to the Justice Department action.
“We believe that we have honored the terms of that agreement, and look forward to the opportunity to respond to the Department on this issue,” Boeing said in a statement, according to CNN.

A 45-year-old man who raised concerns about a Boeing supplier ignoring production defects died on Tuesday while battling a fast-spreading infection, his family said.
Joshua Dean of Wichita, Kansas, was a healthy middle-aged man before going to the hospital two weeks ago because he was having difficulty breathing, according to his family, The Seattle Times <a href="https://www.seattletimes.com/business/whistleblower-josh-dean-of-boeing-supplier-spirit-aerosystems-has-died/">reported</a>. At the hospital, Dean was intubated but then developed pneumonia and MRSA, an infection that makes it hard for a person to breathe.
Dean&#8217;s aunt, Carol Parsons, said her nephew&#8217;s condition became so severe before his death that he was airlifted to a hospital in Oklahoma City and placed on an ECMO machine, which takes over a patient&#8217;s heart and lung functions when they&#8217;re not working on their own.
Dean, who worked as a quality auditor at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems, was reportedly fired by Spirit in April 2023. He then filed a complaint with the Department of Labor, alleging Spirit had retaliated against him for raising concerns about aviation safety, according to the Times. Dean said that in 2022, he sounded the alarm on an alleged manufacturing defect where mechanics were improperly drilling holes in the MAX&#8217;s aft pressure bulkhead, but management allegedly did nothing to address his concern.
The former quality auditor had also given a deposition in a Spirit shareholder lawsuit and filed a complaint with the Federal Aviation Administration. In his complaint, Dean alleged that there was “serious and gross misconduct by senior quality management of the 737 production line” at Spirit.
The Wichita man was represented by the same law firm that represented Boeing whistleblower John Barnett, who was found dead in March from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Barnett had alleged that Boeing retaliated against him after he filed complaints related to quality lapses. The police investigation into Barnett&#8217;s death is still ongoing, the Times reported.
Boeing has faced scrutiny in recent months, including from federal authorities, who are investigating what caused a door plug on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 to come off mid-flight earlier this year. Boeing said it has “worked proactively and transparently” to support the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, meanwhile, launched an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-investigating-boeing-supplier-over-dei-policies-amid-aircraft-safety-concerns" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation</a> into the &#8220;organization, conduct, and management&#8221; of Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems along with looking into &#8220;documents related to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (&#8216;DEI&#8217;) commitments, and whether those commitments are unlawful or are compromising the company’s manufacturing processes.&#8221;

Another mid-flight mishap involving a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/boeing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boeing</a> plane forced a Los Angeles-bound flight to return to JFK International Airport in New York on Friday — this time because the Delta aircraft&#8217;s emergency slide fell off.
Delta Flight 520 departed JFK at around 7:30 a.m., but just an hour into the flight the plane&#8217;s emergency alarm sounded, and the crew discovered that they had lost the emergency slide, forcing the pilots to abandon the trip to L.A. and return to the Queens airport, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/04/26/us-news/emergency-slide-falls-off-delta-plane-forcing-la-bound-flight-to-return-to-jfk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The crew had also reported feeling a vibration at the time of the incident, according to the FAA.
Authorities were searching for the lost emergency slide as of Friday afternoon, according to the Post. Sources told the outlet that they believe the chute could be in Jamaica Bay, just west of JFK Airport. No injuries were reported from the incident, and the Boeing 767 again departed the airport at around 11:00 a.m.
Friday&#8217;s incident is yet another example of a Boeing plane being forced to land after losing part of its equipment mid-air. Earlier this month, a Southwest Boeing 737-800 was forced to make an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/southwest-flight-forced-to-make-emergency-landing-after-engine-cover-rips-off" target="_blank" rel="noopener">emergency landing</a> after “several passengers and flight attendants heard something loud hit the wing.&#8221; Video taken as the plane was landing showed that one of its engine covers had ripped off.
