Sunny Hostin spent part of Tuesday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;The View&#8221; on ABC complaining that President Donald Trump had been allowed to take the oath of office on Monday, beginning his second term on Martin Luther King Day.
Hostin, who admitted that she did not watch any of the proceedings because she&#8217;d &#8220;decided to protect my peace,&#8221; argued that it was hypocritical to have Trump sworn in on a day honoring King.
Instead of watching the inauguration, she said she&#8217;d chosen to participate in a service day in Harlem with her sorority sisters.
&#8220;He&#8217;s not a statesman, that&#8217;s not who he is,&#8221; she said, later adding, &#8220;The one thing I did think about was the hypocrisy of having a man be inaugurated to be president on the same day as we commemorate MLK, and that same man saying that he was going to get rid of diversity, equity and inclusion.&#8221;

Hostin went on to say that MLK Jr. had &#8220;not only wanted racial equality&#8221; but had also wanted &#8220;economic equality,&#8221; and that he had referred to reparations as a form of &#8220;justice.&#8221; She did not say how she might figure into that particular equation, given the recent <a href="https://people.com/finding-your-roots-sunny-hostin-ancestors-owned-slaves-8559901">revelation</a> on an episode of &#8220;Finding Your Roots&#8221; that her own ancestors had &#8220;likely&#8221; owned slaves.

Complaining that Trump has called for a move toward &#8220;meritocracy,&#8221; Hostin then asserted — even though he won both the Electoral College and the popular vote in the 2024 election — that Trump himself &#8220;didn&#8217;t become the president of the United States because of merit.&#8221;
&#8220;He hasn&#8217;t — he had no political experience whatsoever,&#8221; she added, leaving out the fact that he has, in fact, already served one term as president. &#8220;He was given everything that he has. He is a legacy hire. He is, if anything, a DEI hire, a didn&#8217;t earn it hire.&#8221;
Trump is the second president to be sworn in on MLK Day. Former President Bill Clinton started his second term on the commemorative holiday in 1997. Additionally, after being sworn in on Sunday, January 20, both former Presidents Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama held multiple inaugural events on the holiday in 1985 and 2013, respectively. It was Reagan, in 1983, who declared that the third Monday in January would be recognized in honor of the Civil Rights leader.

For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
On Sunday, as multiple wildfires still rage out of control in California, what to do about them and how to prevent such a tragedy from happening in the future was top of mind on many of the political talk shows. As one might expect, media personalities were quick to jump to the aid of Democrats — who are often only too happy to politicize natural disasters when they occurred in red states — were desperate to put a stop to the criticism being leveled at California&#8217;s leadership (or lack thereof) with regard to the fires.
Deanne Criswell, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), joined host Jonathan Karl on ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week&#8221; to discuss the &#8220;dangerous situation&#8221; still unfolding in Southern California.
&#8220;The red flag warnings have been reissued, the winds are coming back, and we still want to make sure that people are in a safe place,&#8221; Criswell said. The winds had abated enough to allow for air support to fly in water and fire retardant over the last day, but they are expected to pick up again and the situation is still extremely volatile.

The new California senator, elected to fill the seat that was initially vacated when the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) passed away, also called on President-elect Trump to join with California in an effort to prevent future disasters.
Schiff, who spent the majority of Trump&#8217;s last term attempting to either impeach him or simply smear him as a Russian asset, claimed on Sunday, &#8220;It’s going to be really important for the incoming president to work with all of us in California to make sure that we get the resources we need to put out these flames &#8230; to get the relief to get back on our feet.&#8221;

On CBS News&#8217; &#8220;Face the Nation,&#8221; FEMA&#8217;s Criswell also spoke with host Margaret Brennan — and she argued that despite the growing evidence to the contrary, California had been adequately prepared to confront the massive blaze.
&#8220;I think that they were very prepared,&#8221; Criswell said — despite multiple reports of budget cuts to local fire departments, empty reservoirs, and empty fire hydrants. She went on to blame the excessive winds — which are a common problem in Southern California — for the difficulties first responders have faced in battling the fires. &#8220;[They] have never seen 100 mph winds that are fueling the fire.&#8221;

Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) echoed Schiff&#8217;s sentiments in calling for bipartisan efforts in helping California to rebuild.
&#8220;These wildfires don&#8217;t have any political affiliation,&#8221; she told Brennan. &#8220;They don&#8217;t belong to any political party. This devastation has affected thousands upon thousands of people who just ran out of their homes with nothing in their hands, and are trying to rebuild, and they need help.&#8221;

Sunday&#8217;s narrative focused primarily on the terrorist attack that took place last week in New Orleans — along with a concerted effort to drive conversation away from the terror risk posed by the open southern border and toward the threat of homegrown terrorism.
As soon as it was clear that the truck attack in New Orleans had been motivated by radical Islamist ideology — coupled with conflicting reports about the truck that was used and whether it had recently crossed the border — a number, President-elect Donald Trump among them, pointed to the porous border and questioned whether more such attacks might be possible or even imminent.
But Democrats and legacy media were quick to put distance on the topic of the border and the crisis that has unfolded there under the Biden-Harris administration&#8217;s lax policies — and they emphasized the fact that at least in this particular case, the perpetrator was an American citizen who had been radicalized.
On ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week,&#8221; Chief Justice correspondent Pierre Thomas raised the question of how exactly the New Orleans terror suspect had been radicalized — specifically, whether ISIS had recruited him or he had come to them.
&#8220;The main focus of the investigation right now: trying to figure out if the suspect was radicalized on his own or if someone from ISIS directed him in anyway,&#8221; Thomas told anchor George Stephanopoulos.

On &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; CNN anchor Jake Tapper pressed Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) on the issue — asking specifically whether Trump had jumped the gun when he linked terror threats in the United States to the porous border and the lax immigration policies under Biden and Harris.
&#8220;Wasn&#8217;t that premature given that this was an American citizen?&#8221; Tapper asked.
Banks pushed back, noting that former President Barack Obama had referred to ISIS as &#8220;the JV team of terrorism, and obviously they&#8217;re not.&#8221; He went on to note that Trump had essentially cut ISIS off at the knees during his first term and was prepared to do the same again.

Rep. Micheal McCaul (R-TX), Chairman Emeritus of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Homeland Security Committee, outlined the threats that he wants President-elect Donald Trump to focus on immediately after getting sworn into office.
McCaul made the remarks during a Sunday interview on ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week&#8221; with George Stephanopoulos while discussing 42-year-old ISIS terrorist Shamsud-Din Jabbar&#8217;s attack on New Orleans&#8217; French Quarter last week.
McCaul said that he was specifically looking forward to learning more about his month-long trip to Egypt prior to the attack since investigators have found that he produced a rare explosive compound for bombs that he made.
&#8220;What was he doing in Egypt for a month?&#8221; he asked. &#8220;It reminds me so much, George, of the Boston bomber, who traveled to Dagestan, came back, and then built this pressure cooker bomb that led to the deaths of so many people in that marathon.&#8221;
McCaul said that Trump&#8217;s incoming national security team needed to focus on vehicle attacks in light of the attack and the vehicle attack in Germany late last month.
&#8220;The other thing, I&#8217;m very worried about is, with the fall of Afghanistan and – and the debacle, and with what happened there, we are seeing a resurgence of ISIS and ISIS-K in the Khorasan region between Afghanistan and Pakistan that concerns me greatly,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Now we know that eight ISIS individuals have entered the United States through that.&#8221;
He said that the administration also needed to focus on online radicalization since more terrorists are becoming radicalized in Western countries and there are not always warning signs prior to their attacks.

For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
With just a few days remaining in 2024 — and only 20 more until President-elect Donald Trump once again takes the Oath of Office and returns to the White House — the media conversations on Sunday largely focused on two things: what people should take away from 2024, and what they expect 2025 will bring.
The common threads — with a few exceptions — were as to be expected from legacy media and the majority of their guests: a white-washed picture of President Joe Biden&#8217;s tenure in the Oval Office, juxtaposed with predictions of disarray among Republicans when Trump returns to the presidency.
ABC&#8217;s Jonathan Karl pushed the division narrative on &#8220;This Week,&#8221; drawing on recent debate within the Republican Party over legal immigration and the H1-B visa program, sparked by some <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/reason-im-in-america-elon-and-other-trump-allies-battle-it-out-over-foreign-worker-visa-program" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comments made</a> by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
Karl quoted The Washington Post as saying that Musk had &#8220;incited a MAGA Civil War&#8221; when he posted on X about the program and argued that the United States should be bringing in qualified and competent foreign workers, particularly in technology-related fields.
Musk argued that competition in business should be like it is in &#8220;pro sports&#8221; and that America should draft the best team even if it was necessary to go outside the U.S. to do so.
His comments quickly sparked fierce debate as some argued that the H1-B visa program was being used to import cheaper labor rather than simply to build the best team.

Karl also pressed Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) about another division point within the party — namely the fact that several Republicans in the House had not yet endorsed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in his bid to keep the leadership post.
Lawler noted that a failure to re-elect Johnson as Speaker — and quickly — could hold up the certification of Trump&#8217;s November 5th electoral victory. Lawler also said that he believed Johnson would win the necessary votes to retain his position.

On CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; Democrat Karen Finney attempted to rewrite President Biden&#8217;s history, claiming that the people would look favorably on Biden&#8217;s handling of the economy and would credit him with leading the country out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
&#8220;Joe Biden’s record with regard to the things that he’s accomplished, I think will stand the test of time,” she said, &#8220;It was very disturbing to learn late in the year about just how bad, how poor his health has become. And like many, I did not realize that it had gotten to that point. That being said, I think he’s still look, he showed up for the job. He got the work done. I think some of the accomplishments also in the Middle East and foreign policy will also stand the test of time.&#8221;

On &#8220;Fox News Sunday,&#8221; guest Cal Thomas told anchor Shannon Bream that legacy media was &#8220;the biggest loser&#8221; of the year, laying out a series of stories that they either covered in a biased manner or neglected to cover at all.

President-elect Donald Trump declared on Sunday that his new administration would be up and running within hours of his inauguration, and his incoming Federal Communications Commission is apparently taking that directive seriously.
Brendan Carr, who currently serves as the FCC commissioner, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/23/media/fcc-brendan-carr-bob-iger-abc-letter/index.html">fired off a note</a> to Disney CEO Bob Iger, and indicated that he planned to hold news networks — like the Disney-owned ABC News — accountable during his tenure as chairman.

In the letter, Carr noted that the American people have largely lost trust in the national media — although most, according to polling data, still have much more positive views of their local media outlets.
“Dear Mr. Iger, Americans no longer trust the national news media to report fully, accurately, and fairly,” Carr’s letter began, before pivoting to address ABC’s recent $15 million settlement — and an additional $1 million in attorney fees — with Trump.
“ABC’s own conduct has certainly contributed to this erosion in public trust. For instance, ABC News recently agreed to pay $15 million to President Trump’s future presidential foundation and museum and an additional $1 million in attorney fees to settle a defamation case,” Carr wrote.
The defamation case sprung from a March broadcast of the network’s flagship Sunday morning show, “This Week,” when veteran anchor George Stephanopoulos said on a number of occasions that Trump had been “found liable for rape” in the E. Jean Carroll case.
Stephanopoulos, a former Democratic strategist, had been warned against using the word “rape” prior to the broadcast, but did it anyway.
Carr went on to suggest that by prioritizing Disney’s paid streaming services over content that might be made available to the local, and more trusted, affiliates, the company was only deepening the public’s mistrust.
“The fact that a massive trust divide has emerged between local news outlets and national programmers like ABC only increases the importance of retransmission consent revenues remaining available for local broadcast TV stations to invest in their local news operations and content that serves their communities,” he added.

Everyone, from members of Congress to pundits to the hosts of ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View,&#8221; is complaining about billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and whether or not his influence on the incoming Trump administration is outsized.
Much of the conversation centered around the recent fight over a last-minute deal on a continuing resolution to avert a government shutdown just before members of Congress left for the Christmas holiday, and the fact that Musk — along with Trump and a host of others — had taken to X to pan the 1,500-plus page deal originally supported by House Speaker Mike Johnson. That deal fell through, in part due to widespread exposure of what it actually included, forcing lawmakers to try again.
There were several obvious lessons that could be learned from this particular situation — chief among them that Congress could have reached a deal long before the previous one had expired, thus eliminating the need for an 11th-hour stopgap measure entirely. They also could have learned that if such a situation was truly unavoidable, the people might appreciate the transparency of a clean bill that only addressed the truly emergent funding needs.
According to most Democrats — and even a handful of Republicans — the only thing worth learning from that scenario was that Elon Musk, because he owns the social media platform X and has Trump&#8217;s ear, must necessarily have too much influence over the policies that will shape the incoming administration.
From ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; to the House floor, courtesy of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/whoopi-airs-fever-dream-on-live-tv-says-musk-and-vance-could-be-plotting-hostile-takeover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Whoopi Goldberg</a> and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) respectively, came the too-clever-by-half labeling of the SpaceX CEO: &#8220;President Musk.&#8221;
That tone continued into the Sunday morning political shows as both the hosts and their guests reacted to the question of Musk&#8217;s influence — and whether or not Trump was happy about it.
On ABC&#8217;s &#8220;This Week,&#8221; former Governor Chris Christie argued that Trump might be fine with Musk having a bit of the spotlight for the time being, but insisted that was likely a temporary scenario — and that if Musk overstepped or Trump needed to blame someone else for something, the bloom would quickly come off the rose.
Christie began by suggesting that Musk was &#8220;intoxicated&#8221; by the adoration that came with being in Trump&#8217;s orbit and that at least for the moment, the entrepreneur had a lot of influence. &#8220;I used to say this to General Kelly when he first became chief of staff,&#8221; Christie continued. &#8220;Today you&#8217;re trading at 100 cents on the dollar. You will trade to zero, the only question is how long will it take.&#8221;
Christie did not put a timeframe on how long he thought Musk might last, but instead described how he believed it would happen, saying that Musk would likely be pushed aside &#8220;when Trump believes that something has gone wrong and he needs someone to blame — and Musk becomes the person to blame.&#8221;

On CBS&#8217; &#8220;Face the Nation,&#8221; Rep. Tony Gonzales defended the relationship between Trump and Musk, saying he was like a &#8220;prime minister&#8221; in the recent battle over funding — but that in that role, he had amplified the concerns being voiced by regular Americans.
&#8220;We have a president, we have a vice president, we have a speaker — it feels like — as if Elon Musk is our prime minister,&#8221; Gonzales said, and while he conceded host Margaret Brennan&#8217;s point that he was obviously &#8220;unelected,&#8221; he argued that much of what Musk had done was shine a light on all of the unnecessary and wasteful things that had been included in the first funding package. &#8220;He has a voice, and a large part — a lot of that voice is a reflection of the voice of the people.&#8221;

Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) pushed back on the prevailing narrative on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; telling host Dana Bash that it was clear to him that although Musk continued to work in an advisory capacity, Trump was still the one holding all the marbles.
After first explaining that the contents of the funding bill had been made largely available to the general public because Elon Musk had bought Twitter (now X), Hagerty said that social media-enforced transparency had forced lawmakers to face direct feedback from their constituents. That, he said, was what had ultimately led them to a cleaner CR.
&#8220;I think President Trump is clearly the leader,&#8221; Hagerty said when challenged directly, saying that he&#8217;d met with both Trump and Musk together and had no concerns that the SpaceX CEO was elbowing his way into undue influence of the incoming president.

Later on the show, Republican pundit <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/scott-jennings-nukes-democrats-claiming-musk-is-in-charge-i-invite-them-to-pick-up-the-wsj" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Scott Jennings</a> mocked the Democrats for complaining about the &#8220;unelected&#8221; and &#8220;billionaires&#8221; steering Trump on policy, noting that even the mainstream press was finally waking up to the fact that President Joe Biden had not been the one calling the shots in the current administration.
&#8220;I hear Democrats criticizing the idea that we have unelected people with too much influence over the government,” Jennings said, in reference to the myriad claims that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/whoopi-airs-fever-dream-on-live-tv-says-musk-and-vance-could-be-plotting-hostile-takeover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Musk</a> was controlling the outcome of the recent government shutdown-averting continuing resolution.
“I invite them to pick up the Wall Street Journal from this week and find out that unelected people have been running the government for the last four years,” he said. The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-details-emerge-about-white-houses-cover-up-of-bidens-cognitive-decline" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> he mentioned laid out concerns — voiced by officials from within Biden’s White House — that Biden was not capable of even hosting long meetings, mush less large unscripted events, without fears of a major slip. Others had weighed in on his decision to seek a second term in office, saying that they were unsure how he would have the capacity to finish out his current term, much less embark upon another.
&#8220;I hear Democrats criticizing the influence of billionaires on our politics, when you’ve got this Soros punk running around collecting Democrat politicians like my kids collect Pokemon cards,” he said. “I think all of the criticism of Musk coming from the left is totally hypocritical, totally over the top, and he is doing something interesting: bringing some transparency to the federal government, it’s not a terrible thing.&#8221;
Trump himself addressed the media narrative from the stage at Turning Point USA&#8217;s America Fest in Phoenix, Arizona, saying that he had no concerns about Musk usurping the office. &#8220;No, he’s not going to be president, that I can tell you,” Trump said. &#8220;You know why he can’t be [president]? He wasn’t born in this country. But the fake news knows that.”

&#8220;The View&#8221; host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/whoopi-goldberg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Whoopi Goldberg</a> — with an assist from cohost Joy Behar — suggested that entrepreneur Elon Musk and Vice President-elect JD Vance were plotting a hostile takeover to gain control of the White House.
During Thursday&#8217;s broadcast of the ABC midday talk show, Goldberg wondered about the amount of influence Musk was having on policy as Trump&#8217;s inauguration approaches.
Noting that she was not the only person questioning &#8220;who is in charge,&#8221; she added, &#8220;I&#8217;ve been saying it for a while. I&#8217;ve been saying that Elon Musk believes he&#8217;s president. I do.&#8221;
&#8220;Well, you&#8217;ve been calling him vice president,&#8221; Behar interjected.
&#8220;I called him vice president, I called him president, because I don&#8217;t know what JD is doing,&#8221; Goldberg continued. &#8220;I hardly ever — I don&#8217;t — I don&#8217;t remember the last time we even talked about JD.&#8221;
&#8220;He&#8217;s planning the presidency when they get rid of Trump,&#8221; Behar said.
&#8220;So you think it&#8217;s Musk — Musk-Vance?&#8221; Goldberg asked.

Goldberg then turned to the camera, addressing Trump directly despite the fact that she still refuses to say his name aloud: &#8220;Hey, You-Know-Who, stay away from the stairways.&#8221;

By the time the show came back from commercial break, Goldberg had apparently thought better of suggesting that someone might try to kill Trump and take control of the presidency.
&#8220;Okay, I need to clean something up,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Because my cat lays in wait for me on my stairs all the time and that&#8217;s what I was referring — I was thinking of that, I wasn&#8217;t trying to indicate that they were actually standing there with their legs out, hoping he would trip.&#8221;
&#8220;No one wants anything done to the president,&#8221; cohost Sunny Hostin added.
&#8220;It was light-hearted and it&#8217;s the holidays, come on,&#8221; she complained. &#8220;My goodness!&#8221;
&#8220;We did not mean that anybody should hurt the president,&#8221; Hostin said again.
Critics quickly pointed out the fact that &#8220;The View&#8221; falls under ABC&#8217;s &#8220;news&#8221; division — and that the network just agreed on Saturday to shell out millions over &#8220;This Week&#8221; anchor George Stephanopoulos&#8217; on-air false claims that President-elect Donald Trump had been found &#8220;liable for rape&#8221; in the E. Jean Carroll case.
