<p>California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the Trump administration on Sunday and dared border czar Tom Homan to arrest him amid the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles County.</p>
<p>Trump drew the ire of California Democrats, such as Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, after he deployed the National Guard to shut down the riots that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/national-guard-rolls-into-los-angeles-after-days-of-anti-ice-riots">broke out</a> over the weekend. Homan then warned Newsom and Bass against impeding federal law enforcement officers and threatened them with arrest if they &#8220;cross[ed]&#8221; the line.&#8221; The California governor shot back, imploring the Trump administration to keep their &#8220;hands off these poor people&#8221; who are &#8220;just trying to live their lives.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me,” Newsom said of Homan in an interview with <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/californias-governor-unfazed-threats-arrest-trump-administratio-rcna211752">MSNBC</a>.</p>
<p>“The hell are they doing? These guys need to grow up,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;They need to stop, and we need to push back. And I’m sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go,” he added.</p>
<p>“But you know what? Let your hands off 4-year-old girls that are trying to get educated. Let your hands off these poor people. They’re just trying to live their lives, man,&#8221; Newsom <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/09/us-news/gov-newsom-adds-fuel-to-fire-dares-trumps-border-czar-tom-homan-to-arrest-him-amid-violent-anti-ice-riots/">added</a>. &#8220;Trying to live their lives, paying their taxes. Been here for 10 years. The fear, the horror.”</p>
<p>Over the weekend, federal immigration agents, along with state and local law enforcement officers, were attacked by rioters hurling rocks, concrete, and &#8220;commercial grade fireworks&#8221; — actions that LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said could have killed the police officers. At least one Customs and Border Protection agent was injured after rioters <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kill-ice-foreign-flags-and-fires-sweep-la-as-riots-erupt-against-immigration-enforcement?author=Tim+Pearce&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=11&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=%E2%80%98Kill+ICE%E2%80%99%3A+Foreign+Flags+And+Fires+Sweep+LA+As+Riots+Erupt+Against+Immigration+Enforcement">pelted</a> his vehicle with rocks. Many of the rioters waved foreign flags and burned self-driving robotaxis in the street.</p>
<p>Homan responded to Newsom on Monday morning, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/trump-border-czar-responds-newsoms-arrest-me-challenge-california-riots-over-ice-raids">telling</a> &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends&#8221; that &#8220;no one&#8217;s above the law,&#8221; but added that there was no discussion about arresting the governor.</p>
<p>&#8220;What we discussed was for those protesters that crossed the line … you can protest, you get your First Amendment rights, but when you cross that line, you put hands on an ICE officer or you destroy property or I&#8217;d say that you impede law enforcement, or you&#8217;re knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien, that&#8217;s a crime, and the Trump administration is not going to tolerate it,&#8221; Homan said.</p>
<p>&#8220;Then the reporter asked me, well, could Governor Newsom or Mayor Bass be arrested? I said, &#8216;Well no one&#8217;s above the law. If they cross the line and commit a crime, absolutely they can,&#8217; so there was no discussion about arresting Newsom,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Newsom <a href="https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/5339718-california-lawsuit-trump-national-guard/">said</a> that California would file a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Monday over the National Guard deployment to Los Angeles, arguing that Trump&#8217;s move is &#8220;unconstitutional.&#8221; Newsom stated that the Trump administration did not coordinate with his office on deploying 2,000 National Guard troops, despite Trump&#8217;s order claiming otherwise. Trump has not invoked the Insurrection Act of 1807, which allows the president to federalize the National Guard and deploy the U.S. military to quell domestic disorder or violence.</p>
<p>“We have no problem working collaboratively in a mutual aid system with local law enforcement. But there’s a protocol, there’s a process. He didn’t care about that. And the worst part, he completely lied,” Newsom added.</p>
<p>The Insurrection Act of 1807 was most recently <a href="https://apnews.com/article/insurrection-act-trump-troops-newsom-military-national-guard-a842f79e1c0e244039be274a6f266a7a">invoked</a> by President George H.W. Bush in 1992 to respond to the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles.</p>
<p>On Saturday, Newsom accused the Trump administration of deploying the National Guard because the White House wants &#8220;a spectacle.&#8221;</p>

<p>“Governor Gavin Newscum and ‘Mayor’ Bass should apologize to the people of Los Angeles for the absolutely horrible job that they have done, and this now includes the ongoing L.A. riots,” Trump wrote. “These are not protesters, they are troublemakers and insurrectionists. Remember, NO MASKS!”</p>
<p>The president then said he has ordered Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi &#8220;to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots.&#8221; Hegseth <a href="https://x.com/PeteHegseth/status/1931533276985823392?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1931533276985823392%7Ctwgr%5Ec83cf98631e82d2adb33d89ce4b46397eadf5190%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Fderanged-behavior-gavin-newsom-declares-war-on-pete-hegseth-gets-more-than-he-bargained-for">said</a> on Saturday that active duty Marines stand ready to be &#8220;mobilized&#8221; to L.A. &#8220;if violence continues,&#8221; a statement that Newsom called &#8220;deranged behavior.&#8221;</p>
