The FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina has become the most expensive sporting event to attend in U.S. history, with average resale ticket prices soaring above $15,000 in the days leading up to kickoff.

The championship match, set for Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, has shattered previous resale records, with even the cheapest tickets costing more than $7,000.

TickPick, one of the more well-known secondary ticket marketplaces, posted to X Wednesday afternoon both their current get-in price as well as the average cost to attend the event, two eye-popping prices.

TickPick initially reported an average purchase price of $11,327, breaking the previous U.S. record. By Thursday, the marketplace showed average resale prices topping $15,000, showing how quickly demand continues to climb.

According to Forbes, the previous record belonged to Super Bowl LVIII, where the average resale ticket cost reached $9,411. Other recent Super Bowls and Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals rounded out the top five.

The cheapest ticket listed on TickPick on Thursday cost $7,917. Comparable seats were listed for $7,042 on SeatGeek and $7,963 on StubHub.

Luxury seating reached even higher prices. TickPick listed one ticket for more than $116,000, while SeatGeek had another priced above $112,000.
