WASHINGTON — The head of the Food and Drug Administration is facing heavy fire from the pro-life community amid reports that he slow-walked a review of abortion drugs promised by Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The backlash followed a Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-12-08/fda-slow-walking-a-long-awaited-abortion-pill-safety-study">report</a> on Monday stating that the FDA had delayed its review of the impacts of abortion drugs, specifically mifepristone — a review promised by both Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Commissioner Marty Makary. Two people familiar with the matter reportedly told Bloomberg that Makary requested that the review be put off until after the midterm elections.
HHS Press Secretary Emily Hilliard told The Daily Wire on Tuesday afternoon that the FDA’s comprehensive scientific reviews &#8220;take the time necessary to get the science right,&#8221; adding, &#8220;That is what Dr. Makary is ensuring as part of the Department&#8217;s commitment to gold-standard science and evidence-based reviews.&#8221;
HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon similarly rejected the idea that Makary was acting ideologically, telling Bloomberg the &#8220;assertions that the FDA is slow-walking this review for political purposes are baseless.&#8221;
The White House similarly backed Makary, telling The Daily Wire in a Tuesday afternoon statement that Makary is working hard to &#8220;ensure that Americans have the best possible, Gold Standard Science study of mifepristone.&#8221; A White House official also pushed back on the claim that the study is being &#8220;slow walked,&#8221; saying that comprehensive and exhaustive reviews take time.

&#8220;The White House maintains the utmost confidence in Commissioner Makary, whose leadership at the FDA has delivered and continues to deliver one landmark victory for the American people after another, from cracking down on artificial ingredients in our food supply to conducting the first safety review of baby formula in decades,&#8221; Deputy White House Press Secretary Kush Desai said. &#8220;Uninformed attacks against Commissioner Makary from individuals outside the Administration will not change these facts.”
But a number of high-profile pro-life leaders view the matter differently. They insist Kennedy and Makary promised a timely review of the abortion drugs, and, in their view, wasted time means more babies killed through abortion drugs, and more women harmed by their adverse effects.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, one of the top pro-life groups in the United States, came out swinging on Tuesday morning with a statement condemning Makary, saying he should be &#8220;fired immediately&#8221; and accusing him of &#8220;undermining&#8221; the Trump/Vance pro-life agenda.
&#8220;The FDA is doing nothing while every single day abortion drugs take the lives of children, put women and girls at serious risk, empower abusers and trample state pro-life laws,&#8221; said the organization&#8217;s president, Marjorie Dannenfelser. &#8220;The FDA needs a new commissioner who will immediately reinstate in-person dispensing as it existed under President Trump’s first term and immediately conduct a comprehensive study.&#8221;
&#8220;Commissioner Makary is severely undermining President Trump and Vice President Vance’s pro-life credentials and their position that states should have the right to enact and enforce pro-life protections,&#8221; she added. &#8220;Makary must go.”
Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, who has been particularly vocal throughout the second Trump administration about the need to examine abortion drugs, also slammed Makary on Tuesday, saying that the Bloomberg report suggests the FDA &#8220;lied&#8221; to him and other members of Congress.
&#8220;FDA needs to stop dithering &amp; reinstate the mifepristone safety guardrails,&#8221; Hawley said. &#8220;Nothing less is acceptable.&#8221;

A pro-life leader who has engaged in conversations with the White House on the topic shared with The Daily Wire that the Tuesday report shattered the confidence of pro-life organizations advocating for the review, confirming inklings of delays that they had already heard.
“I don’t think Senator Hawley is alone in his concerns,&#8221; the leader shared.
Lila Rose, a well-known pro-life activist who heads the pro-life organization Live Action, warned in a <a href="https://x.com/LilaGraceRose/status/1998429557909565477">post</a> on X: &#8220;If Dr Makary will not act as head of the FDA to protect children and mothers he should be fired. Under his watch abortion pills kill preborn children and endanger women and the study he promised is nowhere to be found. End mail order abortion. Ban the abortion pill now!&#8221;
SBA Pro-Life America cites peer-reviewed research that found three-quarters of emergency room visits within 30 days after a woman took abortion drugs were coded as severe or as critical. They also point to studies that found more than one in ten women experience at least one severe adverse event when taking the abortion drugs, and point out that complications can include hemorrhaging, infections, sepsis, and, in some cases, death.
The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/reverse-this-wrong-republicans-push-rfk-to-fix-bidens-abortion-drug-mistakes">reported</a> in late November that 175 Republican lawmakers called on HHS to take “immediate action” to reinstate safety requirements on abortion drugs, highlighting the growing body of evidence showing that the drugs are causing severe and underreported harm to women, asking RFK Jr. and Makary to “at a minimum, reinstate the in-person dispensing requirement for mifepristone.”
Until 2023, the FDA required abortion drugs to be administered to women under a doctor’s supervision. Under Joe Biden&#8217;s administration, that and other safety standards were removed, which the Biden White House justified by citing the coronavirus pandemic.
“The need for urgent investigation and review of this drug comes in the wake of the Biden-Harris administration’s egregious action to remove critical safeguards that once applied to abortion drugs, and the FDA’s approval of a new abortion drug generic in September 2025,” wrote the lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN).
“Under your leadership, HHS and FDA can reverse this wrong,” they conclude. “We urge you to immediately reinstate the REMS requiring in-person dispensing of mifepristone and to expedite the promised review by the FDA into the dangers of abortion drugs.”

WASHINGTON—Vice President JD Vance weighed in Monday on those who use &#8220;heartbreaking&#8221; stories of miscarriage to fear-monger women into supporting a pro-abortion agenda.
The vice president shared an <a href="https://x.com/JDVance/status/1998055054901743741">X thread</a> from a woman who revealed that she miscarried her baby while living in Texas, where pro-abortion activists have falsely argued that women will be jailed or prosecuted if they miscarry a baby due to the state&#8217;s pro-life laws.
&#8220;I live in Texas,&#8221; wrote the woman, who identified herself on X as &#8220;Sky.&#8221; &#8220;I&#8217;ve lost a child. The miscarriage lies they tell you are bull.&#8221;
She explained: &#8220;In February of 2023 I found out that my baby didn&#8217;t have a heartbeat. When my hysterical sobs subsided in the sonogram room, my OBGYN kindly (and with much grace) gave me my options: I could let nature take its course, I could jump-start the process with medication, or I could opt for a D&amp;C. At no point was I blamed or questioned. It wasn&#8217;t my fault.&#8221;
&#8220;I was a grieving mother&#8230; I am still a grieving mother&#8230; who lost her child,&#8221; Sky wrote. &#8220;The medical system and the people within it, did what they could for me throughout the entire process. My story is not an outlier. It&#8217;s the norm. We do not live in a dystopian novel. Shit happens. Awful shit happens. But don&#8217;t you DARE scare women who are out there just trying to build a family for your own political gain. Monsters. Every one of you who push this narrative that women will be imprisoned for a miscarriage.&#8221;
The vice president quoted the post, calling it a &#8220;very heartbreaking testimony.&#8221;
&#8220;Losing a baby is terrible and heartbreaking, especially for the mom, and we shouldn&#8217;t use political lies to capitalize on that,&#8221; the vice president wrote.
Vance&#8217;s attention to the issue is notable, particularly given how politically problematic abortion has become for Republicans. Trump, who helmed the most pro-life administration in United States history and continues to support the pro-life cause, notably does not currently discuss abortion except to note that Democrats support a radical abortion vision that allows for abortions until birth.
Particularly during the 2024 election, as Democrats sought to portray Vance and President Donald Trump as extremists on abortion. Abortion advocates hyped the notion that pro-life laws endangered women. One of these heavily promoted false notions suggested that women who miscarried their babies would be targeted by local officials, akin to something out of a dystopian novel such as &#8220;The Handmaid&#8217;s Tale.&#8221;
As the 2024 election came to a head, multiple outlets published viral stories seeking to suggest that a Trump presidency would imperil women.
One such story was that of Amari Marsh, a then-22-year-old woman who gave birth to a living baby girl on March 1, 2023, according to police reports obtained by The Daily Wire. Marsh&#8217;s story, <a href="https://kffhealthnews.org/news/article/pregnancy-loss-criminalization-homicide-south-carolina-college-student/">written by KFF Health News and republished on CNN</a>, was complicated, upsetting, and missing details. What was apparent, however, was the narrative that KFF&#8217;s story pushed: that an innocent woman faced jail time for a miscarriage. 
According to the police reports obtained by The Daily Wire, police said that Marsh told them she gave birth to her baby in the toilet after visiting Planned Parenthood to obtain abortion drugs. Though officers repeatedly tried to get her to remove the baby from the toilet while speaking to her on the phone, she did not. When the officers arrived on the scene, they found Marsh&#8217;s baby still alive, but covered in toilet paper, lying in the toilet water. The officers &#8220;began life saving measures&#8221; while transporting the baby to RMC (Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties), where the baby was ultimately pronounced dead.
An arrest warrant obtained by The Daily Wire, dated May 2, 2023, states that Marsh waited 10 minutes to call 911 after her baby was born alive (Marsh alleged to KFF that she was freaking out and said, &#8220;I couldn’t even keep myself together&#8221;). It also states that she would not remove her baby from the toilet even when officers told her to.
&#8220;She refused to remove the baby from the water in the toilet at the urging of the dispatcher, which was ultimately a proximate cause of her daughter&#8217;s death,&#8221; the arrest warrant states. &#8220;The cause of death was ruled respiratory complications due to prematurity due to preterm premature rupture of membranes with chorioamnionitis due to maternal chlamydia infection. These are treatable diagnoses in a NICU.&#8221; 
She was charged with murder/homicide by child abuse. A South Carolina grand jury<a href="https://www.pregnancyjusticeus.org/press/south-carolina-pregnancy-criminalization-case-dropped-in-a-victory-for-maternal-health/"> declined in August</a> to indict her.

In the incident report, dated March 1, 2023, Marsh allegedly told officers that she knew she was pregnant in November 2022, made an appointment with Planned Parenthood two months later, intending to &#8220;take the Plan-C pill, which would possibly cause an abortion to occur.&#8221; She also said she &#8220;was supposed to have a follow-up appointment to make sure the pill worked but never went back.&#8221; 
In October 2024, she would <a href="https://www.wistv.com/2024/10/30/orangeburg-county-woman-speaks-out-after-charge-over-2023-miscarriage-dropped/">claim</a> that she didn&#8217;t even know she was pregnant at the time of her baby&#8217;s birth. 
But she told police in March that on February 28, 2023, she began experiencing abdominal pain and went to the hospital, where she was told &#8220;she was pregnant and a heartbeat was located.&#8221; Marsh told officers that &#8220;the energy in the room was off&#8221; and she felt uncomfortable, so she went home, where she gave birth to her baby in the toilet. She told officers that she did not take her child out of the toilet because &#8220;she did not know what to do.&#8221;
KFF&#8217;s story paints a different picture. It refers to the baby only as a &#8220;pregnancy loss,&#8221; never mentions that the baby was likely around 20 weeks old, and suggests that Marsh&#8217;s case raises &#8220;questions about the state of reproductive rights in this country, disparities in health care, and pregnancy criminalization, especially for Black women like Marsh,&#8221; specifically noting that Marsh&#8217;s case &#8220;highlights what’s at stake in November.&#8221; 
The story also says that Marsh denied to KFF that she went to Planned Parenthood or took abortion drugs (though the police report says she told them she went to Planned Parenthood in January 2023). KFF also argues that the police report &#8220;doesn’t specify whether she took — or even obtained — the drug,&#8221; and the publication does not mention Marsh&#8217;s assertion to police that &#8220;she was supposed to have a follow-up appointment to make sure the pill worked but never went back.&#8221; 
The publication did not respond to requests for comment.

A leftist federal judge appointed by former President Barack Obama issued an order on Tuesday blocking the Trump administration from cutting funding going toward organizations like Planned Parenthood that end the lives of unborn children. 
U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26327752-talwanipppi120225/">ruled</a> that the Department of Health and Human Services cannot cut off Medicaid funding going toward Planned Parenthood. Talwani sided with California and other Democrat-led states that sued to keep Medicaid funding flowing to Planned Parenthood affiliates.
Talwani wrote that HHS failed “to provide clear notice as required by the Spending Clause of the United States Constitution” to the Democrat-led states. Medicaid funding for abortion-promoting entities was cut off for one year by a provision of the GOP-backed “Big, Beautiful Bill.” 
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit previously overturned another <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26089904-ppfavkennedyca1091125/">decision</a> from Talwani that sided with Planned Parenthood in a suit over the provision. 
Talwani’s decision was met with criticism from pro-life advocates. 
“The Democrats and their radical activist judges are desperately seeking to thwart the will of the people and bail out the Big Abortion industry, led by Planned Parenthood. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act is federal law passed by Congress and signed by the president,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser.
“This fight is not over. The pro-life movement will work tirelessly to ensure the Democrats do not prevail and taxpayers are never forced to pay a dime to prop up Big Abortion businesses,” Dannenfelser added. 
Talwani has a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-who-prevented-trumps-deportation-of-500k-migrants-volunteered-for-obama-elizabeth-warren">history of leftist activism</a> and has volunteered for and donated to prominent Democrat politicians, including Obama and Senator Elizabeth Warren.

The federal judge <a href="https://www.fec.gov/data/receipts/individual-contributions/?contributor_name=Indira+Talwani">donated</a> a total of $1,725 to Democrat politicians and the Democratic Party, including $1,000 to former Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), $350 to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and $100 to Obama. Talwani also gave another $275 to the Democratic National Committee.
Talwani explained on her Senate questionnaire that she also volunteered to knock on doors for Obama in 2008 and volunteered to canvass on behalf of Elizabeth Warren in 2012. 
She has sided against the Trump administration in other rulings, including decisions to revoke Temporary Protected Status for half a million migrants, and a 2019 ruling said Immigration and Customs Enforcement was allowed to arrest illegal aliens on courthouse grounds in the state of Massachusetts.

A coalition of pro-life crisis pregnancy centers won a big victory on Monday against New York Attorney General Letitia James over her targeting of organizations that promote a protocol that can help a mother save her child if she regrets taking an abortion pill.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit <a href="https://adflegal.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/nifla-v-james-2025-12-01-appellate-opinion.pdf">affirmed</a> that the coalition has a First Amendment right to speak about the abortion pill reversal protocol, a process that is meant for women who want to counter the effects of taking an abortion-inducing drug. In 2024, James <a href="https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2024/attorney-general-james-sues-anti-abortion-group-and-11-new-york-crisis-pregnancy">sued</a> 11 faith-based pregnancy centers for their promotion of the protocol, claiming they were spreading false and misleading information.
“Many women regret their abortions, and some change their minds after taking the first abortion drug and want to try to save their unborn babies’ lives. They should be allowed to hear about this option and make that choice,” said Caroline Lindsay, a lawyer for Alliance Defending Freedom who represented the coalition in court.
The protocol is a method <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/abortion-pill-reversal-a-record-of-safety-and-efficacy/">backed</a> by a coalition of pro-life organizations and involves a woman taking a prescribed dose of bioidentical progesterone to potentially reverse the effects of Mifepristone and save an unborn child if she changes her mind at the last minute about going through with the abortion.
The coalition was composed of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates, Gianna’s House, and Options Care Center. While James did not sue them over the abortion pill reversal protocol, they argued in court that her actions could infringe on their free speech rights. A district court agreed, granting the coalition an injunction against James. The appeals court on Monday upheld that decision.

“The district court correctly determined that the speech at issue is noncommercial because, based on the uncontroverted evidence in the current record, the speech is religiously and morally motivated, the [National Institute of Family and Life Advocates] plaintiﬀs receive no remuneration or other financial benefit for engaging in it, and, as the NIFLA plaintiﬀs do not provide [Abortion Pill Reversal] themselves, the speech serves only to provide the public with information about [Abortion Pill Reversal] and access to third-party providers that can oﬀer [Abortion Pill Reversal],” the judges wrote.
In May 2024, James <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-crisis-pregnancy-centers-pick-up-legal-victory-against-letitia-james">announced</a> a suit against Heartbeat International and 11 pregnancy center organizations for promoting the abortion pill reversal protocol. James claimed that the organization was “spreading dangerous misinformation by advertising &#8216;abortion reversals&#8217; without any medical and scientific proof.”
Heartbeat International says that the lives of over 7,000 babies have been saved through the abortion pill reversal protocol. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on whether a Christian pregnancy center can challenge New Jersey over a wide-ranging subpoena it issued related to the protocol.

Supreme Court justices ranging from conservative Clarence Thomas to liberal Elena Kagan pressed the state of New Jersey on Tuesday about its expansive investigation targeting a Christian pro-life crisis pregnancy center. 
The justices heard arguments about whether a Christian pregnancy center can challenge a wide-ranging subpoena from the New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin that demanded donor information. The case hinges on whether the subpoena had the impact of chilling supporters of  First Choice Women’s Resource Centers and is entitled to relief in federal court. 
During oral arguments on Tuesday, many of the justices appeared skeptical of the arguments made by Sundeep Iyer, a lawyer for the state of New Jersey. 
In one exchange, Justice Thomas pushed Iyer on why the subpoena was issued to First Choice. 
“Did you have complaints that formed the basis of your concern about the fundraising activities here?” Thomas asked.
Iyer responded by saying that they had complaints about crisis pregnancy centers in general, but not specifically First Choice. Thomas then suggested that New Jersey had “no factual basis” for believing that the pregnancy center was deceiving donors and that the subpoena was a “burdensome way to find out whether someone has a confusing website.”

Another key question in the case is whether the subpoena could be considered “chilling” because it had not yet been approved by a court. Justice Kagan, one of the court’s liberals, pushed Iyer on that question. 
“I think here, too, you would make the same argument is that an ordinary person, one of the funders for this organization or for any similar organization, presented with this subpoena, and then told, ‘But don&#8217;t worry, it has to be stamped by a court is not going to take that as very reassuring,’” Kagan said. “Why isn’t that right?”
Other justices, including Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, and John Roberts, were also critical of New Jersey’s interpretation of the subpoena it had issued. 
First Choice has centers in five of New Jersey’s largest cities, including New Brunswick, Newark, Morristown, Montclair, and Jersey City. “This court has long safeguarded the right of association by protecting the membership and donor list of nonprofit organizations like First Choice,” said Alliance Defending Freedom lawyer Erin Hawley. “Yet the attorney general of New Jersey issued a sweeping subpoena, commanding on pain of contempt that First Choice produce donor names, addresses, and phone numbers, so his office could contact and question them. That violates the right of association.”
Platkin first subpoenaed First Choice in November 2023, asking for ten years of documents related to its promotion of the abortion pill reversal, information they provided to clients and donors, personnel records, and copies of every advertisement the centers had run.

Pregnancy centers across the country helped a record number of women in 2024 with millions of dollars’ worth of medical and support services as pro-lifers grapple with challenges from aggressive Democratic officials, according to a new report. 
The <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/A-Legacy-of-Life-Love-2025-Rising-to-the-Occasion-with-Unwavering-Care.pdf">report found</a> that 3,799,816 men and women were served across 2,775 pregnancy resource centers in 2024. Services provided by the pregnancy centers were estimated to be valued at around $452,475,801. At the same time, an estimated 12,330 unborn babies were being aborted per month through pills sent by “shield laws” enacted in blue states to protect left-wing activists. 
“As the landscape of abortion in America following the Dobbs decision has rapidly changed, pregnancy centers continue to offer steadfast, professional care to women and families,” said Charlotte Lozier Institute executive director Karen Czarnecki.​ “It’s imperative that pregnancy centers continue to increase the availability of services—walking alongside women, men and families to provide love, education and support so they can courageously choose life.”
The report was compiled by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, Care Net, Heartbeat International, National Institute of Family and Life Advocates, and Option Ultrasound Program by Focus on the Family. 
It found that the pregnancy resource centers served over a million new clients in 2024 and provided over $116 million in material support, a 48% increase from 2022. Material support includes providing families with items such as diapers, baby wipes, car seats, strollers, clothing, cribs, and other essentials. 
Eight out of ten pregnancy centers provide free or low-cost medical services, and over 10,000 medical professionals work at the facilities, according to the report.

Around one-quarter of the clinics provided abortion pill reversal services. The service “provides a chance to rescue the pregnancy soon after the ingestion of the first abortion drug through the administration of the hormone progesterone,” according to the report. As of June 2025, over 7,000 babies had been saved thanks to the abortion pill reversal, according to statistics included in the report. 
At the same time, pro-lifers are dealing with a surge in mail-order abortions as activists and abortionists ship pills into states where medication abortions are illegal. States like New York have passed shield laws to protect abortionists from being punished if they ship abortion pills into states like Texas or Tennessee. Pro-life lawmakers and activists have struggled to contain the spread of these pills and have urged the Trump administration to take action to crack down on FDA regulations that allow for abortion pills to be sent through the mail.
Pregnancy resource centers that have promoted the abortion reversal pill protocol have found themselves under scrutiny from Democratic officials in blue states like New York, New Jersey, California, and Illinois. 
The Supreme Court is set to hear a case on Wednesday on whether a Christian pregnancy resource center in New Jersey can challenge an expansive subpoena from New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin requesting documentation on the center’s donor base.
New York Attorney General Letitia James <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-attorney-general-hit-with-another-lawsuit-over-her-targeting-of-pro-life-groups">sued</a> 11 pregnancy resource centers and the group Heartbeat International for their support of the abortion pill reversal protocol. In California, pregnancy centers were <a href="https://www.thomasmoresociety.org/news/court-compels-acog-to-turn-over-documents-and-communications-in-ag-bontas-lawsuit-to-silence-pro-life-pregnancy-centers">also sued</a> for their promotion of the abortion pill reversal.
Other Democrat lawmakers have opposed pregnancy centers because they don&#8217;t encourage or promote abortion. In 2022, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-senator-happy-about-getting-google-to-suppress-crisis-pregnancy-centers">called</a> for pregnancy centers to be shuttered entirely. &#8220;Shut them down all around the country,” Warren said.
Included in the report were testimonials from women who were assisted by pregnancy resource centers. One of the stories included was that of Aagust, a Florida woman who found out she was pregnant in nursing school and took an abortion pill. After regretting the decision, she was able to get in contact with the Mosaic Sexual Health Clinic, a pregnancy resource center, that helped her save her baby. She ended up delivering the baby and naming him Carter Jay.
&#8220;He is the smartest, most active little boy ever and I love him so much,&#8221; she said. &#8220;God used Mosaic to save my baby and I am forever grateful.&#8221;

The New Jersey attorney general’s battle against a Christian pregnancy resource center will take center stage at the Supreme Court next week as Democrat officials ramp up the lawfare against pro-life organizations. 
On December 2, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments about whether First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, a Christian pregnancy center, can fight back in federal court against New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin’s attempt to gain access to its donor lists and promotion of the abortion pill reversal. Platkin issued a wide-ranging subpoena targeting the crisis pregnancy center as part of an investigation into whether they had lied about their services. 
“If our attorney general can bully us, it can happen in other states that promote abortion. It&#8217;s our hope that our efforts will result in protection for pregnancy centers across the nation. There is such a great need in New Jersey for women to consider all of their pregnancy options and not think that abortion is their only option,” Aimee Huber, the executive director of First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, said in a press call. 
First Choice has centers in five of New Jersey’s largest cities, including New Brunswick, Newark, Morristown, Montclair, and Jersey City. Services include free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and options counseling. They also offer a parenting program that provides essential needs such as baby clothes and diapers. Since 1985, they have aided over 36,000 women. 
Represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom, First Choice sued Platkin after he subpoenaed them in November 2023 for ten years of documents related to its promotion of the abortion pill reversal, information they provided to clients and donors, personnel records, and copies of every advertisement the centers had run. 
“There were no allegations of wrongdoing,” Huber said. “It was simply a fishing expedition. Receiving the subpoena was completely overwhelming. We are a small nonprofit, and the idea of compiling so much information was completely daunting.”
In June 2025, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case after First Choice’s lawsuit hit snags at the federal district court and appeals court levels. The official question granted by the court is as follows: “Whether a federal suit challenging a subpoena issued by a state attorney general is justiciable if a state court has not yet issued an order directing the recipient to comply with the subpoena.”
Responding to the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the case, Platkin said that the subpoena he issued was lawful and accused First Choice of hiding information about its operations. 
“First Choice—a crisis pregnancy center operating in New Jersey—has for years refused to answer questions about their operations in New Jersey and the potential misrepresentations they have been making, including about reproductive healthcare,” Platkin said. “I remain committed to enforcing our fraud laws without fear or favor against anyone who would harm or violate the rights of our residents, no matter how powerful the entity on the other side.”

Alliance Defending Freedom lawyer Lincoln Wilson said that the central question before the high court was whether First Choice had the right to challenge Platkin’s subpoena in federal court. 
Fundamentally, though, Wilson said the case was about First Choice’s associational rights. 
“Any organization, right or left, no matter which side of the aisle you&#8217;re on, there needs to be the ability to keep this information confidential,” he said. “And if the government can just go ahead on a pretextual theory and demand that you turn over the names of your donors, then everyone in this country is less free.”
The Trump administration is backing First Choice with the Justice Department filing an <a href="https://www.justice.gov/crt/media/1412671/dl?inline">amicus brief</a> arguing that First Choice should be allowed to pursue its federal lawsuit. 
“A party has standing to challenge a subpoena, and such a challenge is ripe, if the party faces a credible threat that the government will bring proceedings to enforce the subpoena. Because petitioner satisfies that test, this suit is justiciable,” the Justice Department wrote.  
Pregnancy centers across the country that support vulnerable women in blue states like California, New York, and Illinois have all faced legal challenges for promoting the abortion pill reversal protocol. 
The protocol is a method <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/abortion-pill-reversal-a-record-of-safety-and-efficacy/">backed</a> by pro-life organizations where a woman can take a prescribed dose of bioidentical progesterone to potentially reverse the effects of Mifepristone and save an unborn child if she changes her mind at the last minute about going through with the abortion.
New Jersey has enshrined abortion into the state’s constitution and has no pro-life protections in place. Huber said that the expansive abortion laws created an environment where anyone offering an alternative would be targeted. 
“Our state has done everything they could to make New Jersey a sanctuary state for abortion,” she said. “Since pregnancy centers like ours do not perform or refer for abortion, we are targets for a government that disagrees with our views.”

Scotland is facing backlash as the country could potentially adopt the most extreme abortion laws in the European Union.
Scotland is currently regulated by the 1967 Abortion Act, which allows abortions up to 24 weeks of gestation if two doctors agree that the criteria are met. This is notably higher than in many other European countries, where the limit is usually 12 weeks. 
But now, thanks to a <a href="https://www.gov.scot/publications/review-abortion-law-scotland-expert-group-report/pages/2/">review</a> of abortion law commissioned by the Scottish Government, those restrictions could be abolished entirely, with women able to access abortion up to birth for “social reasons” including for reasons of sex selection, such as aborting a daughter if the mother wanted a son instead.
The Abortion Law Expert Group said the current requirements demanding approval from two doctors are “anachronistic, paternalistic and failed to reflect best modern practice.” A new proposal would require approval from two “healthcare professionals,” which would broaden the scope to include nurses, midwives, and other roles in the medical field issuing those approvals.
The topic of sex selection abortions was mentioned in the recommendations, <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/18/scotland-abortion-plan-dystopian-nightmare/">per</a> The Telegraph.
“[The review group] believed that any prohibition would be unworkable in practice,” Anna Glasier, the chair of The Abortion Law Expert Group, said, “&#8230;requiring either intrusive and inappropriate questioning of all women regarding their motivation for seeking abortion, or racial profiling and additional questioning of a smaller proportion of women from ethnic communities where sex-selective abortion is believed to be practiced.”

No decision has been made on the recommendations, but Jenni Minto, Scotland’s Minister for Women’s Health, said the government will “take time to carefully consider all the findings.”
There has been backlash against the extreme proposal. Telegraph columnist Celia Walden called it a “dystopian nightmare,” <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/18/scotland-abortion-plan-dystopian-nightmare/">writing</a>, “the idea of engineering your children like you’re picking toppings on a pizza makes me queasy.”
Director of advocacy and policy for the Christian group Care for Scotland, Caroline Ansell, said, “If enacted, we believe they would have heartbreaking consequences for women and babies, including exposing more women to the dangers and harms of late-term abortions.”
Several pro-life groups have <a href="https://thecatholicherald.com/article/scottish-government-misreads-public-opinion-on-sex-selective-abortion">pointed out</a> that this proposed change does not reflect public opinion, which has become increasingly opposed to abortion. 
A recent Ipsos <a href="https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/data-dive-how-women-and-men-feel-about-abortion-issues">poll</a> across 29 countries found that a higher percentage of Millennial and Gen Z women were opposed to keeping abortion legal in all cases compared to Baby Boomers, who were the biggest supporters of abortion of the demographics surveyed.

Aftyn Behn, the Democratic nominee running in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District special election, repeatedly said in recent years she would be willing to get arrested for abortion advocacy.
Behn, a state representative, is seeking to replace Rep. Mark Green, who resigned from office earlier this year, and is running against Republican Matt Van Epps, who’s been endorsed by President Donald Trump.
“What is the positive if there is a silver lining? What this does not mean for Tennessee is that groups on the ground will continue to provide training in terms of self-managed abortions, and so, instead of going to a doctor because we won’t have any doctors that provide abortions, how do you do it at home?” she said in a May 2022 conversation with the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/H5j_O0_se94">Tennessee Holler</a>.
“We’ll continue to figure out how to get abortion pills to people. So the organizing does not stop just because Roe is overturned,” Behn continued.
In August 2022, Tennessee made most abortions illegal unless there is a “medical emergency.” Behn was part of a lawsuit against the state’s 2024 law signed by Republican Gov. Bill Lee that “creates the criminal offense of abortion trafficking of a minor; provides for a civil action against a person committing the offense of abortion trafficking of a minor if certain conditions are met.”
The Democrat told the <a href="https://www.nashvillescene.com/news/pithinthewind/abortion-trafficking-bill-passes-senate/article_cff4da46-f787-11ee-b19b-97f895921043.html">Nashville Scene</a> in April 2024 that she would be open to getting arrested for violating the law.
“I think most importantly, we’ll see the increased criminalization of people seeking abortions and those assisting them. So I anticipate lots of bail funds for women seeking abortions, getting caught getting abortions, women like myself that plan to travel with women getting arrested. And we’ll also see increased surveillance, policing, and fear. So we are really living in a dystopian reality, I tell you ladies and gents. It’s not great,” the Democrat said earlier in the conversation.

As for the 2024 law regarding abortions for minors outside of Tennessee without parental consent, <a href="https://www.axios.com/local/nashville/2025/07/21/judge-blocks-tennessee-abortion-trafficking-law">Axios</a> reported that a federal judge prevented some aspects of the law from going into effect following the Behn-backed lawsuit, over the “recruitment” element of the law due to free speech concerns, but kept other noteworthy parts of the legislation.
Tennessee Advocates for Planned Parenthood is backing Behn in the special election, saying in a recent <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DRSND-IjOiA/">Instagram post</a> that she &#8220;is a champion of reproductive rights with a proven track record of voting for and sponsoring legislation that would protect access to sexual and reproductive health care, and preserve our rights to our own bodies.&#8221;
Sixty percent of the district in which Behn is running voted for Trump, and nearly 60% voted for Green in 2024.
Still, Democrats are eager to see it as a pick-up opportunity following off-year election victories in Virginia, New Jersey, and Georgia earlier this month, with the House Majority PAC pouring $1 million into advertisements for the race, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/11/21/house-democratic-super-pac-drops-1-million-on-tennessee-special-election-00664768">Politico</a> reported. <a href="https://www.cookpolitical.com/analysis/house/tennessee-house/2026-tennessee-house-analysis-music-city-mayhem">Cook Political Report</a> ranks the race as “Likely Republican.”
The Daily Wire reached out to the Behn campaign for comment. The Democrat is already under fire for remarks she made in a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/music-city-fumble-dem-candidate-said-she-hates-city-she-wants-to-represent-in-congress">2020 clip</a>.
“I hate the city, I hate the bachelorettes, I hate the pedal taverns, I hate country music, I hate all of the things that make Nashville apparently an ‘it’ city to the rest of the country. But I hate it,” she said at the time.
Behn said in a post after the clip went viral that, “NO, I DO NOT HATE THE CITY I REPRESENT.”
“The national GOP’s new attack? That ‘I hate Nashville.’ I’ve cried in the Country Music Hall of Fame no less than 10 times. They’re panicking because we’re close to winning. Eyes on the prize, y’all. Let’s go,” she continued.
In addition, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/dem-house-hopeful-exposed-far-left-activist-pushing-abolish-police-weeks-before-special-election">Fox News</a> reported on old remarks from Behn criticizing law enforcement.
Election Day is December 2.

Organization founder Amelia Bonow published the book “Abortion Is Everything” after years of promising it was forthcoming. She shared photos and excerpts on the group’s official social media page, describing it as a “very special book.”
“This beautiful hardcover book was created to talk with kids about abortion,” the post says. “Abortion Is Everything speaks directly to five to eight-year-olds about what abortion is, how it might feel, and why people have abortions.”

In 2018, she appeared in a video for the “Kids Meet” series online and used anti-science and pro-abortion talking points while discussing her own abortion with the young boys and girls, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-feminist-promotes-brags-about-abortion-amanda-prestigiacomo">reported</a>.
She said abortion was “all part of God’s plan” and agreed when one of the participants suggested that an unborn “fetus” is “not really a human being yet.”
“I kind of like to compare it to a sea cucumber. It’s not thinking; it’s just living. It’s like, your arm is not capable of complex thought. Neither is a baby inside your womb,” one boy said as Bonow enthusiastically agreed with that idea.
Bonow also said “pro-life” is “propaganda.”
“I don’t call them pro-life; I call [them] anti-choice, because who would disagree with that statement? Being pro-life? … To me, the phrase ‘pro-life’ is propaganda, because often the people that say that don’t want to take care of people who have babies that they can’t afford and then are totally poor. … They want to deprive people [of] access to healthcare,” she told the teens. “You guys aren’t pro-life. I’m pro-life,” she insisted.

WASHINGTON—Republicans are calling on the Department of Health and Human Services to take &#8220;immediate action&#8221; to reinstate safety requirements on abortion drugs, highlighting a growing body of evidence showing that the drugs are causing severe and underreported harm to women.
In a letter first obtained by The Daily Wire, New Jersey Rep. Christopher Smith and Tennessee Rep. Diana Harshbarger call on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary to &#8220;at a minimum, reinstate the in-person dispensing requirement for mifepristone.&#8221; Until 2023, the FDA required abortion drugs to be administered to women under a doctor&#8217;s supervision.
&#8220;The need for urgent investigation and review of this drug comes in the wake of the Biden-Harris administration’s egregious action to remove critical safeguards that once applied to abortion drugs, and the FDA’s approval of a new abortion drug generic in September 2025,&#8221; write the 175 lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN).
&#8220;Under your leadership, HHS and FDA can reverse this wrong,&#8221; they conclude. &#8220;We urge you to immediately reinstate the REMS requiring in-person dispensing of mifepristone and to expedite the promised review by the FDA into the dangers of abortion drugs.&#8221;
The move is significant since President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration green-lit the removal of safety standards on the drugs during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing women to easily obtain the drugs at home. Pro-life advocates have long argued that women are being put in danger simply from taking the abortion drugs, but they are even more anxious about women taking the drugs on their own.
New studies are showing that complications are &#8220;astonishingly higher than what is reported on the drug’s label,&#8221; the lawmakers say: &#8220;Even the current Obama FDA-approved label for mifepristone — which the data show understates the dangers to women — says that roughly 1 in 25 women who use mifepristone as directed will end up in the emergency room.&#8221;
“We join House and Senate Republicans in calling on the FDA to – at a minimum – immediately end Joe Biden’s legacy of mail-order abortion and restore the in-person doctor requirement that existed during President Trump’s first administration,&#8221; said SBA Pro-Life America&#8217;s head, Marjorie Dannenfelser. &#8220;<a href="https://sbaprolife.org/newsroom/press-releases/breaking-7-in-10-voters-want-to-roll-back-biden-covid-abortion-drug-policy-reinstate-in-person-doctor-visits">Seven in 10</a> voters agree. We are deeply grateful to Reps. Meanwhile, abortion proponents and legacy media insist the drugs are safer than Tylenol. President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration has weighed the issue carefully, cognizant of how electorally delicate abortion is. And in early October, the FDA approved a new abortion pill, shocking the president&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-lifers-demand-answers-from-trump-admin-after-shocking-abortion-pill-approval">pro-life supporters.</a>
At the time, Kennedy put out a statement clarifying that he understood that the Biden administration had removed mifepristone&#8217;s safety standards &#8220;without studying the safety risks.&#8221;
&#8220;We are filling that gap,&#8221; he promised, sharing that he and Makary wrote to state attorneys general and promised to &#8220;review all the evidence — including real-world outcomes — on the safety of this drug.&#8221;

&#8220;Recent studies already point to serious risks when mifepristone is used without proper medical oversight,&#8221; he said, and he clarified of the new abortion pill that that the FDA just approved: &#8220;[The FDA] only approved a second generic mifepristone tablet because federal law requires approval when an application proves the generic is identical to the brand-name drug.&#8221;
In their appeal, the Republican lawmakers express gratitude to Kennedy and Makary for serving the most pro-life president in American history, saying that Trump has &#8220;done more to advance a culture of life and the protection of women and children from the violence of abortion than any president before him.&#8221; But they also cite polling from McLaughlin and Associates that found that 7 in 10 voters agree that it &#8220;makes sense&#8221; to bring the former FDA safety standards back, arguing that &#8220;clear majorities of Americans recognize the extreme overreach of the previous administration’s actions.&#8221;
The lawmakers also dive into how the abortion drugs affect mothers, citing an Ethics and Public Policy Center study showing the adverse events from mifepristone are about 22 times more frequent than the FDA recognizes. That study found that almost 11% of women experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or other life-threatening events after aborting their unborn baby with mifepristone.
&#8220;While we have long known that mifepristone causes the death by starvation of children alive in the womb — it is baby poison — we now know with greater certitude that their mothers are also being seriously harmed. Despite the mainstream media and the Biden-Harris administration perpetuating the lie that these drugs are &#8216;safer than taking a Tylenol,&#8217; science and women’s lived experiences clearly say otherwise.&#8221;
And while the Biden administration claimed that the removal of safety standards was in response to the COVID pandemic, to help women receive &#8220;medically necessary&#8221; care, the lawmakers argue that the former administration was really just using COVID as a &#8220;smokescreen&#8221; to &#8220;accomplish its radical abortion agenda, which even now wreaks havoc across the nation.&#8221;
&#8220;Even the current Obama FDA-approved label for mifepristone — which the data show understates the dangers to women — says that roughly 1 in 25 women who use mifepristone as directed will end up in the emergency room,&#8221; they write.
They also say that the Biden FDA ignored warning signs from the studies on which it had already relied, including data showing that 3% of the women who took the drugs need to be hospitalized, &#8220;a 330% increase over the rate on the approved drug label,&#8221; data showing that 6% of participants had unplanned visits to emergency rooms, surgery was required to complete the abortions for 4.1% of the women, and, in the telemedicine group, 5.8% of women had emergency room visits.
&#8220;Beyond the studies, women tell us how they have suffered harm from mifepristone, and stories of coercion and abuse involving abortion drugs now run rampant,&#8221; they continue. &#8220;Real women like Rosalie Markezich — who is just one example of many — felt coerced by her boyfriend to take abortion drugs that he ordered from an out-of-state prescriber in her name and had delivered to her home through the U.S. Postal Service.&#8221;
&#8220;Rosalie did not want to have an abortion, but Biden’s egregious weakening of mifepristone’s safety standards let her boyfriend obtain abortion drugs and force her to take them,&#8221; they argue. &#8220;The dangerous Biden mail-order scheme was designed to give abortion activists license to mail drugs everywhere, even into states like Markezich’s home state of Louisiana that have pro-life protections for pregnant mothers and their unborn babies.&#8221;
&#8220;Today, abortion drugs account for nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the United States; there are over six hundred thousand abortions committed using these drugs each year,&#8221; the lawmakers write. &#8220;The Biden FDA’s reckless, no-contact, mail-order abortion scheme is to blame. Abortion providers are reaping increased profits, while women and their unborn children suffer irreparable harm.&#8221;

‘Reverse This Wrong’: Republicans Push RFK To Fix Biden’s Abortion Drug Mistakes

A conservative group announced Wednesday that it plans to spend tens of millions of dollars to help maintain pro-life majorities in Congress.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and its partner political action committee, Women Speak Out, will spend $80 million to fund canvassing, digital advertising, voter contact mail, and early voting campaigns in key Senate and House races across the country. The group said it hopes to make at least 4.5 million visits across the country with a focus on battleground races in Iowa, Georgia, Michigan, and North Carolina. 
“Republicans simply cannot win without their pro-life base, especially in midterm elections when overall turnout drops. Pro-life voters are the heart and soul of the Republican Party,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of SBA Pro-Life America. “Our mission is to fire up pro-life Americans who do not consistently vote in midterms and convince persuadable voters to reject the Democrats’ extreme all-trimester abortion agenda.”
Pro-life voters were a significant part of the coalition that helped President Donald Trump win his surprising victory in 2016 after he promised to appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade. 
During the 2024 presidential election, SBA Pro-Life America said it contacted 10 million voters across eight battleground states. 
Sen. Tim Sheehy, a Republican who defeated incumbent Democrat Jon Tester in Montana last year, praised SBA&#8217;s efforts to support his campaign.
“SBA was there from the beginning,” he said. “They knocked over 100,000 doors in our state with 600,000 voters. That’s a massive amount. And the most important thing they did was shatter the narrative that we were somehow radicals because we wanted to protect the lives of unborn children.”
As a result of the election victories in 2024, Republicans in Congress were able to defund Planned Parenthood for a year in Trump’s signature “Big, Beautiful Bill.”
In recent years, Democrats have also campaigned heavily on abortion. Before the 2022 midterm elections, many Democratic candidates focused their messaging on the overturning of Roe. Former Vice President Kamala Harris embraced the same strategy during her presidential run last year and urged the Senate to overturn the filibuster to pass laws codifying a nationwide right to abortion.
