Former NFL running back Zac Stacy, who was arrested in Orlando, Florida, after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in front of their four-month old son, reportedly told police that his girlfriend “staged” the attack because she was trying to “get money out of me.”
Stacy allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Stacy Evans on November 13. Video that was released showed him punching her; the arrest warrant stated he threw her around “like a rag doll” as he hurled her into the TV. “He was charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief in the alleged assault, and faces 20 years in prison,” The Daily Mail noted.
TMZ obtained arrest footage in which Stacy claimed to police, “It’s just a case of bitterness, man, why she did this. The whole assault thing, she staged it. She set me up. … The whole thing was staged. All she’s trying to do is get money out of me. She got a reaction out of me.”
Stacy claimed that prior to the attack he had been treated in rehab for anxiety and depression; he discovered Evans had had an affair with his financial advisor, but he visited her house to support her. He stated, “She knew I was down; she knew I was going through anxiety and depression. She knew I was trying to close this gap that’s between me and my son, and she’s just upset that she got caught, and she’s upset I’m not taking care of him like she expected. … And now she took it this far.”
He also stated that what he did was “f***** up … I don’t know what man — how any man could have handled that situation.”
Evans responded, “So there’s a video of Zac playing victim, speaking to police, saying that I staged this. For one, I don’t know how you can stage getting your ass beat on multiple occasions; you can’t. But this is what abusers do. They will make you seem like you’re the crazy one and that they’re the victim. It really makes me more upset that the cops are consoling him, telling him to breathe. Everything about this makes me uncomfortable.”
The Sun reported in late November that Stacy had hit Evans with pieces of mail while she held her baby prior to the alleged assault on November 13, adding, “That was one of at least two domestic disturbance calls that police responded to since August that appeared to show how Stacy’s aggression escalated towards his ex Kristin Evans, according to allegations in police reports exclusively obtained by The Sun.”
Evans filed a restraining order application against Stacy after a mid-August incident. She wrote, according to TMZ, “He physically assaulted me several times because he wanted the money back he gave me for our rent. … He punched my legs, slapped me, picked me up by my arms, and threw me into my window, which broke. I had glass in my feet that I removed myself.”
