Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has issued a statement regarding the rumors circulating online about his role in pressuring a woman to have an abortion.

It all started when Paige Jordae shared screenshots of an alleged text conversation between herself and the 22-year-old NBA player. After Jordae, who is a model and Instagram influencer, shared photos of a positive pregnancy test, Edwards appeared to reply, “Hell naw I can’t do this,” and “Get a abortion lol.”

Jordae responded saying she had previously had an abortion and didn’t want to have another.

“Honestly I had an abortion with my son around 2 years ago and I regret it everyday,” Jordae wrote in the text, per People.

Edwards wrote back, “Man you can’t force a kid in da world,” adding, “You don’t know what it’s [sic] is yet,” and “Yea but I don’t want a kid.”

The screenshots also allegedly show Edwards offering Jordae $100,000 to get the abortion. The pro basketball player also allegedly asked for video proof of her ingesting the abortion pills.

Jordae claimed she sent an AI-generated photo showing what their unborn child could look like, which Edwards replied to by asking again for the videos. The model also claimed that the Timberwolves player sent her $100,000 via a wire transfer after she confirmed she took the abortion pills.

The alleged text exchange went viral on social media. The controversy erupted after Edwards’ current girlfriend, Jeanine Robles, announced on Instagram last week that she is pregnant.

The backlash to the alleged text exchange was so extreme that Edwards, a rising star in the NBA, issued a statement about the situation on Monday.

“I made comments in the heat of a moment that are not me, and that are not aligned with what I believe and who I want to be as a man,” Edwards wrote in his statement, which was shared on X. “All women should be supported and empowered to make their own decisions about their bodies and what is best for them,” he continued.

The Timberwolves player said he would be “handling my personal matters privately” and “will not be commenting on them any further at this time.”
