Zakaria: ‘Data Clearly Proves’ That A Gun In The House ‘Makes People Less Safe’

Left-wing CNN Democrat Fareed Zakaria declared on Sunday’s GPS that gun owners with firearms in their homes are less safe than fellow citizens without firearms in their homes.

“On average, keeping a gun in the house makes people less safe. Especially women and children. The data clearly proves this,” announced Zakaria, presenting himself as a data-driven policy analyst.

Zakaria also lamented the motivation of self-defense undergirding many Americans’ choices to exercise their constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

“Two out of three gun owners bought guns to protect themselves and their families against other people,” fretted Zakaria. “So the main driver of gun ownership today is fear, and this is true for both men and women. In fact, self defense is one of the main reasons more women are becoming gun owners. But guns do not actually ensure security.”

Earlier in the segment, Zakaria spoke of the upcoming publication of a study on firearm ownership conducted by Northeastern University and Harvard University. The study is funded by the Fund for a Safer Future, itself a left-wing “gun control” agitation group funded by George Soros’s Open Society Foundations and aligned with President Barack Obama’s administration.

Entitled “The Stock and Flow of U.S. Firearms: Results from the 2015 National Firearms Survey,” the study asserts that 3% of American adults own 130 million firearms. In other words, half of all “civilian firearms in circulation” in America are owned by 7.7 million adults. It is unclear if this data includes firearms dealers.

America’s “gun superowners,” noted Zakaria, are “disproportionately white men over 45 who hold conservative political views.”

Zakaria then called on firearm owners to understand “the need for basic controls to make sure that the wrong people don’t have access to weaponry.”

Zakaria lumped together the mass murders at Sandy Hook, CT, with the Islamic terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, CA, and Orlando, FL, categorizing them as “mass shootings.” According to him, the weapon used in a mass killing is a more factor in understanding a mass murder than the motivations or ideological orientation of its perpetrator.

“There have been more mass shootings in the United States in 2016 than we have had days this year,” declared Zakaria. He neglected to provide his definition of “mass shooting.”

Calling for “reasonable requirements” to be imposed in the form of “gun control,” Zakaria invited his audience to support government funding of organizations wishing to repeal the Second Amendment under the guise of research for the purpose of saving lives:

“Surely there are reasonable requirements that can be made of gun manufacturers and owners to mitigate the risks of these dangerous weapons. And surely, surely, we would understand these risks better if the U.S. government were allowed to actually commission studies on gun and gun ownerships, something currently prohibited by law. Let’s just look at the data, it will really save lives, thousands of lives.”

Zakaria presents himself as an objective political analyst catering to a scientifically-oriented audience.
