Adam Carolla’s “Truth Yeller” pairs the legendary comedian with other big-name performers to have long, intriguing conversations about basic concepts. In one of the latest installments, the “Man Show” alum sat down with A-lister Dennis Quaid to dish about his career, raising sons versus daughters, and most importantly, share some laughs.
The best thing about “Truth Yeller” is that nothing is off the table for their conversation. Quaid and Carolla settle in to talk about everything from playing sports as kids to Quaid’s newest movie about Ronald Reagan. And yes, they also touch on Quaid’s “fugitive” brother Randy Quaid who the actor says he “thinks is somewhere in Vermont.” The pair agree that Carolla will work on luring Randy out of his self-imposed seclusion.
The pair chat in front of a live audience, giving the whole setup an intimate feel.
During one segment, Quaid fishes conversation starters out of a large container and the duo riffs on whatever topic comes up. This is how Carolla seamlessly transitions from discussing hemorrhoids to talking about Neil Young and the Spotify debacle.
“Please posers, can we just take a d*** day off with all the people that have to virtue signal and pose all the time?” Carolla asks to loud applause.
“Neil Young turned into Neil Old real g**d*** fast,” Carolla continues, referencing how the musician threatened to pull his music from the platform following the Joe Rogan controversy. “Neil Young – your job is to fight the man. The man is Fauci, the man is the WHO, the man is Joe Biden, the man is Kamala Harris. That’s the man! Gavin Newsom is the man. All these people, they’re locking up everyone and ruining their lives.”
“Big pharma – that’s the man,” he says. “Not Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan is the opposite of ‘the man.’”
“It’s about free speech,” Quaid agrees.
“You’ve reimagined McCarthyism in 2022,” Carolla continues. “There’s only one remedy. There’s only one thing that’s effective with these people, which is you cannot apologize. That’s all they want.”
He went on, discussing his tactic for not getting canceled.
“Every time I get into trouble – and I get into trouble from time to time – and everyone says everything to me. They call me all the worst words. But they never ask me to apologize. And you wanna know why? Because I never apologize. And they leave you alone.”
Signing on for “Truth Yeller” was a big step for Carolla, who claims to be unable to be canceled because he just doesn’t care. That’s where the lack of apologies come in.
